This books is about how the current (yes, current) obsession with purity is hurting women and sexually defining women to try and get us back to previous gender roles What do you all think of what we call "the virginity obsession" or "slut shaming"? When we think of a virgin, what are some words we think of: "clean", "pure", "virtuous", etc. Well then if someone is not a virgin (particularly women), what words must define them?: "dirty", "impure", "heathenish".
Some interesting things to look up are:
Purity Balls
The trailer for the Purity Myth documentary
Abstinence-only organizations
Some interesting quotes:
"You start off as a beautiful flower, every time you have sex, you take a petal and put it on the ground. Don't give your husband a bare stem." -The Purity Myth
"Your sexuality is a lollipop. When someone takes the wrapper off, licks it, and puts the wrapper back on, you are damaged." -The Purity Myth
and more! if you want them. I can look in my book.
SO... What do you think?

I went and found my book, and here's some more information I found from what I've read so far:
A Pregnancy Resource Center of Northeast Ohio: an article titled "Take2" asks "Have you already unwrapped the priceless gift of virginity and given it away? Do you now feel like 'second hand goods' and no longer worthy to be cherished? Do you ever wish you could re-wrap it and give it only to your future husband?"
- This ad is for young women and men to go and take a pledge to be virgins again, and life a life of chastity from here on out.
Abstinence Clearinghouse's website
Middle School Girls Gone Wild: "They writhe and strut, shake their bottoms, splay their legs, thrust their chests out and in and out again. Some straddle empty chairs, like lap dancers without laps. They don't smile much. Their faces are locked from grim exertion, from all that leaping up and lying down without poles to hold onto. The girls spend a lot of time lying on the floor. They are in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades."
"Virgins are hot" t-shirt slogan by Heritage Community Services
I could go on and on.
