Khanastan is a very immigrant friendly country, so many cultures mix. However, the local culture is cross between Caspian/Black Sea cultures and Chinese culture.
“The ancient Oracle said that I was the wisest of all the Greeks. It is because I alone, of all the Greeks, know that I know nothing.” - Socrates
Khanastan is an entirely fictional PMT nation somewhat similar to a larger, more free version of China. We are a massive federal representative republic of half a billion people with a self-sufficient, world-dominating economy. NS stats are not used. Use our Factbook instead.
Call me Khan. I've been here a while. I'm from Glasgow, Scotland. I think people should treat people like they want to be treated themselves. If you want to know more you're going have to buy me a drink or get to know me better, otherwise i'll stop being such a mystery.
Merry crisis one and all.

Protestant New England's sobriety and piety, plus Quaker Pennsylvania's broad-minded tolerance, plus Scots-Irish toughness and bellicosity, plus Scandinavian semi-socialist politics, plus a dash of East Asian culture from largely unassimilated recent immigration, plus the grim self-reliance of a nation that just lost a million people in an afternoon. That's Norvenia for you.

Real life? It's closest to the USSR, but even that's not too close.

Quoth my factbook
Tenerian culture is distinct. The average filly, colt, or child would go to school, which is separated by age. School starts at age three, and continues to age twenty two. Ages three to six go to befa-escula (preschool.) Ages seven to eleven go to prima-escula (primary school.) Ages twelve to fifteen go to doca-escula (second school.) Ages sixteen to eighteen go to topa-escula (highest school.) At this point, if their grade point average is 3.0 or higher, they choose a major. if not, the government chooses one for them. Ages nineteen to twenty-two go to viva-escula (life school, or college.) At age twenty-two, when about to graduate from viva-escula, they each take a test, depending on the major they have chosen (or been chosen.) If they pass, they may go on to begin their career or military employment. If they fail, they are tested again. If they pass that test, they may begin their career as an apprentice. If they fail that, they must work a less-than-desirable job, such as sewage control.
After graduating from school, stallions, males, and volunteers go to their local recruitment to apply for the military. If not joining the military, mares and females begin their career. Once the stallions and males retire from duty, they begin their career.
Common areas of socialization include Templa Ponia (Ponyist temple) and Fora (market.) The market includes all of the government stores, such as food, clothing, vehicles, and electronics.
When a pony becomes eighteen, they may apply for the ability to drive. If they pass their driving examination, they receive a car. If they fail, they may only re-apply after they have gotten out of viva-escula. If they fail again, the won’t drive.
Marriage is very common. Ponies may marry either earth, pegasus, or unicorn. Humans may only marry humans, as to ensure no ugly equine-sapiens will be created. If a mix between a pony and a human is EVER found, it is sold and its parents jailed.
Ponyism is a major pat of society. There are sermons held every day, and you must go to at least one every two weeks. However, there are different types of Ponyism. The three major Tenirian Ponyism branches are Celestian, which focuses around Princess Celestia and the sun; Lunar, which focuses around Princess Luna and the moon; and Harmonic, which focuses on both. Discordian Ponyism, focusing around the chaos of the world, has been outlawed.

Sovietia Culture

Postby Sovietia » Tue Nov 15, 2011 11:54 am

Our similarities are of the 1984 Orwellian Government. Closely related to the Soviet Union in its formal glory of 1960. We also share the economy of the Communist Chinese of the same year, yet our military is more concentrated to Venezuela or Cuba. The administration of Sovietia is aimed for a North Korean feel, with some Cambodian tendencies. So in short, we are a lovely place to visit and will always welcome visitors to our great nation. We love you.

my nation's culture

Postby Live peacefully » Wed Nov 16, 2011 5:00 am

GENERAL: freedom loving, libertarian, gun carrying, government hating sovereign individuals, where the government fears the people & not the other way round. the wealthiest people generously fund social programs, & corporations are expected (not vie legislation) to be socially & morally responsible. people would shun them if they were not. government is not allowed to "make" promises of any kind, but to concentrate on the not interfering in the lives of the people & spending very wisely the little taxes it collects.
NATIONAL SPORT: is Target Shooting, with the best shot being chosen to be Head of Defense.
JUSTICE: there are only 3 laws:
1.) do no harm
2.) do not commit fraud
3.) business contract law
(in which agreeing parties can put anything they want or not)
all cases are dealt in an open court, with a blindfolded judge presiding (also wears hood, & uses voice disorting microphone to ensure no one knows if they are male or female. 13 jurors (also blindfolded & hooded for anonimity) anyone can represent the accused. "lawyer's" are not a profession in our nation. juries award levels of compensation (no restriction) & also decide punishment, imprisonment does not exist, but house arrest & electronic tagging do. serious crimes like pre-meditated murder will normally expect the punishment of banishing, which includes confiscation of all property for issue to the family of the murdered person. marriage is treated as a contract & divorce is rare, but not unheard of.
PERSONAL FREEDOMS:there are no laws curtailing any personal activity, drugs, alcohol, sexual activities, religion, & complete freedom of expression, through speech, writing, blogging, etc. In the cases of slander, one is free to take the slanderer to a court of arbitration (similar to criminal court in set up)
IMMIGRATION & BORDER CONTROL: entry into our nation is only allowed if you are invited by a person, (who has to meet you at the border) who is then your sponsor & is responsible for your behaviour, for the rest of your stay in our nation. Citizenship is rarely requested or granted. anyone can leave when they want.
DEFENSE: we are completely neutral & do not send any armed forces anywhere. our head of Defense is only really a figurehead & most control is exerted locally via local militias (unpaid volunteers), who choose their own leadership, most people do serve in the militia, but there is no draft or conscription or regular armed forces. Most people are armed to one degree or other, so woe betide any country thinking of invading!
HEALTH CARE: this is conducted under free market arrangements, however like most other businesses, health care providers are also expected to behave in a social & moral manner by assisting those that cannot afford health care costs. no one fall through the cracks so to speak. Most have health care insurance. All insurance providers insist on clients maintaining a healthy life style, diet, exercise, etc. the healthier you are the lower your costs & coincidentally the rate that you need to visit your doctor also is lower too. obesity rates are very low indeed.
EDUCATION: All education providers at private none are state at all, most charge minimal fees for primary / elementary & secondary levels, which most if not all can afford, seeing as there is very, very low taxation. Higher education, college, university is also reasonably charged & most businesses do sponsor / provide bursaries for eduction costs. Most businesses do this for purely self interest reasons, as they can insist that the cirriculum does include what they feel is relevant & required.

We don't have to do everything immediately, we can let it wait and solve it later. Humans see this as "lazy", but we don't.

Postby Erendi » Sat Nov 19, 2011 11:01 pm

Erendi is a futuristic space-faring culture located in a planet in a double star system (as sun-like star with a red dwarf companion a few times beyond where the orbit of Neptune would be). Our planet is about 85% covered in water with the Erendian continent the only major land area. It also has 3 moons with the largest about half the size of our own moon. The Erendian people look quite similar to humans and can mate with humans though their is a natural telepathic ability in about 40% of the population which while largely genetic also has an environmental component to it as well. This ability (while not strong enough to read individual thoughts) can read emotions and give some idea of a person's state of mind as well as detect deception. We are a pretty curious people and our starships recently have came into contact with several civilizations (including earth) through a nuturally occuring wormhole near our system. We have also found other several civilizations over the years amongst the stars.

Culturally we place an strong emphisis on arts and music as well as science and technology and this can be seen in the design of everything from cities and starships to cupholders. We tend to be pretty open and tolerant people for anything other then acts which cause harm to others and usually very welcoming of foreigners. At the same we can also highly opinionated and value a good friendly political debate. Things such as, public nudity, drug use (so long as they are not too dangerous) or sex (so long as it is not exploitative) are really no big deal and are seen as normal. We also place a high value on the welfare of our citizens and while most industries are in private hands we have a strong social safety net as well as universal healthcare and have abolished poverty through these means.

While most parts of Erendi are culturally pretty similar the southern part of our nation has it's own unique culture and comes from a mixture of the more European looking Ernedian peoples with a Polynesian like people. This region tends to be matriachial and has it's own unique art. It tends to be known for it's sexual openness as it is common for women to approach someone who looks single and flirt with/have sex with them. It is also is tropical with many beaches while the rest of the nation is either seasonal like the northeastern US (areas around Erendi City) or semiarid (the agricultural and basket weaving zones). Erendi also contains large desert from the center to the west coast and a large mountain chain in the Northwast (The Erendian Mountains) famous for it's skiing.

The government is a parliamentary democracy with several parties and fair and free elections and free press/speech. We have no official religion and value religious freedom. Slightly over 40% of our people are agnostic/atheist and for the rest have several religions which strangely enough are very similar certain religions found on Earth and while most are tolerant we do have some religious extremists though they are rare. As for food it is vegan almost exclusively due to respecting other sentient beings which share our world. Our food is excellent and quite similar to Asian dishes on Earth but with a unique flavor.

Our main industries include tourism (the southern areas and the Erendian mountains in the Northwest being the biggest but also some come to Erendi City and some come to see the natural beauty of our desert region). Our second largest industry is basket weaving (which are very high quality and highly decorated) and the third is automobile manufacturing (in the areas to the northeast of Erendi City).
