BUDAPEST, Hungary — Hungary's Foreign Ministry has summoned the Russian ambassador over reportedly disparaging remarks on Russian state media about Hungary's 1956 anti-Soviet uprising.
The ministry said Tuesday it wants to clarify that Hungary does not tolerate anyone talking "in a humiliating manner about the revolution and its heroes."
The Foreign Ministry said Russian state media described the Hungarian revolt as a "pogrom" and as the first of the "color revolutions," like Ukraine's "Orange Revolution" in 2005, implying that the United States was behind the uprising.
The opposition party Politics Can Be Different had urged the ministry to react.
Hungary is commemorating the 60th anniversary of the brief but bloody revolt, during which over 2,500 Hungarians and 700 Soviet troops were killed and which prompted 200,000 Hungarians to flee their country.

The documentary also claimed that thousands of Nazis were set free during the uprising.
The ten-minute programme, which is presented personnaly by Dmitry Kiselyov, the deputy director of Russian state TV, also includes a reference to the uprising as a “pogrom”, insisting that “Nazis were let out of prisons by the thousands”. It also features Hungarian Socialist politician Szófia Havas, who says that “revolutionaries went from house to house in search of communists and Jews” and “the revolution couldn’t have broken out without groups of ex-Nazi dissenters trained by the CIA who were meant to promote a fascist-counterrevolutionary coup”.

And here I thought Big Vik and Bad Vlad had it all sorted out. I'm not surprised that Russian state TV pulls out the usual "CIA-coup" and "Fascist-Nazi" buzz words. I'm more surprised that it happened against a fellow rightwing authoritarian state with which Russia was developing friendly relations as of late.
Will this lead to a cooldown of relations between Hungary and Russia? Or will the bond of autocratic friendship endure, just like it did between Putin and Erdogan? What say ye, NSG?
