We are a tiny island nation, keenly aware of how we could be invaded, so everyone who has served in the military, and who has not been convicted of a felony or is between arrest and verdict, is not only permitted, but even encouraged, to own a firearm that requires an action (pump, bolt, lever, single-action revolver, etc) between each trigger pull and practice with it regularly. Ammunition must be kinetic only, with no incendiary or explosive charge carried, which prevents citizens from owning grenade or rocket launchers, as well as mortars. Military service is compulsory for all male citizens from age 20 to 23, and includes small arms training, even for the non-combat roles that conscientious objectors are assigned to. This allows the active duty Coast Guard, Air Guard, and National Guard to be supplemented by ordinary citizens in case of invasion or attack.
The constant threat of invasion is one factor that has kept Newplym a pretty tight-knit community.

There is a mental health support line contact number stamped on all firearms sold on the island.

Regulated hunting is also permitted in the Forest Basin.

In Domacria, citizens can legally own semiautomatic pistols, but they are limited to three per household, and require a thorough federal background check, mental health screening, and paid training class, which features aptitude and accuracy tests that both must be passed with relatively high scoring minimums.

In the case of long guns, they are limited to two per household, but do not share the same legal requirements. This is because citizens cannot legally own any type of automatic rifle in Domacria, only action rifles (lever, bolt, etc). These are less restricted because of their more-complex and skill-based nature, but still require a background check and mental health screen to acquire. Federally-funded classes are available at state community centers that offer basic action rifle training, with a minimum entry age of 16. These are mainly to encourage hunting, and so a percentage of the populace can use a long gun in the case of a land invasion by one of the state's bigger, non-island enemies.

Just because someone else mentioned this, Domacria's constitution outlaws any kind of military draft. Drafts are seen as morally bankrupt and complete failures of the state to maintain peace and security.

Colossal modern island nation in the North Atlantic. Ruled by a compassionate yet slightly-unhinged king, with a very isolationist yet empathetic populace. Notable characteristics: terrifyingly mighty air force and navy, world famous cars, legendary blend of wildlife.

Citizens in Turaifa are permitted access to firearms for purposes of self-defence, hunting or pest control.

Most popularly owned are shotguns and handguns, though in the rural desert areas, many landowners also possess semi-automatic rifles.

Fully automatic guns and machine guns are banned, yet it is well-known that many members of the upper class have access to military grade weapons such as Kalashnikov-type rifles, AR-type rifles, and submachine guns such as the MP5 or Uzi.

Juansonia recognises the inalienable right of all persons to use force in self-defense, and the restrictable right to keep and bear arms for any lawful purpose. Any restrictions on the latter must serve a compelling state interest without a practiceable alternative which curtails less on people's rights.

Juansonia has implemented a National licensing system and mandated serialisation of firearms made to be sold on the Juansonian market. However, prefectural and municipal laws (such as the hypothetical equivalent to an AWB) have been preempted across the entire country.

Juansonia defines a long gun as a firearm with a barrel of 300mm length or longer, and a handgun as a firearm with a barrel under 300mm length. "Short revolver" refers to revolver handguns, while "Long Revolver" refers to revolver-action long guns.

Firearms licenses are divided into several categories:
X: Placeholder for when a permitholder does not have a category A-F license.
A: Single-shot firearms (including multiple barrels), manual-repeater long guns(bolt action, pump action, lever action, single-action long revolver)
B:Category A, plussemi-automatic long guns, double-action long revolvers
C: Category A, plusmanual-repeater handguns (bolt action, slide, single-action short revolvers)
D: Categories B and C
E: Category D, plus semi-automatic handguns and double-action short revolvers
F: Category E, plus automatic, burst-fire, and select-fire arms
G: Explosives, incendiary ordinance, and firearms with over 20mm bore
S: Supressors

To get aCategory A license, you must do the following:
  • be 18 years old, begin service in the Juansonian military, have been enrolled in a weapons training program at secondary school, or have a foreign license equal or greater in what is allowed.
  • Apply for a license at a police station, a military postal facility or recruitment office, the applicant's secondary school, or at a Juansonian embassy or consulate
  • present national ID or passport, provide proof of legitimate income(students are exempt, as are those gaining license through military), declare fixed address (military exempt), and sign paperwork
  • pass criminal background check
  • If not a Juansonian citizen, declare no ill will to Juansonia and the government thereof
  • pass a mental health history check (we only check if you are a threat to others, this part can be contested in court)
  • pass, or provide proof of passing, an examination on weapons safety, use, and storage.
  • prove ownership or access of a weapons safe that meets standards, or declare no intent to acquire a firearm until the license is updated.

The purchase of firearms (with the exception of category A firearms in some prefectures) requires a criminal background inquiry, which can clear in as little as five minutes. Private transfers are also subject to this requirement, with the exception of supervised lending and non-supervised family lending.

The process for transferring ownership of a firearm is as follows:
  1. The bestower and recipient agree to transfer a firearm.
  2. In person, the recipient presents their license to the bestower, who verifies the recipient's identity.
  3. if applicable, the bestower initiates a criminal background inquiry of the recipient and waits for it to clear. If it shows gun-prohibiting activity, the transfer must be cancelled. If it clears or takes longer than 80 hours to process, the transfer can continue.
  4. If the recipient and bestower were separate during that time, the recipient's identity is re-verified.
  5. The firearm's ownership is transferred in person.
  6. The bestower notes the transfer in applicable registries.

In 1996, when La Ciudad de San Augusto passed a complete ban on automatic firearms, suppressors, and "assault weapons", that ban was quickly overturned by the Supreme Court finding that it violated preemption. The San Augusto Metropolitan Police Department attempted to enforce it anyways, so the 37th Bicycle Infantry Brigade, 4th Division, was deployed to ensure that federal law was enforced. The occupation lasted until 9 Jan 1997.

edit: most people by the age of 21 either have a category D license or are issued a weapon (either due to their work or from after their year of national service)

Rather than approving or banning entire classes of weapons, the Ministry of Public Safety (MPS) maintains of list of firearms approved for public ownership. Typically the MPS only approves weapons with limited magazine size and no automatic capability. Most revolvers and pump-action shotguns are ok. Semi-automatic handguns chambered .45 and below, with less than 15 magazine size, are usually on the approved list as well. Rifles are more scrutinized. Automatic rifles and rifles with a firing speed comparable to that of an automatic rifle are never approved. But if a rifle is obviously designed for hunting or sport shooting, rather than warfare, it usually will be approved.

The approval process is extremely sluggish. Most approved firearms are more than a decade old, but the MPS is slowly catching up with its backlog. It only examines a firearm if somebody, either a manufacturer or a private citizen, specifically requests it be added to the list. There are also some very arbitrary inconsistencies in what guns are approved vs not. Overall it's a flawed system but there is little pressure to reform it.

To purchase a firearm you must have a firearms license. License holders must be 20 years old and pass an extensive safety course. Applicants must present no clear danger to the people or national interest of Lancov (i.e. no violent criminal record, be of sound mind, not a member of any extremist groups). Members of the military and police can skip the safety course as it's already part of their training. License holders must take a refresher course every 5 years.

All sales and transfers must be reported to the MPS by the seller but the firearm itself does not need to be registered.

-be 25+ years old
-pass a special exam
-go to a psychologist every year (his job is to check, if you are mentally healthy to use a firearm)

Every man keeps his service weapon from his time in the military, unless discharged dishonourably. All able-bodied men end up in there, so they all have a firearm.

There are other ways to legally obtain a weapon:
Women aren't drafted into military duty, but they can acquire a firearm license through picking up hunting or sports shooting, as can anyone above the age of 16 by entering into these activities. A license for keeping large bladed weapons is available without activity-bound limitation. If an adolescent below the age of 16 wishes to use a weapon, the license is handled via a legal guardian, who vows for the eligibility of the minor and takes full legal responsibility. Children below the age of 12 are barred from any weapon access except for private property under immediate custody of a legal guardian, who takes full legal responsibility.
All licenses are subject to some limitations and checks regarding sound mental and physical state and safe storage.

Blunt and small bladed weapons or tools do not require a license. Concealed carrying of weapons is illegal under all circumstances. Carrying a weapon in public is restricted to serving military and police as well as temporarily for registered individuals partaking in cultural activities like parades or medieval fairs.
Carrying blunt or bladed small tools is not regulated beyond house rules and city ordnances.

The Right to Keep and Bear Arms is protected by the Constitution. All adults are guaranteed the unlimited and unrestricted right to purchase, own, make, keep and bear firearms.

Any attempt to restrict, limit or regulate this right is punishable by death as a violation of 18 GMC 242, Deprivation of Rights Under Color Of Law.

The United Realms has some of the most restrictive laws and policies regulating guns/firearms, as its citizens are prohibited from owning and possessing firearms. Only law enforcement officers, security personnel, and members of the military are allowed to do so; upon resignation, retirement, termination, or discharge, all are required to forfeit all firearms.

Karvenian firearms legislation is some of the most liberal in the EU.

A license is required to purchase and own firearms, and this is granted provided that the applicant is not a convicted criminal, sex offender or a member of a terrorist organisation.

Acceptable reasons to own firearms are self-defence, target shooting, pest control and for collections. Prohibited firearms are fully-automatic weapons, such as the M16 or AK-47.

Concealed and open carry is permitted, providing that it does not cause a public nuisance or distress. For example, openly-carrying a firearm in an airport or movie theatre would be considered a public nuisance or threatening behavior.

In the Kingdom of Kerolon, people are allowed to own firearms, but must obtain a license to do so. Obtaining a firearm license requires mental health screenings and criminal record evalutations; poor mental health and/or a criminal record is usually grounds for being denied access to a firearm.

In terms of displaying the firearm, most public places prohibit open carry. However, open carry is permitted in more rural areas or in places where it is explicitly allowed.

Any adult not judged mentally incompetent by a court can own any firearms they like on their own property. In order to take them out in public they must pass a proficiency test and a written test on the type of firearm they wish to carry (pistol, rifle, shotgun, black powder antique, automatic). Municipalities can also restrict the types of firearms publically allowed within their limits. One can transport firearms to another person's property (with the owner's permission) without a license as long as they are carried unloaded and in a container not accessible to the occupants of the vehicle.

While firearms are not completely banned, they are heavily restricted.

Before being able to purchase or possess a firearm, one must submit an Firearms License application at their local Constabulary station. The police will conduct a criminal record check and mental health history before granting the license. If there are any questionable circumstances in the application, police are empowered to check additional references and question immediate household members as to whether the person is suitable to possess firearms.

The license holder must indicate the type(s) of firearm(s) intended to be purchased, a "suitable purpose" for owning each firearm (hunting, target shooting, pest control, self-defence, etc.), and how the firearm will be secured or stored when not in the immediate possession of the owner.

The Constabulary is empowered to check that a person's firearms are legally stored, but only pursuant to a search or arrest warrant.

Firearms are heavily regulated and licenses per weapon "tier" must be renewed every few years as well as background checks.

As mentioned, firearms are restricted into tiers instead of types, where barrel length, caliber strength, fire rate, ammo capacity, defined purpose such as hunting or self-defense, and modularity amongst other things are taken into account instead of weapon designation so manufacturers can't subvert the rules by creating "undefined" firearms.

For example, your weakest handguns would be Tier 1s, while AR style rifles are Tier 4 and have the most restrictions to attain for retail sellers.

Consumer sold firearms typically have the longest barrels, the weakest calibers, all single fire with a minimum and varied trigger pull weight to prevent rapid fire, and limited attachments. They are typically designed not to pierce police body armor, which is not sold commercially, though consumer grade alternatives exist.

Police firearms use the same sort of armory modern day north-western police forces use. They alo carry less lethal weapons like tazer guns as part of standard carry.

Military uses the most advanced firearms that retail and law enforcement have no access to.

Osuwa is known for its very liberal policies regarding firearms, with most citizens being able to own firearms without facing many obstacles. In some states and interstellar colonies, background checks and licenses are required to evaluate criminal records and mental health, but these tend to not be very strict.

Osuwa's firearm freedom can be attributed to the fact that the right for citizens to own firearms is considered enshrined in Osuwa's Constitutional Articles. This makes it difficult for bills regulating firearms to succeed, at least on a national level.

Access to firearms is restricted in both kind of arms you can own. The most common long arms are hunting shotguns and rifles, revolvers and semiautomatic pistols.

Also people to get an arm must this be registered. You have to register your arms fate (purchase, sale, lose or deactivation). You cannot buy ammo or guns without license.
People need first to own an arm. To get it: 1st be over 18. 2nd have a permit. To have arms license you mustn't have criminal record, mental health issues record, pass a drugs and psychological test. This test must be done each time you renew the license. You will lose it in case of committing a crime. You cannot get your license back until your probation ends.
Then you must issue an instance explaining why you want an arm. Like you are jeweller or you work in private security and you need to wear arms. Or just you always wanted to.
With the license you have to a weapons safety course.
With you license on hand you can buy an arm. With the farm you must get a civil responsibility insurance to cover any accident you can have.

Any adult citizen of the Union of Democratic Martian States may acquire and possess firearms and ammunition of Class II* or lower, given the following conditions:
  • Completion of the Basic Defensive Competencies training program and written exam**
  • Criminal record free of violent or gang-related crimes
  • No evidence of active addictions or dependencies on judgement-impairing drugs, as assessed by two physicians
  • No evidence of active mental illnesses that may impair judgement, as assessed by two psychiatrists
  • Upon purchasing a new firearm, present proof of the previous two conditions from within the past 2 years
Firearms may be seized if the owner commits a violent or gang-related crime, exhibits new drug abuse, or exhibits newly-active mental illness that may impair judgement. In the latter two cases, the firearms are withheld until the owner can demonstrate evidence of recovery and good health. Unlawful ownership of weapons is punishable by up to 5 years of imprisonment and rehabilitation, with possible revocation of firearm ownership privileges.

*Firearms of Class II and lower exclude assault weapons, automatic firearms, handheld continuous-beam weapons, and any weapons restricted to military use.

**All able-bodied adult male citizens must complete the 6-month Basic Defensive Competencies program and exam, which instructs on proper and safe firearm use, self-defense, survival skills, personal health and hygiene, practical manual skills, and civil defense. This program is also open to able-bodied adult female citizens who are interested in participating.

Minors, under the supervision of a competent adult, may operate legal firearms at designated shooting ranges, or for hunting.
