Greetings (Ses Ayuso)! Welcome to the Water Polo International Championships II, hosted in Eldura, Vekaiyu. The nation of Vekaiyu is honored to host this event. With allowances for the necessary travel accommodations as well as potential delays in travel, Vekaiyu will begin these championships on approximately September 8th, 2017.

Info about the Competition / Dates of Importance (This section is OOC):
Previously-signed up nations will be telegrammed after the creation of this thread. At current, there are 21 nations because those dumb fox people had to go and throw their hat into the competition and mess that nice number up. But, no worries: there will be an allowance for 3 additional signups to get us to 24. That means we'll have four groups of six. If we don't get those slots filled, I'll just plug 'em with puppets.

There will be a roster bonus. Consideration will be given to the current rankings, of course. RP bonuses will be strong, because in my philosophy, a good roleplay takes a lot of time and consideration over just a simple submission. RP well, and your nation has a better chance to do well. As always, quality over quantity.

Deadline for submissions will be Friday, September 8th, 2017 at 6PM EST. I figure that will be enough time for folks to get ready, get some rosters going, perhaps even churn (heee) out an RP or so. At that time, group draws will be completed, and roster bonuses will be set. We will then pause a day and allow for some RP's to continue. The first matches will be held on the next day, roughly 18 hours later. RP's from everything up until that point will be lumped in the "Day 1 RP bonus". From there, I will daily announce the cutoff times using the previous cutoff post to announce it.

Also, Vekaiyu will post a plethora of useless information about their dopey country or something like that. Don't need to use it / read it, but it's there if one can't think of something to write. Above all, have fun and enjoy. This looks like it could be fun.

Venues
Multiple venues have been selected. Please consider the following below, as each arena is a bit different and may affect play in terms of strengths and weaknesses.

Istroyavi Aveynyo Eldura (Eldura Aquatic Grounds) - a cutting-edge facility located in the capital of the vulpine nation, Eldura. It's got style. It's got flair. It has a large Vekaiyun flag hanging proudly above the rafters. Built: 2011, Cap.: 24,000.

Yslevori Skendia (Skendia Bowl) - a "cookie cutter" type stadium that was popular before the turn of the century, it still has character and charm with echoes of championship celebrations still ringing in the confines, reflected in its high capacity. Skendia is a blue-collared 'gateway city' that has historically served as a crossroads for weary travelers to and from in the continent of Yasteria. Built: 1999. Cap.: 35,400.

Aveynyo Isluyo Ves (Ves Aquatic (Settlement)) - Ves is one of those honest cities that have seen a dozen or so bloody battles or so over the course of its long history, but today it exists as a peaceful city full of culture and excitement. Because of course it would. Here be where many of the famous people live, like movie stars, the likes. The state of the art stadium reflects these sentiments. Built: 1998. Cap.: 28,250.

Islasi Colaskivo Ivessi (Ivessi Water Coliseum) - The oldest aquatic arena in the major league underwater hockey circuit, Ivessi Water Coliseum is a building bleeding with history. Its games are loud and noisy due to the rather poor acoustics in the building. A plan to replace it was in the works many years ago, but the city decided to grow grass on the roof and consequently label it a 'green' building. The people of Ivessi, who are also innovative and artistic by nature, loved it, so the structure remained. Built: 1965. Cap.: 17,992

About the City
Eldura is the second-largest city and capital of Vekaiyu, located in the center of the nation, surrounded by farmland, slow rivers, and vales of forests. The city is one of the oldest cities in the Vekaiyun nation, and has historically been among the most important. Of all the largest cities in Vekaiyu, Eldura is the one that is decidedly "most Vekaiyun" and they make no bones about it. After all, the city has been the capital for roughly fourteen hundred years, and they'd like to keep it that way, especially when civil war breaks out (as it did in 2010), or when other cities seem to be going too independent (and, thus "un-Vekaiyun"), in which the town's populace and their "mother hen" ideology will demand some sort of "action" to this "crisis". By and large, they're a friendly group of citizens. Just be mindful of their culture, because they more than the Provinskis cling to it with white-knuckled fury.

Residents of Eldura are referred to as "Eldurans". This has no real-world implications; rather, the denigration just happens to roll off the tongue. Speaking of tongues, Eldura is an Unonian city and Eldurans speak Unonian. However, the city is now officially recognized as a bilingual city. In addition, its denizens are by and large followers of Vayan Catholicism and are urged to pray at prescribed intervals throughout the day.

Currency
Vekaiyuns use Veskonos. The bills are made of a special polymer that protect against counterfeiting, and have a melt temperature high enough so that the bills don't get soggy in the wash. Ekvus are the coin currency, where one hundred ekvus equals one veskono. Ekvus have holes in them to allow an individual to store their coins on a rope if they prefer.

The exchange rate is, at current, $1 USD = ℣1.25 VSK. Currency exchanges exist near the border and at important transportation hubs (Yasterian Highway System terminals, Eldura Interational Airport, etc)

The Venues

Vekaiyu is home to hundreds of aquatic arenas. These buildings are designed to accommodate the various aquatic sports in Vekaiyu. Arenas exist for several sporting skill levels, with some even open to the public serving as a natatorium when not in use for competition. Arenas for major-league competition can hold anywhere from ten to forty thousand people. A large game clock and scoreboard is present in every arena and can be seen by players and spectators alike. In the center of each arena is a large, deep swimming pool which is often raised above ground so that spectators may see the action from a "below ground" perspective through a lexan-walled pool, all without worrying about getting wet. Above the arena exists a second level, containing "dugouts" and hot tubs where players, swimmers, or divers sit and relax, penalty boxes, and more seating for those who prefer to watch the game from an "above ground" perspective. It is widely accepted that below ground seating offers much more view to the action for underwater hockey and underwater rugby, which is why these seats are more expensive for such events. Swimming, diving, and water polo are more "above ground" perspective sports and therefore the "below ground" perspective seats are much cheaper. At any given stadium, Vekaiyun food and beverages can be served, as well as various souvenirs supporting the local clubs or the city in general. Ehjy Sulivaye, reporting - Vekaiyu co-hosted the Twelfth Summer Olympiad, and event that has been widely-panned a success by even the most stingy of critics. While our unique take on culture and life in general likely was a bit different than the common foreign fan was accustomed to, be advised, while Provinsk is a bit more open and receptive to change, Eldura, another very large city in Vekaiyu, is a bit more conservative but by no means should that be taken as tempering feelings from reality. After all, this isn't normal progressiveness vs. conservative; on the contrary, the two can be thought of as how one view the state: "progressive" generally means provincial uniqueness over national superiority, and "conservative generally means the opposite. So, be prepared. While Provinskis have this innate desire to share their culture to the world around them, Eldurans are more adept at living their culture and, by living it, display it as such.

Water Polo in Vekaiyu

First Impressions
Eldura, and Vekaiyu as a whole, have grown differently as a culture when compared to the world around it and, as a consequence, will likely be a different experience altogether for the casual fan. But don't let that intimidate you - we are a friendly nation, despite what our past may indicate. Gone are the days of the Dictator Max Venavle and his rumors of drinking human blood (he did not - autopsies taken from his headless body indicated this as much). Likewise, the days of Selvala McEva and her crass comments have been discarded - you can thank a civil war and Premier Ikrisia Levinile for that. Many individuals died so that Vekaiyu could be free from the iron grip of the failed policies of the past, and the Premier and her government have made great strides in ensuring Vekaiyu remains a forward-thinking nation prepared for the 21st century, not just in technology and economic impact, but in acceptance and understanding toward the world around them.

"Eldurans" as those from Eldura like to be called, live in the capital of the nation. While they are friendly by nature if not too quirky, they are much more nationalistic and tend to be a bit... what's the word... stubborn. They are, by contrast to the Provinskis, more defensive of their history, their ways, their culture, and their opinions. After all, as they are closest to the Vekaiyun government, there becomes a sense of "having an open ear to the government around them" so to speak. Historically, Eldura has enjoyed being among the most important cities in Vekaiyu for quite some time. Now that Vekaiyu has ascended in power, it has seemed to only inflate their assurance that their way is the correct way.

But those are only generalities.

Many Eldurans do speak Codexian (read:common language), and are more than happy to show you around, point you to the best places where kikale is served (ask for "human spice level", as the vulpine pallet affords more of a complex, often "overspiced" taste), and even enjoy a drink or two with you. Just don't sit in their fan sections. They can get a bit rowdy.

Unonian: The Language of Vekaiyu
Provinskis can speak Codexian (common language, the language this edition happens to be written in), but we prefer to speak our native tongue and we absolutely love it when foreigners take an interest in our language, our culture, and our identity. I've compiled some common sayings you might try when visiting and enjoying our entertaining city:

Iyey strovineru Vekaiyustri nebistravi kes! - That Vekaiyun swimmer sure is fast!
Yesosu yusi bestrovi? - How is your day? (a common greeting)
Ses le Lesivey! - I wish you the best! (a common 'goodbye' saying)
Kasu tremstraviriyey nelevu? - Where are the restrooms ('nelevu' adds 'urgently' as opposed to 'lesivu' which is casual or 'belesirisu' which implies you are asking for a friend, or 'ses telesirisu' which is for a family member. Add a 'teri' suffix if you wish to be directed by hand motion and not spoken to).
Lesu! Levinile Ikarunoyia ses iskri nastrovoyey! - Goodness! Premier Levinile can speak with articulation!
Istrovi, reku na ve la tentateri bulsokaveri? - Pardon, but where did you get the beets to dye your hair?

All are common phrases. I swear. By the way, if you want to be believed beyond a shadow of a doubt, you say, Aro eri eyotri Sankia Aiya yes kustrobisi hakromu, which means 'By the hands of St. Aiya and the wood of the cross'. Be advised, this is not to be taken lightly.

Your First Day
Upon arriving in Eldura, you'll want to complete the following tasks. First, ensure your visas are in correct standing with the Vekaiyun government. You will likely need to do this through a customs officer or a Vekaiyun Foreign Officer. They're easily recognizable via their gray uniforms, and are female - one of the few artifacts from previous regimes as it is generally believed (but not officially acknowledged) that a vulpine female presence is generally less intimidating and therefore more able to quickly handle the intricate language and cultural barriers. They will guide you through the process of stepping onto Vekaiyun soil, and are there to help you enjoy our city with as little difficulties as possible. The Vekaiyun government has granted temporary (30-day visas) for all traveling fans, but be advised that it is not as simple as getting a stamp and moving forward. A foreign visitor is still subject to the restricted items list, and any suspicious characters may be held for a short period of time in order to fully clear them, but such procedures are generally rare.

Once your visa is clear, you will be advised to exchange currency. Vekaiyuns use the Veskono (℣, VSK). It is a fairly rudimentary currency. You can store coins on a thick rope, as all coins have a hole punched through them. Bills are made of a plastic material which make it difficult to counterfeit.

Be sure to pick up a common Unonian-to-Codexian phrasebook. It is ridiculously inexpensive at ℣0.79 and worth every ekvu. There you will find some common phrases, an introduction to our alphabet, and how to read some basic street signs and points of interest. Provinsk has made the transition to a bilingual city and should be fairly easy to navigate. But knowing just a little Unonian will go a long way, and may help you find some hidden treasures Eldura has to offer.

Eldura and connecting cities boast a reliant public transportation system which includes subway systems, buses, railways, and taxi cabs. Rental cars are available on request provided the individual can pass a rudimentary driving test (the lines for this may get a little long, so best to just rely on the efficiency of Elduran transportation on this one). The Yasterian Highway System, which aided fans during the Summer Olympiad, connects select Vekaiyun cities together. A special rail system added to the highway will allow for quick and safe travel between the two host cities.

Elduran Weather: Expect Cloudy Days
Eldura is located almost in the exact middle of the Vekaiyun nation. However, it is still subject to moisture accumulated over the Ta'lavero Mountains to the west and the Gulf of Itur to the north. Growing seasons in Eldura can go until mid-October, but a cooler year will likely usher in the overcast conditions of Autumn a bit early this year. Don't worry, though, Eldura in the Spring is much more wet than Eldura in the fall, but an afternoon or morning storm may still occur. Despite this, skywalks to and from aquatic arenas and nearby hotels will help all fans stay dry.

Vayan Catholicism and You
To be Vekaiyun is to be a practicing Vayan Catholic. Vayan Catholicism has been readily identified with Vekaiyun culture and surrounding nations for well over sixteen hundred years, planted three hundred years prior by the seeds of St. Aiya. Vekaiyu and Vayan Catholicism owes their existence in part to the works of St. Aiya. Her name and the several books tacked onto the Vayan Bible regarding her times and prayers have made a lasting impression on the Vekaiyun people. But unlike most saints exclusive to the Vayan Catholic faith, her body remains on display under the towering barrel vaulted ceiling of the appropriately-named Cathedral of St. Aiya, located in Eldura. The wrappings sustained from preservation rituals are mostly hidden by body an ornate dress, facsimile hair, even fine leather shoes to reflect what the saint may have looked like prior to her death, along with a new platinum mask, constructed by master craftsmen (with inlaid eyes constructed of obsidian, emerald, and moonstone) several hundred years ago.

Vayan Catholic Cardinals have requested added security with the increase of foreign presence as a precaution. Do not worry, her body will still be available for viewing.

Vayan Catholics, especially those living in larger cities, are summoned to pray several times throughout the day. If this happens - and it certainly does in Provinsk - do not fret. While our religion is sacred to us, the general mantra throughout the centuries has been a more relaxed approach when it comes to dealing with other faiths. All we ask is respect, and generally speaking (based on that of an average Vayan Catholic, of course) it will be returned. Individuals are allowed to attend mass and may participate in the chants if they know them. Several cathedrals offer Codexian-spoken masses, but for the true experience, try to attend a noonday mass orchestrated entirely in Unonian, complete with the chanting of monks and nuns (in the case of larger cathedrals), and various prayers. One other point of advice: if you are not Vayan Catholic, we do ask that you refrain from partaking in the Eucharist. Finally, please dress accordingly. Many Vayan Catholic churches ask entrants to dress appropriately when able to, as there are exceptions when it comes to the poor.

In Closing
Provinsk is one of those cities where one can easily get lost in, either via checking out the various sights and activities, or by losing one's self in the unique culture the city has to offer. If you trust the people there, and if you give them a chance to reveal their culture, you will certainly obtain a most unique experience for this Twelfth Summer Olympiad.

I, Ikrisia Levinile, welcome you to the Vekaiyu Holy Republic, a nation of rich history, unique culture, and exciting opportunities. I do hope that you find our nation comforting, pleasant and, while Codexian (what we refer to in our realm as "common") language is not my first language, I hope you accept my letter of congratulations in fielding a team and competing in an international competition on our soil. We, the Vekaiyun people, hope this competition will underscore the competitive international spirit and goodwill carried over from the First Water Polo International Championships. We are honored to give back to the community with respect to hosting the Second Water Polo International Championships.

In order to ensure this competition remains fluid and without interruption, we have selected four prominent Vekaiyun cities with unique Aquatic Arenas. While Unonian is our native language and it is quite different from Codexian, these four cities are bilingual enough where the common Codexian speaker will be able to find their way around without much trouble, perhaps with the exception of Skendia, which remains fully integrated in our official language. These arenas are designed with Vekaiyu's most popular sport in mind - Underwater Hockey. To this end, arenas have seating located above water and below water, arranged in such fashion where spectators may view action at the surface or below the water facilitated by plexiglass walls. Speaking as a fan of both, I encourage spectators to try out both experiences. Seucurity will be present at these venues in order to ensure the safety of participants and spectators. It is unfortunate, but past events from previous international competitions have provided me enough justification. One cannot be too sure.

To the right is a map I have provided for you. It is an overly-simplified map, and more detailed maps will be at your disposal, but this map in particular shows the general locations of the four cities we have carefully selected for these qualifiers. Travel between cities is simple and facilitated by the Yasterian Highway System.

Eldura is the capital city of Vekaiyu and its second-largest city. It is a beautiful capital, really. The arena selected for international competition is Istroyavi Aveynyo Eldura (Eldura Aquatic Grounds), was built in 2011, and is capable of seating 24,000. A special note about seating. While we vulpine individuals are generally smaller and more limber than other species, you will find seating at these arenas to be most adequate . Ivessi, a gateway city to southern Vekaiyu, is home to the Islasi Colaskivo Ivessi (Ivessi Water Coliseum). This arena was built in 1965 and is among the oldest Aquatic Arenas in Vekaiyu, but with added age comes added charm. I recommend one tries the kekale here. While it's probably not a normal sport food, the bowl of noodles and spices are a Vekaiyun staple. Ves is among our most important ports. The arena, Aveynyo Isluyo Ves (Ves Aquatic (Settlement)) was built in 1998 and is known for its unique ambiance, with the main window facing the afterglow of the setting Vekaiyun sun. 28,250 fans may watch a game within its confines. Finally, we have the city of Skendia, the creole city that has strong influences from Eastern Vekaiyun (Listonian) culture. The arena selected is among the largest in Vekaiyu: Yslevori Skendia (Skendia Bowl), built it 1999, and with a 35,400 seating capacity. Be advised: Skendia is a city that remains generally Unonian in language. All arenas feature common Vekaiyun food, bilingual directions, and souvenirs, among other amenities.

Presentment of the Darkmanian water polo team.

Darkmania shocked nobody by qualifying after winning a local qualifier with only 4 nation entered, the second place going to Hiklarmangia who also qualified. This is the first time the republic enters the world championship, so expirations that Darkmania does well is somewhere in the middle.
Darkmania is still new to sporting, so its expected that the team ~~gets brutally rekt.~~

Mermen return to dominate the water

The West Phoenician Mermen return for the Water Polo International Championships II to defend their first place title after the Water Polo International Championships I.

"The Mermen are fighting fit and ready to defend the title" Head coach Paul Heavenwood said during an interview for WP Sports.

"Our line up remains the same, we have a small tight knit group that has set their sights on keeping the Water Polo International Championship in West Phoenicia."

The latest international event the Mermen played was at the Olympics Games XII in Kelssek and Vekaiyu where they reached the quarter finals only to be knocked out by Kelseek and losing to Vekaiyu in the bronze medal match 6-8.
The Mermen fear a similar repeat with the Water Polo International Championships being held in Vekaiyu, he home advantage may push Vekaiyu over the edge for the win. But West Phoenicia is quietly confident that it can retain its title.

Other nations that West Phoenicia is eyeing as potential threats are Kelssek, Kebec, Britonisea and Free Republics

The Mermen will not give up without a fight and goal keepers Josiah Gryphon and Symon Brisbane have vowed to let as little goals pass their grasp as possible to secure West Phoenician victory. While Team captain Scott Mare has promised a more aggressive style and tactics that training has provided to keep all opponents on their toes.

A rabid fan of water polo as a boy, Arthur had to content himself with watching as other countries played, as Aggrey-Fynn Land had no professional setup for the sport. Since he has never had any professional experience with water polo (like most Landers), his coaching skills are not the best, but he makes up for it with his love for the game and his ability to connect with the players.

With the help of his assistant, Beverly Lambert, he has created a team based on explosive speed and unrelenting stamina. Speed is the key to their offense, with quick movement, passes, and shots utilized in the hopes of catching the opponent off-guard and getting goals. Their defensive play prizes strategy over aggressiveness, and aims to cause turnovers using high pressure and create counter-attacking opportunities. His preferred formation can be found below.

Not a polo player as a child, but a champion swimmer, so she handles the conditioning side of things and makes sure that the players are in top shape and form and can properly execute the Fins' high-octane gameplan. Has a naturally calm disposition, and is great at motivating her players; she gives many a pep talk before and after the games. She can be found drinking chamomile tea during the games on the sideline.

TIME TO GET WET

ELDURA Ah, its good to be back for old times' sake - the smell of chlorine once again washes the arena with its seed as we prepare for another few days of noisy competition as the second Water Polo International Cup convenes momentarily, its a moment we've been waiting for for a long time, Kebec's back and we're thirsty for revenge, the West Phoenicians are still basking in their glory of four f*cking years ago and they think they're the top dogs, but its time for Kebec to mount that comeback. I feel pained even remembering the first go-round of the WPIC - I should know, I was the goal-keeper of the national side and probably the reason we lost that year, that championship should've belonged to us, but I messed up, however, its best not to dwell on the past but unite upon the future, and I think we have even more reasons to be excited, I mean, we're stocked with talent, almost half of this championships' roster is from out Cinderella-run four years ago, of course we're down some pieces, but, we're ferocious and we're hungry for more.

This team is truly loaded with talent, the ever-affable goal-scoring machine of Lambert Ménard is in the prime of his career, I mean he's twenty-eight years old and he's here to ball, have you seen the power of his throw, the entire arena will shake when he scores his first goal. I recommend that your team devotes heavy hoarding to Ménard, because, he's truly an offense weapon that you'd rather not mess with, he has obvious skill, his gait is small, but he has very good power. Never mind acceleration, he can propel himself quite well, he'll be sure to utilize drafting to speed himself up, hope to the Gods' that you don't get caught in his crosshairs, because he'll mow you down quicker than a lawn-mower cuts a blade of grass. I like Lambert, he's a good kid, he was 23 when I last played with him, he has good technique, he learned rather quickly and I'm sure he's a key asset to the teams plans for victory - v-formation, yippy!

But my, oh my, let me give a quick holler at Cruella De Vil - she's the new substitute replacing Pascal Whathelet (who's now 46 years old), De Vil has obvious talents, she's 25, well-trained and has the speed to stop anyone, however, my area of concern his her mechanics, they're sloppy and easily exploited, however, she's being tutored by Coach Raymond Chapelle, arguably, the best water-polo coach in the multiverse, a world-renowned expert when it comes to water polo. I just hope she's not a weak-link in our march back to the finals, we all know its' very hard to repeat when it comes to reaching the finals, however its worth noticing, with only 6 ranked teams participating in the competition, there's hope for the Kebecois side. But, I will say, anything less than a semifinals exit will be extremely disappointing for the Kebecois side and will most likely send the Association for Kebecois Water Polo after Coach Chapelle's head, so, it would be best for all of our blood pressure that the national team does well.

Then there's my successor at goalkeeper, I must say, I was really excited when I heard that my protégé, Clélia Camille got promoted to starter after my retirement, after all, she'd been patiently waiting for me to retire two years after the WPIC ended, so, I'm quite pleased to get a chance to see her finally shine in her own light, I have absolutely no worries about her - she's a class-act, that right there is a person you want defending your net when your down my a goal or need to stop a penalty - She has the skill that will be needed to stop other top-tier national teams in the competition, an octofinal clash with West Phoenicia would be great so we could settle the score once and for all, wouldn't it.

And, I a sour note, I have a few more cents to add - As these people are a national team, they should be paid to offer their services to compete to represent their nations and walk around with 'K-E-B-E-C' stitched to their head, it is time that we step up and demand what is rightfully ours, a national water polo league and a pay-scale needs to be established. Other sports have flourished under this, hockey in Kebec wouldn't be where its at without the establishment of the IHNL - now KHL-1, its time that we move forward in our attempts to modernize our sport and bring it back too us. The sport revolves around us - the players, yet we will see yet again big-money tv companies reaping large rewards for broadcasting the games even though none of us have anything to call our own. As I sign off, I beg the Gods' for a sign to bring change.

Kiveli Strusassa peers into the camera, adjusting his thick-rimmed frames as the adjacent hand rests confidently on the news table in front of him and his cohort. "Good evening, Codexian-speakers! We present to you a most unique water polo experience! Down is up, up is down, and side-to-side is sideways! It was a day of action, it was a day of talent. Perhaps it was a day of not being quite rested up from the jet lag?"

"Nnn," his cohort, Riyna Trusikayey, chimed in. "A tough day all around for familiar faces in the hunt for greatness. Familiar nations which excel in water polo competition, such as Greater Vakolicci Haven and Kelssek, seemed to fade just a bit in international competition, and simply didn't take care of business in Day 1. Even Vekaiyu, the home team, barely won against the unranked Hiklarmangia."

"Yes, well, you can't win them all, it seems," Kiveli added. "Good evening, fans. Regardless of the defeats of Day 1, I believe all can come to a consensus that Vekaiyu was not only willing, but ready to host these international games."

"You can say that again," Riyna added. "But we're not here to talk about the readiness of the Vekaiyun nation. On the contrary, we need to discuss the game with Kelssek and Savojarna. Savojarna is a relative newcomer in these games, and is a big wild card when it comes to acumen in the pool. Despite this, they managed an impressive victory against a perennial champion."

"Perennial indeed, despite the slow start they are still the favorites of this competition. It would be facetious to count them out. But did anyone see the Lapik-Commerce match in Eldura? Really fun match for what should be the so-called "group of death". Everyone knows Lapik is the team to beat in that division, even though Kebec looms in the distance. They just simply have a strong Water Polo program, and that cannot be denied."

"That's all very well, Riyna, but whoa! Did you see the defender from Aclion? Saint Ayia be praised! Jean-Luc Marchal leaps over the GVH defender and then flips back into the water, nearly striking the ledge with his head!" The replay program proceeds to rewind and fast-forward the event with various ham-fisted sounds ranging from a spring to a splat noise. "My goodness! What a play there!"

"Yes but too bad it didn't result in a goal, something Aclion sorely needed in the competition as they were downed by a score of 7 to 11!"

"Understandable, Kiveli. Stay close to the Codexian-speaking coverage of these International Water Polo events!"a

Ok. Today wasn't it a great start on the championship. Losing 6–7 to Coldfield (COL), and putting us in third place in Group D. So what went wrong for our ~~half naked wet boys playing in the water~~?

We scored the first 3 goals in the match and by the start of the second half, we lead 4-3. That first half in Ivessi was just pure goal after goal. COL even scored two goals in less than one minute. That's how crazy it was. COL scored the last goal with less than 5 seconds before the match was over, and this was enough to give us a loss. Ah well, shit happens.

So fingers crossed that we may get our shit together and beat our next foe, [*Insert nation-name here*]

A rest day on Medal Day 1 of the Water Polo International Championships II allowed the Mermen the best opportunity to weigh up there competition with squad members attending both matches to see how there opponents faired against each other.

The nation of Britonisea had a shock loss against the nation of Carpaya in a 11-10 win. Both are unranked in the water polo International Championships but West Phoenician sporting punters would have bet on Britonisea for the win. Carpaya a nation not familiar to West Phoenicia will now come under the West Phoenician radar after Coach Paul Heavenwood sized up their tactics.

Over in the other venue Kecrazia defeated Romaian in another equally tight match. Making West Phoenicia wonder are they both equally good or equally bad. With Kecrazia having a current rank of 14, they are not seen as much as a threat compared to those nations who signed up for this tournament unranked whoses styles are unknown and unpredictable to West Phoenicia but Kiritih Akcijis of Kecrazia did seem to be one of the players on the team that needed to be watched when The Mermen come up against them.

Mermen make splash in first game of the Water Polo International Championships II.

The West Phoenician Mermen made a splash in their first game against Kecrazia at Aveynyo Isluyo Ves with a 7-6 victory. Thanks to the attacking effort of Scott Mare who led the charge early on in the first quarter and keeping his team on high alert for the whole game.
It was point for point for most of the game, until early in the last quarter when Scott Mare scored the goal that would have them in a one point lead. For the rest of the game it was pure melodrama as the Mermen played keep the ball away from Kecrazia. A tactic they used in Water Polo International Championships I to avoid the other team obtaining the ball and scoring.

Also playing their first game was the Mermen's arch rivals the team from Kebec who had a tight match against the nation of Lapik who played brilliantly but could not come back after Kebec lead in the final quarter by one point.

The West Phoenician team are praying Kebec makes it through to the quarter finals and the semi finals so the Mermen will have another crack at the team and send them packing back to Kebec without the Water Polo International Championships II trophy.

THE FINS SPLIT THEIR FIRST TWO GAMES

Aggrey-Fynn Land went into their first game against New Flans Bijk. They got off to an early start, when Alex Carter lobbed the ball across the pool midway through the first quarter to a waiting Kofi Essien, who slid the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 3-1. Aggrey-Fynn Land controlled most of the first half, going into the half at 5-3. New Flans Bijk quickly got on the front foot, smothering Aggrey-Fynn Land's offensive attack and tying up the game at 5 by the end of the quarter. It took some heroic goalkeeping from Carter in the fourth to allow Aggrey-Fynn Land to pull ahead, scoring five unanswered goals to turn a close game into a blowout, 10-5.

In the second game, Aggrey-Fynn Land was hoping for more of the same. They brought the same high flying offensive tactics they had in the first game; however, Commerce was able to match it. It was a shootout, with the teams scoring back and forth. The goalkeeping was pretty strong on both sides, and most of the goals were grabbed on the counter. It was the fourth quarter that made the difference. Going into the quarter 7-7, Commerce got an early trio of goals to put themselves at 10-7. On the other hand, Aggrey-Fynn Land was slowed down by fatal miscues that could have helped to bridge the gap. The Fins nearly sent it to overtime, but Commerce held them off, with the final score being 11-9.
