1 Armoury Ave., Central & Northern, Riverfort, Nacrad Capital Territories, Nacrad
To whom it may concern,

We have learnt lately that the esteemed Republic of Ameria and Stannenbourg is looking to commission a new tank. We believe that the Type 7 Main Battle Tank, in service with the Nacradian Armed Forces since 2011, may suit your needs.

However, we regret to inform you that our current design uses a 127 milimeter main cannon as the main armament, which does not meet your requirement of 140 mm. Nonetheless, we believe that the design fits your other requirements well. Below is a detailed list of its specifications.

Operating mass: 62,000 kg (carrying full armour and ammunition), 59,000 kg (normal combat load)
    Length: 6.80 m (hull); 8.00 m (gun forward)
    Width: 3.50 m
    Height: 3.00 m
Main armament: Type 15 Main Gun, 120 mm caliber smoothbore
Secondary armament(s): 2x Type 4 Medium Machine Gun (caliber 7.62x51mm NATO), 1x Type 2 Heavy Machine Gun (caliber .50 BMG)
Armour: Composite armour, explosive reactive armour, non-explosive reactive armour, (optional) depleted uranium
    Powerplant: 1x PAA T-135D V12 18.3 liter twin-turbo diesel engine, maximum power 1,250 kW (1,676 hp) @ 2,500 rpm; maximum torque 2,250 N m (1,659 lb ft) @ 1,400 rpm
Fuel capacity: 1,500 liters (unmodified), 2,200 liters (with external fuel tank add-on)
Range (road): 470 km (unmodified); 690 km (with external fuel tank add-on)
Range (cross country): 300 km/410 km
    Suspension: Hydropneumatic suspension
    Maximum speed: 75 km/h
Crew: 4; Driver, Gunner, Loader, Commander

The Type 7 Main Battle Tank is a Nacradian alteration on the M60 Patton Tank, which was introduced as the Type 4 Main Battle Tank in 1977. After numerous generations of alterations, it currently is an effective contender to most major tanks in the world, as it has received numerous armour upgrades, armament upgrades, and, as part of the Modernisation Scheme of the 2000s, a complete rebuild of the mechanical parts. In order to ensure crew comfort during the sweltering Nacradian summer, it is reputed as the first main battle tank to feature air conditioning. In addition, on top of the already well-reputed gun stabilisation systems, it has received a computer system that assists in target acquisition, rangefinding, and positioning. With these upgrades, it can certainly be said to have outdone its grandfather. It has been well-acclaimed among troops of Nacrad and allies, though some complain that the interior may be too cramped.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,
Jamie M. Chan
Secretary of the Ministry of Defence

From: International Offices of WURCo., New Krasnoyarsk, FRCP

Greetings, foreigners.

The Wassily Universal Rifling Company, hailing from the venerated Federal Republic of Cossack Peoples, has received word for your requirements and has chosen to submit the design of the Type 300 "Rostov" Main Battle Tank for your consideration.

While the "Rostov" does fall short of meeting the Amerian requirements for firepower, it should compensate as its munitions are advanced and its protection is formidable. Select details are listed below.

The Company believes you should truly know the extent of the advantages the Type 300 holds. That is, the firepower is superior to our other competitors, the protection is unparalleled, and due to the supremacy of Cossack industries, hosts better fire control systems and situational awareness.

The WURCo. Type 6 130mm gun can use the K53M1 APFSDS round, which has a 100mm steel tip which breaks off when disrupted by explosive reactive armor, allowing the far deadlier depleted uranium submunition penetrate the armor without the pestering of ERA. While it may not be a 140mm caliber round, the munitions we are willing to provide with the purchase of the Type 300 should more than change your mind.

Meanwhile, the crew of a "Rostov" MBT enjoy sitting in the environmentally conditioned, safest seats in the battlefield. The vehicle provides NBC protection against toxins, biological hazards, and nuclear threats (not including the blast, of course). The armor is of a composite, as you specify, but not just any-- it doubles as non-explosive reactive armor and composite armor with its construction of high-hardness steel, elastic filler, and ceramic tiles to give itself a frontal turret RHA estimate of 700mm against APFSDS rounds. The base armor of the Type 300 could be substantial enough to suffice, however the Cossacks do not stop there. Optional armor add-ons of a layer of composite and a unique electric reactive armor (eRA) system allow the Type 300 protection levels greater than any enemy vehicle can hope to penetrate; given that the projectile does not vaporize when the eRA's capacitor dumps its energy onto the projectile, the armor rating of the Preobrazhensky Armor Module on the frontal turret arc is ~1,800mm of RHA equivalency. But the Cossacks don't stop there. On top of that, an active protection system based off technology taken as a trophy from a war with a nation called Leonism allows the Type 300 an immunity against infantry-based or otherwise low-velocity anti-tank projectiles with the Spysa-APS. The Spysa combines soft and hard-kill countermeasures to break the locks of laser and infrared-based guidance systems, and when soft-kills fail, the system uses a laser-based hardkill system shamelessly stolen from Leonism to pump a beam of high-energy laser onto the incoming projectile, vaporizing or destroying its airframe.

Meanwhile, if you question whether one can trust the fire control system and other systems of a Cossack tank versus a Nacradian one, merely look here. Or here. So, if you want the most well protected tank on this side of the planet, you should go with WURCo. We rest our case.

Mass: 54.29 metric tons (without armor add-ons, estimate of 63 tons with maximum Preobrazhensky Armor)
Length:7.93 meters (9.99 gun forward)
Width: 3.55 meters
Height: 2.37 meters
Crew: 3 (Commander, Gunner, Driver)
Main Armament: WURCo. Type 6 130mm, equipped with K53M1 APFSDS and K01M2 HEAT. Hydraulic MO-739 autoloader.
Secondary Armament: 1 x commander's RWS 7.42mm machine gun, 1 x coaxial 20mm autocannon.
Protection: Armor (Steel, NERA, Probrazhensky Armor Modules), APS (Spysa-APS)
Powerplant: WURCo. HTD-45 gas-turbine, 1,530 hp. Includes auxiliary power unit.
Power/Weight: 30 hp/t
Range: 478 kilometers
Maximum Road Speed: 57 km/h
Ground Clearance: Maintains Cossack standard of 400mm (0.4m)
Suspension: Torsion bar

Subject: Tank Tender

Greetings,

My name is Eoghan Malv, I am the sales coordinator for the ACC Defence Division. We are constantly on the look out for potential tenders for our products, and we are excited to have reviewed your desired specifications for a new main battle tank, as we believe we have something that may fit many of your requirements rather well indeed. It is with our great pleasure that we submit our pedigree main battle tank, the FTA-02 Tarnus, for your consideration.

-FTA-02 CLES Tarnus
Image

Cost: $9,900,000

Overview
The pedigree MBT in service with the Astronean Armed Forces, the FTA-02 Tarnus boasts an unmatched level of armour and firepower. Previous iterations were equipped with rifled main cannons; however combat experience showing the ammunition used by such barrels inferior to their smoothbore equivalents, in addition to the shorter lifespan of a rifled barrel led to the development of the 120mm cannon now fitted to all FTA-02s since 2007. The 120mm has been the mainstay of the Astronean Republican Army's amour, however due to special export interest in higher calibers, ACC Defence designed a larger caliber 140mm smoothbore gun, with an upgraded fire control system to cope with the additional recoil and barrel pressure. This upgrade is designed FTA-02 CLES, Combat Lethality Enhancement Suite. It is manually loaded, bringing the total crew to four with driver, commander, gunner and loader.

With second generation Iontach composite ceramic armour, regenerative NBC protection, advanced Respar ERA, a specially adapted Aras-APS as well as the Derna electrical soft-kill APS suite, the FTA-02 has no equivalent in crew protection and survivability. Its secondary weapons include a coaxial mounted 12.7mm TMG-99, an RWS consisting of 40mm AG-96 AGL and 7.62mm KN-4 LMG and a crew operated 7.62 KN-3AO GPMG, giving it a high level of firepower for defeating infantry.

It has a new integrated weapon control and battlefield management system, which includes a gyrostabilised panoramic day/thermal sight for the commander and gyro stabilised day/thermal sight for the gunner, both with eyesafe laser rangefinder. This allows hunter/killer operations with a common engagement sequence. An optional servo-controlled overhead weapons platform can be slaved to the commander's sight to allow operation independent from the turret.

A DSR 1,500 hp (1,100 kW) Power Pack with a transversely mounted MKD-9040 diesel engine coupled to Kerel DTM automatic transmission. Air conditioning comes as standard, as does a cooling system and air-intake filtration system for the engine. An auxiliary power unit allows the tank's main turret and systems to function without the engine running, decreasing heat and noise emissions, resulting in quieter operations and a smaller heat signature, while simultaneously conserving fuel.

Protection:

The FTA-02 has several layers of redundancy in its design. Starting with the hull, the Tarnus is equipped with a comprehensive composite armour package known as Iontach. It second generation offers enhanced protection against HE, HEAT, and kinetic energy rounds. The armour is composed of ceramic tiles encased within a metal framework and bonded to a backing plate and several elastic layers. The ceramic armour is incredibly hard and brittle, which will shatter kinetic energy rounds.

The layered construction of the ceramic plates throws off the penetrating jet of tandem warheads, while internal rubber composites expand upon impact, effectively creating more armour through expansion and reducing penetration of incoming projectiles. Ceramic tiles themselves are made as small as possible and built into complex matrices heated and pressed together. This method greatly increases effectiveness against kinetic energy penetrators.

The materials used include various ceramics, including carbon nanotubes, boron carbide, syndite and titanium alloys, which result in extremely hard ceramic matrices that are both lightweight, extremely durable and resistant to corrosion. For hard armour, a tungsten alloy is implemented below the composite in the FTA-02 to increase protection even further. Iontach blocks are placed along the lower glacis of the tank's front armour to ensure crew protection is maximized during urban fighting.

The second layer of protection is the tank's mixture of Aramos applique armour, Melnik NERA (non-explosive reactive armour), Respar ERA (explosive reactive armour), Arkan spall lining and Keratin slat armour. These components are distributed throughout the tank's hull and turret, improving protection exponentially against RPGs, HEAT rounds, KE rounds and tandem warheads. A detailed breakdown of each armour component can be found below.

Composite bolt-on applique armour plating offering all-round rated protection up to 30mm APFSDS, adaptable to different scenarios. The construction consists of a splinter foil-like specialized nylon covering a layer of ceramic tiles (materials like aluminium oxide, silicon carbide and boron carbide may be used depending on the user's requirements). Aramos armour provides better coverage than ERA (up to 85–95% of the surface compared to 30–60%), can be mounted on vehicles with very limited base armour that would not sustain the blast of an ERA tile without damage and has a lower life-cycle cost. Under-hull applique armour can improve the vehicle’s ability to withstand minds and IEDs with up to 10kg of TNT.
Protection level: Up to 30mm APFSDS or AP at 500 m all-round, 10 kg (explosive mass) Blast AT Mine, 155 mm High Explosive at 10 m

Add-on cage armour designed to protect against rocket-propelled grenade attacks. The extremely lightweight aluminium cage armour is placed 50 cm ahead of the vehicle hull, which disrupts the shaped charge of an incoming warhead warhead by either crushing it, preventing optimal detonation from occurring, or by damaging the fuzing mechanism, preventing detonation outright.
Protection level: rated to increase protection against RPG and even HEAT rounds by up to 55-60%

Respar is an explosive reactive armour package made up of two armor plates that detonate in opposite directions on radar command just before a kinetic energy penetrator hits it, breaking the penetrator and reducing its effectiveness by 50%.
It also works effectively against tandem-charge rockets and ATGMs by having the initial shaped-charge detonated in advance by the first armor plate before it reaches the main armor and the second armor plate will defeat the main shaped charge.
Unlike predecessors, it works equally reliably against both low-velocity and high-velocity missiles, doubling protection against shaped charges and increasing anti-tank guided missile protection.
Protection: Increases anti-tank guided missile protection by 50 percent. Defends against tandem warheads and reduces penetration of APFSDS rounds by over 50 percent.

Melnik is a non-explosive reactive armour. Melnik operates similar to ERA, but without explosive lining, instead it uses an elastic interlayer (rubber) located between two metal plates (usually steel or aluminum). When impacted the rubber will compress to the point of maximum compression, until expanding again and bouncing back. This will move more material into the path of penetration and also shatter thin and fragile projectiles, such as the shaped charge jets created by high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) warheads commonly used on anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs). NERA works like explosive reactive armor, but with a lot less plate movement, as only reuses the energy from the impacting projectile, instead of using an external energy source (such as the detonation of an explosive layer) to move the metal plates.

While offering less protective in comparison to ERA, the non-explosive nature makes Melnik completely safe to handle and operate near infantry, and can be applied anywhere on the vehicle with no risk to the vehicle hull.
Protection level: Increases anti-tank guided missile protection by 35 percent. Defends against tandem warheads and reduces penetration of APFSDS rounds by 40 percent.

Arkan is an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene spall liner for the interior of vehicles, offering crew protection against kinetic shock waves, while also protecting against ballistic and fragmentation threats. The spall cone which is normally 87° can be reduced to only 17°. UHMWP has a 40% higher strength-to-weight ratio than aramid, making its application more practical and lightweight.
Protection: Rated against - kinetic energy: 14.5×114mm AP / B32 at 200 meters with 911 m/s, artillery: 155 mm High Explosive at 30 m

The third layer of protection is a suite of soft and hard kill active protection systems and sensors. These combined are designed to defeat both unguided and guided projectiles. Soft kill methods include obscuring the tank's thermal signature through the use of Rochek multi-spectral camouflage and the Olart Climate Control System. It also disrupts visual signature from guidance systems, as well as disrupt missile systems' guidance themselves through the use of the Holdart 40SMK smoke dispensers. By discharging infrared smoke, the FTA-02 is able to hide its infrared signature from missile systems and weapon operators and cause them to miss their target.

The Dera SK/APS is the system responsible for detecting incoming missile threats through its UV missile warning sensor and laser warning sensors. The Dera's computer will then implement pyrotechnic or electronic countermeasures to defeat the incoming threat. Hard kill methods are implemented via the FTA-02's Aras active protection system, which senses and destroys projectiles as they approach the tank. A list of the specific systems and their functions is once again listed below.

Dera is a soft-kill active protection system comprising three main elements: (1) warning sensors, using a UV missile warning sensor and laser warning sensors, which detect the incoming missile or laser beam directed at the target vehicle and report this to the (2) central computer of the Dera system. This in turn activates (3) electronic or pyrotechnic countermeasures, to defeat and confuse the threat, significantly reducing hit probability.
Dera weighs 65 to 160kg, depending on the equipment application, uses a combination of four sensors each covering an arc of 95×70 degrees, with a resolution of +/- 1.5 degrees, with an additional top-attack sensor for full spherical coverage.

The sensors employ UV missile launch signature and laser detectors. When a threat is detected, the system responds within 1 – 1.5 seconds activating a smoke screen or directing infrared jamming signal toward the launching platform. The system can be integrated with hard-kill systems such as the Aras APS. The laser detectors identify the direction of the threat and alert the crew via audio and visual warning.

The Dera warning system is based on a UV missile warning sensor and a laser warning sensor. Both are compactly contained in a single device (shown left) which makes integration into the turret fairly simple. As a result, it is also much easier to retrofit old vehicles. The missile warner was specially designed for use in ground vehicles for the detection of various anti-tank missiles, including semi-automatic, fire-and forget and beam-riders such as as well as unguided RPGs.
Features:
Detects all known lasers associated with anti-armour threats (up to 8 threats simultaneously).
Provides threat direction.
Provides voice audio warning to the crew.
Provides spectral band information.
Low false alarm rate, <1 in 24 hours, operational conditions.
Single pulse probability of intercept >95% in a single emitter environment.
Multi-pulse probability of intercept > 99% in a single emitter environment.
Stand-alone or integrated mode of operation.
Standard interface provided to battlefield management systems.
Redundancy due to multiple sensors.
Full range threat management option (standard with threat classification and optional identification and library linked prioritisation).
Large detection envelope counters peripheral laser techniques.
Unique anti-reflection capability that is extremely efficient in typical high-clutter land scenarios.
User definable threat library tools.
Laser training system compatible.

Aras is an active-protection suite that uses an AESA radar and can link with third party laser-warning devices to detect incoming warheads. Upon detection, a vertically launcher countermeasure missile is fired that detonates near or direct impacts the inbound threat, destroying it before it hits the vehicle. Its upward arch trajectory when launched reduces risks of injury to nearby friendly forces and non-combattants. In conjunction with radar input, a digital computer scans an arc around the tank for threats. The ballistic computer employs the information processed by the radar, including information such as flight parameters and velocity when engaging projectiles. The computer has a reaction time of 0.05 seconds and protects the vehicle over a 360-degree arc. The system engages targets within 50 metres (55 yd) of the vehicle it is defending, and the ammunition detonates at around 1.5 metres (1.6 yd) from the threat. It will engage any threat approaching the tank between the velocities of 70 metres per second (230 ft/s) and 700 metres per second (2,300 ft/s), and can detect false targets, such as outgoing projectiles, birds and small caliber bullets. Aras works during the day and night, and the lack of electromagnetic interference allows the system to be used by multiple vehicles as a team. The 27-volt system requires approximately one kilowatt of power, and weighs around 1,100 kilograms (2,400 lb). Aras increases a tank's probability of surviving a rocket-propelled grenade by between 1.5–2 times.
Protection level: 80% increase in overall survivability, 1.5-2 times survivability against RPGs.

Rochek is a type of mobile camouflage netting that simultaneously hides objects from visual detection as well as from other detection methods such as infrared, radar, and millimetre-wave radar imaging. It utilizes various camouflage materials applied spatially throughout the exterior of the vehicle The non-glossy and 3-dimensional structure obstructs visual detection and increases the vehicle’s ability to blend with surroundings. Options are available in different patterns and designs for different regions and environments. The design uses thermal-obstructing materials, providing protection against thermal detection and other systems such as heat-seeking missiles. Rochek also protects against radar reconnaissance, its material properties are effective against homing missiles in the range of 1-100 GHz.

Designed for warm weather climates, the Olart CCS is a climate control system designed to manage and reduce heat penetration of vehicles operating in hot environments such as deserts and tropical climates. By combining MSC camouflage systems with heat transfer reduction systems, Olart is able to protect personnel and systems from extreme temperatures. The combination of systems reduces the heat build up within armoured vehicles from solar loading and environmental heat while operating in hot climatic regions.

Through a combination of insulation and reflection of solar radiation, Olart CCS prevents the surface of the vehicle from heating up during the daytime solar cycle. Apart from reducing the internal temperature, the system also provides cooler surface areas, thereby facilitating work and personnel movement outside the vehicle. The Olart system can be incorporated into the Rochek MSC camouflage system. Olart is effective for improving efficiency of air-conditioning systems, reducing the required power supply, and cope with those periods when the air-conditioning system cannot be used.

The Holdar 40SMK is a unique 40mm smoke discharging system designed for visual and thermal obscurement/concealment of vehicles and friendly forces. Unlike conventional smoke screen systems which typically come with eight launchers per side, the Holdart can be distributed to any configuration as needed depending on the situation. It is able to create dynamic smoke screens as well as spontaneous, large-area and multispectral interruption of line of sight (LOS), by deploying individual charges from individual launch units, or all at once. Its multi-mission capability ensures defence against wave and swarm attacks. Due to its integrated IR jamming and decoying capabilities, the Holdart effectively counters all TV, EO, IR, IIR, laser and SACLOS-guided weapons.

The Holdart comprises a basic system with a control device for the commander/gunner and one to four 40SMK launchers per vehicle. This number can however be increased significantly depending on the available surface area of the vehicle. Each 40SMK launcher holds five smoke grenade charges, the ammunition and placement of which may be changed at will. By means of a one-click adapter, the system can be quickly mounted to the vehicle without tools, and just as quickly removed and stowed.

It is designed for small weapon stations and light vehicles, and is integrated directly into the vehicle without a surface-mounted launcher, thus making it undetectable. The Holdart can be integrated with Active Protection Suites and warning sensors to discharge IR jamming smoke whenever a threat is engaging the vehicle.

Sensors:
Besides the sensors interfaced with the various active protection systems on the FTA-02 CLES, there are a number of advanced imaging and sensing instruments that greatly enhance the Tarnus's combat awareness. In modern combat, the first to detect the enemy is the first to shoot, and the first to shoot is more often than not the victor. With that in mind, ACC Defence have designed and implemented the latest generation sensors to ensure that first hit probability. It features enhanced third generation imaging sights for commander, gunner and driver through the Iris III panoramic sight and Lupus-II back up gunner's sight. The Bowman ATLAS is able to detect audio threats such as the muzzle report from firearms and distant explosions, and pin point their direction and approximate distance from the FTA-02. Finally, the Orel IV SAS is a suite of cameras located on all four sides of the hull, giving the crew exceptional situational awareness. Detailed breakdowns of each system can be found below.

The 50x magnification on the gunner and commander sights give target classification at distances of up to 13 km, precise target identification at up to 10 km, and the secondary gunner sight has a detection range of up to 3 km.

The Iris III is a hunter-killer sight for the commander, which is independent of the gunner’s sight, allowing for improved situational and combat awareness of the vehicle. It features an independent third generation IRNV/FLIR optical camera, giving the commander 360-degree coverage and the ability to detect targets up to 7 km, and tank sized targets at over 10 km ranges. Its onboard laser designator/rangefinder is able to paint and range targets for the vehicle’s gunner and other friendly units, up to 20 km away.

The Lupus is a protected, turret-fixed backup sight which can access thermal-imaging cameras and laser-designators. It is enclosed against the weapon-station/turret of the vehicle, and retracts down into a protected “hull down” position when not in use. In the event of the vehicle’s gunner and/or commander sights being disabled, the Lupus can be accessed by both the gunner and commander independently or simultaneously to continue operating.

The Orel IV is a hull-mounted system of four external optical cameras, which are positioned either in a single telescopic mount protruding from the vehicle or mounted externally on each side of the vehicle hull. These sights give the crew 360-degree view of the tank, and can be viewed by the commander and gunner. These cameras provided excellent situational awareness, especially in urban environments where threats may lie in close proximity to the vehicle within presumed blind spots. With the Orel these blind spots are removed, and the crew can view real-time feeds from the SAS either independently or split onto the same display to show all four feeds at once. The Orel can be used to check proximity to friendly forces and non-combattants, reducing the risk of collateral damage, as well as for identifying potential hazards when navigating terrain, such as sudden drops or obstacles.

Battle management systems:

Battle management systems are an integral element of the modern battlespace. They comprise command and control systems as well as communication, navigation and coordination. Using sattelite systems and high speed data uplinks, units are effectively able to plan and organize on the move, as well as execute by-the-minute orders from commanders. Digital interfaces and displays give crews complete understanding of tactical situations, helping to offer a complete picture of the battlefield, including real time locations of friendly and enemy units. This level of high tech organization can mean the difference between a decisive victory and a frenzied rout. The implementation of the following systems help give FTA-02 crews the advantage on the battlefield.

Victor Battle Management (VBM):
The VBM system is a comprehensive battle management system comprised of a colour tactical map display which integrates with GPS to show the real-time position of the host-vehicle as well as that of friendly and hostile forces, including aircraft. It can be used for route mapping and mission planning. The VBM manages and updates the callsigns and identities of IFFs in the battlespace, as well as last known positions and statuses (PAC counts etc). The VBM also streamlines communications, allowing seamless coordination with radio communications and management of channels.

Tactical Information System:
The Tactical Information System is a command terminal which displays real-time map updates and allows the seamless transmitting and receiving of data between all linked units. Through the TIS, commanders are able to relay instant data to friendly forces, and on-board sensors which detect threats immediately update location and identification of threats, such as aircraft or incoming artillery. The TIS is able to access the camera feeds of authorized devices such as UAVs, targeting pods and other vehicles. It also shows the digitized information of graphic orders, route maps and the tactical situation, all between the vehicle and higher levels of command.

Armament:

The armament of the FTA-02 CLES has been heavily upgraded to incorporate the new A66 140mm smoothbore gun. With the new caliber, came the requirement to develop new munitions, and ACC Defence Division conducted extensive testing on its new family of 140mm tank rounds. Due to the larger barrel and caliber, new APFSDS rounds are significantly longer than their 120mm counterpart, resulting in much better penetration. Compared to the original 120mm smoothbore of the FTA-02, the A66 boasts a 70% more effective performance. Its rounds are higher velocity, higher pressure, and its HEAT shells feature higher explosive fillers, resulting in increased power. Due to the size of the 140mm rounds, 8 less shells can be carried in the hull than the 120mm, however they still retain the blowout panel storage which protects the crew from ammo cook offs. In addition to the increased punch, the range of these rounds has increased exponentially, from the 1,600 metre mark all the way out to 2,000 metres. It retains its magnesium alloy thermal sleeve, and implements a compressed air fume extraction system to help deal with the higher power ammunition.

The FTA-02 features a an advanced computerized fire control system and gyroscopic stabilization to ensure its ability to fire on the move with great accuracy. A muzzle reference system ensures the tank barrel's bend is measured and calibrated, ensuring the FTA-02's accuracy is retained through firing. Its systems of optics and sensors allow the gunner or commander to target up to six threats at once, and lead tracking automatically adjusts for targets on the move, making hitting fast moving targets much easier. The driver has three periscopes to ensure combat awareness is maintained.

The secondary coaxial machine gun mount can be fitted as a TGM-99 12.7mm heavy machine gun or KN-3T 7.62mm general purpose machine gun. An additional Remote Weapon System operated by the commander can house a 12.7mm, 7.62mm or a 40mm AG-96 automatic grenade launcher. A crew operated pintle mounted gun can also be affixed for defence against aircraft or infantry.

Caliber: 7.62x54/51mm
Weight 7.5kg
Barrel length: 605mm
Rate of fire: 650 rounds per minute
Muzzle velocity 825 metres per second
Effective firing range: 1,000 metres
Maximum firing range: 3,000 metres
Capacity: 100-200 round belts, 2,000 rounds

The KN-3T is a modified KN-3 7.62x54/51mm general purpose machine gun. It is adapted for mounting on coaxial positions of armoured vehicles. In this configuration the trigger assembly is replaced with an electric solenoid trigger, the bipod, carry handle and stock are removed and a heavier and longer barrel is used. Typically 250 round belts are used and the KN-3T fitted with a gas regulator.

The KN-3T has been mounted on main battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and armoured personnel carriers in various formats, both alongside the barrel and on top-mounted machine-gun positions above commander hatches. More modern systems integrate the KN-3T into remote-weapon systems with a remote-controlled 360° turret and a digital camera. In these configurations the KN-3T is an effective anti-infantry weapon, useful for fighting in urban environments.

It has an effective range of 1,000 metres (1,100 yd) and a maximum range of 3,000 metres (3,300 yd), its rate of fire is 650 RPM. The ammunition capacity is 2,000 rounds; 1,000 ready to fire and 1,000 in storage.

Image
Caliber: 12.7x100mm
Weight: 25.5kg
Barrel length: 1,700mm
Rate of fire: 650-750 rounds per minute
Muzzle velocity: 860 metres per second
Effective firing range: 1,700 metres
Maximum firing range 2,500 metres
Capacity: 50 round belts, 1000 rounds
------------------------------------------
The TMG-99 is a gas operated, air cooled, belt fed, automatic only weapon, firing the heavy 12.7x100mm cartridge. It uses a more or less conventional long stroke gas piston, located below the barrel which is locked using a rotary bolt with multiple lugs. The barrel is quick-detachable and is fitted with a highly effective muzzle brake. The TMG-99 is effective against infantry behind cover, light armoured vehicles and can even engage low-flying aircraft such as helicopters.

The belt feed uses the same steel, non-disintegrating belts as the TGM-76. The standard feed direction is from the right, but the TGM-99 can be setup to feed from the left if required. Spent cases are ejected forward through a short tube pinned to the right side of the receiver.

In its vehicle configuration, the TMG-99T is mounted and aligned along the primary weapon’s barrel, or as a crew-operated or remote operated RWS. It can carry up to 1,000 rounds.

Image
Caliber: 40x56mm
Weight: 18.0 kg
Barrel length: 415mm
Rate of fire: 120 RPM
Muzzle velocity: 1,000 m/s
Effective firing range: 4,000 metres
Maximum firing range 7,000 metres
Capacity: 50 round belts, 200 rounds
------------------------------------------
The 40mm automatic grenade launcher AG-96T is capable of being mounted as a crew-operated pintle, coaxial weapon or on a RWS on suitable vehicles. It uses a reliable blow-forward gas design and has a maximum range of 2500 m. It can carry up to 200 rounds in 50 round belts in its vehicle configuration.

Using the blow-forward design, gas pressure and the friction of the grenade traveling down the bore of the weapon drag the barrel of the weapon forward with the action, using enough energy to eject the spent casing, which exits from the bottom of the frame, and chamber a new round. The advantage of this system is that there are much fewer parts than other designs, resulting in a more compact and reliable system.

Fewer parts means less complicated, which means less chance of malfunctions. It also means it is more easy to carry and maneuver, being able to fit a longer barrel into a more compact space. The longer barrel results in greater range and accuracy, without impeding on the weight or mobility of the system.
The AG-96 uses closed-link disintegrating belt-fed grenades, loaded via a feed tray from the left side of the weapon.

Power pack:
The FTA-02 CLES features a heavily upgraded diesel engine and hydro-pneumatic suspension to ensure stability when moving on uneven terrain at speed. Improved air filtration, and common rail fuel injection, improved automatic transmission and cooling all ensure the power pack is able to run in even the most adverse conditions, while remaining as fuel efficient as possible.

The tank is also fitted with an Ostrech APU (Auxiliary Power Unit - also referred to as a GUE [Generating Unit Engine]) based around a 38 kW Ramus R6438 Diesel engine, with a 600 A electrical output which can be used to power the vehicle's electrical systems when it is stationary and the main engine is switched off. The use of an APU allows for reduced fuel consumption and lowers the audio and thermal signature of the vehicle. The tank's turret traversal has been upgraded to deal with the additional weight of the 140mm gun, increasing its speed, and a regenerative braking system allows the tank to generate and store power as needed.

Weight: 65 tonnes
Length: 8.3 m (27 ft 3 in), 13.50 m (44 ft 3 in) with gun forward
Width: 3.5 m (11 ft 6 in), 4.2 m (13 ft 9 in) with appliqué armour
Height: 2.49 m (8 ft 2 in)
Crew: 4 (commander, gunner, loader/operator, driver)
Armour: Level 2 Iontach ceramic composite armour, Aramos applique armour, Melnik NERA, Respar ERA, Keratin slat armour

Details:
The ‘Lamenter’, a joint project between Helsinki Arms and Nork-Kantara to develop and produce a large scale main battle tank run for the Amerian Ministry of Defense, with assistance and approval from the Nordic Ministry of Defense, is a 63 ton main battle tank armed with the HA-140-23A L/46 140mm tank gun, which is fed through a turret bustle autoloader holding 26 ready rounds without separations, in the signature Nordic ‘tunnel’ style, allowing a sustained reload of 6.4 seconds per round, or two rounds to be queued up to ‘double tap’ with a reload of only 4.1 seconds for the second round, as well as with a M240C in a double pin mount, with the Gunner having easy access to for both clearing jams and reloading, and fed by a box capable of holding 500 rounds, as well as a box able to hold 500 rounds worth of spent cases mounted under the M240C. The driver is mounted in the center of the hull, forwards of the turret, and using T bar style steering, along with a reclined seat position. To his left, separated from him by 15mm of steel plating, is a fuel tank that also functions as a wet ammo rack, holding up to 16 extra rounds to replenish the ready rounds. To his right, again separated from him by 15mm of steel plate, is another fuel tank, as well as the vehicles 2 cylinder APU towards the ‘outside’ of the vehicle, enabling the tank to charge its set of eight 36kg batteries without the added noise of the main engine. To the rear of the engine is the 12 cylinder HSDE-1200-IV, putting out 1200hp and flanked on either side by four of the batteries, all fixed in a powerpack mounting to allow for ease of maintenance and replacement. Moving down the tank more, the Lamenter uses hydropneumatic suspension, allowing the driver to control the tank and to make it ‘kneel’ both forwards, to either side, or to the rear, as well as to lower the overall profile of the vehicle, sitting on 28 double-mount road wheels, and using pin-and-center guide tracks with rubber pads, with the offer for side skirts being optional to the Ameria MoD, in the form of 65mm skirts for the fighting and crew compartment, as well as 8mm skirts for the engine compartment.

To: Victoria Frost, Defence Minister, The Republic of Ameria & Stannenbourg
From: SDI Ground Combat Systems

SDI Ground Combat Systems is writing to you that we are formally submitting our PzKfz 151 Tiger main battle tank to compete in your tank tender. The PzKfz 151 Tiger was designed to meet the requirements of the Arcaenian Army for a modern main battle tank and posses an ideal combination of firepower, protection, and mobility which exceed all Amerian Ministry of Defense requirements. Key features of the PzKfz 151 which elevate it above the competition include:

Large Caliber Firepower: With it's 155mm L/50 smoothbore gun the PzKfz 151 has a main armament system which is capable of defeating the frontal armor of virtually any armored fighting vehicle at all battlefield ranges. The SDI 155mm L/50 gun employs a novel metal-matrix (MMC) composite construction and includes a dynamic muzzle reference system with dynamically tuned shroud (DTS) that actively cancels out barrel vibration, giving the weapon excellent stationary and on-the-move firing accuracy. The SDI 155mm L/50 gun is intended to be used with SDI Ground Combat System's own suite of ultra-high pressure smoothbore ammunition including the AM83 APFSDS and AM31 programmable high explosive airburst (PABM) round.

SDI Third Generation FLIR technology: The PzKfz 151 employ's SDI third-generation dual band (MWIR and LWIR) FLIR imagers for its gunner and commander sights providing exceptional resolution and the ability to image through weather and through common battlefield obscurants. Dual MWIR (3-5 um) and LWIR (8-14 um) band detection capability is enhanced through sensor fusion algorithms with stitch MWIR and LWIR together to create an image with higher contrast and fidelity than either individual MWIR or LWIR image. The gunner and commander sights of the PzKfz 151 also include a color daylight imager, eye-safe holmium-doped YLF solid-state laser rangefinder with <1m range resolution out to 20 kilometers, and a unique far target location (FTL) system which uses differential GPS antenna on the create to create a three-dimensional attitude solution of distant targets for fire control purposes. Situational awareness for the crew is further augmented by both front and rear mounted Driver Vision Enhancer (DVE) modules with both infrared and low-light-level television (LLLTV) imagers and an SDI See-Through Armor System (STAS) which includes four camera modules with uncooled thermal and daylight CCD imagers mounted to the turret which give the commander and gunner overlapping 360 °field-of-view day and night vision around the tank in all light and weather conditions.

Heavy Armor Protection: With its heavy metal composite armor system and some 130 centimeters of line-of-sight armor thickness across the turret faces and glacis the PzKfz 151 is designed to be immune across the frontal 60° to both modern 120mm and 125mm caliber smoothbore APFSDS ammunition and to large diameter (~170mm) tandem shaped charge warheads carried by modern ground and air launched anti-tank guided missiles. Passive armor protection is supplanted by roof mounted bomblet armor intended to defeat shaped charge bomblets and top attack EFP munitions and a V-hull and underbelly armor designed to resists large anti-tank mine blasts. Protection is further enhanced by SDI's Active Armor System, a modular, distributed hardkill active protection system with a reaction time of less than 0.5 milliseconds which is designed to protect the vehicle from rockets, missiles, top-attack munitions, and cannon-launched HEAT projectiles.

Enhanced mobility: With it's 2,400 PS quad-turbo V-12 engine the PzKfz 151 posses an exceptionally high power-to-weight ratio of over 30 PS per tonne which gives it unmatched acceleration and quickness for a vehicle of it size. The HL280 is a low heat rejection (LHR) engine which makes extensive use of ceramic thermal barrier coatings to reduce heat transfer from the cylinder walls to the cooling system and unlike most armored vehicle engines is oil-cooled rather than water cooled. Other unique features of the HL280 include a variable compression ratio that increases fuel efficiency at partial loads and the use of four two-stage variable-geometry turbochargers in parallel which provide minimal turbo-lag and give the engine it's exceptional torque and specific power characteristics. The HL280 is coupled with an SDI TX-300 10 speed (7 forward, 3 reverse) hydro-kinetic transmission and accessory drive system to form a compact powerpack unit which can quickly be removed from the the tank in the field. Superior mobility characteristics of the PzKfz 151 are further enhanced by its semi-active in-arm hydro-pneumatic suspension system with eight roadwheels per side with a ground clearance adjustable between 0.1 and 0.7 meters and the use of a unique decoupled running gear system with both left and right side running gear carriers which decoupled from the sides of the hull using rubber mounts which result in greatly reduced vibration and internal noise.

SDI Arcturus Battle Management System (ABMS): Included with the PzKfz 151 is an interface to SDI's Arcturus Battle Management System which provides blue force tracking, command and control (C2), communications network management, and decision-making support at the brigade/regiment level and below. In addition to its communications and networking functions the Arcturus Battle Management System includes a suite of unique AI modules that run on the system's central processor including navigation aids, situational report and assessment, C3 (command, control, and communications), and target acquisition and engagement modules which provide automatic communication management, sensor control, and target identification and tracking functions for the host vehicle.

Mechanically assisted. Loaders role is to mainly select shells at the request of the gunner and to operate the system. At no point do they physically carry the shell. However the system can be manually loaded in the event of a breakdown.

Mechanically assisted. Loaders role is to mainly select and to operate the system. At no point do they physically carry the shell.

So, an autoloader, which precludes the necessity of a loader as the gunner can better serve that role?

Original prototypes attempted to do away with a loader to save on manpower. however simulations found the gunner operated more effectively without the added responsibility of selecting and operating the loading system. Also, we don't claim it's an autoloader because there is still an operator. An autoloader would be an entirely autonomous system.

So there's a crewman who doesn't do anything but prolong the reload time on a tank that apparently needs two barrels to hit one target. That's a bargain; we might as well withdraw our tank.

Untrue. Loader still is as necessary as they are on most modern tanks. His duties remain the same, selectammunition and loads it as per the commanders orders. The main difference being is that there is simply mechanical assistance since expecting A human being to load 140mm shells into two barrels unassisted seems inhumane. We chose to keep the loader over an autoloader as we wanted to keep the overengineering to a minimum. Also, the dual barrels are able to fire independently and at different elevations.

But if you feel that way, we won't stop you.

You are using naval guns for your tank's main armament, are you not? Forgive me if I'm wrong, but most naval guns do not do so much as to use mechanical assistance for their loading process-- they simply fully mechanized the process with an autoloader analog. And since your researchers have found the magic solution to defeat overengineering, perhaps they can invest some time in an autoloader for the artillery shells that are being handled in such a tight space. And maybe that Loader can finish that book he's been reading instead of doing superfluous work.

Victoria Frost, Defence Milnister
Ministry of Defence
The Republic of Ameria & Stannenbourg
Mucero

Greetings,

We at Mucero share with your republic the understanding that we need to protect our respective nations' borders. Thus, we are pleased to present our Apsychia tank family.

Parts commonality is a key strength due to its utilization of our platform: the M113 Medium Multi-Role Movement System. For instance, the baseline Apsychia AMX45 can be reconfigured to contain main and secondary armament that fits your requirements.

The Apsychia AMX45 is the latest iteration of the tank that is originally designed to be useful in jungle or urban warfare, depending on its configuration. Built for the Diarcesian Mundana Forces, it has served them well and they do not hesitate to convey their satisfaction to us.

Additional documents are included in this letter detailing the standard specifications of the Apsychia. Any alterations for your republic's use can be negotiated, and we are confident that the tank and its platform can accommodate them.

Sincerely,
Pimen Stibbons
Vice President

Greetings!

The Ministry of Defense would like to thank all of you for your submissions. However, there have been some recent developments Stallenbourg has withdrawn from this joint contest to pursue their own design. Therefore, I must inform you that all designs with guns below the Amerian Tender's 140mm gun requirement were eliminated from consideration. After heavy consideration and consultation with experts, however, we have chosen the JEAV-HANV IV(Ameria) 'Lamenter' Main Battle Tank design from Helsinki Arms and Nork-Kantara as the winner of this contest congratulations to Nothern Peoples.

Sincerely,
