It’s not your imagination. Fruit quality has declined over the years. It’s to do with the way it’s supplied now. Farmers markets are a way to sometimes get around this. Or you can grow your own.

Some breaded white fish or fishsticks from the freezer. Mushy peas are a typical side for fish & chips in the UK.

I never ever thought of peas as a focus for lunch.
Very likely, I'll have some tiny carrot bits and chicken or tuna with it, plus mashed potatoes.

In my country, shawarma is quite good. But also, I might be confusing shawarma with doner kebab.

So ... make your favorite ramen. When it's done, slip an egg into the middle and pull the noodles over to cover it. Put a couple of slices of American cheese on top and wait a minute or two for the egg to poach. I use shredded cheddar but whatever works. Oh, and a pat of butter, if you like. Mix and enjoy.

I do this all the time. Also: cut up leftover meat and veg and add to the ramen, first.

I really like persimmons. I don't like them as ripe as most people like them though. When the fruit is a bright orange and you can squeeze it a bit like a good avocado, that's the best time. I like there to be a bit of astringency.

Recently I've decided to try new Chinese cuisine, but what recipes have you tried that are Chinese and you'd never thought of before?

I'm not going to eat any animals or blood (I'm vegetarian!) but will try any new recommendations, provided I can get the ingredients!

For vegetarians, look into Chinese Buddhist cuisine. The meat substitutes they make are really good. Better than any modern, Western meat substitute I've ever had.
