Hello! Are we going to do leadership changes yet again? It looks like it! Will they be more of a surprise this time? Perhaps! Have we already ruined certain things with the foreshadowing? Very possibly!

(The regular season was scorinated shortly before the WC92 rosters was finalized, hence Nancy Puyo-Sachar's omission. A few matchdays were written up during qualifiers. Then the proper...happened. So ICly this is before the qualifiers, except the university stuff, which is after. Don't think about it too hard.)

Matchday One

Trebuchet Cham are our defending champions. Led by Kayla Haugen, alongside Gabriel Lapierre and (when she's not indisposed) Nancy Puyo-Sachar, they boast a dynamic, powerful midfield. And they will be visiting Canbix to get the season underway. The Muses are no slouches, mind you--they have Potz Gambor and Helen Pimbura and Nina Irving, and on the bench, Einvarður Adamsson. (Probably. When you get a job here it's usually a life sentence.) Moreover, this is a rematch of last season's finale--the Cabbas had already clinched, then, but won 3-2, causing the Muses to slip behind Eintracht Trink for third. So there's some bragging rights on the line.

This time around, though, everything went the hosts' way. It began with a Saebyeok Sisinis goal in the sixteenth minute, and featured some nifty Irving footwork near the end of the first half. She got away with a rough foul on Evan Dewey, and while halftime should have allowed the visitors to clear their heads, they instead got petulant and griped about even harmless things like Pimbura pacing her box. Emily Kuiper scored in minute 58, and Brianna Marva-Crest added on in stoppage time to, if only for the moment, send the Cabbas to the basement. Competitive balance!

Matchday Two

Ashley Fillmore-Gaul is burly, sulky, dour--and a revelation. For one, there's the whole business with her being a Ketrian. Some new religious movements' esoteric theologies confuse and frustrate outsiders (looking at you, DHA), but the Ketrians, like the so-called "Jedi," at least seem to understand there's something playful about cosmic spirituality. And while she may abide by the Second Law--"take no sentient life"--it doesn't stop her from getting physical against opponents. As surprising is that her teammates in Spenson, which isn't as traditionally bruising as Canbix, admire her for it! So when the Muses went out west, it was Fillmore-Gaul who matched Irving and Simon Gannett pound for pound in thwarting the attack. It might not have been the most attractive scoreless draw, but it was enough to dislodge Canbix from the top.

We didn't do a preview this season because there were hardly any transfers, but Martin "not a regen" Staunt-Anderson moved on to Cap Nord. And after many seasons at Advance Alara, it's a homecoming of sorts for Corey Richardson, known for keeping his demons at bay in the Cup of Harmony. Ephesian is as good a place as any for someone battling his own neuroses. If nothing else, they'll point out that there are ten other outfielders so he's not allowed to hog all the anxiety, true comrades share with the class.

Anyway, no matter what he's going through inside, his performance today made many fans in the capital happy, as he assisted Oscar Benitez and Josie McFenri in turn. Valerie Waugh scored the first goal of the season for visiting 102d, but Stephen Marcus' goal made it 3-1 for the capital side, and Ephesian are on top, having beaten the Bugs by two last week.

Matchday Three

It's time for a bitter central not-exactly-derby, with the Muses at home taking on Keppal Cosmos. With the Gannett--Irving defensive axis as physical as ever (Gannett brings the height, Irving the pace), the Cosmos seemed mostly worried about preventing themselves from getting injured. Between Zhou Mushonga (homeland recently engulfed in civil war), Ketevan Igreli (punched a chess clock too hard once), and Rosamund Kynes (anything that can go wrong will), you can't blame them for being cautious. The good news is they emerged unscathed today, and even scored via Sofya Turmal-Hence. The bad news is that Morris Consom-Avert and Kuiper's goals provided insult, in lieu of injury.

Ephesian FC, for their part, were visiting Sporting Esper, where the Hope City Herald has only recently caught up to the scandalous rumors involving Emeli Vilbertsdóttir's intimate familiarity with a trouser press. After first explaining to them what a trouser press is (we don't have many of them here, in part because we're really not that fashionable), and then that artificial intelligence is a thing and Sylestone's citizens are very diverse, and finally that it's probably all just a rumor, anyway, they appear to have returned to their usual guilelessness. Emeli, who despite not having to deal with the Snow Wolves' stressful qualification attempt (although this was probably before the qualifiers, in which case...who really knows) was clearly annoyed about having to go through this again, but she was able to keep the focus on the field where it belonged, scoring the only goal of the game against the capital side. So Canbix are back on top.

Matchday Four

Another day, another "I'm not Laura Petrell and I'm not here to win a zillion championships" from Cameron Raleigh in Arlington. To be fair, it's been...what, six seasons since City have won a title? They just had that aura when it was like, "nobody can beat them so we have to change the ranking system." You'd think at some point, the fans would be like, "we understand you don't plan to win a zillion championships, but you can try for one this season, right?" Even if they'll probably never reach the point where they fire him for his ineptitude, this is still Zwangzug. (Editor's note: this reads even more weirdly in light of, uh, international events.) But then, they might also get distracted and...oh jeez we've fallen behind on the Silicon Boot again, maybe they can go work on that and not worry about their club.

Anyway, the point is that a goal from Meldi'ita Mungwaii, who is 44 and still awesome, was all they needed to beat the Muses today. And that opened the door for Ephesian, who were hosting Rovers United. The Rovers had been off to a fine start, but Lukas Helsen-Roan's goal in minute 29 boosted the home fans' spirits, while Sonia Rodham-Yount added on two minutes after the restart.

Matchday Five

Another day, another...didn't we just do this? Mungwaii scores a goal that's basically an instant replay of the one he scored last week, only this time it's against Keppal instead of Canbix, which is...geographically almost the same thing. (Okay, not really.) Arlington have conceded two in five games and Raleigh has to repeat the act about "this is fine, everything's fine." He perhaps could have pointed out that Canbix have also conceded two (while scoring six, the same as Arlington), and are an entire half-point behind them, so who knows, right?

Anyway, things were much more freewheeling in the eastern FTC, where...I meant "high-scoring," okay, I'm looking for a synonym that means "high-scoring" without implying that games with more goals are necessarily more exciting, it's all subjective, but like, Wiktionary says that "freewheeling" really means "unbounded by rules or conventions, unrestrained," and that...is a pretty good synopsis of how things are when we're dealing with FTC United versus Ephesian FC. Kessarin Ratanarat got the Oxen off to a lead in the thirteenth minute, but Ephesian would equalize and then take the lead through Marcus and McFenri. After the half, the defensive pair of Pia Leykauf and Catarina Malmquist were able to settle down and hold off the onslaught, and Malmquist scored against the run of play around the hour mark to tie the game for the FTC. Benitez had a couple chances denied by offsides and the goalposts, but it didn't faze the Oxen, and Toni Paolis scored in minute 81 to give the hosts the lead once more. Only for a fluky chance to fall to Richardson's feet, and he booted it in for the high-scoring draw. (To be fair, these are about the only kind of goals Richardson seems to score.)

I know, I know, we're focusing on the leadership changes because we don't really have the energy to do everything else, but we can't overlook the fact that Valerie Waugh scored a hat trick to pace 102d to a 5-1 victory. Over Cham. Who are 0-0-5. If I were Nancy Puyo-Sachar I'd probably be looking for something to take my mind off football, just saying.

Matchday Six

Arlington return home to face Bassabook, who jump out to an early lead via Rory Asmoce and Chelsea Lotharn. Tabitha Kridel's header puts City on the board after the break, but it seems to have rattled her skull more than usual and she's substituted out following concussion protocols while Raleigh plays it cool. Tutilo Rimbert adds a third goal for Bassabook in minute 72.

And our new leaders are...Spenson Suburbia, after Jordan McKinney's twenty-ninth minute chip was enough to hold off 102d. (Waugh must be wishing she could have held onto some of those goals from last week, but to be fair, you might expect to need plenty to beat the Cabbas.) Fillmore-Gaul had no patience for the reporter who cheekily inquired whether divine intervention was to credit: "Just because the deities love games doesn't mean they interfere in ours. For one, they wouldn't waste their limited capabilities to interfere on something that doesn't impact the fate of the cosmos, and for another, it'd be pretty boring not to have any free will or be able to celebrate our own achievements." So there.

(Cham did actually win a game, with Wolfgang "look at all my consonants" Tzwyvel's goal defeating the Robins.)

Matchday Seven

Sporting Esper, miffed about the, uh, indignities of losing to the underwhelming champions, return home with a chip on their shoulder, and jump out to an early lead through Rafe Muir-Ingor. Arnkatla Janssen-Ro had several strong chances later in the half, but Fillmore-Gaul and her chirpier Spenson teammates denied them, and were rewarded with an equalizer from Luo Chuan.

So the suburbians fall to second on goal difference, and once again, we must turn our attention to Arlington...in particular, on their trip to Twineur, where the Bugs were challenging for relevance once again. Jeanne Veaux-McOrt got them off to a fast-paced start in the twelfth minute, and Mickey Eldo-Matti added on with a booming shot four minutes later. Harper Norwich (the Arlington goalkeeper who's been around for a while now, we're not entirely sure if we can keep getting away with this ad hoc aging system, but as long as Mungwaii is still around nobody gets to point fingers at anyone else) looked rattled, but quickly snapped into hyperanalytical mode and just about kept pace with the extremely pacy Bugs for the remaining seventy-four-ish minutes. There were things to admire about Cynthia Fairfax-Hazy's comparatively grounded approach, too. But when the whistle sounded, it was Twineur who had secured their league-leading fifth win.

Also, yeah, I know, we're not doing this, but look at Inver:

(Quincy Dulk-Fough 40 and 90+3; Lapierre 14, Haugen 27 and 51 and 72, Fritz Luckhaus 36, Ronald Vandereck 61, Tzwyvel 70, Dewey 90+6)

Rovers United two, Trebuchet Cham eight. Football!!!

Matchday Eight

From Inver, the Rovers have a relatively short trip to Spenson, where, undeterred, Bev Greensboro scores the only goal of the game to defeat Spenson. That means the suburbians wind up in third, as part of a four-way logjam at the top.

Behind them are Twineur, who came out the worse in a freewheeling exciting and high-scoring (but not to the extent of the Inver game last week) game in Bassabook. In the first half, Rimbert scored a brace for the hosts, while Eldo-Matti and Janine Duron-Helzan kept the visitors level. After halftime, Aimee Ginoud-Sachs gave Twineur their only lead of the day, but it was quickly cancelled out by Heidi Elchanan, and Kelly Dervi-Raish' 74th-minute goal proved to be the winner for the hosts. Rimbert completed the hat trick in stoppage time.

For the leaders, we turn to the bitter center, where Canbix and Sporting Esper played out a quiet scoreless draw, notable mostly for the fact that Pimbura was pressed into making a couple more acrobatic saves than is her wont. In nearby Egalia District, Keppal and Ephesian's first half had the makings of a loud scoreless draw, with Ephesian--as usual--dominating midfield possession but being stymied by a hyperactive Igreli. The visitors finally made their advantage count in the second half, when Benitez gave them a slim lead.

The upshot: Canbix and Ephesian (who don't play each other until Matchday 13) are tied on five points and +5 GD. Spenson and Twineur are tied with them, both on +2 GD, with Spenson leading on head-to-head from MD5. And also the next five teams are all on 4.5 points. It's early. And/or competitive balance has gone too far.

Matchday Ten

The previous week did nothing to separate the Muses and Ephesian, as each won by a single goal, from Sisinis and McFenri, in Irco District and Zwischen, against the Rovers and Namiri Independent, respectively^3. (Irco District is in the far northwest, and is the home of Neume College, from whence Julia MacEacharna and her magnificent tenor saxophone.)

So this week, Ephesian decided to assert themselves most emphatically. To be fair, Independent were abysmal last season, so winning by just one might have been disappointing. But Slogda have been abysmal for several seasons, and when Ephesian went down to Craton, it was with an agenda in mind. Helsen-Roan started things off in the fifth minute, assisted by the mercurial Richardson. Surly Jesse McWhorter, who has had to badger local referees with his jabbering since being cut from the national team, came forward to add on eleven minutes later, and Rodham-Yount made it 3-0 by minute 30. After the half, the visitors continued to try making their mark, but either they were tired or Slogda remembered how to play defense, because Ephesian were limited to a goal from Thalia Strave-Carp.

That actually turned out to be plenty more than they needed to pull ahead of the Muses, thanks to a goal from Paolis that saw FTC United win in Canbix. But considering how close things have been, Ephesian will take the breathing room.

Matchday Seventeen

Okay, so, Ephesian actually had a nice little streak up there for a while. But while Valerie Waugh may not get much support from her teammates at 102d, she knows how to make the most of what she does get. After being caught offsides a couple times, she scored two poachers' goals in the second half. It can take a while to readjust to offsides tactics when playing Ephesian. I wrote this paragraph the day before the RLStates WC began, this is not an allusion to RLStates tactics.

That left room for...Eintracht Trink, whose surge to chase down the Cabbas last season was too little, too late. Out east in Logrove, they took on the Rovers, and while Nebenstimme have to be contented with where the table stands now, they'll be ruing missed opportunities after a late scramble let the Rovers snatch a half-point.

Ryota Imamura, who will soon be growing impatient as the national team's #26, got the nominal visitors started with a goal in the twelfth minute. The indefatigable Dulk-Fough equalized, but a Hideo Mieno header meant it was 2-1 Trink at halftime.

After the break, it was Hanna Suzuki once again making twisty curvy shots look easy, converting a pass from Yehuda Ben-Eli and extending Trink's lead. But after a Freda Tery-Wilf foul, Veasna Nop scored the penalty kick to pull the Rovers within one, and after some messy rebounds and bouncing around, Rowan Singh came up with a late goal that kept Trink nervously looking over their shoulders.

Matchday Nineteen

Trink play host to a Keppal side that don't provide much in the way of offense, and consequently, the hosts wind up controlling possession for much of the game. It's almost an Ephesian-like performance, except that Ephesian are more deliberate about grinding it out in the midfield and Trink rely on more virtuoso individualism to link up Tery-Wilf at the back and Imamura at the front. But the upshot is that--much like Ephesian--they have no match for Keppal's Igreli, and all the possession in the world doesn't mean you can score.

So Ephesian have a chance to reclaim their lead, and for that, we head down to Kindtown in Jeatt District (very pro-Zwischen and pro-Consolidation when the state was young), where the Rovers had the (mis)fortune of playing kingmaker once again. This was a game with plenty of short-lived leads, beginning with the visitors' in the eleventh after some fancy dribbling from Marcus. The Rovers equalized through Sheila Harber-Kun, and then Nop gave them a lead that lasted for like twenty whole minutes, fifteen of which were the halftime break.

Marcus was dinged in a collision with Nikolaj Gehn-Miller, so the former was substituted off for Audrey Delano. She took some to find her footing, but after the break, assisted Benitez for the equalizer.

Around the hour mark, Dulk-Fough put in another perfunctory "look at me I still deign to show up in places like Kindtown even though I have international stuff to do and am real tired of the Narrative business" display, heading in a pass from the errant Gehn-Miller. And then Helsen-Roan, who's younger and more wide-eyed about "wow, I'm on the national team, let's give DiMarini something to see," did a cute backheel shot. 3-3.

The winner, when it came, followed a long string of passes beginning with Yang Tao in the backfield and weaving through the midfield, while the Rovers gamely tried to fall back and defend. But Ephesian wore them down, and it culminated in a Rodham-Yount tap in minute 83. This puts Ephesian eight goals ahead of Trink, but of course, we're not even two-thirds of the way through the season, and anything could still happen...

Matchday Twenty-Nine

We're the band from Zwischen, yes indeed! The self-deprecating but catchy accompaniment to the capital club's stretch at the top, as, in turn, Trink, Spenson, and Namiri Forest all tried and failed to chase them down. They're at home today and can clinch, so let's send it over to the capital.

12': Helsen-Roan taps it up to McFenri, who blasts it in. That's what the home crowd likes to see.
29': Jenna Kowalski once took a "well, if we're not going to be an absurdly consistent dynasty, why should I even be here" attitude towards Arlington City. But since being cut from the national team, she's seemingly evolved into a "well, as long as I'm stuck here, better make us a dynasty again" sort of player. Which isn't the easiest to do from defense, but she comes up with a long pass to Joiya McTarrell for the equalizer.
38': And just like that, the enduring Eel is excelling again! Mungwaii with the right-footed shot, and Arlington lead 2-1.
Halftime: I mean, some teams would double down and try to chase the win here by switching to more attacking tactics, but...there's not really such a thing as "more attacking tactics" when you start with Ephesian.
54': Gloria Streeves, a rookie Ephesian midfielder (and, in Brevity style, we should note she's also a decent contralto), comes up big here, converting a Richardson free kick to tie things for the hosts.
57': Well that was, uh, short-lived. Chester Hildegard gets his feet to a characteristically bounding throw-in from Meredith Ryland, and Arlington are up 3-2.
Full time: So Ephesian do not in fact clinch today, as Raleigh's side defeat them aaaaaand alsogotopoftheleague.

I would say "nobody tell my editor," but I feel like it's going to be kind of hard to obscure the storyline at this point.

Matchday Thirty

Arlington get to play Namiri Independent at home, which lends a sense of inevitability to proceedings, despite the fact that Ephesian are by no means underdogs against Bassabook. Sure enough, Mungwaii scores in the ninth minute to take control, and Kridel's second-half goal provides insurance. After six seasons, Arlington are back on top. For my editor's sake, let's hope we don't have another Unión de Ciudagua on our hands. (Then again, considering what the national team is getting up to, maybe we do!)

A dispirited Ephesian side promptly followed by conceding two goals to Rimbert and Dervi-Raish of Bassabook. Marcus, who's been a welcome arrival for the capital side (along with the 1./ debut of the talented, but aging, Richardson), at least gave them something to get excited about with an 81st-minute goal, but the point was moot. Bassabook content themselves with the last IFCF slot.

Namiri Forest, who lost to Twineur, come fifth; Spenson get the best of a scrappy back-and-forth with Cham (who, as you may have heard, are ninth) to take fourth; and a goal from Imamura sees Eintracht Trink defeat 102d and round out the Champions' Cup places.

Cereal Cup

First Round

Trebuchet Cham 5–3 Ephesian FC
Eintracht Trink 4–2 Rovers United
Canbix Muses 2–1 Sporting Esper
Namiri Forest 0–1 102d Jr.s
Arlington City 1–2 FTC United
Spenson Suburbia 0–1 Keppal Cosmos
Bassabook Old Boys 0–2 Excelsior Slogda
Twineur Bugs 2–0 Namiri Independent

This would be about the time of the 8-2 debacle in Inver. It turns out that Trebuchet Cham can bring their goalscoring boots every once in a while, and good things come in...large multiples. The visitors actually took the lead via Oscar Benitez, but Wolfgang Tzwyvel had equalized by the twentieth minute, and Kayla Haugen gave the hosts the lead. Sonia Rodham-Yount scored in added time of the first half to tie things up, but momentum did not carry over; shortly after the restart, Gabriel Lapierre and Evan Dewey made it 4-2 to the Cabbas. Corey Richardson gave the visitors life with a long-range blast in minute 82, but Fritz Luckhaus crushed those hopes two minutes after the restart. Maybe Cham will have something to play for this season?

Every game ended in a win, to the delight of our schedulemakers. Valerie Waugh and Sofya Turmal-Hence provided the only goals in upset wins for 102d and Keppal, respectively. (Whose idea was it to have a Sofya and Sonia in the league at the same time? Bleeping hyphenated names.) And lo and behold, Slogda actually scored two whole goals! Theo Korta, the onetime baby Troll (editor's note: I'm confident this is not what young Trolleborgians are called), got to come forward for a rare goal, and Vyacheslav Zuev-Satz added on with a header at the hour mark.

Of course, Slogda aren't the perennial basement club du année; that would be Namiri Independent, who, um, failed to record an upset. Mickey Eldo-Matti and Kyle Jairo-Cibol scored for Twineur. The Bugs continued their fast-paced possession and tried to add on further, in part because that's just their ethos and in part because the Independent defense really looked that vulnerable.

Second Round

Trebuchet Cham 1–3 Eintracht Trink
Excelsior Slogda 0–3 Twineur Bugs
102d Jr.s 1–0 Canbix Muses
FTC United 0–0 Keppal Cosmos
Namiri Forest 1–0 Arlington City
Sporting Esper 1–1 Spenson Suburbia
Ephesian FC 2–2 Bassabook Old Boys
Rovers United 1–0 Namiri Independent

Cham and Trink face off in a rematch of last season's title race. This time, Nebenstimme were out for blood, and they got some in the opening fifteen minutes; Ryota Imamura scored off a pass from Hanna Suzuki, and more disconcertingly, Cham's Kayla Haugen was substituted out early after a collision. That said, she's probably just tired from international duty--Cham were well out of contention at this point so they could afford to have her miss a few league matches.

Anyway, Ronald Vandereck equalized for Cham, only for Masaru Yanai to quickly restore Trink's lead. Suzuki's attempts in highlight-reel goals fizzled out or were intercepted by Grete Faucell-Jin, but Trink would score a more prosaic goal through Henjo Karoli.

Slogda's "reward" for their victory was getting to host a high-spirited Bugs side, and that proved dangerous as Jeanne Veaux-McOrt quickly gave the hosts the lead. Aimee Ginoud-Sachs had some unhelpful tackles and shots way out of play, and an irritated Sylvie Quarl pulled her for the more taciturn Rick Snodd. (He's not a fast runner and not even a hyphenated name, so you can tell they were desperate.) Sure enough, the lumbering Snodd didn't get on the highlight reel, instead taking a more defensive midfield position. But Twineur were able to settle down with some no-nonsense passes, and were rewarded with a flukish goal from Dylan Vear-Schul. Allison Vasil-Irtch added a more traditional lightning-speed shot in stoppage time. It's a shutout for John Boomhower, the fan favorite goalie from Tikariot.

Waugh scored the only goal for 102d against Canbix, while Pia Leykauf and Catarina Malmquist used their defensive prowess for another shutout in a scoreless draw on the east side.

Third Round

Twineur Bugs 4–3 Eintracht Trink
Keppal Cosmos 1–0 102d Jr.s
Canbix Muses 0–0 FTC United
Trebuchet Cham 2–0 Namiri Forest
Rovers United 0–2 Excelsior Slogda
Spenson Suburbia 3–3 Bassabook Old Boys
Sporting Esper 4–4 Ephesian FC
Namiri Independent 0–2 Arlington City

Twineur return home to face Trink, and get things started with a bang, as Jairo-Cibol scores in the twelfth minute and Jeanne Veaux-McOrt makes it two almost right from the restart. Not to be content with that, Jonathan McAvery had given the Bugs a 3-0 lead by the half-hour mark. With Trink's league campaign reaching its last push around this point, the three-quarters mark of the regular season, you could forgive them for throwing their hands up and playing the kids. Not so fast! Or, rather, if you're Twineur...so fast? Um, the point is, Vandereck and Tzwyvel scored within the next ten minutes to make it a rollicking 3-2 at halftime.

The second half was less dramatic, though not for lack of trying on the part of the ebullient hosts. Finally, in minute 78, Hideo Mieno equalized past the stoic Boomhower. But eight minutes later, Veaux-McOrt scored again. The upshot: a 4-3 victory for Twineur, putting them in the conductors' seat for the finale. They'll face Keppal, who defeated 102d behind a goal from Zhou Mushonga. Keppal will have home advantage, however, because of *waves hand nebulously* reasons. I could write down and codify how I do this but honestly I think it introduces more verisimilitude to just have it be run by a cabal of Casaran experts who forget to pass on their institutional knowledge and leave their successors guessing between a handful of different procedures every season. Life is full of pleasant chaos sometimes.

Fourth Round

Keppal Cosmos 1–1 Twineur Bugs
Eintracht Trink 4–2 102d Jr.s
FTC United 0–1 Trebuchet Cham
Excelsior Slogda 1–0 Canbix Muses
Arlington City 1–0 Spenson Suburbia
Namiri Forest 3–5 Sporting Esper
Bassabook Old Boys 3–4 Rovers United
Ephesian FC 3–3 Namiri Independent

Twineur only need a draw to clinch, and considering they're not in IFCF contention they do sort of care about this. So they play awkwardly, holding back, while Keppal push forward. After the half, Jasna McUrsen scored for Keppal, and things got much livelier as Twineur were able to play their own game--say what you will about two goals being the most dangerous lead (which still, by the way, doesn't make any sense). Anyway, Ginoud-Sachs equalized in minute 69 (yep), and the Bugs held on to clinch. Actually it's their second Cereal Cup in three seasons, they won two seasons ago but the Rovers took the VCI spot that time.

A fun fact about Lanius University (home of the Magpies) is that it is located in Pajit, which is located in Eenshir District. It was founded by the old-timey rail magnate Benjamin Lanius, whose family is still locally prominent if not as wealthy anymore. Distant descendant Gabi Lanius-Sexton played for Cham and the national team in CoH 74. And that is definitely why that name has shown up more than once. Someday our new wiki will come back from the war :/ Another fun faczt is that using the university results to determine an all-star team kinda sort but not really justifies the effort of tweaking the style mods every time.

The Federation of Savigliano Football regrets to inform our fans, partners, and players that the tenth season of the SavigLega has been suspended due to irreconcilable logistical challenges. We will continue the league when it is possible; as only twenty-one of the thirty-six scheduled matchweeks have been completed, we will not consider these results in the selection of IFCF or CAFA qualifiers. In lieu of the current season's results, we will be submitting IFCF qualifiers from the ninth season of SavigLega to compete in the next iteration of international and regional play. Due to the same logistical challenges, we regret to announce that we also will not be sending a team to the fifth CAFA Cup. We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope to see you on the pitch again soon.

Nestled in the hills above the city, one of the most picturesque venues in the country. Slowly being expanded and renovated, this completed phase means one end is comically larger than the rest of the stadium.

BAN THIS SICK FILTH NOW!
Dylan legacy in SHAMBLES over "autopen" controversy!!!

It was the FAIRYTALE STORY of the year, as little fancied Fliserboding from the impoverished south west, led by WORKING CLASS HERO Roberto Dylan Leoz Muñoz, made a title run as the Græntfjaller Premier League, still reeling from last year's IFCF ban over SPECULATIVE and UNFOUNDED claims of SO-CALLED """RACISM""", """""BIGOTRY""""" and """"""ISLAMOPHOBIA""""""", tries to return to the limelight. But now DAMNING evidence has emerged that the VERDEAN FRAUD Roberto Dylan used an "autopen" to take the key penalty that won the Locusts their first ever GPL title.

According to KG officials the controversy throws the entire season's results into jeopardy and risks a REPEAT of last season's absence from IFCF events. "We cannot submit ourselves to international competition if we are lacking true 'sporting merit', and the use of the autopen throws into doubt these results," warned KG spokeswoman Dagrún Nikolasardóttir. "This will be bitterly disappointing to the literally ones of fans of the GPL but we may be facing another season with no results submitted for IFCF entry."

Roberto Dylan himself was defiant in the face of the criticism, saying he only used the autopen after suffering a bout of vertigo. But the enigmatic right wing-back whose attacking play, stylish long range goals, and precise set-piece kicks, have led the SOARING resurgence of the Locusts, now faces scrutiny over whether he has used the autopen in other games. "Don't criticize what you can't understand," he said as he left the Fliserboding training facility and tripped over a rotting cabbage.

The inaugural season of the newly rebranded Cima Liga had been something of a success. Attendances, both in stadia and watching on television or online, were up across the board. At home, at least. But the higher ups at the Football Federation had their greedy eyes on another audience too. The foreign audience. There had been a void in the non-Pasargan parts of northwest Rushmore, ever since the CMSC had quietly exited stage right. Perhaps the denizens of the Candelarias would like another competition to enjoy? Perhaps watching Banks lift their fifty seventh title in a row no longer appealed to the football watching public of West Zirconia? National broadcasters providing television for Nethertopians, Pocoans, maybe even Polarians perhaps could be enticed to stump up for a highlights package at least.

Colin Griffiths alone should stir up a little interest in the archipelago to the southeast. He’s not the offspring of Candelariasian parents who’d been seeking a better life in Sargossa. He’s born and raised in Caires, as Candelariasian as turnip pie, and he’s been tearing up the league in the colours of Ciudad Soluca. Seventeen goals from his midfield position, another four in the cup, represented a very healthy personal season. Remco de Jong, the suspiciously Nethertopian anchor man at the heart of El Nacional’s side, also played a starring role as the season progressed. As did centreback Robbert Goudmijn, his compatriot at Sportivo Soluca. Some little hooks for the wider Oygruppen populace to latch on to. Although the boys at the Federation would also have been hoping that another year of compelling competition would be hook enough.

Unfortunately the competition was a little way short of compelling, thanks to a dominating season from El Nacional. Last season Jesús Lombán got the chop for failing to get the best out of what many considered to be the most talented squad in the league. A big name was expected to replace him. Instead Eric Alonso, Lombán’s former assistant, was promoted to the big chair. A seemingly uninspiring choice soon became a very inspired selection. From front to back the side from Goza were magnificent, winning thirty of their thirty-eight league games. Jacobo Robles was peerless in goal. Francisco Jesús and Joaquín Sanz were rock solid in front of him. As was de Jong in front of them. But it was up front where the Gozans were simply frightening. On the right Pablo Alarcón weighed in with sixteen goals, on the left Carlos Alberto hit twenty two and through the centre Luis Recoba rattled in twenty nine. El Nacional blew everyone away, winning the league with a nine-point cushion. A final day win in the Goza city derby was the cherry upon a sizable cake.

Behind them the two capital giants were left duking it out for second place. Sportivo Soluca looked to have that particular race won, until a slip up away to Nuevo Onwere in the penultimate round of matches. Julio Benítez, spending a second year on loan from Ciudad Soluca, hit a late equaliser for Nuevo which allowed his parent club to leapfrog their city rivals. A position they consolidated with a comfortable home win over Dunas Del Sol in Soluca. Teodoro Ortega, Gonzalo Navarro and Jeremías Saavedra hitting the goals as Ciudad secured second place.

Fortuntely, the introduction of those precious international club competition slots did at least create some final day tension for the neutrals. And the fixture calendar played its part too, pitting challengers Alianza Jucaro and Sportivo Cordova against each other on the final day. In the quintessential game of two halves veteran striker Rubén Caínzos gave Alianza the half time lead. But Sportivo came roaring back in the second half. Víctor González restored parity at the Bonilla Arena but a point wouldn’t be good enough for Sportivo. They threw everything at the Alianza defence but a man-of-the-match performance from Santiago Álvarez helped the home side to the point they needed for Challengers Cup qualification. Capping some kind of vindication for former national coach Alejandro Echeverría in his first year in Jucaro.

There would be no final day drama at the foot of the table either, with the relegation places already decided. Estudientes Soluca, last season’s Desafía Liga champions, had enough in the bank to survive a last day loss to fellow promoted side Cienfuegos S.C. Cienfuegos and second tier runners up Atlético Almansa showed the gap between leagues to be hard to ford as they both made an immediate return to the Desafía Liga. Where they’d be joined by Racing Soluca, who suffered a dreadful campaign.

Much like in the league above, the big news had already been decided in the Desafía Liga. Both Piratas De Ariaco and S.C. Motril would be promoted. It just remained to be seen who would take the title. The Azulan side, relegated last season from the Cima Liga, faced a tough trip to Porto Alegro while Motril had the far more presentable offering of a home game with already relegated Atlético Ensenada. Piratas duly lost to a José Guirado brace but in Motril the home side couldn’t take advantage, going down to a Jaime Vázquez strike for Atlético. So Piratas won the title and an immediate return to the top flight, S.C. Motril stayed in second and Porto Alegro Azul improved their playoff draw by jumping into third. Biggest losers of the day were Racing Ibarra, who dropped out of the playoff reckoning on the final day after defeat to midtable Vista. On loan duo Marcos García and José Ramón Martínez scored the goals in Huaral that broke Ibarran hearts. Cartago Rojo swept ahead of them. El Nacional loanee Rubén Reyes was among the goals for Cartago, another club that has made liberal use of the loan market, against Atlético Cordova. At the other end of the table the three clubs promoted from last season’s Unida Liga all dropped back down through the trapdoor.

In the playoffs Cartago Rojo’s late momentum carried them through against the much more favoured Porto Alegro Azul, Reyes popping up with another crucial goal to decide the game in Porto Alegro. While, in the other tie, Ciudad De Oro came through 4 – 3 against Machala Del Norte. Where the semis were cagey the final was far from it. A 2 – 0 home win, José Juan Moreno and Reyes again with the goals, set the Rojo on their way. And in the return in Xinzó the hosts simply collapsed, as Richard Muñoz and Moreno completed a 4 – 0 aggregate victory. A devastating blow to Ciudad De Oro who must now deal with a second successive playoff final defeat.

In the cup, for the second season running, a second-tier side made it through to the quarter finals. Although Machala Del Norte were then roundly battered by holders Sportivo Soluca. Sporting San Marquez suffered a tame defeat to Ciudad. Estrella Torreón edged past Club De Camíri. But the big story came in Goza where, after a goalless drew in Cordova, a magnificent backs to the wall performance from Sportivo Cordova, coupled with an opportunistic goal from Diego Ramírez saw El Nacional dumped out. The side from Cordova found Ciudad a much tougher test in the semis. And Sportivo Soluca’s win over Estrella in the other semi set up a capital derby in the final. The Estadio Generalissimo Joaquín Delgado was unsurprisingly packed for the duel. Agustín Soria gave holders Sportivo the lead before Colin Griffiths levelled for a profligate Ciudad, with what would be their only shot on target. A second half bullet header from Eliseo Fonseca settled the matter and saw Sportivo retain their crown.

This season also saw Sargossan clubs return to international competition after a couple of decades in the wilderness. Not a lot was expected but the nation’s representatives found their collective feet with some solid performances. An uncharacteristically raucous crowd at the Estadio Generalissimo Joaquín Delgado helped Ciudad Soluca overturn a one goal deficit to beat Astena Rangers of Atheara in the first round of the Champions League. Before a battling defeat to Yuezhou’s SC Jiangdong one round later. The EGJD proved a potent weapon for Sportivo too, in their upset win over the Dagans of Concord Heights City. While Pablo Alarcón scored the only goal of the tie as El Nacional edged past Pesjem Jematang of Pemecutan. Both their respective runs would end in the next round but the return to international competitions was a ratings hit up and down the nation. As was Ciudad’s performances in the Copa de Campeones. Particularly well received was the Colin Griffiths goal that knocked Euran giants Spartangrad out in the first round, again the home tie proving crucial. As it was against Astograth’s Iturributa United, where a thrilling 4 – 2 win saw Ciudad into the semis. They took CA Paulinthal all the way to extra time but there would be no fairy-tale run to the final. Two extra time goals in Pasarga saw the hosts through for a date with AFC Treason in the final.

Sylestone (SYL) Qualifiers
Champions League: Capitol Athletic*
Challengers Cup: Pesfield Trees, Betham FC, AFC Droves
Liga B Champions Trophy: Dunkirk Athletic, Halpenley United, Western Avondale
Cup Winners' Cup: Mid-Capital
Rising Stars Cup: Betham FC U19**

CEdC: Capitol Athletic*, Mid-Capital

* Capitol Athletic was previously known as Capital FC
** Although the Potty League is U21, I believe I cleared with an IFCF member that as long as the U19 team is sent to the RSC this should fall within the rules.

Sylestone (SYL) final site bids
CEdC: Chamberley Institute of Sport, Chamberley (capacity 109,300)
With a capacity of over 100,000, the Chamberley Institute of Sport is the largest sporting arena in Sylestone, conveniently located in the nation's most populous city. Chamberley is surrounded by the Melville Rainforest, where there is an endless supply of beauty, although this does often bring unpredictable, wild weather. Off the coast are reefs, some of which you can take a day trip to and do not forget the amazing Felton Island, where players and fans can meet the wonders of the tropics face-to-face. It is well worth a visit in your spare time, if you have any.
Football: WC94 Qualifiers, CE35&36 semifinalists
Cricket: GCF WT20 XVI champions, ODI WT II semifinalists, GCF WT20 XV semifinalists, EspoT20 I&II champions
BoF 74, CoH 78, CoH 81, GCF WT20 XV, HWC 24, EspoT20 I&III
