The format for this WBC will be 7 groups of 6, with each team playing a total of 30 games against their groupmates (a 3 game home series and a 3 game away series against each opponent). The top 2 teams in each group's final standings will advance to the Round of 16, along with 2 wild cards chosen from among the teams that finished third. Should any teams finish the group stage tied and should the question of advancement be at stake, the tied teams will compete in tiebreaker playoffs to determine who advances to the playoffs. The tiebreaker format is described in more detail in the host bid.

The first series will be scorinated on FRIDAY, AUGUST 28TH. You may post your rosters and RPs at any time. Please use the WBC Discussion Thread for purely OOC posts and comments and reserve this thread for rosters, RPs and results.

If you wish to use umpires in your RPs, we do have an Umpire Thread, which has (unfortunately) not been used in a long time. If you wish to add umpires to this thread, feel free to do so.

Rosters

Rosters are a list of your players, the positions they occupy and your team's home stadium(s). This can also include statistics, both personal and about their play, as well as their handedness, stengths and weaknesses, uniforms, nicknames, coaches, or anything else you find appropriate. Here is an example of a fairly standard roster: viewtopic.php?p=11597544#p11597544

Rosters are appreciated and will be graded as a separate RP. Rosters may include a RP permissions box (godmodding, injuries, choosing scorers, etc.) if players want to put restrictions on the roleplaying of their characters. Here is an RP box form that you could copy and paste into your roster post:

Code: Select all
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my runscorers: Yes/No
Choose my lineup: Yes/No
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes/No
Godmod scoring events: Yes/No
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No
Eject my players: Yes/No
Godmod other events: Yes/No
Use DH at home: Yes/No

New to baseball RPing, or sports RPing in general?

If you're new to sports RPing in general, please read this thread, as it provides a great guide for what you need to know. If you have any questions, you can send a TG to Saintland, post on the WBC Discussion Thread, or on the Sports Roleplaying Questions thread.

One thing unique to baseball is the designated hitter, a feature often confusing to newcomers. For explanation, I turn to Equestrian States' concise summary:
Equestrian States wrote:The Designated Hitter (DH) Rule is an aspect that is unique to baseball here on NS Sports. In short, the DH rule allows for teams to designate a player to bat for their pitcher, generally giving teams more flexibility when at bat. For more information on the DH rule and its implementation, please refer to the Wikipedia article on the subject, as it goes into far more detail than I can here. In regards to the WBC, the DH rule is only used if the home team uses a DH. If the home team does not use a DH, neither team will use the DH, regardless of the away team’s preference. If the home team has not specified (in their roster or an RP) whether they use a DH or not, the first participant to RP will dictate the use/nonuse of the DH in that game.

IC information, as well as the group draw, is provided in the posts below.

Saintland IC Information

History of Saintland

Saintland was founded in 966. Prior to that year, the island that is now Saintland was an uninhabited island in the World Changers section of Esportiva near the north pole. In the year 966, the Christian Church, which was still united at that time, held a now-forgotten Council. At this Council, they discussed some arcane matters related to Christology. There were 2 factions at this council that had irreconcilable differences. The majority faction are known today as the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church.

However, a small minority of Christian bishops rejected the decision of the Council of 966. Knowing that they would be persecuted for their beliefs if they remained, they left their homes and got on a number of ships. Their brothers and sisters, members of the nobility, went along with them. A Prince by the name of Paulus chose to go with them, because he believed they were right. They set out across the sea, praying that God would guide them to safety.

Somehow, they ended up traveling several thousand miles by sea, arriving at a remote island far to the north of their original homes. They were widely believed to have perished at sea. Soon, the very existence of the Council of 966 would be forgotten. The Prince would be crowned King Paulus I, the first King of the Kingdom of Saintland. Centuries went by and the Sanctii were able to keep their existence secret from the rest of the world.

Despite their isolation from the rest of the world, starting in 1038, the King's Government sent periodic expeditions to explore the outside world. They would inevitably return to Saintland, with information regarding what had happened since the last expedition. The explorers brought knowledge of new inventions back to Saintland. The King consulted with the Patriarch of the Church and they jointly decided which of the new inventions and innovations were worth adopting and which should not be adopted. This would prove to be very useful to the authorities in Saintland, as they successfully kept the Renaissance, Reformation and Enlightenment out of the Kingdom.

The policy of isolation would be ended in 1788. In 1825, King Josephus X decided to abolish the practice of serfdom. After breaking the power of the nobility, King Josephus X industrialized Saintland. However, Saintland never adopted laissez-faire policies and has only developed a barely modern economy. Usury laws remain on the books, intellectual property legislation remains non-existent and protective labor legislation was adopted very early on in the industrialization process. As Saintland industrialized, a special legal status called "foreign resident" was created, which permits foreign nationals to reside in Saintland and remain exempt from some of Saintland's laws.

Around 2 and a half years ago, Saintland began to take a more prominent place on the international stage, under the leadership of King Paulus XV. King Paulus adopted a new policy of aggressively entering international sports competitions in hopes of spreading the True Church around the multiverse and proving the truth of their faith through their performance on the field. While Sanctii athletes would begin to become fixtures in a number of sports and would particularly find success in soccer, gridiron and (especially) basketball, the mission of spreading the Faith proved much more difficult, due to the Church's theology, which still remained mostly unchanged since the Middle Ages. Thus, the King sought to bring major international tournaments to his Kingdom and eventually brought the most prestigious international tournaments in baseball, gridiron and ice hockey to the Kingdom of Saintland.

However, the life of King Paulus XV was cut short by an assassin. The assassination took place at the final of World Bowl XXII in the nation then known as the Free Republics. The assassin would later be identified as a Feministvs Sanctvsterra sympathizer who had killed the king over his staunch opposition to the foreign-funded radical feminist organization that sought to overthrow the Church. She would later be captured after assassinating a Consul of the Free Republics while attempting to assassinate a prominent member of the Republican Senate (OOC: In fact, she actually killed neither of them, but was an accomplice of the King's assassin and she was part of an underground group of assassins called The Brotherhood, but ICly this story is considered true and the truth is considered a conspiracy theory). His son Petrus, captain of the Sanctii National Gridirion Team, was crowned King Petrus XX.

King Petrus's reign as king has seen the King constantly trying to modernize Saintland, like his hero King Josephus X, but being thwarted by hard-liner elements within his Government and the Church. He was recently excommunicated from the Church and removed from the throne after attempting to institute a constitutional monarchy and is currently in hiding. Another notable event that happened during the reign of King Petrus was the mysterious appearance of Saintland in northern Rushmore. One night, the Kingdom was in World Changers, but they woke up the next morning and were suddenly in the region of Rushmore instead. So far, nobody has been able to explain why this event happened, but the Sanctii have since become a leading power in Rushmori sports and have made the semi-finals of each of the past 3 Copa Rushmoris.

Not too long ago, the King's brother Andreas usurped the throne while King Petrus was away in Electrum competing in the World Bowl. "King" Andreas, as the usurper became known, was the captain of the Saintland National Soccer Team, the founder of Royal Computer Entertainment of Saintland (which produces the Saint and SaintPhone lines of mobile devices and software for them that promotes the agenda of hardliners in the Sanctii government and Church) and an ally of the hard-liners within the Church of Saintland. Along with his (now deceased) twin brother Josephus (who was killed in an World Cup of Hockey match), prominent Sanctustube personality Sister Maria Polus, Patriarch Nicolaus V, RepublicSoft LLC and the Holy Party of the Free Republics, Andreas conspired to rig a Republican Consul election for the Holy Party and make Reino Kulseth the unquestioned leader of the nation that became known as the Holy Republican Empire. This elaborate conspiracy, however, is not public knowledge and it is widely believed that the Republican regime was elected in a free and fair election. King Andreas and his co-conspirators were committed to spreading their Faith by any means necessary and were covertly funding terrorist organizations such as the Christian State to advance their agenda. This covert funding of international terrorism was eventually the undoing of "King" Andreas who was removed in a bloodless manner by Euran troops shortly after the fall of the Holy Republican Empire at the hands of internal rebels and a coalition of foreign troops from various nations.

Saintland has traditionally been a divine right absolute monarchy with an established Church that is more powerful than the King, but after the Restoration of King Petrus XX, the balance of power has tiled toward the King who is currently in the process of transitioning the Kingdom toward a Constitutional Monarchy. The population of the entire Kingdom of Saintland is around 600 thousand.

Transportation

Due to the lack of an automobile manufacturing industry in Saintland and the prohibitive cost of importing foreign-made cars, the automobile has never been popular in Saintland. A few years ago, King Paulus XV decided to ban private ownership of automobiles for public safety reasons. Therefore, visitors to Saintland will not have the use of automobiles of any sort.

Under the laws of Saintland, automobiles may only be used by police, the military, fire departments and licensed bus or taxi services. In the cities, you should be able to find a bus or a taxi. If you see a police or military vehicle on the road, it is likely headed toward a crime scene of some sort or is being used to transport a criminal who has been apprehended by the authorities. It is highly recommended to move to the sidewalk when you see an automobile coming down the street.

Saintland has a highly developed high-speed rail network that connects every community in Saintland, from the tiniest villages to the cities of St. Petrus and St. Paulus. This is the only fairly quick way to travel between the communities of Saintland. The sole airport in the Kingdom is located in St. Petrus.

Bicycles are a popular form of transportation in Saintland. There are bicycle rental stores in most communities throughout the Kingdom. The most popular bicycle rental stores, among international visitors to Saintland, are located at the St. Paulus and St. Petrus airports. Bicycle parking is provided throughout Saintland and locks are included with every bike. The use of helmets is optional, but recommended.

Lodging

Until recently, Saintland lacked the necessary lodging to host large numbers of foreign visitors at a given time. However, in the hopes of luring major international sports events to Saintland, the King's Government constructed a number of hotels in the major cities over the past few years. All players, coaches and officials from the nations that are playing in Saintland will receive complimentary lodging at the Royal Hotel in St. Petrus. If requested, hotel staff will perform a wake up call to ensure that your players make it to the stadium in time for the start of their games.

Weather

Saintland is located in a polar region, which means that the weather is relatively cold, even during the summer. The average summer temperature in Saintland is 14 degrees (Celsius), which is the equivalent of 57.2 Fahrenheit. On an exceptionally warm day in Saintland, the weather may reach the mid-70s Fahrenheit (24 Celsius), but temperatures in the neighborhood of 7 Celsius (44.6 Fahrenheit) are not unheard of during the summer.

Language

Saintland speaks a dialect of Latin. Sanctii Latin is a living language, so it does have some differences from classical Latin. The degree of difference between the Latin of the Vulgate and the Latin spoken in Saintland is similar to the difference between the English of the King James Bible and the English that is widely spoken today.

Although Latin is the native language of the Sanctii, foreign language education is heavily emphasized in the nation's education system. The average person you run into on the street should be able to speak English relatively fluently, so there is not much of a language barrier for those from English-speaking nations.

Currency

Saintland uses a currency based on bullion. The main coins in Saintland are the Denarius, which is a one-ounce gold coin and the Argentii, a one-ounce silver coin. Gold and silver coins are also available in smaller weights, all the way down to 1/100th of an ounce of silver.

If you do not possess bullion, Universal Standard Dollars are widely accepted, as are the Republican Thaler and the Acedonian Ace. Their value will fluctuate, however, depending upon the current values of gold and silver on the international market.

Entertainment

Saintland is a theocracy that operates under Biblical law, so many forms of entertainment are illegal in Saintland. However, those laws have been relaxed somewhat under King Petrus XX.

There are 5 television networks in Saintland, which are numbered from Royal One to Royal Five. These networks will be airing every match of the World Baseball Classic live, as it happens along with an eclectic mix of Sanctii programming and (ideologically translated) foreign programming.

Additional programming is available on Sanctustube. The Royal Networks maintain a popular Sanctustube channel, which includes live streams and on-demand access to almost every game played in the WBC since WBC 25. It also includes on-demand access to any game from recent editions of other major tournaments, completely free of charge. If you'd rather watch programming from your home nation, you can probably find it on Sanctustube. Outside of Saintland, if you watch an unauthorized video of a non-Sanctii show on Sanctustube, you will see the show unedited. However, when accessed within Saintland, Sanctustube displays a highly edited version. Anything that is deemed incompatible with the values of Saintland will be removed and background music is usually replaced with music of Sanctii origin. It is not unheard of for the King's Government censors to ideologically translate a foreign television program or movie to reflect the values of Saintland.

There are movie theaters in the cities of Saintland which mostly show (low-budget) movies produced by Sanctii directors. Movies must be approved by the censors before they can be shown in movie theaters. Sometimes, popular foreign films will be broadcast in the theater, typically after an ideological translation and massive editing.

Cantus Virginum is the most popular musical group in Saintland. The group consists of around a hundred members at any given time. Their members are young women who are either still legally minors under the laws of Saintland or have only recently become adults. Their music is primarily popular with their peers and with girls slightly younger than them. It is widely considered, even among citizens of Saintland, to be of poor quality. It used to be considered impolite in Saintland to publicly criticize their (lack of) singing ability. However, while they are still fairly popular, in spite of past scandals.

Important Laws

As Saintland is a theocratic nation, pornography, prostitution and public nudity are all highly illegal. The ban on pornography includes "written" pornography, a category that includes most romance novels of foreign origin. Tobacco, Cannabis and other recreational drugs are also illegal. Drinking alcohol is legal, although it is highly regulated. There are limits on how much alcohol an individual may purchase. Drinking alcohol outside of communion is unlawful for minors, university students and soldiers that are not officers. Excessive drunkenness in public is illegal. Contrary to popular misconception, protesting is actually legal in Saintland, but sedition and blasphemy are illegal. In effect, this has meant in the past that any protest against the King's Government or the Church of Saintland is considered a criminal act, though King Petrus is in the process of reinterpreting the laws to permit "legitimate constructive criticism" but not criticism of the "nonconstructive" variety. However, even before the reinterpretation of the laws, a protest against horse racing at the first international Saintland Triple Crown by citizens of the Equestrian States was permitted. There are also laws on the books that prohibit aiding unlawful organizations in any way whatsoever. These were originally intended to be used against those who aided Feministvs Sanctvsterra, but as they are not an illegal group any longer the law now primarily applies to those who aid the remnants of the Christian State or other well-known international terrorist organizations. Possession of firearms by anybody who is not a police officer or a soldier is strictly prohibited.

While there are sumptuary laws on the books, most of them will not be enforced upon visitors who are here for the World Baseball Classic. However, women will be required to wear a head covering while in public. Exceptions will be made for athletes, during games, should the head covering interfere with their ability to compete to the best of their ability. Visitors who are not following the sumptuary laws should keep their IDs with them at all times and be ready to show them to any soldier or police officer upon request. This exemption will apply to nationals from nations that are participating in the World Baseball Classic and will remain in effect until up to 72 hours after the final game of the WBC. Any foreign nationals that remain in Saintland 3 days after the conclusion of the WBC will automatically obtain visitor status, with their 90 day clock to either apply for foreign resident status, apply for immigrant status or leave starting retroactively at the moment they arrived in Saintland.

Customs

Everybody visiting Saintland should expect to go through Customs prior to entering the nation. Customs is a branch of the Royal Army, which is tasked with keeping contraband out of Saintland. Customs will thoroughly search all items that are taken into Saintland. They will primarily be searching for guns, tobacco, cannabis, other recreational drugs, blasphemous material, seditious material and pornography. If a book appears to be "written pornography," that can cause a long delay in Customs while the Customs officials check the list of known works of "written pornography" to see if the book in question is on the list.

Ballparks

Royal Park

Located in St. Petrus, Royal Park is the home stadium of the Saintland National Baseball Team. Seating 51,773 fans, Royal Park is a traditional ballpark, but with a SaintTurf surface. With a moderate amount of foul territory and fences at 325 feet in left/right and 405 in center, Royal Park is a fairly neutral park.

Royal Stadium

Royal Stadium, located in St. Petrus, is Saintland's National Stadium. The spacious stadium seats 62,383 fans and is normally the home of the National Soccer Team and the National Gridiron Team. Not designed for baseball, Royal Stadium is a massive stadium with a huge amount of foul territory. The left field fence is only 288 feet away, but the center field fence is 468 feet away and the right field fence is 392 feet. Royal Stadium has a grass surface.

Via Damascus Stadium

The Via Damascus Stadium, which means "Road to Damascus" in English, is located in St. Paulus, the largest city in Saintland. Via Damascus is Saintland's second most prestigious stadium. It is the home of the National Rugby Union Team. It is also the home stadium of the St. Paulus teams for soccer and gridiron. Although not designed for baseball, Via Damascus has a SaintTurf surface and a large amount of foul territory. In Via Damascus Stadium, the fences in left field and right field are 345 feet away. The distance to the center field fence is 420 feet.

King Paulus XIV Park

King Paulus XIV Park is a baseball stadium in St. Paulus, which is named after the great-great-great-grandfather of King Paulus XV, the father of King Petrus XX. King Paulus XIV was a legendary pitcher in the early days of baseball in Saintland. He was every bit as dominant in his time as King Petrus XX and Prince Ioannes are in their respective sports today. In honor of King Paulus XIV, the best pitcher in Saintland's baseball league is awarded the King Paulus XIV award. Although the park is named for a legendary pitcher, this natural grass stadium is a very traditional ballpark in its design. King Paulus XIV Park has very little foul territory and the fences are fairly short. In left, the fence is 298 feet away, but the wall is 30 feet high. In right, the fence is just 313 feet from home plate, while the center field fence is 401 feet away. These dimensions make King Paulus XIV Park one of the most difficult places to pitch in Saintland.

Notes

The players on this team previously competed, in other sports (volleyball, field hockey, basketball and weightlifting), at the Games of the VIII Olympiad and at the (abandoned) third West Guiana Softball tournament. These are, however, their real names as the group now openly identifies themselves following their recent legalization by King Petrus, who has permitted them to operate as a political party within the new Sanctii electoral system.

Feminisvs Sanctvsterra has competed in international sports events before, winning several medals at the Games of the VIII Olympiad and competing in the 11th Handball World Cup. However, they have had their greatest success in the World Korfball Classic, where they have won 2 out of 4 WKCs, with a third place in their only other attempt. In World Cup 67, they almost qualified for the World Cup, despite having little to no experience in competitive soccer before they entered that World Cup, after the official Saintland National Team boycotted qualifying over the results of a host vote. Due to the circumstances under which members of the organization have lived, the Feministvs Sanctvsterra Baseball Team has remarkably high levels of team chemistry. They lived their lives on the run from the authorities for several years, so members of Feministvs Sanctvsterra are deeply loyal to one another and to their organization. This loyalty translates into team-oriented play, with an emphasis on pitching, defense and small ball. They previously participated in WBCs 29 and 30, with middling records in both tournaments.

Although the Feministvs Sanctsterra Baseball Team does not include any male players, the idea that Feministvs Sanctvsterra is all female is a common misconception. Around 10 percent of the group's membership is male, mostly comprised of brothers of the group's members.

Crisis Medical Center Stadium
Image
Location: Bloodbenderopolis, Frenline Delpha
Capacity: 20,000

This scenic stadium is locate in the heart of Frenline Delpha, the capital of Bloodbenderopolis. It is a very anti-pitcher park. Walls are short, and height is actually medium. On a good day, balls may fly out of the stadium. It was constructed in 2013, and it is the home of the Bloodbenderopolis Cannons. It has also doubled as a concert hall, and it can host soccer matches. Rated one of the best ballparks in Frenline Delpha, Crisis Medical Center Stadium is a beautiful ballpark. It will host all of Frenline Delpha's home games in group play of the WBC.

#66 First Base Coach: Schoolteacher 19DHAHE (Age 40)
#24 Bench Coach: Grammar Enforcement Officer OOA0010 (R/R Age 33)

After World Baseball Classic 33, Retiree 913H012S retired as manager and bench coach Assistant Sports Minister Grant Armstrong was promoted to take his place. Backup catcher Grammar Enforcement Officer OOA0010 announced his retirement from play in order to become the bench coach and Cheese Police 4827HDKSXZ took his place as backup/defensive replacement. Additionally, center fielder Executioner 9D8AH announced his retirement to become the fielding coach, a newly created position. Prune Farmer IKEALUKA9 will replace him on the roster, but will sit on the bench for now with Navy SuperAdmiral Kurt DeathToSanJoseGuayabal being inserted into the lineup. Additionally, following International Baseball Slam IX, several players, all soldiers, were killed in the Great War of Esportiva and have been replaced on the roster. A memorial service will be held before the first home game, and during the Seventh Inning Stretch of every home game, someone will sing "Lord Almighty Gregory Bless Gregoryisgodistan" in addition to "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."

Stadium:

Due to the destruction of Lord Almighty Gregory Baseball Stadium by Wolfopian terrorists (OOC: actually a Gregoryisgodistani false flag), all home games will be played at Pervert Chaser NAUSJW Ballpark, formerly known as Covello Field, located in District 27, about half a mile from Covello Bay. It was renamed prior to the IBS to honor former pitching coach and pitcher Pervert Chaser NAUSJW who was arrested in New Wolfopolis during the World Baseball Classic for performing his job, castrating and dickapitating Mount Tamobet players competing in the nude. He is currently in Wolfopian prison. The arrest of Pervert Chaser NAUSJW led to Gregoryisgodistan adding New Wolfopolis to the Enemy List, which according to the Gregoryisgodistani government was the impetus for the terrorist attack.

Pervert Chaser NAUSJW Ballpark seats 4,000 fans. Beyond the fence is a small patch of woods. Beyond that are some luxury houses, and beyond that is Covello Bay and the District 27 Marina, where the wealthy dock their personal yachts. The marina also has space for foreign ships to dock. It can hold fairly large ships. Ships with capacities up to 50 people should be able to dock there, possibly more if they are small enough. The marina area is off limits to Gregoryisgodistani commoners, who will be executed if they trespass, but foreigners do not need to worry about that provided they have their papers. Teams can either fly into Lord Almighty Gregory National Airport in the Capital District and travel approximately 600 miles by bus or travel by boat, dock at the marina, and rent a bus to drive about a mile to the stadium. (Walking from the marina is also possible.) Teams traveling by boat should inform the Gregoryisgodistani government as soon as possible so that customs can meet them there and space can be made for their boat. Please include the number of people traveling with you.

RP:

Choose my Lineup No - follow what was posted.
Choose my Runscorers Yes
RP Injuries Yes, one per game.
Godmod Injuries Yes, but note the above restriction.
Follow my Rotation: Yes
Eject my players: Yes, one per game unless you eject a commensurate number of yours. For instance, you can eject three of my players if you eject two of yours. This includes coaches, who can be ejected but count towards the limit. An exception is that you can eject both my manager and my pitcher for throwing at a batter after a warning (as the rules say should happen) and this counts as one ejection.
Godmod other events: Yes, do anything except kill Lord Almighty Gregory, our head of state and official deity. Failed assassinations and fake assassinations using prop heads are fine. However, expect reciprocation. If you kill one of my players, that's fine, but I'm going to kill one of yours. If you don't TG me first to ask which one I'd be ok with killing, I won't TG you first, I'll just kill one, though if you kill a bench player I would kill one of your bench players, not a starter. I will do this WITHOUT CHECKING YOUR RP PERMISSIONS because it is far too complicated to figure out whether we'd both be in violation of each other's RP permissions or whether you made an exception, meaning we're both fine.
Other: If you do an RP involving my country, but do not mention it by name ("Gregoryisgodistan" without any formatting in the middle of the word such as striking "isgod" to make Gregoryisgodistan) TG me to give me a heads up. You do not need to wait for permission, and there is a chance I won't bother to reply. I frequently search for mentions of my nation so I can reply to RP's, but if you don't mention it by name, I can't do that. If for whatever IC reason you refer to my country by some other name (Gregoryisgodistan, Gregoryistan, Gregoryisnotgodistan, "that country with a name so blasphemous I cannot speak it" etc.) that is fine but either mention my country by name in an OOC note or TG me.
Use DH at home: Yes. But we're using official MLB rules, not international rules, so if you have a starting pitcher who is a good hitter, you may bat him instead of a DH, but then you lose your right to a DH for the remainder of the game even if you go to the bullpen. It also means if you move your DH to the field, you have you bat the pitcher for the remainder of the game. Normally, he would bat in the spot of the player who was replaced, but you could always do a double switch. He has to bat somewhere though.

THE TIGERS RETURN: WBC34 ROSTER

The Tigers began at the twenty-third World Baseball Classic, held in Qazox, not looking to do that well. To their surprise, they performed quite well after all, winning six and losing a mere four to place third, only behind co-debutants Maklohi Vai on tiebreakers. This pattern of "really quite well, but not quite well enough" continued under manager Thomas Yaft, as a 5-5 record and fourth-place finish in Lycrabon at WBC 24 and a 5-5 record and third-place finish by virtue of the second tiebreaker, H2H RD, which put them behind Skeckoa by three runs and led to minor controversy in Equestrian States for WBC 25.

They finally broke through at Cassadaigua for WBC 26, with a last-day victory Allinlia giving them a 6-4 record and sealing their path through to the Promised Land of the playoffs for the first time in their now twelve-year history. But against the Phoenixes of Equestrian States, they stood no chance, as the Equestrians swept them out of the Round of 24 two games to none.

After this, the nation founded the International Baseball Slam, but at IBS I and II, they found only middling success, placing fourth and sixth in a field of eight nations.

At WBC 27, they bested the same Phoenixes to go six and two in Maklohi Vai and Saintland and clinched a spot in the Round of 16 thanks to their superior victory. But Kriegersen swept them out of the tournament, and going into WBC 28 with a fourteenth-place ranking, they still had not won more than six games in a tournament or won a playoff match. At IBS III, this troubling trend continued as Nova Anglicana swept them out of the quarterfinals despite their 5-1 record propelling the Tigers to the number-one seed.

After a 6-4 record in the WBC 28, the Tigers went through a difficult bracket to defeat Maklohi Vai, Vaugania, Nova Anglicana, and the Royal Barangay in thirteen games and found themselves world champions and world number-two. While many cried "fluke", especially after they failed to advance out of the group stage at IBS IV, they continued to charge through the playoffs of the WBC, this time beating Feministvs Sanctvsterra, Ko-oren, and Cassadaigua, all good teams, before playing The Royal Barangay with revenge, the world number-one ranking, the world crown, and for the Tigers, a chance to become the fourth team to defend their crown. The Royal Barangay took the series lead twice, but each time the Tigers responded to force a deciding Game Five.

They lost, the bullpen, so reliable during the playoffs, imploding and conceding just enough runs for the Indios to wrest away the world championship. But at IBS V, Imota beat three-time champions Gregoryisgodistan in the quarterfinals, and the Tigers took advantage of the power vacuum to, after beating Nova Anglicana again in the semifinals, defeat newcomers Orennana in the championship series to take the IBS title. And after winning the bid to co-host WBC 30 with New Wolfopolis, they once again took back the WBC crown after defeating Jeckland three games to one in the finals. But after a dynamo group stage at the IBS VI, they proceeded to royally screw up their playoff pool, falling to Mammoreck and then being knocked out via a 15-2 thrashing at the hands of Imota.

And then they won thirty-nine games in a row and swept Jeckland to take WBC 31. Despite a mediocre showing at the IBS, dynastic brilliance lead Imotan sportswriters to declare it the "Age of the Llama". Whereupon the Tigers crashed out in the group stages of WBC32 and was forced to rest WBC33.

After WBC33 was skipped entirely and most of the disappointing team taken out, the LBF decided to re-enter the nation's beloved Tigers back into the run. This time, the team has a new, younger look after its aging core was too old to sustain the rigors of such a long WBC.

JERSEYS! "Home" "Away"

Michelle COLHAM, #39, 22, 2B
2014 season: .255/.338/.468, 23 HR, 76 RBI, 13 SB
Her arm wasn't good enough for shortstop, and her fly-ball instincts weren't good enough for the outfield, but after a bit of bouncing around in the minors after she was made the seventeenth pick of the draft at nineteen, she's found her home at second base - and with a phenomenal season of defense her first year, she's here to stay. Her range is unbelievable, giving any manager a wide array of options as shifts go. Her bat, however, leaves something to be desired - a good amount of pop, but not enough consistent hitting-for-contact and too many strikeouts.
Travis FAULKNER, #10, 24, SS-DH
2014 season: .352/.436/.588, 38 HR, 110 RBI, 1 SB
Phenomenal all-around hitter, but his defense leaves...a lot to be desired. It's ugly, Faulkner not being the fastest shortstop. He hasn't been able to make a name for himself at any other position, making him quite the misfit domestically, but with hitting that good there's always someone who wants him.
Xander FIERS, #1, 25, SS
2014 season: .327/.399/.526, 28 HR, 99 RBI, 36 SB
There were some concerns about his hitting, but the once slick-fielding, toolsy shortstop prospect has turned into a consistent MVP candidate. Despite struggles his first year, any doubts about him were put away for good after he hit .339 his sophomore year and turned in a 30-30 season as well. Good power to left and center, but even more could develop if he learns to go the other way. Defensively, he's a godsend, and Fiers is quick on the basepaths too.
Albert FORD, #18, 22, C
2014 season: .309/.415/.468, 13 HR, 75 RBI, 11 SB
Not really that fast, but good instincts on the basepaths take him from first to third pretty often. He's a solid hitter, one who can hit much higher than the .309 he put up his rookie season, but his power is missing and even the thirteen bombs he did hit were mostly aided by playing in Llamanea's smallest park. Slow bat speed is another mark against him, but he compensates for it well. Defensively, he's a great pitch-caller, but not quite there yet in terms of blocking.
Maddie POLANCO, #2, 26, 1B
2014 season: .311/.407/.488, 18 HR, 88 RBI, 20 SB
The only good first baseman with more stolen bases than home runs, Polanco, a bit of a late bloomer who didn't make the majors with South Falls until she was twenty-four, has fantastic hitting, really strong patience, and possibly the world's best defense at first base, able to scoop anything out of the dirt. Also quite fast.
Courtney STEPHENSON, #20, 20, CIF/LF/RF
2014 season (Minors): .300/.388/.492, 25 HR, 77 RBI, 36 SB
Still not there yet, but her potential is obvious and she's one of the best all-around prospects there is. A true five-tool player, but with the lack of experience she's unlikely to start.
Michael TRABAJEN, #3, 35, C-1B
2014 season: .387/.474/.502, 12 HR, 97 RBI, 0 SB
Would you leave somebody hitting .387 off your national team? The veteran Trabajen, who's played sixteen seasons in the big leagues, still has it, although nowadays he relies on smarts (figuring out what the pitcher will throw) and a beautiful ability to go the other way.
Logan WALKER, #8, 24, 3B
2014 season: .322/.425/.550, 18 HR, 111 RBI, 16 SB
A bit of an enigma - the RBI/HR ratio is high, and that's because Walker has never been a big home run hitter. But he churns out doubles and triples like a machine, with power to both gaps combining with some good speed for a potent combination, and his fielding is top-notch. A truly underrated player.

Owen DUFFY, #35, 23, RF
2014 season: .268/.340/.448, 25 HR, 87 RBI, 8 SB
Absolutely stunning defensively, Duffy regularly reaches over the wall to snag would-be home runs: a new acquisition for the New Llama Cyclones, he showed his skill early in the season against crosstown rivals New Llama Wizards, snagging a would-be game-tying home run by grabbing onto the top of the wall and flipping his entire arm over to snag the ball at the tip of his glove to save the game. Offensively, he's dangerous enough, but not usually that great of a threat. His highlight-reel plays come in right, but he's capable in left and even center as well.
Jason PATRICK, #57, 25, LF
2014 season: .255/.338/.542, 48 HR, 136 RBI, 2 SB
A masher. Really a one-tool player, but the one tool has made his career - over five seasons in the majors, he's hit over forty home runs three times (38, 45, 52, 36, 48) and looks on pace to do it again. A liability everywhere else and a possible backup DH.
Emily PIERCE, #24, 35, CF
2014 season: .333/.400/.500, 13 HR, 65 RBI, 12 SB
Once a speedster who could slap it to get on base and do little else, Pierce matured into an all-around threat who could beat you with speed, with consistent doubles power, and with an above-average hit tool that since WBC32 has become fantastic. The downside? At thirty-five, she's slowed down, her twelve thefts last year a career low, and reversing the trend will be a must if she wants to stay ahead Tobias Wagner.
Tobias WAGNER, #33, 26, OF
2014 season: .268/.355/.498, 29 HR, 107 RBI, 46 SB
Devilishly fast, superior defensively, and with a good bit - a great bit, really - of power too, Tobias Wagner could be the next Tigers superstar. The .268 average isn't pretty, but if that improves than Wagner could be unstoppable. Cameron's decision to put Emily Pierce in center to start the classic has already left many viewers scratching their heads.

Kyle HOGAN, #25, 23, R
2014 season: 18-6, 2.65 ERA, 210 IP, 234 K/75 BB
A mid-90s fastball with a devilish bit of late sink to it and a very hard low-90s cutter make Hogan unhittable, and he was a hard-working ace his rookie season, winning Rookie of the Year. His breaking pitch, a mid-80s slider, tends to hang out in the middle of the plate too often, while his low-80s changeup is little more than a change of pace. Likes to work inside, but not up, as he's a bit mistake-prone - but when he's mistake-free, he's unhittable.
Brad RODRIGUEZ, #31, 26, R
2014 season: 17-8, 2.95 ERA, 188 IP, 180 K/36 BB
Rodriguez's "stuff" isn't the best, but his absurd control makes him a dangerous opponent to face and one most hitters would rather avoid. A fastball that tops out at 94 isn't too impressive, but he can make it spin however he wants and couples it with a big-break curve to devastating effect. Rodriguez has also crafted a decent low-90s two-seamer to add to his repertoire, and the three pitches, all brilliantly commanded, are deadly.
Josva REYNOLDS, #22, 33, L
2014 season: 10-0, 1.06 ERA, 93 IP, 67 K/10 BB
Sliders! Curves! Cutters! Sinkers! Screwballs! Rumors that he's developing a shuuto! Impeccable control! All of this makes Reynolds, despite his fastball that tops out at eighty-eight, one of the best pitchers in the nation - and after coming back from injury with a new pitch, he was unhittable the second half of last season, putting up absurd lines in his twelve starts, giving up just eleven earned runs in those starts.
Wesley VENTURA, #66, 27, L
2014 season: 17-10, 3.32 ERA, 201 IP, 240 K/75 BB
You couldn't call the polarizing, questionably stable Wesley Ventura "consistent", but you could note his occasional utter dominance - take, for instance, the MVP season of 2010 when he struck out 267 with a sparkling 2.05 ERA. His fastball tops out at ninety-eight, but it's flat and he has poor command of it. He also has a high-80s slider that's utterly unhittable if in the strike zone, and he polishes things off with a deadly changeup with a good bit of drop to it.
Brittany HENDRICKSON, #14, 30, R
2014 Season: 17-5, 3.03 ERA, 189 IP, 165 K/38 BB
Utterly impervious to pressure, Hendrickson has made a career out of her ability to destroy even the most elite hitter's timing. Her straight low-90s fastball isn't much by itself, but she also boasts a low-70s curve and change, as well as a decent mid-80s slider. It's not known how well she'll adapt upon her return, as she wasn't too good her first time around.

[i]A note: these are their recommended roles, but most of these are elite Llamanean relievers and can fill other roles pretty well. The closer isn't the best pitcher - that'd be the fireman. Think Dellin Betances.

Long: Anna STEVENS, #45, 22, R
2014 Season: N/A
A fireballing rookie for the New Llama Cyclones, Stevens made headlines when her bonus demands caused her to drop out of the number-one draft spot and down to thirteenth, where things were made worse by her refusal to play for the team that drafted her. The PR crisis seemed to negatively affect her even after it was revealed her agent was mostly to blame, but on her path to redeem herself, she still has a well-commanded fastball that tops out at ninety-nine and a slider and curve that are both above-average.
LOOGY: Corey LINDBERG, #46, 27
2014 Season: 2-3, 0.88 ERA, 46 IP, 55 K/23 BB
A hard low-90s sinker...and that's about it. He'll come in, bang up a hitter (Lindberg is not afraid to go inside), get some ground balls, and leave after two outs. Hitters started adapting to the sinker, and because of that he can now throw a low-80s circle change and hit the outside corner, sometimes - it has an alarming tendency to drift into the middle of the plate.
Middle Left: Chris CEDENO, #38, 25
2014 Season: 5-2, 1.52 ERA, 45 IP, 72 K/20 BB
Cedeno is your typical bullpen fireballer. Arm injuries sent him to the bullpen, and his wicked two-seamer has allowed him to dominate the Llamanean leagues to the tune of a 1.52 ERA. An elite reliever with the hard-biting two-seamer and a good cutter, Cedeno is often called "The Saw" and can destroy lefties and righties alike, although his stronger two-seamer means he's better against lefties.
Middle Right: Brendan FORTIN, #46, 25
2014 Season: 8-0, 1.29 ERA, 78 IP, 85 K/50 BB
Last year was a coming-out party for sidearming fireman Brendan Fortin, but a disturbing BABIP has the team leery about using him too much. Fortin's out-pitch, a 95-mph fastball, isn't that impressive until you realize its alarming rise - combined with his sidearm movement, the fastball drives hitters crazy and he complements it with an above-average changeup. Command has been Fortin's issue, but the sky's the limit.
Setup Left: Wictor Walquist, #48, 25
2014 Season: 5-3, 2.97 ERA, 64 IP, 48 K/12 BB
Walquist doesn't throw very hard, but he's a crafty lefty who is very good at hitting his spots and making his two-seamer, splitter, and slider work. He looked hittable at times last year, blaming some blisters on it - but with said blisters healed, he should go back to his old dominant form.
Setup Right: Adam LI, #29, 24
2014 Season: 6-3, 2.48 ERA, 82 IP, 75 K/29 BB
Li is another bullpen flamethrower, but one with good control - a fastball with bite that sits in the 95-98 range, and a very good curve. As if those two pitches weren't enough, he's reportedly developed a slider that can hit the corner consistently, although it doesn't move very much.
Closer: HAN RHODERICK, #57, 26
2014 Season: 3-5, 2.29 ERA, 78 IP, 90 K/33 BB
Rhoderick's knockout slider is his out pitch, but he also has a flat 94-mph fastball. He usually has good control of both, but he's very quick to get upset and it affects his consistency greatly.
Fireman: Troy VASQUEZ, #50, 23
2014 Season: 8-3, 1.64 ERA, 92 IP, 115 K/33 BB
The star of the bullpen for sure, Vasquez is one of the most dominant relievers Super-Llamaland has ever seen - his second season as fireman was a down year for him as hitters started to figure him out (2013: a jaw-dropping line of 7-1, 1.02 ERA, 95 IP, 137 K/40 BB), but his 96-mph fastball, 90-mph shuuto, 88-mph cutter, and 80-mph changeup all move a ton in all four different directions and some different speeds as well with good control to make him unbeatable.

Manager: Alex CAMERON, 54, #07 (Manager, South Falls)
Pitching Coach: J.R. SHEFFIELD, 56 (Pitching coach, South Falls)
Hitting Coach: Castor INRIQUEZ, 40 (Hitting coach, Wheathampton)
First-base Coach: Nick HORRY, 64 (Manager, New Llama Wizards)
Third-base Coach: Derek NILSSEN, 58 (Third-base coach, New Llama Cyclones)
Bullpen Coach: Will KEARNS, 60 (Pitching coach, Emerald Springs)
Team Trainer: John NICHOLSON, 57 (Trainer, Kyrinson)

Yes, you read right - Alex Cameron. Tigers superstar, one of their best players throughout his six classics and still the team leader in home runs. After his playing days ended, retiring after the Tigers' championship run to WBC 28, he took to managing quickly. Moving quickly up the minor-league ladder, he soon secured jobs at Ruby Falls, and after guiding the team to decency when they only deserved mediocrity, was fired after a disastrous start to his seventh season, the team going 13-29 to start things off on the wrong foot. After that, he joined his old team, Apple Valley, for a few decent years before new club South Falls, in anticipation of their creation, hired him to take the team's young players to the next level - and so far, with a .500 record in the notoriously tough Central Conference, he's been doing his job well enough.

The others are all some of the best coaches around the nation - leaders and innovators, every last one, in their own way. Special notice was given to clubhouse chemistry.

The Federal Republic of Schiltzberg offers the tournament use of Royal Dome, home of the New Schiltzbierg Grand Dukes of the NBLS, which is owned and paid for by the taxpaying citizens of New Schiltzbierg. The elegant stadium is the only stadium in the NBLS to have a fixed roof, but the elegant stadium is dubbed as "unique" rather than "outdated" for this feature. The stadium was built as Schiltzberg Stadium in 1978, and was host to several teams until it was bought by the NBLS when it was founded in 2000. The name was changed to Royal Dome in 2000. The New Schiltzbierg Grand Dukes have played at Royal Dome since 2000, and the New Schiltzbierg Prime Ministers (now the Presidents) also played there from 2000 to 2012.

THE CAREER RECAP

What is TCR? - TCR is a website designed to, with both text and statistics, recap, well, the career of past Llamanean notables...read more
---
JAKE EARNEST
Born January 2, 1973 in Burton, Kyrinson -- Drafted 17th overall in 1990 draft by Talahita

The career of Jake Earnest took many twists and turns, but in the end the star right-fielder collected a huge collection of awards, making the all-star team twenty times (a record), becoming the first player to hit .400 in decades, and winning nine MVP awards, five of which were in a row.

Earnest, growing up in Burton, a suburb of the former colonial capital Penbrooke, attended North Burton High School and, to the surprise of many, the admissions counselors at Vargas University, a school he'd already agreed to go to, especially - most balked at the idea of picking a high schooler who hadn't gone into the nation's elite college baseball program, but it was Talahita that took a flyer on him in the seventeenth round.

After an exceptionally brief minor-league career that was the stuff of legend (13 games, 57 PA: 31-for-44, 6 HR, 17 RBI, .705/.772/1.159), Earnest was called up for the majors and set the league on fire, batting .377 on his way to the first of thirteen batting titles - Earnest was such a good hitter that he won the title in more than half the seasons he played - and an all-star appearance, starting in right field. In total, Earnest hit over .400 his first professional season, but it wasn't enough to save a middling Talahita club that finished 79-74.

This trend of excellent individual performance and middling team performance continued when he won his first MVP award in 1991 despite being the leader of a 70-83 team and his two nearly 30-30 seasons in which the team combined to finish 152-154. Earnest continued to hit excellently, but the press often knocked him, falsely, for poor leadership as the reason the Tigers couldn't finish above .500. In addition, he was only twenty, younger than most rookies in the league despite being a four-year veteran, and missed home. The negative attention created a vicious cycle, and although good luck helped him to hit .322, he hit a mere fifteen home runs and posted the lowest OPS of his career by eighty-five points.

Shortly before the 1995 season, Earnest suffered a hip injury that would keep him out for the first half of the season - the second half was taken away by a leg injury during rehab. But he seemed to need the break after a horrifying end to 1994 in which he hit .192 in the last month, and it helped, Earnest rediscovering his old form and hitting .363.

He became a free-agent after the season, and it seemed inevitable he would leave Vargas - he delivered, signing a six-year, forty-million dollar with cash-strapped hometown club Kyrinson, who believed that a stay back in his old boyhood city would ensure a consistent six years. And he delivered. He hit a relatively poor .311 and clashed with manager Bert Jordan, but the team gave him a vote of confidence by firing their manager of sixteen years and promoting his third-base coach, Aaron Walquist - but Earnest once again paid off for the team, hitting 111 home runs over the next three seasons and winning a pair of batting titles, with a wRC+ of 174. His speed began to drop off, but it was a small price to pay for gaining power and Earnest hit forty-five home runs in 2002.

Kyrinson started to get even more dire financially, and Earnest had to sign a shorter contract (3Y/15M) to stay with the team. He responded by putting up arguably the greatest trio of seasons in modern baseball history - almost hitting .400 with 50 home runs three times, but instead settling for a .398 mark with an average of forty-seven home runs per seasons, easily taking home three straight MVPs. Kyrinson improved steadily after a bunch of .500 seasons across two teams - in 2003, the team went 80-73, missing out on the playoffs by five games, and in 2004, the team sent Earnest to his first-ever playoffs appearance in fifteen seasons by going 89-64 - but Earnest's bat went silent in the first round and the team was swept. They'd have another go at it with eighty-six wins in 2005, and this time Earnest carried them to the semifinals by hitting over .325 in two rounds. He signed a cheap deal again to stay with Kyrinson, but his performance dropped from godlike to merely fantastic, and the team struggled accordingly.

He finally decided to make a move the year after, signing for forty-five million dollars over five years to play for the juggernaut New Llama Cyclones, but his first two years left a lot on the table. He had a good first game for the Cyclones in 2007, going two-for-four with an RBI double and a walk, before being injured after the game and eventually missing the entire season - rehabbing the year after, he was so awful in the minor leagues the team just kept him there while rookie outfielder David Black hit his way into the lineup. But an injury to Black gave Earnest another shot, and he performed passably despite being thirty-six years old, although an unfortunate injury and the fact that Black would've started over him anyways kept him from playoffs action - but he took a significant step up the year after, hitting .305 with twenty-six home runs and providing acceptable defense, Black being shifted to center at the expense of streaky outfielder Lars Laurila. And Earnest - well, he hit an agonizing .399 the year after, one hit away from hitting .400 again.

Kyrinson's financials cleared up a bit later, so he went back on a one-year deal and finally hit .400, his .402 average the highest in ages. Voted MVP despite declining power, Earnest left on a high note - but with the stigma of only making the playoffs thrice, despite probably being the greatest player of his generation.

THE "YOU HAVE TEN MINUTES TO TALK ABOUT THE NORTH STARS, GO" CHALLENGE

Contestant One - Rudolf Stevensson, acclaimed blogger

When reading the starting lineup our beloved North Stars will be taking to the thirty-game WBC held in Saintland, "intriguing" was the word on everyone's lips. When reading the pitchers we'd bring, everybody immediately requested manager Aaron Rutherford be fired. But nonetheless, we'll all be cheering on the North Stars in the weeks ahead, so we might as well figure out who's playing.

The Lineup
1. Kris Ezra, SS, #05, 25
2. Neil Olafson, LF, #02, 22
3. Henrik Persson, C, #09, 30
4. Alec Jonsson, 1B, #11, 25
5. Oscar Karlson, RF, #13, 32
6. Jon Bengtsson, 3B, #15, 27
7. Nikko Mikkelson, CF, #27, 18
8. Lukas Maelstrom, 2B, #99, 40

Kris Ezra, the half-Eirelian important, will look to surprise at shortstop - picked over Maelstrom and a number of deserving candidates, the speed-and-defense shortstop will try to make his mark on the WBC. His contact and speed should see him maintain a .300 average or higher, even with strong competition, but sample size is fickle. Neil Olafson is a defensive liability in left-field, but his patience and speed make him a player not to be trifled with. Henrik Persson is probably the best hitter on the team, with Ezra a close second - a five-tool player with no particular strengths or weaknesses, but a strong leader and caller of games behind the plate. Alec Jonsson, the young first-baseman, occasionally sees his wild hacks come nowhere near the ball, but crushes whatever he actually makes contact with. Oscar Karlson in right-field is strong defensively and regularly hits over .320 in the domestic leagues, but he's not getting any younger or less injury-prone. Jon Bengtsson is, well, a third baseman - he's got decent power, but nothing special. Nikko Mikkelson despite being just eighteen, is already really fast and a good center-fielder, but, er, he can't hit. Which brings us to none other than Mr. 426, Lukas Maelstrom, although Mr. 226 would be more fitting - he's, erm, experienced? Not that he'd be the sort to, you know, share his knowledge with Mikkelson and Ezra or anything.

And then there's the pitching staff. Immanuel Moller is your typical sinkerballer, but he has actual command which is interesting. Lars Jonsson throws fire and nothing else, and the fire is of the shirt-nicking variety. Nils Bengtsson has a really good curve and also a sinker/cutter combo that at times looks kind of threatening, but he doesn't throw at all fast enough or have good enough control. Sven Nilssen tops out at eighty-six and only has a live fastball, but his command is fantastic. Oscar Karlson is a knuckleballer which should be interesting. Drew Eriksson's a guy with reverse platoon splits, which is interesting, and also a nice shootball and changeup mix - he's one of the better of the lot. Jakob Karjalainen has a nice slider but no command, which should be a problem, and "not the other one" Jakob Pederssen, who throws ninety-two tops, has an inconsistent fastball/slurve/sinker combo that's electrifying when on and horrifying when off. Magnus Svensen has a medicore breaking ball and a mediocre fastball, but somehow manages to do very well due to his dedicated study of film before games. Erik Olafsen is a good hitter for his position but his hard cutter/curve mix leaves something to be desired. Johan Nilssen is the designated closer and he has a wipeout slider plus a very good fastball, but if he messes up it'll be the cutter/eephus Jakob Svensson. Han Pritchard, the designated long man, will likely start games, but although he has stamina and a repertoire of fastball, curve, slider, and change with mediocre speed and command, he's unlikely to finish them.

Nassau National Baseball Team

Trigram: NAS
Nickname: The Eagles, The Hessen

Capacity: ~16,000

Coming In

Surprisingly, the Hessian baseball team was one of the sole components of Nassauite athletics that fared the tempestuous waters of the eerily isolated period. For two entire tournament cycles did the Hessen submit not as much as an official lineup. Now, coming out of the shrouded mysterious time, the roster reveals little change in the roster. But with their successes as of late, who would blame this managerial detached-ness? The Eagles have a few new good-looking prospects added to the squad, who are sure to pack a punch in all areas.

In the past IBS-WBC cycle, Nassau managed to land a spot in Group F at Strait of Santaguerra Ballpark within the boundaries famed host: Gregoryisgodistan. Giving the pitchers a break, singular home-away games were used as an alternative to larger three game series. Nassau (2nd best-ranked in Group F) got off to a lukewarm start of 2-3 in the first half of competition with some reasonable wins and losses, but some inability still clear. All of the sudden, the Eagles' bats came alive to win three straight with no less than six runs in each game. This spurt of victories led the Hessen into the uncommon four-horse race of teams with five wins with two to go. Unfortunately for the blue and gold, they lost two matches straight to be nipped out of a knockout phase spot in anticlimactic fashion to a lower positioned team. Nevertheless, the ending of .500 merited an ascension of three spots in rank.

The result of the ninth International Baseball Slam was perhaps more befuddling given the circumstances of the team. Inactive in the eighth installment and down to 23rd rank, the outlook was bleak for any advancement. Despite being this rank, they were able to acquire a seventh overall spot and a secondary pot placement prior to the group draw. They ended up in Group C, an even mix of both familiar (Nova Anglicana, Patistian) and unprecedented (Kaboomlandia, Lunar Republic) adversaries. Composing of a ten match day group stage followed by a round of sixteen, the Hessen got off to a quick 0-2, merely to just as hastily return to .500 at 2-2. Nassau didn't stop there as they earned another deuce of victories to improve to 4-2. It wasn't until a 10 inning 1-0 pitchers duel against the Patistani that the four game streak was softly vanquished. In the final game of group play, the Eagles soundly defeated the second-place-suitors of the Lunar Republic 12-6, cementing their surprising playoff berth. The only problem was that the post-group pairing put them in a more unlikely spot than the group stage itself. Abanhleft dominated competition in group stage, and it was expected that the streak would continue at the expense of Nassau. Astonishingly, the Hessen won the first game of the best-of-three. The Revolution, terrified of the Hessen becoming a bogey team, swiftly won the final two games despite a nerve-wracking rubber game. That is where we leave off.

Cosumar National Baseball Team
WBC 34 Saintland

Roster and Information

Basic Team Information

Nation - The Fiefdom of Cosumar
Demonym - Cosumarite
Region - Atlantian Oceania
Official Colors - Royal Blue, White, Silver
Domestic League - Professional Baseball League of Cosumar ("PBL")
History - This is Cosumar's 19th WBC. Though the Dragons are experienced at this competition, they have never been particularly successful. Our current ranking of 9th is one of our best ever, though it has dipped slightly from our peak ranking of #7 following our semifinals appearance in WBC 32.
Style Modifier - -2.5

Stadia

Primary Stadium - Orangi Field (Indoor, Capacity 55.000)

Sponsored by Cosumar's most popular carbonated beverage "Orangi Flavored Sodas", Orangi Field is an enormous indoor baseball complex in Holmenkollen, a suburb of the capital Ramusok. In pleasant weather, the dome's roof will be open, welcoming that beloved sunny-day baseball game feel. However, in the event of precipitation, the roof can be closed as seen below. Orangi Field was constructed prior to Cosumar's WBC 18 campaign. It has been selected to once again serve as the Dragons' primary home field for the 34th World Baseball Classic.

Secondary Stadium - Royal Park (Outdoor, Capacity 41.000)

Royal Park is a beautiful old-fashioned field that serves as the home field for our most famous domestic team, the Ramusok Royals. Although not as high-tech as Orangi Field, Royal Park is legendary here in Cosumar because of its rich history. It is known as Royal Park not just because of the team name of its tennant, but also because it is just right down the road from the Royal Palace. King James II himself is often sighted here for games. From the natural green grass to the cheap food, 59-year-old Royal Park offers the classic ballgame experience. Decades worth of tradition and amazing moments of Cosumarite baseball. It will serve as an alternate to Orangi Field in case of emergency, and our FIRST home game is always played here due to tradition.

Uniform

Image

The uniform of Cosumar Baseball, as always, consists of a navy shirt with silver sleeves and pants. The hat is also navy, with a silver C in the center. The socks are silver with a blue stripe. The number will go in the top right corner of the front of the shirt and in the center on the back. The player's last name will be placed on the back, arched over the number.

Coaching Staff

Manager - Toby MacHart

This will be MacHart's third WBC in charge, after replacing 87-year-old longtime manager Don Clintson after WBC 31. MacHart, 61, is much younger than his predecessor, but still offers a bevy of experience in the game. He was a PBL superstar as a player until a knee injury cut short his legacy at age 29. After a few failed comebacks were stalled by nagging knee issues, MacHart decided to go into coaching since he couldn't play anymore. At 32, he became the youngest PBL manager in history with expansion team Olask Bulldogs. After a long and successful tenure at Olask, he departed to become a baseball broadcast specialist for CSBN for many years. He made his grand return to coaching to assist Clintson in WBC 31 as an assistant. Clintson's stroke just before WBC 32 thrust MacHart into his first managerial position in over a decade, but he thrived right away. The players love him and draw from his energy and confidence.

First Base Coach - Rodney Bellums

Bellums was a baseball phenom in college. He was the #1 draft pick into the PBL many years ago. After a few seasons it was clear he was a huge bust, not cut out for the big leagues. After being downgraded to the minor leagues and disappointing even at that level, Bellums decided he was done with baseball. He tried an assortment of projects including starting businesses but none were successful. After many years he decided to go back to the game he loved - but this time as a coach. He started out with small positions for small teams but eventually worked his way up to become to First Base Coach of the National Team. 55 years old.

Third Base Coach - Louis Copenhaver

Copenhaver is much different than his fellow coaches. He was never really much of a baseball player. He just loved to watch his hometown team - the Ramusok Royals. His enthusiasm for the Royals earned him the spot of "Bat Boy" at age 13. He stuck with the job for 5 or 6 years and was mentored in the finer points of the game by Don Clintson himself. When their opening for Base Running Coach came up a few years later, Copenhaver was persistent and gave them no choice but to hire him. After awhile he continued to move up in the organization. Last year was his seventh season as the Royals' third base coach and is in the running to fill the vacancy that just opened up at Manager. When Don Clintson left the Royals to be the National Team manager, who better to be the third base coach than his protégée Copenhaver? Clintson is now gone, but Copenhaver has earned the respect of all the other players and coaches with his brilliant baseball mind and friendly demeanor. He is currently 39 years old.
