You'd have an expensive weapon with none of the reliability but all the manual of arms of an AK.

Long stroke pistons are stupid easy to build. Changing that detracts from the point of an AK: cheap and rugged under the shit tolerances of comblock manufacturing.

If you want a short stroke rifle, you'd be well served getting one of the many on the market. JAKL, SCAR, MCX, Bren...you got options. If you want a AK, you have options. If you want a long stroke not ak you have some options, like an X95 or I think galils.

Operstion method is going to buy you little difference at the shooter's level. Di is smoother than SS is smoother than LS, but you have so many variations that affect shooter felt recoil that you're better off looking at other features you need to consider and considering competing operating systems later.

I was just asking for anyone's opinion on my hypothetical, I didn't ask to be dressed down.

What do gun lads think of internally silenced guns like the VSS Vintorez? I always found suppressors to be cool-looking and useful, but internal ones seem way more handy and neat (though illegal).

They weren't illegal? But I heard it was unlawful to own a silenced weapon in the states?

I own a suppressor. Lawfully. It's not complicated. Most vendors do all the hard work for you.

Federally, it's just a title II item. Mostly, that means paperwork, delays, and a $200 tax stamp.

Some states (such as the Illinois shithole) ban suppressors entirely.

Federally they aren’t illegal. State laws very, but msot let you own them so long as you jump through the hoops.

You need to pay taxes for it.

Funny enough, it's the same tax as owning a machine-gun, and as noted, these taxes don't stack, so a silenced machine-gun/autocannon costs about as much as taking the either/or option instead.

In before someone posts their integrally silenced Mk-19 quad-mounts

That said, the rub is that each grenade is also taxed individually ($200/ea, plus cost). So most folks tend to avoid straying over .50 BMG.

"Not if you're the government, lol" is kinda a silly argument. The government has lots of things which are accurately described as "illegal".

Welcome back to another episode of stupid gunsmithing ideas!

Today's contestant is a closed-bolt semi-auto rifle meant to be reloaded by stripper clip, but the trigger pull actuates the bolt release.

I'm gonna go with 5.56 NATO as the favorite, though that's the ONLY one I have fired before (see: SAR-21 and M16 (only that one time)).

Well, you know how it is. I'm gonna go with a 30 mm cal.

-----

Wikipedia says that "The SAR 21 is set to be replaced by the BR18 in the Singapore Armed Forces in the near future," but I have not even seen one of those in real life... at least, not yet because it's also been a while since I have went to the Army showcase.
