WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 26
"Swinging for the Fences in our Return!"

For some, the World Baseball Classic journey begins here as your national baseball team takes on international opposition at the highest level, for the first time.

For others, World Baseball Classic 26 is just the latest chapter in their storied baseball career.

For Cassadaigua, it’s a return to international baseball after once being among the greatest in the world.

Sixty of us converge, our pasts all very different, but with the meeting point the same, and the dream of being a champion motivating us all. Some will seem to have a better chance then others, but for everyone, the thought of their nation attaining glory seems within reach.

The nations that are participating are listed under the spoiler tag, with the nation’s ranking listed to its left. It also includes the pot breakdown for the group draw.

Group format will be 10 groups of six. Top two teams in each group will advance, along with the next best four teams. Group winners, regardless of actual record, will be seeded 1-10, and second place teams, regardless of actual record, will be seeded 11-20. (In other words, if the worst group winner was 6-4, and the best second place team was 7-3, the group winner still gets the 10 seed and the second place the 11 seed). I believe this provides better RP opportunities (by keeping more nations alive and with a chance longer) then having gone with 12 groups of five, and just taking the top two teams.

Groups have been drawn

MD1 will be SUNDAY, MAY 19. Rosters & RP’s may begin at any time.
More detailed schedule has been placed in the second post.

For any other format related inquiries, feel free to consult My hosting bid. If you still have a question, feel free to ask in the Discussion Thread

Also, we do have an Official Umpire Listing that could use some more umpires from active nations. In no way do you have to follow this listing, but it can’t hurt to mention it.

WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 26
TRAVEL GUIDE

Are you coming to Cassadaigua to enjoy the World Baseball Classic? Great! Here’s what you will need to know.

1) Where is Cassadaigua? How do I get there?

Cassadaigua is located in the region of Rushmore, and more specifically south-central Rushmore. It is bordered by Sicoutimont to the east, and by Fidishwa to the west. To its south is a body of water. To the north, is unclaimed land. Bordering us to the north, after all, might be intimidating to another nation of men.

The best recommendation to get here is to fly in, unless you are from Sicoutimont or maybe Darmen, you may just want to drive or take a train. All Cassadagan cities have a major airport, and the nation has an advanced rail system as well. If you insisted on traveling by sea, there are some easily attainable port cities, but we suggest flying in.

2) Will I be safe? What is crime like?

Cassadaigua is no more or no less safe then any other nation. Some consider our crime rates to be a little high, but law enforcement and a general security presence will be very apparent and will protect you. There have been some protests in the nation lately, and some have led to violence, especially in the Grande Mountain area, but we will do what we can to ensure your safety.

3) Tell me more about your female-dominated society. Are male tourists safe?

Cassadaigua’s society is different then what is seen throughout most of the world. In our nation, the female is the dominant gender and is superior to the male. This should not be surprising if you have followed our own national sport teams in even the slightest of ways. There are some groups who feel that men are greatly oppressed in our nation, but that is not really the case. If you are a man, and you are visiting Cassadaigua, as long as you are aware of our somewhat different culture, you should not have a tough time fitting in. After all, Cassadagan men that play by the rules here and respect their role can be very successful themselves. As long as you respect our culture, you should be fine while you are here. If you act disrespectful, then don’t be surprised if you are soon put in your place. You are expected to follow all Cassadagan laws, even if it is not a law in your own country,

4) I’ve been to nations that have talking ponies, or banned cars, or taxes on every little thing. Should I expect anything like this?

Cassadagans love horses, but there are no talking ponies here. At least not that we know of. If we have any sentient immigrants from nations like Equestrian States, they keep a very low profile. Cars are very much a way of life, and our taxes aren’t anything out of the ordinary, and if anything are a little lower then average. Cassadaigua is modern, economic powerhouse. There are no unusual factors associated with the country, other then the gender differences.

Socially, Cassadaigua is open to members of all faiths, and we expect your right to worship your respective deity in the way you see fit; or to not worship one at all. Homosexuality is accepted in the country, though we can’t promise that some random drunk in the stands or on the streets won’t make offensive comments.

As far as drinking is concerned, the legal age is 18, though many get away with underage drinking as it is not as aggressively policed as it may be in other lands. However, do not drink and drive. If you are caught, you will have a greater jail sentence then you might be expecting, and if you kill anyone by drunk driving, you will receive the death penalty.

Smoking anywhere in public is banned, but legal in your own home. This applies to both cigarettes and marijuana. All other recreational drugs are banned.

5) Where will the games be? Tell me about the cities, please.

Games will be held in Concord Heights, Brattleboro, Grande Mountain, Rutland, Winchester, New Lakeland, Victoriaville, and Starksville.

Concord Heights- This is the nation capital, and the city has hosted many international championships before, including the World Baseball Classic 18 title series. You’ll find the city in northeast Cassadaigua, and there are plenty of things to do while here. We won’t get into all of them, because if its on your mind, simply put, its in Concord Heights. Within the city, you will find the most traditional Cassadagan citizens; the ones least likely to be listening to MEN (Male Equality Now) or any other of men’s rights messages. The University of Concord Heights is the nation’s most accredited higher learning institution, but if you want to leave Cassadaigua looking better to impress people at home, check out Concord Heights Beauty School for all kind of tips on looking your best, and museums dedicated specifically to the ultimate in vanity.

Stadium Dimensions (in feet from home plate): LF- 355 LCF- 375 CF- 405 RCF- 375 RF- 355
Capacity: 72,000

Brattleboro- The most rapidly growing city in Cassadaigua recently topped Grande Mountain in terms of population. Brattleboro sits immediately alongside the border between us and Sicoutimont. The technological age is what has caused the rise of this city, thanks in large part to the prestigious Brattleboro Technical Institute. Graduates remained committed to the area, and are since having families of their own. Overall, there is a younger demographic here, age wise, and that coupled with the name of the city has led to others to call its residents “Brats”.

Stadium Dimensions: LF- 346 LCF- 352 CF- 369 RCF- 360 RF- 352 (walls are 12-feet high in all but CF. There, it is 16 feet)
Capacity: 70,000

Grande Mountain- Another large city, there has been some controversy in Grande Mountain lately. Most of that pertains to the local university, and you should be safe as long as you mind your own business. It is expected that there will be protests, but since its not really a baseball issue, maybe it won’t be bad. Lets cross our fingers. Purchasing added insurance on your rental car is highly recommended.

Stadium Dimensions: LF- 350 LCF- 390 CF- 412 RCF- 382 RF- 354
Capacity: 65,000

Rutland- A port city in southeastern Cassadaigua, Rutland sometimes gets lost in the shuffle with the other cities in tournaments like this. It could use a bit of a makeover, but local officials have concentrated efforts on the port itself, and as such the rest of the city could appear ignored. It is true that many are migrating out of Rutland because of this, and it’s possible that it might not appear as a host city much longer.

Stadium Dimensions: LF- 330 LCF- 372 CF- 404 RCF- 379 RF- 346
Capacity: 54,000

Winchester- The anti-Brattleboro in that while Brattleboro is a younger city, demographically, Winchester is a place that a lot of retired people have migrated too, to get away from big city life. In the process, they created a big city themselves, but you’ll notice that this city doesn’t have same kind of pizzazz as others. You’ll find more bingo halls then bars in the city, and residents only agree to allow the city to be used for international events because of the money you’ll bring in to the city. So that they can gamble it away playing bingo.

Stadium Dimensions: LF- 339 LCF- 368 CF- 400 RCF- 363 RF- 333
Capacity: 58,000

New Lakeland- If you want to enjoy Cassadaigua and go to a city with the most gender equality, then New Lakeland is the spot for you. The reason is, that this used to be a city in Secristan before Cassadaigua took it over, therefore its origins aren’t the same. As time has gone by, Cassadagan lifestyle has begun to take it over, but there many relics of its history still prevalent on the streets. It’s the most capitalist city in the country, but given that origin, that shouldn’t be a surprise.

Stadium Dimensions: LF- 370 LCF- 402 CF- 420 RCF- 390 RF- 345
Capacity: 88,000

Starksville- Like Brattleboro, this is a growing city, and it’s also beginning to replace Rutland as being the nations top port city, given that it’s closer to Concord Heights then Rutland may be. It’s a great spot for beaches and nightlife, though doesn’t have a lot of history to go with it.

Stadium Dimensions: LF- 347 LCF- 370 CF- 411 RCF- 373 RF- 356
Capacity: 60,000

Victoriavile- As the most populous city in Southwestern Cassadaigua, Victoriaville again returns as a host city to give Dagans living in this area some close games to travel too. There’s nothing really wrong with the city, it’s just not as big as the others.

Stadium Dimensions: LF- 326 LCF- 361 CF- 399 RCF- 370 RF- 322
Capacity: 55,000

Now the players have been together for five WBC's (actually the only five WBC's since Ko-oren started getting into this sport), they have aged considerably. Any WBC now they will start to drop from the team... Is what we expected last time. And this time again. The only thing that keeps changing is the maximum attendance of the Sraltlur State Baseball Arena.

OF: #19 Petrus Fannius (S/L)

Notes

Marcus Tragus is an exceptional defensive 2B. He is developing into a better hitter. Matthaeus and Ioannes Bebius are brothers, as are Petrus and Marcus Tragus. Sittius is a defensive liability. He used to be a great defensive player and a very fast player, but he's gained weight. He is still an exceptional contact hitter, but he is a very slow baserunner these days and often fails to beat out throws he used to beat consistently. Ennius is a good defensive catcher who is just decent offensively. Vagnius is a great hitter and above-average defensively. Matthaeus Bebius was in the midst of a breakout season when he suffered a season-ending injury on June 26th, 2012. He returned at the last WBC and is off to a hot start this year. Bebius and Iulus are 5-tool players. Iulus is finally putting it all together this season. Petrus Tragus is a very fast player who stole 128 bases in 2012. Sentius is a good hitter, but he is primarily known for his leadership and his highlight-reel defense. Maccius is known as the top power hitter in Saintland, but he doesn't make much contact. Maianius is above-average at hitting for contact, power and defensively. He is known as "Iron" Lucas Maianius because he hasn't missed a game in over 10 seasons, a streak that will be broken because this WBC will be held in the middle of Saintland's baseball season. Cnisius is normally a second baseman and Neratius is normally a third baseman. Cnisius is a decent all-around player offensively, but he is below-average defensively. Neratius is an average hitter with exceptional speed and good defense. Juventius is a poor man's Petrus Tragus, albeit without Tragus's patience at the plate. Rufus returned from an injury in midseason of last year. Most Sanctii players have good plate patience. Sittius and Juventius are the exceptions to that rule, as they tend to swing at pitches early in the count. The Saintland will use a 3-man rotation this time around. Although the 4-man rotation is the norm in Saintland, Petrus Tragus wants Ioannes Bebius to be able to make a 4th start in the group stage, if Saintland has not clinched a spot in the playoffs. In Saintland, the closer gets many 6-out save opportunities. In 2012, Bebius won 40 games, struck out 413 batters in 375 innings and had an ERA below 2, winning the King Paulus XIV Award, named for the great-great-great-grandfather of King Paulus XV and greatest pitcher in the history of Saintland baseball. Famulus is just as powerful a pitcher, but has control problems. Fundanus averages just below a strikeout an inning. Nonius and Oppis have similar power to the starters. Laelius, Rufus and Ulpius are finesse pitchers. Arius is a knuckleball pitcher. Saintland will use its bench aggressively because most of the bench players are of comparable ability to the starters and have different skill sets. Sanctii baseball players are taught not to argue with umpire and doing so is unthinkable. Surprisingly, King Paulus XV installed SaintTurf at Royal Park, but Royal Stadium uses a grass surface. As those familiar with Saintland's World Bowl team know, the surface at Royal Stadium is currently being re-seeded due to Royal Army drills that "inadvertently" turned much of Royal Stadium into a swamp, but the King still has no plans to install turf at that stadium or to install grass at the baseball stadium. The fences at Royal Park have been moved in to increase capacity and for strategic reasons.

The Pony Republic of Equestrian States
National Baseball Team - World Baseball Classic 26

Team Background
They're back and better than ever. For the first time in Equestrian history, one of the national teams will be participating as not a third, not a second, but a top seed in group play. It's odd really, being the favorite. For once, fan expectations can be high and the team can relax knowing they will not face the top few teams in the world. But it was not always this way.

The Phoenixes (as the national baseball team has come to be known by its fans) entered their first tournament in WBC 22 as an unranked and unknown team, and exited only slightly better-off than before. It was to be in WBC 23 where the Equestrians would first make a splash on the international scene. A sweep of their group's second seed and a stunning upset of reigning champions and top-ranked Western Cuba (a nation which can't seem to ever beat any Equestrian team in any sport) saw the Phoenixes blast their way through to the Round of 16 in the playoffs where they were knocked out by eventual tournament champs, Milchama. The next World Baseball Classic was one of disappointment for the Equestrian States, who collapsed late in group play to barely miss a spot in the playoffs.

That brings us to the 25th World Baseball Classic. Despite the moderate success of the Phoenixes in WBC 23, the team was relatively unknown to the general Equestrian public. Thus, it came as a considerable surprise when the WBC Council awarded the tournament's landmark edition to the Equestrian States over much more established Lycrabon. Nevertheless, the Phoenixes began their group stage looking to earn themselves a spot in their own tournament. An 8-2 record later, and the Equestrian States were to act not only as hosts, but the top seed of the playoffs. Following a sweep of Ko-oren, the Phoenixes were forced to stage a comeback to knock out Free South Califas after dropping the first game of their quarterfinal series. Although the Equestrian States would be swept out of the semifinals by Zwangzug, the Phoenixes did far better than anypony ever would have predicted before the tournament.

Baseball has exploded in the Equestrian States, especially at the youth level and among the scattered communities of non-equines. But despite the surging interest most of the fans' attention has been directed to foreign leagues, given the NESC's refusal to sponsor the Equestrian Series champions' participation in the sport's equivalent of the Champions Cup. Regardless, ponies and non-ponies of all ages are thrilled to see the return of the Phoenixes to the international stage. Although the tournament might not be in the Equestrian States this time, sports bars and stadiums are expected to be at full capacity throughout the group stage as the Phoenixes fight to make their return to the semifinals and beyond.

Other Notes: For information on the Equestrian States, please refer to the WBC 25 Visitors’ Guide first, then TG me if you have any further questions. Additionally, if you wish to do something that is either not listed as allowed in my RP permissions or really out of the ordinary, I require that you ask me (via TG) at least two hours prior to RP cutoff so my own post can account for the unusual event. Failure to send a TG in time will likely result in your request being turned down as I will probably have already begun work on my own RP.

Les Royales at World Baseball Classic 26, in Cassadaigua

It's been a while since we said that, eh? Sicoutimont return to the WBC as the 11th ranked club in the world, and hope to get farther than 2 years ago, when the boys fell to Maklohi Vai in a 3 game series. So, who will wear the purple and blue for Les Royales? Find out below!

Batting Order
1-Pedro Santana-SS-Age 25-St-Simeon Mets
2-Xavi Esquinardes-3B-Age 22-Pontiac Chiefs
3-Boullion Carvier-1B-Age 27-Ile Perrot Epee
4-Victor Santana-RF-Age 23-St-Simeon Mets
5-Loic St-Ignace-CF-Age 20-Baie-Eternite Cardinals
6-Jose Colognon-C-Age 26-St-Simeon Mets
7-Martin Vauton-2B-Age 31-Ile Perrot Epee
8-Jaeg Nordstrom-LF-Age 26-Ile Perrot Epee
9-Pitcher/Alfonso Soriano-DH-Age 23-St-Simeon Mets

Les Royales use the DH rule. If not used at a different stadium, the starting pitcher will bat at all times.

Pitching Rotation

The team is led by its youth. The average age of the batters is 24.7, the pitchers 24.4. This is a team dominated by its youth, and one that perhaps needs more experience before it can go deep in this tournament.

The team's home stadium is Field PowerEternite, in St-Simeon, Sicoutimont. It is home of the St-Simeon Mets, and is 20 minutes from that cities downtown core. The groups have been drawn, so here's Les Royales schedule!

Group 5
Sicoutimont (11)
Estope (26)
Saugeais (10)
New Bierstaat (UR)
Free Swiss States (76)
Backyard Sports (58)

Tough draw. 2 borderline top 10 in the world teams, a top 30 teams, and only 1 unranked team. Saugeais will be our biggest opponent for leadership of the group, but teams like Estope, Backyard Sports, and lower ranked sides such as Free Swiss States or New Bierstaat could also surprise and make a push for the top seed. Here's our schedule:

MD1-Backyard Sports vs Sicoutimont
MD2-Estope vs Sicoutimont
MD3-Sicoutimont vs Saugeais, @ Field PowerEternite
MD4-New Bierstaat vs Sicoutimont
MD5-Sicoutimont vs Free Swiss States, @ Field PowerEternite
MD6-Sicoutimont vs Backyard Sports, @ Field PowerEternite
MD7-Sicoutimont vs Estope, @ Field PowerEternite
MD8-Saugeais vs Sicoutimont
MD9-Sicoutimont vs New Bierstaat, @ Field PowerEternite
MD10-Free Swiss States vs Sicoutimont

3 home games directly in the middle of the tournament will be a helping hand. The first home game against Saugeais will likely sell out, and could also be a chance for Les Royales to use the home field advantage to get ahead of the 10th ranked side. The games don't start for a while, but tune in to see Sicoutimont take on Backyard Sports as Les Royales began their quest to prove they are deserving of the rank of 11th best team in the world!

Qazox' Roster of the 26th World Baseball Classic

Postby Qazox » Tue May 14, 2013 5:18 pm

In the 1st third of WBC history, Qazox ware one of the 3 dominate teams (Az-cz and Milchama); the 2nd third, contenders that always seems to be missing something that kept them from winning a title (most likely no women), and in the last third... who the hell knows. As the WBC starts it's 6th decade (ooc: going every 2 years, qazox-wise) Qazox is ranked 15th, the lowest the team has been ranked at any point in it's history.

Last time around, another group failed to do anything at the WBC, and as is the Qazoxian Baseball Federation's wont, they decided to re-build (again for the 16th time). Maybe there will be something good that comes out of this team, but expectations are low and when the goal is just to make the playoffs, then perhaps a change is needed, not just on the field, but in the front offices as well.

Xamgibtopia was a small nation, known for its Ottifants, Bananas, Origami and Opium. Also they loved Cricket and Baseball. For people not familiar to these sports this seems legit. The truce is, that in its long history of beeing conquered, another nation brought baseball, long after Cricket was established, to these nation.

The last conquerer was Kriegiersien, taking over after a short, devastating war. As the Xamgibtopien Baseballteams are much better, the players for the World Baseball Classics Team of Kriegiersien are consisting mainly of Xamgibtopiens.

Scandigrad National Baseball Team, WBC 26

As part of the mission of Prime Minister Greg Mitchell, the Commonwealth of Scandigrad has chosen to organize and bring a national team to the World Baseball Classic. This signifies the fruits of a two year old cultural campaign to encourage Scandigradians to consider the world at large, and what it might be like outside of Scandigrad.

Baseball is the pastime of Scandigrad. It is the most popular sport, and Scandigrad's participation in the WBC was seen by many as the first natural mainstream step for many people. Scandigradians are looking forward to this event with great excitement, as a wave of patriotism and national pride has swept across the nation in anticipation for the WBC.

Notes

Peter Bach is a big advocate of sabermetrics, so the Federation of Free Republics is a team that emphasizes getting baserunners and preventing baserunners. Every hitter on the FFR team should be considered a serious threat to draw a walk. Korgay is the team's slugger. The rest of the hitters get on base frequently. The FFR doesn't steal bases much, although they do have team speed. Pitching-wise, Peter Bach prefers pitchers with good control, so they won't be walking many hitters and will never intentionally walk an opposing hitter. Bolko is a DH because he is horribly defensively at every position these days, but he can still hit. He won't be starting during road games where the opposing team doesn't use the DH. The stadiums are all sponsored by the highest bidder. The Church of Saintland is financing an extremist political party (the "Holy Party") in the FFR and trying to recruit people in the gigantic Federation, which spans 4 continents. Because the local leagues in most Republics are currently in midseason, these are not the best players that Free Republics has to offer. They are merely the players that Peter Bach was able to get on his team.

Win or Go Home

Now we grant you, normally that's how tournaments work. Either you win or you go home with nothing. However, for the first time in a long time the Milchama Warriors are right back to where they belong, at the top. With a number one ranking in the world and the usual outsized expectations from fans (seriously, there is only one team that it is semi-acceptable to lose against and they don't play anymore) the Warriors are under immense pressure to deliver a championship. As a matter of fact if they don't win a championship it might mean the jobs of many players on the team because their job is to win. That's right, a bad performance and the Milchamian tradition of having the same team for like 8 straight tournaments might be broken.

Anyway, as usual we have the exact same roster as last time:

C: Marion HaLivni
1b: Karl Flork
2b: Leah Finter
SS: Red Vlorber
3b: Dan Scoot
LF: Yossi Millar
CF: Tal Artik
RF: Naomi Flentstein
DH (only on the road): Ram Stevens

Starting Rotation:
SP 1: Kenny Valentine
SP 2: Darius McKilney
SP 3: Eddie Hunt
SP 4: Garrett El-Karabi

Bullpen:
CL: Simon Shem Tov
Set Up: Tim Lillian
Middle Relief: Tzlil Keshet
Long Man: Helton Skelton
Extra: Teashmo Contallion

Bench:
Middle Infielder: Manny Kauff
IF: Brandon Fletcher
1b/RF: Ram Stevens
CF/OF: Del Kent
OF: Aliza Werter
C: Quemp Whoat

Milchama has no DH at home games.
Lineup w/o DH:
2b: Leah Finter
SS: Red Vlorber
C: Marion HaLivni
1b: Karl Flork
LF: Yossi Millar
3b: Dan Scoot
RF: Naomi Flentstein
CF: Tal Artik
[Pitcher]

SPs hitting abilities:
Valentine- Can PH = really good
McKilney- Bunts well, bad overall.
Hunt- Good for a pitcher
El-Karabi- Incompetent. But has power!

Lineup w/DH:
2b: Leah Finter
SS: Red Vlorber
C: Marion HaLivni
DH: Ram Stevens
1b: Karl Flork
LF: Yossi Millar
3b: Dan Scoot
CF: Tal Artik
RF: Naomi Flentstein

Do anything you want to my players. I do not use a DH at home. Most of the time starters go about 7 or 8 innings.

Easy Group Should Mean Advancement

In what has been described as a "good joke" and "a nice warmup" the Milchama Warriors have been handed quite possibly the easiest qualifying group in memory. I don't just mean in the World Baseball Classic, I mean in any sport. While there have been groups where the Warriors were expected to advance easily --see the last World Cup for a good example-- never has it looked so lopsided for the Warriors. The second ranked team in the group, Ko-oren is ranked 17th. While it is baseball, and yes anything can happen, if the Warriors lose more than two games something has gone seriously wrong. Like fireable offense wrong, or gravity no longer exists wrong. You know, something like that. Manager Jack McKewing did not try to downplay expectations saying, "This group should be a good warmup for our guys before the important games take place in the playoffs. I'm sure these other countries think they can play baseball but we're better and we plan on showing it."

I guess the only problem is complacency then. Anyway, without further ado, here's the usual really arrogant Milchamian predictions!

Group 2
Cyborg Holland (27)- Ponies. Apparently missed the memo that all the pony teams should be in one group. Anyway, they didn't advance last time so they should not be a threat this time. Two easy wins for the Warriors.
Milchama (1)- That's us! We're the best in the world by ranking now. With two straight third place finishes Milchama has finally shown itself to be the baseball powerhouse that the countries citizens demand. However, third is not good enough and the team has clear instructions to win or face real challenges back home. Thank god this group is awful.
Sangti (UR)- Unranked = terrible. They'll get a nice look at what a powerhouse international baseball team does when the Warriors take both games by an average of 8 runs.
German-Spanish Empire (UR)- Look up. Also, neither Spain or Germany is good at baseball (Donald Lutz excepted) so they might be worse than Sangti. 10 run average win for the Warriors.
Ko-oren (17)-The only potential threat to Milchamian absolute domination. They broke last time as a 16 seed and got swept by The Equestrian States. They might take one game off us but both games should be close.
The Royal Kingdom of Quebec (58)- Quebec, in general, is not good at baseball. Montreal doesn't have a team anymore and so forth. Also, they're ranked 58th which means that they are also bad at baseball. Therefore, Milchama should again win easily.

So final Warriors record: 9-1, 2nd overall seed.

Fun Fact: Milchama did not win a playoff game in WBC 25 by more than one run until the third place series. That's clutch! (And really unsustainable and worrying in light of this previously ridiculously arrogant post, but who cares that was last WBC and against better teams. The teams here still really suck and Milchama are better now with that experience so everything should be fine.)
