I must say Rugby, they are incredibly rough, but they rarely get those hooligans.

There is something odd about association football and violence.

Even here in Australia, you get arbitrary violence with relation to matches, and the throwing of flares and so on.

I don't think this is how association football is meant to be: worse today, the players themselves are getting quite rough.

Who cares which is better. If you like soccer/football go watch it. I like football so that's what I watch and play. It really depends on what you grew up with. Your most likely not going to grow up liking soccer in rural Texas or like football in Europe.

Australian Football Leauge or AFL FTW

Next to no one outside Australia knows about it
The skill requires kicking, throwing, heavy body contact, fitness, strength and anything you can name
Whilst the players get tackled (Which Soccer/European Football/world Football does not) they are tough enough to avoid protective gear
AFL also avoids that offside rule that restricts possible play. AFL is very free flowing due to possible passes and no restrictions on player movement.

All you need are four posts and a ball. Tackles, bumps, manouvering, kicks, hand passes are a certainty.

Aussie rules? It's pretty well known in Ireland. A few GAA players move to Australia to play it. Every now and then there's compromise rules events, and if memory serves it ends in violence.

Each play is a skirmish. Each drive to the end-zone is a charge. Each game is a battle. Each season is a war.

Between each play is a chance to catch one's breath re-evaluate assets and tactics.

"The Line" has "the Center", with offensive and defensive Guards and Tackles, as infantry and fighting toe to toe. The "Cavalry" are the Running Backs, Receivers, Cornerbacks and Safeties. The roles of "Captain" and "Quartermaster" are made one in the Quarterback on the offense (due to possession of the ball), while the defensive players usually have a Captain.

If you're only going to compare British and American football…I call apples and oranges.

I adore both, but for entirely separate reasons. American football, hard to beat the level of intelligence and speed of thinking players must have in that game. In spite of its faster bits being in short bursts, they are wickedly intense (speaking from personal experience). A lot of strategy and planning goes into each quarter, forget each game. The athletic skills that can be displayed are incredible.

British football, well, frankly, it's not a skill, it's a bloody art form. Watch a "Brazil philosophy" team and you'll see what I mean. British football simply defines artistry in motion. Watching a player like Thierry Henry back in his prime, moving fluidly and scoring, was one of the most amazing things I had ever seen when I was introduced to British football at the age of 12. Today we have players like Torres and Adebayor who show us the same artistry.

Where American football is sort of an intellectual man's contact sport, British football is the artisan's.

Regular soccer cause:
1. The players are more fit, American football players need 10 pounds of protection, Soccer players only wear shin pads that dont work very well

2. regular football is more popluar around the world

3. Regular football is more exciting
