2014 Regional Sovereignty Conference

Introduction

For the past few months, we have seen many new political developments, but none so concerning as those which threaten our homes, our regional sovereignty and our political independence. This conference marks a realization that, as regions, we need to stand together to protect what we have before it is lost.

The conference has been in the works now for the past several months - the brainchild of those who wish to see our regions remain soverign and free. The values of regional sovereignty include the supremacy of an independent regional authority, the right to self-determination from oppression and subversion, and, above all else, the right to govern oneself without the pressures of foriegn influence and the pervasive forces that seek to undermine our local political cultures.

Given that Lazarus is the host and is virulently anti-imperialist, and the euphemisms used in the statement, I would imagine "Regional Sovereignty Conference" is code for "Anti-Imperialist Conference." It couldn't possibly be a serious conference on regional sovereignty as Lazarus remains the GCR with the largest concentration of those who have repeatedly violated the sovereignty of Feeders and Sinkers but been promoted to the highest echelons of government.

Considering that the OP looks like it's going to be a selective group of regions involved(since they're taking applications and will announce participating regions later, rather than letting regions just say "hey I'm attending")... Can we at least comment on the irony or is that going to far?

Or how about the fact that Funk is hosting a conference for those "wishing to see our regions remain sovereign and free" while he has a death grip on Lazarus? I get the feeling this is less about "regional sovereignty" and more about earning Funk's communist dictatorship respect abroad. This is a velvet glove for an iron fist, and I, for one, can't take it seriously.

Lazarus in it's present form has been built up by defender elitists, using force to crush opposition and democracy, ensuring the propagation of Defender ideology in the region.

The whole regime is beholden and at the mercy of what remains of Defender power in Nationstates. As a member of the FRA and a self-described defender region, it can't possibly seriously claim to represent "political independence".

I don't see the irony of it, personally. The moment Cormac accused this of being an anti-imperialist conference, at least two imperialist-affiliated regions "applied" to join, so there's obviously people here who wouldn't attend in good faith and would only want to troll the conference. Consequently, selectivity seems appropriate, especially when one of the people who applied for their region has just recently joked about TSP being "back on the market" for raiders.

The threats TSP has gotten from that sphere merely because our alliance with the UIAF ended are worrisome. I'm not entirely convinced GCR sovereignty is taken seriously by the people who now hold power in this game. So I'm interested in seeing what, if any, impact this conference would have. I do hope, if the Brotherhood of Malice attends, they do so with good faith and an eye towards agreeing that GCR sovereignty is important.

Funkadelia was elected in a competitive election. The region seems to like him well enough. Not sure how you're translating that into him having a "death grip" on the region.

I don't think anybody's under the illusion that you care at all about regional sovereignty, let alone GCR sovereignty. Honesty isn't the issue.

After consultations with the delegate, TSP will be attending this conference in order to advocate for the GCR Security Network we are beginning to work on. Whatever the outcome, we hope that the NS Gameplay community can all agree that GCR sovereignty is worth protecting.
