So for some reason I ended up watching this again. Which reminds me, why did I go with the Bofors m/1948 L/70 post-NotWWII again? <.<

The 3" rapid-fire guns ended up wieghing a bit too much, and the navy usually had a truckload of leftover 40's.

Also, those things called supersonic sea-skimming missiles. The 3" L50 had problems tracking such speedsters.

The Pahlynx CIWS became a thing as Sea-Sparrow made the range of the 3" CIWS moot*, and the problem became more an issue of saturating the sky.

*Also, there was the ridiculously-high dud-rate of 30% of their WW2 era proximity-fuzes.

This is a take on the "Common Support Aircraft" concept, essentially having a fixed wing ASW, EW, AEW, and COD aircraft all based on the same basic airframe. The ASW, EW, and COD versions would all loom mostly identical so I only modeled the ASW variant (above) and the EW variant (below). For better loiter performance I'm using propfans (aka unducted fans) which trade a slight drop in cruise speed for lower SFC and thus better endurance. Both are about the same size as an S-3 which I used as the reference for the design.

I don't know if you want commentary but 40 aircraft was mediocre/meagre even in WWII and if your pontoons actually contact the water you would not be going faster than 1-3 kts, rendering you unable to launch aircraft unless the winds are like Beaufort 6-8.

Well, the pontoons don't contact the water, and they actually carry two "pontoons" so that totals to 80 planes, but I see what your point was.

What's wrong with an ironclad

It's an odd term that pretty much vanished in the 1880s/90s as full steel construction was taking off and sails went away. A large part of its disappearance was also due the fact that the term covered a number of different types of vessel ranging from coastal monitors through to actual cruisers and battleships.

It's fine if you want to use the term to apply to more modern vessels for national flavour but you'll probably have to include some more conventional nomenclature if only to avoid having to answer questions about where the wooden hull and sails are every time you mention your navy.
