SCCPL Teams and Stadiums

Postby Southern Cynocephali » Sat May 21, 2011 3:04 am

Image

The SCCPL was created upon the orders of the Minister of Sport, Josephe-Desire Abrassart to create a domestic league in Southern Cynocephali. Fourteen teams were selected by a national sports committee based on applications taken from existing amateur clubs in Southern Cynocephali. Government investment in stadia and low-interest governmental loans to teams to facilitate player purchases assisted in the successful formation of the league.

The third season of the SCCPL saw its expansion to twenty teams, extending the season to thirty eight matchdays. The distinct difference between the top and bottom teams has resulted in discussions within the SCPA about possibly splitting the league into two divisions in the near future.

Image

Brienne:
Last club to be admitted to the SCCPL, Brienne F.C has focused on a roster of mainly local players from Brienne and its surrounds.

Image

Asylcut & Cluwes:
Club combines the sister cities of Asylcut & Cluwes and the surrounding agricultural districts. Known for a rough style of play with hardy players.

Image

Timaeus-Critias:
Twin mining towns on the Pietrasanta river combined existing amateur clubs into a professional structure on the announcement of the SCCPL. Notable for being the club with the highest uptake of low-interest governmental loans on the formation of SCCPL.

Image

Image

Port Crossoix:
Port Crossoix have a long football history, with the first ever game of the sport played in Port Crossoix in 1879. The population shift to the east resulted in Port Crossoix struggling to maintain a fan base, seeing them overlooked for the foundation of the SCCPL. Their entry in the third year of the competition has seen the club resolve to showcase local footballing talents.

Image

Lampsacus:
Lampsacus F.C was formed by a private group, based locally in the city. Investors include local media owner Roberto Fardah. Lampsacus has a rivalry with Seiya.

Image

Massalia:
Located on the Josephine River, near Lilter, Massalia has historically lived in the shadow of its nearby cousin. Massalia F.C has also experience similar challenges, struggling to find quality players willing to transfer to the club. At the conclusion of season 2, Massalia was purchased by Lilter United in a move to secure the future of the emerging force in the SCCPL.

Image

Ceosceo:
Founded by Matthieu Harte, ex-mayor of Cyprilium Town who rejected his bid to form their professional operations. Since then, Harte has deliberately fostered rivalries between the clubs.

Image

La Maddelena:
One of the six clubs brought into the league at the start of season 3, La Maddelena is based on the northern island by the same name, and will have an intense rivalry with their neighbours, Namtock and NWU.

Image

Locri:
Entering in season 3, the local derby between Locri and their nearby neighbour Indica will add extra spice to the league season. The club is supported by a largely middle class fan base, and have the largest existing support of any of the new clubs.

Image

Namtock:
Famous as the location and name of the treaty signed between Royalist and Independent forces in 1855, the Namtock club is known for its picturesque stadium, and strong youth programme, especially among the local sea-gypsy people.

Image

Meropis:
Meropis gained entry to the SCCPL under local anti-discrimination laws, as the club caters mainly for women players. The local mining activities mean the amount of men able to play in the club is small, so the club decided to embrace it's female talent pool.

Image

Leben:
Formed from a buyout of defunct NWU, Leben entered the SCCPL in Season 4. The only team in the competition representing the northern island, Leben's new owners hope to capitalise on an increase interest from the BoF/WC in the re-emerging northern colonies.

Image

Cyprilium Town:
Smallest club in the league with the smallest budget. Roster is composed mainly of younger players, many under the age of 21.

SCCPL Season 1

Postby Southern Cynocephali » Sat May 21, 2011 3:04 am

Season 1

Edouard Morjuet: Welcome to SCTV’s coverage of the opening day of the inaugural season of the SCCPL, Premier Division! I’m your host Edouard Morjuet.
Aurelie Jamet: And I’m Aurelie Jamet. It certainly promises to be a good season Edouard.
E: It most definitely does. Indica and Lilter seem to be the two teams to watch based on preseason chatter. I’m sure we will see a big rivalry between Southern Cynocephali’s biggest cities.
A: And we shouldn’t forget Invictas or Rhohdah. Both clubs have exciting players that are sure to grab attention this year.
E: Indeed Aurelie. Cyprilium looks to have a good young team, but I still think they will be outclassed by most of the other teams in the competition.
A: I'm also looking forward to all the new stadiums this year Edouard. The new stadium at Lilter in particular is stunning.
E: Yes, it was designed by one of Southern Cynocephali's favourite sons, Lars Leahroyd.
A: I just love his work. Some of his new international work, such as the airport in Greater Sofa, is just spectacular. Back to the football, it looks like the opening ceremony for the competition is about to get underway.
E: Today will undoubtedly mark a historic moment for all fans of the beautiful game here in Southern Cynocephali. Lets cross to the action live!

After nine rounds, the battle for the premiership is in full swing, with five teams emerging as possible contenders. Whilst Rhohdah claims top spot at this stage, they are only just ahead of favourites Indica and Lilter by goal difference and one point respectively. Invictus is also poised to make a challenge for the top spot, whilst Seiya and Kerberos do look off the pace. No suprises down the bottom, with the exception of Cyprilium Town, who managed to get off the bottom of the table with a win against lowly Massalia in round nine. Lilter remains undefeated, their defensive style of football proving difficult for the opposition, conceding only two goals so far this season. Rhohdah remained undefeated until round nine, where they were suprisingly defeated by Lampsacus after a contentious 89th minute penalty against the visiting Rhohdah goalkeeper.

After eighteen rounds the competition remains tighter than the organisers could have dreamed. Despite dominating the early rounds, Rhohdah has had a spectacular change of fortunes. After remaining undefeated for the first eight rounds, they sufferred a five game losing streak. They have turned a corner recently with results against lowly ranked teams, however their losing streak has seriously damaged their premiership chances and look unlikely to lift the trophy. Only two points separate the top five teams, although Lilter, Isereliet and Invictus are the teams considered to be realistically in the fight. Lilter has only suffered one defeat this season, and sit on top thanks to their ability to grind out results. Port Milne and Seiya , whilst close to the front runners, do not appear to have the quality or depth to lift the trophy. Massalia, Ceosceo, and Cyprilium are rooted to the bottom of the table and are vigourously fighting it out to ensure they are not on the bottom come round twenty six.

What an astonishing six rounds! Despite being written off just six rounds ago, Rhohdah has responded with a six game undefeated streak, winning all their games with the exception of a lucky draw for Asylcut & Cluwes. With two rounds remaining, any of six teams are still in with a chance, showing the competitive and balanced nature of the league. A miracle is required to save Cyprilium from the indignation of being the first club to be awarded the SCCPL Premier Division wooden spoon.

An exciting pentultimate round to the SCCPL. The top of the table clash between Rhohdah and Indica resulted in a 1-1 draw, both goals coming from set pieces. This has left the final round as the round which will decide the premiership, as Lilter remains in contention with a strong 4-0 victory over Invictus, ending their title hopes for this year.

After a thrilling final round, Lilter United are crowned champions of the inaurgural SCCPL! A strong 2-0 win over contenders Indica away from home saw Lilter raise the cup in their rivals territory. Lilter scored early and never looked in danger, with a suprisingly lacklustre Indica conceding a second goal early in the second half which broke any hopes they held on to. They continued to challenge for the game but were unconvincing on the ball and were unable to breakdown the formidable Lilter defence. Strong sentiments from the home crowd boiled over into a potential riot which was quickly quelled by local police forces, and players evacuated after projectiles were thrown onto the field.
After such a promising turnaround mid season from a string of losses, Rhohdah looked certain to lift the trophy after facing Ceosceo in the final round, and indeed looked set to be champions leading 1-0 from the 7th minute. Squandering of chances in front of goal kept Ceosceo in the match, and they were only too happy to ruin Rhohdah’s day with an 82nd minute screamer from captain Alec Gereardu. Rhohdah, aware of the score in progress at Indica realised they needed another goal to be champions. Ceosceo took advantage of Rhohdahs’ predicament and scored a second goal on the counter attack in the 87th minute. The home team was elated, singing and mocking the Rhohdah fans who had earlier been belittling their teams performance across the season. Rhohdah attacked in numbers in the vain hope of getting not one, but two goals, but time was against them. Players were visibly distraught at the result, as 10 minutes earlier they had looked set to be rewarded for their hard work with a premiership. Reports of damage to the dressing rooms by the Rhohdah players have been received but information on the culprit/s is not forthcoming at this time.

Lilter United crowned inaugural champions of SCCPL Premier Division!

A strong performance at home against Iturributa United secured Lilter United's passage through to the second round. Two goals from Mercier saw the player mark his arrival on the world stage. Th emphatic 4-1 win meant the second leg was a drab affair, with an uninspiring Lilter satisfied with a 1-1 draw.
The second round saw Lilter again dominate their opposition, Cannes Town. Sitting back and seeming to be content on defending, Lilter counter attacked relentlessly and a hat-trick from Mercier won him a man of the match award. Being 4-0 up after their away game, Lilter rested key players for the return fixture, and were still able to secure a 3-2 victory, winning 7-2 on aggregate. Benoit Dechesne was full of praise for his side across both legs, especially Yuill's performance in obtaining a clean sheet away from home.
Lilter entered the third round full of confidence and momentum after their early round victories. In the first leg at home against Mort Park, Lilter looked to continue this trend, with a driven shot from outside the box by Lafontaine just before half time. The second half was a hotly contested affair, with Lilter managing to just hang on to the victory. However, any sweetness was turned sour by a knock to star striker Mercier in the second half, which would make him unavailable for the away leg. Compounding this was a strain during warm up to Yuill, resulting in backup keeper Bonnin making his debut at this level for the all important fixture away from home. Despite starting well, Lilter conceded a goal after good build up play from Mort Park. A second goal early in the second half saw Lilter have to push forward, but just could not create chances in front of goal. A third goal in the 76th minute all but sealed their fate. Whilst the loss was not solely down to the replacement keeper, the solid presence of starting keeper and team captain, Yuill, was sorely missed. Benoit Dechesne congratulated his opposite number after the match for simply outclassing his team.

International Team - 'Les Cynos'

Postby Southern Cynocephali » Sun May 29, 2011 10:23 pm

International Team
Selections

As the first season of the SCCPL drew to a close, an international team was established to allow the nation to compete in international competitions. After a lengthy selection process, Napoleone F. Ramolino, brother of President F.N. Ramolino was chosen as the inaugural manager of the team, to be known colloquially as 'Les Cynos'.
Following the conclusion of the TQCC and GC competitions, 25 players were selected for trials at Waspcroft Stadium in Indica. After three days of competitive training, the newly appointed manager announced his team to a press conference.
Whilst still untested at the international level, Ramolino believes the team has some future potential and will use the first international competitions as a means of exposing the young squad to international football.

A handsome man in his thirties enters the press room, immaculately dressed in a navy suit with an orange tie. Glancing across the room of reporters and cameras, he strides across the soft cream carpet with an air of confidence. Pulling out a chair from behind the long table decorated in national colours, he sits down behind a name plaque reading 'Mgr - Ramolino' before once again casting his eyes across the room. He smiles warmly before pulling out a paper from his breast pocket, and as he does so, the noise of chatter dies as all the attention is focused on him. Adjusting the paper on the desk in front of him, he begins to speak confidently;

"Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. As you are no doubt aware, I have called this press conference to announce the players in the first national football team to play for Southern Cynocephali. This team has been picked with an eye to the future, and whilst our forays into the world stage will undoubtedly mark our nation on the international map, I do not expect that we will meet success from the start. There are many nations with a fine football pedigree built upon generations of players, and we are some way off from their mark. However, I am confident that this team will gain valuable experience that will enable us to one day challenge the giants of world football."
The clicking of cameras can be heard as Ramolino pauses, looks across the room, then continues
"To the team; from Lilter United, champions of the inaugural season of the SCCPL, and who performed valiantly at the TCQQ with a couple of impressive victories, we have; Arron Yuill, in Goals. Arron is a tremendous goalkeeper who will also be Captain of this inaugural side. Also selected from Lilter are; defenders Neville Kluka and Dion Jantot, midfielder Roscoe Reidenbach and striker Gauvain Mercier. From Indica United, are defender Gildas Mancion, midfielder Francois Zezima and striker Emery Bugay. Despite their clubs' poor season, these players impressed throughout the season and the trials. From AFC Rhohdah, we have defenders Sterling Greynold, Dominique Carlton and Erik Kneip, midfielder Sal Lazzara as well as goalkeeper Stephen Mahoney. Sterling Greynold has been appointed Vice-Captain. From Isereliet Invictus we have selected promising young midfielders, C.R. Cangelosi and Gauvain Royer. And to complete the squad we have Yong Schweiss and Damian Plambeck from Seiya, and Deangelo Cleo Barrasa and Randell Broten from Port Milne. This is the national squad that will participate throughout qualifying, barring injury or suspension.
Thankyou ladies and gentlemen. I will now take your questions."

Mr Ramolino, who selected the team? Was it purely yourself?
"Whilst I do have the final say in the squad, I do involve my staff to ensure that I have the best information I can. I rely on them to provide me with insights into players I would otherwise not have gotten. It is most definitely a consultative process, but I am the one responsible for the ultimate performance of the team, so I do have the final say."
What do you say to those who criticize your lack of experience at this level?
"People are entitled to their opinions. I am not going to sit here and justify my selection, that is not the purpose of this conference. This is for questions relating to the team selections."
So you deny it was the fact your brother is President that you were given this position, or was it on merit?
"As I said I am not going to discuss this matter at this time. Next question."
Mr Ramolino, why do you seem so pessimistic about our chances at qualifying?
"I am just trying to be realistic. We have only just formed this team and many of our players have only limited inter-competition
experience. To have any lofty ambitions at this stage would just be foolish. We plan to prepare well, and see how we perform at an international level, so we can enhance the football program of this nation in future"
So, does that mean you're not going to try and win?
"I didn't say that at all. We will play to the best of our abilities and that will enable us to see where we are in the international sphere. Thankyou ladies and gentlemen, I must regretfully leave to attend to team duties. I thank you all for attending today"

Napoleone Ramolino pushed back in his chair, opening his jacket pocket and pulling out his phone as he began striding purposefully toward the heavy wooden door across the room. The clicking of cameras and the disappointed grumbles of the press gallery accompanied him as he swung open the door and left the room.

Following the successful launch of the SCCPL the ruling body in charge of the new league, the SCPA, decided to launch a cup competition to run prior to each new league season. This cup would enable teams in the SCCPL to prepare for the upcoming season, as well as expose smaller clubs not in the regular league to a wider audience. The performance of these teams in the League Cup will be watched closely by the SCPA to determine the viability of launching a second division of the SCCPL.

The cup is played at stadiums across the nation, on neutral ground, with the final alternating between the stadiums in Lilter and Indica.

SCCPL Season 2

Season 2

Pre-Season Press Conference - Notable Comments
(In attendance were Théodore Simard, Manager of Indica United, Benoit Dechesne, Manager of Lilter United, and the newly acquired manager for Port Milne, Axkess Nahmeput.)

"Monsieur Dechesne, how have your preseason preparations been? Do you feel your squad is ready for the season ahead and to defend their title?"
BD: We have prepared well. The whole squad came back into training with enthusiasm despite our losses in the interclub competitions. The wins we acheived at that level have spurred us on throughout the preseason and the squad is determined to get another chance this year.
"How do you feel about the talk of expansion to 39 games next year?"
BD: You know as well as I do, that my opposition to this proposal has been vocal. The proposed provisions to deal with the comparable advantage some teams will have over others by having an additional home fixture are inadequate.

"Monsieur Simard, do you feel that your team can improve on last years result? Your squad is largely unchanged, why do you think this year will be different?"
TS: Look, I'll be honest. Last year was disappointing for the whole club, especially the way we finished the season. We feel confident in the squad that we have, and that we have learnt from last year and will look to move forward with what we have learnt.
"The appointment of Napoleone Ramolino as international manager has been met with criticism. Would you like to comment on his appointment which some say was influenced by his father?"
TS: No comment, this press conference is about the SCCPL, not the international team.

"Monsieur Nahmeput, welcome to the league. How do you rate your chances this year? There has been a lot of speculation that the result last year was, well, a fluke, and that your team will likely drop back down into mid table anonymity. Do you feel you can emulate last years successes?"
AN: We possess a lot of talent at the club, and last year we showed that. Yes, I am confident we can assert our position near the top and challenge for the title.
"Do you think that is realistic? That Port Milne could challenge the established three?"
AN: I don't see why not. I am going to look to exploit the talent of the young squad, and as you saw last year, when they are playing with confidence, then it is possible.

Indica United have been the standout performer of the first third of the season, winning all their games up to this point. They were particularly impressive at home against visiting Port Milne, however they are yet to face their rivals, Lilter United. Lilter themselves have been strong, however did suffer a defeat at the hands of fourth placed Lampsacus, courtesy of a controversial red card decision by the match referee.

Port Milne have been performing for their new manager, however they will be disappointed in a 4-3 loss to Kerberos, after leading 2-0 at half time, which sees them beginning to fall off the pace. A.F.C Rhohdah has had a poor start to the competition, reminiscent of their stretches of poor form last season. Time will only tell if they can find a remedy as they did last year, however the win by Kerberos over Port Milne has seen them drop down into an area of the table which will disappoint their passionate fans.

Brienne and Timaeus-Critias are the only teams that have not tasted victory after nine rounds. Timaeus-Critias have been struck by injury of late, with both their captain, left-back Gregorio Vanderschoot and the promising young attacking midfielder, Nick Ollie Hilfiker, out indefinitely. Both goals scored by Timaeus-Critias have come from set pieces, otherwise they have been notable for their lackluster free-form attacking play and poor finishing.

After eighteen rounds, the race for this years championship seems to be down to a two way fight between Lilter and Indica. Despite their strong start of ten straight victories, Indica United crashed back to reality with a couple of unimpressive draws followed by a loss to rivals Lilter. Now tied on points, the remaining nine games of the season should see a tight battle between the two major clubs.

Isereliet and Port Milne seem to have locked up third and fourth place respectively, with A.F.C Rhohdah surprisingly eight points off a Globe Cup position. There are reports that Rhohdah manager Daniel Verdier is under pressure from management to turn things around at the club, and that he has lost the confidence of the squad. The season continues to be a disaster for Timaeus-Critias, who still remain winless after eighteen rounds.

Rounds nineteen and twenty saw dour performances from Lilter United, held to a draw by Brienne, then defeated surprisingly easily by Lampsacus on a wet afternoon away from home. Indica asserted their position with two victories in these rounds, including a 7-1 thrashing of Cyprilium Town, which included doubles from both Jacques Lachance and Emery Bugay. This stunning performance may explain the uninspired performance against Timaeus-Critias the following week, which saw the bottom feeders somehow hold on for a draw. Manager Théodore Simard remarked after the game that the players seemed to be expecting a winning goal rather than working for it, after conceding in poor fashion to a corner just before the break.

A.F.C Rhohdah has recently turned things around with a three match winning streak, earning manager Verdier a stay of execution for the time being. With only four rounds remaining Rhohdah have revived their, albeit somewhat slim, chances of a Globe Cup spot, with the unpredictable Isereliet five points ahead. The championship could still go to either Indica or Lilter, with Indica holding a slim lead; neutral fans can only hope that like last year, it will come down to the last matchday for the winner to be decided.

What an astonishing conclusion to the season once again. After 22 rounds, Indica United had a three point lead, with many pundits expecting them to finish the season strongly and win their first title. Round 23 saw Indica draw 3-3 with Lampsacus, letting in a soft late equaliser to only take one point from the fixture. Lilter United took all three points against Port Milne, narrowing the gap at the top to only one point. A.F.C Rhohdah looked to have helped Indica to the premiership with their victory over Lilter in round 24, but then they followed it by a victory over Indica the following week, leaving the title wide open going into the final round.

The championship came down to the final round for the second year running, with Indica United hosting Lilter United at Waspcroft stadium. The buildup throughout the week was intense, and there was an air of optimism in Indica prior to kickoff. In a thrilling encounter, Lilter United went ahead with two early goals, however the hosts hit back shortly after hafltime. They looked to have tied it up when a goal in the 66th minute was disallowed for offside, and replays showed the error from the linesman. Lilter United's fans began celebrating from the 85th minute, with their singing filling the stadium which was devoid of any noise from the home fans. A late penalty to Indica gave them the opportunity to tie the game, however a brilliant save from Yuill forced the ball onto the post and out for a corner. The visitors hung on and after the ceremony, lifted their second championship trophy in as many years in front of a mostly empty Waspcroft Stadium.

Despite a strong finish from A.F.C Rhohdah with wins over both of the title challengers, Port Milne and Isereliet Invictus were able to hold on to 3rd and 4th places respectively, earning a birth in the upcoming Globe Cup. Port Milne performed above expectations this year once again, a result which will undoubtedly please their new manager.
Timaeus-Critias, despite an unlikely win in the last four rounds, could not overcome their early season deficit, and just finished on the bottom of the table, below Ceosceo.

After a solid display away from home which earnt them their first international victory, 'Les Cynos' backed up their performance in the return fixture at home. In what was at times quite a physical match, the Stachland team came out firing early after their disappointing performance at home. Arron Yuill was called into action several times quite early, making an impressive save from a corner in the tenth minute. Despite holding valiantly under sustained pressure, the hosts went down a goal in the 30th minute. Stachland continued to press for a second, and Les Cynos were lucky not to conceed a second before the break.

The half time break and talk from manager Ramolino certainly did wonders, as did the half time injection of Yong Schweiss, from Seiya F.C. The team played a completely different second half, with the visiting team struggling to contain Schweiss around the edge of the box. Schweiss was unlucky not to put Les Cynos back into the game only five minutes into the half, his powerful outside foot shot from 30 yards clattering off the post. His passing however was the difference, first setting up Mercier to slot it past the keeper, then less than ten minutes later, a smart one-two with Bugay saw the striker score his first international goal, from the edge of the area.

The team was visibly elated after the game, and these performances will no doubt give the team confidence for their upcoming qualifying fixtures, with manager Ramolino mentioning that there was the possibility of more friendlies in the short term. The performances against Stachland will perhaps silence many of the vocal critics to his appointment as the national manager for the moment.

Transcript from CPL Sunday as featured on Channel 11:

Straight from their performance at the Twelfth Aeropag Football Invitational, Andre Tulare stopped Lilter United's captain and goalkeeper Arron Yuill, young midfielder Roscoe Reidenbach, and the prolific striker Gauvain Mercier, fresh off the plane for a quick chat:
(AT: Andre Tulare, AY: Arron Yuill, RR: Roscoe Reidenbach, GM: Gauvain Mercier)

AT: Arron, how do you feel about your team's performance in the recent invitational?
AY: I think it was a remarkable effort from the whole squad. Nobody rated us from the start, and we almost upset one of the favourites, TakilQuip Champions’ Cup 31 champion, Yuba United in the opening round. We certainly surprised them and gave them a good challenge. The lads showed they can perform on this stage, and that the future looks bright for the club.

AT: You downed the hosts late in the competition in a penalty shoot-out, with you making an important save. What was going through your mind at that moment?
AY: Honestly, I can't remember much except the noise. I thought the crowd were going to burst my eardrums. I just reacted to the strike, and when I felt my fingertips reach the ball, I knew I had pushed it wide. Then I certainly knew what the crowd thought!

AT: What do you say to reports in recent weeks that you will be moving to another club? Do you feel there is anything left to achieve in the SCCPL or would you be better off moving abroad?
AY: Of course there are things to achieve. We may have won back to back titles, but I want to take Lilter United to success on a larger stage. This club is my passion, and I don't have any plans to move elsewhere. I'm contracted to Lilter for the next two years, and I want to stay with the great bunch of guys we have here. After that, who knows? There are too many things to think about between now and then.

AT: Indeed. The World Cup qualifying will be underway soon, and all three of you are in the national team. Do you feel that you will burn out by not having the same break as most of the players in the league?
AY: I haven't had too much trouble backing up to be honest. The club and national team staff are great at managing our activities to minimise fatigue and stress.
RR: The advantage of experience we gain from the World Cup will be invaluable for our future club matches, both inter-competition and domestic. We might be sore for a few days, but I think we should pull up fine.
GM: I agree with the lads. The World Cup qualifying is a great opportunity to test ourselves on the world stage, and find form to carry over into the club matches.

AT: Roscoe, you and Gauvain have developed quite a partnership, with you responsible for three assists of the four goals scored by Gauvain at the invitational. Is this something you have worked on or has it developed naturally?
RR: We both live together, and go to training together, and yeah, at home we practice together at times as well. It may have evolved naturally from that, I don't really know. But, I think our friendship has transferred to our partnership on the pitch, as we seem to instinctively know what each other will do.
GM: We do practice a lot separately when we are at home, which I think is the difference. To be honest, after two years we have become very close, and I consider Roscoe to be like a brother. I hope we can continue to play at the same club for a long time.

AT: Gauvain, you didn't play in the last game of the invitational. Why was that?
GM: The coaching staff decided to rest me for the match, due to a groin strain. They said I should be ok in a few weeks.

AT: Do you feel you will be able to carry on scoring once you return? More importantly, that's the third time this season you have had trouble with your groin isn't it? Is that a concern?
GM: We have access to the finest medical staff here at Lilter, and they have assured me it is not a long term issue. I think I've just been unlucky. I hope my scoring run can continue; I need to be fit, but so long as the team keeps on playing as a unit, the chances will come. I just have to keep finishing them.

AT: How do you see the club performing in the next round of domestic competitions, the SCPA, then the SCCPL?
AY: I hope we can win the cup to complete the double. We have a good chance.
GM: And hopefully go on to win the next season for the hat-trick. That would be something special.
RR: We can do it, but I think Indica United will be quite upset at the way we beat them in Indica for the title on the last matchday.
    GM: Again.
RR: Yes, again! *laughter from all three guests*

AT: And Rhohdah will surely be out to defend their cup?
AY: Undoubtedly, although they did look off the mark this year. Isereliet Invictus will be a strong challenger, and with Port Milne backing up on last year's league position, they have a realistic chance too.
GM: Hopefully for the fans we can see a Lilter and Indica final.

AT: Will Lilter United be returning to the invitational when it is next held?
AY: I think that's a question for the organisers. Hopefully we performed well enough to be invited back, but we will have to wait and see.
GM: I certainly hope that we are. I think all the lads had a great time, it was a good experience, and helped the team bond very well.
RR: The tournament was very well organised. I hope if we do make a return appearance, that our fans can make an effort to make the trip, it would be great to see the stands coloured red, blue and white!

AT:Thanks a lot guys for taking the time out to chat. You've done your club proud, and I am sure all your fans cannot wait to see you in action again.

SCCPL News Item

Postby Southern Cynocephali » Sun Jun 19, 2011 5:09 pm

*****Press Release*****

Image

A.F.C Rhohdah would like to announce the termination of Daniel Verdier as manager of the club. The board appreciate Mr. Verdier's contributions to the club, and during his tenure he oversaw the successful campaign for the inaugural SCPA Cup.
However, the board felt that the inconsistent form in the league prevented the club from reaching its potential, and a mutual decision was made with Mr. Verdier to terminate his services. The club thanks Mr. Verdier for his contributions and wishes him success in his future employment.

A.F.C Rhohdah also announce the immediate appointment of Simeone Beraldi, on a three year deal. The manager, who recently was sacked by Desportivo Ciudad in the UIG A Liga, (Ocel0t) will take over the reins immediately. The club feels that Mr. Beraldi performed well with the resources allocated to him whilst manager at Desportivo Ciudad, and showed admirable management skills in a team which seemed destined for relegation before the season started. The board believe his experience is what is required to allow the club to challenge for honours in the upcoming season.

Within hours of the appointment of Simeone Beraldi as manager, the board of A.F.C Rhohdah accepted an offer to purchase the club from Daniel L. Mitchell, Duke of Rivercress (Gyflada), for $120,000,000. Management will be transferred to the new owners as quickly as possible, prior to the next season of the SCCPL. The involvement of a powerful figure such as Mr. Mitchell should see the club propelled to new heights in the future, and we have no doubt the sale will be welcomed by the fans and players alike.

Manager:Benoit Dechesne

Benoit Dechesne stretched and settled into his first class seat which groaned softly under his solid frame. He looked out the window as the small jet levelled off at the top of its climb, and thought back to the tournament just completed. It had been a positive experience for the whole team and if he was honest with himself Benoit thought, then he was pleased they had qualified for the group stage, which was well beyond their expectations prior to the tournament. Benoit breathed deeply, and licked his lips at the taste of the artificial atmosphere. There was a niggling feeling in the back of his mind, a what if, that he just could not ignore. They had been outclassed in the group stage by all their opposition, and on the occasions they were able to scrape out a draw, they had been lucky. Benoit could think of at least two occasions in the group stage that his opponents were denied penalties, which were in all fairness due.
It was certain, they needed to expand the quality of the squad if they were to compete at this level. Benoit reached to the small desk in front of him, and slid his portfolio onto his lap. He turned on his small tablet computer, and began to search the database compiled by the clubs scouts. He could see they had already been busy at work, as the first batch of completed reports from the early rounds of the inter-league competitions had begun to trickle through. He noticed that some of the scouts were now on their way to the upcoming international cups, which could provide a look at some potential talent. Taking notes, he began to plot out a major move on the transfer market for the upcoming season.

Season 3

The SCCPL has been expanded for Season 3, making it a 20 team competition. Debates within the SCPA were intense as whether the level of competition would be strong enough, and if splitting the league into two divisions would be best. The decision was made to proceed with a single division, with a review to take place at the completion of the season.

Six new clubs were admitted to the SCCPL; La Maddelena, Meropis, Northern Wastes United, Namtock, Port Crossoix and Locri, expanding the total to 20, for a 38 matchday competition.

TQCC GC

Season 3 concludes with Lilter United lifting the trophy for the third season running. This year it was a close run affair, and any of three teams were in the hunt right up until the final matchday. Lilter only needed a draw against Indica, and were again able to achieve a result on the final matchday, away from home. Port Milne will be kicking themselves for their 1-0 loss in round thirty five, as a draw in that match would have ultimately been enough for the title. Still, all three top finishers can be happy with their seasons as it could have gone any of their ways right until the last moment.

Lilter United will again represent the SCCPL at the TQCC, and will attempt to improve on last season's result. A.F.C Rhohdah returns to grab a Globe Cup spot, rebounding from their failure of last year. The new foreign management and owners would certainly be pleased at the turnaround, and will hope to pressure for a high finish next season. A large gap emerged this season between fourth and fifth positions, ultimately separated by 15 points. This difference in playing level has prompted an off season enquiry into the possibility of splitting the league into two divisions, of 10 teams each, and having each team play each other four times across the season for a total of thirty six matchdays.

The clubs new to the league this season failed to make any significant impressions, with the highest placed among them, Port Crossoix, in ninth. The bottom of the table is filled with the new clubs, enabling some of the previous cellar dwellers to move into mid table obscurity.

With youth academies beginning to reap the rewards of their establishment and nationwide drive a few seasons back, next year promises to be exciting as new blood emerges throughout the SCCPL.

Sal Lazzara Memorial Shield

Image

The SCPA has announced the creation of the Sal Lazzara Memorial Shield, to honour the player who met a tragic end during the Baptism of Fire Forty Three. The friendly trophy will be played between Kagdazka and Pazhujebu vs. Southern Cynocephali, in the nation where Sal Lazzara met his untimely end.

The shield was hand crafted in the southern region surrounding Lilter, known for it's fine hand-crafted glass. The trophy bears the inscription 'In Memory 1989-2011', listing the short years of Sal Lazzara's life. The trophy also bears Lazzara's number, 26, which has been retired by the international team.

The trophy will be presented to the winning team after the friendly for photo opportunities, however will return home and remain on display at the Cynocephalian Sports Museum, in Indica, Southern Cynocephali, alongside Sal Lazzara's international jersey.
Kagdazka and Pazhujebu 4 - 1 Southern Cynocephali

Season 4 - Pre Season Statement

The SCCPL is proud to unveil the new logo for the league (above), which was designed by students at Indica National University. We are pleased to announce the following:

-Northern Wastes United suffered disastrous financial issues in their induction season, poor marketing combined with low turnouts due to high ticket prices caused the club to become financially insolvent after the season. Rescued by a local businessman from Leben, Bernares Delaponte, the club was renamed after its home city and enters the league in place of the defunct NWU.

-Following last years' expansion of the league to twenty teams, there has been widespread concern about the difference in quality between the top and bottom clubs. As a result, for Season 4, the SCPA has decided to split the competition into two divisions; Championship Division and Division One. Entry will be based on the league table for last season, which will see the following split:

Championship Division
Lilter United
Port Milne
Indica United
A.F.C Rhohdah
Isereliet Invictas
Seiya
Brienne
Kerberos
Port Crossoix
Asylcut & Cluwes

Division One
Lampsacus
La Maddelena
Locri
Cyprilium Town
Massalia
Meropis
Timaeus-Critias
Ceosceo
Namtock
Leben

Each season the bottom placed team from the Championship Division will be relegated to Division One, and replaced by with winner of Division One. Throughout the season each team will play the other teams in their division a total of four times, twice at home and twice away. The total number of matchdays will therefore decrease, from 38 last season, to 36 in Season 4.

Season 4

Season 4

The preseason for the newly formed SCCPL was full of transfer action, with many clubs drastically changing their line ups in the wake of the international competitions. Several national team players, stars such as Yuill, Mercier and Zezima, moved overseas to ply their trade in more competitive leagues.

Teams have begun to replace that talent with some signings from abroad, but mainly through the developing national youth system. The most notable import would have to be RB Jahat Chahachim, from Kagdazka and Pazhujebu. Signing for Indica United for what is rumoured to be an astronomically large fee, he will draw fans from all clubs to watch the superstar ply his trade. The division of the league into two divisions has seen many of the top players move to clubs in the top division, resulting in the lower division clubs becoming increasingly youth oriented.

This season has been hotly anticipated by the fans, who cannot wait to see the newly styled league in action. We expect a close run thing this year, not to say it hasn't been in the past; but there should be a smaller gap from the top four to the rest of the field. Lilter United, in the wake of losing several established stars, will require a superhuman performance to make it four titles in a row. Port Milne, Indica United are both considered to be the best chances for the title this year, although Isereliet and A.F.C Rhohdah also have the potential to take home the crown.

A third of the way into the season and Lilter United once again look to be the team to beat. They have raced out to a four point lead, which could have been more if not for their 2-1 defeat to Indica United, their only so far this year. Indica and Port Milne are nipping at their heels, and after a few good results Kerberos find themselves in fourth. Most don't expect to see them stay there for long, as Rhohdah and Isereliet look to turn around their slow starts. At the bottom Port Crossoix, who surprised many pundits last year with their 9th place finish in their inaugural year, remain without a win and already four points off their closest rival.

With twelve matches remaining, the season has revealed itself as a fight between giants Lilter and Indica. Despite a good start, Port Milne has fallen off the pace and now find themselves eleven points off the lead - surely too big of a gap to close now. Their dreams of improving on last year's second place look to be over for this season. Isereliet and Rhohdah have rallied to climb back to usual territory. Despite their strong start, Kerberos have been unable to continue their early form and slip down into sixth. Port Crossoix managed to find their first win, however were also on the end of a 7-0 lashing from Port Milne. Brienne are much closer to the bottom than many expected pre-season and will be trying to close the gap to the middle of the table as the season concludes.

A tight season is emerging in Division One, with the level of competition looking extremely close. With matches coming down to the better side on the day, only four points splits the top four teams in the division. Leben are the surprise failures so far, despite being a new club they were expected to possibly challenge for a top half finish. However, the Northern Cynocephalian club could quickly remedy their last place situation with a few wins, given the closeness of the table above them.

Two-thirds of the way through the season and Timaeus-Critias look the team to beat this year. Despite increased crowds from the tenure as Rushmori Capital of Culture, La Maddelena has been unable to capitalise and languish in the middle. Leben still find themselves rooted to the bottom, which will severely disappoint the new owners. Ceosceo, Cyprilium and even Namtock will all be happy with their seasons so far, as they look to strengthen their clubs for a run at promotion.

A thrilling close to the season sees Indica United emerge as champions for Season 4. Holding past champions Lilter United to a draw in Indica on the last day saw them fall to third behind Port Milne, courtesy of their 3-0 win over relegated Port Crossoix. An unhappy year for the newest club in the top flight, Port Crossoix now head down to Division One and will try and claw their way back up as soon as possible. Another tight race for the last inter-league competition spot finished with Isereliet taking the place, ensuring that Rhohdah was left languishing in fifth.

Indica can thank Jahat Chahachim who transferred in at the start of the year from Kagdazka and Pazhujebu for their glory this year - the international defender was influential across the park, and showed he can even play in a right midfield role. A fan favourite before the season even reached its mid point, his performances sparked the latent talent in the Indican squad to life. A screamer of a goal against Rhohdah from well outside the box proved not only the winner of the match, but also the highlight of the year. Port Milne will be disappointed with their runner up position for the second year running, and will rue lost chances which ultimately cost them the title.

A close season in which a team's position on the table did little to account for match results came to a conclusion with dual city club Timaeus-Critias earning promotion to the top division. They, alongside a higher than expected finishing Cyprilium Town, Rushmori Capital of Culture hosts who were buoyed by increased attendances at their games and Massalia will all represent the SCCPL at the Series B Champions’ Cup; the first time teams from the league have entered the competition. Leben were unlucky to finish bottom, but the new owners have already confirmed better than expected financial results at the end of the first season, so they should stay in the league and not go the way of NWU.

Due to the increased level of interest in soccer in our nation which despite the number one status of the sport is still attracting legions of new fans, discussions at the SCPA have revolved around bringing yet more teams, such as the non-league teams, into the competition. This has officially been ruled out for season 5, although has not been taken off the table permanently.

Indica United have started the season strongly with Jahat Chahachim picking up where he left off last season, the team capitalising on the Pazhujebi being in award winning form. Chahachim has been employed by manager Théodore Simard in a RWB role, and he has proved dangerous in both attack and defence so far this season. As a result Indica have only lost once this season - at home to Port Milne. The match was an absolute thriller, with Indica just going down 2-3 to Port Milne thanks to a late winner from the Tamarindian import, Kwesi Ferrer.

Despite beating the league leaders, Port Milne have been largely disappointing, and the goal from Ferrer was only his second for the season. Perhaps suffering from overconfidence on occasion, Port Milne have lost to some teams which they had been fancied to beat comfortably. The Citiz manager of the club, Axkess Nahmeput, will be hoping this is not another year where they fall just short; the surprising 2-1 loss to Kerberos may come back to haunt the team later in the season. Deangelo Cleo Barrasa, rumoured to be the target of transfer speculation at the start of the season, will be looking to the increasingly experienced squad to help the captain turn their fortunes around and make season 205 AC their season.

The newly signed goalkeeper, Polarian Henning Aalbhorg, has had a lukewarm start to his career at Isereliet Invictus. The team finds themselves in seventh, although have been on the wrong end of a few tight matches. If the team can find some way to at least pick up a point in those tight matches, they could turn their season around quickly. Aalbhorg has been entrusted the number one jersey so far by manager Arsène Arnoux (after edging out the incumbent in training), although both manager and player will need to work to rectify the in-play communication/organisational problems Aalbhorg seems to be having with his defenders - most of the goals the team has conceeded so far fairly lie with the back four rather than the man in goal.

Newly promoted Timaeus-Critias have surprised a few teams so far, and find themselves with three wins already - one more than relegated Port Crossoix managed all season during last year's stint in the top flight. The capture of the Chenkoryan, Christopher Fodunnet, has certainly helped the teams chances of avoiding relegation, as has Brienne's poor start to the season. Fodunnet has performed well, if not a little inconsistently, and emerged with a man of the match award after the 2-1 victory Isereliet Invictus, where the keeper saved two penalties in seven minutes to record the unexpected victory. In the best example of his inconsistency, Fodunnet was (perhaps unfortunately) red carded the following week against A.F.C Rhohdah for contact against Gilberto Muñoz at a corner, and went on to miss the high profile clash hosting Lilter at home (which the team ultimately lost 2-0).

Three time champions, Lilter United, have looked more settled in midfield with the aquisition of another player from Polar Islandstates, Arnur Jarntur. The experienced midfielder has played a holding role behind Yong Schweiss, and the two have complimented each other nicely. The experience of a player of Jarntur's character will hopefully have a great influence on Schweiss, whose knocks on the door of the international first team are getting louder every week. Jarntur suffered a minor calf strain early on in the season (wk 3) and missed three matches, returning strongly in the 2-0 victory over Port Milne to create the first goal of the match. So after a third of the season the top four are only split by three points and the season is shaping up to be another tight one.

Two thirds of the season complete and Indica United hold a tenuous one point lead at the top of the table. Port Milne continue to look like this may be their year, courtesy of a series of strong performances from Hallvarð Friðfinnursson. The defender, from Bleak Rock, has been physically dominating the defence for Port Milne, and has provided excellent support to the attackers. Unfortunately it seems that his excellent first season in the league, and the associated plaudits in the press, may be going to his head as he has reportedly been seen around Port Milne in the company of Andrina Robillard, a member of local girl group TGND. If the association between the pair (which they have not even confirmed exists) does not affect his football then club manager Axkess Nahmeput will probably not mind, but if it does? Hopefully the new recruit manages to perform both on and off the pitch to keep all parties happy.

Seiya have been the surprise packet this season, currently in third after twenty four of thirty six games. They are perhaps demonstrating the growing level of local talent; as a club with only local born players they are competing with the biggest clubs in the land and punching well above their weight. Whether they can continue this form is uncertain, with many of the squad lacking experience.

Lilter United will perhaps be scratching their heads at the moment as to why they find themselves off the pace. Admittedly only trailing slightly, they have come under fire from their own fans for their inconsistency which has cost them vital points this season. Isereliet Invictus also find themselves off the pace, continuing to lose points in close matches which would see them sitting higher had they been able to get a result. Relegation almost seems certain for newly promoted Timaeus-Critias; despite some valiant performances the lack of widespread talent in the squad has been obvious at times, although their new acquisition in goal may attract attention from better clubs should the team go down, given his capable performances in the losing team.
