The Roster is made of players who are anonymous at this time due to the incident of toilet smashing last World Baseball Classic. Many of the players are believed to be the same given information from the recalled players from the Serbian Club level teams, but the names haven't been officially released. Further data on said players will be released tomorrow as the statisticians are still compiling stats from various leagues that the Serbian Empire's players are playing in.

Style Bonus: +5, a hard hitting and highly aggressive offense prone to both stealing bases and hitting long balls. The pitching is average to slightly above average, but the defensive players are error prone to the point of needing a DH to make up for the runs allowed.

Home Stadium: Vraneš Stadia located in Niš. It's simply the Radnicki Niš soccer stadium having been adjusted for baseball play. Capacity is increased to 27,500.

Manager: Milan Sreckovic

The Zwangzug Zebras!

Numbers after the teams denote their first tournament: this is mostly for personal record keeping. RPers have free rein, though I'd ask you to justify any departures from the given lineup or "rotation".

The Zebras are a defensively-minded team overall, eschewing many power hitters in favor of patience at the plate. Pitchers, likewise, tend more towards finesse than speed. There is no DH used at our home stadium, the Worm Hole (located in Spenson).

Manager: Kyle Polzin (Kerlagrad Dragons). A friendly face in the clubhouse, but tends to micromanage all sorts of coaching decisions. Which is probably better suited for a short-term tournament like this one, to be fair.

Zebra policy abandons the traditional idea of a bullpen. Instead, all twelve Zebras pitchers are starters on their professional teams (though they'll also come off the bench to work relief here). They'll start the group stage games in order; no set rules as to who comes in when, feel free to make it up if you're RPing before me (but probably not the starter for either the previous or following game).

Pitchers:

#2, Hiroto Empp-Ishikawa, R/R, Kerlagrad Dragons, 24

<Koyro> (Democratic Koyro) NSG senate is a glaring example of why no one in NSG should ever have a position of authority
The Emerald Dawn wrote:"Considering Officer Krupke was patently idiotic to charge these young men in the first place, we're dropping the charges in the interest of not wasting any more of the Judiciary's time with farcical charges brought by officers who require more training on basic legal principles."

Petrus Arminus arrested

(SP) In a shocking development, the disgraced former captain of the Kingdom of Saintland's National Baseball Team was arrested today in St. Paulus. St. Paulus police were on a routine patrol when they heard loud noises coming from a public restroom. Police walked into the restroom and discovered Petrus Arminus, the former captain and catcher for the National Baseball Team, engaged in sinful acts with a member of the opposite sex. "I didn't believe it when I heard the news. Petrus Arminus was the captain of our team just a few months ago. I suspected that he wasn't right with the Lord, but I never would have thought that he would be caught fornicating in public. God must have been sending us a message during the last World Baseball Classic when nothing seemed to go right for us. I just hope Petrus gets the help he needs and someday repents of his sins." - Ioannes Bebius

Petrus Arminus was the captain for the Kingdom of Saintland's National Baseball Team at the start of World Baseball Classic 25. He lasted a total of 4 games as captain. During that time, the Sanctii were blown out by Central North America and lost to Raxillion. Both of those nations are so lowly at international baseball that they aren't even participating in this World Baseball Classic. Worse, Petrus Arminus ignited a bench-clearing brawl between his own team when he punched Josephus Oppius and knocked out the 7-foot closer. Later on, Arminus was reported to have trashed hotel rooms in Free South Califras. It was just an all-around disgraceful performance. Things hit rock-bottom after Arminus was removed as captain and suspended from baseball. The Sanctii would be no-hit by Ko-oren's 5th starter in an embarrassing performance. Petrus Tragus turned things around enough to salvage 2 wins, but WBC 25 remained a debacle for the Sanctii.

Since he was removed as captain and suspended from baseball by King Paulus XV, Petrus Arminus had spent the last few months in obscurity. His suspension was scheduled to come to an end next week and he was widely expected to return to baseball. However, this arrest likely signifies the end of his baseball career.

St. Paulus police say that Arminus was found in an area that is frequented by known prostitutes. According to the police, the woman that was Arminus's accomplice in the crime looked the part of a prostitute. She reportedly had a number of tattoos on her body and a bag containing excessively revealing clothing was found nearby. No identification was found, so St. Paulus police do not know her identity at this time.

If the woman involved in the crime is discovered to be a prostitute, Arminus would face a minimum sentence of 7 years in prison while his accomplice would be turned over to the Church of Saintland's ministry for fallen women. This is a very serious crime and it seems to confirm the suspicions of Sister Polus that the National Baseball Team had fallen into sin during the last WBC. World Baseball Classic 26 starts in less than a week. Be sure to check out our WBC preview article in an upcoming edition of the Saintland Press.

Official Commentator and Post Game Analyst(s): Joey Tortia and Rolland Sargusso

A team constructed from the multimillion Yoso earning superstars of Allinlia's 30 team Professional Baseball League, after getting an upset win over the mighty Western Cuba and overall achieving slight progress in a tough group last WBC, the Allinlians nevertheless disappointed as they failed to make the playoffs with their 4-6 record, 1 win better than their debut.

The roster has mostly stayed intact from the one the empire utilized in it's first 2 trips to the classic, it has nevertheless seen some interesting changes, overall it has gone a bit younger and more in line with the recent state of affairs in Allinlia's domestic baseball league. Additionally after 2 seasons a couple of players just seemed to never get comfortable with international tournament play and were cut.

exciting young Patronus Falcons ace Jerry Bowler replaces the great Xavier Wilson in the starting rotation. Bowler is coming off a pitcher of the year campaign and has looked very dominant recently. Wilson remains one of, if not the best pitchers in the domestic league and has managed to lead his Caoloon Bulls to a championship since the last WBC, however the veteran struggled immensely in all of his WBC games and just seemed to be having a miserable time in the tournament, even being found drunk and passed out in an alley outside a bar after one particularly bad game! Cutting him from the WBC squad probably will do him as much good as the team.

The aging Terrell Hunter was replaced by Fonzona Giants center fielder Joey Bezzio Jr. one of the fastest center and most athletic fielders in the league right now, especially on defense. Bezzio Jr. also takes the lead-off spot in the starting rotation originally held by Conor Levins

Another aging and declining great, Jason Reece was cut, in favor of Dallint Stallions infielder George Mayo, who will play off the bench.

Travis Patterson and Wall Largo seemed to struggle in the bullpen last WBC and have been replaced by young Tallos Hawks closer Kel White, who will play mid relief, and Sullo Hounds ace pitcher Doug Hendriks, who will be the team's new long reliever.

Conor Levins, Cal Gordo, and Crowder Grimes have been benched while Devin Kearns, Toby Abbott, and Nick Fasano have been put into the starting rotation. Bobby Lecroy has been moved to mid relief as Fonzona Giants closer Tommy Vickers will become the new WBC closer and the Manta Ray's Boof Mendoza is moved into the set-up spot

Lastly, Avallaice Diamonds manager Raymond Weiss is replacing Ron Gardner. Gardner has generally done a pretty decent job navigating the tangled mess of egos that make up this team of super-stars. With this change we are seeing one extremely well respected member of the managerial old guard replaced by another. The sports council likely thought a new direction at manager was warranted due to the team's limited improvement, hopefully the change of pace works out and Allinlia can see the playoffs for the first time in international play with this WBC!

Home Field: Estes Field, Fonzona

Home of the defending champion Fonzona Giants! A smallish mid market city of little note located in the dry canyons and mesas of Allinlia's northwest mountain range, the city of Fonzona is a quiet and out of the way town with still alot to do. The biggest attraction is the beautiful countryside, the area is home to a number of national parks and the local food is of note, featuring many sizzling traditional dishes that make generous use of the region's numerous types of chili peppers. The BBQ techniques utilized by the local restaurants are based on ancient native Dralin traditions dating back thousands of years. Fonzona is home to many of Allinlia's largest shipping companies as the lonely network of backroads winding through the desert and mountains provide shortcuts to many of the empire's premier cities.

OFFICIAL STRAWBEE SPORTS REPORT FOR INTERNATIONAL NEWS AGENCIES:

Strawbee is once again in the World Baseball Classic! The team this year has been completely unchanged as ordered by Great and Honorable Leader, Miss Strawberry. Our Wise leader was extremely pleased with the team's performance and wishes to see what will happen if the group is kept together with 1 more year of tournament experience and another shot. Can they do even better this year???

The team exceeded expectations as our goal was merely to do better than Allinlia, our neighbor to the east. Not only did we beat Allinlia, but we got a 7-3 record for 2nd place in group and made the playoffs in our first year! We also nearly beat Darmen but narrowly lost in 9th inning due to inexperience. Darmen went on to win championship so we almost beat best team in whole world! For our players' thrilling performance and courage they were awarded with world rank #33 and many of our young players got professional contracts from Allinlian Baseball league! They are living celebrity high life now friends!

Great and Honorable Leader Miss Strawberry will once again view the games in person and cheer for our team! She has said that she will travel with the team to away matches as well. Our team is a unique team that demonstrates racial unity as we have numerous human, dralin, and pony players. We have drawn Group #3 which has 2 majority pony nations. Great Leader is pony herself and said she is looking forward to vistings.

Strawbee is respected and feared team on world stage now, but they have been placed in Group #3 a very elite group that has some of the very best teams! It is an unlucky draw and will be a truly challenging test for Strawbee team. Can we pull out a win? THE SPORTS ZONE will give you our predictions for the super teams in Group #3:

#1 Group Champion: Equestrian States

Strawbee once again is in group with Equestrian States team. The Equestrian States is truly world elite level team. No, they are best team in entire world! Do not let their world rank #9 fool you! Last World Baseball Classic, Equestrian States team beat Strawbee both games! Wow! They are fierce rivals to Strawbee and are even better looking team this year! Watch out! We predict Equestrian States will win Group #3 easily. lose maybe 2 games.

#2 Strawbee

Maybe we are too optimistic, baseball fans, but we believe in our boys! Strawbee will have very tough time in such a strong group as this, maybe mighty Karditan will take this spot? Karditan are favored team to take 2nd place by world experts but we think Strawbee's spirit will prevail. Our team will need all your support and cheers to defeat such powerful opponents in this group, but we can do it!

Our prediction: Strawbee in the playoffs once again! But won't be easy!

#3 Karditan

Karditan is known around world as the cursed team. They get cheated out of rightful playoff spot all the time despite having clearly superior performance and more wins than so many other teams! Why?! Not this year baseball fans! Karditan is one of the best teams this WBC and darkhorse to maybe steal group away from Equestrian States! They are favored team to take 2nd place and will fight hard with Strawbee to take it but even if in third place they will surely make postseason as one of the best four 3rd place teams, despite rest of group's clearly superior strength. They will fight to not be denied playoffs this year, friends!

Our Prediction: 3rd place, but will get in playoffs as very best 3rd place team!

#4 Skeckoa

The X-Factor team of Group #3! Skeckoa is like Strawbee, they are a mighty new team to the WBC and ready to take the world by storm! Watch out! Like Strawbee and Equestrian States, this team made the playoffs last tournament and had dominant winning record just like Strawbee, Equestrian States and Karditan. They are predicted by experts to get 4th place in group but make no mistake! They are big threat to everyone else in group 3. Will they shock Strawbee and steal the playoffs from us? You will need to tune in to find out my friends!

Our prediction: 4th place, but it will be close!

#5 Free Republics

Free Republics are making their debut in the WBC right here and now! Our experts do not know much about this brand newcomer to the big show but from what we have seen they look very good. Group 3 is so strong however that we think they could be in for rough time. But underestimate this team at your own peril viewers! Strawbee was newcomer team and pulled off shocking wins to take group 2nd place. This is a young team with lots of spirit too but faces much stronger group than we did last year.

Our Prediction: 5th place, 3-4 wins

#6 Republic of Lanos

Another mysterious newcomer team! We do not know much about this team either but experts are not so optimistic. They have some players with lots of talent but are in very hard group for any newcomer! They will struggle but we predict at least 1 big upset from this fearless team! Let's hope it's not Strawbee!

Our Prediction: 6th place, 2-3 wins, better luck next time!

--

There is our expert predictions sports fans! It is true test of spirit for Strawbee this time! There are so many elite teams in our group and every match will be exciting as Strawbee Baseball team fights for survival on our quest for baseball glory. Our dream is the baseball championship but we have to get through this exciting group first! Can we possibly do it? Tune in to Government channel 8 for LIVE coverage of every match! Good luck baseball heroes!

GLORY TO STRAWBEE

New Montreal States Reformed Expos Roster
Manager: Lionel Dayton
Home games are played WITH the DH

+2 mod; there's more good hitting than good pitching in this group

The National and Montréalais League teams are reluctant to let their best veterans, especially those with colossal paychecks, play in the WBC. The Reformed Expos therefore consist mostly of prospects and rookies, but this season a few stars have added themselves to the mix: Ephraim Zimbalist Jr. led the Ligue Nationale with a .444 OBP; Jean-Charles St-Anton, on the outs with Repentigny management after the other eight members of the starting lineup from last season were traded away during the offseason, has taken his 37 homeruns to the Reformed Expos this spring training. Larry Walker and Loic Cloutier both hit well for extra bases. All-star Greg Hoagland has been allowed to join the team, on the condition that he only come off the bench. Sam Vaillancourt, meanwhile, has elite range and speed, but will probably be starting the season in Triple-A until he figures out how to hit.

The pitching is a bit less star-studded, but Luc Lachapelle-Lachance throws a mean knuckle curve, and Alexandros Diapoulous weighs 215 pounds, 5 lbs. of which consists of his massive, dark beard, and hits 99 mph on a regular basis.

Starting Lineup

CF 90 Ephraim Zimbalist, Jr.
2B 7 Greg George

Starting Rotation

LHP 15 Fabrice Chapleau - injured during Game 2
LHP 3 Luc Lachapelle-Lachance

After taking the last two WBCs off, the Beldonian Nationals are back and looking to upset the field and take the classic.

Beldonian World Baseball Classic 26 Team
Coaches:
Manager--Jason Musgrave, age 53--Musgrave is the manager of the Scarborough Lions of Beldonian Major League Baseball and has established his team as a perennial contender for the title. However, he has yet to win a title as a manager, a gaping hole in his resume. Even so, he stands the best chance to get some results for the Beldonian Nationals at the WBC. Definitely more of an offensive expert, and not really a pitching or fielding guy. More of a hands off manager, allowing his players to swing away and score runs however they see fit; he does an excellent job overseeing the team's operations.

Bench Coach--Pops MacClendon, age 59--MacClendon recently left the small market Garthon Alligators of the BMLB to manage the Benry Grizzlies, one of the BMLB's most storied franchises. In doing so, his national profile has resurfaced and grown to the same level as it was two decades ago when he won the BMLB title managing the now defunct Jagoll Bulls. An even tempered man who is highly respected, and a perfect second in command to Musgrave.

Pitching Coach--Richard Hamm, age 48--Hamm, who once upon a time was unequivocally the best pitching coach in the BMLB, has been managing the Hatch City Dominators for a few seasons now and has taken them to the playoffs twice. He has been known to transform the careers of several struggling pitchers with his instruction; in motivating pitchers, Hamm is unrivaled in Beldonia.

First Base Coach--Al Jones, age 65--Jones manages the Trainta Gorillas of the BMLB; he was supposed to be the third base coach of the national team three years ago, but was replaced at the last minute. He comes into this WBC looking to prove that snubbing him last time was a mistake. An intense man and a baseball lifer; he's a hall of fame first baseman whose career started over forty years ago and ended twenty years ago.

Third Base Coach--Paul Fiddler, age 45--Fiddler will serve as the third base coach, a position traditionally reserved for the winner of the most recent BMLB title, provided that he isn't already coaching in another position. Fiddler managed the rough and tumble Hantz Boars to their first ever BMLB title. A good guy who knows how to motivate, but not a great baseball mind. Even so, he knows how to win.

Lineup:
LF--Goose Finley, age 29--Bats L, Throws L--Recent season stats: .294, 10 HR, 51 RBI, 44 SB--Finley is a member of the Warfield Warblers and is returning for his second WBC. Gave a solid performance last time. Has lost some speed, but is still one of the BMLB's fastest. A bit of a wild and crazy guy who loves to play pranks on his teammates. A fine fielder.

2B--Ryan Wilkinson, age 26--Bats R, Throws R--Recent season stats: .305, 15 HR, 71 RBI, 28 SB--Wilkinson is playing in his first WBC and is a good all around talent. He is a member of the Hatch City Dominators. Has four out of five tools, and his power hitting has yet to come all the way along. A slick fielder. Rarely walks.

RF--Ray Monte, age 30--Bats R, Throws R--Recent season stats: .318, 34 HR, 115 RBI, 18 SB--Monte is a two time MVP for the Lenahan Padres, although this past season he came up a little bit short. A five tool player and a clubhouse leader, he is returning for his second WBC after a good performance three years ago. Has a rocket for an arm and is a threat on the base paths.

1B--Mike Danks, age 30--Bats R, Throws L--Recent season stats: .324, 48 HR, 147 RBI, 3 SB--Danks, playing for the Benry Frigate Birds, had a career year last year en route to winning the MVP award. This is his second WBC, but only his first time as a starter. A bit of a smoldering personality and a fiery talent; teammates and reporters alike are advised to stay away from him after he's performed poorly.

3B--Monticort Preston, age 32--Bats R, Throws R--Recent season stats: .278, 37 HR, 132 RBI, 7 SB--Preston is coming off a career year for the Wellesley Bearcats and finds himself on his first WBC team, replacing expected starter Justin Wooper, who had an exceptionally poor year. Preston is arrogant and hits the ball almost exclusively to leftfield. Made a surprising run at the MVP award last year due to sabermetrical findings, but came up short.

CF--Joe Cod, age 25--Bats R, Throws R--Recent season stats: .299, 21 HR, 84 RBI, 34 SB--Cod, a standout player for the Lenahan Padres, had what would be considered a down year for him, despite a fairly impressive statline. The brash young player is appearing in his second WBC after a solid performance last time. Looks to recapture his transcendent form during the tournament.

C--Leroy Johnson, age 28--Bats L, Throws L--Recent season stats: .304, 14 HR, 80 RBI, 9 SB--Johnson plays for the Benry Frigate Birds and is appearing in his second WBC and his first as a starter. Lives and dies by hitting bloops up the middle, but luckily, he hits them quite a lot. An affable man and a fan favorite, some female fans have taken to calling him "the teddy bear".

SS--John Cortland, age 27--Bats R, Throws L--Recent season stats: .310, 23 HR, 76 RBI, 12 SB--Cortland, playing for the Hantz Boars, surprised everyone by having a breakout year and leading his squad to the league championship. No one is sure whether the season was just a fluke, and Cortland looks to prove that he'll be a force for a while.

Pitcher's Slot

Bench
C--Steve Hughes, age 39--Bats R, Throws R--Recent season stats: .251, 18 HR, 59 RBI, 0 SB--It took a lot of begging and pleading, but the veteran Hughes of the Hantz Boars has found himself on his first WBC team. Not a great player, and is on the team as a reward for his years of playing in the league and in recognition of his first championship.

3B--Justin Wooper, age 35--Bats S, Throws R--Recent season stats: .261, 18 HR, 63 RBI, 2 SB--Wooper was poised to have another great season for the Benry Grizzlies, but found himself having the worst year of his career. He was placed on his second WBC team with great hesitation, and largely because of his experience.

SS--Lee Munoz, age 23--Bats S, Throws L--Recent season stats: .274, 3 HR, 56 RBI, 25 SB--Munoz, playing for the Radnor Owls, won Rookie of the Year last season. He returns to the WBC having played in the last one when he was only in college.

LF--Rich Albert, age 34--Bats R, Throws R--Recent season stats: .281, 33 HR, 112 RBI, 6 SB--Three years have passed since the last WBC. Since that time, the consistent but unexciting Albert, playing for the Wellesley Bearcats, has made three more all star squads. A good hitter but a bad fielder. Pulls the ball to right field a lot. Will bat DH in the games that require it, batting sixth. This is his second WBC.

CF--Tyler Cloute, age 25--Bats S, Throws R--Recent season stats: .291, 16 HR, 79 RBI, 16 SB--A good all around player playing for his hometown team, the Trainta Gorillas. Playing in his first WBC, he hopes to be on many more teams in later years.

Rotation
SP--Ronnie Ray, age 25--Bats L, Throws L--Recent season stats: 15-6, 2.74 ERA, 298 K--Playing for the hapless Garthon Alligators, Ray's win totals are never high, but he's impressive in nearly every other category. The young star returns for his second WBC after a strong performance three years ago. Consistently leads the league in strikeouts.

SP--Jim Steilacoom, age 27--Bats R, Throws R--Recent season stats: 22-7, 3.03 ERA, 220 K--The less dominant but luckier Steilacoom has established himself as Ray's rival as the best pitcher in Beldonia. He won the Top Pitcher award as a member of the Benry Grizzlies. He hopes to do a good job in his first WBC. Has a good splitter and a nice curve.

SP--Marty Effenrube, age 33--Bats R, Throws R--Recent season stats: 18-9, 3.25 ERA, 187 K--It's no secret that Effenrube's game has taken a couple of steps back since claiming the Top Pitcher award two seasons ago, but he's still the best starter on the reigning champions, the Hantz Boars. Good fastball and curve, with a solid changeup. Did a decent job in his last WBC

SP--Luke Pena, age 29--Bats L, Throws L--Recent season stats: 16-8, 3.00 ERA, 203 K--The hard thrower from the Hatch City Dominators did a good job in all areas last season. One of coach Richard Hamm's many successful projects on the mound. The WBC newcomer throws, almost unquestionably, the best fastball in the BMLB.

SP--Mark Bellanger, age 36--Bats L, Throws L--Recent season stats: 12-10, 3.45 ERA, 177 K--After being suspended from the BMLB for a season for testing positive for cocaine, Bellanger proved that he could still pitch solidly with the Gerace Tortises and is now back for his second WBC after a horrendous stretch three years ago. A good man, but a bit of a tortured soul. He hopes to recapture past glory.

Bullpen
RP--Ben Bruszcynski, age 36--Bats L, Throws L--Recent season stats: 64 G, 5-3, 3.32 ERA, 128 K--Bruszcynski doesn't have the stuff that he used to, but the long reliever of the Scarborough Lions is still one of the best at what he does. A junkballer with a slurve, a palmball and a forkball. Back for his second WBC.

RP--Chris Standish, age 24--Bats R, Throws R--Recent season stats: 13-12, 3.65 ERA, 188 K--The young hurler of the Hantz Boars came up huge in the playoffs last year and helped carry his team to the championship. Starts in the BMLB, but will be in the bullpen in this WBC. Has an excellent two seam fastball and is a WBC rookie.

RP--Drew Canton, age 31--Bats R, Throws R--Recent season stats: 77 G, 2.01 ERA, 65 K--The long haired middle reliever for the Canalave Sharks is known for a good slider and an annoying personality. An unpopular choice for this WBC team, which is his first.

RP--Tom Stevens, age 30--Bats R, Throws R--Recent season stats: 10-10, 4.03 ERA, 130 K--This starter in the BMLB recently signed with the Lenahan Hawks. After serving in the bullpen three years ago, he was all set to jump to the WBC rotation until uncorking one of his worst seasons to date. As a result, he's stuck in the bullpen and is disappointed about it.

RP--Adam Mossburgh, age 29--Bats R, Throws R--Recent season stats: 33 SV, 2.34 ERA, 67 K/60 IP--Mossburgh closes for the Lenahan Padres but will serve in a setup role for his second WBC. Has a good fastball, but his breaking pitches are lacking.

RP--Bud Wu, age 40--Bats L, Throws L--Recent season stats: 50 SV, 3.03 ERA, 32 K/56 IP--Wu had a breakout year at age forty while closing for the Garthon Alligators. He will be a setup man in this WBC and is appearing in his first WBC.

CL--Gary Colesey, age 27--Bats L, Throws L--Recent season stats: 42 SV, .78 ERA, 117 K/65 IP--This closer for the Canalave Sharks is coming off a transcendent year in which he won the Top Reliever award and received votes for MVP and Top Pitcher. Knows how to blow away batters with an incredibly hard fastball.

Starting Lineup (BOLD is Lefty, ITALICS is SWITCHHITTER)

1. SS Darren Bradley- Age 29, #15 (Can also play: None): Best contact hitter in the Llamaland Baseball League. Good speed/defense and veteran presence. Good power for his relatively small size.

2. 2B Max Danks- Age 24, #2 (3B, SS) A scrappy player who can steal often and plays amazing defense. Good hitter, but could improve.

3. 3B Alex Cameron- Age 29, #7 (None) A former benchwarmer, Cameron underwent a Jose Bautista- like transformation. Now is a fantastic 30-30 type hitter with good contact. Defense needs work.

4. 1B Danny Mills- Age 30, #13 (None) Mills, a power hitter, loves pulling it to right field. Average contact hitter but when he hits it, he hits it FAR. Also a sterling defender at first.

5. RF Chris Harder- Age 28, #30 (LF) Chris Harder may be just a slightly-above-average hitter, but his throwing arm is one of the best his team has ever seen. Below average speed.

6. CF Brett Rochester- Age 23, #0 (OF) Rochester is the kind of player who bunts himself onto first, steals second and third, and then tags up for home on a pop fly just out of the infield to the opposing shortstop. Without bunt singles, he's hitting .279, but with them, he's .305. He can also slap it over defenders when they pull in. Without these kind of hits, he's hitting .265. Average everything else.

7. LF Jake Addams- Age 25, #1 (OF) Almost as fast as Rochester.

8. C Tyler Thomas- Age 37, #3 (1B) A veteran who is a great plate handler. (Throws righty)

9. DH (If needed) Keith Dawson- Age 22, #24(C/1B) Young and raw but with fantastic power.

BENCH

Jim Atkins, OF, #18, 33: A veteran who beats lefties to death: .381 against them compared to .235 versus righties. A good option for pinch-hitting, with a great arm in right, left or center.

Drew Stephenson, IF, #11, 28: He can play third, short, second, and left. Good contact, speed, and defense, everything else is below-average.

Duncan Roberts, IF, #18, 25: One of just a few lefties on the squad, Roberts is a world-class defender. That's about it besides above-average speed and good contact hitting.

Manager- Joe McKenzie, 54
Hitting Coach- Steve Mays, 57
1B Coach- Nick Horry, 44
3B Coach- Stan Evans, 66
PITCHING COACH- Thomas Yaft, 42
BULLPEN COACH- Chris Evans, 41
BULLPEN CATCHERS- Don George, 36, and Jack Aaron, 45.

The Llamas, removed from a heartbreaking and controversial final-day elimination to unranked underdogs Skeckoa, take the number-twenty seed into their fourth tournament, still looking for a playoff spot. They have placed third, fourth, and seventh with two hot starts and two great chances but could win.
Thomas Yaft, the old manager, was disappointed after his ouster as coach. Yaft, a former New Llama Cyclones starter who won 219 games in his career, will become pitching coach. Pitching coach Chris Evans will become bullpen coach to adjust to the retirement of Vinny Marrero. Bullpen catcher Ray Nelson was signed by the Cyclones and decided to chase his old major-league dream after a successful minor league career. In his place is the recently retired Don George. The new manager is former New Llama Cyclones manager Joe McKenzie (who complied a 1867-1211 over nineteen years) who agreed to be international team manager.

PITCHING

Starters

R Evan Masorka- 27, #43- Low-to-mid nineties fastball, nasty high-80s sinker and splitter, looping low-70s curveball. He's so good with his other pitches and command that he doesn't even need a changeup. His career changed after the development of the final pitch.

L Ryan Lucas- 30, #44- He's made a career of his amazing curveball. A quote from catcher Chris Romatini: "It completely skips the strike zone. It starts on one edge and ends on another." He also has a nice fastball in the low nineties.

L Leo Davis- #51, 26- He's been almost always injured, but has a golden arm. He throws triple-digit fastballs and mid-nineties Mariano Rivera cutters. Who needs offspeed?

R Allan Roswell- #36, 38- He has seven different pitches- fastball, 2-seamer, sinker, slider, cutter, changeup, and eephus. The latter is rarely used but generates punchouts.

R Chris Lee- #31, 27- A knuckleballer who never throws anything else. The result? A 3.10 ERA in 7 years.

RELIEF

R Rick Jackson, #50, 31- A Long Reliever who normally starts, Jackson has a high-80s 2-seamer as his out pitch and usually throws that, a low-70s curve, and a knuckle curve in the high 60s. Nobody knows why he bothered learning two curveballs.

L Nick Carter, Lefty Specialist- 24, #73- Lefties can't hit his low-80s sinker. Most people can hit his mid-80s fastball (besides lefties who are thinking sinker)

L Aaron Raymond/R Alex Carson- Seventh Inning- Raymond- #53, 23: Aaron Raymond features a low-90s 2-seamer and great control. Has gone through four breaking balls looking for the right one and can throw all four to keep you off balance- curveball, slider, cutter, and splitter. Carson- 23, #53: Alex Carson has the same 2-seamer and same control. However, he has a good mid-80s slider and that's it.

L Darren Mueller/L Evan Daye/R Robby Irving- Setup: Mueller- #-3, 24: A slightly cuckoo pitcher (See: Jersey Number) who is one of two pitchers with an eephus on the team. mid-80s 2-seamer, low-60s eephus. Daye- #55, 27: A lefty killer, Daye has an amazing low-90s cutter. That's it. He has no injury troubles or stamina issues, but only one pitch means being whacked in the fourth inning.
Irving: 28/#82- Robby Irving used to be a starter with a low-90s fastball, mid-80s sinker, low-80s slider, and low-70s curveball. Then he got injured and moved to the bullpen.

Nick Bowden- Closer: High 90s-fastball, low 90s- splitter. #43

Group Preview

Postby Super-Llamaland » Wed May 15, 2013 6:58 pm

Group 9
Sakurakoku (51)
Super-Llamaland (20)
Zwangzug (4)
Allinlia (39)
Carasatoga (UR)
Soviet Party (UR)

The Llamas face stiff, semi-stiff, and very-un-stiff competition this season. Let's break it down:

Zwangzug (4)
Obviously the first-place favorite given the Llama's inconsistency and the lack of a team within fifteen spots of their ranking.
Zwangzug's players to watch are Marc Ghasal-Mihaylov, a third baseman, and pitcher Hirito Empp-Ishikawa.

Allinlia (39)
This team is not a team we have played and may challenge the Llamas for second place. We can't find their roster but we'll keep you updated.

Sakurakoku (51)
The team with the best-sounding name (arguably) in the group takes the fifty-first ranking. They appear to have Japaneseoid names. Saki Yasuzumi and Shizuru Yoshino look like impact players.

The Unranked Teams (Carasatoga, Soviet Party)

No info from either team. We don't think they'll pose a challenge, even though that's what we said about Skeckoa. And what everybody else said about us our first year. Who knows with these new teams? They'll shock us all or finish last.

The MVH, MVP, MVR, and other positions were unveiled today.

Most Valuable Hitter: Alex Cameron, on the national team with a .336/.431/.521 line, 36 HRs and 117 RBIs don't hurt either.
Most Valuable Pitcher: Evan Masorka lost by a hair to Ryan Lucas, who went 19-6 with a 2.68 ERA.
Most Valuable Reliever: A foreign pitcher won this award: Canadian Bruce Lawrence struck out batters at a 12.7 K/9 rate. A record fifty-eight saves with a 0.90 ERA.

Cameron and Lawrence's Talahita Tigers won the Best Team Award, going 92-63 in the 155 game season. It was very close, however:

NORTHERN LEAGUE
Talahita Tigers: 92-63
Vargas Comets: 90-65
Apple Valley Bears: 89-66
McKenzie Hill Robins: 83-72
Aarason Llamas: 76-79
Dinschria Wolves: 61-94

SOUTHERN LEAGUE
New Llama Stars: 91-64
Nikcoro Sharks: 91-64
New Llama Cyclones: 84-71
Bryant Tanks: 77-78
Quaseria Whirlwinds: 72-83
Desmonstatia Archers: 62-93

The New Llama Cyclones beat the Apple Valley Bears 3-1 behind Ryan Lucas's pair of shutouts: The scores were 6-0, 3-4, 8-2, and 1-0.
The Cyclones then defeated the Vargas Comets 4-0. Lucas had another strong outing. Scores were 8-6, 10-7, 4-2, and 3-1.
(1) Talahita Tigers beat Ryan Lucas for the first time since 3-9-2012 to beat the (4) New Llama Cyclones in five games. Scores were 4-6, 3-0, 2-1, 4-3, 8-6.
(2) New Llama Stars were edged out by the (3) Nikcoro Sharks thanks to a stellar Evan Masorka performance in three games. Scores were 2-0, 6-8, 4-5, 8-1, 3-5, 4-3 (12 inn.), 6-0. Sharks 4, Stars 3.

In the finals, Talahita faced Nikcoro. Star Brandon Jones was injured and lost his WBC roster spot. A dispirited Talahita bowed down to Nikcoro after the Game 4 injury, 4-2. Scores were: 12-10, 6-5, 2-3, 1-4, 0-3, 3-6.

Cameron's playoff line was: .444/.600/.667; 3 HR, 16 RBI.

This year in Ko-orenite Baseball:

The ninth domestic season started with little change from the previous seasons. 108 games, 20 teams, 2 conferences. The Northwestern Conference and the Southeastern Conference both have 10 teams that all play each other 12 times. The Silver Admirals won the NWC with 84-24, the Charging Hounds won the SEC with 85-23. The runners-up (Golden Generals for NWC and Lava Bearers for SEC) had 75-33 and 77-31. The third placed teams (Fire Chariots and Vintage Cowboys) both had 73-35, and the fourth placed teams (Sun's Regents and Classy Farmers) had 63-45 and 64-44, respectively. This goes to show that both Conferences have little statistical difference between them. The top four teams of each Conference advance to the playoffs, and in round 2 of the playoffs both Conferences still had 2 teams each in the race. The NWC seems to have won this season, as both final teams are from there. In the history of the league, the SEC has won it 5 times, and the NWC has won it 4 times, though the last two seasons both had a winner from the NWC. For next season, the association promised more parity by talent allocating programs, though not much is known. Reason for this is that since the first playoffs, the same eight teams have been in.

The domestic league is just part of the fun: there is the BCCC, too. While last season's final was in Ko-oren, by default as the AIBC headquarters are there, this season's final was in Sicoutimont. Four teams went to the BCCC: Charging Hounds (First Qualifying Round), Lava Bearers (First Qualifying Round), Silver Admirals (First Round Proper) and the Golden Generals (First Round Proper). The Charging Hounds and the Lava Bearers both survived their first round (CH had a 2-1 victory over a Karditan team, LB had a 2-0 victory over a Zwangzug team). The Charging Hounds lost in the Second Qualifying Round against the Eau Claire Cavaliers from Darmen, a famous team in international baseball because they tend to get far in the BCCC. The Lava Bearers qualified for the First Round Proper through a 2-1 victory over a team from Free South Califas.

The Silver Admirals, the regular season NWC champions, won against Ile-Perrot Epee. This meant an 'end to an era' because that Sicoutimont team won the previous two BCCCs. And that, especially in the year of a final in Sicoutimont, was a major victory. The Golden Generals also had no luck in their drawing, having to face the Scott City Blue Jays... from Darmen. They lost 2-0 against the Darmeni, thereby being the second team this season eliminated by a Darmeni team. The Lava Bearers did show how it had to be, beating the Eau Claire Cavaliers with two consecutive victories, 6-1 and 7-2.

Round 2, with two remaining Ko-orenite teams, did not prove to be a major hurdle. Both Ko-orenite teams 'easily' advanced 2-0, the Lava Bearers against the Port Falls Rays from Estope, and the Silver Admirals against Zwangzug's Kerlagrad Dragons. Zwangzug surely was the favored enemy of the Greenblue teams this year. Round 3, with just eight teams left, was the end for the Silver Admirals. Saugeais' Ville-DuPont Bulls were too strong (2-1), while the Lava Bearers eliminated the Wildan Wolves from Western Borderlands. The semifinals were the last game for any Ko-orenite team: the Fillydelphia Fillies, another one of these few extremely strong teams, won 2-1. At least they went on to win the tournament. This season was much, much better than last season, with just one team winning in the First Round Proper.

Next season, apart from the promised parity, should also feature some new teams. If there are enough, more Conferences or more leagues will be added to the system, though if only a few new teams manage to conform to the Association's high standards, they will be added to the current Conferences.

Manager: Ian Wagner - Faced with the unenviable task of leading the first-ever Sandpipers team, the venerable Ian Wagner knows he will need to take full advantage of every opportunity if his team is going to make any headway in WBC 26.

Bench Coach: Angel Barker - A recently-retired star short stop, Barker's relative youth and agressiveness figures to be a perfect compliment to Wagner's more calculating managerial style.

Pitching Coach: Santiago Horton - Horton knows he is probably too inexperienced to be a pitching coach on the international scene; he's terrified that the lineup of pitchers he helped pick are going to fall apart when they face the tougher competition of the WBC. He'd never let that show to any of his players, of course.

First Base Coach: Morris Taylor - A small, stern, rotund man, Howell is known for his big mouth and tendency to pick fights with the umpires. Few remember that he was once one of Cowardly Pacifist's the best catchers, and he pulls double duty as the team's infield trainer.

Third Base Coach: Oliver Howell - A solid, intelligent third base coach (albeit one with a tiny gambling problem), Taylor earns extra money by doubling as the team's outfield trainer.

Hitting Coach: "Big" Jim Wilkerson - Wilkerson didn't really want to come out of retirement to help coach the Sandpipers, but he gave in at the behest of Wagner, who coached him in college. Some say Big Jim is the best hitter the Cowardly Pacifists have ever produced. But most think that's an overstatement.

Bull Pen Coach: Brendan Warren - A dedicated and effective young coach, Warren is secretly hopeful that he will get a chance a the Pitching Coach job in the future if Horton's lineup starts to crack.

1. Terence Ruiz - CF - Captain of the outfield and arguably the best athlete on the team, Ruiz serves as the Sandpipers' lead-off hitter. His hitting skills are respectable, but his real strength is in raw speed.

2. Tam Nguyen - LF - Nguyen is an excellent contact hitter with shifty, deceptive speed. Though he is happy to fill the two-hole spot in the batting order, deep down he somewhat resents that he was not selected as lead-off.

3. Lester Snyder - 3rd Base - Snyder's fun-loving and friendly attitude often causes folks to forget that he is a fierce competitor. He is unquestionably the best all-around hitter on the team, and while he has slowed down over the years he can still keep a decent pace when base running.

4. Rogelio Adkins - 1st Base - There's no doubt about it: Adkins has gotten old. The man simply doesn't run like he used to. But his batting skills have never been better, and his amazing power convinced team management that he deserved the clean-up spot despite his questionable legs.

5. Harvey Oliver - RF - Some say he just doesn't have the range to play outfield, but Oliver is determined to prove them wrong. He is a rock solid hitter with excellent strength, making him the obvious choice to protect Adkins.

6. Austin Schneider - C - The captain of the infield, Schneider is open about being a better asset on defense than on offense. Like many catchers, the wear on his knees makes him one of the weaker base runners on the team. Still, years of working with pitchers has made him a serviceable hitter, and he makes an excellent sacrifice to drive in runs.

7. Albert Wells - 2nd Base - It's not that Wells is a bad hitter, it's just that others on the team are better. Wells is an amazing second baseman who regularly comes up with fantastic defensive plays. Most fans forgive his relatively poor batting average.

8. Darrin Shelton - Short Stop - Shelton is a young, agile short stop who just graduated from high school in May. His defensive skills have been described as "otherworldly," and he's an outstanding base runner. He'd be the first to tell you that he needs more experience facing high-caliber pitchers to improve his batting skills.

9. Pitcher/Designated hitter - The Sandpipers do not use a DH at home. When playing on the road against a team that does use a DH, Kelvin Matthews from the team's bench will bat in place of the pitcher.

Lynn Shaw - C - Shaw is on the team to spell Schneider. He's a competent catcher with great vision. He is also the personal catcher for Oscar Holloway (the two played in college together), and Shaw will regularly sub in for Schneider in games that Holloway pitches.

Jared Fleming - C - Fleming is an unassuming, hardworking man who always gives his all to his team. In the off season, he grows cantaloupe on the family farm.

Julius Joseph - IF - Julius is an athletically gifted player in his prime with tremendous reaction time. Rumor has it that he just barely lost the starting 2nd Base job to Albert Wells. Joseph isn't bitter though: and he's happy to fill in as a rest/injury option and as a left-handed specialist pinch hitter.

Larry Hudson - IF - A solid defender with good speed and quickness, Hudson is also an accomplished hitter. He is often one of the first pinch hitters the team will use.

Cory Henderson - IF - A bring-around player, Henderson really isn't ready for a starting gig. His raw physicality is what got him on this team. He really needs to stop coasting on his physical talents and focus on developing his fundamentals.

Kelvin Matthews - OF - A slim, tall man, Mattews is VERY fast. He may have better outfield range than any other player on the team. His throwing strength and hitting skills are just not quite where they need to be. Still, his speed makes him a good base runner, and he serves as a late order lead-off hitter against teams that use the DH rule.

Curtis Chandler - OF - Another young scrapper, Chandler is bursting with potential. He needs to bring his skills under control, but when he does he will challenge some of the starters for their jobs.

1. Julio Leonard - The team's Ace, Leonard is unquestionably the best pitcher in the rotation. A quiet, unassuming man, he is deeply respected by everyone on the team.

2. Oscar Holloway - Holloway is a boisterous personality who is famous for shaving only after he has earned a win. He calls it his "reward." Holloway is also somewhat particular, preferring to have his old college buddy, Lynn Shaw, catch for him instead of Austin Schneider.

3. Seth Soto - Soto is a tall, cantankerous man, known to intentionally bean opponents when things aren't going his way. He once got into a shouting match with a six year old fan. Despite his personal faults, Soto is a crafty pitcher who is generally expected to come away with a win.

4. Levi Scott - An Ace from yesteryear, Scott no longer has the heat on his fastball or the break on his curve that he used to. He's fallen to 4th in the rotation as a result. An experienced veteran, Scott regularly shares his (sometimes unsolicited) acquired wisdom with other pitchers, to mixed results.

5. Carlos Guerrero - A young pitcher with amazing strength, Guerrero is a work in progress. One day, he'll develop the control he needs to be a world class pitcher. Or so he keeps telling everyone.

Ronnie Bryant - Closer - "Fast Ball" Bryant is indisputably the best reliever on the team. He's a fiery veteran who is steel eyed and cool under pressure. Bryant is rarely used before the last three outs, but every once in a while he'll come in for the last out of the 8th.

Everett Rodgers - Set-up Closer - Narrowly edging Moss for the set-up job, Rodgers is a fantastic reliever with excellent control. He's slightly less skilled than Bryant, but that doesn't stop the team from trusting him in high pressure situations. He often comes into the game in the 8th or late-7th inning, and also serves as the substitute closer when Bryant takes a night off.

Ruben Moss - Mid-reliever - It's no secret that Moss wanted the Set-up closer job. He considers himself the second-best reliever on the team, and his work ethic and clever pitching reflect that. Moss will come in if a starter gets to 100 pitches too early, and serves as the set-up man when either Rodgers or Bryant have a night off.

Rafael Dawson - Mid-reliever/Lefty Specialist - Dawson's an young, easy-going relief pitcher who enjoys his position as the team's lefty reliever. Some say that Dawson has the skills to become the team's closer in the future, but for now he's content in his specialist role.

Malcolm Hines - Long Reliever - When the game is out of reach early, the team will call on Hines. Fresh out of college, Hines needs considerable work before he will be a reliable pitcher. Still, the plucky young man never shies away from a challenge, and he's always ready to jump into a game when he's called.

The team plays their home games at Sandpiper Park, an open roof park located on the downtown Phrytton waterfront. The stadium seats 41,606 people and has standing room for about 1,500 more. Most of the time the weather is sunny and warm, though fog and overcast skies can be an issue in early morning and late evening games. Rain delays are infrequent, but do occur, and sometimes include lightening and thunder. Other weather events are extremely rare.

World Baseball Classic 26 Preview
by: Michelina Panicucci

I am excited to have the privilege to travel with the Republican baseball team and report on their deeds over the course of the upcoming World Baseball Classic. Baseball has always been a popular sport in most of the Federation. The annual World Series between the champions of the different Republics draws a viewership that is estimated at several hundred million unique viewers. But, this is not the World Series. This is the World Baseball Classic. 60 nations will send teams of baseball players to this tournament to claim to be the world champions, even though that title rightly belongs to the winner of the World Series here in the FFR.

Peter Bach has decided to send a team this year. The young manager, influenced heavily by sabermetric analysis, was turned down for the Baseton Brawlers job. At that point, he decided to form a team to compete internationally. I spoke to him and he said, "I talked to managers all around the Federation, asking them to release players that weren't getting much playing time, but fit the mold I was looking for. They were usually willing to part with these players for a few weeks because sitting on the bench wasn't helping their development. I also recruited some of the best college and minor league baseball players throughout the Federation. These players on my team are mostly being overlooked, but I will give them the opportunity to prove that they can deliver on a consistent basis." Indeed, a manager in baseball can only give opportunities. He can't make anybody a great player.

Peter Bach is certainly a daring manager. One of his more controversial moves will be the decision to name Christian Eiffel as his closer. Left-handed pitchers typically don't close, so the lefty closer will be something of an anomaly. Eiffel told me, "I'm looking forward to my chance to prove that I can be a successful closer. I'm happy to finally have a manager that questions the conventional wisdom and is willing to take chances. I hope Mr. Bach succeeds and changes the way the game is played in the FFR."

Eiffel isn't the only player for the FFR baseball team that is hoping to use this opportunity to prove his critics wrong. That describes most of the team. However, that describes nobody moreso than Giancarlo Bolko. Bolko is a 41-year-old designated hitter who is regarded as too old to play everyday. However, he is still a solid hitter, even at his advanced age, and was named team captain by Peter Bach. He will be hoping to show that he is an everyday player at DH.

A worrying sign for the Republican hopes at the upcoming World Baseball Classic was the group draw. The FFR drew the "Group of Death" known as Group 3. This group contains powers such as the Equestrian States and Karditan. It also includes Strawbee and Skeckoa. Last time around, Karditan barely missed the playoffs. The Equestrian States, Strawbee and Skeckoa all made it to the last 20 in the 25th World Baseball Classic. All are expected to be strong contenders to make it to the playoffs this time around.

After the opening day game at #33 Strawbee, the Republicans host The Republic of Lanos, another unranked nation and hopefully, for our sake, an easy win. That will be followed by games at #19 Karditan and #41 Skeckoa. The 5th game is at home against the Equestrian States. Following that game, the schedule will be inverted and the cycle will start over again.

While it would be nice to advance to Cassadaigua and contend for the championship, that just isn't a realistic expectation in this event. If Peter Bach's team of players he believes are overlooked wins 5 out of 10 games, that would likely be considered a successful tournament, considering the level of competition in this group. Regardless, it will be interesting to see whether the Republican baseball fans come out to watch international baseball instead of staying home and watching their favorite team play on TV.

AARDENLAND BACK IN ACTION

National Team Shares Division With WBC XXVI Organizers

Once again, Aardenland's best prepare to play the rest as the followers of baseball across the world wait in anticipation of World Baseball Classic XXVI. Aardenland is classified as a mid-ranked team at 41st overall, with the achievement of a split record in the previous WBC. In their division are high-ranked teams Free South Califas (9) and Byfugland (16), also mid-ranked Powersith (39), low-ranked team Cassadaigua (86), and newcomer Ethington. Cassadaigua, a member of the WBC council, was selected by the council to organize the tournament and presumably host the playoffs. Cassadaigua has been a three time winner and two-time runner-up in the WBC, but the glory days of the team are long past, although they hope to return to glory with their participation in WBC XXVI. Aardenland hopes that despite the hot competition, that it may be able to achieve a seeding in their second WBC.

WBC XXVI Group Preview

Group 4
UR The Warring States of the Mediterranean (0 pts)
21 Vaugania (1.5 pts)
31 Shadowbourne (1.147 pts)
76 Beldonia (.24 pts)
41 The Serbian Empire (.833 pts)
8 Maklohi Vai (2.427 pts)

*All point totals rounded out to a max of 3 decimal places

Vaugania (21): Our favorite team is now entering it's 2nd WBC ranked as the 21st best team in the world. This is only the 2nd time a Vauganian has entered a competition as a ranked team. The 1st was in WCoH XX where the Golden Eagles went in as #36 and failed to advance to the knockout round. Things are looking a little better in baseball, fortunately. In WBC XXV, Vaugania went 9-5 advancing all the way to the Round of 16 and was eliminated by Milchama, who went on to finish third and earn the #1 world ranking. As a part of that 9-5 record, the Golden Eagles were 3-4 against Top 15 teams, which doesn't seem too impressive, but looks pretty good when you consider that they were unranked. If you are an extreme optimist, you might say that Team Vaugania could go 9-1 in the group round, but we expect them to do no better than 8-2. Worst case scenario would likely be 6-4. We are going to be optimistic as far as the knockout round is concerned and say that the Golden eagles will get to the quarterfinals this cycle.

The Warring States of the Mediterranean (UR): Though you should never underestimate an unranked team, the two games against this team should be easy wins. The Warring States are new to the WBC scene and we're not going to expect them to be a Cinderella simply because Cinderellas are rare. We will tentatively chalk up two wins for the Golden Eagles right here.

Shadowbourne (31): Shadowbourne didn't impress in WBC XXV. With a 4-6 record, they finished in the basement of Group 2. However, they are still the #31 team in the world. They still have the potential to hand the Golden Eagles a defeat and we consider them the dark horse of Group 4. We will give Vaugania 1 win here and 1 tossup.

Beldonia (76): Beldonia enters this WBC as team #76 in the world rankings. This is largely due to their 2 WBC hiatus. They will be looking to make a splash here in their return. Vaugania has never competed in a competition with Beldonia, so this will be a completely new experience for both teams. We will however, credit the Golden Eagles with 2 wins over Beldonia.

The Serbian Empire (41): At #41, The Serbian Empire is the 4th highest ranked team in Group 4 behind Maklohi Vai, Vaugania, and Shadowbourne. They finished 5-6 in the last WBC after being knocked out in the Round of 20 play-in games. The plot thickens as it is revealed that The Serbian Empire and Vaugania have played 1 WBC game against each other. It becomes even more interesting when it is discovered that that one game played between the two countries was the one that The Serbian Empire was eliminated from in WBC XXV. Vaugania pulled off a 7-6 win after a walkoff hit in the bottom of the 10th. We expect 2 wins here, but you never know for sure.

Maklohi Vai (8): Maklohi Vai is the top ranked team in Group 4 and also the country we expect to top the group standings after Matchday 10. They are #8 in the world and big things are expected of them due to their 10-6 quarterfinal run. They certainly have the potential to beat the Golden Eagles twice, but we are going to forecast a split series in this matchup.

World Baseball Classic 26: Preview

(SP) The Kingdom of Saintland is entering the World Baseball Classic for the second time and King Paulus XV is demanding results now. At the 25th World Baseball Classic, the Sanctii debuted and had, by far, their worst performance so far in international sports. Petrus Arminus, the team's captain at the time, proved to be a completely incompetent captain. After 4 games, the Sanctii had disgraced themselves and our Kingdom with horrible performances on the field, bench-clearing brawls against one another and even trashing their hotel rooms. Petrus Arminus was removed from the team by King Paulus XV and suspended from baseball. Petrus Tragus became the new Sanctii captain. Although he only picked up 2 wins in 6 games, he still performed well enough in an impossible situation to earn a second chance as Sanctii captain, but the King's patience is running out. "Last time around, I was personally offended by the performance and behavior of my Kingdom's National Baseball Team. At one point, I seriously and publicly considered requiring them to play out their schedule in front of an empty ballpark with no television cameras. I also considered banning the sport of baseball entirely because of how badly they had disgraced the good name and reputation of my Kingdom. However, Petrus Tragus did a good enough job as captain to convince me that he deserves a second chance. Rest assured that, if the National Baseball Team does not advance out of Group 10, Petrus Tragus will be removed as captain and I will appoint a new captain in his place. I will also insist that said new captain replace the majority of the players on the team. Anything short of a playoff berth in our second World Baseball Classic is utterly unacceptable and the people of my Kingdom can rest assured that there will be serious repercussions if they perform even remotely as badly as they performed last time." - King Paulus XV

As Petrus Tragus prepared his team for the World Baseball Classic, the Kingdom of Saintland was shaken by the news of the arrest of Petrus Arminus. As the SP reported just 2 days ago, Arminus was discovered fornicating with a prostitute in a public restroom. The SP can confirm that Arminus received a speedy trial and was sentenced to a lengthy term in prison for his wickedness. The prostitute was sent to a Church institution to be reformed. Let's pray that she will some day repent of her sins and become a nun, for it is a shame for any soul to rot in the fires of Infernus. "I know that God was punishing the National Baseball Team during the last World Baseball Classic and the recent news that the former team captain was a fornicator who was patronizing ladies of the evening was alarming even to me. It shows just how deep that young man had fallen into the abyss of sin. If we shall repent of our sins and pray to God asking him to forgive our sins and heal our land, he shall do so, but the Kingdom's championship drought will continue if we do not repent of our sins." - Sister Maria Polus

There are a few changes to the Saintland National Baseball Team roster from the previous World Baseball Classic that was held just a few short months ago. Fans will notice that Royal Park's seating capacity has been increased, as Petrus Tragus requested that the fences be brought in to strengthen the Sanctii offense. As part of the goal of strengthening the Sanctii offense, Tragus decided to adopt the designated hitter rule, which is not used in the Kingdom, for Sanctii home games. This allowed the Sanctii captain to move Paulus Sittius, the great contact hitter whose speed and defense have become a liability, to designated hitter. That opens up right field for the immensely talented Petrus Iulus. Marcus Vagnius, a catcher known for his hitting prowess, has joined the team and will be the new starting catcher.

However, there are other changes besides those. Petrus Tragus decided to shake up the pitching staff, going with a 3-man rotation instead of the usual 4-man. This is a daring move, but it ensures that a powerful Sanctii pitcher will be on the mound every day and allows Ioannes Bebius to make 4 starts in the WBC, which Petrus Tragus hopes will result in certain wins. Marcus Laelius will now be a long reliever instead of the 4th starter, but Tragus has confirmed to the SP that Lelius will start the final game if the Sanctii have already clinched qualification. Alessandro Arius is another new addition to the Sanctii bullpen. He adds another element to the Sanctii pitching staff as a knuckleball pitcher. Although he is a middle reliever, he has shown the ability to pitch for long stretches. The best news of all for the Sanctii pitching staff is the news that the "Wild One" Josephus Oppius appears to finally be 100% again. Oppius was attacked by Petrus Arminus to start the infamous bench-clearing brawl and was visibly not the same afterwards. The 7-footer is known for his fastballs that routinely clock in excess of 100 miles per hour and his lack of control. When he is on form, he is a lights-out closer and he appears to be on form right now.

One of the more intriguing changes was the decision to drop Matthaeus Novius from the squad and go with Stephanus Neratius instead as the backup corner infielder. Novius is known for being a power hitter, but he is infamous for his constant strikeouts and his horrible batting average and on-base percentage. Neratius is built more like a top of the order hitter. His speed and focus on getting on base could prove invaluable as a pinch hitter, pinch runner or defensive replacement. Also joining the Sanctii at this WBC is Petrus Fannius. Fannius is a corner outfielder who may only be average defensively, but he is a great power hitter who still hits for a respectable average. One of the big decisions for Petrus Tragus was the decision to carry 23 players instead of 21, which Tragus believes will strengthen the team's depth.

In this World Baseball Classic, the 69th ranked Sanctii will open up on the road against 12th ranked Lycrabon. They will then visit 7th ranked Taeshan. This is a very unfavorable early draw that is likely to result in disaster. Then again, the Sanctii did start out against an unranked team that was so disorganized that they never even sent their roster to WBC headquarters. The Sanctii should have beaten them easily, but Arminus the incompetent found a way to get blown out by them. They were such a joke that they didn't even bother to enter this World Baseball Classic. After facing the top 2 ranked teams in this group on the road, the Sanctii will host 37th ranked Slembana. On the fourth day, they will travel to face 41st ranked Komodo Dragon and the Sanctii will host unranked Scandigrad on the fifth day of the WBC. Then, as usual in international sports competitions, the schedule will be flipped around and they will play the same 5 opponents again with home and away reversed. It is a tough schedule, which makes it even more unlikely that they will attain the lofty goals that our Great and Wise King Paulus XV has set for them.

Regardless, this reporter senses something different about this National Baseball Team. They seem to be more focused this time and their new captain appears to be determined to lead this talented team to glory. "Obviously, it would be nice to make it to the playoffs, even if we will have to visit Cassadaigua. Cassadaigua is basically what Feministvs Sanctvsterra wants to turn our Kingdom into. It is a country where men are second-class citizens. Recently, their best soccer players beat a bunch of second tier players from our World Cup side in the Swamp Soccer World Cup. Those men have been denied their rightful place on their nation's World Cup team because their country's leadership wants an all-female soccer team. Last I checked, women don't belong on the soccer pitch or the baseball diamond. Their rightful place is in the home and personally, I feel sorry for the men of Cassadaigua and I understand why an increasing number of them are turning to terrorism. However, terrorism is not the answer. The solution to the problem of inverted gender roles is Christianity, specifically the version offered by the Church of Saintland. I want to lead this team to Cassadaigua and inspire the men of that nation to embrace God's Plan. Last time around, Arminus was motivated by his own ego. This time around, we play for the greater glory of God and His Kingdom." - Petrus Tragus

The Wild Kards

Manager: Ricky Ledée, 47 years old, #33

Lineup: (Batting order, position, name, age, uni #, bat/throw, info)
1. 2B Ricky Hormuz, 33, #9, R/R; Lines balls everywhere and has base stealing down to a science. Horrid with the leather.
2. CF Aaron Aaron, 27, #44, R/R; Above average speed, above average glove, above average power. Gives solid stats all around, though the only really remarkable thing about him is the number of doubles he hits--he's led the KBL for four straight years, right from his rookie season.
3. RF Batl Skard, 30, #5, L/L; A great contact hitter who WILL make you pay if you hang something. Often uses his height to rob would-be homeruns over National Stadium's ridiculously short right-field wall.
4. LF Gale Wind, 21, #22, R/R; A Pegasus (who ties her wings to be fair; she can still jump higher than most people) with a cannon for a wing. Hits bombs consistently, but is decidedly average in clutch situations.
5. 1B Jeffery Snider, 32, #45, R/R; Would come up with any throw at first base on a team that didn't have Hormuz and Caster in the infield. Even so, he drastically helps reduce the effects of their horrid throws. Most clutch hitter on the team.
6. 3B Short Stop, 25, #68, L/L; An earth pony that darts around the field like he owns it. Snappy on the basepaths.
7. SS Starline Caster, 19, #13, R/R; A speedy and flamboyant young unicorn, Starline is equally likely to make that massively improbable game-saving play as he is to send an easy throw into the stands. He's managed to reign in his throws recently, but is still prone to the occasional horrendous error.
8. Pitcher (Jesse Portier if DH is being used)
9. C Geoff Jones, 27, #3, R/R; Leaves runners from both teams out to dry frequently.

Bench:
C Wellman Roberts, 29, #14, R/R
3B/DH Jesse Portier, 37, #54, L/L
SS/3B Laura O'Neil, 29, #6, R/R
OF Rock Smith, 36, #36, S/R
OF Alexi Alonso, 30, #87, L/L
UTIL Long-Hi Cho, 24, #1, S/R

Rotation:
P Casey Brant, 29, #4, R/R; Karditan's resident flamethrower. Slings a flaming fastball and slider (both hit 97 regularly; fastball can hit 100 at times) that look identical out of hand. Has a good changeup. Throws sidearm.
P Money Ball, 25, #65, L/L; A technical unicorn pitcher who specializes in deceptive breakers. Can throw anything that curves effectively and has developed a baffling upward-breaking Slurve.
P Cliff Leaper, 23, #31, L/L; The nation's foremost Pegasus pitcher. Jams righties with a hard cutter and has a dirty slider that can get batters on both sides whiffing.
P Scott Kasmeer, 32, #19, L/L; Takes the mount with a horse mentality; he can toss 130 pitches without much strain. Good rising heat, good dropping change, good bite to his overhead curve.

Bullpen:
LR Firmer Delmar, 30, #27, L/L
LR Manny D'aquisto, 20, #7, R/R
MR, Hessafa Merana, 23, #96, R/R
MR, Pedro Feliciaro, 33, #39, L/L (Lefty Specialist, throws sidearm)
MR Miles Cagle, 24, #99, R/R
SU, Brad Chadford, 32, #53, R/R (Submarine)
CL, Jasmine Carr, 30, #74, R/R

Home Stadium: National Park in Neighpon. 40,000 Capacity. 415ft straight left, 430ft left-center, 435ft straight center, 370ft right-center, 290ft straight right.
