Hannah Fenton and Megan Flaherty take home gold in International Tennis

In the Double's Women's final of the Camwood Open, Fenton and Flaherty won a 5 set thriller, as they took the game, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4, to win the title. The Championship match was won on an ace at the end by Fenton, a 113 mph rocket that she launched that Komychova had absolutely no chance at touching. It was a brilliant moment to end a brilliant run by Fenton and Flaherty, who are now in great position to move up the World Rankings.

In the 1st and 2nd seconds, the play was even, as they were split 6-4 between both sides. Fenton and Flaherty did well, and they were matched by their counterparts however, as Fenton and Flaherty looked to win a tennis tournament for the Silverians. Neither team could break free, as it looked like any time a team would get a break, the other guys would come in with a big back hand, or even a diving effort like Komychova had to clinch a break point in the second set, or just even make a mistake like getting too excited and hitting the ball into the wall, or over-hitting it, or something. Neither pair could establish control in the early going, which lets fans know that this would be a long, grueling match.
5
In the 3rd set, Flaherty and Fenton took a more dominant tone. After being tied 3-3, they broke the game wide open, winning three straight to take a 6-3 win, and have 2 sets out of three. However, in international tennis, women do play 5 sets, not three, so they still had more to go. Fatigue showed in the fourth sets, as the girls had a 40-15 match point when they were ahead 6-5 twice, but they could not convert, allowing their opponents to come back and take a small lead, and eventually win, 7-6, to force a 5th and final do or die set agianst each other.

The last set was exciting women's tennis. The Silverians and their opponenets kept hitting the ball back and forth. IT would be hit, the ball would be returned, the women were playing equally. However, when they were down 3-4, Flaherty made a big play when she hit 3 consecutive aces on three consecutive serves, to give her side the momentum that they would never relinquish. They went on to score the next few points as well, as they won 6-4 after a brilliant backhand by Fenton to win the title. The crowd applauded as the players celebrated their victory on the court. They hoped that this would move them up in the standings, as Fenton said that "We showed that we can compete with anybody in tennis, and we will continue to fight for our nation, and to win!".

Silverian tennis has nowhere to go but up, and it looks like it will go up with this win. Hopefully, they can do more and pull off more victories as the tennis season goes on, to get Silverian tennis players not only into grand slams, but getting them deep into grand slams.

CITIZ OPEN
Bartewick, Civil Citizenry
Bartewick Central Academy

The Citiz Tennis Administration, the organizers of the International Tennis Association, welcome all participants and fans to the Bartewick Central Academy in Bartewick for the first grand slam in ITA history! The competition will feature all four events - men's singles and doubles, and women's singles and doubles - and each will be worth more, rankings-wise, than any other previous tournament.

The BCA is the largest tennis center in Civil Citizenry. Even so, the CTA approved temporary additions to the largest courts to support the expected flocks of fans from across the multiverse for the first grand slam. Court Major is the largest show court, seating 18,071 with additions. Wheaton Court, named after deceased Prince of Bartewick Jefferson Wheaton, seats 12,850. Besides those two show courts, there are fourteen other available courts, with seating ranging from 5,500 to 950.

Participants can find many top hotels in Bartewick to stay for the week. Fans may take in the splendid dual views of the Bay of Mork and the Modraine Sea, and visit the divine beaches that were made famous through hosting the second Beach Cup. Take a tour of the king's Grand Palace or the prince's Grand House Royale. All in all, there's a plethora of fun activities to do when not watching the tennis.

Every day, the CTA will announce which matches will be played on the show courts. All other matches will be sent to courts as they become available throughout the day.

Bartewick, Civil Citizenry

Thatian Tennis player Novak Dlouhý, his girlfriend Ana Holstić, and Coach Philip Köster pulled in the parking lot of the St. Vincentius Hotel, and gazed in awe of the grandeur and sheer size of the building. Two fountains stood in front of the lobby entrance, while children and guests stood next to them, looking at the colorful fish swimming in the fountains. All of the valets worked busily in order to accommodate all their arriving and departing guests, and one subsequently came up to the Thatian's taxi.

"Good evening." said the valet, "Welcome to the St. Vincentius. Would you like me to get your luggage for you?"

Novak and Ana stepped out from the back, and nodded, still in shock from the beauty of the hotel.

"Civil Citizenry has some nice hotels, I've heard." said Novak, 'And you were right Philip, this place looks like one of the best. Let's hope the service is great."

"Trust me," started Philip, "I've stayed here before, and it was top notch. The amenities are some of the best in the region, and just wait until you see the workout room and spa. Ana, I'm sure you'll enjoy it."

The trio entered the lobby with the valet, who pushed the baggage trolley stacked full of luggage. Ana and Novak looked around and stared at the splendidness of the hotel. The chandeliers were perfect crystal, the couches modern and new, and huge aquarium tanks surrounded the front desk. Novak and Ana headed for the reception to check in while Philip went to talk with the concierge about things to do in the city.

"Hello, we're checking in for our two rooms." Novak said.

"Your name sir?" asked the front desk clerk as he looked up from his computer screen.

"It should be under Dlouhý." replied Novak.

"I'm sorry? D-A-L-O-H-E?" said the clerk, trying to spell out the words.

Ana giggled and Novak smiled. "No sir, it's spelled D-L-O-U-H-Y."

"Ah, my mistake. Here we go. Rooms 204 and 205 are in your name. One is the Veranda Suite while the other is a normal room. Would you like the valet to take your bags up to your rooms while we finish the process of paying and getting your keys?"

Novak nodded and the valet took the bags up the elevator to their room.

"Well, well. Look who it is." said a voice familiar to Novak.

Spinning around, Novak saw Bradley Karajavic and his new coach Darko Madjarovski approach the front desk, both of them carrying their bags and tennis racquets.

"Good to see ya, Brad." said Novak.

The two shook hands while Ana was introduced to the other two Thatians.

"So you're staying here as well?" asked Bradley.

"Of course. We heard great reviews, and it's not too far from the Bartewick Central Academy. About a five minute drive I heard. Did you know that the tournament officials have gotten us a shuttle service to the tournament grounds? I'm glad we don't have to hire some deranged taxi driver."

Bradley laughed, and said: "Do you know where everyone else is staying? Pretty much everyone booked with the Thatian Tennis Federation, and they are all staying together."

"Really?" said Novak, raising his eyebrows in surprise.

"Yep. Vittoria, Adrienne, Andrea, Madeline, Todd, Bryan, Olivia, Sabine, Filip, and Theron are all staying at the Keread Garden Hotel on the beach. For some reason it's now a 'team' thing for them, and I guess it's to feel like we are all teammates? Something to do with the Olympics, I have no idea."

"Interesting. Well, I bet the federation is paying for the hotel anyways. But why isn't Maddie staying with you? You guys are siblings, but you're not staying together?" Novak questioned.

"Maddie and I were not in the mood to speak to each other this past week. We've been awfully close these past few months since we've started going to the same tournaments, and I think we need a break from each other. Besides, she and Vittoria are becoming best friends. Good for her, and I don't really care to be around a nagging younger sister twenty-four-seven."

"Alright, well it was great seeing you Brad. Good luck at the tournament, haha. We won't be on the same side of the draw, but maybe we'll see each other in the final. "

"See you later man." replied Bradley.

With that, Novak, Ana, and Philip headed upstairs to find their rooms while Bradley and Darko continued checking-in.

3 Days Later...

"Who am I playing?" Theron Odijius asked his coach.

"Alfred Hamilton of Civil Citizenry." his coach replied.

"Dang it!" shouted Theron. "A guy from Citiz who has home court advantage. I barely made it through my last match with my nagging ankle, and this seems like it's going to be a fight."

"Calm down Theron." said his coach. "You had your opponent in three easy sets last time, and Hamilton had to fight a hard five-setter. He'll be tired, and you have a slight injury, so let's continue icing down and stretching."

"Sorry," Theron whispered. "It's just, it's been stressful. Food poisoning on the first day, and now my ankle is acting up."

"I know, I know. Just keep your eyes ahead of you and focus on winning against Hamilton. I watched him play yesterday against Lucas Lou, and I think his main weakness is his backhand. Keep up in the rallies and go for your shots against his backhand. He'll have no chance to defend, and you can sneak into the net. Got it?"

"Yeah, that won't be bad. Who do I face if I beat Hamilton?"

His coach looked at him sternly. "You know you shouldn't think that far. But if you want to know, Novak would be your opponent in the next round."

Theron looked up as he finished taping his ankle. "Really? Novak? Wow, the competition is fierce in this tournament. They don't call it a Grand Slam for nothing. And why did he and Bradley not stay with us and the rest of the team here at the Keread? Do they feel like they are better than the rest of us?"

"Of course not. But I think they had their personal reasons, like Novak's girlfriend would like to be away from the whole team."

"They could have had a room to themselves. But whatever, he can do whatever he pleases. So what's happened in the rest of the tournament? Upsets galore?" asked Theron as he started taping his fingers.

"Well it's only natural. Let's see who is out," said his coach as he turned on his computer and went to the tournament website. "Ah, so far Karajavic is out. He lost big to Daniel Wymark of Chenkorya. Only a four setter. What a shame, as he is #4 in the world."

"Go on. Who else?"

His coach continued: "#13 Filip Compagini is out to Luc Ingebretsen. A very embarrassing donut for the final set. I was told that he had lost his cool several times during the match, and was penalized for racquet abuse. He does come from the Italian side of Thatius, so are you really surprised?"

Theron smiled, then looked down to see his phone was vibrating, as he had just gotten a text from Novak.

"Theron, You are on in 30 minutes against Hamilton. -Nov"

"Uhh coach. What time is the match? I know it's a day session, but what time am I supposed to be on?"

"About 4.45. Why?"

Theron glared. "It's 4.15. We have to go. NOW!" he shouted.

The two packed up their gear as fast as possible, then ran out the door. Theron's phone rang, and it was the tournament director.

"Theron, you are required on Court Major in less than half an hour. Will you be here on time or do we have to delay and penalize you?"

"No sir," he replied. "On my way now, the shuttle is taking me as we speak. See you in five minutes."

Quickly, Theron and his coach called for a taxi cab and shoved their bags in the trunk. The taxi driver hopped in while Theron and his coach jumped in the back. The taxi driver knew it was urgent, so he asked where they wanted to go immediately, and Theron replied:

"Bartewick Central Academy. Now. As fast as you can, we'll pay you double."

TENNISZINE
Excitement Abounds at the Biggest Event in Tennis

Top Five Matches of the Citiz Open

5. (6) Deanna Emmett d. Gretchen Heidenheim 7-5 2-6 6-2 2-6 7-5

It was a pretty late day three on Court Major. Top seeded female Charlotte Beauford was tested in five sets before pulling out the win, while tournament organizers correctly predicted a tight match between Ivan Crush and Pierre L'Enfant that saw the famous Bergnovinaian come from a two-set deficit only to be denied a round of sixteen berth. But the day session was not over, with sixth seeded Emmett matched up with another pesky Bergnovinaian, Heidenheim. The two finesse-oriented players wore each other out in the first set. Emmett was able to take the early advantage, but at a price: she was forced to give up hope of going up two sets rather early in the second, when she quickly found herself down two breaks. The same scenario repeated itself for two more sets, until the two evenly-matched players found themselves knotted up at two sets each. A back and forth final set, with both clearly tiring, came to 5-5, at which point Emmett's late-match experience won out. She broke Heidenheim on a forehand winner off a 79 mph save, and held on for the victory.

4. Camelia Tarrova d. (16) Andrea Savic 6-4 2-6 6-3 4-6 7-5

These two unknown women showed up on Court 5 with a sparse crowd waiting for them. Savic, being a Thatian, has earned respect throughout the tennis community - but who was this Tarrova girl? It didn't look like much of a match in the making. That's why it wasn't until late in the fourth set, when Savic was on her way to scraping into a rubber set, that the stands really began to fill. The fifth set saw one break each; Tarrova's was decidedly more crucial, saving the match at 4-5. From there, she had all the momentum, and some of her power was still in the gas tank to catapult her to the third round.

3. (1) Stanley Charles d. John Newton 6-1 4-6 6-1 2-6 8-6

For someone who's number one in the world by a good margin, you might not expect much of a test as early as the second round. But Stanley Charles found himself in that position against unknown John Newton. Charles seemed to be coasting after a dominant first set that saw him lose just seven points. Then he seemed to lose his focus just a bit, and that was enough for Newton to get the one key break for a set. No one believed Newton would mount much of a fight, let alone take a whole set. As if like a light switch, the first two sets repeated themselves - except Newton's second winning set was definitively stronger. Charles looked listless and unfocused the entire set; not even a medical timeout for his ankle could settle his mind. Raw talent became the difference in the fifth: Newton was on top of his game, playing the best tennis of his life, but he was matched against a man who just had too much weaponry in his arsenal. Quite the scare for Charles, whose lackadaisical play does not foreshadow anything positive moving forward.

2. Pierre L'Enfant d. (14) Ivan Crush 7-6 7-5 2-6 5-7 7-5

If you haven't heard of Ivan Crush, you haven't caught up on your tennis history. You can, however, be forgiven for not hearing of Saugeais Pierre L'Enfant. Therefore, it seemed a little odd to find this match on the Court Major card on day two. The wizards in the front office made a spot-on choice, though, as the pair contested a 4:45 epic. Mere points became the difference in L'Enfant capturing the first two sets. Big-serving Crush was fired up at his deficit, and that gave him the momentum to pull off a 6-2 third set. But the pesky L'Enfant just never went away - even when Crush pushed hard to win the fourth and equalize the match. The crowd was on the Bergnovinaian's side - odd to hear, we know - knowing they were witnessing something amazing: a two-sets-to-love comeback. Crush had been broken just once all match - a critical game in the second that cost him the set. By the fifth, with L'Enfant tiring, Crush was smashing aces left and right, totaling nearly forty for the entire contest, and it seemed he had the match in tow. Unfortunately, he needed a break himself to win, and that was something he could not handle. L'Enfant hung in there, devoting his effort to his serving games, and it paid off. Crush eventually ran out of steam, and L'Enfant capitalized, securing a break to win the match, 7-5 in the fifth.

1. (5) Tate Birch d. Thomas Jamison 3-6 6-1 3-6 6-3 9-7

This match could not have been a more perfect way to top off the first day of grand slam play. The top-ranked Citiz was challenged mightily by Cosumar's Jamison; the fact that he's from Cosumar gave everyone an idea of what was to come. Birch came out slow, a little deflated and seemingly not warmed up yet. Jamison took advantage and worked hard to have a relatively comfortable first set margin. Unfortunately for him, the energy he expended sped up a twenty-five minute second set in Birch's favor. By then, the crowd was somewhat silent, seeing little in the way of outstanding tennis. By the time Jamison pulled away in the third, though, the fans got into the match more, putting their weight behind Birch, who despite his higher ranking was suddenly the underdog. Birch responded favorably, going up 4-0 in the fourth and utilizing the energy of the fans to his benefit. Nothing that happened beforehand, though, could compare to the spectacular fifth set that was to come. Lasting an hour and twenty minutes on its own, it was the best tennis all tournament. Both players found a second wind (or third, or fourth) and pounded the ball with more vigor than at any other point in the match. There were some breaks scattered across the set, but once it reached 5-5 it was just a bunch of holds. Not until 7-7, with most of the stands still full despite the 2:23 AM time, was there any break - and it went to Birch. The crowd went ballistic, and it was barely able to contain itself for the duration of the final game's five points that gave the tough first-round victory to Birch.

Looking back on the Citiz Open

Players and organizers alike of the International Tennis Association (ITA) just finished up the first Grand Slam of the tennis season at the Citiz Open in Bartewick, Civil Citizenry. With a total of 192 entrants, the Citiz Open became one of the largest tennis events in the history of the ITA. Organizers effectively managed to squeeze in every scheduled match, and did not have any delays. With perfect weather, the Citiz Open had smooth sailing from the beginning. But how did the players of Thatius manage in the year's first Grand Slam? Well, some had terrible performances, others were mediocre, and one lucky one entrant made the final.

Men's Singles & Doubles

Bradley Karajavic / Theron Odijius
1R: def. Mikhail Rakov/Tretyat Rakov (NPR) 6-1, 6-3, 4-6, 1-6, 6-3
2R: l. [1] Sealey Armstrong/Edison Bancroft (CVC) 3-6, 6-3, 2-6, 1-6

Since the two began playing in the ITA in singles, Bradley and Theron also paired up together to form a doubles team to compete in the many international and domestic tournaments. Previously, they had mixed results in past tournaments, but so far are ranked twelfth in the world. In the first round they faced the Rakov siblings, Mikhail and Tretyat. The two had an affinity for the net, and would use every short ball to approach the net as a team. It was kind of like they had a string attached to each other, as the brothers would move up and down the court at the same exact time. Bradley and Theron didn’t have trouble with them in the first two sets, but seemingly grew too overconfident with their playing habits, and were crushed in the next two sets. The bucket of water splashed on them when they lost the fourth set 1-6, and the blindfolds came off. Losing in the first round isn’t pretty, and it was something that neither of the veteran players from Thatius wanted to do. With that, Bradley stepped up his serving game, and did what he does best: ace. He racked up a total of eight aces in the final set, securing two love games for he and Theron to hold. And one break from the Rakovs, and it was game, set, and match. Sadly, the Thatians missed it when it came to seeding pairs. Together they were unseeded, and were unfortunately randomly placed in the same area as the number one seeds from Civil Citizenry. The Citiz players Sealey Armstrong and Edison Bancroft had the Thatians number right from the start and Bradley and Theron played, well, embarrassing tennis. A total of forty unforced errors combined in the final two sets. After a swing and a miss, the Thatians were sent packing from the doubles competition.

[2] Todd Dolko / Bryan Lukantos
1R: def. Vertán Arana Soliz/Gáspár Ozséb (CKY) 1-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4
2R: l. Sean McCollum/Christian Ponder (SAU) 3-6, 6-0, 7-5, 6-7, 3-6

These two guys are veterans. They have served their tours on the domestic level at home in Thatius, and now are competing in their second season with the ITA. After winning the Yannis Nasenko Trophy, the top-ranked doubles pair from Thatius became the new number two. A nice bonus to all that hard work that went into winning the tournament in Polar Islandstates. With the Citiz Open, Bryan and Todd seemed poised to take over the number one men’s doubles spot, and become the most famous Thatian doubles players. Conversely, they fell in the second round to Sean McCollum and Christian Ponder of Saugeais. After a very tough first round match, the veterans from Thatius were exhausted. And then the next day they had to play again really early in the morning, with the match again going the distance. It’s unfortunate scheduling, but Todd and Bryan will need to make it a priority to become more fit. They are used to play three-set matches in their career, but they just found out the importance of fitness in tennis.

[4] Bradley Karajavic
1R: l. Daniel Wymark (CKY) 5-7, 6-2, 2-6, 6-7

Passion. Emotion. Drive. Everything that a champion thrives on, or at least, used to thrive on. Bradley Karajavic was the winner in men’s singles for the Yannis Nasenko Trophy in Polar Islandstates, and looked to be making the biggest move in his career. He jumped up to number four in the world, only behind three really great players. Now seemed like the ripe moment to grab the title as top-ranked Thatian from Novak Dlouhý, who has been Thatian number one for over the past year. But when Bradley falls, he falls hard. His first round match against Daniel Wymark of Chenkorya had to be one of the most embarrassing matches of the entire tournament. Not only did Bradley fail to display any passion or drive to be on the court, he also looked like a robot playing tennis. His expression was cold and foreboding. His actions seemed mechanical and machinelike, just hitting the ball back over the net, rarely with much power. The only reason he stayed in the entire match at all was because Daniel made so many unforced errors, and Bradley used his big kick serve to his advantage. Other than that, Daniel took every opportunity of a short ball or a slow rally to strike. Time after time he would punish every weak shot of Bradley’s, who in return had no response to what was going on. What planet was Bradley on that day?

[13] Filip Compagini
1R: l. Luc Ingebretsen (PIS) 1-6, 7-6, 6-3, 6-7, 0-6

Filip, where have you been man? We’ve been waiting for your leap into the top of the rankings for about the past year or so. For the longest time Filip has hovered in the Top 20 of the rankings, never making it past number 10. Grand Slam time is the best time to rack up the points to improve your overall ranking, but Filip did not seem to get the message. In the final set of the match, Filip lost his cool. He verbally insulted the referee using Italian slang, but the umpire was still able to understand what he said, and gave Filip a warning for the first offensive. But he continued with his tirade, and that warning then turned into an automatic point for his opponent. Then it turned ugly. Filip smashed two of his racquets to the ground after losing two very big points, each break points against him, in the final set. Another two points to Luc for racquet abuse. Now the local Thatian media has been calling for Filip’s removal from the ITA, but the Thatian Tennis Federation has decided to let him be, and have now warned him that further behavior like that will give him a suspension from representing Thatius in the ITA.

[11] Theron Odijius
1R: def. Nathan Burton (GNI) 6-1, 6-3, 6-2
2R: def. Brovak Kretsnikov (NPR) 6-3, 6-3, 7-6
3R: l. [6] Alfred Hamilton (CVC) 6-3, 3-6, 2-6, 2-6

From the start, Theron looked more than solid. He looked great, actually. Originally it seemed like destiny would pit him against fellow countryman, Novak Dlouhý, in the quarterfinals of the Citiz Open, but along came Alfred Hamilton, who devoured Theron for lunch. It could have been the time for Theron to re-claim his position as the number one Thatian, a title that he used to carry for over two years until Novak came along to win the Internazionali Open. Starting out, Theron easily defeated Nathan Burton of Gandham Islands and Brovak Kretsnikov. It seemed almost too easy with Theron hitting winners every other point. He seemed to favor the backhand up the line, sneaking right past his opponent’s racquet. Eventually it became time for the third round. Alfred proved to be a tough opponent with his solid overall game that allowed him to quickly transition from the net to the baseline, and vice versa. On match point, Hamilton seized up victory and a quarterfinals berth after a long rally that ended when Hamilton crushed the ball to Theron’s forehand side, and Theron barely managed to get his racquet on it. However, the ball still went over the other side of the net, but it became perfect for an overhead, which Alfred quickly produced.

[2] Novak Dlouhý
1R: def. Kalin Yorgov (VAN) 6-4, 6-7, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4
2R: def. Jean DelaRiviere (SVC) 6-4, 6-2, 6-2
3R: def. Peter Fule (BER) 5-7, 6-3, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4
QF: l. [6] Alfred Hamilton (CVC) 4-6, 3-6, 3-6

Staying for six nights at the St. Vincentius Hotel in Bartewick, Civil Citizenry is not only expensive; it has the ability to drain pockets from the rich. But Novak lives the good life in complete luxury, and with his tournament prize money coupled with the numerous sponsorships he can afford such extravagance. A very hot girlfriend as well makes life more enjoyable. But only one thing eluded the Thatian number one: A Grand Slam Title, or even a title from the ITA tournament series in general. Certainly, Novak might have eventually won the Citiz Open, but one player bested him: Alfred Hamilton of Civil Citizenry. This guy eventually won the entire tournament, and had the crowd on his side almost every point. But that’s not excuse for Novak, who didn’t manage to take a set off Hamilton. Novak played average. Not too many extraordinary points, rather just plain tennis and rallies. However, Hamilton played out-of-this-world tennis. This guy deserved to win the tournament and beat Novak with the style of play. Not only were the winners incredible, they were filling up the top plays of the entire tournament. The rallies lasted sometimes over forty shots, yet Hamilton found it in the tank to pull it through. He also faced only three break points by Novak, but broke the Thatian too often. Even with a nice run to the quarterfinals, Novak lost his treasured second number two ranking. He falls to number three, just barely. Hopefully in the future he will continue training hard and make a bigger run at the next couple Grand Slams.

Women's Singles & Doubles

Adrienne Kotomic / Andrea Savic
1R: l. Brenda Lowe/Chris Williams (BEL) 6-7, 6-1, 6-2, 4-6, 5-7

“We suck at doubles.” – Adrienne Kotomic after her doubles loss.
Sadly, that’s not a real quote from her. But it should have been said after her loss with Andrea Savic in the first round against Brenda Lowe and Chris Williams of Beldonia. Communication clearly was out of order on the Thatian side, as Andrea would frequently approach the net and have a ball lobed over her head, and at the same not knowing where to go, as Adrienne failed to yell “Switch!” or say “Left!” in order to indicate what side she was going to. In the end of it all, the Beldonians used the extra space to hit clean winners, which caused a big deficit in the final two sets. Time after time the Thatians tried to talk to each other about strategy, but these two need to figure out what to do as a doubles pair, and by the looks of it, they had barely practiced with each other in the time leading up to the Citiz Open. Too much singles work, we hear.

[8] Sabine Maranti / Olivia Pulab
1R: def. Rachel Smith/Madison Young (CAM) 6-3, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3
2R: def. Ghislain Canain/Andrea Tournbeault (SVC) 7-5, 6-3, 6-4
3R: l. [7] Mildrid Felton/Primrose Rushford (CVC) 6-1, 4-6, 3-6, 5-7

Sabine and Olivia are generally unheralded in Thatian tennis. Yet, they are the top ranked doubles pair, hailing from the city of Novano. The two have practiced with each other ever since they were kids, and now have started playing professional tennis in the ITA. Their results have also been great, but nothing special. No tournament wins or semi-final appearances, rather consistent and occasional deep runs. They did it again at the Citiz Open, making it to the third round, only to lose to the seventh seeded pair from Civil Citizenry. Overall solid are the best words to describe the two women from Thatius, as they have relatively few weaknesses, but quite a few strengths. Sabine’s excellent serve combined with Olivia’s dominance at the net provide an exciting blend, and has been enough to give them results. The next thing on their minds, however, is winning a tournament. For too long has the Thatian media ignored them, as they are overshadowed by the likes of Vittoria Lambadorey, Ginerva Stallone, and Madelin Karajavic. With many future tournaments coming up, Sabine and Olivia have plenty of time to step into the limelight.

[9] Madelin Karajavic
1R: l. Jennifer Renstaldt (NPR) 2-6, 6-7, 2-6

Like brother like sister. Is that the phrase? Well, if it’s not, it is now. Madelin also had one of the most lackluster performances of her life, just like her older brother, Bradley. But Madelin actually was on the planet for her match, yet was outplayed in almost every single way. Everything Madelin tried, failed. Sorry, it’s blunt, but true. Slowing down the pace turned against her, and Jennifer used that to crush the ball. Speeding up the pace and going for her shots back-fired against Madelin, as the unforced error count continued to stack up. What else? Serves became double faults, volleys went into the net, and rallies ended within a few shots. Overall, a very poor first round performance from Madelin, who should have easily had this match in at least a five-setter, if not four. Maybe she and Bradley need to re-evaluate their strategies and get their acts together, because clearly, the Karajavics are having problems right now.

[16] Andrea Savic
1R: l. Camelia Tarrova (VAN) 4-6, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, 5-7

Who is the most overrated player from Thatius? Probably Andrea Savic. As a junior, she had talent, and frequently bested her opponents in the local events. She busted through the international tennis scene by storming her way to the semi-finals of the Internazionali Open, and therefore placed herself within the elite players of tennis. But her results after that have been very poor. She lost at the Lyngaard Park Open in Polar Islandstates to Emilie Burgundy, and now has lost to Camelia Tarrova in the first round of the Citiz Open. As the last seeded player, Andrea had the chance to face someone unseeded in her first round match. Well, she squandered any opportunity of making it to the next round while playing in the final set. Serving at 5-4, 30-Love, Andrea was nearing the finish line in this exhaustive match. She could almost taste the next round. But something in Camelia stirred, and Andrea lost the next four straight points, and Camelia tied it up at 5-5. The next two games flew by so fast, and Andrea found herself shaking hands at the net. What happened to this young woman, the promising star of Thatius? It seemed like she lost her mental state and didn’t think through her points. Andrea is known for her intelligence and finding her opponent’s weaknesses, but it looked like she had a real lapse of judgment in her first round match that eventually resulted in a loss.

[8] Vittoria Lambadorey
1R: def. Jillian Macks (BEL) 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, 7-5
2R: def. Denise Benavente (TNA) 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3
3R: l. Adrienne Kotomic (THA) 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 1-6, 4-6

Living up to expectations can be hard. From the day she debuted in the ITA, Vittoria has been thought as the best Thatian player in the women’s field, besides Ginerva Stallone, who recently retired from professional tennis. It seems like the pressure has grown worse on Vittoria, who has had a slump in recent months, going from the top three in the world to now number nine. Her third round loss to Adrienne Kotomic not only stunned her, but the entire nation. Vittoria didn’t look bad; she just didn’t find that last energy to break her fellow countrywoman in the third round. We see it as over-coaching and practicing way too long. You can do that? Oh, yes. Vittoria is rumored to have a new coach, after her former one, Paul Ciccione, was fired a few weeks ago. And now it looks like Vittoria shows up exhausted to every single one of her matches. The solution? Get more sleep. Seriously. Waking up early for practice all day plus traveling the world becomes tiring. She needs to stop and take a deep breath. With over a month left with the tournament series, Vittoria still has time to show her true colors, but the level of effort it will take will be enormous. She’ll need to overcome her fitness as well as any weaknesses in her game.

Adrienne Kotomic
1R: def. Cassie Hublar (MAN) 7-6, 6-3, 7-6
2R: def. Nerea Gochikoa (ASG) 6-4, 2-6, 6-0, 1-6, 6-3
3R: def. [8] Vittoria Lambadorey (THA) 3-6, 7-5, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4
QF: def. [3] Nicole Williams (BER) 2-6, 7-6, 6-3, 0-6, 6-2
SF: def. [1] Charlotte Beauford (COS) 2-6, 7-6, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2
F: l. [4] Cassandra Christianson (COS) 7-6, 4-6, 1-6, 6-4, 1-6

First of all, congratulations are in order for Adrienne, as she showed the Thatian Tennis Federation what tennis is all about: playing with your heart and not giving up. No one expected her to make a run at all, nonetheless a run to the finals. She was supposed to lose to Vittoria in the third round, but ended up winning in five. Then she was supposed to lose to third-seeded Nicole Williams of Bergnovinaia. Didn’t happen. O.k., how about the number one seed, Charlotte Beauford of Cosumar? Nope, that one went to a five set victory for her as well. And then that is when she reached the coveted final. The ultimate chance to prove to the Federation that she wasn’t the worst women’s player from Thatius partaking in the ITA, but one of the best, if not the best. Adrienne and Cassandra duked it out in the beginning of the first set, holding their own serves and forcing the set into a tiebreak. It eventually became one of the longest tiebreaks in the tournament, going Adrienne’s way 15-13, after she cleared the line with an excellent forehand winner. The next two sets fell in Cassandra’s favor, as Adrienne completely fell apart when she came to the net. Her best strength lies in her volleys, but Cassandra crafted points so that she could pass Adrienne whenever she approached. The final set was the worst for Adrienne, when Cassandra found Adrienne’s weakness: fitness. Adrienne had played five matches earlier, and four of them had gone to five sets. Clearly, she was tired, and now going on her fifth fifth set. All props to Cassandra though, as she played a clean, and almost perfect match to win her first Grand Slam. We certainly won’t have Adrienne going anywhere in the next few years, as she has shown she has tennis to play.

Analfi Stillwater Classic

Image

Welcome to the Analfi Stillwater Classic, one of the Men's Challenger Tournaments of the International Tennis Association! The tournament is hosted by the Stillwater Indoor Tennis Academy, the largest indoor facility in Thatius.

Stillwater is a medium-sized city located in the northern province of Thatius, and contains a population of 325,000. This city has produced many of the great Thatian tennis legends, as well as quite a few famous Olympians and star soccer players. While not playing tennis, players have the chance to experience the life and culture of Stillwater. The city is known for having some of the best food in Thatius, and visitors are encouraged to try the buffalo leg soup. Other delectable dishes include the plain horse entree, grilled beef crushed with blueberries, and potato cookies. Try a bite, and if you don't like it, try not to let the restaurant owners see, since people take pride in their cookings here in Stillwater. For local activities, citizens of Stillwater take trips to the ski resorts, which are approximately an hour's drive from the city. While tourism is not currently popular, those who do come like to travel to the nearby ranches, and find out what a farmer's life is really like. They give visitors the ability to ride horses, lasso a bull, and pick berries from the fields.

The Indoor Academy was founded by Thatian Tennis legend, Marius Zenadjic, and currently enrolls over one hundred juniors who have hopes on becoming the next great star. Court Rostic (shown above) serves as the main show court, and boasts a seating capacity of 18,700. Court Irinokov holds 9,900, Court Berankis holds 9,000, while Court Sunspur seats 4,600.

Churchma ITA S1 Coverage
Jeff Collinsworth and Kyle Boulay

Analfi Stillwater Classic
JC: Welcome back to the Gator Sports Report, where Kyle Boulay, and myself, Jeff Collinsworth, are here today to discuss the upcoming Analfi Stillwater Classic- a Men's Challenger Tournament- to be played in Thatius over the next few days.

KB: Churchma has four of its men's tennis stars leaving the Republic for the week, and traveling to Thatius to play against other top tennis stars from around the world. Erik Dahm and Lonnie McKell are entering the Men's Singles Bracket while Benny Brazil and Dion Brazil will team up for Churchma in the Men's Doubles Bracket.

JC: Dahm will be matched up with Rodney Kane of the Gandham Islands, who is 1-1 through two matches this season. Dahm is 0-1 and looking to make some serious noise in this tournament. After talking with national coach, Ivan Brahimovic, it appears as if Dahm has dramatically changed his workout schedule since his first loss earlier this season. Dahm has been reported to cut five pounds from his already slim build and is going to be quicker than he was before.

KB: It's a good thing he did, because Dahm looked beyond out of shape after his first match this year. Through two sets I thought he was going to pass out, and I'm surprised he even lasted through the third set. So it's great to hear that he is getting back into shape. On the opposite side of the bracket from Dahm is Lonnie McKell, who is also 0-1 this season. McKell will be facing Adrian Wiklander of the Polar Islandstates. Wiklander is also 0-1 in Season One play.

JC: McKell has the advantage in this one, as he has the endurance advantage over Wiklander. Wiklander has been reported to have caught the flu within the last week, and it's questionable as to whether or not he will be ready to go for his Round of 32 match against McKell. McKell is looking to use his beautiful backhand as often as possible to knock off Wiklander and advance to the Round of 16.

KB: The Brazil brothers- Dion and Benny- have a decent challenge facing them, as they look to face Martin Dechev and Christian Vankov of Vantelira. The Vantelira duo has a 2-4 record this season and is currently the 27th ranked Men's Double team in the world. The Brazil brothers are currently 0-1 this year.

JC: From watching their last match, it is no question that the Brazil brothers just need to be on the same page. If they can become a cohesive group and work together, they are a force to be wreckoned with. Dion has the powerful serve, while Benny can volley back and forth for ages. If these two can play together, look for them to do some damaage. All in all, I think each of the Churchmanian competitors have a great chance of advancing to the Round of 16.
CHAMPIONS- Baptism of Iron 6, Cup of Harmony 45, Two ITA Titles
RUNNER UPS- World Lacrosse Championships 10, Saugeais Baseball Tournament
THIRD PLACE- NSCF 1
SEMIFINALS- World Softball Classic 1, World Baseball Classic 19
QUARTERFINALS- NS Arena Bowl 0, NSAB 1, NSCF 2
FOUNDER- Nation States College Football (NSCF)

Trevor Arnold Outlook
By: Zachary Kyler
Tennis Magazine

Trevor Arnold was supposed to be the face of Camian tennis coming into the ITA season. A rare twist of scoring and points make the Analfi Stillwater Classic his first ITA tournament this season. Arnold was too good for the ABK challenger at the start of the season. Then, other players started to pass him and he didn't qualify for the Citiz Open.

The Analfi Stillwater Classic is Trevor's chance to bouce back. He is extremely talented and well rounded. His strokes are as accurate as ever. Coming off of the 1-1 performannce at the olympics has Trevor Arnold as hungry as ever. His first round opponet will be tough. His name is Mantizo Mendoza and he hails from Astograth, a great sporting nation of Rushmore.

A championship run in this tournament will make Arnold elgible for the Grand Slam coming up in the week after next. with a title Trevor Arnold will begin his quest to deserved greatness.

I must apologize for not posting any updates about the W4W International. I have only just been able to get on a computer after a challenging, busy week - I hope you all can understand given the time of year. However, looking at the calendar there is no women's tournament scheduled for the week beginning on Monday; therefore, the tournament will be held next week as opposed to this one.

Ballyfeeaknock Open

The Ballyfeeaknock Open marks the first foray into hosting an international sporting tournament for the fledging nation of Ancharmunn. Having taken the reigns from the Beningrad Open when Sorthern Northland was obliterated the Ballyfeeaknock Open retains as much of the Sorthern team responsible for organising that that managed to escape and seek refuge in Rushmore.

The tournament will take place at the newly built Kumquat Grove Tennis Club. Funded largely by Maelíosa Nic Rhaith (quite how the multi-talented darling of Sorthern and now Charmunnry sport has managed to finance this when having lost her only professional match remains a mystery, but she has), Kumquat Grove is a state of a the art facility (naturally). Of the eight clay courts the two main ones, Marumi Court (the main court) and Nagami Court can both be covered from the elements, a feature that should prove quite useful in Ancharmunn's wet climate. Kumquats grow in abundance throughout the club and may be freely picked and enjoyed by spectators and participants. You didn't think we gave it that name just because some Paripanans told us to did you?

As the capital of Ancharmunn Ballyfeeaknock enjoys comprehensive transport links and for international visitors is served by both ferry and airports. A three line subway systems offers cheap but at times unreliable transport through the city, whilst for those looking to head further afield the city is served by the hub of the nation's rail network. Though the railways are utter rubbish in the nation (only an express service to Drayfill née Drefhil, capital of neighbouring Aels, is considered remotely reliable). If you must insist on going out of the city the national bus service or hire cars are a better bet.

The city enjoys a vibrant cultural scene, with what is reckoned to be some of the best nightlife, the finest galleries, the most interesting museums, the tastiest kumquats blah de blah this side of the Obsidian Sea. We're to the south-east of Ossidiacqua by the way, or we will be once the map is updated.

A few bits of advice for the duration of your stay in Ancharmunn might be useful as well. Try and pack an Irish dictionary, whilst the vast majority speak English as a first language, offering a tongue in cheek insult in Irish is a grand icebreaker here. Also pack a Welsh dictionary, offering an insult in Welsh might not go down well with our neighbours, but it'll raise a smile from us. If strange men in the countryside offer you a strange smelling clear liquid, it's best to politely accept it but attempt to discreetly replace it with water before drinking it, it's poitín and it's very very strong and has a rather acquired taste. Another acquired taste is Vidaak, the national drink of Ancharmunn and Aels. Do not buy this as a souvenir to take home, it might seem a good idea but it really isn't. Finally please don't feed the Ossidiacquans.

With all that out the way we can get on with the draw. Having left this until rather late in the week we'll need to rush through the tournament. Friday, Saturday and Sunday will see two singles rounds scorinated from Friday to Sunday, with the final being on Monday. The doubles tournament will be scored two rounds a day on Friday and Saturday with the semi-finals held on Sunday and the final on Monday. All scorinations will take place in the western European evening.

Pair rise to top quickly

Elliot Sprecher may have been known better for his singles play back in Darmen, but after joning forces with John Hoogiland, the pair has quickly risen to the top of the rankings in ITA Double's Play. The pair is currently ranked second in the latest ITA rankings, sitting behind Sealey Armstrong and Edison Bancroft both of Civil Citizenry.

Sprecher and Hoogiland made their first appearence at this years summer Olympics in Lasft, where they advanced to the third round, losing to Nikolaj Dino and Ivo Kurata of Savski Venac. Despite the limited success at the Olympics and in Darmen's home series, the pair never expected to become some of the best in the world.

Sprecher and Hoogiland first reached stardom after the Finals of the Swift Open, when they lost to Ramon Ferrer and Ekaitz Loyola of Sorthern Northland, losing in three straight sets, 5-7, 3-6, 4-6. Immeadiately tennis fans all over Darmen began to follow the pair, and Sprechers following on SpaceFace grew from 10,000 fans to almost 450,000. Sprecher and Hoogiland continued their great play at the Yannis Nasenko Trophy, advancing all the way to the Semifinals before losing to Selleze Amute and Edetal Baniped of Civil Citizenry.

But the major breakthrough for the young pair came at the Rumiatzi Open, where Sprecher and Hoogiland advanced all the way to the Finals, defeating Armstrong and Bancroft in three straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, 6-1. The pair's coach, Francis Thompson wasn't suprised that the pair won the way they did. "They've got heart, they really wan't to win. When they lose, it's almost as if part of them dies. They can't stand it. After the first set, some doubts were starting to creep into my mind about wether they could win or not. I expressed these doubts to them, and it seemed to give them a certain kind of spark that helped them win the final two sets and ultimately the match and the title."

However, in a rematch at the Citiz Open, Armstrong and Bancroft defeated Specher and Hoogiland, 4-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3, 7-5. Through the first two sets it looked as though the match was well in hand and that Sprecher and Hoogiland would advance to the Finals. But Armstrong and Bancroft quickly regained control, and went on to win the Citiz Open against Carl Bole and Donald Yewen of Bergnovinaia.

Now the pair is competing very well at the Ballyfeeaknock Open. In the first round the pair defeated Alex Davidson and Mason Thompson in three straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, 6-1. Next the pair defeated Martijn Dokken and Niko Malenkov of Polar Islandstates, 6-2, 6-0, 0-6, 6-2. Despite a very rough third set, the pair dominated quite well in the other three sets. The pair will now move on to the quarterfinals, there opponent is of yet still unknown.
