I have read The Communist Manifesto (and Das Kapital) and I thought it was quite interesting. I consider myself a socialist, and I do admire Marx, but Das Kapital was hard for me to read. I enjoy books like War and Peace, but Das Kapital was a struggle.

I recommend Jacque Fresco's: Future By Design. It's basically like The Best Thing Money Can't Buy, except it's free, and much shorter.
Although, TBTMCB goes into much, much more detail.
