I've always wondered why you never see atheist out there bashing the Gods of Hindu, or the Sikh God, but no they bash the Christians because we are the butt monkey of religions

Hmm... Could it because all the atheists you hear about are in areas with lots of Christians, and not Hindus, Sikhs, or anybody else? Would you expect to hear more about the religious views of people in poor, distant countries, or in rich, nearby countries?

Doesn't matter, I've never seen an atheist bash Buddhists or Hindu's with any grand spectacle, sure they think they are wrong but I have to see them put one of those fiction stickers on their holy books, or have a Vedas for smut exchange. Until I see that, I will be convinced that Atheist Evangelicals only bash Christians because we are the easiest mark

Christianity gets bashed:

a) because it's familiar, and familiarity breeds contempt;

b) because it's a universalizing religion that has always said that everyone else is wrong and everyone else's gods are false.

As for respecting each other's beliefs--see B. I'll start respecting yours when you start respecting mine.

There's a difference between "I respectfully disagree" and "Burn the witch!". Most Christians, when they disagree with someone, have no respect.

I was actually wondering that myself. I mean, they're not like some store, so they may not be obligated to give any more porn based on the size and original cost of the Bible. But at the same time they should because I mean, c'mon...compared the little paperback ones missionaries give you to the older, big hardback ones. The latter should be worth TONS more porn.

As do most Atheists, as for Pagans I know a few, I think generally in this day and age we religious tend to band together, all the pagan friends I have are very respectful of my religious beliefs, which I return in kind. Same with Buddhist and Jewish believers that I know.
However the atheists I know they can't seem to keep the peace when the subject comes up.

Got to agree here, I mean even from the Atheist perspective it's a great book, just to read, sex, violence, the rise and fall of civilizations. What's not to like.

Hey, sure, the sex and violence is great. I'm in favor of that. And it's got great F/X in places. But...

1) There are these long tedious sections of "thou shalls" and "thou shalt nots". And even more tedious sections describing details of rituals and ritual accoutrements which have absolutely no sex nor violence in them.

2) Large hunks of it are fiction, but silly people mistake it for fact. But maybe I shouldn't complain about this too much, since there are apparently already furries who think Avatar is somehow factual.

3) The fiction was written over thousands of years, but silly people think big hunks of it had a single author, and that smaller hunks -- usually also called The Book of Author -- were also written by single authors. That's not really true until the last few sequels, and by then, the tone of the series has changed a lot.

4) Despite its fictional nature and its multiple authors, silly people think all the long tedious sections of "thou shalls" and "thou shalt nots" make up a coherent, sensible moral code. I mean, really, the Jedi have a shorter, more sensible moral code.

4a) Some of the silly people attempt (and historically have atttemped) to impose this moral code on people who are much more interested in, for example, the sex. Thanks, but no thanks; I already have a moral code, and I'm pretty happy with it, because it's more up on the sex and more down on the violence.

But other than that, yeah, it's a great set of books.

So apparently somewhere in Texas a college atheist group is doing a campaign to get people to trade in religious texts for pornography. Their idea is that the bible contains lots of violence, torturer, incest, etc etc and is no different from porn.

Not to be insensitive towards anyone, but I think it's kind of a brilliant idea to get people thinking about atheism. The most that our university's (currently forming) atheist group does is planning to pass out FSM brochures while dressed like pirates.

Something to do with the Christians using their religion as an excuse or justification to pass discriminatory and biased laws in the west, and few people come across Hindi, Sikhs, or others in government in the west.

And no, we can't all respect each other's beliefs. That's human nature to hate and fear what's different, whether the reasons are valid or illogical. Evangelical is a term for proselytizing to convert people to your religion; atheism is not a religion.


Personally, I wish I had a stack of religious books and were back in Austin instead up further up north so I could justify a drive for lots of free porn.

The followers of the old Mother Goddess faith used to be pretty hardcore sex freaks, but that was back before ancient Greece if I recall... the written word was a fairly new concept, so no religious texts that I know of.

The religion itself has stuck around, though. I follow it, and I've heard from a couple of others online who at least know about it.

And yes, I am talking about those pagan fertility cults who held orgies as coming of age ceremonies, as well as other things.

Maybe because there aren't really all that many Hindus or Sikhs (relative to adherents of the Abrahamic religions, at any rate) in the Western nations, which is basically the entirety of the area we hear about this stuff from? If something like this happened in India, but with Hinduism or Sikhism substituted for Christianity, it wouldn't be newsworthy.

When hindus and buddhists start trying to enforce their morals on me as laws I'll start bashing them as well.
