(OOC) Help Wanted: Education of Hintuwani Monarchs

Postby Hintuwan » Sat Jan 06, 2024 12:40 am

Hi NS! Long time no see.

To make what this thread is about brief, essentially I'm in the process of writing this incomplete factbook about the characteristics of each of my nation's royals (for those unfamiliar with Hintuwan's "crowned republic" form of government, you can read all about it here). And I need your help to determine their prior educational background! What I'm looking for are in-lore universities from your NS that:

  1. Have a long-standing educational/pedagogical tradition (like your NSes' equivalent of Harvard or Eton, basically. ICly the Lakan isn't gonna send his kids to a no-name school in the middle of nowhere, sorry.)
  2. Are exotic, at least for Hintuwanis (the more unique the better)
  3. Are not averse to educating future royals of Hintuwan (so ideally no communist schools or schools that promote radical ideology, but exceptions can be made)
  4. Have been the focal point of a major RP that is currently going on or has happened in the past (this is optional, but still, the more well-known it is already in NS the better)

One of the most important things about a nation's royals is their educational background. Foreign schools, especially those in developed countries, offer high-quality education and exposure to diverse cultures, ideas, and perspectives. Also, studying abroad allows Hintuwan's royals to build international networks with potential allies of Hintuwan. Historically, this practice was part of modernization efforts in Hintuwan. Exposure to foreign ideas and technologies was seen as crucial for the development of the country, and monarchs were expected to lead by example in embracing progress.

I'm open to any proposals that meet the above criteria! In said factbook you'll find a placeholder educational background which should be ignored for all intents and purposes, that's just my default if I can't find anyone willing to receive them. You will also find their birthdays and general characteristics (their likes and dislikes), which you should reference if you can (e.g., Prince Romulo likes sports so if you have an in-lore school with a strong sports curriculum that would be a good school for him, etc.). These characteristics are intentionally broad so I doubt there will be any trouble in finding a good fit for my NS' royals.

Please post any elementary, high school, or university level schools that you would be willing for Hintuwan's royals to be educated in! If there are any, also post a link to any factbook/dispatch/post that describe or relate to said school. You may also specifically name which royal you think would be a good fit for said school. Also, take note of their birthdays - this will determine what year specifically they will go to your school (all of this is in the past).

Final decision of course rests with me. If your school is accepted, I will write it into my factbooks and it will become part of the official IC lore of Hintuwan. By sending a proposal, you agree that I can reference your school whenever the royals' educational background is brought up in RPs and factbooks and such.

The Imperial University of Kaitohura might be what you're looking for. This is one of Tangatarehua's most prestigous universities--so much so that it's where much of our own Imperial family were educated, including the Empress.

Other decent universities that they could have attended include the University of Rakipa, University of Tamaki and University of Wharekorana.

The other elite school worth mentioning is Te Kura Emepaia, a primary-to-high school in Whakaara which is reserved for members of the nobility only and is again where much of the Imperial family are educated. The school may have been willing to let Hintuwani royalty in temporarily as exchange students, as long as it happened from the 1990s onwards when the school became a little more open to people who aren't direct members of Tangatarehua's upper classes.

So if you like, feel free to use any of the above.

The Royal Kimini University of St. Mekonnen the Great is, by far, Kimina's most prestigious learning institution. From 1243 to 1689, Kimina was a tributary of the southern Tavlyrian continent's Grand Terim Caliphate. During this time, the Kimini Christian religious identity and Coptic cultural identity were largely suppressed by the Caliphate. Sadiki V, reigning monarch at this time and the person most responsible for Kimina's independence, sought to restore this identity. To do so, he became the patron of large-scale linguistic, architectural, and academic programs. The Royal Kimini University of St. Mekonnen the Great was founded in 1701, named after a Kimini ruler who had reunited the Kimini Apostolic Church following a major political schism.

The RKUSMG was founded primarily for royals and nobles, using pedagogy to ensure competent leaders in the future. Over time, the school expanded admissions to competent members of the lower classes, including offering scholarships to the poor. This was largely in attempt to bring about technological and ideological growth in the nation. The university continued to maintain its reputation as an esteemed institution.

In the twentieth century, the university was closed by the Kimini Soviet Socialist Republic's communist government. Trade and vocational schools largely took over the sphere of higher education. Following the restoration of the monarchy in 1985, Akil IX, who currently reigns as king, initiated a similar program as Sadiki V had so many years before. Among his reforms was the royal family's restored patronage of the school and of cultural projects in general

The university focuses on classical education. Partially owing to its history as an attempt to restore and build Kimini culture, its academic focus is largely on humanities, with subjects including theology, philosophy, rhetoric and oration, history, language arts, political theory, and visual and performing arts. The social sciences are also represented, mainly in the form of linguistics and archaeology. Prince Liang would likely be the best candidate, but a background in philosophy and political theory would be useful for any heir apparent or noble.

The RKUSMG has an overall domestic and international reputation approximating that of an Ivy League school. Entry requirements are slightly lower than most institutions of that level and have been throughout history. The school has a program focused specifically around bringing in international nobles and royals. Most students are everymen, but there is a significant-enough campus community that nobles and royals wouldn't feel isolated.

Should you choose the RKUSMG, I give you full authority to reference the school as needed in whatever IC material you have. If you need further details, please TG me and I'll make sure you get them.

The Imperial University of Rome has a tradition dating back to 1303 an is one of the largest and one of if not the most prestigious universities in the Imperium. Almost all members of the Imperial family have attended the university as well as many nobles and notable people and the university is known for hosting the Imperial Library, one of the largest collection of manuscripts in the world with items dating back to antiquity.

The University offers much in terms of education with programs from Theology, to Political Science, Mathematics to Micro-Biology, and the University also has a large endowment and patronage as well as a excellent international reputation on par with schools such as Harvard University.
The University has a large and beautiful campus located in the Città Universitaria, not to far from the Imperial District in the Municipia Tiberinia and from Central Rome, with the Campus itself being very secure with its own police and public watch station and Police being present at all entrances to the Campus District.

As of 2018, for four consecutive years the University has ranked first in the world for classics and ancient history, no doubt due to its massive collection which is frequently loaned from by the Imperial Museums and world renowned researchers and professor, with many such educators working at the university.

The University also has ranked 1rst in Imperia for the Arts, Law, Social Sciences, Economics, and Literature for two years.

Other Prominent Universities in Imperia are the Imperial University of Constantinople, University of Paris, and the University of Barcelona.

You may use any of the information provided above in your factbook and do tg me for any questions and more information

I'd offer the Peking University in its namesake city. Granted, I haven't made any RPs set there but it's a big enough name for your purposes and would be a good RP opportunity should you decide to do one with me.

If you want any of your nobles to be a superhero or trained in the spiritual arts, I'd suggest the original Mutiara Spiritual Academy, a high school for those aspiring to be superheroes or work in related fields. Keep in mind that R1 is 28 years older than our irl universe, so if you were to enroll a student now, (s)he would be in the class of 2051.

Certainly a fair thing to consider. Despite being sponsored by the royal family, which are EO, there wouldn't be any serious barriers. The RKUSMG is an international institution and thus doesn't really have the impetus to discriminate based on culture/religion/etc. A lot of the nobles and royals being recruited are from neighboring monarchies in Tavlyria, the majority of which are Islamic, and other monarchies elsewhere in Teremara, a good portion of which would be Roman Catholic or Non-Christian. The majority of the students are not nobility or royalty, coming from wealthy families instead. These families would be religiously diverse, Muslims, Christians, atheists/agnostics, and the like. Kimina has a small minority of Zoroastrian families which are very wealthy and would also probably have students at the university. The only thing that might not be a Roman Catholic's favorite is Orthodox bias in the theology courses and neoplatonic leanings in the philosophy courses.

Postby Galimencia » Tue Jan 09, 2024 12:35 pm

Most elites of the United Kingdom of Galimencia are educated in a handful of privately run independent fee-charging boarding schools called 'public schools'. They are regarded as the most prestigious school-level educational institutions in the country. Although there are over 20 public schools throughout the country, two are most well known: Eton College and The Harrow School. These two schools have educated members of the Royal family (the current King of Galimencia, Edward II was educated at Eton while his heir presumptive was educated at Harrow), Prime Ministers (the current Prime Minister Lord Kauvin is an alumni of Eton), generations of aristocrats, politicians, bureaucrats, diplomats, authors, scientists, academics, sportsperson, and the list goes on. In short, a large portion of the creme de la creme of the Galimencian society have studied in either of these two schools. Both Eton and Harrow are some of the oldest educational institutes in the country which are still active to this day.

Located on the outskirts of the town of Eton (and it's namesake), Eton College has an enormous campus. The boarding houses are some of the best in the whole world, filled with luxury and opulence, while the classrooms are equipped with latest technologies to make education more simpler and futuristic. The same goes for Harrow as well. Steeped in tradition, the main building of the Harrow School is exotic and beautiful. The boarding houses retains it's historical touch and is filled with luxury as well. While the classrooms are designed to represent the interiors of medieval castles, but features modern technologies as well. Both of them have a number of large and well equipped playgrounds, and extensive focus is given on developing physical, cultural and academic prowess of the students. So both these schools are an interesting mix of the old and the new, of traditions and technologies.

The other public schools, although not as prestigious as the aforementioned two, are nevertheless some of the most sought after educational institutions in the country. Some of the other prestigious public schools are Winchester College, Rugby School, Charterhouse, Westminster School, Shrewsbury School, Riverwood College (this one is fictional), Tonbridge School and Bedford School. All these schools are ideal places for the Hintuwan royalty to educate themselves. They have long and storied history, alumnus who have excelled themselves in varied fields, strong focus on education and are places frequented by the who's who of the Galimencian society. Keep in mind that all the public schools have rich sporting heritages. Rugby, Eton and Harrow probably have strongest sporting cultures among all the public schools. Foreigners willing to attend these schools need no separate permissions, except a valid visa and a permit from the Galimencian government.

But it would be fraudulent to not talk about some of the drawbacks of these institutions. They are exceptionally costly (this should not be a problem for the Hintuwan royal family I suppose), have a somewhat strict dress code (yes, all of them do) and are boys-only institutions (that means only boys are allowed admission into these schools). But considering the fact that the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages, we hope to welcome the Hintuwan royals into the Galimencian public schools. It will be an honour.

Since Galimencia is based on RL Britain, therefore most of these names are taken from the real world.
IC name is United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.

OP, what about your royals recieving a more traditional or aristocratic education, in the style of homeschooling? While TurtleShroom has a few universities, a person of that kind of status and wealth would be given private tutors and special, hands-on settings with small "classrooms" alongside the nation's elite.

TurtleShroom is an unique educational decision because of both the practicality (TurtleShroomers teach trades and mathematical and reading literacy, for example), and because of the exotic background that is both a nation shared across three species (men, mushrooms, and turtles), as well as religious fundamentalism. TurtleShroom isn't a place to party if you are not into family entertainment, as the nation is a dry state and authoritarian social conservativism is the law, but sending your royals to TurtleShroom would be a life lesson in character building, humility, and what it means to be Noblesse Oblige.

Indeed, while it can't offer the breadth and advanced quality of another nation, you will receive a personalized and Christ-centered belief system for your people to grow up to be a true "People's Lakan", with an orientation to the peasantry and the consent of the governed. With the exception of a specific ethnic group, the noblemen of TurtleShroom all have commoner backgrounds.

Are your royals not Christian, or were raised Christian but became unbelievers? No problem! Even the weird "a Hintuwan man was crucified while Jesus moved to Hintuwan and sired the royals" cult has a place in TurtleShroomian religious freedom! False religions, or the lack of belief in any divine being, are protected and tax exempt just like Christians.

TurtleShroom is also a rich melting pot of culture: TurtleShroomer Whites are Slavic, but the country was founded jointly by English Baptists and Russian folk Protestants (akin to Puritans) and holds combinations of both nations. The arrival of the Dixies, descendants of the old American Planter aristocracy, and their large-scale funding and influence shifted TurtleShroomian culture to the American Southeast by the twenties. One-third of TurtleShroom is Oriental, with the Tsaos native to the continent adjacent TurtleShroom and the Sino-Japanese Union's Orientals (Greater Evil Imperial Japanese Dystopia) being descended from a Pan-Asian dominion that controlled Indochina, China proper, Japan, and even eastern Siberia.

The Western Hospean city of The Birn is known first and foremost for it's no nonsense attitude to the government's authority which has led to no shortage of violent uprisings and protests. The second thing it is remarkable for is the fact that the "city" is just several university campuses and buildings rolled into one dissenting whole. Probably so they would leave everybody else alone.

However, the university's and colleges that make up The Birn are some Hospe's most prestigious schools. The following schools are regularly featured in top five lists and end up on numerous Pinterest boards.
University of Foxhaven Is known for their incredible sailing and rowing programme alongside having served as the alma mater for many members of the nobility and centrist and republican political household names.
Marchioness University was the first Hospean institution to have a computer on it's premises and continues to lead the country in scientific disciplines. It has served as the alma mater of much of the northern hospean nobility as well as many historic members of the royalist party having called it home.
Azura University The oldest of The Birn's schools and the second oldest continuously functioning university in Hospe ( if we were to factor in the universities that stopped functioning, it would be the third oldest).
Azura University was founded around the ancient imperial library of the Omirian Empire and for centuries, the students and professors have served as custodians of centuries worth of world knowledge.

Note: Foxhaven and Marchioness have a longstanding rivalry. Their parts of the city are separated by a canal around which all sorts of shenanigans ensue on founders' days, after game wins, national holidays etc.
A Foxhaven graduate would feel very strongly about Marchioness and vice versa. Azura and the other smaller colleges stay out of it usually but have been known to take sides.

Princess Ai would be highly regarded at Marchioness, the northern ducal families of Edencourt and March(whose ancestor founded the school) would probably ensure that their children take her under their wing and they are generally very popular. The ruling house and the ducal family of Raimi would also want to make nice and their children move in a lot of the same circles as the aforementioned two although they prefer Foxhaven and Azura for higher education. In everyday life, she wouldn't be treated too differently from the average prince or duchess, people would be a little more polite due to the fact that she is a foreign royal.

Despite, the fact that many of Marchioness' most popular graduates are proper royalists, the school's curriculum doesn't take an official stance and tries to remain unbiased so depending on what the princess was like before, she shouldn't change too much except maybe a bit more confident and argumentative(if applicable). Politically, she might be influenced by the Edencourts and Marches who unofficially support the royalists and have a lot of sway at the school but other than wanting royals to be entrusted with more administrative power, Hospean royalists still highly value democracy and personal freedoms so again nothing should change too much.

How would you describe your nation's relationship with Hintuwan?

I imagine Hospe would have a very chill relationship with Hintuwan. They both rely on agriculture a lot and have solid tourism sectors so there's probably some economic solidarity. However, the fact that Hospe is larger and still considers itself a major power might lead some Hospeans to look down on Hintuwan a bit but in an older sibling type of way.

The University of Upsæl is the most prestigious higher learning institution in Emerstari. Established in AD 1103, the modern campus sits on some 1500 acres of land in the hills north of the old city of Upsæl, overlooking the ocean.

Academically, philosophy is by far its strongest program, followed by law, linguistics, and mathematics.

Lontok XII could pursue a degree in political philosophy, Ilisha in feminist philosophy, or Maya in environmental law—or something else related to those.

Sports-wise, the university boasts strong programs in polo, cross country, Emerstarian football, and sailing.
