LONELY MULTIVERSE
The Approx Guide to the Equestrian States

Introduction

The Pony Principality of Equestrian States is a diverse country inhabited by several dozen sapient species, each contributing to the nation's proud culture of tolerance and giving the Equestrian States a reputation of compassion and kindness. Tradition and innovation have combined well in this North Pony Lands nation, rapidly bringing it into the modern world after centuries of self-imposed isolation from the rest of the multiverse. This Lonely Multiverse travel guide is designed to be the ultimate companion for any tourist (regardless of their species) visiting the Equestrian States, and is loaded with every tip and bit of advice one needs to have an safe and enjoyable stay.

History

Originally colonized by sapient equines (commonly referred to as ponies) from Magical Equestria over 2000 years ago, the Equestrian States was first established as a largely-autonomous overseas territory of its motherland. As a colony, the Equestrian States was fairly prosperous, developing a matriarchal society similar to that of Magical Equestria and other prominent Pony Lands nations. Several decades after the first ponies set hoof on the islands now part of the Equestrian States, however, the rise of a mysterious and chaotic entity known as Discord led to the government of the growing colony to adopt strict isolationist policies to avoid attracting the attention of Discord.

Several centuries later, the anarchic reign of Discord in the Pony Lands came to an end, though the Equestrian States remained firmly entrenched in its isolationist policies. Having formally declared its independence from Magical Equestria during the rule of Discord, the Equestrian States was reluctant to turn away from the policies which had allowed it to escape the turmoil faced by the rest of the region. Yet another cataclysmic event, just over a millennia ago, saw the known world embroiled in conflict with itself and the fledgling former colony sunk deeper into isolation for the next several centuries.

However, about 200 years ago, the long-standing policies separating the Equestrian States from the rest of the region gradually began to erode with the rapid growth of international maritime trade. Though it would take until just 50 years ago for the remaining isolationist policies to be overturned or made obsolete, foreigners began to take note of the Equestrian States and its northern location in the Pony Lands. What finally drove the ponies of the Equestrian States to abandon isolationism entirely was commerce, with the nation's location being perfect as a refueling and stopping point for ships traveling from outside the Pony Lands.

Active membership in the Coalition of Ponyist States (a military, economic, and political alliance famed for its quick, efficient, and merciless dealings with nations actively persecuting sapient equines and other non-humans) gave the Equestrian States reason to become heavily involved in international politics and trade. Within a decade, the Equestrians entered the modern era, utilizing magic in creative ways to avoid industrial pollution wherever possible and speed the nation's development.

Today, the Equestrian States is an advanced country that has successfully merged tradition, magic, and technology. With an economy dominated by tourism, agriculture, and the mining of precious minerals, the Equestrians have found their niche in the international community. Thanks to its location in the Pony Lands, the Equestrian States has become a travel hub for many visiting the region from around the world, and the nation is easily among the more prosperous and safe for foreigners to visit.

Geography & Climate

The Equestrian States is best described as an island nation. However, most Equestrians live on the largest island, which is referred to by locals as the mainland, due to its size and role as a population and commercial center for the country.

The mainland is mostly flat grassland and plains, though forests and hilly areas exist and are generally scattered throughout the island. Running north to south are the Harmony Mountains, named for Mt. Harmony near the capital city of Canterlot. The mountain range divides the mainland into eastern and western geographic regions, and was once home to dozens of active volcanoes. However, no eruption has occurred in the Harmony Mountains in over 800 years, and the range is believed to be inactive. The ancient volcanic activity on the mainland (and on many of the Equestrian States' smaller islands, as well) resulted in mineral deposits from which Equestrian miners have extracted gold, silver, and other valuable materials for export.

Two notable exceptions to the mainland's grassy majority are the Everfree Forest and Southern Desert. The Everfree Forest is more of a jungle than a temperate forest, and is widely considered the most dangerous region in the Equestrian States due to its large numbers of wild carnivorous species, some of which would be considered "mythical" by foreigners. Within the Everfree Forest is the city of Everfree, located along the banks of the Stampede River and home to the largest population of non-equines in the nation. A number of more typical temperate forests surround the Everfree Forest itself.

The Southern Desert is (as one might expect) a dry region located in a small pocket of flat land surrounded by the Harmony Mountains near the southern coast. The only major population center in the Southern Desert is the small city of Appleoosa, located in what could be considered by some as a cooler oasis.

But where things begin to get weird for the average tourist is the Equestrian States' weather. Due to the magical nature of many of its inhabitants, the Equestrians are fully capable of creating, manipulating, and otherwise controlling the clouds and weather. This gives them the ability to determine where and when in rains, snows, hails, or any other . The Equestrian government is very actively involved in coordinating the pegasai of the country to generate and control weather patterns favorable to the Equestrian States inhabitants (and its many farmers, in particular). As such, the odds of an Equestrian weatherpony giving an incorrect forecast are almost nonexistent, unless you happen to be in the Everfree Forest (the only region of the Equestrian States where the weather is practically impossible to control due to a prevalence of wild magic).

Travel

Travelling to the Equestrian States is generally easy, as most methods of interregional travel are available to visitors from outside the Pony Lands. Most international flights to the Equestrian States arrive at Canterlot's Harmony International Airport, but other regularly-used airports such as Manehattan's Royal International and Stalliongrad's Friendship Heights International are easy to find flights to. However, it should be noted that pilots flying to and from the Equestrian States internationally must receive additional certification due to the nature of the Equestrian States and much of the Pony Lands. Because of this additional requirement for pilots, some airlines do charge extra to cover the training fees.

Another common way of reaching the States is via sea. Manehattan's seaport is among the most active in the North Pony Lands, and isn't located far from the heart of the Equestrian States' largest city.

Once in the Equestrian States, there are many other options for travel. Rental cars, taxis, and busses are easy to find in the larger cities such as Manehattan, Stalliongrad, and Everfree, though one might notice that most vehicles are electric-powered. But while cars and busses are regularly used in some cities, there are also several in which their use is limited to emergency services (most notably in Ponyville and Canterlot's Old City district) or is totally banned (as is the case in Cloudsdale).

However, the limited use of automobiles is balanced out by the proliferation of trains for travel between and within cities. Some of the more prominent and historical lines (such as the Ponyville-Canterlot Express) still use steam-powered engines or high-speed trains designed to mimic the classical appearance of an Equestrian train. Subways are also a common feature in Equestrian cities, spreading underground to connect many places of interest for foreign tourists. Cloudsdale is the only city where cars, buses, and trains/subways are unavailable.

But in the end, the most common method of travel in the Equestrian States is one's own two feet (or whatever you have to walk on). Few Equestrians drive or use public transportation unless they have to, preferring to take in the clean air on their way from place-to-place.

Culture & Society

Religion

Any analysis of Equestrian culture and society must begin with its majority religion and guiding philosophy: Harmonism. A dualistic religion, it revolves around the physical sun and moon deities, Celestia and Luna, as well as the six principles known as the Elements of Harmony. The religion's origins are near-impossible to determination, though it is widely believed to begun shortly after ponykind first encountered Celestia and Luna over two millennia ago. Unlike other religions, Harmonism lacks a written scripture or centralized multiversal organization to create such writings, occasionally resulting in disagreements between Harmonists from different regions. For the sake of brevity, we will only be exploring the most common spiritual and secular beliefs held by those from the Equestrian States.

As stated earlier, the central beliefs of Harmonism include the worship of the Regal Sisters (Celestia and Luna) and adherence to the Elements of Harmony. Celestia and Luna are the two Princess rulers of distant Magical Equestria, though Luna has (in recent years) begun to spend considerable time aiding the C'tan in preserving peace throughout the Pony Lands. Immortal and, according to spiritual Harmonists, capable of moving celestial bodies through magic, the two Regal Sisters are worshiped (or at least respected) by ponies throughout the multiverse as living goddesses. Some have recently begun to question the actual power of the Sisters, though it is widely accepted among ponykind that they are the two most powerful magical beings in existence.

The six Elements of Harmony are Honesty, Laughter, Kindness, Generosity, Loyalty, and Magic. These Elements exist both as philosophical concepts as well as physical objects capable of great power that contain the purest magical essence of the aforementioned virtues. The philosophical aspects of the Elements are more central to Harmonist faith as a set of morals to guide one throughout life. They are, for the most part, fairly self-explanatory, except for Magic. The sixth element has been connected not only to the ability of equine Harmonists to use magical spells, but also to the drive for new knowledge or understanding. It also has been connected to the power of friendship, and is mentioned in the most common Harmonist saying: "Friendship is Magic".

However, Harmonism has expanded from its spiritual roots (particularly as more non-equines are exposed to harmonist teachings) to become a secular philosophy as well. Secular Harmonists generally try to follow the virtues of Harmonism, though they generally do not believe that the Regal Sisters are physical goddesses. The expansion of Secular Harmonism has also led to the traditional virtues being adopted and woven into other religions as well, such as Christianity. Excluding the overwhelmingly Spiritual Harmonist equine population of the Equestrian States, the most common religion is Harmonist Christianity, which is especially popular among the human inhabitants of the nation.

Language

Traditionally, ponies have spoken in their native Equestrian tongue which is common throughout the Pony Lands. However, since the emergence of the Equestrian States into the international community, laws have been passed requiring citizens to be capable of speaking multiple languages. The most common non-Equestrian language is easily English, which is spoken by approximately two-thirds of the population. It should be noted that some English words have been altered by Equestrians to better fit the equine majority, as the use of "everypony", "anypony", "hoofball", and other such words are modifications of the more standard English words. Mastery of many different languages is especially common among Unicorns, and as they are generally the ones more involved in business, are easy enough to find for foreign visitors. Numerous translating services exist throughout the Equestrian States, and airport bookstores generally contain a plethora of multilingual dictionaries for purchase.

Food

As one might expect from a nation dominated by a species of herbivores, many traditional Equestrian dishes are vegetarian in nature. The proliferation of such food is also furthered by the general lack of agriculture for the purpose of raising up animals for the slaughter. To hurt another living creature is, to many Equestrians, simply unthinkable. However, the Equestrian States is not only inhabited by equines, but also by griffons, dragons, and humans (among others). Restaurants do exist to cater to these non-equine species, and do serve a wide variety of meats imported from outside of the region. That being said, it would be unwise to be seen in public eating a hamburger made from beef or any other meat product as many Equestrians are disgusted by such foods. This can make finding food difficult in smaller cities and in the nicer areas of the larger ones. A general tip would be: if your waiter looks like a herbivore, don't ask them for a cheeseburger or steak. Equestrian cafes are fairly creative with what they can do with non-meat products, and the bread and pastries are oftentimes better than what you might find in other nations.

Drink in the Equestrian States also differs significantly from other nations around the multiverse, as the most common alcoholic beverage is hard cider, which can be found at virtually every bar, pub, and restaurant. Ponies generally refrain from drinking too heavily, but other non-human sapients such as griffons are known to consume vast quantities of alcohol in a single sitting. We advise our human readers to graciously decline any drinking challenges offered, as one is unlikely to win, and drunk griffons can be notoriously temperamental. Beer is a distant second to cider, in terms of both popularity and availability, though bars and eateries which cater to human tourists will often keep domestic Equestrian brands in stock.

Inter-Species Relations

As the Equestrian States is home to a wide range of species, it is practically impossible for any visitor to the country to avoid seeing a member of another species, regardless of where they might be. Unicorns could pull this off in certain neighborhoods of Canterlot, and Earth Ponies could do the same in isolated rural areas, though foreigners will often stumble across other species upon entry into the Equestrian States as customs officials are perhaps the most diverse Equestrian demographic.

Relations between the three major pony races have not always been smooth, and some tensions still exist today despite the educational system's teaching of acceptance and tolerance. However, inter-species violence is very rare within the Equestrian States, as is violence in general, with the possible exceptions coming from dragons, griffons, and other more naturally-aggressive species. Angering a dragon is about as dumb as it sounds, and is not advised unless one has a death wish.

Visitors to the Equestrian States are also advised to avoid appearing speciesist to locals, as Equestrian society could be described as having a herd mentality, where an attack against or insult towards one person might be considered an attack on all those around that person. Thus, some words to avoid using in the Equestrian States are: horse, mule, foal, or donkey. Calling a pony any of those terms is likely to result in a backlash towards the offending individual, as they are considered to be offensive unless one is actually speaking to a sapient horse or donkey, which are both easy to tell apart from ponies through their size and general lack of bright-colored fur or manes.

Host Cities for the Water Polo International Championships

Canterlot

Canterlot is the capital city of the Equestrian States and one of its oldest. Located on the steep slopes of Mt. Harmony and the surrounding lands, Canterlot has evolved over time into a burgeoning metropolis that reflects the qualities the nation that houses its government in the city. The capital’s traditional sophisticated architecture has been almost seamlessly blended with the more modern styles to make it perhaps the most visually-appealing cities in the Equestrian States.

Founded by the first wave of equine settlers that came to what is now the Equestrian States from Magical Equestria over a millennium ago, Canterlot was originally named New Canterlot as inspired by the capital of the settlers’ origin. However, when the then-colony was cut off from its mother country, the memories of the old Canterlot began to fade and the name was shortened to simply Canterlot. Contact with Magical Equestria after the Equestrian States emerged from isolation in the northernmost parts of the Pony Lands resulted in the existence of two Canterlots and the Equestrian Parliament briefly considered renaming the city again out of respect for its older cousin, but then decided against it.

By far, the best place to visit in Canterlot is Harmony Castle. One of the oldest structures in the Equestrian States, the castle was constructed by unicorn builders as part of the original colonization effort. Currently home to the royal family of the Equestrian States, Harmony Castle also houses Parliament’s formal meeting chambers and is a regular stop on most tourists’ stays in Canterlot. The castle is open to tours most days of the week, tickets for which should be acquired no less than one week prior to the tour date on the Castle’s official webpage.

The Venue: Royal Aquatics Center (cap. 5,825)
Will host matches for Groups A & D
After successfully hosting the Baptism of Water without any notable issues, the Equestrian Water Polo Association is retaining the Royal Aquatics Center as its primary venue for the WPIC. The venue isn't likely to win any awards for extravagance, being a fairly plain arena, but it's reasonably modern and like virtually all Equestrian sports venues, it's built around a comfortable fan experience.

Manehattan

The most populous city in the Equestrian States, Manehattan is arguably the economic capital of the nation. Although the equine residents of the city might not be typical for foreign visitors, the city is the most normal of any Equestrian city when looking at its architecture and attractions. Most cities were reluctant to industrialize as the Equestrian States entered the modern world, but it was not the case with Manehattan, where industry and commerce are dominant.

One of the first settlements formed in the initial colonization of the ‘States over 1000 years ago, Manehattan has always been viewed as one of the most important cities in the Equestrian States. Home to a sophisticated upper class and a large, rougher, lower class group of laborers, the denizens of Manehattan are second only to Everfree when looking at diversity. Originally, when the Equestrian States was ruled only by a powerful aristocracy, Manehattan rivaled Canterlot for number of nobles, but was also a breeding ground for resentment. Advocating reform, the underprivileged lower classes eventually pushed the Equestrian government towards becoming a constitutional monarchy. The spirit of innovation and advocacy that caused those early reformers to act is still prevalent in the city’s inhabitants to this day.

For tourists, Manehattan offers a number of attractions. Foremost among them is the financial district in the downtown area, where a vast number of shops and eateries offer the finest of Manehattan culture.

The Venue: Manehattan Beach Park (cap. 3,471)
Will host matches for Groups B & C
The EWPA wanted a seaside venue for the WPIC, and best meeting that criteria was Manehattan's Beach Park. An open-air venue right next to Manehattan Harbor, Beach Park is a pleasant place to take in a game of water polo, with seating having been expanded to meet the EWPA's requirements for the WPIC.

DUNNES WATER POLO FEDERATION
MEN'S NATIONAL TEAM

TEAM INFO

No changes to the roster here after a third place finish in the Baptism of Water. The Dunians are led by star attacker Duncan Mactavish. The Olympian is the all time Dunian leading scorer, and is looking to wreck havoc on the opposing teams at the first BOW. Other star players to look out for include Koa Forée and Kyle Buchee, the young attacker, and the experienced goalie. Dunnes will apply their traditional high pressure defense, looking to provoke their opponents into mistakes and scoring opportunities.

Quote of the Week: "A NEW STORY ON WRITING THREAD FOR HALLOWEEN!! MYSTERY MINE AVAILABLE NOW!"

RPs I do
- How do you do fellow kids? You want to see something violent? - Artemis: Deimos Trafficking League (Horror/Mature)
- Descend into the forgotten tourist traps of Florida on this transgressive RP! - The Community (Mature/Black Comedy/Slice-of-Life)

My overall account that I use for P2TM and even for international roleplaying! MNM is a mysterious and extremely dangerous dictatorship filled with supernatural oddities, demons, militarized soldiers everywhere, and a misanthropic nihilistic dictator who doesn't give a damn. It's basically if the SCP Foundation got mixed with 1984.

Azadeshi Sports News (ASN)

Water Polo: Danger Group
The matches are starting in a few weeks, but we already have a bad news.We are in group A and in the group are strong teams like Equestrian States and Razenthuria.Looking at the group draws Captain Sharya Thakur said "We are in a tough group, but there is way in every problem".

Basketball: Position 3rd
A really great start for Azadeshia after finishing in third place.

Other great news in Azadeshia is that the Azadeshi Water Polo Splash League (AWPSL) is starting soon!

WPIC 3
Official Newmanistan Roster

Presenting the official roster of the Newmanistanian Water Polo Team. What? The official Water Polo team? We have one? Well, we did it in the Olympics way back when, but that was about it. The sport isn’t contested at any serious level in Newmanistan. Sure, aquatic clubs have competitions, but there was never an official team. There still isn’t.

So, who are these people?

They aren’t Water Polo players at all. No, they are just a bunch of Rockets fans who were still celebrating the World Baseball Classic 41 championship in the Equestrian States and did not want to rush home. They were about to go home when they heard about the competition and the need for a last minute urgent replacement for another nation. “Why not?” They thought. They submitted an official entry form, and got approval from Emperor Michael V to reference themselves as our national team for the tournament.

Once approval was attained, they headed to a local aquatic facility to get an idea of who might be best at what position. This is what they come up with after a two hour training session.

Then, they went on to win the Baptism of Water.

What is going on with these guys?

Starters:
Goalie- Chris Rossi, 30 (#1)
LB- Paul Haeberlin, 25 (#3)

Convo between Zach Stiller and Chris Rossi

Stiller: Did you get your present from winning the Baptism of Water?

Rossi: I got a few gifts. It's weird that people know who I am and think of me now as a professional athlete.

Stiller: Yeah, it's going to be weird going back home. But we're like celebrities now.

Rossi: Not yet, but maybe.

Stiller: I was thinking maybe we can get like big endorsement deals? Surely there will be something?

Rossi: Yeah, I think so. I have started to see a little more coverage of the tournament now at home. Maybe we will have a true rooting section at our first game.

Stiller: They'll bring flags and anything. And maybe, we'll even get groupies!

Rossi: Groupies?

Stiller: Groupies. For us.

Rossi: Hell yeah. Groupies!

"The Killer Zora"
The Hinodejin Water Polo National Team - Water Polo International Championship 3

The Hinodejin Water Polo national team was created in an effort to introduce the sport of Water Polo to the nation's masses, as the sport has long been a favourite past-time of the small but rabid Zora populace that formed villages and few cities under the water.

The Zora are fish-like people. They are generally covered with silver scales, which give them a pale blue sheen from a distance, and have dark blue spots on their extremities. Where humans sometimes have long hair, average Zoras have rear-hanging caudal extensions of their heads shaped like the tails of dolphins, perhaps as a cephalic form of dorsal fin. Their integration into the Empire was under the term of the first Queen, Satomi, and because of this, they're usually very respected.

Pos.	Name Age	Team
GK Olin Minasaku 23 Zora Seadragons
RB Tapem Toroki 25 Zora Seadragons
CB Avos Michinaru 27 Zora Seadragons
LB Eros Michizaki 20 Zora Tide
RW Tire Minamikage 21 Amelia Surfers
LW Taler Saitonami 24 Harriot Royals
FW Kipon Minamishima 22 Zora Tide
GK Ites Koriminna 23 Monck Blues
RB Joje Tsugeru 20 Amelia Surfers
CB Peve Kirasaki 22 Harriot Royals
LB Majen Kyokitaki 19 Harriot Royals
RW Jiles Michinami 19 Zoraki Seadragons

Can the Mermen win 3 championships in a row?

The West Phoenician Mermen have travelled to the Equestrian States to take part in the Water Polo International Championships 3rd edition.
Where the two time champions plans to dominate the water once again to obtain a first place win giving them a hat trick in this international competition.

Head Coach Paul Heavenwood is quietly confident his men can pull off this amazing feat of winning a third title. The line up remains the same with the notion why change the roster when it's not broken.

The Mermen have arrived early in the Equestrian States to get in some further practise and to adjust to the climate before the championship begins.

The Mermen will first compete in Group c before progressing. As the top 3 teams progress The Mermen are confident they can skip the top 12 and move straight to the quarter-finals not seeing any visible threats from their grouping.

With the West Phoenician Scorpions, the nations basketball team bowing out in the quarter finals which in itself is a victory the Mermen have been promised top billing on the WP Sports 1 channel.

As per custom the team made the pilgrimage to the Temple of Poseidon in the West Phoenician city-state of Mythologica to lay wreaths of flowers by the feet of the statue as well as an offering of some of West Phoenicia's best oranges and peaches. Two fruits they are known for.

The Mermen eagerly wait the start of the competition where they will first take on unranked team the United Celtic Peoples. While they would love a first game win, unranked teams can be an enigma until one witnesses their game play and strategy. The game could fall either way. But the Mermen are winners and plan to stay that way.

The Vekaiyun Water Polo Team Readies for its Second Shot
A special edition from Vekaiyu's Codexian (read: OOC language like English) paper, The Ivessi Outreach Click here for Unonian Language Version

SKENDIA - In what was a heartbreaking loss for the national team at home waters, the Vekaiyun National Water Polo team just couldn't overcome a quick 4-0 deficit early in the first period, even though they made up for it in the later rounds. Despite the faded pictures and analytics running their typical diatribes and explanations, the likes, a reoccurring theme was consistent: Vekaiyuns had nothing to be ashamed of. This was an all-vulpine team operating from a nation fresh off glory in the Twelfth Summer Olympiad in which the men's and women's team took bronze and silver respectively. This was a rather young team that had been mostly serving as members of individual major league teams scattered across Vekaiyu before being drafted in a sort of odd "expansion draft" format. And, this was a mixed team of men and women going against a more physical, more powerful all-men's team that won out the year prior. Ultimately, there will always be handicaps, but Vekaiyuns have never balked at the chance to overcome challenges.

Image
Translated: New Water Polo Suit,
Female Variant. Made with Starocene®
fabric technology.
"So long as I'm the coach here, Vekaiyu's team will be balanced with gender," Salvatoro Islemasesi pontificated as he peered over his plans and procedures for producing points. "A true Vekaiyun understands the dynamics both genders give a team: finesse, power, directional speed, inertia, and vector speed. It sounds scientific, but it is not. Watch film if you don't believe me."

"I don't see why gender is relevant," leading scorer for the Vekaiyuns Selvala Useveli remarked. "I mean, the first competition was in a nation of humans, the second was in a nation of vulpines, and the third is... horse people with seahorse people? Whatever formula works, I say. It makes the competition more unique."

The team will have a bit more help this time around, too. In keeping with the uniforms developed for The Vekaiyun National Underwater Hockey Team (and the warm reviews from those who played in them during the Twelfth Summer Olympiad), The Vekaiyun National Water Polo Team has updated their uniforms with the new Starocene® fabric technology. This material is rather slippery and allows for fast movement while at the same time meriting quick changes in direction, as the sport necessitates. Patented Leroskar piping on the fabric streamlines the flow of water over the vulpine body. The female variant will undergo no changes aside from a change in color, showcased on the right. The male variant will feature the same color shift, with piping on the jammers changing pattern from further testing performed in between the Olympiad and the Third WPIC.

"I don't need a fancy new pair of shorts to do my job," Ehjy Kirveli said with a grimace when asked if he had practiced in the uniform before. "Give me some clothes from the church donation and I'll do just fine. But, yeah, I mean I have to admit, it's nice to be appreciated."

And appreciated is something the Vekaiyuns hope to have in this competition. They will be faced with several strong teams in their group draw, and the players should fare well up until the semifinals (at least, that's what the pundits say). But another battle looms at home: Ankyela Suyastroveri and her attempt to further push Water Polo in Vekaiyu. She herself is a former water polo player whose injury in the water some five years prior was a blessing in disguise as it elevated her career toward coaching, then management, then briefly as a joint-commissioner in the Vekaiyun Water Polo circuit. She is committed to pushing the sport toward Vekaiyu's unquestionable #1 sport, underwater hockey as the commissioner for the Vekaiyun National Water Polo team.

"There's a battle for sport supremacy, they just don't know it yet," she remarked after her morning press conference when questioned on just how far she believes water polo can move in this nation.
"Your uniform doesn't seem to fit. You're much too alive in it."

Dunnes to Open Dunnes WPL to Foreign Players Post-WC3

MIROLA, DUNNES-The Dunnes Water Polo League is proud to announce that they will be opening the league to foreign players after the upcoming world championships in the Equestrian States. Teams will be able to offer players contracts three days after the final, and are limited to five foreign nationals per team.

“We want to make this league the best league in the world. In order to do so, we need some foreign talent, to bring up the talent of our own players.” said Dunnes Water Polo Federation President Brian Park.

“We welcome the players of the world to the sunny waters of Dunnes. Here they will be able to earn a sizable paycheck, and compete against some of the best talent in the world, in some of the best facilities in the world.” he continued.

The Dunnes WPL (Water Polo League) has 15 teams located throughout Dunnes, with the majority on Dunnes’ western coast, where water polo is in some places more popular than football. All of the Dunnes national team currently play in the league.

“We want to make the WPL the best in the world, and are working with the DWPF in order to make sure foreign athletes will be able to accepted into Dunnes, legally and socially.” remarked Secretary of Sport, Natalie Okamura.
“We will streamline the immigration status so that the athletes are allowed to compete in no time.” she further remarked.

About the Dunnes WPL

The Dunnes Water Polo League (WPL), is one of the sole professional Water Polo Leagues in the world. The WPL consists of 15 teams across Dunnes, all comprised of professional players. Each team participates in the regular season before a 4 team playoff takes place. Mirola WP are the defending champions. Each team is owned by an athletics club, or an independent owner, and compete in some of the finest venues in the world. The WPL is headquartered in Atkinson Beach, Outer Mirola, next to the DWPF offices.

About the Dunnes Water Polo Federation

The Dunnes Water Polo Federation (DWPF) is proud to serve as the National Governing Body for Water Polo in Dunnes. The DWPF sanctions more than 430 competitions and connects with nearly 90,000 members each year, making it the one of the largest Water Polo organizations in the world. In addition to its work with athletes, coaches, and officials on the grassroots level, the DWPF provides leadership and support to elite athletes competing at international events, including the World Championships, and Olympic Games. The DWPF is a proud member of the IWPF and the Dunnes Olympic Committee (DOC).

OOC: For the duration of this tournament, I'm just doing a series on Banija's largest religion- Banijan Mormonism. It's a look like RL Mainstream Mormonism, except the history is different and some beliefs are different, which I will detail throughout the course of this tournament.

Puritan Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints: The Beginning

The setting is ancient Herzegovina City, Moravica, Banija, in the year 1614. The original capitol of the Kasanke Tribe, their Shujaas, or chiefs, are the ancestors of Bania's current line of Kabakas, or Kings. They are Banija's current majority ethnic group, with approximately 61% of Banians being a member of the group.

Kirunda Museveni was walking forward. He was the first son of the eldest sibling of the Shujaa, but he wasn't a child of the Shujaa himself. He was able to live a pretty good life, the life of the Shujaa's nephew- he grew up close to Mujaguzo Palace. His mother, being the only sister of the chief, lived a pretty good life as well. She was always protected, and well cared for. The Kasanke Tribe got along with the other tribes in the region, Bokassa and Iturbide. It disappointed him greatly, however, that he would likely never grow up to be the Shujaa himself.

He wasn't smarter than Kabonero III, no doubt, that man was a great leader. But he was most definitely smarter than his son, Albert. What kind of a name was Albert, anyways? He didn't have a traditional name, like the rest of his family- one of Kabonero III's crazy 'modernization' ideas, to grow us closer with the outside world. The outside world was crazy anyways. Those Catholic missionaries were only here for a short while- what they said and did never made any sense.

"Mother, I'm going out!" He yelled to his Mom as he left the house. Nobody yelled anything back. Was she even home? He didn't know, and frankly, he couldn't care if she was back. He was going to go on a hunt. It was going to be a lone hunt. Goats roamed around the countryside, and he would be easily able to kill one and bring it home. While in other countries, he had heard that they had domesticated their goats, it was far more fun for Kirunda to have wild goats. Where's the fun in killing the animal if you don't even have to hunt it? Regardless, he saw one that had dawdled off. IT was sitting there, grazing on grass. He walked up to it. He slowly stalked it. The animal was his. And then-

"Argh!" Yelled Kirunda. The goat looked up, and ran off. But there had been a blinding flash of light that had hit Kirunda Museveni. What had happened? He stood up, and was a little bit dazed. He was frustrated, of course, that he lost the goat, but that wasn't the first thing that was on his mind. What was that flash of light?

"Go home Kirunda. Return tomorrow- alone." A booming voice called out, in his own native tongue. But who was speaking? He was looking around, frantically. The voice didnt' seem to be coming from any direction- rather, it seemed to be coming towards him from all directions at the same time. What was going on? Kirunda didn't really understand what the heck was going on, but it was clear he wasn't going to get his goat. At least he had already met his quota for the week. He went home, and spent time with his wife.

He had the strangest dreams. All Kirunda Museveni could dream of was the forest he had been hunting in. All he could dream off was the light. Did he have to go back there? What told him to do it? When he woke up, he talked to his wife. "Honey, I want you to go hunting with me."

"Hunting??" Exclaimed his wife. Her name was Mirellie Museveni. "Why in the world are you going hunting, Kirunda? I thought you caught your quota? And regardless, why would I go hunting? You know as well as I do that I can't hunt- I have to cook the pig you brought us three days ago."

"Honey, I just want you to come with me." Said Kirunda. He would never admit it, he had to go back- the draw was strong. But what was he going to do? Admit fear?

"Just go do whatever you need." Said Mirellie, dismissive. "I have things to do." And just like that, the conversation was over. Kirunda would have to go by himself. Frustrated, he said nothing, and left. He was told to go alone anyways- maybe this was a good thing? But even though he wasn't hunting, he brought his spear with him anyways. He didn't want to end up a dead man, and what was he going to say anyways? He heard a voice?

Kirunda Musveni walked back to that forest, where he had seen the goat. What was he going to do now? He didn't really know what to do. He picked a jackfruit off of a tree, and starting eat that. After he finished, he simply began walking around. How long had he been here? It had to have been an hour at least- and now he was getting bored. Maybe he hallucinated yesterday? Got too tired? Just as he got up to go home, he heard a voice. "THE TREE!" It was loud and clear. While he was in a forest and there were a ton of trees, maybe he meant the tree at home?

He went back to his home, and walked up to the tree. His wife walked up to him. "Kirunda, you're back? Did you hunt anything? Did you even try? Banange Kirunda- you aren't even sweating! Where were you?" She was angry. He didn't really know what to say to her, but then, he heard the voice.

"DIG!" Said the voice. He had heard it, and his wife just looked at him.

"What was that honey?" Said Mirellie. "That loud voice- did it say something? Who is talking?" Mirellie was spinning around, trying to look for somebody. "It sounded like your grandfather!"

"Honey," Said Kirunda. "Get me the shovel." She ran down to the house, incessantly asking questions, but he ignored her. When she brought him the shovel, she simply sat and watched him dig. He dug. And dug. For almost 2 hours, he was digging around that tree. But then- he heard a thump. What in the world did he hit?

"Kirunda!" Said the booming voice. "Those are the golden plates. They are the history of this land before the Kasanke people arrived, they are the history of my people. They followed me, but when they stopped following them, I did not deliver them from the hands of your ancestors. But now the Kasanke people must carry this son. I want salvation for this Earth."

"Who... Who are-e you?" Trembled Kirunda. "Where are you speaking from?"

"I am the morning and the evening star!" Boomed the voice. "I am the creator! I am everything! I am the source, and I am the summit. I shall reveal myself in due time. I have decided to rescue the Kasanke people. You will come out here, every night, with your wife. I will make the plates visible to you in your language. And you and your wife will transcribe these plates. And through you, we will have salvation. The world's salvation shall be brought by those who I allowed to slay my good people. The people of Mormon."

Kirunda and his wife were both on their knees. Trembling, Mirellie cried out "My God! My God!" And began sobbing.

"Now GO!" Boomed the voice. "You will be back here when the moon is at it's highest point- you and your wife. As it is written- 'My people, the people of Mormon, shall leave me, lose my protection, and I will not deliver them from the guillotines of their foes. But from their foes, the men of God shall rise, and salvation shall be brought to all the Earth'."

Kirunda and his wife walked away. They walked down to their house. It was in the early afternoon, but it was clear that they would have a series of long nights ahead of them. They would turn in around 7, a very early night, but they knew that they'd have quite a long night ahead of them...

Notable Staff

LPA President- Jacob Valeri (age 64)
He took over from the interim president going into WPIC 3. Not hired because of his water polo acumen, but rather for his showmanship; he was expected to bring more credibility and popularity to water polo domestically. Whether he has done his job effectively is debatable but one thing is for sure; he kept his name (and by extention, the LPA and the national team's) in the headlines from the beginning. However, at times he stole the spotlight from the team or the coaches with his own antics. He became known for his very bold, opinionated statements and his inclination to disrespect other teams and countries. At times, this has gotten him into trouble; for example, he got Vekaiyu to protest the Newmanistani national anthem in the WPIC 3 semis because of his decision to back a bylaw which would have prevented non-humans from competing in the Star League. He is a very polarizing figure, but as long as Aggrey-Fynn Land continues their winning ways and the popularity of water polo skyrockets, he appears to be here to stay.

Head Coach- Arthur Martin (age 38)
A skilled water polo player when he was in school and a rabid fan when he grew up, Arthur had to content himself with coaching his local high school team, as Aggrey-Fynn Land had no professional setup for the sport. When he was hired, he didn't have any professional experience with water polo (like most Landers), so his coaching skills were not the best. However, his passion and determination has lead him to great success early in his career, and he has not only succeeded in making water polo a popular sport domestically, but making Aggrey-Fynn Land a water polo powerhouse in the multiverse. His strong suit is his love for the game, positive energy, and his ability to connect with the players. He is his players biggest supporter, and has been known for cheering even louder than the fans when his team scores!

With the help of his assistant, Beverly Lambert, he has created a team based on explosive speed and unrelenting stamina. Speed is the key to their offense, with quick movement, passes, and shots utilized in the hopes of catching the opponent off-guard and getting goals. Their defensive play prizes strategy over aggressiveness, and aims to cause turnovers using high pressure and create counter-attacking opportunities. His preferred formation can be found below.

Assistant Coach- Beverly Lambert (age 30)
Not a polo player as a child, but a champion swimmer, so she handles the conditioning side of things and makes sure that the players are always in top shape and form and can properly execute the Fins' high-octane gameplan. Has a naturally calm disposition, and is great at motivating her players; she gives many a pep talk before and after the games. She can be found drinking chamomile tea during the games on the sideline.
