1400 Hours: Outskirts of Ayabindi, Dahlslande (23/7/1999)

"There's the Dorians. Hah, ten foot-mobiles and an armored car. What are they even expecting, a light Sunday drive out in the bush?' The grizzled former private forces soldier grinned as he observed a Guadalupadorian Army checkpoint being set up from the safety of the tall grasses of the savanna. "Alright, troops you all know the plan, yeah?" He asked his troops. His squad of Dahlsander boys aged from as young as 12 to 16 nodded and slowly fanned out in teams of two through the grass toward the Guadalupadorian position. "Schulmann, you're with me." The commander gruffly ordered the 14-year-old to tag along with him, they'd be the closest to the checkpoint. Peter gulped and nodded. "Don't worry Schulmann, we'll all get out of this in one piece. We're gonna catch these fuckers by surprise." Peter continued to nod, not uttering a word. The two got as close as 5 meters from the roadside, and trained their sights on the un-knowing foreign soldiers. They could hear them speaking Dorian. Peter picked up some of the words that they could hear the enemy speaking.

Nah.....coffee.....he tried.....the Dahlslanders.....bush....yeah yeah yeah...here..fuckin stupid corporal.......intel...Commander.... One Guadalupadorian Army soldier was busy telling a story to pass the time.

"Got a target picked out?" The commander whispered. Schulmann nodded and aimed his rifle at the soldier leaning on the jersey barrier talking to his comrade.

What...that? Schulmann's target was distracted by what he thought he heard.

Schulmann felt a tap on the shoulder, giving him the signal to open fire. Peter opened fire, the semi-automatic burst from his FAL hitting the soldier in the abdomen. The soldier yelped as he was hit and crumpled over, Peter could hear the other soldiers start yelling
"Fuck!"
"Contact!"

"Where?"

Peter shut his eyes and kept firing blindly at the checkpoint. Within a second, Peter could hear the whish of a rocket propelled grenade passing by and scoring a hit on the armored car and the subsequent cracks of semi-auto fire. Peter opened his eyes again and hit the ground as rounds passed over them, shredding the grass above their heads. He stowed his rifle to the side and covered his ears while his commander kept firing at the Dorians. Within several minutes the engagement was over and the checkpoint was cleared of hostiles. "Alright! Come on boys, we're searching for survivors!" The commander slowly rose from his crouching position yelled to his squad. Peter got up alongside him and cautiously followed his leader to the ruined checkpoint. Bodies were strewn across the road, the burning husk of the armored car remained un-moving. Peter walked over to the soldier that he had hit, still bleeding out. He prodded the body with the muzzle of his rifle. The man jolted back into consciousness with a spurt of blood from the mouth. Peter was startled and trained his rifle back onto the man he had shot.

"P-p-please. No. Nicht schuss" The soldier begged in Dorian and broken German fluttering in and out of consciousness.

As the rest of the squad arrived, they checked around and looted the dead Dorians, taking their guns and ammo as well as personal items. All the while Peter watched the man he had hit die in front of him. He felt a hearty pat on the back. "Good hit for a first-timer, you'll get used to it." His commander said watching the soldier alongside Peter. The two watched the soldier beg for another moment. "...Alright, for god's sake, put him out of his misery." Peter shakily rose his FAL and shot the man once more. "Good job. This'll get easier, I can assure you. No quarter for invaders." Peter shut his eyes and he could feel nausea rocking his body.

2200 Hours: Zamunda, Present Day

President Schulmann violently shook himself awake in his airplane seat, sweat rolling down the sides of his face. He breathed heavily trying to regain his composure. Schulmann wiped the sweat off of his face with a nearby towel and surveyed his surroundings in the airplane cabin.

"Mister President are you alright?" Chief of Staff Integwe asked looking back toward the President of Dahlslande from his own seat.

"Y-yeah, I'm okay." the President said in between breaths. "It was just a dream."

"Okay, we'll be touching down in Zamunda in about twenty minutes. In the meantime, I think you've got mail."

Schulmann checked his secure tablet computer for any missives or news from the situation in Bagongo. He read through the reports from Bagongo and the initial reports on Operation Cheetah. The situation had changed drastically over the course of the past 48 hours and would affect any upcoming negotiations and would complicate any joint settlement with one side tipping the scales so decisively. The first and foremost missive came from the Parliament of Mcnernia and granted utmost importance. He read through and had his initial reservations about having a former colonial power intervene in Bagongo, but set aside his concerns for now and would address them within his response.

The situation within the country of Bagongo has, as of last night, deteriorated rapidly and I am currently on my way to the General Assembly to establish an OAC-sanctioned operation to stop the fighting and open up negotiations between FROLIBO and the government. I understand the concern from the Parliament of Mcnernia and we will be willing to be assisted in peacekeeping operations, however I would imagine that some within the OAC would have their reservations on one of Afruika's former colonial powers offering direct military assistance in ceasing conflict within Afruika. We will be willing to set up a correspondence with your parliament to answer any relevant questions as we have several of our own for you.

The parameters of a possible peacekeeping mission are still being hammered out in detail and if the OAC approves of Mcnernian intervention in Bagongo we will share relevant information and intelligence.

The main objective of the OAC is to open channels of negotiations between the Butu and Miyazenga, however with the apparent success of Operation Cheetah, this will complicate matters with my initial thoughts on having any sort of settlement that involves 'status-quo antebellum.' It's clear that the Miyazenga will be able to negotiate from a point of strength if channels open soon; This could be a problem if the Butu see the OAC peace talks as a sort of "surrender," and will refuse to negotiate at all until they can pull off some sort of tactical successes in the field, which at this point, my advisers are saying its unlikely. The inclusion of Mcnernian-led military personnel could also cause other unforseen problems, especially your country's given history in Afruika. It's highly suggested that if Mcnernian units will be serving in Bagongo, that they be put under a central OAC Peacekeeping Command, though I would assume that you would have reservations on that.

Raditian trouble

NPTV Studios, Chernogorod
"Welcome to evening news on National Papers Television. I am Karel Novotný, your host for today. Let's get straight to the main news.

The situation in Bagongo continues to develop. Recently we have informed you about the ongoing genocide in this central Afruikan country.

Current death toll estimates go into tens of thousands. As far as we know nobody of Miyazenga ethnicity is spared... including the children. Targets of the killing aren't just Miyazenga though, but also the Batwa people as well as some Butu moderates.

This disgusting act seems sanctioned, and probably even orchestrated by the government in Karaba. One of our reporters, Michal Peřina, was able to capture some footage.

Peřina was residing at the Raditian consulate in Karonda when the genocide began."

The footage shows BDF soldiers entering residential buildings. Bursts of fire and screaming can be heard in the background.

"It's... It's slaughter out here. Hundreds of people are getting... getting killed every second... And it's not just killing, but also raping..."

A sudden burst of automatic fire can be heard, much louder than the others.

"Oh god...

It's not... eh... grassroots... spontaneous violence of... of Butu mobs... Those are government troops... This is their army."

The camera is turned at the reporter himself. He is young, around twenty, and distressed.

"I am scared... This consulate... has just like a single squad protecting it... I don't know what will happen if they try to kill us too."

The camera turns back to the studio.

"Fortunately, Nohavica is still safe and well at the consulate. Now... a quick recap of what lead to this situation.

It's not for the first time when Bagongo saw mass-scale violence. The two main ethnicities of the country fought against each other in low-intensity conflict since the 1960s. The conflict intensified two years after General Mugerwa was ousted out of power in 2014.

Mugerwa was a military dictator of the country since 1998. Under his guidance, the nation saw almost a decade of state-enforced discrimination. When his regime came to end, he escaped. It was not the end of his career though. In 2016, him-lead forces of the Front for Liberation of Bagongo invaded from the east and threw it into a civil war. That lasted until 2017 when a ceasefire was signed in the city of Gola.

This leads us to the death of President Michael Zuluka and most of his cabinet on August 17. Michael Zuluka was the first democratically elected president and was of Butu ethnicity. He was a supporter of the negotiations and planned to fly to Gola to continue them. His plane was shot-down by guided missiles a few minutes after takeoff, leaving his Vice-President Arthur Bukenya in charge.

It was claimed that Mugerwa's forces were responsible for the attack. Nevertheless, some experts believe that the mastermind behind the assassination was Bukenya and his radical allies.

When Zuluka died, there was an imminent backlash from Butu population. During the emergency session of the legislature, a group of armed terrorists entered the assembly building and killed over one hundred Miyazenga representatives.

The situation continued to escalate. On September 4, a broadcast from the Hutu Power Radio called to 'burn the rats out of their burrows'. Which signalled the start of the genocide. It seems that both the BDF as well as ordinary Butu citizens participated in this event.

Though not everything goes well for the central government in Karaba.

Recently the Mugerwa's FROLIBO forces conducted their largest operation ever. Attacking the BDF troops in the Lake Kigali area and striking a decisive victory. It is estimated that over half of the 3rd Mahwan Infantry Division stationed there was annihilated.

The commander of the division, Major General Opega, is considered the KIA. Just a day before, his forces were massacring the local Miyazenga population. Thus this may be seen as a direct reprisal for the genocide."

Raditian embassy in Karaba
"There are still armed mobs in the streets, we are not sure if we can get through them." Ambassador Štéfanik was not any rookie. He knew full well the risk of serving as an ambassador in unstable nations. He also knew that in situations like these it's better to flee. For the past hour or so, he discussed the situation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "And what about the consulate in Karonda?" The Karonda consulate has been set up in 2017, following the split of the country. Unfortunately, it's seclusion now complicates the situation. "I see... we will await your response." Štéfanik hung up the call just as the Chief Security Officer entered his office.

"Sir? How it looks like with the evacuation?" asked the CSO. "They said that they will try to send something by tomorrow... or by the day after. Now tell me... how it looks like with the security measures." The CSO slightly noded. "All the boys from my section are awake, gendarmes too. The gasmasks are ready... and you should get your bulletproof vest already." Normally, security to embassies is provided solely by the Foreign Missions Security Agency. But considering the risks in some countries, multiple missions have been enhanced with the presence of Raditian gendarmes. The Karaba embassy has nine gendarmes and four FMSA agents present, including the CSO.

"Sir?" Asked the CSO. "What about the consulate in Karonda?" The CSO well knew that consulate was much less prepared for a possible attack. With only one agent and four gendarmes. "I asked them about that, they'll try to think of something." Replied Štéfanik while he was getting the vest on. "The NPTV has made a coverage of the events." CSO continued. The ambassador recognised by the tone of his voice that something bad was going on. "And?" He said. "Those morons mentioned having a reporter in the consulate. And they also talked about how unprotected is." The CSO paused for a while. "I fear the worst."

Official Communique of the Federative Republic of Radimostan

To: President Arthur Bukenya of the Democratic Republic of Bagongo

Your excellency. Due to the security situation in the Democratic Republic, we are forced to evacuate our diplomatic staff. Due to the concern for their well-being, we would like to send a military contingent. About a company or two strong. They would be sent to the King Tchombe's International Airport in Karaba and the Airport near Karonda. Their task would be to assist in the evacuation of our embassy in Karaba and our consulate in Karonda. We mean no ill-intent by our temporary withdrawal.

We merely hope for a fruitful co-operation.

Signed,
Villiam Zeintak, the President of the Federative Republic
Anna Jizcova, Premier of the Council of Ministers
Štefánie Pecháčeková, Minister of Foreign Affairs

FRONT FOR LIBERATION OF BAGONGO (@FROLIBOFFICIAL)
Just now from Burui

I wish to openly announce that Front for Liberation of Bagongo and the Umbumwé will from now on operate it's official social media account. This account is meant to represent our organisation on the social media and is ran with his excellency, Gen. Paul Mugerwa's consent and approval. All materials related to our group and struggle for freedom are now going to be placed here.

Our organisation wishes to, in an official statement, confirm the news of genocide of the Miyazenga people conducted by Bukenya and his peasant thugs. We have records of thousands of confirmed fatalities of the Miyazenga civilians including the evidence of army's participation in the genocide.

The division between the Butu and Miyazenga had been created for the interests of those groups themselves, and it's important that those groups form one, harmonious society, each performing their functions. Without this division, bagongo is sure to fall into chaos as we have evidenced now. Restoration of the traditional order is necessary for peace to return to Bagongo.

Our organisation will continue to fight for peace, prosperity and harmony until the bitter end. We will not rest until Arthur Bukenya and all those who assist him have been rightfully punished.

Camp Maginhawa, 5km NNE of Tirame, Bagongo

Shit hit the fan - harder.

Lieutenant Colonel Topacio just couldn't believe his senses.

FROLIBO, in all of its tactical disadvantage against a single BLDF division, was able to pull off a highly decisive decapitation attack, using a Schlieffen Plan of its own devising - and exploiting the unstable border regions of Yughanna at that. He was indeed aware, from his HQ staff's advisory, that the BDF had gone from being a half-decent fighting force to a glorified horde, channeling its personnel, assets, and strength from fighting against FROLIBO to conducting drunken genocides of the Miyazenga peoples, as well as that of the moderate Butus and the Batwa indigents - but pulling off a decisive victory of this sort (and seizing a lot of equipment from the BDF as well) was another story, for LTC Topacio was quite pessimistic that they could pull off such a feat.

"So, ang sinasabi mo ay, nakipag-away ang FROLIBO sa mga lasenggang BDF, kahit alam nilang outgunned sila, at nanalo sila?!" (So, you're saying, FROLIBO fought against the BDF drunkards, knowing they're outgunned, and they won?!) Topacio exclaimed, astonished of his staff's remarks regarding FROLIBO's successful decapitation strike that left the 1st Kigali Infantry Division practically crippled from the neck down. His astonishment was answered with a succinct "Sir, yes, sir." from his staff.

The next thing he would have was the electronic warfare and signal support section intercepting a live terrestrial TV and radio (AM and FM) broadcast, and broadcasting it live as it blared through the airwaves. "Sir, live broadcast intercepted, will mainscreen, sir!" one of the EWSS specialists said as Topacio chatted further with his senior staff and officers. No sooner did the EWSS play the broadcast for everyone in the command center to listen into, its violent content bared for everyone to see live as it happened.

At this point, it dawned on Topacio how Operation Cheetah's success would affect any negotiation between Bagongo, currently under the Bukenya administration, and FROLIBO, considering that FROLIBO now had the high ground in a double whammy for the Bagongolese government. To make matters better, FROLIBO was interrogating Gen. Opega of the 1st Kigali Infantry Division, and was already forcing him to admit his division's atrocities through live television and radio - and S6 and S2 were among those keenly listening in to the broadcast as the electronic warfare and signal support section were listening into the broadcast, their audiovisual equipment blaring the broadcasts live in crisp, 720p 1280x720, surround sound glory.

However, what mattered to Topacio more was the defences and survival of the base, as he ordered his men to record the broadcast until it was done, and then transmit via SATCOM a raw copy to General Headquarters, AFP. Granted he did not need to order them to record them (the interception systems would automatically do it), but sending or receiving anything required utmost care, and sending this stuff back home was one that required the commander's express approval - not that it wasn't trivial anyways, but this was much easier to do that to worry about the base's defences.

At this point, the lieutenant colonel authorised them to send a copy to AFPGHQ. "I-record niyo ang live broadcast, at kapag tapos na, i-padala sa AFPGHQ ang lahat ng mapapadala niyo." (Record the live broadcast, and when it's done, send to AFPGHQ all that you can send.) sternly ordered Topacio as he turned back to the table over which he was talking about their plans with his staff; his stern orders were met with a succinct "Sir, yes sir!"

Topacio saw in front of him a report on Palmyrion's findings on the recently-conducted Operation Cheetah, and had also ordered his staff to send a digital copy of the report back to AFPGHQ. The AFPGHQ had to know; Palmyrion had to know. "Ipadala niyo na rin ang report tungkol sa Operation Cheetah. Susunod na iyan sa recording ng live broadcast." (Send a report on Operation Cheetah as well. That is to follow after the recording of the live broadcast.) Topacio ordered, his stern command replied to with the same succinct "Sir, yes sir."

So much for paperwork. Now that intelligence regarding the latest events was on its way back home, Topacio can now worry about the base's defences, and how they will survive what seems to be an endless onslaught of 3,000 soldiers - some being children - spamming hit-and-run style attacks at the defences; not that the tactical manoeuvre obstacles they placed around the base to help make their situation easier would altogether stop them from doing so (it would only make it MUCH harder for them), but that alleged foreign mercenaries embedded among the Ushindi Brigade might spot these tactical obstacles, especially the fake minefields (which they also booby-trapped).

With that in mind, Topacio went out to inspect the base defences. It was vital that he should not be singled out by a sniper - and it was standard protocol that soldiers should never salute even him in open areas like this; he suited up in Force Protection Gear - helmet, deltoid pads, knee and elbow pads, vest, everything - before he went out to roam around the base and inspect the prepared defences. The base defences were, so to say, makeshift; earthen ramparts and revetments graced the HESCO barrer walls and sangars encircling the base's interiors; soldiers dug up foxholes and trench networks wherever they can, with the most elaborate of them featuring some form of overhead protection; climbing up to the sangers, he could see a wide expanse of cleared forest 200 metres from the walls (they had to cut down trees to set up their base, unfortunately to much of the locals' chagrin) with a random soldier manning a sanger explaining that among the clearing - itself covered in thick, lush vegetation - were hidden spike trenches, steep enough to prevent egress by a vehicle from the spike trench (not that getting impaled at the spikes would allow them to egress from the trench), covered by foliage, as well as barriers of spikes and razor wire strewn openly around, and both barriers and traps were strewn in an almost random fashion around the cleared areas. Hidden smoke grenades littered around the clearing served as smoke dispensers, and would detonate and dispense their payload upon command by the soldiers; the main point was to fill the firing zone with smoke in the event of a raid (which was predicted to happen at night) to hamper the combat effectiveness of the Ushindi Brigade (knowing their lack of nightvidion and thermal imaging equipment); smoke filling the clearings would also have a psychological effect, primarily in hampering the militants' sense of direction i.e. the smoke obscuring their path (and making them fall into traps or injure themselves on the barriers) and confusing them about where the shots are coming from (an effect reinforced by fitting silencers on the rifles of some soldiers). Sangars and firing positions along the wall were obscured, primarily with sangars having woodland camouflage abaca fabric screens draped at the sides and rear; additionally, the soldiers wore Lyran Disruptive Pattern Camouflage Uniforms appropriately drab in woodland pattern, the uniforms bearing an IR suppressant capability that hampered enemy IR-based visual of the soldiers from upwards of 12 metres.

In particular, the network of foxholes and trenches the Palmyrians dug could be considered as impressive. The main goal of the network of trenches and foxholes was to secure, with only minor disruption, the flow of manpower (replacing exhausted, thirsty, and hungry soldiers with freshly rested and nourished ones), casualties (to carry the wounded and dead away from the zones of fighting), and supplies (self-explanatory) throughout the base under mortar and artillery fire. Foxholes became forward mess halls (holes? Pun not intended), supply points, first aid stations, and armories away from the main armories, medical stations, and supply depots of the base, and trenches connected the base's main facilities and the aforementioned foxholes; additionally, some foxholes would become pre-designated firing pits for the mortar teams and ATGM teams in the contingent's mechanised infantry companies.

Chaos was unfolding at the home front. A bisexual - one named Rachel Carreon - was found dead after going missing for almost one week, her body beaten and bruised all over, a threatening note tied around her body by the Christofalangist Front of Palmyrion. Yet another Progressive Islamic activist - Pamela Haddad - was found beheaded, her head found at the steps of the Lopera Hall in Ateneo de Aragon University (a university managed by local Marshite clergy at that!), her body nowhere to be found. Reports of bugchaser rapes and incel suicides and shooting threats haunted the Palmyrian National Police and the Civil Defence Force, as the world around them - in this case, the Royal Commonwealth - caved in around them, slowly but ever surely. The PNP and CDF nevertheless managed to respond timely to these incidents but the dead bodies just came piling up and up, and the violence slowly escalating. The backs of the local security forces were getting ever more strained by the day.

And now this.

Lakambini Elizabeth the Commoner may have had not a stomach for violence unlike her late predecessor, but she was used to it anyways. Besides, the recent spate of sectarian violence at the home front was more than enough to warrant the Lakambini developing a stomach of iron and an appetite of steel when it came to violence, and she grew up with her now-dead husband having to cope with the Troubles of 2009-2018 as the then-Crown Prince was being groomed to be the future monarch, his then-girlfriend being groomed to become the future royal consort. The pregnant monarch's baby bump was clearly visible and the entire public had seen it - at least in social media, for the Lakambini rarely ever went out in public nowadays, as she developed a near-paranoid watchfulness for her developing baby (and understandably so; she wanted to take care of the baby she and the late Lakán had prior to his assassination, and she cared for the future of the Royal Commonwealth, primarily its future monarch).

However, the footage as sent by CJTF-OST to her from Bagongo - it was forwarded to her by a representative the Supreme Commandant of the Armed Forces of Palmyrion - was revolting enough to warrant her taking almost ten minutes to debrief herself and cope with the violent (if traumatising) content. By her was a pile of paperwork in a desk organizer, with letters from the McNernian government and the Office of the Secretary-General for the Organisation for Afruika Cooperation being marked "Priority" in red manila envelopes. After replaying the recorded footage for the 5th time today, the Lakambini composed a letter to be sent to both parties.

CC: The Office of the Chair of the Select Committee on Bagongo
Cathcride, McNernia

To whom it may concern,

The Royal Commonwealth has planned to assist the proposed McNernian intervention in Bagongo with its own armed forces, though exact numbers will be kept secret for operational security and the fact that the intervention is largely tentative as it stands now. The Palmyrian Ambassador to the McNernian Commonwealth has also agreed to testify in front of the McNernian Select Committee on Bagongo on the situation of the Palmyrian peacekeeping forces in Bagongo.

We affirm that the situation in Bagongo is dire; the genocide is estimated to have killed tens of thousands, FROLIBO launched Operation Cheetah with tremendous success - and, according to my military advisors as well, it is unlikely BDF might be able to pull off similarly successful exploits, given the seeming deterioration of discipline among the BDF rank and file going back to the mass defection of its Miyazenga officers back in 2012 and now its seemingly blind slaughter of the Miyazenga ethnic group; the Palmyrian peacekeeping contingent in Bagongo, named Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Salving Truce, is under siege by Butu militants and, though entrenched and better equipped and armed, are outnumbered. Thus, Palmyrion believes that the only way to stop the genocide is to militarily intervene.

However, while Palmyrion believes that the only way to stop the genocide on its tracks is through military intervention, it may be negatively seen as an action of support for a regime - specifically, the leader of the fallen regime - that had enacted policies amounting to Miyazengan ethnic supremacy over the Butu ethnic group; rest assured, however, that after the intervention, Palmyrion will be willing to assist in removing the vestiges - political, social, and economic - of the bygone regime and its policies that have largely fueled and ignited the sectarian violence in the first place by advising appropriate interventions and policies in the aforementioned political, social, and economic sectors.

We thank you for acknowledging and comprehending our message, and we look forward to your most esteemed reply.

Sincerely Yours,
[digitally signed]

OOC: First part co-authored with Stojam. Nothing in this reflects my personal views.

*** Karaba, Bagongo

The last few days had been terrible for President Bukenya and his government. A shocking lack of discipline and shortsightedness by the Army as it massacred the Miyazenga had resulted in the loss of Kigali province to FROLIBO and the decimation of the 3rd Mahwan Infantry Division. The shaken remnants of that division, now led by a certain Major Koman, were making their way through enemy territory to the nearest crossing along the Luga River into Butu-controlled land. Its actual commander was now a prisoner of General Mugerwa and being routinely interrogated live on radio for the entire country to hear. With countries beginning to pull their diplomatic missions out of Bagongo and rumours of some sort of international intervention, Bukenya could already feel the walls closing in on him. To make matters worse, he now sat face to face with an extremely angry, pale-faced man from one of the private military companies the government had contracted to augment the network of Butu militias that were prowling the country, looking for Miyazenga to kill.

With that, Robert Cecil Huntley, the CEO of the same PMC Bukenya hired to kill the Miyazenga was sitting face to face with him, it was actually none other than Amihan Russel that paid for the entire deal, plus with the same PMC investing their own money in it, so that Bukenya was basically spoonfed like a small child. Robert told Bukenya to get his bodyguards out of the room, making this a private four eyes discussion, he went from total calmness and eagerness to a flaming mad pale-faced man. "ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!" Robert shouted, echoing throughout the whole room, "YOU JUST LOST AN ENTIRE FUCKING PROVINCE TO A RAG TAG GROUP OF FOREST SH*TSKINS AND NOT ONLY THAT YOU GOT YOUR GENERAL INTERROGATED LIVE ON THE RADIO?!" Robert continued shouting and banging on the table. "I think I made it clear that there is NO ROOM for failures and disobedience. You do not understand the FUCKING HORRENDOUS SITUATION WE ARE BOTH AT! That’s right! Both of us are in a deep mess!" Robert was screaming as he banged on the table more times. "You don’t fucking understand, because of YOUR incompetence and you being a shit-for-brains n***er now Russel wants to send hitmen after me, put a bullet in my sorry mess of a body and then dump it in the river! And you… Oh you… You are in the most trouble out of them. Do you know what I heard? Russel wants to brutalize you, chop off your head and feed you to the lions or something!" Robert shouted loudly as he towered over Bukenya.

Bukenya sat in his chair with his head lowered. Maybe it had been a mistake to deal with this Russel individual, the mysterious foreigner that almost nobody knew about and yet exerted so much power from the shadowy recesses of the world. He wondered if he had been wrong to organise the death of his relatively moderate political mentor and so many of his Butu allies and friends. No! It was the Miyazenga who were responsible for this, using their trickery and foreign supporters to destroy the Butu. They were rats that Zuluka had been too cowardly to deal with! These two conflicting ideas played a proverbially game of tennis in his head before one won out. "Mr Huntley, I assure you that this defeat is only a minor setback in our plans for Bagongo. My generals are already drawing up plans for a grand offensive into FROLIBO territory across the Luga River, targeting the major settlements of Kayogoro and that crime-infested shithole called Mahwa! As a way to redeem yourself in the eyes of Mr Russel, I suggest you provide your expert pilots to fly our most modern planes in the coming battles!" Bukenya said.

Robert significantly calmed down after Bukenya’s suggestion, he nodded saying, "You have no idea how much money this deal cost me and Russel, I’ll get your pilots in no time. And what happened to the arms dealing connections I gave you? That slip with the number leading to my most trusted fellow in South Zambiziland? Use it. Anyways, I’ll keep helping you only on one condition. NO MORE FUCKING PILLAGING AND RAPING, AND WORK ON EXCESSIVE COUNTER PROPAGANDA, YOU HEARD ME?!" Robert immediately said and shouted. Robert Huntley then quickly motioned for his waistline and pulled out his foreign-made H&K USP .45, it was clean and looked expensive. He flipped off the safety and aimed it right at Bukenya’s head saying, "You just earned yourself some time to live, don’t make me regret it. I can make a crime scene out of this room and get away with it scot-free, making some bullshit excuse to Russel and paying your dumbass bodyguards off. I got a backup plan always, you don’t. Remember that. And work on that offensive in Tirame with my troops closely. I’ll see your sorry black ass later." Robert then pulled the safety on back and put it in his waist again, he then stomped out of the room, going back to get escorted by his bodyguards out of Bukenya’s palace.

Bukenya sighed heavily as Robert left, feeling absolutely humiliated and offended by this arrogant, white foreigner. He couldn’t allow himself to be pushed around like this if he wanted to be seen as a strong, warrior-like leader of the Butu race. He vowed that he would get his revenge for the loss of Kigali Province, for the destruction of so much of the BDF's forces. He immediately grabbed his phone and dialled the number for Karaba Air Base. If Mugerwa was going to play sly tricks on Bukenya forces on the ground, he would counter by fighting him from where the Butu had sole domain; in the air. The next phase in the crusade to exterminate the Miyazenga was about to commence.

*** Karaba Air Base, Bagongo

Image

A light drizzle fell down upon Karaba Air Base. It was a moderately sized military facility located several kilometres west of the city it was named after and the main base of operations for the Bagongo Air Defence Force. Almost all of its combat aircraft were located here, including its MiG-29SM multirole fighters and ageing Nanchang A-5IIA attack aircraft, the latter imported from the People's Republic of Wenchua. While the A-5IIAs were flown by local Butu pilots, the MiG-29SMs were set aside for now so they could be used by the skilled mercenary pilots Bukenya was hoping Robert Huntley would provide him. Now, President Bukenya's personal order for the immediate start of a grand campaign to destroy the Miyazenga stronghold of Kayogoro was being transmitted to the rank and file by Chief of the Air Staff Milton Kiwanuka and his subordinates. Amongst the mist that had enveloped the place, ground crews were frantically preparing the necessary equipment for the coming mission. Four A-5IIAs of the 3rd Attack Key were rolled out onto the runway to be first fuelled and then armed with four unguided 450 kg general-purpose bombs. In another part of the Air Base, two Antonov An-26 planes from the 4th Transport Key were loaded up with twenty barrel bombs each, filled with shrapnel for maximum destruction.

Two hours later, the aircraft were ready for the journey to Kayogoro. One after the other, the A-IIAs rose into the skies above Bagongo, followed close behind by the An-26s. It would take little time for them to reach the airspace above their target. As the much faster attack planes roared ahead to begin the first phase of the operation, the An-26s lingered behind and climbed to about 5,000 metres, well out of range of any anti-aircraft guns FROLIBO might have deployed in Kayogoro. Oblivious to what was coming for them, the lives of the inhabitants of Kayogoro were now in great danger. Elsewhere, the order was given for the 1st Kigali Infantry Division and 2nd Luga River Infantry Division to move to an advantageous position on the BDF-controlled side of the Luga River to begin setting up their artillery batteries for the ground-based element of the operation to destroy the city. Meanwhile, the 5th Mugusan Armored Division would be moved from the north of the country to cover the river crossing at Mahwa and prevent any incursion by FROLIBO towards Rutovu. Strict orders were given to these of the BLDF not to interfere with the operations of General Ass Nude's Ushindi Brigade around Tirame.

*** Over Kayogoro, Bagongo

Clouds had totally obscured Kayogoro, but this was not a problem for the Butu pilots. GPS revealed they were nearly in position to bomb their target. The A-IIAs dived a few hundred metres then released their load of bombs, a total of 16 now hurtling down into the city. The bombs broke through the clouds like an armoured fist, many slamming into the roof of the Kayogoro Palace. This was the royal home of the Nyanza family, a Miyazenga dynasty which had ruled Bagongo until 1985 when King John I was ousted. Some of the bombs missed and struck the roads and houses surrounding the Palace, killing dozens of men, women and children alike while sending torrents of dust into the air. The cloud of destruction cleared to reveal that the Palace had suffered extensive damage from the hits, with one side of the building now completely collapsed in on itself. Debris, human remains and the dying now littered the streets around the Palace amidst an atmosphere of total shock and panic. Family members, friends and strangers alike ran to consul and assist the dying in their last moments and those who were wounded or caught beneath the rubble of destroyed buildings. Sporadic fires had broken out and were enveloping many buildings that had been hit. Crowds of people came out onto the streets to see what was happening, not realising the city had just been bombed. Barrages of anti-aircraft fire from FROLIBO units reached into the skies but failed to even so much as come near the planes, who continued to move amongst the clouds. Nobody on the ground realised that the worst was yet to come.

The An-26s, converted into makeshift bombers, began to rain down death and destruction upon Kayogoro. A spray of barrel bombs rolled out of their cargo bay doors, with not any particular target in mind but the Miyazenga. Accuracy really didn't matter too much. Wherever a barrel bomb fell, people were torn to pieces by a storm of shrapnel. As Bukenya had envisaged in the scenarios he had conjured up in his mind, the BDF had taken full advantage of the chaos after the initial bombing to maximise Miyazenga deaths. Hundreds of dead lay on the bloodied streets of Kayogoro, while the city centre burned around them. The dazed survivors wandered amongst this hellscape, many unable to cry at the pure shock of the whole ordeal. With their mission now complete, the planes turned around and returned to Karaba Air Base.

*** Karonda, Bagongo

The threat of annihilation had receded for the remnants of the 3rd Mahwan Infantry Division. It looked like FROLIBO had opted to withdraw to the safety of their base area in the Rwenjura Mountains instead of getting tied down in a siege of Karonda or Vyanda. Major Koman breathed a sigh of relief that the danger had passed, but he was still rattled by the colossal defeat that had been dealt against the 3rd Mahwan. It didn't help that now the Miyazenga were broadcasting Major General Opega's interrogation to the entire country, drowning out the transmission of Butu Power Radio and seriously hampering attempts to coordinate the ethnic cleansing of the Miyazenga. Koman weighed the options that had been set out for him by his fellow officers, analysing a map of Kigali Province. As far as getting back to friendly territory was concerned, he only had two options now; disperse into Zairo or push up along the main road and hope the BLDF would assist them in striking through Kayogoro.

A young officer came running to Koman, "Sir! An urgent communication from Karaba. It's General Ngendandumwe himself!"

"Give him over to me immediately!" Koman ordered. The Major grabbed the phone and held it firmly in his hand. General Ngendandumwe, the Commander of the Land Forces, was a man renowned for his brutality and hatred of the Miyazenga. A close friend to President Bukenya, it was likely he had played a big part in orchestrating the campaign to destroy the Miyazenga. "Sir!" Koman shouted into the phone.

"Major Koman, you are hereby promoted to the rank of Major General and made the new commanding officer of the 3rd Mahwan Infantry Division by the direct order of His Excellency President Arthur Bukenya. Opega is relieved of duty for his cowardice in the face of the Miyazenga rats and greatly shaming the Butu race through his incompetence. You are to make way towards Kayogoro immediately and regain the warrior spirit of the 3rd Mahwan. We scored a major victory this morning in exterminating some rats from the air and a number of our ground forces are coming to clear a way for you through the city! That gorilla Mugerwa has retreated into the mountains where he belongs!" Ngendandumwe boasted, roaring with laughter.

Koman's promotion was only a formality at this point, as everyone else had accepted him as the new leader of the 3rd Mahwan anyway. After going through some intelligence reports on the situation in the various towns and villages of Kigali Province. Company commanders were gathered together and briefed on the plan for getting home, then given their instructions to direct their men to Ngowaya tonight, where all units would rendezvous before pushing north. The armoured battalion in Murehe was sent preemptively from the west to establish a defensive perimeter around Ngowaya. By the cover of night, a line of vehicles left Karonda and began making its way up the road, with the infantry battalion in Vyanda departing some minutes later. When nightfall came, everything under Major General Dominik Koman's command moved to the vicinity of Ngomaya in preparation for the great push northwards.

A large mob of local Butu residents had formed to oppose the entry of Koman's men, still bearing the scars of the rampage Opega's men had gone on after killing or evicting the local Miyazenga. He managed to diffuse the situation by apologising on behalf of the 3rd Mahwan Infantry Division, suggesting he would petition for redress once the war was over and promising that the Division would be gone by dawn. Koman returned to the same building that Opega had operated from, seeing that either FROLIBO or the locals had confiscated almost all the HQ company's equipment. His men slept soundly for the night and, when morning broke, scouting units left early to scan for mines and potential ambush sites that may be exploited by the enemy while the main force passed through.

*** Tirame, Bagongo

The remains of the Palmyrian soldiers were crucified along the road leading to Tirame from Kalinzi. A few minutes after being put there, the rotting corpses were already being pulled apart by vultures. After a brief funeral ritual, Musubaho's remains were cremated and his ashes scattered to the wind in a field on the banks of the River Luga. A squad of militiamen fired a volley of rifle fire into the air as the fire consumed his body, returning him to the earth. A handful of the Ushindi Brigade's most senior individuals attended, spending about an hour as the sunset hanging around the banks of the river. Ass Nude, himself illiterate, directed one of his men to write a letter to Musubahos's wife and children in Karaba, who had yet to be informed about his untimely death. Knowing that they would have to leave the past behind and focus on destroying the Palmyrians, the men returned to Tirame once it got dark so they could figure out what their next move was going to be.

Ass Nude had established his headquarters above a small corner shop in the town centre. The rest of the Ushindi Brigade had been dispersed amongst the local populace, staying at local inns, hotels or with elderly couples whose children had moved out. In return, he paid generously for Tirame's hospitality, directing his men to assist the local business owners with everyday tasks. In reality, he was using the locals as a sort of human shield, knowing himself that, by melting in amongst them, the Palmyrians would have a much higher risk of causing unacceptable collateral damage to civilians. It would have been nonsensical for him to establish a separate base outside of the town. He advised the foreigners from Cyclops International to do likewise, the local children, in particular, being fascinated by the light-skinned, tall men who accompanied Ass Nude. The female soldier that they had captured was being kept in a certain basement, being guarded 24/7 by a team of highly-trained mercenaries. Ass Nude periodically visited in order to 'play' with her.

Unarmed reconnaissance teams in plain clothes were sent out on foot with locals into the area between Tirame and Camp Maginhawa, meeting with farmers and herders in the countryside who were keeping track of the movements of the foreign soldiers. The lay of the land was surveyed, and suitable spots for artillery emplacements noted for the officers to consider. Some squads were sent through the dense jungle to look for clearings which could be used as covert checkpoints for resupply and places to launch ambushes on Palmyrian patrols. Such ingenuity was required by the militia as it was very unlikely the BDF would intervene in this matter directly. Every Butu man, woman and child would be the eyes and ears of General Ass Nude as he sought to track every move of the foreign menace the moment they stepped outside the safety of their base. Meanwhile, Keambiroiro asked the foreign mercenaries to start their own scouting efforts as well, knowing they would ve able to watch the enemy from the air as well as the ground through their fleet of commercially-available drones.

FOREIGNERS MURDER BAGONGOLESE PATRIOT IN COLD BLOOD

Tirame, Bagongo - A unit of Palmyrian so-called 'peacekeepers' have murdered a popular and beloved militia commander in Tirame. Eyewitnesses say honoured war veteran Ouma Musubaho attempted to reason with and secure safe passage for the group of Palmyrians after they were confronted by patriotic citizens when the foreigners interfered in local cleaning operations. The foreigners fired on Mr Musubaho without hesitation, killing him instantly. The murderers were immediately executed by citizen militia units and one of the perpetrators, believed to be their possible commander, was arrested for questioning. President Bukenya has strongly condemned the criminal act, describing it as "an act of foreign aggression and interference in Bagongolese affairs". Subsequently, His Excellency has issued a directive ordering all foreign forces deployed in Bagongo as part of the Gola Accords to withdraw from the country immediately or "face the wrath of the brave and heroic Bagongolese people and their Defence Forces.".

Mokujangu was one of those nations known more to the outside world by its leader; Joseph "The Lion" Ukumbe, than any other aspect of the country. By all metrics The Lion was a horrible leader, he lacked military skill, economic knowledge, diplomatic level-headedness or even the ability to win an open election. However; he was an excellent power-holder; he knew where the sources of power were derived from, he knew how to harvest them, and most of all he knew how to keep them in check.
Mokujangu kept itself afloat based off of three major exports, luxury flowers, phosphate, and diamonds. The flowers were troublesome as they kept a number of his population at work and arable land in use, but without producing actual food. Phosphate was stable, but experts warned they would be depleted within twenty years. Diamonds, on the other hand were the clear bringer of bread to the table (or alcohol, drugs and foreign women to his parties). Ukumbe's economic advisers, including the 2nd-generation Nijonese immigrant businessman, Kamado "Niha" Shunjima, as well as his military advisers (including the Afrikaner and former mercenary, Hector "The Cobra" Vickerman) had informed him of the situation in Bagongo, a major competitor in the diamond trade.

Several hours later, Ukumbe stood before a handful of cameras ready to make an announcement. Behind was a massive refugee camp sprawling the dirt wasteland behind the airfield. It was stocked with some legitimate refugees from Bagongo who had fled by air to the nearby nation, but it was also stocked with squatters and (cheaply) paid crisis actors. Ukumbe, who was of the Akan minority, had paid a number of closely-related Mokujangan Tat'we people to stand in the refugee camps and make them look bigger than they actually were. He was also betting that gullible westerners and fake-easterners would not even know the difference between all the different kinds of black people

"My fellow countrymen and patriots of Mokujangu! Here we see the suffering that is caused by ethnic strife and genocide of the Miyazenga! These people are the victims of unjust ethnic cleansing at the hands of the short-men Butu, who are jealous of their taller build and larger cocks! By taking on such large numbers of refugees who have nowhere to run, we also take in economic and food resource strain on ourselves!

However, there is another way! We can ensure the Miyazenga have a safe place to live and erase the burden of refugees on ourselves! That is why I authorize the glorious and powerful armed forces of Mokujangu to attack - I mean intervene - in the war in Bagongo, in order to act as stalwarts against the Butu genocide and ensure a peaceful solution to the conflict!

Mokuhangu Always Strong!!!
"

Meanwhile, hundreds of soldiers were being loaded into planes bound for Bagongo. Their plan of entry was simple, reach normal civilian air traffic altitude, cross into the airspace of neutral Yughanna, and make their way towards the Miyazengan-held regions of southern Bagongo.
Of course, nothing in life was ever so simple, especially for a motley-crew Afruikan "power" - and for this region the first wave of Mokujangan "peace keepers" was lacking in both Ukumbe's personal Lion's Guard and his elite special forces/pseudo-paramilitary/foreign legion, the Special Security Service of Mokujangu (S3M) comprised primarily of Afrikaner "contractors" and other nationalities who veterans of bush wars across the continent.

Part 1 - politics

Postby Bagongo » Sat Nov 30, 2019 5:16 pm

*** Burui

Night has fallen over Burui, and a simple plate of the moon was all that kept the area light. Far away from the fighting currently going in Kayogoro, FROLIBO militants of the Umbumwe faction were celebrating their recent victory during Operation Cheetah. Meanwhile, the high command was making their own arrangements - ensuring the successful mobilisation of the guerilla battalion being formed in the Kigali province, and making new plans to go on the offensive. Paul Mugerwa was especially involving in them - sitting here with Col. John "Inquisitor" Rwasa, commander of Christians United Against Witchcraft.

"So, my dear friend" begun Mugerwa looking at the man he was carrying out negotiations with. John Rwasa was a tall, bald man with a large, oval head. Dressed in a simple tracksuit, he resembled nothing the feared holy warlord he was known as - keeping a perfect calm throughout the entire negotiations "Let us finalize the deal. Bagongo Christian Party will enter into a coalition with Solidarity. CUAW self defence battalion will be incorporated into the newly formed Guards Brigade, and in turn, you will receive command of said brigade. I will give you "The Terminator" as the cheif of staff. When this war is over and our country had been liberated, Christianity will be declared the official religion of Bagongo, and you will receive the post of minister of religious affairs. Is that a deal?"

"Yes, I do believe that we do have a deal..." Rwasa replied, speaking calmly. He was a man far more suited to organizing witch trials and religious or political activism than leading his men in combat - thus presence of an experienced officer such as Arnold Shaba was a welcome sight.

"I do indeed agree upon such a deal... but I have a completely different issue I wanted to rise. I wanted to rise the issue of foreign involvement in our country - and the fact that the foreigners are going to use our war of liberation to advance their greedy interests. We are going to have to choose our alliances carefully"

"I am too aware of that factor." Spoke Mugerwa. Indeed, he was firmly concerned about foreign paws slowly creeping into his country. Those nations represented both an opportunity, and a visible threat: "Do you have any suggestions?"

"We must steer clear of the Palmyri heathen, that's for sure." Rwasa's judgement on the people of the Lakambini was obvious. He considered them to be effeminate and sexually deviant, who wanted to bring their own customs into Bagongo "The last thing we need is the Palmyris exporting the rainbow deviancy into our glorious nation."

Mugerwa always liked Rwasa - even despite this man's obvious flaws. It was Rwasa that inspired Mugerwa's own rediscovery of Christian faith. But at the same time, Rwasa was no politician - he was a religious activist, who thought in ideas, not goals. Every time Mugerwa committed something that Rwasa perceived as a mistake, the "Machine Gun Preacher" delivered a fiery hellfire and brimstone sermon blasting him for that. In a way, Mugerwa admired the fact that the old fashioned preacher was so eager to act as his conscience - but at times, he was also a nuisance.

"Yet at the same time" Mugerwa replied, firmly expressing his point "We don't have to enter into close relationships with the Palmyris to use them to realize their goals. In the end, Palmyris are just like others looking at their money - and we could really use their aid fighting the army I used to command..."

"An aid of the heathen, who hate our ways and customs?" Mugerwa could already notice the fiery spark in the voice of the preacher.

"And heathen who like our oil. We don't have to accept their values."

"I still would prefer the Mcnernians. Their king at least keeps a pretense of Christianity - though even then, those people like to stab others in the back."

"And the same people used to opress our kind in this very land" Mugerwa lowered his head, deep in thought "But at least, they are fall less idealistic than the Palmyris. Of course, there is also a number of nations in the region supporting us. I do count on aid of Mokujangu - after all, I was on good terms with their president in the past. He should see the benefit."

"Because you offered him half of diamond mines in Kayogoro. Does Nyanza know about this deal?" Rwasa's voice expressed curiosity.

"No." Mugerwa firmly smiled "But most likely, he won't be around to witness it, at least not in the open air. Once I am done with BDF, I plan to get rid of him, as well as of that drug smoking cult in Mahwa. They both are a stain on our country's face."

Rwasa once again reminded himself at whom he was looking at. Mugerwa, for all his attempts at change, was still an African dictator - who thought as one, and acted as one. His methods might have become more civilized, but the former president still saw himself as the "king" of his country and had no intention of sharing political power with anyone. At least, he was open to Christian faith, and embraced it quite eagerly - but the acceptance did not suddenly change his ways.

"I will be sending soon an envoy to meet with representatives of the foreign powers." Mugerwa continued "Do you have a proper candidate?"

"I have someone in mind" countered Rwasa, still expressing his disappointment over the issue "Anderson Mabele. A businessman in Sego of Miyazenga origin. He had been a firm supporter to our cause, and a supporter of my church as well. If I trusted someone to deal with the degenerate minds of the foreigners - it would be him."

"Great. I shall contact him." Mugerwa looked into John's eyes "Remember, whatever I am doing, I am doing it for the good of our people. "

*** Kayogoro

Kayogoro Burns!

Like black birds of death, the Bagongo Air Defense Force had descended on the former capital of Kayogoro. First came smaller planes, targetting the former royal palace, engulfing it in hell of fire and brimstone. Then, like massive, evil bats came the transport aircraft; from them, fell the barrel bombs.

It was utter chaos in the streets. As Kayogoro was a former capital, considerable part of it contained modern city blocks and other durable architecture, which limited the damage; but that was all that could have been done. The bombs fell without any regard for direction, killing men, women and children indiscriminately regardless of their tribe or age. BLP militiamen had a long time to prepare to withstand an eventual siege, building underground shelters and bunkers beneath the city blocks which covered them from the wrath of the heavens; but not all of them could make it up in time. Fiery projectiles wiped out two platoons worth of troops posted to guard the presidental palace, alongside the anti air battery that failed to stop the attack.

The city centre lit up with blazing tongues of fire, which arched into the skies among wailing of the local denizens. In their hearts, anger arose... anger that was yet to maniest itself in one of most gruesome acts of the 2nd Bagongo civil war.

By the twilight, a huge crowd had assembled on the city's main square, where BLP was holding a rally. The crowd was surrounded by a group of militiamen, wearing mixture of civilian and military clothing, wearing the badges of Bagongo Legitimist Party. In the middle of the square, a large podium was put. On it, fetishes of the Nyanza dynasty, in form of stuffed bats and other animals, were put on display. While Mugerwa forbid such items under the now repealed "superstition elimination act", the house of Nyanza kept to the ancient pagan traditions of their ancestors, refusing to embrace Christianity like a massive number of their other brothers.

And then, he stepped on the podium.

Wesley "The Jackal" Nyanza was nothing like his step brother, self proclaimed "Prince" Charles Nyanza. Their father, also another self proclaimed "prince" nonchalantly produced children with many different women, and as the result, both men were different in both act and look; Charles being always well dressed and with short hair, Wesley wearing his hair in long locks coalescing over his head; with broad, exposed chin and short, wide nose. They both came from differing backgrounds; Charles took up studies in the west to become a doctor, while his brother served in BDF. The differences were visible even in the way their spoke - with Charles using perfect English, while Wesley using the local, bastardized form of the international language.

"My Miyazenga bruders and sistas!" shouted Wesley into the air "Da great injustica had been committed over me, and da members of we tribe! Me bruder, Charles Nyanza, had perished in da bombing! He is now departed to da spirit wurld, where his soul will life with our ancestas!"

A wailing cry erupted over the air. Miyazenga of Kayogoro have always felt deep connection with their leader - thus, the news of his death were a cause for a massive grief.

"As me bruder lies ded, ded by da hand of da enemy, we need to ask weselves, wat is da cause of dis? Why do da foe attacks we with so massive forca? Me answers ya, dis is because of competition of da races! Da inferior Butu want our resourcas, and dere is not enough resourcas for everyone!" it was no secret that Nyanza familly was stepped in the British ideology of scientific racism that was taught to them by the British colonial administration. Ethnographers from the united kingdom considered the Butu to be far closer to monkeys than the Miyazenga to justify more favourable treatment of the tribe "Da Butu be people of dirt and mud! Dey live in dirt because dey be less evolved dan we be, and dus we ought to have da right to rule over dem! Won't we, da Miyazenga, who have built dis land, while dey wallowed in swamps, contributing noding to it?"

A roar of excitement went over the crowd, which could see where this was going.

"I say to ya den! VENEGANCE! VENEGANCE UPON DA FOE!" Wesley Nyanza's voice turned into a roar, as militiamen started firing their guns into the air. A cacophony of shouts rolled over the square. Miyazenga crowds brandished machetes and other improvised weapons in an infuriated zeal to avenge their leader "GRAB WHATEVER YA CAN! HIT DA BUTU! CUT DA BUTU! STRIKE DA BUTU! DO NOT LET DEM GET AWAY WITH MURDER OF WE BELVED LEADA! VENEGANCE! VENEGANCE UPON DA FOE! WITH GOD, OR AGAINST GOD!"

Wesley Nyanza looked with pride at the actions of the crowd. In no time, every local TV station will be broadcasting this speech. He, like all men, held feelings men feel when confronted with a major loss. Anger. Pain. Those feelings turned into rage, and a desire for vengeance - desire shared by other Miyazenga in the crowd. Most of them had their entire families killed in the recent clashes, sharing exactly akin feelings. From their throats, came the same expression. The crowds started chanting war songs about mighty warriors of the past casting their massive spears into bodies of their foes, as two shamans have entered the scene, beginning a ritual dance than resembled a series of high jumps, shaking their ring-impaled staves in a series of wild movements, shouting curses upon Arthur Bukenya and other Butu leaders with highly pitched voices. Driven by desire to avenge their leader and their loved ones, and put into frenzy by Nyanza's emotionally packed speech coupled with the war songs, the crowds dispersed on their own. Brandishing improvised weapons they entered the homes of the local Butu, as the first screams of terror and loss were heard.

By the evening, all the Butu in Kayogoro would either be dead or driven out, and Miyazenga would have their revenge.

*** Kayogoro, shortly after.

The time had come to defend the city. As the men formed mobs tasked with purifying Kaygoro from the Butu civilians, the women and children were tasked with assisting the militiamen in setting up the fortifications. Rubble would be poured upon the roads, to make them inaccessible to vehicles; booby-traps were carefully planted, as deep within the city, in old catacombs of a church built here by the British, Wesley Nyanza was planning the city's defense alongside his staff. Despite being driven by lust for power and desire for vengeance, Nyanza was a skilled commander who perfectly understood his situation. It wasn't hard to understand where the next blow of the BDF will fall, and that it will be exactly on his city. Thus, he made precautions.

All Bagongo Royal Guard militants were ordered to conceal themselves in tunnels and bunkers that were dug under the city during the cease-fire period. To make matters even more complex, Nyanza gave orders for his men to withdraw from the initial positions on the city's outskirts, anticipating that any advancing BDF force will likely shell them first. Thus, his men were to sit in their shelters until the bombardment had subsided, and then, reoccupy them once the bombardment had ended, akin to a similar tactic used by Germans during the battle of Berlin.

Against the incoming BDF divisions stood a loosely grouped network of around nine hundred militants; but those were all veterans of the street battles in Kayogoro during the initial FROLIBO's insurgency, who had taken the city from the government without any aid from the Umbumwe, which they often disliked as much as the government, but were forced to work with for the common goal. This network was built around hunter-killer cells of couple men, fielding a mixture of of weapons in a combined fashion - perfect for urban raids and ambushes, akin to formations and tactics deployed by Chechens during the first siege of Grozny. The cells were arranged in horizontally minded companies, crewed and headed by men from separate Miyazenga clans vassal to Nyazna dynasty, further increasing the espirit de corps.

BDF was about to have a nasty welcome in the city they have just bombed...

Operation Vulcan's Leap

Postby Radimostan » Sat Dec 07, 2019 10:12 am

Vulcan's Leap

Somewhere over Yughana
Four medium-sized aircraft from the 312th Aerial Transportation Wing were cruising through the red Yughanese sky. It was early in the morning. The sun was just rising, revealing the landscape underneath.

"Such a beautiful country..." Said the co-pilot of the leading craft. "Too bad it belongs to the Yughanese."

"You should shut it, lieutenant..." Grumpily responded the flight leader. "Or the Yughanese emperor strikes us down with his powers of lightning."

"Powers of lighting, sir?"

The young lieutenant seemed extremely puzzled by the flight leader's remark. But the old grumpy major just sighed.

"Look, son. We are almost there, so let's focus on the descent. The previous flight almost crashed when they tried to land there." The major then grabbed his cockpit radio. "This is Mercury 3-1 to the rest of the flight. We are almost at the Lukuru Airfield. All crafts, prepare for landing. I repeat: All crafts prepare for landing."

The Lukuru Airfield was the most barebones airfield you could find. It had a single runway, dirty one at top of that. Nevertheless, this was one of the few airports that could operate medium cargo aeroplanes from the start. It was also conveniently located in the western Yughana, relatively close to Bagongo.

Of course, Raditians didn't get this base for free. The deal was that the Yughana government gets one million NSD, and they will get the airbase back once it is no longer needed. And of course, they would get it back in the same state they leased it.

For the upcoming mission, the ROS (Radčanské ozbrojené síly - Raditian Armed Forces) needed to have capability to operate modern aircraft in the area. As such, the current dusty runway won't do. The task of refitting the newly acquired airbase was given to the Company A of the Raditian Air Force Engineering Regiment. They would be the key to accomplishing Operation Vulcan's Leap. The operation was named after Vulcan, the Roman god of crafts.

"Mercury 3-1 to Juno." Sounded the chatter. "This is Mercury 3-1 to Juno, are we cleared for landing?"

In a moment, another voice came from the other side. "This is Juno to Mercury 3-1, you are cleared for landing."

The leading aeroplane then began its descent; the runway visually grew larger and larger, the instruments were reúprting decrease in altitude.

Then a thud could be heard. Massive clouds of dust were rising all around as the aeroplane was skidding from one end of the runway to the other in a semi-controlled fashion.

"For god sake, this is worse than any Tesland highway!"

Lukuru Airfield, Yughana
It wasn't the softest of the landings but in the end, the plane remained in one piece. Outside of a few minor bruises, nobody got hurt. Luckily, the Medical Post was set up long before this new wave arrived. And it didn't take long until the other two crafts landed as well. With varying degrees of problems, of course.

"Don't worry, lads! The next time you will be landing, it'll be on a nice flat runway..." Said Lt. Colonel Oto Zeman, the current highest-ranking officer of the deployed forces. He came over to look at the new arrivals. "The engineers are using those rapid-deployable runways, so it's a matter of hours."

Both the major and his lieutenant saluted to him.

"I really hope so, sir." Replied the major. He could only hopelessly watch, as multiple air force mechanics searched his plane. While the controls didn't report any damage, both Zeman and the major decided it would be better to double-check everything.

"Anyhow... How's the cargo looking up?" Ask the Lt. Colonel.

"As it was requested. One Air Force field infantry company and some supplies." Came from the major. Then he took a long look over the scenery. It was breath-taking. Serene and almost calming. For the first time, he could see a savannah on his own eyes. He remembered the old drawn pictures of it, from various encyclopedias he used to read as a kid. They were nothing like this.

"Was that need for an entire company really so urgent?" He asked. "It doesn't seem that you have any problems with attackers, sir."

"It doesn't matter what it seems like to you, major. The facts are facts." Was the Zeman's respond. "While our presence here is approved by the 'all-mighty' emperor, the Yughana is not as united as it may seem. It's very likely some independent warlord is already on his way here, wanting to kick our arses just for fun. Now when the Air Force infantry arrived, we at least have some MGs and mortars to turn those neanderthals."

"Sir!" Suddenly came from the mouth of the major's lieutenant. "You shouldn't talk that way about the Emperor of Yughana, or he is going to strike us down with his lightning powers!"

Lieutenant Colonel Zeman couldn't stop grinning. The lieutenant's joke that he stole from the major is not what was so funny. It was that messed up, corny line delivery.

The major was not so delighted though. "Lieutenant!" He shouted angrily. "You need to learn when to shut the fuck up!"

Official Communique of the Federative Republic of Radimostan

To: President Arthur Bukenya of the Democratic Republic of Bagongo

Your excellency. We are not sure if our last message went through. We would like you to ask for your approval in the evacuation of our embassies and other assets from your country. As said, we will want to send a military task force to ensure safety.

We should also inform you that we are ready to retrieve our assets through a more direct approach. Of course, that's only a case if the Democratic Republic decides to threaten Raditian assets.

Signed,
Villiam Zeintak, the President of the Federative Republic
Anna Jizcova, Premier of the Council of Ministers
Štefánie Pecháčeková, Minister of Foreign Affairs

Parliament Office Buildings
Lobby Of Assembly Building

The reporters were the worst as they usually were, smelling a thriller novel in fourth years, the heroism of the Army sold papers. The chairman of the Select Committee was never really one, he would merely pass them off to one of the small army of staffers who did his bidding. He looked at the metallic elevator door as it rose up to the level of the offices of Seamus Mulronan MP for Cono South. He had walked straight into an ambush of reporters coming out of the Committee room and that had been most annoying there was the communique being read out before the committee of the fact that the Secretary General wanted to have correspondence, the letter had been duly read into the roles of the committee, it would be public record when the report was released to the house. The current issue was the response. He walked out of the elevator and could feel a headache fade, lights and everything were causing problems. His eyes had been always a problem and he wore glasses from the time of being a young man. Not fit for the Royal Air Force to fly. he walked down the hall to his office and the staffer looked up from the report. “Ah, sir the report from the MoD on the situation escalating just came in.”
“Really?”

The papers were handed over, a small thing that was rather damning, the House would be kept appraised of the situation as the Prime Minister recommended that the situation be placed more in the hands of the executive.

“So the bastard desires to pull an Ayaca…and put us further in the hole internationally.” The staffer seemed concerned. “Sir….the situation is escalating rapidly.”
“I understand that but the fact is that the House must vote on any deployment. We present things to the House and the PM carries out the actions.”
“Yes sir.” He was suitably chastised and returned to his work as the Chairman retreated with the MoD assessment of OP Cheetah as it was announced. A few moments later the same staffer said that there was an interrogation live on intercept from the CRO. The ELINT Birds had passed over the region before and the current situation merited interest. And as such the Parliament was kept informed about the situation through reports. Such as the current committee. A response was sent.

Attached to this communique you will find the proposals for the intervention force which we can dispatch to put an end to the problem. Then there is also the proposals initially for a Mcnernian peacekeeping force which we believe won't be necessary anymore as the situation has escalated to the point where such a force would be a foolish endeavor. HM Forces would operate with a mandate from the OAC on this matter as the task of securing a country would mean that we would defer to local troops when we could. If the OAC is going to contribute troops then we would be with a joint HQ im told. Of course our intention is to operate alongside the Commonwealth of Palmyrion who were originally approached by yourselves and the rest of the OAC for the provision of peacekeepers.\

We know well of the FROLIBO leaderships plans, the PM plans to offer the Mugerwa administration incentive to not follow through with the reestablishment of the traditional order until further notice.

*** Karaba, Bagongo

The heap of bodies this war had created was growing higher and higher as the days went by. Besides the genocide of the Miyazenga in the Butu-controlled lands, reports were beginning to trickle in from the other side of the Luga River that elements of FROLIBO were now massacring Butu in retaliation for the catastrophic bombing of Kayogoro. Footage of roving gangs of militants hunting the Butu down and streets full of bodies had flooded social media, would be broadcast on state television and described in grisly detail on radio, sending the BDF-controlled portion of the country into a cacophony of rage. The conflict continued to escalate. Surprisingly, President Bukenya, well away from the violence engulfing the rest of the country, was unphased by this latest development. In bombing Kayogoro, he had gotten lucky in managing to kill Charles Nyanza, the head of the former ruling Nyanza dynasty and the Bagongo Legitimist Party, one of the groups that were part of FROLIBO. Rumours were that his step-brother, Wesley 'The Jackal' Nyanza, had taken over as leader and would be commanding the forces defending the city from the impending siege. The coming battle would decide Bukenya's fate, a fact which made him increasingly anxious as the various scenarios played out in his mind. Not only would the war be lost if they couldn't take the city, but Russel would swiftly end his life as well. Even worse, it would be at the hand of a white foreigner; Robert Huntley. He sought counsel with the Commander of the BLDF, General Paul Ngendandumwe, a person he knew and trusted well.

Ngendandumwe himself had thought Bukenya's decision to bomb Kayogoro was a massive mistake, handing a huge propaganda victory to the enemy and sealing the fate of the Butu in the city and surrounding area. As much as he had tried to dissuade the President and convince him to instead focus their limited military resources on taking the smaller city of Mahwa further down the River Luga, Bukenya was hell-bent on killing as many Miyazenga as possible, whatever the cost. Sensing the winds were beginning to turn against the BDF, Ngendandumwe was starting to have second thoughts about pursuing this war any further, especially with the prospect of international intervention by the Organisation for Afruikan Cooperation or other foreign powers now looming. He was close to reassessing his loyalties. He decided to keep his mouth shut for the meantime, for the sake of his family.

Bukenya looked into the eyes of Ngendandumwe, his hands clasped together. "The loss of so many innocent Butu is most unfortunate. However, it removes the risk of collateral damage from the attack on Kayogoro. We will now be free to bomb the city into oblivion and break the will of these rats without fear of killing any of our own."

"Is that any way to talk about your own people, Mr President?" Ngendandumwe retorted, "They died because you decided to order an indiscriminate bombing raid on the city in retaliation for what happened in Kigali Province. We should have taken the time to evacuate the civilians to our side of the Luga. Anyway, this doesn't make our job any easier. The likelihood is that the enemy has already caught wind of the plan to level the city and are retreating underground so they can launch hit-and-run attacks on our troops when we move to occupy Kayogoro. We simply can't afford that when we will be devoting so much of our forces and logistics to the operation."

He had angered the President. "Ngendandumwe!" Bukenya roared, standing up out of his chair, "Do you not understand that I only have the best interests of the Butu race at heart!? What you say is close to treason!" The two men locked eyes for a moment before Bukenya sat down again. "You speak like our foe is even human; they are rats. We will shoot all that remain on the streets and burn them out of their nests if necessary. There will be no alteration in our plan, and you will do as you are told. In fact, by presidential directive, I have decided I will be officially renaming 'Kayogoro' into the Rat Extermination Zone, or REZ. There is no place for that city in the future of Bagongo. Shoot everything that moves, no exceptions! When this war is over, we will demolish what remains and turn it into farmland for our veteran soldiers to retire to."

Ngendandumwe struggled to bottle his anger but understood that, for now, he had little choice and would have to play along with Bukenya's wishes. "My apologies, Mr President. I will fulfil your orders as requested." he said assertively, "The artillery is in position. The men will open fire whenever you issue the order."

"Do it immediately! I want that centre of anti-Butu vermin to be destroyed as soon as possible!" Bukenya demanded, "And leave no survivors."

*** Banimto, Bagongo

Thousands of Butu refugees, who had survived being ethnically cleansed by the FROLIBO forces stationed in Kayogoro, had flooded into Banimto on the BDF-controlled side of the River Luga. Major General Beno Kitwana, commander of the 1st Kigali Infantry Division, had established his headquarters in a warehouse on the outskirts of the town, and now the refugees were banging on the doors demanding to be given shelter. Kitwana and his forces had found themselves completely overwhelmed by the influx, struggling themselves to cope with the logistics of preparing for besieging a city. They didn't have nearly enough supplies, even bare essentials like food, clean water or medicine, to operate at full capacity. At the same time, skirmishes between the BDF and FROLIBO had broken out, the two sides exchanging fire across the River Luga. Kitwana had convened a meeting of high-ranking officers within the Division as they tried to figure out how to deal with the new arrivals.

"Major General, what are we going to do with all these refugees? There is no room for them here in Banimto." a commander of one of the infantry regiments complained.

"I know. Our resources are strained as it is, Major." Kitwana said, "We don't even have enough tents for our own men, let alone these new arrivals. Even our supply of food and water is limited. I'm sorry that this has to be done, but there is only one thing we can do. Round up every male refugee over the age of 16 and have them organised into militia forces. Arm them with anything you can find; guns, spears, bows and arrows. When the bombardment of Kayogoro is over, they'll be our vanguard when we begin to storm the city.."

The officer grimaced, "What!? You are going to use our fellow Butu brethren as cannon fodder? Our people aren't stupid. They will see through what you are planning and refuse to fight. Most of these city folk have probably never held a gun in their life, and you want to give them spears as well? Those Miyazenga rats will slaughter them."

Kitwana shook his head, displeased by the officer's criticism. He turned to the rest of the officers present in the warehouse, knowing they would be more receptive of his plan. "But at least they will die fighting, like all Butu warriors should, not weakened by malnourishment and disease." he declared, "The women and children will be spared, and the men who didn't stand to defend their homes will have the chance to redeem themselves honourably through death. If they refuse the opportunity, well then we will shoot and kill them like we kill Miyazenga vermin and traitorous collaborators!" Much to the dissenting officer's disgust, his colleagues applauded their commander. Almost instantly, the plan was set in motion.

At lunchtime, several hundred soldiers mobilised to surround thousands of refugees that had set up camp nearby, blocking off their escape routes with vehicles. They were seperated into two groups, one full of women and children, and the other men and older teenagers. Amidst a huge amount of resistance and commotion, most of the women and children were forcibly moved away from Banimto, up the road towards the slightly larger town of Myizwati. Once they were well out of sight, Kitwana himself emerged from the warehouse and climbed on top of a BTR-60 armoured personnel carrier to address the captive group of male refugees who would soon serve as the meatshield for his forces. The sudden separation of families had created a frantic mixture of anger and fear amongst the crowd. Immediately, Kitwana was quite disgusted by what he saw before him. It was obvious they were city dwellers, who had grown up in the most prosperous settlement in the country and had experienced little to no hard labour or combat. He believed they would be no loss to Bagongo. Kitwana began to speak.

"Men of Kayogoro! My name is Major General Beno Kitwana, commander of the 1st Kigali Infantry Division. We were sent here by President Bukenya himself to liberate you from the tyranny of the enemy. I understand that this has been a traumatic time for you all. The Miyazenga rats tried to exterminate you and now you have come to us for safety. I tell you now, no part of Bagongo is safe so long as a single Miyazenga animal is left alive in this land, and it is up to us brave and honourable Butu men to fight for our tribe and country. For the sake of your home, for your livelihood, for your dead friends and family and everything that our foe has taken from you, we must make a stand at Kayogoro and seek vengeance! Protected by the warrior spirits, with gun and spear in hand, I ask you to lead the vanguard into the city when the time comes! BUTU POWER! BUTU BUTU BUTU!" Kitwana shouted passionately.

Somehow, the speech had worked. The crowd responded back with chants of "BUTU BUTU BUTU!", the soldiers immediately relaxing the corral. After gathering whatever weapons they could from the village and surrounding area, Kitawana's men began distributing spears, guns, and even some muskets, bows and arrows, to the new recruits. By the evening, the makings of three brigades worth of cannon fodder were well underway.

*** Mgungu, Bagongo

An eery calmness had descended on the BDF-controlled side of the River Luga. Bukenya had given the name Operation: RAT KILLER to the plan to occupy and destroy Kayogoro, putting General Leo Bayana in overall command of the two and a half divisions that had been dedicated to taking the city. He established his headquarters in the town of Mgungu, located directly north of Kayogoro. Over the past few days, a symphony of artillery pieces had been arranged, rows upon rows of gun pointing directly at the former capital of Bagongo. In total, 36 howitzers were present, a mix of various Soviet designs including the M-30, M-46 and newer D-30. Soldiers had entrenched the artillery, building sandbag fortifications to protect the batteries. Knowing that this was going to be a prolonged affair, thousands of shells had been moved from reserve stocks to supply the guns. The plan was to gradually level the city with a creeping barrage, targetting first the commercial district on the waterfront which housed many modern, high-rise buildings and then working their way through the rest of the city.

The men now only awaited the signal. General Bayana wished to see the spectacle for himself. Looking at the skyline of the city in the distance, he could not wait to see it in flames. The moment the order came through from President Bukenya, he raised his hand and yelled "Fire!". The mighty roar of artillery firing in unison broke the tranquillity of the day, over a hundred shells vaulting over the River Luga and hurtling towards Kayogoro every minute. Panes of glass shattered and buildings collapsed as they were blown apart by the relentless volley. Cars were destroyed, and the masonry of old colonial buildings that had stood for decades came crashing to the ground. Dangerous fires simultaneously began to rip through the city, fuelled by broken gas mains. The 1st Kigali Infantry Division and 2nd Luga River Infantry Division prepared themselves to storm the city, behind the 'volunteer' militia forces that had been organised out of the Butu refugees. Meanwhile, the remnants of the 3rd Mahwan Infantry Division were minutes away from entering the satellite towns of Kiama and Mashuja to the south. The Siege of Kayogoro had finally begun.

*** Tirame, Bagongo

Preliminary reconnaissance had revealed several features of the local environment that would be beneficial to the Ushindi Brigade and their foreign allies. For one, the Palmyrians found themselves blocked off by the River Luga to the east, blocking one direction of retreat should the Butu manage to capture Camp Maginhawa. A single secondary road led out of the base, winding in a south-westerly direction through the moderately dense jungle vegetation before diverging at a junction. Going either left or right brought you through farmland and out onto the main road that ran from Kalinzi, to Tirame and then through the town of Enyela, following the course of the River Luga to the crossing further downstream at the strategically important city of Mahwa. Thousands of Miyazenga refugees from Tirame and surrounding towns had poured into Enyela, which was just adjacent to the Palmyrian base, hoping the peacekeeping forces would keep them safe from the murderous gangs of Butu that were prowling the countryside for Miyazenga to slaughter.

The front for Tirame was rather intense, with the command of both sides, Palmyrian and Butu forces were scrambling and planning to outsmart each other. The Palmyrians were setting up defences while the Butu were embedding within the city, and fortifying their control in case anything happens and or FROLIBO intervention. The men of Cyclops International, the foreign mercenaries were working day and night to restrain the Butu from doing either something stupid or nonsensical, like attacking the Palmyrian base head-on. But then, they found a way to weaken them.

During the usual patrol of the small commercial UAV, Spear-1, they found very interesting visitors who came from the direction of the Palmyrian base, it was a Palmyrian reconnaissance patrol, who came down the minor road linking to the main road stretching out of Enyela to Tirame. They started following said patrol, taking notes of their route and the area they are in, even if the UAV is seen, hindered with a laser dot or shot down, they can still figure out their location the patrol was in and send troops to respond accordingly. "Control, this is Spear-1, we got a visual on a patrol of hostiles coming in from the peacekeeper base. Sending coordinates and layout of the area now, over." Said the UAV operator on the radio in his comfy area in the Tirame base, he was using Butu soldiers in the room with him to help keep note of the area. They sent the maps and coordinates of the said area over the mail, as it was important info that needed to be spread around. With that, a meeting was called between Ushindi Brigade top brass and Mercenary commanders in the area to plan their attack on said patrol, seeing that as a way to strike them.

Former Brigadier General Keambiroiro knew what needed to be done. At the adamant suggestion of the mercenaries, he and other officers had worked to sideline Ass Nude as much as possible from the decision-making process of the Brigade, keeping their infamous commander occupied with his harem of beautiful Afruikan women. "We will organise a strike force of light infantry, moving fast on motorbikes to hit hard and fast at the enemy. We have now confirmed that the Palmyrian patrol units are travelling in wheeled, moderately armoured vehicles that will be vulnerable to anti-tank fire. The nature of the road system around here means the number of possible routes they can take is limited in scope, and all lead out onto the main road. With our Butu fighting spirit and the superior technology of Cyclops International, we are sure to win!" Keambiroiro declared confidently. He examined an approximately 50 × 50 km² map of the Kalinzi-Tirame Area, "I draw particular attention to the junction on the secondary road leading to the base. If we can effectively execute an attack here, we could have them pinned down on multiple sides."

"Seeing as they are moving in wheeled vehicles, I would suggest that we pick em off one by one, your forces with the motorbikes will travel around with RPGs, put tandem warheads on for extra damage. Mine will assemble squads with our Armored Ford pickup trucks, we will put ATGMs and recoilless rifles on them for good measure and we’ll just assemble and drive around to the junction. We’ll take positions in the woods in the area, seeing as there is a mix of dense jungle and heavy vegetation around it. They’ll have no choice but to get destroyed once we corner them from both sides. With that, we’ll have to do it quick and hard, they might have to bring back reinforcements and we’ll have to watch out and keep complete silence, or else we’ll have trouble hammering down on them." said Lt.Col Baker, the figure controlling the mercenary battalion.

"Effectively," Keambiroiro continued, "We will have to cut off all possible avenues of escape, especially their ability to retreat back to base. A significant manpower advantage on our side will be needed as well, maybe even five times what our enemy has. Presuming they follow the predicted trend of dispatching one platoon at a time, we will be facing off against forty Palmyrian soldiers at least. Maintaining the element of surprise will be crucial. I suggest we have our men camp for the night in the wilderness and wait until daytime for the signal to attack when your drones spot an oncoming patrol."

"Yes but the problem is. They switch patrols every time, if we take out one, there’ll still be another one the next day. What do we do with that? Plus the fact they might be able to call reinforcements and then we’ll have to deal with them on their way. It’ll not be easy." Lt.Col Baker said as he scratched his chin.

Image

"Well, in that case, they risk surrendering the security provided by Camp Maginhawa. Taking out a whole platoon will be a one-trick pony. The enemy will be hesitant to venture outside after that, or will even be tempted to begin evacuating from Bagongo immediately. In light of that, I want to suggest something else, a little more daring but almost certainly something our foe would never expect from us." Keambiroiro said, smiling, "As you should know by now, the River Luga flows past Tirame and Camp Maginhawa to Lake Elizabeth. I suggest that we perform a daring amphibious operation, launched simultaneously as our operation to ambush their patrols. The local fishermen here have dozens of craft that we can use to transport mortars to within range of the base. The mortars will be highly mobile, making it difficult for the Palmyrians to respond. Alternatively, we could be even more daring and land a contingent of men directly beside Camp Maginhawa and launch a brief attack to hold the enemy forces before withdrawing again."

"No no... that will be too risky. We will just weaken them bit by bit, we need ground and pound them before doing anything. Let's just focus on ambushing platoons and taking their operations out. And harass their supply lines, that's it. We will take their platoons one by one, time after time and that is it. But it could work if we wipe out said platoon and bring in more forces, that's true. Maybe we should do it, I got a few Zodiac boats we could use. I think we should just attack and withdraw, they have a whole defence perimeter in a hilly area, just pound them with artillery, fire stuff into the base from a safe distance and try to weaken them." Lt.Col Baker said.

"Indeed. Manpower is precious to them, and every man lost represents another chink in their armour." Keambiroiro said enthusiastically.

"But they got the tech and the defensive positions to back it up. They probably set up a whole fortress there, how can we ever approach them like that?" Lt.Col Baker discussed.

"The River Luga has many inlets and islands for us to conceal our forces. I imagine the Palmyrians have boats of their own, but it will take time for them to mobilise and meet our attack. We know our enemy is using drones of their own to patrol the area, therefore we will respond by deploying some of our own air-defence units to protect our men." Keambiroiro assured Baker, "Additionally, we will need to secure the village of Enyela at some stage if we want to besiege the base. There are indications that any Miyazenga subversives who survived the cleaning operation in the area have gone there to seek protection from the Palmyrians. Their continued existence is a great danger to our men, especially if they are organised into a militia force, negating our numerical advantage. Even better, if we move to take Enyela preemptively, perhaps the Palmyrians will be forced to come out of their base, knowing they can’t afford to surrender it. Those Miyazenga vermin will attempt to get inside the base itself, greatly fearing the Butu vengeance that is coming. Great strain will be put on the enemies resources"

"We need to move in a large force though, and we have to do all of the objectives as fast as possible. How can we possibly both overrun Enyela, pound them with artillery from boats and take out their recce platoon? I hope we have trained enough and big enough forces for all of this." Baker continued saying.

"Do not underestimate the superior Butu intellect and ability to fight." Keambiroiro assured his fair-skinned colleague, "In order to break the foreign enemy, we have to apply maximum pressure on all fronts in order to break their resolve. Simultaneous attacks from the River Luga, on Enyela and on their platoons will shake them greatly. Only then will they be keenly aware that there is nowhere for them to escape, and that there is nobody coming to save them either." he explained, "The men of the Ushindi Brigade are veterans of the last war with the Miyazenga enemy. They have ample experience of situations much more chaotic than this, though maybe not against such a well-equipped enemy. What we lack in technology we make up for in resolve and a desire to rid our land of the disease that has infested it."

"I believe you, but I also believe the farmers that told us about the Palmyrian base and the recon we did on said base too. Let’s just say they are preparing themselves like they are going to die tomorrow, and frankly, their paranoia does not come in a bad way... but rather in a good way, since it helps them prepare a lot. I want this to be a ZERO failure operation, the only victory we are hoping to achieve is to eliminate them completely. Nothing else and nothing less. They got technology backing them up and so far my men are evenly matched to them when it comes to that."

"Yes, but they cannot hide behind their walls forever when the castle next door is getting sacked. Securing the town will put them at even graver risk than before. The buildings there will provide cover for our own men, space for us to set up medical areas to treat the wounded and of course natural protection against Palmyrian retaliation. There will be nothing worse for the OAC-backed mission then headlines reading that dozens of Bagongolese civilians were killed by a ‘peacekeeping’ artillery barrage." Keambiroiro suggested gleefully.

"You know what, maybe I underestimated you way too much. It is a great idea, I am only trying not to lose many of my own men because they are hard to recover, and I don’t think I can pull regulars straight out of Rhidea... well, not yet." Baker agreed enthusiastically.

"As a commander, of course, you must put the welfare of your own men first. I am certain they are fine warriors, perhaps even as good as us Butu. I can assure you General Ass Nude and I will do our best to protect them." Keambiroiro promised, "Now, enough with all this talk. I will tell Ass Nude and my men about our plan and soon the demise of the Palmyrians in Bagongo will begin! Finally, we will have our revenge for the murder of Musubaho."

"Cheers to that, brotherman." Baker said as he soon left the room, notifying the mercenary personnel around Tirame to soon mobilise and prepare equipment. This was going to be a very large operation.

Mr Villiam Zeintak,
My profound apologies for not replying sooner. The Miyazenga have been interfering with our internet connection using trickery and other dark practices with help from their foreign allies. I permit the evacuation of your staff from the diplomatic missions of your country in Bagongo. I will make sure that your men come to no harm from our brave forces which are currently combatting domestic elements that desire the destruction of the Butu race. However, I warn against any use of your troops against the Butu people. Any act of aggression against them is an act of war against us all! It is my hope that your esteemed ambassador will return to our country once the subversive factions have been dealt with.

Yours sincerely,
President of the Democratic Republic of Bagongo

Zamunda, OAC General Assembly Chamber

President Schulmann presided over the Chamber where the votes to send a peacekeeping force to Bagongo and end the genocide were quietly being counted. Just an hour prior he made his case to the General Assembly, reiterating a need to act immediately and not to simply debate while thousands of innocents were being slaughtered. The votes were tallied and brought to the front of the chamber, Schulmann couldn't help but unconsciously tap his foot in anticipation as the results of the vote were read aloud by the Assembly Speaker. The President of Dahlslande was on the edge of his seat as the words came out of the Speaker's mouth:

"The Ayes have it: OAC General Assembly Resolution 165-3 has passed the Chamber and will be implemented immediately."

Commotion from inside the chamber erupted in a dramatic manner as jeers from opponents of the resolution nearly droned out the announcement. The jeers were met with clapping, of which Schulmann encouraged and joined in, a wide grin on his face as an end to the killing in Bagongo could very well be made a reality. The media back in Dahlslande would have a field day with this moment, possibly even more so over in Rhidea and South Zambiziland but with a certain negative slant to the news.

Schulmann stood up from his seat: "Fellow delegates, with the passage of Resolution 165-3, the Organization for Afruikan Cooperation has made its voice heard that the genocide in Bagongo must end. It will end." With that short statement, Schulmann lead his supporters out of the chamber and toward their offices.

Subject: Military Intervention in Bagongo

With the passage of General Assembly Resolution 165-3, military intervention is regretfully but necessarily inevitable. As such the Organization for Afruikan Cooperation gives its "official consent" for your respective countries to conduct peacekeeping operations within the Bagongo Theater of Operations (BToO.) With the looming arrival of the first contingency of the Organization for Afruikan Cooperation Peackeeping Force: Bagongo (OACPKFOR: BAGONGO,) we encourage that joint operations be conducted to immediately restrict the movement of Butu forces throughout the BToO in order to eliminate their capacity to wage further offensive operations. The First Contingency of OACPKFOR: BAGONGO will be the 12th Fighter Squadron of the Dahlslande Air Force. It is imperative that a joint airbase be established within Bagongo to effectively carry out air operations/reconnaissance.

To address the political concerns within Bagongo, the OAC presently endorses and will assist the Royal Commonwealth of Palmyrion's willingness to help reconstruct the government of Bagongo in order to create equity and eliminate the sources of sectarian violence. The OAC is also open to Mcnernian input on any future changes to the present regime in Bagongo.

OOC: I would like to thank vice for an outstanding article about the civil war in Liberia that inspired this post. Yes, outlandish choices of clothing and codenames for African militias are a real thing. I also wish to note that "General Hitler" is a psychotic, racist warlord with whose believes I by no means identify, and whose deeds I consider horrible.

Wesley Nyanza looked around himself, as his SUV drove through the city of what was once a proud and majestic capital of a nation. Bodies were laying everywhere; littered on the ruined buildings, flung across the broken shops - the bloody work of his Miyazenga countrymen. Even now, raging mobs were ravaging the city, slaughtering anyone whom they could identify as Butu with ruthless efficiency, showing no mercy to men, women and children. Butu shops, once one of few chances that a Butu man had to escape poverty, were broken, their fronts shattered and property looted. Drunken mobs were celebrating, singing war songs and drinking cheap, poorly produced palm wine - a delicacy among militants in this war-torn country. And yet, in this moment, his heart felt no revulsion; driven by anger, he willingly permitted an act which earned him a new nickname. Already in the media, countless messages were calling him "General Hitler", to join long list of popculture inspired warlords, alongside "General Ass Nude", "Colonel Tupac Shakur", "Colonel Inquisitor", "General Rambo" as Mugerwa was dubbed for his success in Operation Cheetah and "Colonel Terminator".

And worst of all, he liked it - his chest inflated by ever growing desire for vengeance upon murders of his brother.

He looked to his dress - a perfect replica of WW2 era German officer's uniform. Nyanzas never hid their fascination with the Nazis. In savage world of Bagongolese militias, outside the "establishment" factions that wore military uniforms such as BDF and Umbumwe, each militia had developed an unique "fashion" usually related to popculture, that arrived to Bagongo with the waves of internet. For Nyanza, those were the Nazis - the uniforms, the hailing, the imagery of conquest and subjugating other, inferior races were more than appealing to someone who had grown up on British theories of scientific racism justifying why the colonialist upheld system that promoted one group over another. Thus, his officer corps tended to, whenever possible, tended to wear flecktarn uniforms or other clothing formerly belonging to the German army - but when those were not available, they replaced them with various neo-nazi t-shirts, uncaring that people who designed said t-shirts usually had poor look on their own race. Other militias were not behind in terms of fashion; "General Ass Nude's" men tended to fight naked, various totems and other objects of local pagan imagery hanging on them like lights on a Christmas tree; the militiamen from Mahwa tended to style after gangsta rap, and opposing them, a Butu militia styled after the Rastafari. Finally, the ultra-christian Colonel John Rwasa wore a full blown cosplay of an imperial inquisitor from a tabletop game known as Warhammer 40 000, with a massive, tall, dark hat and imperial eagles replaced with massive crosses that announced both his faith and the desire to rid Bagongo of witchcraft once for all to everyone. To denizens of developed world such clothing seemed comical, but to Bagongolese fighters, it was a way to express their own identity and ideology. Very often, after all, music and entertainment choices were accompanied by a political ideology or religious beleives. Colourful, almost comical clothing deeply contrasted with the dark red of blood and glowing orange of fires that came out of burning houses, as untold miseries unfolded.

Leader of BLP entered a dark room, which led down to a leveller. For a couple minutes, the commander of now one of most feared militias in Bagongo, alongside with some of his men, walked through an underground tunnel wide enough for a fully grown man to pass. Then, finally, he came in the local cathedral's catacombs, where the HQ of the Bagongo Royal Guard was. Despite their at times comical appearance, these men were all professional fighters, sharpened in fires of the local civil wars. They lined themselves in front of a dark, wooden table, upon which a large map with markers was laying. Commander of each company was here, as were tribal elders and leaders of most important Miyazenga mobs.

BLP plans to defend Kayogoro.

"Dank ya for coming here!" shouted Nyanza, spreading widely his arms, speaking with the characteristic, nasal bagongolese accent, unable to pronounce "th", and with a badly bastardized grammar o the English language "As ye can all know, da stupid mud-people are dinking dat dey can dreaten deir betters! But we will show them what true fightin' spirit means! Let's review our defensive concept against most probable course of mud people's actions!"

He unrolled the map with a swift wave of hand:

"Me believes dat dere be dree main axes upon which da mud-people will attack" Nyanza continued "da soudern axis, where da remnants of busted 2nd Mahwan infantry division be advancing from. Da western axis, where the enemy will most likely attempt to cross, as da river banks to da east be to steep for da BTR to climb. And finally, da nordern axis. Da intel shows da mud people massing to cross da bridge, and we can't exclude da mechanized regiment attempting to cross da river in their BTRs. It be my belief dat whatever remains of da Mahwan infantry division be in poor shape; dus da Division's commanda will attempt to quickly attack from da soud, to seize da airfield to resupply his troops, and advance directly into the central district. Dus, my concept of operations is to defeat da 2nd Mahwan first, while containing advances from oder fronts. For dis, we have four major positions; da Battle Zone, dree disrupt zones, and a Support Zone. Da battle zone commander, step in."

A tall, muscular man wearing a totenkopf t-shirt and woodland camouflage trousers, with his head shaved almost bald, stepped in:

"Me has two infantry companies positioned against da main junctions within da city" he pointed at the map "Due to terrain, da mud-people be unable will be forced to attack across da main junctions. Two companies have taken deffensive positions oriented towards da soud, da east, and da west, and have taken positions on ground and upper floors. Dere be safehouses and tunnels linking dem, as well as IEDs planted and rubble laying on da roads. Each individual company be choosing it's fighting position. In addition to dat, da anti-tank platoon be dispersed alongside major roads. "

"Good!'' Nyanza smiled. "Da Battle Zone Soud has priority of fires. Disrupt Nord, can ya block da bridge?"

"Of course!" shouted a short, skinny man wearing a complete flecktarn uniform and a dark red armband, with spear and a shield against a white circle in the middle of it "Me has da single platoon setting up an anbush position alongside the main junction across da bridge, backed by da grenada launcher platoon. Two additional platoons be awaiting coming of da BTRs, but be ready to withdraw to pre-planned ambush sites should da enemy manage to get across da bridge. Dere be a major IED implanted on our side as well, which me detonates when da lead vehicle crosses it."

"Good. Disrupt East commanda, you be next."

"Aff!" came a short response from another flecktarn-wearing officer "As ya have ordered, me has a single platoon, reninforced with a MG section, setting up deffensive positions alongside da main road. Should da mud-people for some reason attack from dere, we be performing a delaying actions until da forces from da support zone have come, even if it costs us our lives.."

"Now ain't dat great. Disrupta West commanda, what about da forces coming from most likely crossing route?"

"Me has a single company, in preparing battle positions, facing the airport, alongside da sniper cells and da ATGM platoon. Each squad has an assigned dedicated kill zone and be ready to repeal any attacks."

"Great." "Da last be da support zone. Dere be dree platoons, in total six Type 63 MRLs and dree Type 54 howitzers facing da Soud. Additional dree type 54 howitzers be facin' da Nord. Da tanks be da priority targets. In addition to dat, me personal guard company, albeit short of one platoon, be standing in da support zone. Da guard company will be ready to bolster defences were it be need. Elder Ngoy, how be da surprise?"

"Da surprise be delivered to da airfield" smiled a grey-haired Bagongolese man "me and me boys drove it today with da trucks. BDF will enjoy what dey find on da airfield."

"If dat be all - dismissed. "

Initial engagements during the siege of Kayogoro.

Hailstorm of fire broke down shortly after the meeting. Like a flock of meteors, grenades were raining from the sky, falling on Kayogoro without mercy. Explosions tore the city apart, and soon red tongues of fire could be seen everywhere among cries of wailing women and scared children. Denizens of Kayogoro ran where they could to find shelter from the fiery oblivion, as whatever emergency services scrambled quickly to help the wounded.

The bombardment of the city had, however, consequences unintended for BDF - namely, rubble now clogging the streets. Even before the bombardment begun, rubble was being thrown on the streets by conscripted crowds of civilians, in order to restrict the enemy's freedom of movement. Now, the artillery had speed up that process. The streets were littered with boulders, effectively blocking access.

The bombardment, had, however, ceased after a while and then, on a specified frequency on the radio, a traditional war song started being played. It was less a song, more a terrifying chant, a cacophony of words about severed heads, death wishes to enemies of the Miyazenga tribe and leopards devouring their prey - but the militamen of BLP got the message. Like rats, they crawled out from sewers and underground shelters, slowly making their way to occupy the battle positions that they were designated to defend, in manner reminiscent to German anti-artillery tactics employed during the siege of Berlin, brandishing their guns bought thanks to conflict diamond they have mined around the Kayogoro.

There was no more waiting. The siege of Kayogoro had begun. Nyanza stood in his underground bunker, looking at the map, maintaining a careful grip on his radio.

Meanwhile, like a long, coiling snake the first elements of recently mauled 2nd Mahwan infantry division were coming. It's commander had concluded that the only way in which his battered force can acheive any success is to launch a quick, decessive strike against the city centre. Thus, he had divided the tank battalion and split the tanks across each battalion. The first battalion had to strike alongside the main highway; the second would take one of the major roads, then turn attack from the opposite direction, flanking the defenders that the first battalion had drawn out. As they passed the road, dogs started to bark, and civilians fled; though BDF's soldiers were not paying a lot of attention to civilians as of now, far more concerned with a possible contact. A mother pointed at the vehicles to her child, as she drew a simple nokia phone.

"Try to count the vehicles" she whispered, as she started texting the message, which then quickly made it's way to the BLP's HQ.

"Leopard, dis be Lynx actual. Da mudmen be movin vehicles for overwatch, dismounting da infantry and attempting to cross da bridge. Me sees a force at least two companies in strengt, over!" Indeed, on the opposite end of the bridge, trucks were stopped and infantry was being dismounted. Initial elements slowly started crossing, infantry walking alongside both sides of the trucks. It was obvious to the commander that a single company indented to cross first, and after it the two remaining ones were going to follow.

"Leopard, dis be Lion actual. Mudmen infantry had dismounted and be advancing against our positions. Scouts be reporting dat a second company is trying to bypass us, over!" Indeed - led by tanks - the sole devices providing them protection - the leading elements of the infantry battalion have entered the town. Immediately, however, they ran into the rubble - and disoriented BDF soldiers realized that amount of routes they can take is severely limited. Not to mention - they did not know that, but most of them were carefully prepared kill zones.

Nyanza quickly assessed the situation. It was obvious to him that BDF was trying to cordon him. No time to think - it was time to act.

"All stations this is Leopard actual" he held his breath for a bit "Engage the targets. Jaguar Two, surpress the forces entering the city alongside the main junction, break! Jaguar one, shift surpression to the same area as Jaguar One, break! Jaguar three, suppress the infantry battalion entering from Mpenda, break! Jaguar four, engage da forces on da bridge, over!"

And then the hell broke out.

A series of U-shaped ambushes activated, militamen firing from less than 200 meters in order to prevent BDF from using their own artillery. It was swift- usually U-shaped ambush - suddenly, from all directions automatic weapons fire came, GPMPGs and LMGs suppressing the infantry and separating it from the tanks. Then, a hailstorm of RPGs coming from the roofs were fired at the tanks, coming at them like majestic lances of fire. Soon, the explosions rocked the city, as panicked infantrymen hid behind whatever they could find, and as wreckages of burning tanks were slowly filling the streets, the moment when the infantry's fire was joined by the anti tank weapons. IEDs were detonated, spreading panic and confusion among black, rising fumes of destroyed vehicles.

Meanwhile, the troops entering the city alongside main junction were targetted by indirect fire. Two MRL platoons were firing at the forces coming from the direction of the Kayogoro airport, while a single artillery platoon targetted the units entering from Mpenda.

On the opposite side of the city, the bridge was rocked by a massive explosion as several dozens of kilograms of TNT, went off in the middle of the advancing infantry company, ripping the bridge to shreds under their very feet. Soon after, the AGL platoon coupled with company's weapons platoon joined the fire, their explosive weapons being a perfect counter for the soft-shelled trucks.

There was no turning back. Siege of Kayogoro was on for good.
