Hello!

Welcome to the WorldVision Song Contest, based on the Eurovision Song Contest, aiming to provide and unite nations from different parts of the World through music. The WorldVision Song contest is an outlet to showcase the popular or native music of your nation. As with every contest, there are a few simple rules and regulations that you'll need to follow. If you're new, continue on to the FAQ/Guide To WorldVision! If you are simply looking for the rules, look no further than the box below:

How It Works

  • Each nation will rank the other nations out of 10. Each number below 4 adds a scaled negative score whereas each number above 4 adds a scaled positive score (4 provides a neutral value). The complete score of each nation will be the total sum of the positive and negative scores. At this point, any nation with a negative score or 0 will be considered to have 0 televote points (only the bottom few nations might receive this). The rest of the nations with a positive score will have this score then multiplied until the total scores are equal to the amount of points distributed through the points on the IC thread (this from now is the IC "Juries").
  • This multiplied number will then be the televote score for each nation.
  • Unlike in the test run, the committee will assume responsibility for the televote, that is its recording and maintenance. This info will be given to the host when all nations have voted on the IC thread or when the deadline passes. This will allow the vote to not be influenced by the host, and to make sure the formula used is accurate.
  • The committee will also be responsible for publishing the complete voting result overview at the end of the voting, including the individual votes of nations, as well as the overall voting breakdown.
  • If the percentage of nations receiving 0 points in the televote exceeds 10% of the total competing nations that edition, the committee will reserve the right to change these percentages so that the percentage of nations receiving 0 points falls under 10% once again, as long as the nation's raw televote score is above -10. In this case, weightings changes will be done so that it does not affect any position in the top 3.
  • The host will be free to announce these results how they see fit, with the committee's strong recommendation to reveal them in the style of either of lowest to highest in the televote, or according to current standings after the jury vote.
  • In the event of a tie, the jury vote takes precedence.

Televote Instructions

  • In addition to the standard 12-1 points that we all post on the IC thread (which remains the same) there will also be an additional requirement. Each contestant must also submit a response to a google form in which they will rate each song from 1-10 (out of a maximum of 10) - with 1 to a song which they hated and 10 to a song they loved (and everything in between).
  • There are no restrictions on televoting - You can allocate scores in the televote however you wish, and you do not need this to be the same metric by which you measure your "jury" scores. Some suggestions may be to split your scores according to the Music/Lyrics/RP etc., but this is optional. We will still check for invalid votes, for example every nation being ranked the same, or in a specific "pattern", but this won't be an issue if one votes fairly.
  • You can give your puppet a maximum of 6 out of 10 in the televote and vice-versa to the main nation. If you have a puppet you will have to submit a second set of televoting points - however, you can submit a single set of points and include the ranking for both your main nation and puppet nation in the same form. You must inform the committee if you wish to do this in advance.
  • If you do not submit a televote, you will receive a 25% penalty on your original televote score (which will then be redistributed among the rest of the nations according to their televoting score). It is strongly recommended that you submit a televote score, but if you don't submit one, you don't have to worry about being disqualified.

As it was introduced prior to the start of '79, the same strike system for punishments will be in effect, where players breaking certain contest rules will receive strikes depending on the severity.

    • One Strike: No immediate consequences;
    • Two Strikes: One-contest ban;
    • Three Strikes: Two-contest ban.
  • Strikes expire after five editions; however, a strike expiring during a ban does not edit or shorten it.
  • Bans stack; that is, a nation reaching three strikes within one edition is immediately banned for the following three editions.
  • Bans erase strikes once they are completed.

Here are the following issues that can net you a strike:

    One strike:
    • Not voting in the contest (will also disqualify a contestant from competing)
    • Changing votes without Worldvision Committee supervision.
    • Posting halftime results when not the host or WVC & refusing to remove results (which also results in disqualification)
    • Posting an incomplete entry.
    • Not declaring a new puppet, or when transferring ownership of a puppet.
    • Using AI to write lyrics or RP (which also comes with a 25% televote reduction). AI images, using AI to translate or using AI as inspiration are all completely fine.

    Two strikes:
    • Engaging in tactical voting.
    • Intentionally refusing to vote.
    • Attempts to evade a ban.
    • Entering more than one puppet in the contest.

FAQ / Guide To WorldVision

I'm new here, how does this all work?

Welcome! Here at WorldVision, we write our own lyrics to existing songs, and then vote on them! Many of us write performances and background information on the performer as well. This contest is based heavily on the Eurovision Song Contest, so it helps a lot if you're familiar with it! One major difference from it is that the winner doesn't host the next contest- here we have people bid each edition to host the next contest.

That sounds fun! How do I sign up?

Signing up is simple! You can fill out and post the application below, or simply state your interest in joining. If you do use the application, you don't need to fill everything in.

Code: Select all
Nation Name: Your nation's name goes here.
Official Broadcaster: Your official broadcaster for WV goes here.
Song Title: The IC Song title goes here.
Artist(s) Name(s): The name of your act goes here.

Tune: The real-life tune you're basing your song on goes here.

This is all so exciting! I want to host!

In order to host, you need to have fully participated once, especially to get the feel of how the contest runs. While you wait, you can look at current bids to learn what good bids look like. If you've signed up before host voting has begun, then you can vote for the host! Once you've finished a contest, you can bid for host, as long as you don't vote for your own.

How do I write an entry?

Writing an entry is just a bit more work than Alexander Rybak makes it seem. Most of us use an existing song as a tune, which we usually link through YouTube, and rewrite the lyrics so that they are original- which means that we wrote them ourselves and did not copy the real lyrics (at least 80% should be your own, which is generally easy if you write your own). Translating real lyrics does not count!

To do well, it's best to write a performance and choose a tune that hasn't been used before - don't be afraid to ask us if you're unsure! In addition, it's always good to look at past contests and learn from the winners and highest placed entries.

If you do post a reservation/placeholder post for your entry, please make sure that you finish it with a completed set of lyrics. If you don't finish, or if you don't withdraw on the OOC thread, you will receive a strike, which is explained in the spoiler below this section.

The entry deadline passed, and there's a mistake in my entry! Can't I just fix it?

Please let the Committee know first! If it's a big edit, you'll need to ask for permission. If you're just fixing spelling, formatting, or a link, then it's fine! But if you make a big edit without permission, like finishing lyrics or adding more RP, you might get disqualified.

So what comes next? Voting?

Yes, that's right! After the entry deadline, you cannot edit your entry without permission from the Committee. After the host posts the interval act and opens voting, you may post your votes. Just like in Eurovision, you give 12 points to your favourite entry, then 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and finally 1 point to your next favourite. Please vote on time!! The host may choose to close voting after the deadline, but if you do not vote on time you will be disqualified.

Next, you do the televote. Here, it means that you open the form that is linked by the host, and rank each entry from 1 to 10, with 1 being worst and 10 being best. Ever since the official implementation of the televote in WV83, everyone's televotes will be revealed by the Committee, so you can see the full breakdown after the contest ends. We use a weighting system to calculate the televotes - this will be changed at the discretion of the committee if the number of 0's exceeds 10% of participating nations (this will be done only for those nations with a score of above -10).

This sounds awesome! I want to enter a puppet nation and write more entries!

You can do that! You may enter a second nation, but make sure you confirm that it is yours in the signups! However, with great power comes great responsibility: you can only give a maximum of 5 points to yourself in the jury vote, and only a maximum score of 6 in the televote, and together with your main nation you can only give a maximum of 14 jury points to another nation.

I do not feel safe or welcome here. What do I do?

If you are bullied, harassed, intimidated/etc by someone within the contest, please contact the Committee or one of its members, and we will ensure confidentiality and analyze the situation. We will deal with punishment as deemed appropriate depending on the severity of the offence.

I have more questions! Who do I ask?

If you have more questions you can ask in the thread, join the Discord server linked at the top of this post, or TG the WorldVision Committee. The Discord server is probably where you are going to get the fastest reply.

So basically, be original, try to be fair, don't be a jerk, and have fun. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to TG the Committee - it helps if you add the Committee's individual member names (Elejamie, South Batoko, Carrelie, Malta Comino Gozo, Ugunnustan) in the "To:" box along with "WorldVision Committee" for a faster response. DM on Discord also works!

Even if you've missed the deadline or aren't participating, feel free to discuss the contest in this thread or post commentary in the IC. You'll find that we all greatly appreciate some good commentary.

With all that said, welcome to WorldVision!

Superfinal of the 221st Sereno Festival | Gallicelèstia

Postby Gallicelestia » Tue Feb 27, 2024 2:32 pm

Image

Welcome to the superfinal of the 221st edition of the Sereno Festival. The prestigious competition was established to unite a divided nation in 1993, in the aftermath of the fall of the First Regime.
Six out of thirty acts competing in the 221st edition have reached the superfinal, the winner of the Sereno Festival will represent the Technocratic Republic of Gallicelèstia at the 113th WorldVision Song Contest.

Previously, Anele Lily represented the Technocratic Republic of Gallicelèstia on its debut at the 112th WorldVision Song Contest with “Never Be A Clone,” placing 4th with 203 points after she had been selected to represent the nation by winning the 220th Sereno Festival with the song "Non Sono Un Clone."

Image
Nations participating in the 113th WorldVision Song Contest are invited to vote in the Sereno Festival by submitting a jury, and a public vote, respectively.
To submit your votes, you can answer the “Superfinal of the 221st Sereno Festival” form; alternatively, you may send me your votes as a private message on Discord @gallicelestia, or as a telegram on Nationstates. Incomplete votes will not be considered.

The Jury Vote: The national juries of participating nations shall award 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 points, respectively, to the entries in the Superfinal of the 221st Sereno Festival, reflecting the preferences of music professionals and experts.
Your jury votes for the Sereno Festival shall reflect how your national jury votes in the WorldVision Song Contest.

The Public Vote: The public vote (televote) of participating nations shall rate each entry of the Superfinal of the 221st Sereno Festival on a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 denoting the best possible rating, reflecting the preferences of audiences.
Your public vote (televote) for the Sereno Festival shall reflect how your public votes in the WorldVision Song Contest.
Your televote may award the same rating to more than one song, i.e., you may rate all acts 10/10, if that reflects the taste of your audience. However, you may also rate all songs 1/10, if your audience appreciated none of the acts.

Despite relegated to the right side of the scoreboard, Furballland will particiapte, and also, Ğretvak has snatched Ansurat's Ranking. Ğretvak will also participate this edition.

However, i had to put my Nordic Puppet down, and my puppet will be a Robloxian one (Canguta666 in Roblox).

Brodhavan has announced its withdrawal of participation.

We, unfortunatedly had to withdrew form Worldvision for now as we are making way for other ones to come, also, despite running the national finals successfully, the overall score was a catastrophic failure, the national finals is a complete disaster, disappointed by the result, Televisja Brødhavan has announced its withdrawal, and may or may not participate in the forseeable future.

Right, we went from no second places to two in a row! How cool! Anyways, Malta Comino Gozo is in!

Valletta Marina Arena was packed with over 6,500 enthusiastic music lovers on February 12th as the grand final of "Notes" 2024 took place. The event drew in a combined audience of more than 300,000 over three shows, making it one of the most-watched music competitions in the country.

Francesca Tanti was the undisputed star of the show, sweeping the competition and winning the hearts of the audience with her song What Do You Want (From Me?) See song here.

She received the top points from four out of six juries and won the public vote, placing 32 points above second place. This was Francesca's first appearance, and she managed to beat out well-known WorldVision acts such as Ivan Borg from the MCG band Pistols and Tulips, Elija MiĊelli, Nathan Aperitivo, Adam Borg, and WorldVision winner Niki Xerri!

Image

"Notes" is praised for its focus on a live orchestra, a unique feature that has been present since the 60s. The show has come a long way since its inception, and this year's edition was a testament to its popularity and longevity.

At a press conference following the competition, it was announced that Francesca Tanti would be the first-ever winner of "Notes" to represent Malta Comino Gozo at the WorldVision Song Contest.

Liena Aqualina, who competed in WV 109, and Noah Pandolfino, who competed in WV 111, both competed on "Notes" 2021 and "2022," respectively, placing second each. The competition is known to have produced some of the most talented artists in the region, and Francesca Tanti is the latest addition to the list.

Welcome to the third episode of the third season of the wonderful Operation : WorldVision! An operation that was designed at first to save Alezia from international embarrassment, and now designed to continue Alezia's reputation in their "national sport"! Initially, we were supposed to send in an entry last edition... (it was in AcAYa after all) but during that time, we kinda have a... personal internal crisis because international and national sources has sometimes reported about the lack of variety in Operation:WorldVision or lack of an Alezian entry that is characteristically Alezian. Hopefully after that break we get to do our own thing that also appeals to the national and international audience. As usual, we have six entries from six talented people (with a little bit more experimentation this time) and it's up to YOU to vote! Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Operation:WorldVision!

Hello everyone, Lez here!
First of all, I'm so sorry that I didn't compete last edition (super bummed since yknow, I wanted to RP about AcAYa and stuff like that). I got a lot of things on my plate and I can only start WorldVision again after I committed my time to all my RL stuff to a satisfactory safe point, so here I am!

ANYWAY, I need your help again, let's just say I got yet ANOTHER set of quality lovely songs... And I need YOUR help to choose! How to vote, you wonder? WELL:
RANK ALL SONGS AND GIVE
12 POINTS TO THE BEST SONG,
10 TO THE 2ND,
8 TO THE 3RD,
7 TO THE 4TH,
6 TO THE 5TH, AND
5 TO THE 6TH.

You can vote through NS Telegram or by Discord on Lez#0535, but I very recommend that you use Discord because I'm more active there. (But if you don't have discord or don't want to vote through discord, it's still very fine! Every vote counts)
You have until:
15th of March 2024 at 6 PM WITA / 10 AM GMT to give your picks!
Remember, I WILL NOT ACCEPT VOTES PAST THIS DEADLINE (except for special circumstances)

Please vote! Alezia needs YOU!
With love,
Lez

Hakushiya’s returning :)
so I was originally gonna do my NF as a 2 SF/1 GF affair but due to IRL commitments I’m doing this as a single-show affair instead ok :)

Welcome to StarSearch LX: Road to WV113!
After a decent debut for Hakushiya in the 112th edition of the WVSC with its entry - “My Rare Psyche” by Ravine Nichols - finishing at 16th place, the federation is coming back for the 113th edition, aiming further with a national final… and it’s a special episode continuing from where the 60th edition of our FBS’s own singing tournament (StarSearch) left off. With the winners of each of the tournament’s 20 regional divisions (some up-and-rising from the indie ranks, some already established from before the Lioxutopian cataclysm) having already respectively prepared their own prospective Hakushiyan entries into the 113th edition (and seven of them even participating in national jury for the edition before), it’s now up to the rest of the multiverse to determine which of those entries ends up representing Hakushiya on that big day…

Candidate City - Chiton

The state capital of Catenham, Chiton, has been transformed over recent years from a small, but well heeled, town into a large economic powerhouse driven by the lucrative uranium mining industry in the nearby Catenham Hills.

The city skyline has grown over the past 4 years and is now punctuated with large modern skyscrapers being headquarters of major mining corporations.

Major mining corporations have headquartered in Chiton and wield significant influence over state policies and development projects, contributing to both prosperity and debates over corporate power. Indeed, the influx of wealth from the uranium industry has led to a cultural renaissance, with the city boasting modern art galleries, theaters, and vibrant nightlife in downtown Chiton.

Whilst the city has embraced cutting-edge technology in uranium extraction, with advanced mining equipment and eco-friendly practices to mitigate environmental impact. The city also grapples with environmental challenges and public debates over the ecological impact of uranium mining, leading to increased advocacy for sustainable practices. The Green Energy Initiative, a local movement, seeks to balance economic growth with environmental preservation. Closed mined areas are rehabilitated focusing on reforestation, soil remediation, and wildlife habitat restoration, resulting in large national parks surrounding the main city.

The recent growth of the city has seen a diverse influx of residents, from miners to academics, creating a dynamic social fabric, with a multicultural, cosmopolitan scene. Chiton's neighborhoods range from bustling urban districts to suburban areas, reflecting the varied lifestyles of its inhabitants.

Things to See and Do

Energy Plaza

Located in the heart of the city, Energy Plaza is the spacious town square. The plaza serves as a central gathering point. A variety of food stalls, shops and businesses front onto the plaza. During the contest, the plaza would be a focus point for visitors, various stages featuring performances by local artists, bands, and cultural groups, celebrating the city's diverse heritage and its modern, forward-thinking ethos.

Catenham State University

Catenham State University (CSU) is renowned for its engineering and geology programs, plays a pivotal role in training professionals for the mining industry. The University's collaboration with mining companies has led to breakthroughs in sustainable resource extraction and environmental management.

The Grand Library in the University is a symbol of knowledge. It has evolved to include digital archives, virtual reality research labs, and interactive exhibits at the forefront of technology.

The TIC

The Technological Innovation Center in Chiton attracts scientists and engineers from around the nation, fostering advancements in mining technology.

The Annual Energy Expo in Chiton attracts experts, investors, and enthusiasts from the energy sector, showcasing the latest innovations in nuclear energy.

The UMM

Delve into the city's mining history at the Uranium Mining Museum. Exhibits highlight the evolution of mining techniques, the impact on the local economy, and the strides made in environmental conservation.

National Parks

These areas offer hiking trails, wildlife observation points, and educational programs on ecological restoration.

Who knows, you might catch sight of the Catenham Tiger, which was believed to have become extinct in the early 1900s.

Sports

There are two main sports which take place in Chiton, Baseball and Football (Soccer). Both are played at the University Sports Grounds, and visitors may want to watch the CSU Tigers (Baseball) Team or CSU and Catenham Tigers (Football/Soccer) teams.

Venue - EcoDome

Image

The EcoDome is a large 55,000 maximum capacity multi-sports and arena building, constucted over the past 4 years, as part of Chiton's growth and opened on 1January 2024.

For the purposes of WorldVision, a reudced capacity of 36,000 will be able to attend the event. This is to allow for green room, backstage and commentators boxes.

The staging consists of three separate LED stages connected by a broad ramp: a main stage with a giant, curved widescreen; a rhombic middle stage; and a rectangular stage that along with the ramp forms a T-shape at the middle of the floor. The stages feature various visuals and effects throughout the show.
