Amber’s Space

Good morning, Cassadaigua, and all the international readers out there. Well, it’s that time again; time to crown a champion in basketball. It is said in other media outlets that this is the title that eludes us, given that Cassadaigua has won world titles in soccer (two world Cups), baseball (three WBC’s), and a single World Bowl and World Cup of Hockey championship. That is a description of us here that we do not prescribe too as the nation views our NSCAA title with Grande Mountain University has having attained a major basketball title as well. However, we have never won this, though we have been close many times. Those close calls see us as the #3-ranked team in the world, which is nice and all, but when there’s no title attached to that, it’s not as good as it could be.

The International Basketball Championships has grown to be a successful tournament, and given that this sport is my one true passion, I couldn’t be any happier with that. It has become the stomping ground of Sarzonia, of whom has won this title three times and seem to always be a finalist even when they aren’t winning the thing. Sibirsky too will be strong, and Qazox, despite what they might tell you about their roster, will be potent as well. If the story ended there, we’d have ourselves a pretty good tournament but when you add in some major up-and-coming nations on the hardwood, such as Civil Citizenry and Carasatoga with annual contenders Valladares and Andossa se Mitrin Vega and Delaclava; sprinkled in with some nations who are looking to experience similar success in basketball as they have in other sports, plus some aspiring first timers, and it’s going to be an awesome tournament. And that means that just because there is a number three next to our nation’s name, that we still have to work our asses off night after night the way everyone else does, or we may not even get to Mytannion. After all, that ranking only represents our past, and not our present.

The journey will begin with us welcoming Kagdazka and Pazujebhu to Concord Heights on matchday one. I know it seems a little weird to be playing matchday one, but you must forgive our hosts from Mytannion as they must not be familiar with international law. That of course, is whenever there is a bye day in the group stage of a tournament, Cassadaigua is required by law to have it be on matchday one. K & P will be a formidable opponent, even if we do not know a ton about their basketball program. What we do know is that when they play in the World Cup, they are a team with a high level of work ethic, and are often successful. Our game plan therefore will be ready to play a team of that mindset, because naturally their basketball players would like to make a name for themselves instead of having people do what I just did and say something about their soccer team and apply it to them. I do like our team, though, and am cautiously optimistic about what we may be able to do in this tournament. Sure, we realize we might be overshadowed a little bit while the world’s best are in Cassadaigua for the World Bowl, but hey if you can’t get tickets, or don’t like gridiron, you now have us as an option. And if you’re gonna focus on the World Bowl for now, we’ll be here when it’s done!

ISN > IBC IX > News.

Amber Reardon, the 26-year old Cassadaiguan team captain and power forward made a very interesting blog post on the famous Cassadaiguan social networking website, [enterperson'sname's] Space. On 'Amber's Space', she made a reference to Mytannion - or us, the nation behind the organisation of this tournament - stating that we were perhaps not familiar with international law, as we were forcing the Cassadaiguan national basketball team to play on matchday one of a tournament, for some reason the Cassadaiguans must always have their bye day be on matchday one of a tournament, a rule which, we do not quite understand really.

How can the international powers-that-be, be so interesting in passing such legislature - surely it would be better focussing the time used for passing this, perhaps trying to think of a way to end poverty in underdeveloped countries (like ours), or perhaps giving grants to aid development in said underdeveloped countries (we need financial help damnit..), or even think of a way to stop crime in nations where the crime rate is high (yeah, we need help on that score too). So basically, we think that this international 'law' is a waste of time and the head of the MBA, Dalibor Juhasz, agrees:

"We're not above international law - don't get me wrong, but, when it is international law this trivial - I'm sure it can be ignored. It is something that in my mind - and many will probably agree - seems to have wasted time for the people who instated this law. We refuse to bend to this, I'm sorry, but this is not a law that we will follow and is a law which in fact seems tremendously silly." Is what the bumbling MBA commissioner told the assembled press at his press conference today.

On another note, we will be kicking off our IBC against rivals Cotdelapoms at the home of Mytanar National Collegiate Basketball (MNCB) National Champions, the Pjotilla Tech Red Devils in Carpignan Bay - where we will be able to watch former MNCB stars like Adrian Tuma (C), Leon Mendez (PF), Leonid Kohl (PG), Chad Ortiz (SF) and Radoslav Seznik (SG) perform against our greatest sporting rivals, the Cotdelapomais - Leonid Kohl is expected to be the star of the national side, the slightly undersized (he's only six-foot tall), point guard was one of the first great MNCB heroes, playing for Ibon Industrial College in their run to the MNCB Champinship in MNCB 1, only to be beaten by Pjotilla Tech who won the title again this year.

Radoslav Seznik is a former player for them and has been thrown in the side, fresh from his senior year for Pjotilla Tech in which he won his second MNCB National Championship. Other than that, Tuma and Mendez are former Parr State College players and Kohl and Chad Ortiz - are from Ibon Industrial meaning there is a three-(college) team monopoly on the national side. Chad Ortiz is an interesting player, he is a former power forward converted into a small forward (he's six-foot, five inches - yeah, real small), and could be the player that makes or breaks this team, he could be a weakness or liability to this team. The team will just have to wait and see.

This tournament could be interesting for the Mytanar team.

ANDROMEDA NEWS NETWORK
National Indoor Arena
Lulika City, Silver Beach
July 2, 2021

The horn sounds signifying the end of Andromeda Eagles’ first game of the International Basketball Championship. A smattering of Andromedan fans who made the trip cheer the Andromeda Eagle, who just won their first game over Silver Beach. Kent Chapman, a short reporter for the Andromeda News Network with horn-rimmed glasses and thinning hair, stands with Andromeda Eagles Head Coach Catherine Priest after the game.

CHAPMAN: We’re here with the Head Coach of the Andromeda Eagles, Catherine Priest. Coach Priest, were there any surprises?

Priest, is a taller woman with a natural light brown tan. She wears a blue pants suit.

PRIEST: When we looked at the schedule, the biggest surprise was that we have to start with two road games. We had hoped renovation at the Marvin Wood Complex would be done by now, but on the bright side, it means more home games near the end of group play.

CHAPMAN: How about the game tonight?

PRIEST: I told the team that this tournament would be much easier if we could have six players on the court. We had six players tonight. I give credit to our sixth man, the fans of ASBA Basketball who made the trip with us. We couldn’t have done it without their support.

CHAPMAN: What about Josie Hammersmith? She took some man-sized hits out there, didn’t she?

PRIEST: As you know, the Silverians are bigger than us, so she took charges, set screens, grabbed rebounds for us. She kept Silver Beach at arm’s length so that the other girls could score.

CHAPMAN: And they did. Hammerschmidt got a double-double off the bench, 10 points and 10 rebounds. Ellis and Battle each had 13. Bouvier got 12 and all against a much taller, much stronger Silver Beach Squad.

PRIEST: It was definitely a team effort, Kent. The girls have adjusted well to the offense. They also did the hard work in practice with the defense and it showed tonight.

CHAPMAN: What about the point? Lee did really well off the bench. She’s most familiar with the Palermo offense you’re using. Will it be Lee or Braga?

PRIEST: We had to sub a lot tonight, Kent. It’s conceivable that the winner of IBC9 could play nearly 30 games, which is equal to an entire ASBA Regular Season. We have to do everything we can to keep out legs fresh.

CHAPMAN: One last thing. I heard you got a phone call from President Mike Knox before the game. What did you two discuss?

PRIEST: As you know, Kent, the President played on the first team that the Allied States sent to the Basketball Championship. He wished us good luck and hoped that we finished better than 15th Place, which is how his team did.

CHAPMAN: Well, I’m sure the President echoed everyone’s sentiments here tonight. The Andromeda Eagles win their first game of the International Basketball Championship 74-61 over Silver Beach. Their next stop is Yoos-Carry-Back-On-Dora. From the National Indoor Arena in Silver Beach with Coach Catherine Priest, I’m Kent Chapman. Back to you Billy.

Havana Tribute
The #1 Newspaper in Western Cuba

One Ugly Game for Western Cuba

Diego Sanchez

Western Cuba 32 28 60
95x 55 36 91

Havana City, Havana- We didn't know what to expect from the National Team in there first group stage game against 95x, and at 95 but what we saw was ugly. 95x quickly got off to an easy stop. Recording a 11-2 run in the first 3 minutes of the game. After that nothing went in favor for Western Cuba, and at the half 95x was leading by a score of 55-32. Even when 95x put there subs in for the 4th quarter they still outplayed Western Cuba and would end up winning the game 91-60.

Nothing went right for Western Cuba throughout the entire game, they failed to make a single foul shot. And it isn't like they didn't get plenty of them. Throughout the game there was at least 16+ occasions in which they could of made a foul shot and failed. Turnovers dominated Western Cuba throughout the game, there had to be at least 25+ turnovers throughout the game and fouls were a problem too. Nesto Ruiz and Pablo Lopez both fouled out while the big man Paco Pena was ejected due to him punching team mate Franco Castro while confronting him on the bench. This team has more to work on then just basketball, as off right now they need to go back to the basics of discipline, and team work.

" I am incredibly disappointed about not only our performance yesterday, but our lack of sportsmanship. My players showed complete disrespect towards the 95x national team and I hope that you can accept my apology for my player's actions. The next time we face off in Match Day Eight, my players will respect the 95x national team and will play fairly. ", comments Coach Rafael Mendoza during a post-game press conference after the game aired on NST.

However though Coach Mendoza lost his tone throughout the press-conference after a reporter asked him the question. " What did our players do wrong, and what do they need to improve on. " Which Mendoza replied, " Are you f**king kidding me? How the hell do you not know what we did wrong and need work on. Where have you been the last three hours? Has your head been up someone's ass? " Mendoza quickly left the conference after the incident.

While he would later apology for the harsh words saying. " I apologize to everyone for my words during the press conference. They were uncalled for and make me, my team, my family, and my country look bad. I promise that I will never have a breakout like that during my tenure as national team coach ever again. "

However though many are saying that the words were called for with one fan saying on NST's web blog. " 1 point for Mendoza! That reporter got what he deserved. Who the f*ck does that sh*thead of a reporter think he is. He deserved that answer for such an idiotic question.

Now that we got through the bad parts of today's story we can get to the good news. Tomorrow is a day off for Western Cuba, giving the boys the time to recover from yesterday's lose and to focus on the next game. Western Cuba faces off against the Allamunnic States who suffered a lose in there first game also losing to Delaclava 80-67. The game will be held at the Guevara Center, a few dozen tickets are still available so try to get them if you can and consider yourself lucky.

Taeshan 77–78 Spitfyred1
Thrilling victory for the Fyreballz

Points
M. Bala-----------20
P. Bala------------11
Berko-------------18
Hamilton---------5
Niek--------------7
Sefu--------------11
Teddy------------6

Rebounds
Berko 15, Sefu 10, Teddy 9, Niek 7, P. Bala 5, M. Bala 2

The Fyreballz won their first game of IBC 9 by a single point, with defense playing the key down the stretch.

The team definitely wasn't lacking in effort or work, but had issues with their lesser players. Two players, Kofi Berko and Masamba Sefu had double-doubles, with scoring and rebounding; but some players seemed not to contribute much. Lorraine Hamilton was surely on the hot seat with a weak day, complement her 11 assists with only five points and not a single rebound. Chad Teddy played good defense and helped out the team sizewise in both PF and C positions, but wasn't the scoring threat he was expected to be with only six points. Ilan Niek reinforced the weakness of the Fyreballz with only seven points and seven rebounds, he seemed afraid of contact which needs fixing. Madhava Bala led the team in scoring with twenty points, but sometimes seemed one dimensional, moving bad off the ball and not focusing on defense. Basketball is a team sport afterall. Kofi Berko really lead the team with 18 points and fifteen boards. He seemed to hustle every play and made life miserable on defense with 6 blocks. Masamba Sefu was a nice surprise diving for loose balls and grabbing four steals. He was very fast and played great. Piripi Bala had a nice game and should look for the somewhat open PG spot. He scored 11 but needs to feed the ball more.

The team lead for much of the game but never put the game away. Taeshan tried a late comeback with 8-0 run in the fourth to take the lead, but a nice steal by Sefu to a huge alley-oop to Madhava Bala followed by a strong block by Berko put the game away.

Silver Beach loses International Basketball Championships home opener against the Andromeda Islands, 74-61.

LULIKA CITY- Eagles fans numbered a good amount in this game, and they were seen all over the National Indoor Arena, as they were the majority at the end of a 74-61 beating that the Silverians received at the hands of The Andromeda Islands. The much smaller Andromeda Islands team outhustled the Silverians, and the Silverians were flat-out outworked on their own home court. The Andromeda Islands had an all-around great team effort, as Cassie Ellis was limited to 13 points, but Bouvier stepped up with 12 points, and Battle got another 13 for the Andromeda Islands, while Hammerschmidt stepped up off the bench to wear down the Silverian defense, giving the Eagles a double-double, with 10 points and 10 rebounds against this out-hustled Silverian basketball team.

The Silver Beach basketball team struggled from the field early on, and the Andromeda Islands stifling defense, combined with the non-existent offense from Silver Beach, let the Eagles, after just 2 minutes and 30 seconds, have an 8-1 lead over Silver Beach to start the game at the National Indoor Arena. Coach Blazers was visibly angry and called a timeout at that point, and the team looked lost when he replaced all of their starters but 1. After the 1st quarter, a reporter said that Silver Beach had “An opportunity to get the crowd going and energized to start the game, but wasted it by starting poorly.” Silver Beach was down 18-8 to start the 2nd quarter against the Eagles.

In the second quarter, Silver Beach really made their only push of the 1st half against the Andromeda Islands, who were really in control throughout with big contributions from unexpected places. Star Shooting Guard George Baileys went off in the 2nd quarter, scoring 7 points in a row with an open jump shot, a steal and then a three point play to pull Silver Beach within 3 with 5 minutes to go in the half, down 26-23. The Andromeda Islands came to play against the Silverians however, and after it was 29-26 with 3 minutes left in the half, ended the half on a 7-0 run sparked by Jackie Bouvier, who hit a three pointer to start the run, had a blocked shot, and two assists on the run, including one where guard Maria Elena hit a 18 foot jumper as time expired in the half, and the Andromeda Islands had a 36-26 lead over Silver Beach at the break.

In the 2nd half, Coach Blazers tried different tactics, as each one was tried, and then failed. Cassie Ellis, the star player on the Eagles, had burned Silver Beach for 10 first half points, including 8 points in the 2nd quarter. Silver Beach, instead of the single-coverage, went to try and double-team her every time she got the ball, and Silver Beach played her more physically. She out-hustled the Silverian frontcourt for rebounds however, and, while only scoring 3 points in the second half, was a distributor, dishing the ball out to open teammates whenever a second Silverian ran over to cover her, which allowed Battle to score 11 of her 13 points in the 2nd half, including 3 of her baskets from beyond the arc. Silver Beach couldn’t really make the game closer, though it was more high-scoring, with the Eagles taking a 53-45 lead into the 4th quarter.

Silver Beach made its last push of the game, and got its fans the most excited and energized, when they went on a 6-0 run to start the 4th quarter, emphasized by a slam dunk from Ryan Berry, who played the power forward when Silver Beach went small on that run, to counter the Eagles speed and hustle on the court. After that run with 10:30 left in the game, the score was 53-51, which was the closest Silver Beach would ever make it. The Andromeda Islands went on a 10-0 over the span of 3:22, which was mercifully ended by a Silverian timeout after Hammerschmidt blocked a shot into the hands of her point guard, and sprinted to the other end for an alley-oop layup, and after that, the score was 63-51 Eagles. The Silver Beach squad could never really get any offense mounted, as they only scored 8 points in the last 10:30 of the game, and only 4 of those points were from the field. George Baileys struggled from the field, as the star player of Silver Beach was only 9-24 shooting the ball. George Baileys led all scorers with 27 points, as he had 2 three pointers in the game, and was 7-7 from the line. He didn’t consistently hit shots however, and the entire Silverian team was cold from the field from start to finish, and that explains why Silver Beach lost at home today.

Coach Travis Blazers said that his team would go back to practice and work on “basic fundamentals” before they go to play their next game. “We were outworked, outhustled, and outplayed all on our home court, and we deserved to lose this game. What my team will look at, along with the coaching staff, are ways we can manufacture points. We need to hit our shots, and if we miss, we need to hustle to the ball. I was disappointed that the Eagles ran all over us on our home floor, and I guarantee you, we will not be outhustled the way we were today at the National Indoor Arena ever again, as long as I’m coaching this team.”

Silver Beach starts in a hole, and with the #15 and #5 teams respectively in their group as well, Silver Beach is going to have to find a way to win against higher-ranked teams, though that will prove to be a very tall challenge for this Silverian squad, as it looks to try and find a way to win, and a path to victory.

This team is really bad. Missing 25 shots? Missing six 3-point attempts? Missing 5 free throws? We just lucky that Legokiller missed even more than we did, or else this game would have been a huge loss. Seriously, if a team takes 59 shots and only makes 34... how is that team even in a postion to win the game? Or if a team makes only 10 of 16 from 3-point land and 24 of 29 from the line, they shouldn't win too many games right? But somehow this team did. Don't know if we just got extremely lucky or if Legokiller just had a bad night, but in the rematch, they're gonna cream us.

Up next we travel to Sovreignry, and the advanced scouting says, this team is just too tough for Qazox. Might as well just forfeit right now and go right into the bye date, right?

From the Pacific City Courier:
95X Wins in International Basketball
HAVANA CITY, WESTERN CUBA—The new-look 95X National Basketball Team recorded their first win in the Ninth International Basketball Championships by routing Western Cuba 91-60. Kali Cate and Mike Portland both led 95X with 26 points apiece. Kevin Macadam grabbed 15 rebounds.

“I think this makes a statement,” said 95X Head Coach Mike Mallon.

As for giving Western Cuba many chances on foul shots Mallon commented, “We still have to work on fouls, [...] not giving the opponents any chance at the free-throw line. We were lucky in that regard.”

Western Cuba failed to make a single foul shot, while Macadam, Mike Portland, and even six-foot-three small forward Tanya Schiller grabbed rebounds after the missed attempts. The Western Cuba air ball shots were a different story, as 95X received the ball automatically.

The second half was much closer than the 8-point difference between the two teams. 95X led by 23 at the half and Coach Mallon emptied the bench for the beginning of the Fourth Quarter. The small lineup of four guards and seven-foot-three center Cale Couch all received some quality playing time as 95X coasted to victory.

95X plays their next game in Cascadia, 95X, against the Allamunnic States.

It would be easier just to incorporate a "Grief Region" button, so you wouldn't even need to make the effort to do the actual raiding. Players could just bounce from region to region and destroy everyone else's efforts at will, without even bothering about WA status. Wouldn't that be nice. -Frisbeeteria

Matchday 1 Overview
By: Tom Portano:
Inter'l Play Journalist

It was an ugly game, but that is to be expected when you play another team with a higher ranking and more experience. Surprisingally Camwood came out with a 19-17 lead after the first quarter, and only trailed 56-49 at half time. The third quarter is when Andossa se Mitrin Vega started to "pour it on". Defensively Andossa limited Camwood to 5 points, but meanwhile Andossa se Mitrin Vega scred 23 points and increased the score to 79-54 after three quarters. Camwood found their scoriing eventualy, but Andossa se Mitrin Vega countinued to put points on the board. When the buzzer rang Andossa se Mitrin Vega got one more three-point shot to break 100 and make the final score 101 to 69.

Point Guard Jeff Arwood was an easy choice for MVP. He lead the team in points, and steals. If everyone played like he did Camwood would've won by a landslide. Power Forward Ben Haddock let his emotions get the best of him and he managed to foul out. It was a depressing loss but the Jays fought hard.

(OOC: I hope this post provides a plausible storyline for the suspension of tournament play. It’ll also keep this thread on page 1 of NS Sports for the time being.)

THE PRIVATE JET OF THE PORTSMOUTH PIRATES
En route from Silver Beach to Euskirribakondara
July 3, 2021
6:15 pm Portsmouth Time

Coaches Priest and Sims sit together and discuss yesterday’s game. Sims also checks her e-mail on her laptop.

SIMS: If the officiating is as erratic here as it was in Silver Beach, we won’t know what to expect.

PRIEST: Honestly, I felt bad for Silver Beach. That Mytannion official was making all kinds of bad calls.

SIMS: You know, I wasn’t going to say anything, because most of his calls were in our favor, but that Mytannion ref was making some rather…

PRIEST: Sims, I agree. Everything else was okay. The Silverian officials seemed on the level, but that one guy, he had his head up his…

As Priest talks, Sims scans online news articles about IBC9.

SIMS: Also, you seen some of these stories in the sports section? Lots of complaints about the Mytannion officials.

PRIEST: I don't understand why they needed one of their own refs at every game. It seems they don’t trust other countries to have good officials.

SIMS: And their decision with Sarzonia. The defending champions of World Basketball expelled by tournament organizers? It’s just unbelievable.

Annie Navarro interrupts Sims and Priest.

NAVARRO: I just got a call from Johnny Romanov, the government spokesman. Try to find the News Network on simulcast.

----------

ANDROMEDA NEWS NETWORK
BREAKING NEWS
6:15 pm Portsmouth Time

An Andromeda News Network reporter, Polly Cleese, stands in front of the official residence of the President of the Allied States.

CLEESE: This is Polly Cleese, live from Todd House in Andromeda City. Earlier today, after hearing about repeated irregularities in IBC games across the globe, there was an emergency conference call of the Andromeda Sports Commission. ASBA (Allied States Basketball Association) Commissioner Clarence Withers, speaking from Todd House alongside President Mike Knox, explained the situation.

(cut to Withers)

WITHERS: There have been stories from several different sources about bribes to tournament organizers in exchange for favorable draw positions. The most blatant story involves the removal of Sarzonia, the defending Champions, from the Tournament.

(cut to Johnny Romanov)

CLEESE (off camera): Johnny Romanov, government spokesman and Andromeda’s premier chess player, describes questionable practices by tournament organizers.

ROMANOV: First, when we visited Mytannion, the host committee gave us envelopes full of money with the understanding that we would vote for their bid. Then, once the they got the bid, tournament organizers wanted bribes so that we would get a good draw.

CLEESE: Did you vote for their bid?

ROMANOV: The Andromeda Sports Commission remained neutral.

CLEESE: So, what did you do?

ROMANOV: We paid off Paul with the payola we got from Peter. We sent the money we got from the host committee to the organizers. Mytannion was bought off, but with their own money.

(cut to Cleese)

CLEESE: The controversies in this young tournament weren’t isolated to payoffs and Sarzonia. Andromeda fans and Silver Beach fans alike witnessed several questionable calls. A few instances proved especially telling.

(cut to game footage)

Josie Hammerschmidt tries to make a shot over a Silver Beach defender. The shot is clearly blocked, but the Mytannion official blew his official and called a foul.

MYTANNION OFFICIAL: Foul, number 52.

Both #52 Jacob Arkins and Hammerschmidt are surprised by the call. The instant replay showed that Arkins made a clean block. There are choruses of jeers and boos from the crowd after seeing the replay.

ARKINS: That ref must be blind. That block was clean.

Hammerschmidt, normally inclined to applaud a call in her favor, was also perplexed by the ref’s call.

HAMMERSCHMIDT: I have to agree. Nice block.

CLEESE (off camera): Later, reserve guard Cathy Clark would be called for travelling by the same official three times in two minutes.

(cut to highlight)

MYTANNION OFFICIAL: Travelling, #41.

Clark threw up her hands, emphasizing to the ref and everyone in the stadium, that she didn't have the ball. Clark's teammate, Lola Getz, was driving the ball down court at the time.

CLEESE (off camera): These were just two of several instances last night in games throughout the world where questionable calls were made. In some instances, poor officiating proved to be the deciding factor in games. Almost all of the most egregious calls were made by referees from Mytannion.

(cut to Withers)

WITHERS: Whether the problems are due to corruption or incompetence, Mytannion has lost the confidence of the International Sporting Community. Until the tournament is hosted by a different country, the Andromeda Eagles should no longer be a part of it.

(cut to Cleese)

CLEESE: The Andromeda Eagles aren’t the only country that has suspended play. Most of the other participating countries have already suspended play until another country agrees to host the tournament. For the Andromeda News Network, I’m Polly Cleese.

----------

Coaches Sims, Priest and Navarro all look at Sims’ laptop. They’re all momentarily speechless.

SIMS: So, now what? We’re in route to a game that we won’t play.

PRIEST: How about a few days of R&R. Nothing says we can’t still stay at the hotel, see the sites, explore the countryside.

NAVARRO: Good idea. I hear that Euskirribakondara is an environmentally stunning nation with a strong emphasis on tourism.

---BREAKING NEWS---

Mytannion IBC bid found to be illegal. New host of IBC IX to be announced later today.

A scandal, the likes not seen in years has struck the IBC. Mytannion, elected to host the 9th edition of the tourney, was found to be accepting bribes for favorable draw postions in exchange for votes. An undercover reporter from the Andromeda Islands, whose name is currently being withheld do to privacy laws within TAI, found that Mytanar organizers payed upwards of $50,000,000 (100 million Zaqs) to various nations in exchange for their vote to host the upcoming event. Along with the payments, those teams would recieve favorable pot postions during the draw, to avoid the higher ranked teams, such as Sarzonia, Qazox and Cassadaigua. QIBA (Qazoxian International Basketball Association) president Haley Gannon had this to say:

It's a shame that some nations were so scared of Qazox to accept bribes to avoid us. Have you looked at our roster? Those 10 were the best we could find, and they are horrible! Before any rumors start, I'll answer your questions for you.
No, Qazox didn't accept any bribes.
We voted for Carasatoga not Mytannion.
No, we don't know which nations did accept the bribes, nor if any did vote for Mytannion.
No, Qazox is not going to put forth a bid to assume hosting of IBC 9.
    Yes, Qazox will still participate.
We don't know yet where the tourney will be held or if there will be a re-draw.

I hope that answered your questions.

According to the IBC charter, if a tourney is suspended before every team has played a game; it can be re-drawn once the tourney re-starts. So until we either find more info on the new host, the re-draw or more about the scandal, coverage of IBC 9 is currently on hiatus.
