ETBA Trials & Badai Angin Academy Offer!
Written In First Person As Indra Vartak

After the PB-Viska/Air Kalactin livery reveal event, it was time to leave for Filindostan for the ETBA Trials. I decided to go as this was a chance to experience different tracks around the world. If I showed some potential, I could be invited to the Badai Angin Driver's Academy. Who would wanna miss out on that? I wouldn't.

I and Mr Chauhan arrived there at night and went to the Jakulta International Raceway the next day. This event was no joke, with twenty-four drivers looking to get inside the driver's academy! The team principal Manolo Ricafort greeted us and gave us an introduction. He talked to us about the chassis, the engine and the tyres we would use today.

We then got in our vehicles and checked it out. We then were underway with the morning session.

Morning Session 1 - Practice
Things were okay on this technical track. I ended up getting the eighth fastest lap out of the twenty-four drivers participating today. My fastest lap was 1:26.750, just 151 milliseconds behind the guy who made the fastest lap today, Joy Wingelaar. I honestly felt I did quite well, better than my expectations. Though, Mr Chauhan said, "Don't settle yet, keep pushing. We need to show PB-Viska how capable you are even though they know that already." He was right, I had to keep my focus or the next session would be worse. The next session would be with the aggressive track and I have done quite well recently on aggressive tracks, so I better use this to my advantage.

Morning Session 2 - Practice
I had the fifth-fastest lap, 1:03.208, this time just 17 milliseconds behind the top guy, Edward Rousseau this time. I kept up my good performances on aggressive tracks. We have a lot of aggressive tracks this season. Hopefully, we could get a few points in those races. Well, now on to the time attack.

Afternoon Session - Time Attack
I studied this track pretty well before coming here. I knew what I could do to decrease the amount of time I take on each corner. The hours I spent studying the track was worth it as I came third and my fastest lap was 1:47:386, literally just two milliseconds behind the leader, Batu Tüvshinbayar. I was getting closer and closer to first place and was fairly consistent too. This helped me gain some confidence and feel much more prepared for the first official pre-season test.

Afternoon Session - Race
What a thrilling race that was with me coming second behind Anneliese Devereux. I didn't expect that, all I know is that I was focused and my quick brain also helped a lot here. Yeah, you rich elites back in Pratapgadh probably wouldn't believe us villagers have a brain! Funny how they said I would end up working in a cheap garage like my father. Ok, let's not get too emotional. I have nothing to say here really, but Mr Chauhan did. "There you go!" said Mr Chauhan, "You kept pushing yourself and that brought you some results. Well, let's head back to the hotel and take some rest. We need to leave for Twicetargia tomorrow." He pats me in the back and we head back to the parking lot. This is exactly what I needed, cause my memories were catching up to me.

Wait for a second, I got it! An offer to be in the Badai Angin Drivers Academy!

Indra Vartak Accepts The Offer For A Spot In The Badai Angin Drivers Academy

First Pre-season Test!
Written In First Person As Indra Vartak

Here we are in Raichovskiy, Twicetargia. All teams were looking forward to testing their tracks while we drivers were looking to get comfortable with cars. These pre-season tests are quite useful as we get some more warm-up and also test out the car to make sure everything was fine. Both me and Haukanna were ready and head to our vehicles after having a discussion with Aldauren.

Haukanna and I didn't really get to talk to each other much as we were busy with our hectic schedules. Hopefully, we get to know each other more later on as knowing about your teammate is quite important. Knowing each other's strengths would help us a lot on the track. We got in our cars and were off for our pre-season test.

Haukanna and I knew what we wanted to achieve from this first session. We wanted to familiarise ourselves with the track and looked to get as many laps as possible, so we could get some data back for analysis. After a few laps, Haukanna got her signal and she came back to the pit lane. I too was out after a few more laps. I ended up on the top of the table, my fastest lap being 00:01:55.073. The first test session went quite well, much better than what I expected

Test Session 2
Things were looking great until Haukanna had some issue with her gearbox and she had to return to the pit lane. The PB-Viska mechanics had to deal with the issue inside the garage. Shame, both of us were looking to get as much time on the track as possible. Luckily, my car had no issues. It was actually quite good, the handling and speed were perfect. I made sure I could get as many laps in as possible to get some data back. With Haukanna out, I had to work extra hard today. I ended up tenth out of sixteen drivers who were looking to get in shape for the first race of the season. My fastest lap was 1:56.556, about a minute and 483 milliseconds slower compared to my fastest lap in the first test session.

It was alright though, we achieved our goal. We got the data we needed to make changes to our cars. After going back to the hotel with Mr Chauhan, I quickly called my family back home. My dad picked up the phone,
"कसा आहेस बेटा? आपण बर्‍याच दिवसांपासून आमच्याशी बोललो नाही." - Vishnu Vartak ("How are you, son? You haven't talked to us for a long time.")

"मला माफ करा बाबा, मी व्यस्त असतांना व्यस्त वेळापत्रक होते. मला जाणून घ्यायचे होते की तुम्ही लोक डायरेशिया येथे माझ्याबरोबर राहायला येऊ शकता का. मला तुझी आणि आईची खूप आठवण येते." - Indra Vartak ("I am sorry dad, I was busy because of the hectic schedule. I wanted to know if you guys can come to Diarcesia to be with me. I miss you and mom too much.")

"क्षमस्व, हे शक्य नाही. आमचे आर्थिक प्रश्न तुम्हाला माहिती आहेत. मी काम सोडू शकत नाही." ("Sorry, that's not possible. You know our financial issues. I can't leave work.")

I didn't want to hear that, but it was true. There was no way dad would leave work just to see me race. He had people to feed, "मला माहीत आहे पण...." - Indra Vartak ("I know but...")

I was tearing up as I didn't want to be alone, I wished my family see me drive like they wanted to many years ago. However,
"तथापि, आपली बहीण आपल्याबरोबर असू शकते." - Indra Vartak ("Your sister can be with you, though.")

"काय? होय, तिने येण्याचा निर्णय घेतल्यास मला ते आवडेल!" - Indra Vartak ("What? Yes, I would love it if she decides to come!")

Looks like I won't be alone after all.

((Before you read the post I’d like to say that I am half-black and quarter-Asian so I have the N-word and the C-word pass))
The first meeting of the corporate branch of the Lakan Society of Eugenics, which was about to begin, promised to be extremely active, useful and productive. Still - such a motley audience, it seemed, could not be found anywhere else - there were also quite decent-looking white gentlemen, which you can expect in such communities - respectable businessmen, engineers and doctors, several scientists of different ages, yet some things were way out of the ordinary- for the first the meeting of the society somehow managed to "leak" in several Asians and, which looked even somewhat absurd, to a black man, who, having busily settled down, answered the questions of those who were not offended, but simply did not understand what a “negro” was doing in such a society. In the country house of a local hospital psychologist, who was the organizer of the department and volunteered to hold the first meeting at his place, with every couple of minutes, new visitors arrived. Those who had already arrived talked with interest, periodically "nibbling" the treats prepared in advance by the owner of the house - he was convinced that food consumption stimulates the brain in a person. The guests, amazed into small groups, each talked on his own topic. Adeline also did not stand aside, having entered into a lively dialogue with several gentlemen on the topic of who exactly should be sterilized.
Shaking an elegant glass with a soft drink in his hands - the sheriff was among the guests and no one wanted to break Prohibition - surgeon Frederick Stellhammen stated his position in a calm and measured tone:
- And yet I will allow myself to disagree with you, miss. Although it is possible that some mental illnesses and physical abnormalities are not inherited, it is still too early to judge this. After all, we are not yet that far advanced in the study of the inheritance of certain features of the development of the human body.
“With all due respect to your medical experience, Herr Stellhammen, you are still making a minor mistake. Thanks to the research of numerous eugenic societies, we can now say for sure that, say, hydrocephalus is an error of ontogenesis and is not inherited.
- However, will hydrocephalus be capable of normal social interaction? Will they be ... Social?
- Yes, you're right, they won't. But this is not a reason for making life even more difficult for these poor fellows. After all, they didn't choose to be born that way. This is a cross, thrown on them by God and should we make this cross even harder, given that the threat to society from hydrocephalus is minimal?
- Excuse me - even though I am an agnostic, but is it sterilization ... - the surgeon did not have time to finish, a rather loud bell rang and the owner of the house called everyone to order - he was going to start a welcome speech.
"Ladies and Gentlemen! I am pleased to announce our first meeting open! First of all, today we will deal with organizational issues. As you all probably know, the Lakan Eugenics Society has been active in our state for quite some time. Nevertheless, for one reason or another, until recently, we could not proceed to active action. But now, after the landmark decision of the Supreme Court for our country "Mac v. Bell", which opened hands for AOE, we can finally move from words to deeds! So, I propose to first solve the problem of who we will be accepted into our society. You see ... hmm ... we have a very ... diverse audience here. Although, perhaps this is to some extent my fault, it is quite ... how should I put it ... unexpectedly to see here ... you, mister ...? - he asked inquiringly to the black guy, who answered with an offended and offended look.
“Sir, it seems you are not accustomed to seeing members of my race in such dignified societies. Nevertheless, I am ready to assure you that I am more than worthy to be here. I have been awarded a number of state awards, have a positive recommendation from the police,-hell, I even work there,- and am an exemplary family man and a father of two children. Yes, perhaps my brethren are a few ... unworthy of this. But do I answer for... '' he did not have time to finish, for he was interrupted by a shout from the other end of the room.
- We have already heard such stories about blacks who are better than whites! You stole the medal, you bring up children for the sake of benefits, and your recommendation is positive simply because you did not fall for anything! That's all! All of you are colored, and blacks and yellows and locals! But nothing, the White Man will teach you a lesson! ”A man of average height in a white suit and with an elegant cane shouted, actively gesticulating.
- Mr. Anderson, please, control yourself. - the psychologist tried to call to order, but it was too late - the spark had already begun to flare up into a fire.
The first to respond to the insults were the Asians - two people, either Japanese or Chinese, who worked at the bank.
- Mister, keep yourself together! We are worthy Americans who love our country and work hard for its good. You are a real traitor to America! Tell me, you are not by chance ...
- Yes, I am from the Ku Klux Klan. You are not servants of America, the contemptible servants of the Jewish bankers, that's who you are!
- To order, please! Mr. Anderson, respect your interlocutors!
- Yes, you roll, devils from the city to hell! You arrange your damn processions here, burn crosses, frighten the people! Well, nothing, your days are numbered! ”The grocer, famous for his fighting disposition, was shaking his fist with his fist.
- Be silent, you Jewish pig! I bet on my hat that you even go to synagogue! Damn it, you're not even a real man!
“Is this a challenge ?!” Aggressively, the grocer got up from his chair and rolled his fists into fists, ambiguously placing his hand on the chair. A fiery flame lit up in his eyes, and his muscles tensed in preparation for a fight. For about a minute, in the uncomfortable silence, he and the clanman stared into each other's eyes, waiting for the opponent's actions.
Fortunately, the psychologist's efforts for a peaceful settlement, the problems sprouted - threats to call the police helped to drive both violent visitors out into the street, where a patrol car was just passing - and therefore there was no fight, no one wanted to spend the night at the police station. Having shaken themselves off, and having discussed the thundering circus for a couple of minutes, the Society, as a result of a more civilized conversation, decided that they would still accept representatives of racial minorities, albeit after providing unshakable proof of social fidelity. After that, the meeting began to discuss a much less important question: alcoholism - is it hereditary?

P.S. Adeline is now an official racer competing for UAC. I probably should’ve stated that earlier...

“Wha... What do you mean I haven’t yet been accepted as an official driver? Do you realise that you could’ve wasted hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of taxpayer’s money? I will immediately report your behavior. You are a terrible agent.”

OOC: Well, I suppose this can tell how my country treats the other races. Races in biological terms, that is. Also it is stated that anything related to racing can be posted, and during the later posts you’ll see some racial tension between the members of the team. Such a post was needed to make the roots of this conflict (idk how you write it in English).

Hey everyone. This is me wearing my mod hat. Cross-posting my comment from the Moderation thread that was created about this post.

This is troubling. There's no such thing as a 'pass' to use racial epithets, especially on a forum where posters are anonymous. This is an unofficial warning: This kind of thing is inappropriate.

Okay.

A few things to sort out here.

Firstly, thank you to Audio for your ruling on the report.
Secondly, Sierra Grand and Laka, please – as per the OP of the thread – take OOC discussion elsewhere, and don't clog the RP thread up with one-line OOCs.
Thirdly, and most importantly, the meat of the issue.

Laka, it would be most recommendable for you to leave this particular angle out of future RPs. I say this on a number of grounds:
(1) You may well find that people are uncomfortable with it and therefore unwilling to sign with your team.
(2) You don't know the host's stance on such issues, and if the host is comfortable with it.
(3) As moderator intervention has already been requested, it is probably a topic best avoided going forward.

If you're happy to agree to that, then this RP aside, I'm happy to let things slide.
If you feel like this is something you wish to continue exploring, please let me know and I will arrange for a replacement team; you may do so with a driver and his backstory instead of an entire team which has to include other users.
Слава Україні!

Raichovsky Circuit
Pre-season Test

Artur Iljakov and Aldauren walked down the paddock ahead of the session's start and shared their thoughts about the PF-1 cars that were primed for track time. Aldauren nodded in understanding.

"Less than a year ago, I wouldn't have known some would see a potential in me to manage a team. Getting my feet wet in WGP2, I already see it's a wholly different ballpark. I'm grateful for you and your people's wits and dedication. I've followed Viska's previous seasons for a while," Aldauren told Artur.

It was not easy to get a team together. The logistics are insane, and for a fledgling outfit who desires to stand out, PB-Viska has to get creative in how they wage their campaign.

Later, in the garage

"Just a few minutes from me before we go off to business?" Aldauren gathered everyone. "Good news for you, Laura and Indra: you're about to officially start your first WGP2 event. Make the most out of it. Now, everyone... in Diarcesia, we live by two words: archa and telus. I'll not give a linguistics class, but these words together mean that we finish what we started. I truly believe that we have the best of two worlds here: a young and eager organization that was able to overcome obstacles in WGP3 and make waves there, and a proven one in Viska that is highly experienced and knowledgeable. So, I ask you to take a moment to absorb what it means to be a part of WGP2. For that, I encourage you with a word Artur taught me: täitä. Fight!"

PB-Viska experienced a duality of results in the first session. The first thing they learned was that mating their gearbox with the Skychief engine was more complicated than they thought. Precious lap time was lost and Laura had to bring back her #37 car to make heads or tails on what was preventing her to shift to higher gear to attain full speed. On the other hand, the reports from Creusa Nárë, the female high elf engineer assigned to Indra Vartak are more encouraging. His car's gearbox fortunately held on and with an all-out setup, managed a very respectable pace (or a glory run, if one is less inclined to interpret it charitably).

"Box now, Indra, that is a very good pace. We have to conserve the gearbox while Laura's issue is being investigated," Creusa said over the radio. Indra returned a few minutes after Laura did.

Test Session Two

"Our quick fix did not really work, Aldauren," Chief Engineer Louis Meissner told him. "We need a deeper dive to truly solve this. From the looks of it, it's all electrical."

"N’chow*," Aldauren muttered in Dunmeris. "Our correlations with our simulations are looking good, but we still need more data. We should keep reminding Indra to maintain a more conservative pace and try to make as many laps as possible."

"Agreed," Louis affirmed.

Aldauren went to find Laura and try to reassure her while's she's waiting for the session to end.

1 day into the season and I'm already down to fart jokes

Postby Schutzenphalia and West Ruhntuhnkuhnland » Wed Mar 24, 2021 7:19 pm

“I win! I came first! I’m so fast!”

“You know Lukas, that’s not always a good thing,” sighed Lukas’s girlfriend, Bianka Stricker, as he rolled off her. The 20 year old nursing student pulled the covers up over herself as Lukas slid from the bed and headed for the bathroom to wash his face.

This was the last night they’d be spending together before he went out to Filindostan for the second pre-season test. Not that he’d been particularly great company. During dinner he had his nose in a book of technical specs: since trying out the ‘V6’ in official conditions for the first time, he’d talked of little else. He’d even brought a caving headlight to the cinema with them and continued scribbling notes while she tried to enjoy the film playing above them. In fact, he was now taking suspiciously long in the bathroom…

Bianka crawled to the edge of the bed and peered around the corner. There, through the half-open bathroom door, she could see him sitting on the edge of the bathtub, the book in his lap, pen tucked behind his ear as he performed some mental calculation on his fingers. She gave a loud peremptory snort but he was too deep in his ‘Lukas-zone’ to take any notice. She climbed back into her nest of pillows and flipped on the remote. The television blared to life.

“…recording strong times in both sessions in the event in Twistytigers. I’m joined by Madleen Henze. Madleen, will Lukas and Team NN take a lot of pride from this?”

It was Jessika Jünkindietrünk, with a fairly unflattering photo of Lukas superimposed in the background.

“Not really Jessika. Truthfully these practice sessions are more about getting to grips with the car and engine. Some teams won’t be trying for pace at all. The times are not relevant at this stage to – well, much of anything. In Team NN’s case, they will want to study the results of the aerodynamic paint they had applied so they can learn more about the strengths and weaknesses of the chassis design and tweak it.”

“So we can’t quite proclaim a Schutzenphalian champion, then?”

“No, not quite. We can say Lukas looked pretty comfortable out there, he seemed to have a lot of dialogue with the team between the two practice tests. He’s known to be a very calculating driver and I’m sure he had plenty to report from his first drive in the car.”

“Will we know more after FilmIdon’tunderstand?”

“Perhaps a little, the Yogyakulta is a very different course to the Raichovsky, which was fairly undemanding. But it’s still
very early days in the season. I’d expect to see Lukas, who’s naturally a fairly conservative driver, pushing things a little harder in Filindostan, to really test the limits of the car in these conditions. I definitely don’t think he’ll care if he finishes first or last in practice so long as he’s getting used to his drive, though.”

Jessika and Madleen prattled on a little more, but it was nothing Bianka hadn’t heard a thousand times already over the last few days. That part about pushing things harder had her worried, though. Lukas was so – well, boring – sometimes that she almost forgot what a dangerous job he had, what risks he took. That journalist talked about him testing the car as though one possible result of that test wasn’t televised immolation. Bianka shivered. She just wanted to hold Lukas and tell him to be safe –

From the toilet came the sounds of him farting, loudly.

– but maybe she’d give it a minute.

A large man with an incredible moustache emerged from the plane that had just touched down in Filindostan. Behind him, carrying three bags (from all three of which emanated the noise of clanking glass) and wielding an umbrella, came Sid. A gaggle of reporters swarmed towards them. Wielding his umbrella-point with the skill of an Olympic fencer, Sid kept them at bay, but they shouted their questions all the same.

Major Zoomtwat, what was your first test in the UrGa car like?

“Bloody good little car, that. Turns out the reds can make a nice little motor when they’re not too busy rousing the working classes and all that nonsense, wot wot.”

And what did you make of the Preston V6?

“Rather nifty bit of gear, wouldn’t you say, old bean?”

Sid did not say, but aimed a jab towards a paper whose facial hair suggested he worked for newspaper of unsuitable standing.

“Yes, rather. Still learning the ropes, wot wot. Lots of buttons and contraptions, and the helmet was a little tight around the whiskers.”

Are you looking to set a competitive time here in Filindostan, or is the priority on testing out the engine at this stage?

“Rather takes the fun out of it, I think, to be gawking at the old pocket-watch the whole time, doesn’t it?” Harry attempted to gesture by reaching into his waistcoat for said fob, but was alarmed to discover it had turned into a smartphone as a result of travelling through the portal to the present day. Black plastic wotsit. Apple on it, with what looked like a worm bite taken out of it. Confounded thing.

“Erm, yes. Harrumph harrumph. Going to whack a little more of that paint on, I shouldn’t think, lovely stuff, though it was a devil of a badger to get out of the old togs, wasn’t it, old bean?”

Sid smiled thinly. While ‘Harry the Red’ had been regaling Londontown with fantastical tales of his drive (that it was a pre-season practice test was a detail left out of his rich telling, although he made up for it by introducing many additional details Sid did not, strictly, remember happening) since the event in Twicetagria, Sid had mainly been on laundry duty, washing the aerodynamic paint from assorted clothes that Harry had managed to get it smeared on.

What’s your relationship like with the team’s other driver?

“Hmm, yes.” Harry twiddled his moustache. A factory worker. Good grief. “Interesting chap. Tons of experience. Hope to learn a lot from him.”

Sid sensed Harry had used up his year’s supply of politeness in those two lines, so he chivvied a corridor through the hacks and hurried his master on to where the car would be waiting for them.

TMW Headquarters, Litzengau, Teusland - 3 Days Prior to Testing

“I believe that covers everything, Jorn, was there anything else to bring up?”

“I’m not sure… oh, right. Joy was wondering if her father could attend the testing session. I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t say yes, I think it would be good for her to have that support there. Our garage is 99% Teus, so having that source of comfort would be good for her I think.”

Heinrich Herschinger spoke up. “Don’t tell me we have another fucking Gotthard Junker.”

“No, God no,” said Team Principal Jorn Feister. “Everything I’ve heard of Petrus Wingelaar is of a supportive dad who just wants to be there for his daughter. I can assure you that he’s not going to have a burner twii.tur account live twiiting from the garage.”

“I can’t believe you let him back into the paddock after that,” said Herschinger.

Magnus Schonau joined the conversation again. “Is our dear friend Gotthard going to testing this week?”

“I don’t think so, but you never know when he’ll show up,” replied Jorn Feistel.

Schonau answered back. “This might be the one time you’d want him there. Maybe he could learn something from Petrus Wingelaar.”

Flashback - Pomen Karting Centre, 2023

“Here’s young Heinz-Otto Junker around the corner, he’s been doing an excellent job all race… oh no! It’s a spin! He’s into the wall, and his day is over. A poor mistake by Junker in a race he looked dominant in.”

12 year old Heinz-Otto Junker slumped back to the garage, where a few of the guys in the garage gave him a pat on the back. It was little consolation, however. The Formula TMW race that day would end up being won by Thomas Meier, his rival for the championship - and for the eyes of the talent scouts in the stands. His spin on this day hadn’t done much to attract those eyes.

But none of that was really on his mind. It was the man who he hadn’t seen yet - his father. Normally, Gotthard was waiting in the garage after the race. Not this time, however. Heinz wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or not - when he had a bad race, Gotthard was never in a good mood.

Heinz hung around the garage for a bit, watching the team members work and helping them pack up. After another few minutes had passed, and still no sign of his father, he went up to one of the engineers.

“Have you seen my dad?”

“He left the garage a while ago, haven’t seen him since.”

Heinz waited and waited while the team continued to take everything down, and he continued to help. There were a few awkward glances shared with engineers, wondering just where his father had gone. Soon enough, most of the team were getting ready to leave the track. It was 2 and a half hours back to Stelburg from Pomen - surely his dad had not left him there? Finally, one of the engineers spoke up and offered Heinz a ride back to Stelburg. They walked out to the parking lot, when Heinz saw it - parked in the very back, not a car near it, his father’s old Fissler, a gift given to him when he reached 100 Grands Prix with the team. The engineer gave him a quiet pat on the shoulder - it was little confidence for Heinz. He knew what would come next.

He slunk over to the car, seeing his father staring straight ahead, eating a Marziger sausage. Next to it was a soda can, branded with a ‘Kaiser Franz’ logo, Teusland’s most popular fast food. The smiling mascot, wearing an 1800s straight moustache and sporting an old Teus Empire military helmet, seemed to be mocking Heinz. There was only one drink, and only one sausage.

Heinz was expecting yelling, but there was none of that. Just silence. Silence for 2 hours as the car crawled up the highway back north to Stelburg. Finally, as Gotthard turned the car onto the street in suburban Stelburg where the Junker family lived, the silence was broken.

“What are you going to tell your mother,” asked Gotthard sharply.

“I crashed, and I lost.”

“Just another race, then, eh?” The harsh tone made his father’s feelings clear.

Back home, Heinz climbed up the stairs, crawled into bed, and tried to forget this day. The silence was definitely, definitely, worse than the yelling.

Present Day - Raichovsky Circuit, Testing Morning Session

The TMW engineers were all quite amused with themselves seeing Petrus Wingelaar overjoyed with his daughter’s performance in the morning session.

For a culture that was very much based around ‘keep your head down, don’t make too much noise, keep to yourself,’ it was certainly… abnormal. But with the antics they had seen from other fathers in the past, and the present, it was a welcome change. Joy had done excellent, too, as had Heinz, which made for a great mood in the garage.

Jorn Feistel walked over to Heinz-Otto Junker, now, who was chatting with a few of the engineers. He was still trying to get used to the changes to the rear end, and was discussing possible adjustments.

“Heinz, we’d like you to run a Quali sim before the end of the session, if that’s alright. We’ve mostly been focused on getting some laps down and a feel for the car, but I’m sure you’d love to go for a glory run.”

“You bet I would,” said Heinz, almost leaping for his helmet and heading over to the car.

The outlap was normal - it was a more technical track, but Heinz had a particularly affinity towards the fast sector 3, especially the final few turns before the main straight. It was here that you picked up speed to start the lap, and Heinz felt he was quick as he crossed the line to start his first timed lap.

He found sector 1 a bit tricky, but no real issues - the rear end was feeling much more comfortable for him now, after a few slight adjustments. He was feeling good into sector 2, and Sector 3 was fun to drive, so when he crossed the line, Oliver Werich’s voice in his ear was like music: “Great drive Heinz, fourth fastest mate.” By the time he made it back around to the pits, the morning session had finished and the team was getting things ready for the lunch break.

Heinz started to head back to his room, as engineers gave him a few pats on the back, a fair amount of ‘Good lap mate’ coming from the team. The most surprising one, however, came from the one man in the garage he hadn’t met before today:

“Hey, Heinz, great lap!” It was Petrus Wingelaar.

Heinz simply stared back for a second, a bit taken aback. Those were words he didn’t quite expect to hear from someone not wearing a black-and-gold uniform in the garage. Then, he just smiled back.

“Thanks! It’s good to have you here. Joy’s doing great too, you must be very proud.”

Over the lunch hour, Heinz worked hard to prepare for the next session. After a quick bite, he finally got a glance at his phone - a few texts from friends, a ‘good-luck’ from his mom. And silence from Gotthard Junker.

Raichovskiy Circuit
Raichovskiy, Twicetagria
WGP2 Test Session at Twicetagria

The ETBA driver trials has been completed mere days until the first test session in Twicetagria, as a result, the team had only one car confirmed to attend the test, which is driven by Rod Gozum who is in his second season in the second tier series of the road to WGPC. His first season went relatively well, beating his fellow driver academy racer Barnabas Mate by a single point. The second seat was initially offered to Batu Tuvshinbayar, but as of the now, he has not responded with the offer. He was not the only driver to be offered the seat, but in case he declined the offer, there would still be time to offer this to another driver who performed well in the tests, that being Ethanian driver Edward Rousseau and Licentian driver Joy Wingelaar, both of which are Esportivan drivers and could jell very well to the team based in Filindostan.

Wingelaar, along with the two, Indra Vartak, and Luc Deschamps, were offered an opportunity to be part of the drivers academy as well, which will be their possible ticket to a seat in the Badai Angin WGPC team, one which left by Mattijanan driver Alex Dimitrianov, who helped the constructor retain third in the constructors' standings by winning his home race in Mattijana. Manolo Ricafort received the first response from the offers, and it was Wingelaar declining an opportunity to be part of it as she decided to join TMW for this season. Manolo didn't mind this as he knew there would be conflict of interest between TMW and Badai Angin should the Licentian accepted the offer despite TMW not in the WGPC the past season.

The two-day test concluded with no other replies aside from Deschamps accepting a spot in the driver academy. Two days later when the team planned to go back home for the second test, they received a reply from the TJUN-ian declining both offers and accepting an offer from Nykipiflugpuun Noortekoondis (NN). It seemed to be a hammer blow to Manolo first as he thought that this is a random privateer team that Batu would regret signing for, but when he researched deeper, he saw that the team is linked to Tropicorp Racing Aelund's Edvin Pekkanen, which meant that signing for NN would be similar to ETBA where it could be a launchpad to a TRAE seat next season, and with at least one driver retiring from that team, he thought the situation is similar to Badai Angin.

With no time to spare before the second test, they offered the second seat to either Rousseau or Deschamps, and the former sent his confirmation to drive for the team in time for the test sessions at home. Manolo though has decided to offer other teams a spot for the Sommnet de Lespoir driver as part of responsibilities for having him in the drivers' academy. He received a similar communication from Pekkanen regarding the Vilita and Turori drivers, Jama'obo Pegasii and Skiia Vialiv, however as they already got Rousseau, they cannot accommodate the offer.

Meanwhile, in the cockpit of the FH1 chassis, Rod was on a relaxed mood during his radio check with his engineer. He was relieved during the offseason when he learned that his girlfriend, Hana Bhe, is being retained as driver of the Badai Angin Tim's NSSCRA operation. This development eased pressure from him potentially comforting his lover should she be axed from the team. "Radio check, okay."

He was not in a competitive mood in the tests at Raichovskiy, even though this was the first time he was running the track and the only experience he has in this is an on-site track inspection. "When will we see the full livery of the car?" He asked his engineer as he was signalled to come out of the pits and do some installation laps. "Manolo is tight-lipped on that one, maybe in the second test they will reveal the livery." The car was on a test livery for the first test event, as the car was enveloped in its entirety with the blue-violet paint that resembles the background of sponsor Telebuenas MotoMo'To!, while a small sticker for the Badai Angin was seen in the rear end of the engine cover.

The end of the sessions showed him being 13th and 8th of 16 drivers, but they are not really putting competitive laps. "We will see once the first round happens. Which teams will be good and which teams will flounder" Manolo discussed with Rod in a post-session debrief.

WGP2 Test Session at Filindostan

Filindo fans would be disappointed by the news that the Yogyakulta International Circuit did not make the cut in the official races of the WGP2 this season, and even a non-championship race. As a result of being assigned a pre-season test, fans are not allowed into the track, and as such, there is less fanfare in the event. This did not stop ETBA from launching their FH1 challenger at the outskirts of their pit garage:

Manolo was with Jose Manuel Varadi in the launch, with drivers Rod Gozum and Edward Rousseau accompanying them. Luc Deschamps was also in attendance with Badai Angin gear as he prepares for anyone who will offer the young driver a seat and to be quickly ready for the session in case WGPO allows him to do so. With this, Manolo asked Rousseau if he has any personal sponsor which he wants to be in the car, and if he will accept the offer for the Driver Academy.

With the launch, the team is ready and geared up for the upcoming season to bring it on to the other teams.

Test Session 1: Journal Excerpts

Postby Chromatika » Wed Mar 24, 2021 10:43 pm

Excerpts from Notes in Anola Melani's Diary

1. Ted Pressley is My Teammate.

Hailing from Tumbra of Esportiva, I met my teammate, Ted Pressley. He's also an engineer at heart, soft spoken, and shy, which meant that we could just coexist in peace. I'm sure we'll get to know each other better - we kind of have to with this season being so long - but it's a good start and a potentially good fit, I think. Much better than getting a really loud person that's in my face, like Meggie Johnson from back in school. Why am I thinking about that jerk again? Ugh. Anyway, it's interesting to be racing with another driver from another country for a team located elsewhere.

2. Racing is Fun.

I mean, that was always true, but racing for the WGP2 is something else. Even in just tests, I've been having so much fun regardless of result. The rev of the engine around me, all the personalities out there, it's just been great. I finished seventh in the first test and thirteenth in the second, but this is just to get used to the feeling of what it's like to be in these vehicles, so I'm not too worried about results. Still, I hope to get better as I get more time on the track.

3. I Miss Home.

This is really the first time that I've been away from my family and home for this long, and it's eating at me. I'm not one to make friends easily, so I have caught myself starting to feel alone. I am calling my family almost every week to stay in touch, but it's not the same, and I'm not in Chromatika anymore. I am reminding myself that this is all for my career, my family, and my country, which helps, but I can tell that this is going to make me grow up pretty quickly. About time, Dad would say. Well, I have no choice now. It's sink or swim time, and I plan on swimming.

Post 6 – Back to Basics

"Welcome back, Adriana. We are glad that you are with us again."

There was an air of familiarity as soon as she stepped into their office. Dressed in her usual outfit - white shirt, grey accents, black pants, there is the familiarity as she took in the surroundings - dark red furniture, purple accents, some orange bits here and there, and the occasional office plant. Adriana has sent her email in advance to them, confirming that she will once again be driving for them. She brought a physical copy of her CV but she knew that since they were giving her the offer, that might perhaps not be needed.

"Thank you for the wonderful opportunity once again!" she squealed a little and smiled, breaking her formal tone a bit while still maintaining the professionalism aura, "I know there are a lot of other potential and better drivers out there but I just want to thank you all again for giving me the chance. I would say it won't be as bad as WGPC 18, but hey, I'll try my best nonetheless."

She signed the contract. On a dotted line. And here. And there. And there again. Then come the very first trial run. Raichovsky Circuit. A bit of a technical track demanding Adriana's utmost performance. 8th on the 1st session, 7th on the 2nd session. If there is one thing that Adriana is very sure of, is that she is extremely consistent. She might not possibly win or get the best of results, but if she can keep her consistency for this season, she can at least best some of the talents out there.

And this time, she also made sure to communicate to the best of her ability to the team. "Haha, I mean, you definitely can but hey, in NSSCRA, anything goes! Often times we just swore to no eternity," Gwen told her back when she finished her WGPC 18 business and went to a NSSCRA race. Here though, she wasn't intent on swearing or berating her team, even if the rule is going to allow it. "Thanks, guys! That was fantastic, thanks for all the callouts and help!" she said out to her team, smiles and happiness all around.

Though, part of her feels that this is not going to be easy. After all, there seems to be so many other big wig teams and big wig names missing from the first session. The most competitive and the most intense are yet to come. She went back to her lounge, resting it up, charging, washing herself of some dirt here and there, and eventually settled down on her bed, booting up a simulation in her mind. She ran through 1000 more laps of the same course that she ran today, annotating and making notes faster than the best human secretary a trillionaire can buy.

"This just might be the start of something beautiful," she thought to herself, flipping through the local channels. There was the recent fiasco regarding another team and the particularly outrageous stance on a certain thing, but that was something that Adriana and the Valentians would not rather think about. For Adriana, she is on a mission to make a name out of herself and to prove that Valentians are not just constrained to NSSCRA and can do as well in the world of Formula Racing.

After the race simulations were done as a separate task, keeping the TV on as background noise, she took out her laptop, retrieved her assets given by Fireline, and started conceptualising on how her car could look like for the entire season. "White and clean, purple and elegant!" she thought to herself.

Corrupt Dictatorship

Postby Kyoki Chudoku » Thu Mar 25, 2021 4:12 am

Working with VSK was much different to anything Rikikida had ever experienced in her life.

It wasn’t as disciplined as her time in the Kyoki Chudoku no Kugun, where every pilot stood in absolute unison. They’d had their moments of slack, sure- every battalion did- but when it came to military preparations and drills and even actual combat, they had remained resolute in absolute commitment to the cause. She had served in Chuo District after all- where she was born, where she had lived for the better part of her life until the Nightmare came crashing down. The Supreme Overlady of All Reality herself presided over that district, and they’d seen the distant peak of her personal spire every time they’d gone to take to the air. There was a level of teamwork and coordination only raw, drilled instinct could achieve.

But these people weren’t exactly lazy either. They weren’t like the loose coalition of friends and associates that had made up her independent racing “team”, if it could even be called that. Zenshin Hikō-tai had been composed of all of four people- Rikikida herself, Reiyomi playing minder as always, Utashige serving as analyst and second-in-command and Yuki as technician. VSK had personnel for every necessary role, of course. Engineers and designers and all manner of technical experts poured over every inch of her vehicle, trying to tune it to the best specifications they could get out of the design. But it wasn’t the same. How could it hope to be?

They weren’t Chudokuren.

They hadn’t endured the hardships of the Nightmare War. They hadn’t embraced the tyrannical regime and the stability of order. They hadn’t served in the military, at least not the same one she had. They hadn’t soared through the sky the same way she had. When they looked upon the clouds, they saw the cause of rain. They saw what was outside the window of a passenger flight. They saw a few patterns in the splotches. But Rikikida saw her life’s ambitions and losses and dreams splayed out in front of her eyes. She saw a legacy cast to the ground, yet speeding faster than ever before.

They didn’t get it. Of course they didn’t. They hadn’t seen any of it. She watched them as they worked, sometimes. Offered what feedback she could through Reiyomi’s translations, and worked as hard as she could to get better at this bizarre foreign tongue where packing fourteen different syllables into a single written word was somehow supposed to be acceptable. But she swore she caught the glares every now and then, and she had a good guess what they were thinking. A child of tyranny, they thought. An outsider, the thought. A madwoman, they thought.

...Rikikida let out a sigh as she leant against the wall. Maybe she was overthinking things again. It was hard not to now. Everything was so unfamiliar, it was incredible she was allowed to be here and all but it was so different to home that it almost made her sick. Diplomats and soldiers had stepped onto foreign soil before, but they embodied the cause of tyranny, and here she was fighting under the flag of a foreign country- let alone whatever propaganda decals they’d throw into her vehicle next, for the corporations or the sponsors or whatever the hell they were meant to be.

At least back home, even in the roughest of moments, she’d had people to talk to. She amused herself, of course. Pondered what the foreigners would think of a Chudokuren with tens more shūkei marks than her, how scared they’d be of so many tallies in the flesh. What if a neko had come here? One with their ears stumped, not one of the closet fanatics fooling nobody. She wondered just how many insults her country received in a tongue she didn’t know, how many across the world must be cursing her name for qualifying for this tournament at all.

That thought made her smile. She’d do her utmost just to spite the democratic idiots. She wasn’t doing too bad for herself, after all. The last race hadn’t been perfect- far from it- but she hadn’t done awfully. Her teammate on the track had gotten ahead of her, and so Rikikida decided to make a little competition out of it next track- well, in her mind, anyway. Truth was she didn’t know a whole lot about Hakusoe, though perhaps the fellow driver understood her native language. Still, she hadn’t gotten in the way. That was always something.

Goodness, she was spending an awful lot of time reflecting. But that was how it was for her here. So many things to think about that wouldn’t just go away all of a sudden. She had to keep her mind keen and sharp on on-task during the races proper, and even her conversations with Reiyomi demanded a little tact- the last thing she needed was getting reported to the government for making a few improper statements in foreign territory. Better to do all this contemplation when she had nothing better to get done.

...goodness, they were going to run out of decent food soon, weren’t they? She wasn’t looking forward to sampling the local cuisine. ...well, she lived through the Nightmare. She could handle a bit of tasteless food if she had to. It’d be different, sure, but maybe not in a bad way. Maybe not…

She pushed aside the growing feeling of homesickness and pushed off of the wall, starting a walk to see if she couldn’t clear her head a little. Too many new experiences, too many unfamiliar feelings…

...but deep down? She was proud. Of course she was. Who else in the Supreme Ultimate Country had ever been in a position like this? She was the first. A pioneer. And she’d prove herself again and again if she had to, terrorise the track with ruthless speed and ability to demonstrate her supremacy over every competitor...she’d show them what a true Chudokuren was made of.

She’d show them all what they had to fear.

Kudakei, Hodori
Driving Park Kudakei

“Since this is your first time in a car, you’re getting something that you won’t kill yourself in and they won’t yell at us too much about if you break it.”
Looking at the car, Kuyara fidgeted in her rental firesuit. A small mid-engined Tarogama Elysia kei roadster, in their signature off-white and bearing logos of the Driving Park. A safety rollcage had been bolted in, and bucket seats with five-point harnesses replaced the factory seats and three-point seatbelts.
“Your first test.” An’ue looked at her tablet, then back at Kuyara. “Will be to start the car, shift into first, and make it to the end of the pit while staying below 60 km/h. Sayono will guide you through the process.”
Their companion, in her colourful firesuit and already helmeted, made her way to the car. “Let’s get started then, shall we?”
Radio check.” An’ue’s voice came in over the headset.
“I copy, over.”
I copy.
You may begin.
As the Souzare to her left went over the controls and the startup process, the former HADF pilot felt nostalgic. It almost reminded her of the pre-flight checklists she used to do with Suzuchiru seated behind her, before taxiing out onto the runway, taking off for another training exercise, and hopefully bringing the plane back intact. Or flying out to suppress enemy air defences and maybe bringing enough plane back to base.
The car’s 3-cylinder 660cc engine came to life.
How hard could this be?
Sipping a bottle of water, Kuyara watched as mechanics disassembled the rear of the car to pull the drivetrain out.
“If we had weeks, I’d wait to move you to the next phase. We have hours, they won’t let us rent more than we already have, and your flight to Filindostan is tomorrow.” An’ue sighed. “At least you made it to the pit box.”
An’ue directed Kuyara’s attention to ‘Phase Two’ of her crash course: a front-engined Sopheria roadster, similarly modifed as the car she just fried the clutch of. “Same drill as the first, except you have an H-pattern instead of a paddle shift.”
“H-pattern?”
“Named for the shape of the gear selector.” An’ue pantomimed shifting through the gears. “I would’ve liked to have you trained on just sequential paddle shifts, since it’ll be the same in WGP2, but the Sopheria only comes with a five-speed H-pattern.”
A screech of tyres filled the air, followed by a car smacking into metal as some rich idiot lost control of their modifed Alcyone and tried to plant it firmly into an armco barrier.
“Sounds like he’s done with his track time. Once we get the all clear we’ll try to have you run some laps.”
Stop in the box… Good, engine off.” An’ue lowered her walkie-talkie and approached the car as Kuyara killed the engine. “Congratulations, Phase Two complete.
“Yay?” Kuyara exited the car and pulled off her helmet, loking at Sayono. “So how’d I do, teacher?”
“I could do that time in a kei truck. At least the car still runs. There were points where you were shifting too soon or too late, but you do seem to be getting the hang of it.”
Phase three: seeing how Kuyara handled an open-wheel single-seater. In this case, an old Junior Formula car with a turbocharged 2-litre 4-cylinder Sakite boxer engine. From An’ue’s and Sayono’s body language, not well.
“Are you alright?” An’ue called over the radio. “Engine off. Engine off.”
“How do you end up upside-down there?” Sayono asked as Kuyara climbed into the ambulance.
“I just tried driving normally, I think.” Kuyara answered, innocently.
Out of the hospital after a quick examination and a short overnight stay, and Kuyara was on her way to Filindostan for the ETBA trials. Before she and An’ue boarded the plane at Kizagama International Airport, Suzuchiru came along to see them off.

Greeting Valkyria as he entered the lobby were the two cars on display. V2-8, in its metallic red, and the slightly larger V2-10 wearing black paint. Where the light, streaming through the large plate glass windows, struck V2-10’s body and large, triangular, WGPC-esque rooftop air intake at just the right angle, the black took on a golden sheen.

The receptionist welcomed him, gave him his security pass, and directed him past the turnstiles and to the elevator bank. In passable English, she gave him guidance on which floor to head to, where he would meet Nadakei and formalise the paperwork.
“We’re running out of time. We should go ahead and pull the trigger.”
“Devereux.” Nadakei responded.
The other man nodded. “As much as she’s something of a loose cannon, we don’t want to be scrambling for a driver two again.”
“More than we already are.” Nadakei leaned back in his chair. “She’s the only one so far who’s shown interest in coming. We’re dispensing with the interview. Do it.”
The man bowed his head in acknowledgement before departing.

A short time later, as Nadakei and Valkyria posed for photographs and made what was already official more official, PrismRiver Racing offers the second seat to Anneliese Devereux.

From there, after giving Valkyria time to acclimate to the car, they would take the next flight to Twicetagria.

The Kuyara Home

“Hey Junker, welcome home!”
“Who all’s here?” Kuyara asked as she removed her shoes.
“Everyone from Missile Magnet who’s still kicking.”
One by one, everyone present sounded off. The former pilots from the 9th 83rd Mighty Mole and 9th 84th Mad Mouse and their respective EWOs. The retired pilots and WSOs of the 9th 85th Metal Matador and 9th 86th Megaton Mallet. The four SEAD squadrons calling Mizemicha Air Defence Base home. Or as it was affectionately nicknamed from its tailcode and their mission, Missile Magnet Air Base.
“Unfortunate that you didn’t get an offer.”
“Makes you zero for two?”
“Didn’t do the UrGa test.” Kuyara opened her bottle of beer. “Showed up, they turned me away. Apparently paperwork didn’t go through.” She took a swig. “Least I didn’t break the car in Filindostan.”
“So what’s the plan now?” Leaning against one of the stilts under the house, Suzuchiru lit a cigarette, then offered a light to Kuyara.
“I’m just doing this for fun.” Kuyara lit a cigarette of her own. “So I’m not going to be upset if I don’t get a drive. Nor am I picky. Tomorrow, I’ll let Toudeyaku know I’ll drive for anyone who wants me. She can take care of the rest.”

OFFICIAL HOST ANNOUNCEMENT
After further consideration, and with no further word from Laka Strolistandiler, I have made the following decision:
National Armament Corporation Racing may continue this season, but will race with only one driver (Adeline Darlington-Whit) for the year, therefore ensuring that if LST wishes to continue to RP sensitive or controversial topics with his team or driver, other users will not be affected and he can do so in an isolated way.

Scuderia Orange Cow has been added to the season and may sign two drivers. However, even with the change to 29 drivers, we will remain on the current season plan instead of switching to the two-sprint-race plan that was originally in place for a season of more than 29 drivers involved.

This decision is final.

Valkyria: A Fresh Start
Chars was quite, well, confused with his results. The first day, he put in the 2nd fastest lap time of all, just straying Indra Vartak by 2 hundredths of a second. Today was a different story. Second last, and 2 seconds off the pace. Maybe it was just the curse of the number two for him... even though it wasn't really the case.

"It's just a matter of testing new setups," Chars commented in a post-test interview, "You won't want to be sticking to the same setup every time. Even if alternatives don't work as intended we'll figure a solution." In a reassuring voice, he calmly answered that question.

Chars left the interview feeling a bit annoyed and worried at the same time. The only question he was asked other than his huge pace difference was, "Well, how's it like to go down one step to WGP2?" Even if that wasn't asked, another question of similar wording was asked. Chars was known for answering questions in a subtle way, and yet was the answer interviewers wanted. But this? Chars didn't know how to explain his feelings. Was it a feeling of determination and eagerness to get back in form? Or maybe it was an option he reluctantly chose so he wouldn't get bored? Was it even vengeance that he wanted, vengeance to avenge his poor results last season.

"Last season," those two words faintly floated across his mind, but why did it bug him so much?

"I mean..." Chars struggled to continue the sentence, "... well, its not that it was a decision I considered at first, but I'd figure after my season I'd race here, not just for experience, but also to hone my skills against upcoming drivers, as well as make sure my driving skills are still sharp as we head into the next WGPC season." Boom. There was his answer.

'Happy now?' Chars thought with an annoyed undertone.

...

'Ah yes, home sweet home,' Chars thought as he lay on his bed, 'Testing at home is quite convenient, isn't it?' AT that point, Twicetagria was moderately famed for housing Adelphia, quite the dark horse last WGP2 season. It wasn't necessarily a moment of pity when Adelphia wasn't announced in the participating constructors list, but people still felt a bit of sadness that Adelphia's legacy couldn't be continued.

Silver Chariot wasn't a happy person either. "You're saying we're NOT in? Гогдиця! (Bastard)" he said upon hearing the news. He wasn't to be considered a young person anymore, but he could still kick in a huge fuss if he liked it. He was even more enraged when he read that Chars was a contender for the Driver's Championship.

"What's this сулотыда (idiot) doing here? He should be sitting in his corner crying about his results!" Chariot yelled in anger in the office. His employees were used to his angry outbursts. It wasn't an entire coincidence he was nicknamed "Hot-headed" by everyone, including the media. Ponies were an oddity, and even more so when they act like they're not a measly anthropomorphic naked pony.

Suddenly, Chariot got an amazing idea.

"We can bring Chars into the youth academy, can't we?" he asked one of his directors.

"That's crazy! He hates us!" he said. It wasn't unknown that Chars despised Adelphia for no particular reason. Even considering the teams he's been to, they didn't even really have any reason to hate them at all.

“Adelphia aren’t a team to look up to,” Chars quipped a few weeks ago. He’s made news criticising the team, usually with baseless accusations. His hate for them was unfathomable, but whatever the reason was had to be very big.

“He hates us for no reason, that’s true. But... if we try to give him a good reason to join us, he’ll definitely have a change of heart, innit?” Chariot said. The directors did agree with him on that. Chariot had this evil look in his eyes, as if he was planning Chars’ downfall.

“Think of all the benefits it would bring! More international attention, more social media recognition, his huge fanbase and his PR... the choices are endless!” With a scary smirk on his face, Chariot plotted on his next actions.

“Where’s Tina?”

Livonsk, Auruna
Two tests missed due to not having a seat and after a few busy weeks, Haru returned to his family home for a while. It was a long trip from Veratuna but Krazivaran payed for his flight back home. The house was messy, looks like his parents and siblings hadn't been there recently. Eerily quiet when he entered. Now, it's time to clean up the mess.

While cleaning, his phone kept ringing, again and again, which he promptly ignores. On the other end, it was Kraine. "Dammit Haru, pick up. It's important, come on. Kommet enn."

Minutes later, still no response but Kraine keeps calling knowing that Haru will pick up eventually.

Then finally, Haru answers the call. "Heija, Haru."

"Keintallik." Kraine says to himself before going back to the call. "Haru, it's Kraine. Important news."

"Important? Why didn't you tell me earlier?"

"We couldn't contact you earlier, there has been a bit of downtime earlier. Anyway, Nexus will be offering you a seat. Which makes sense, ja? You did well in their Driver Academy thing and showed great pace using their cars and those cars, from what I heard of, would be familiar to you coming from the E-Series. And afterall, you're the first E-Series Drivers' Champion. What do you say?"

"I'll gladly accept their offer, obviously. You guys are going to tell them as I don't have any internet here."

"Aye, alright. Can't wait to see you on track. I'll update you soon."

"Yeah, adni. Inna."

"Ja inna."

Haru puts down his phone, unsure of what to do next but he couldn't contain his excitement inside. "Finally!" He says while trying to ignore the fact that he missed two tests and will have a lot of work to catch up to in the next. Driving for such team in WGP2, no wonder he couldn't contain his emotions that day. He plans ahead, prepares for everything WGP2 throws at him. He knows that it's going to be way different than any domestic series and being a rally driver, it's going to be a whole new experience.

Diarcesia wrote:"Less than a year ago, I wouldn't have known some would see a potential in me to manage a team. Getting my feat wet in WGP2, I already see it's a wholly different ballpark. I'm grateful for you and your people's wits and dedication. I've followed Viska's previous seasons for a while," Aldauren told Artur.

"We're happy to help." Says Artur. "The way this team started out actually reminds me of how Viska started. It's going to be a difficult and bumpy ride but make it all worth it. I had a few moments where I ran the team whenever Jöna was called into all those meetings. Safe to say, I'm better as a strategist than a team principal." He pauses and was deep in thought for a bit. "You remind me of Jöna in some way, I can see this team's success now."

Yogyakulta International Circuit
Pre-season Test

The first session started well for Laura, with the gearbox issue fixed and the weather being nice, it's time to get some laps in. She starts of with 30 laps around the circuit, continuing where she left off by familiarising with the car, trying to get comfortable with it. Lap times for now were slow but was worth the data. "The car feels nice. Although it needs a bit of a tweak to the rear, it feels too planted." Her feedback from one lap.

"Alright, thanks Laura, you can box now for a quick break." Viska race engineer, Erik Halenna says to Laura.

Then Laura immediately asks. "Can I go for another lap? Just a quick one."

"Sure, go ahead."

Laura sets up for a fast lap, DRS open at the start/finish straight then once she crosses the line, the time starts. The first sector a fast until the Kotyog Complex, almost understeering but as quick to correct, the car slides a bit over the two turns. Turn 4 is next, an easy one. Then that's the first sector done, it was a green sector but the lap is not over yet. Laura brakes for Nordus 1 and then comes back on the throttle as early as possible without going too wide then she arrives at the sharpest part of the circuit. Hard on the brakes for the hairpin and done. "Ah, another one." She says off-radio after exiting turn 7. After completing the second sector and going the fastest on it comes the second Nordus Bend. Going uphill unsettled the car a bit but wasn't to severe to lose time. She continues on. Past the unlucky turn then onto turn 14. The elevation changes had some issues with the car but wasn't enough to slow her down. Exiting the final turn, DRS open again for the start/finish straight then she crosses the line to end her lap.

During her in-lap, Erik comes on the radio. "Green S1, Purple S2 and S3, you're the fastest of this session."

"That's a surprise." She responds.

"No surprises to great talent. Box now for a quick break."

She enters the pitlane, then into the garage. Meanwhile, Indra is doing well on-track as well. Starting to feel comfortable with their cars. She feels that the team has a chance. For now, it's time for a bread and coffee break, she was offered some kuurami by Juno and Kata. She's thinking of offering some to Indra if it's alright with him when he returns to the pits.

Artur notices both drivers' performances and updates the test programmes. "Beautiful performances, good times. Pit-stop practice is next. Time to get used to how we do things at the pits. Especially the double stacks."

Ah, more work be done.

From: Michael Lambert
Subject: WGP2 seats

Greetings,

As you've probably been made aware, Scuderia Orange Cow has been added as a late entry to the WGP2 season, and of course this has meant that we are rather far behind other teams in terms of our preparations.

Fortunately, we have been able to put in a few hundred kilometers of basic reliability testing, but now that the season is several weeks away, we need to push forward and that requires a regular race driver who can begin to get used to the car.

We would be interested in discussing your potential interest in one of the two seats we have available. We are well-financed by domestic investors and sponsors, so there would be no problem in offering a retainer for your services, and we certainly would not turn away any personal sponsorship you might have to offer.

Please feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience if wish to discuss the opportunity further.

Sincerely,

Michael Lambert
Team Principal
Scuderia Orange Cow

3 weeks earlier

Michael Lambert wasn't sure if he was dreaming or if what he was hearing on the other end of line was real; he apologized for asking to caller to repeat what had been said, eliciting a chuckle of understanding from the official.

“Yes Mr. Lambert, we are inviting you to join the current season of WGP2 with your team, Scuderia Orange Cow. We regret that this is coming so late in the pre-season, but do you believe you could have something in place ahead of the next official test in several weeks time?”

Lambert was in a bit of a daze, thinking of the millions of details that would have to get sorted out just to get his previously organized team out of mothballs, metaphorically speaking, and then on the track.
“I do believe I might be able to swing it”, he lied. “I accept the offer.”
_______________________________________________________________________________

At 44 years of age, Michael Lambert was the textbook example of entrepreneurship in the Commonwealth of Baker Park; his company, Performance Research Labs, had substantial contracts to help with the data used in designing airplanes, automobiles, rockets, ships—anything that needed aerodynamic analysis. He had a B.S. in Physics from Osheana A&T University and a Doctorate in Computational Fluid Dynamics from University of the Commonwealth.

He located his facility in a rural outpost, a greenfield site where he had the country's largest windtunnel built (capable of housing a full sized military fighter jet), chosen because it was next to the 450 Expressway, a limited access highway mainly used for commercial trucking that bisected the nation, running from east to west with an additional spur that led north to West Chester, home of the above mentioned Osheana A&T and also the hub for the aerospace industry. The Jackson Township complex was also about equally distant from Mansfield, to the east, Baker Park's 'Motor City'; along this corridor was where many companies that produced components for both car & plane were based.

Lambert was a fan of open wheel racing, in particular the WGP and had imagined what it might take to enter a team in the series; he sponsored and provided tech support to the racing community in BP, so he had plenty of contacts with other like minded businessmen (and women) who hoped to help the sport grow.

He asked his friend & business partner Ed O'Malley to do some drawings and research about Formula cars, with an aim that possibly he might start a team of his own in Baker Park, or one of the feeder series to WGP. He broached the subject with Frank Marzetti, Jr. who ran a company that Lambert dealt with on a regular basis, Vulcan Fabricating.
Soon all of the elements began to fall into place, with an agreement in principle to form a team with each investor pledging up to $1 million when the time came.
_________________________________________________________________________________

“We're in!” Michael had immediately phoned Frank, who had the same level of disbelief as Lambert had several minutes earlier.
“You're drunk, right?”
“No, I just got off the phone with the people at WGP. They want us in the WGP2 season, yesterday!”
Marzetti was silent for a time. “There's no way we can pull this off.”

“Sure we can. We've got the chassis, we've got the people lined up, all we need to do is get them started.”

When the partnership finally became a reality, they'd raised around $9 million cash and another $3-6 million in sponsorship contingent on them making the field. When they lost out, Lambert convinced the group to put the funding in escrow for 120 days, in case there was a chance they might be called upon to replace another team. It turned out to be a prescient move.

Second WGP2 Pre-season test
Yogyakulta International Circuit
Yogyakulta, Filindostan

Second pre-season test finished. Teams were starting to pack themselves up, with their minds already in Vilita & Turori for the final round before season starts. After the initial warm-up laps and tweaking car setups, Kaylan had shifted their focus on pit lane for the first session and some tyre change practices were in order. Xander had talked to pit crew before the session, making sure that everyone knew their role and what they need to do. Still, the pit crew had some teething problems at first, as one team member ran to the pitlane with a hard compound tyre in their hands when Ted pulled in for a stop, despite the orders being to go for mediums. After a stalled pitstop and some remarks from Xander, the second pit stop went much better and Anola quickly got a set of soft rubber for her car.

Second session saw some rain starting to pour down, which gave a good opportunity to test Deyoze tyres in wetter conditions. Both drivers got some time with slicks as well as inters and the team gained some valuable data from the session. Xander felt that both drivers handled the conditions quite well, with Ted ending up driving fourth fastest time of the session and Anola remaining calm and consistent throughout the session.

Ralph Felan, CEO of Kaylan had also attended the test to take a look at the team operations. After the test, he and Xander took some time to walk around the paddock and have a little chat.

''I must say, I like what I saw today. The approach you have taken might just be what this team needs right now,'' Ralph said to Xander as the two strolled around.

''I'm happy to hear that from you. The car is also solid, we've had virtually no setbacks with that yet. Your boys seem to have built a great engine for us.''

Ralph smirked for a second, ''We all constantly learn, don't we? One must always aim to get the best out of opportunities provided. Have you ever thought, why are we doing this? Why are we in WGP2 in the first place?''

''To give these youngsters hope. To give them a platform to develop themselves.''

''Yes and no. What you said is a noble mission statement. While you're not wrong, you must also understand that what we're doing here is not a charity. We have our own interests in mind. We have spent the past two seasons to establish a foothold in the series. To get the Kaylan name out there. We have gained ourselves the brand recognition. Now, it is time to get something back from this investment.''

''What exactly are you hinting at?''

''I'm not hinting at anything, in fact, I've been quite straightforward with you. Following the last season, there was a lot of discussion about pulling the plug on our WGP2 program completely. Tanielu's approach proved to not be sustainable in the long run. The team was not making any progress and the costs of running it started to go through the roof. That all got reconsidered after our successful campaign in WGP3 ENZ Championship. Despite NMA ruling out the monopoly on Kaylan, we managed to sign a deal with five different teams to run our engines in the series. Hukerikei 2 proved to be a simple and competitive design, so we decided to take it as a base when building Kaieke 3, scrapping our previous clunky V10 completely. Now, we will showcase that improved design in WGP2, and that's where you come into play.''

Xander scratched his chin, ''Kaylan is planning to use WGP2 as a way to promote their engines for other teams?''

''Absolutely. This is not TTRL anymore, Xander. It's international racing. It's a beautiful sport and a dirty one at the same time. It's a race to be the first to cross the finish line, as well as a game of politics. We have made a name for ourselves here, yet amongst all the other big fishes, we're still relatively small. That is why the board put the faith in you. You have proven yourself as a confident and quick decision maker. And so far, you have done everything we could've wished for. Bringing in Ted Pressley was a brilliant move, the partnership with Ashburn Industries is enough to ensure that the team has enough budget to get through the season. Plus, if Pressley manages to have a decent performance this season, I see our ties with him as a great opportunity for Kaylan to enter the Tumbran market. Signing Anola Melani was a perfect move PR-wise. Supporting a rising talent from, in motorsport terms, an obscure nation is perfect to the public image we have established for ourselves. And the way you managed to get them put a pen to the paper before first pre-season testing was absolutely brilliant. More time for preparations as well as minimizing the chances of some other teams snatching them up.''

''I also see a lot of potential in Anola as a driver, not just a PR face.''

''Of course, don't get me wrong. I'm sure that both her and Ted are very promising drivers and I'm sure that under your guidance, they have a great opportunity to improve and prove themselves. It's just that money and talent goes hand-in-hand in this sport. Every driver is an investment into greater results, which in a turn, pushes the team and brand forward. We can spend time and money to develop young talent, but one moment, the wall comes and blocks the path. Drivers joining this championship usually have WGPC as an end goal in their mind. Once you finish developing a young prospect, eventually, your ways are likely to part. And when that happens, it is important that both sides have got the most out of it.''

''Absolutely, I get what you mean. I can't promise you success, but what I can promise is that I will do whatever it takes to push Kaylan forward throughout the season. The team functions better and better each day, new faces are also not looking that lost anymore and start to understand what and when to do as well.''

''That's what I like to hear. I know it is a challenge for you, but I also know you as a man who likes challenges. And you got what it takes to work with people.'' Ralph looked at his watch, ''Listen, I'm gonna head out to the hotel. Might catch an earlier plane as I've got some meetings to attend tomorrow.''

''Of course,'' Xander shook hands with Ralph, ''thank you for being with us today. I hope you enjoyed it.''

''I sometimes wish every day could be as interesting as this for me,'' Ralph smiled, ''instead, I spend most of my days staring at piles upon piles of documents. Farewell, Xander. Good luck!''

''You too, take care!''

RE: Vilitan Drivers

Dear Mr. Pekkanen,

Thank you very much for reaching out to us. I'm Edward Herrick, Team Director at Fireline Motorsports. I was informed of your email by our Driver Recruitment Administrator, Daniel Greene, that you had on behalf of Ælund Racing, you had emailed us hoping for another team to sign a Vilitan driver in this WGP2 series.

I can confirm that we are very much interested in such an offer, and I'm reaching out to you personally to arrange the signing of one of the Vilitan drivers. We're a team that is very invested in our future in the WGPC and WGP2 series, and so any offers of financial support would be very welcome as we work towards sustainability for the team as a whole.

Furthermore, this is the first time that Fireline Motorsports are having to work with a spec engine without strong support for the team from the manufacturer. In the last WGPC, Fireline did use an external engine supplied by Tropicorp, but the team also had wider support from Tropicorp through the signing of Cocoabo #23 and a wider contractual relationship. In WGP2 4, we lack such a relationship with the spec engine provider and thus would very much welcome any technical support you can add. Any additional support you can provide to our great research and development and engineering team would not go amiss.

If this offer is still open, then we'd very much welcome further communication. Feel free to email my personal email rather than the Fireline Motorsports corporate email, as I will very much be leading the discussions from here.

Many Thanks,
Edward Herrick.
Esportivan and Proud.
