Honestly, I just hope that they gave Jodie Whittaker the role because she was suited for it, and not because of the the whole "let's cast the current popular star in every single new program" mentality that British TV seems to have.

I mean, remember that period when it seemed like there was an Act of Parliament that required Keely Hawes to be cast in every new British TV drama?

I'm sure that Chibnall's comfort working with her after Broadchurch probably played a much bigger role in this than her popularity.

Season 10 was my favourite Capaldi season. 8 and 9 had good episodes but i found it a bit hit and miss sometimes, Season 10 i thought was solid all they way through.

Okay, I have been forced out of NSG due to the smiley/gravedig spamming, but in regards to comments about the change in gender not being a breakthrough, it is merely my opinion given all the Doctors until now have been male.

And regarding the comment about what year I am living in, it does not relate to ongoing depression I am going through, which can blow negative events out of proportion.

And regarding the comment that says nobody cares (I assume it is about YouTube), I do because I know the impacts of emotional harm. I’ve been through that when I was young.

Sorry, I had to get the last two out of my chest.

Very pleased to be getting a new doctor. Capaldi was nice and all, but I don't think he has been the greatest of the doctors. Though that might be a script writing issue than him, himself

After watching the trailer a few more times, is anyone else getting more of a fantasy vibe from it?

Series 10 was easily Capaldi's best, and just might be Moffat's best. Not a dud in the lot.

Series 8 and 9 had good episodes, but some really bad episodes, but my biggest problem with those seasons was that it was essentially "The Clara Show, Featuring The Doctor."

Bill was a refreshing change, and I'm curious if we're going to get a male or a female companion next season. Or if we get one of each like Nardole and Bill.

Just please don't give The Doctor a forced romantic interest! And no flirting with the companion either.

I think one of each works best. It made Series 6 and 7.1 great as well (and the half of Series 1 with Captain Jack).
Agreed on the forced romantic interest part. Not so much on the flirting, I don't mind casual Doctor-esque flirting.

I'm curious to see Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall's interpretations of the Doctor. Experimentation and development has always been a crucial part of Doctor Who's history - and I think casting a woman is no exception. Of course, I don't know how well Whittaker going to play the Doctor, or how well Chibnall is going to write her, but overall I'm pretty optimistic.

My only problem is that we aren't going to fully see what the 13th Doctor will be like until September next year! :(

What I also love about this casting was that it caught many of us by surprise. I was convinced that it was going to be Kris Marshall or another Tennant clone. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if someone from the Beeb deliberately planted that rumor to throw us off guard.

The vitriol on facebook about the casting of Whittaker has been horrendous. How much hate can a society have for something they've never seen before?

And casting a man would have been seen as pandering to the conservatives and traditionalists, which is ironic considering those are the groups complaining about "political correctness".

At least the likes and the loves on the Facebook pages are outnumbering the "angrys", but yeah, the vitriol is disgusting, but sadly not surprising. Everything is polarizing these days.

Give her a chance. Doctor Who is a show about change, and I think a big shake up is needed right now.

honestly the biggest problems with 8-9 were that it seemed like Moffat hadn't planned on making it past the matt smith era...

I'm pretty sure The Chibs wanted a reliable person he had worked with before, and I seriously doubt political correctness had anything to do with it, but I'm sure people will whine about it regardless.

On an unrelated note, we do have our first blond Doctor since Davidson.

Yeah. I've been trying to look through clips on YouTube, but aside from a very bizarre short film in which Alan Rickman grinds up and snorts children's teeth, I'm mostly finding interviews rather than actual acting. May have to watch Broadchurch.
