Feminists claim that women should "take up space" while reprimanding men for doing so, when it's not even taking up that much extra. Sitting with my legs closed as a woman is very painful and I will sit however I damn please. Men should be able to sit however's comfortable for them.

Something about that photo looked odd, so I looked it up on google image search, and it seems it's a stock photo. Part of a whole series where that same group of people do things that inconvenience other subway users.
There's some great titles for the pictures: That particular pic is "Women Crowded by Manspreading on Subway", but there's also "People Reading Show-off Books on Subway", "Woman Texting at Top of Subway Stairs While Others Try to Exit", "Man Hogging Subway Pole", "Pregnant Woman Stands on Subway While People Sit and Play with Phones", "Man Playing Sudoku on Subway While Women Look Over His Shoulder", "Woman Looking for MetroCard and Blocking Turnstile While People Wait to Enter".

The best title in the album of stock photos has to be "Something Dripping from Above and It’s Not Rain" for sheer horror value, lol.

Yes, if they are making laws against it in Spain, and in the UK, and fined people in the NYC subway over it, and an artist and activist (who I state is committing assault) in Russia is throwing bleach and water on practitioners then yes: being on three separate continents suggests a widespread issue.

In the current era of fake news, pranksters and wind-up merchants, the burden falls on the poster to actively research the provenance of images rather than just go "hey, I found this random shit and unless you can backtrace all of them this is proof". The admission that they've been selecting at random from a google search...sheesh. There's a word for this sort of behaviour, but privileged positions and all that. I'm really disappointed.

ONE picture turned out to be a stock photo by a New York City radio station's photographers. And it's not the one that people are saying was "debunked". That one apparently comes from some tumblr (which I can't see to check the sources if any).
When people are talking about how a picture was debunked, they might want to actually check which one it was.

So, we can, I think, reasonably determine that the phenomena of manspreading, bagspreading etc, are not new, and not some freaking misandrist feminist plot to destroy civilisation.

It's just due to people not being particularly respectful of others.


I have a couple theories about this.

Do you all still have meals at the dinner table, on dinner chairs ? Or do most people eat while on the sofa ? Because sitting comfortably on a sofa requires quite a different posture.

Third, I never had an issue sitting next to either my brother or my father, none of us are thin, all of us spread a little (yes women also sit with their legs slightly spread) and none of us ended up taking up more room then the width of our chair. My male friends also manage to spread without taking up more room then the width of their seat. I wonder if obesity, in the US at least, is causing some of this issue.

Nope. People making laws about a thing does not actually indicate the prevalence of that thing.

Planking seems to have claimed very few. Sad that it cost anyone their lives, but I think it's a handful in comparison.

It is pretty much the same mentality of people putting belongings in seats next to them. It is hardly restricted to men.
