Tamarindia's Roster

Postby The Golden Tamarind » Sat Aug 06, 2011 5:01 am

A team from the Academy of International Relations will represent Tamarindia at the Gregory Cup.

Lockey is not known in Tamarindia at all, apart from a select group of enthusiasts at the Academy for International Relations in Libertad. Here people study for careers in the diplomatic service, the international Units, and other trades relating to the wider world. Fernando Durán, Head of the Experimental Sports department, which means sports not played in Tamarindia, has put together a team of interested players from his department to represent the Tamarindies at the Gregory Cup in Alfabetostuk.

Image

Coach: Fernando Durán, 35
Head of Experimental Sports. A former professional footballer who played for AIR Libertad. Retains a healthy scepticism for experimental sports whilst excelling at pretty much any that he tries out. If he'd started twenty years earlier, could've been an international lockey sensation.

Assitant: Hugo Caillett 43
Lecturer in Experimental Sports. Loves Babbage Rules Football, and is head coach of the Babbage team. As a senior lecturer in Experimental Sports he also has interests in Lockey, Korfball, Quidditch, and the strangest of them all, American Football.

Assistant: Alfredo de Torrente 64
Professor of Experimental Sports. A former professional footballer who played for Unión Libertad. Feels that if he'd started forty years earlier, could've been an international lockey sensation.

The team roster is all made up of final year degree students who are doing their thesis on lockey, and this trip counts as one unit, so you could say their degrees are riding on a good showing.

Keeper: Victor Chacón, 22. Personality/playing style - Flaky. Easily dispirited when things inevitably go wrong.
Sweeper: Jorge de León, 21. Personality/playing style - Resilient. Not easily dispirited when things inevitably go wrong.
Left Fullback: Roy Valverde, 20. Personality/playing style - Eccentric. From the sublime to the ridiculous.
Right Fullback: Thomas Corre, 21. Personality/playing style - Professor. Knows the game of lockey inside out - but only theoretically.
Rover: Kendall Rodríguez, 22. Personality/playing style - Determined. Will get his degree at all costs. Including the opposition.
Left Winger: Clement Fontaine, 22. Personality/playing style - Disinterested. Gifted and frustrating, could be a star, but probably won't.
Right Winger: Jair Sánchez, 22. Personality/playing style - Professor. Knows the game of lockey inside out - but only theoretically.
Attacker: Joel Rivera, 23. Personality/playing style - Athletic. Another word for thin and gymnastic.

Reserve

Keeper: Alain Cazes, 22. Personality/playing style - Brave. Fear will save your life, but courage will get you killed.
Sweeper: Ricardo Salvídar, 21. Personality/playing style - Extrovert. Every Tamarindo is a party animal, but some are more animal than others.
Left Fullback: Mathieu Lebourg, 20. Personality/playing style - Ambitious. Annoyingly competitive with his own team-mates.
Right Fullback: Etienne Papillion, 23. Personality/playing style - Lazy. Considers it a failure if he breaks sweat.
Rover: Michael Rodríguez, 22. Personality/playing style - Laid back. Kick him, hit him, verbally abuse him. No problem.
Left Winger: Alvaro Vergara, 21. Personality/playing style - Extrovert. Is everybody's friend and responsible for team moral. Plays the ukelele.
Right Winger: Olivier Maysonnave, 20. Personality/playing style - Creative. Every play a work of art, but not all art is widely appreciated. Or understood.
Attacker: César Mendieta, 20. Personality/playing style - Unpredictable. Hard to defend against, hard to play with, hard to understand, hard to get on with.

Double Booking

Postby The Golden Tamarind » Mon Aug 08, 2011 2:14 am

James Mission International Airport
Cuidad Misión, Tamarindia

Departure Gate 18
- for flight AB4526 to Swift City, Alfabetostuk

The PA announced that a Señor Jorge de León was required to come to the information desk urgently.

It must be about the coaches.

At the information desk, the nice lady from the Tamar Airport Authority asked Jorge to kindly accompany her to Departure Gate 21. As he approached, he could see Coach Durán with Hugo Caillett and Professor de Torrente. Well, that was a relief. The irony of it – the management had gone to the wrong gate, when all the players had managed to get to the right one, on time and raring to go. There was a lockey tournament to lose and they didn't want to miss a heartbeat.

Ω

Jorge was pale when he got back to the team at Gate 18.

“They're not coming.”

Victor Chacón moaned with audible horror. "Then we are not going? We've already conceded?"

“We're going. On our own.”

Ricardo Salvídar could see an extended party coming. “No bosses? I can see a party coming! An extended one.”

César Mendieta surprised everyone with his positivity. “Well this is just great.”

“I am team captain. Kendall here is vice captain.”

Victor Chacón needed reassuring. “But the hotels, the transportation. Who knows anything about the Alfabetos? And what about tactics?”

“Thomas and Jair have the theoretical grasp – they'll do tacticts -”

Thomas Corre and Jair Sánchez protested their practical inexperience. “But -”

“And a Specialist from the Academy, his name is Duzant, will take care of all the arranging. He's already in ABK waiting for us. He's 'secured' it, Coach Durán says.”

Roy Valverde had questions. “But why aren't the coaches coming?”

“They are going to The Babbage Islands for the Mcleod Cup. Double booking. They didn't realise till they got here.”

César Mendieta continued to be surprisingly positive. “F*@!?!?* great.”

Match Report

ABK dropped its first game to Ruadha today 12-11. The Abdian team played well, however, a late goal proved the difference for Ruadha. Jack Morgan scored 4 times for the ABK team, but it wasn't enough. After the game, he said, "Well, we really tried our best, but we just couldn't get it done. I mean, I don't know." Coach Bow added, "We definitely blew it. We were the better team out there." Coach Bow is rumored to be considering switching regular keeper James Blake with backup Willy Blunt, after a bad performance by Blake in this game. ABK's next game is versus Darmen. Darmen uses a unique formation, which replaces the rover with another attacker, and adds in an offensive sweeper. This formation backfired on them last game, but we will have to see how they do with it versus the host team.

The Gregory Cup Update

Wadomia's lockey club team known as the Warriors traveled to Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuk to compete in the Gregory Cup for Lockey. Wadomia was able to come away with a win against Tamarindia with a score of 10-9. Glenn Pucket was the leading scorer with 5 points.Wadomia will be playing its colony New Wadomia who has also entered the tournament under the same group. Lockey is a very unknown sport in Wadomia. Only a few clubs know how to play it. It was lucky we even found a group that could compete.

Good Luck to Wadomia in the game of Lockey!

Match Report

ABK won its first game today, over Darmen 12-11. The game started off badly, with Darmen leading at the half 7-5. however, ABK was able to put it together and win. Jack Morgan led the Abdian team in scoring once again, with one spectacular goal in which he played the ball of the boards and back to himself to score. Anthony Dustin led Darmen with 3 goals. I think the reason ABK started off slowly, was because they had to get used to Darmen's strange formation. However, they were able to exploit its weaknesses in the second half.

The Long Distance Phone Call

Postby The Golden Tamarind » Wed Aug 10, 2011 6:56 am

Hotel Alfabetorama
Swift City, ABK

Jorge de León got off the phone from his long distance call to the Babbage Islands. The team were gathered around, keen to hear news from Coach Durán who had been double-booked and decided to go to the Mcleod Cup instead of the Gregory Cup. So far their tour had not been a success, with two defeats in the experimental sport of Lockey and one more defeat likely to make it impossible for them to qualify for the next stage. Lockey theoreticians Thomas Corre and Jair Sánchez had been unable to mastermind much of a tactic that actually worked in real play so Jorge had put a call in to Coach Durán for some advice.

“He says without being here it's difficult to be sure of the right advice, but he has described a tactic to me that they have used in Babbalo, and he thinks it will translate into Lockey.”

Roy Valverde had questions. “How so? What is it? Can you demonstrate?”

“It's called the Lickety Spit Double Quick Flip.”

There was a long pause, before Alvaro Vergara laughed raucously and, perhaps, reassuringly. “The lockerby what?”

“Lickety Spit Double Quick Flip.”

Roy Valverde had more questions. “Is it working for them over there?”

There was another long pause.

“Not really, no.”

César Mendieta remained surprisingly positive. “F*@!?!?* genius.”

Gregory Cup Update (WSN)

Wadomia's Lockey Club Team played their third match game today. This telegram sadly comes with bad news. The team was unable to come away with a victory against Tamarindia, who Wadomia beat in the first Matchday. The final score of the game was Tamarindia 9, Wadomia 8. Glenn Pucket went ahead and scored seven of the eight points, and put up a great performance. Wadomia has proven themselves as a formidable opponent against the other nations, they just need to an almost unbeatable opponent. Good Luck to the Lockey Team from Wadomia!

Darmen Gregory Cup Update
So in another brand new sport not called Babbage Rules, Darmen has tried it's hand at winning. This new sport is Lockey, and the public's reaction to the sport has been mixed. While most sports fans in Darmen haven't quite accepted the sport, those that have accepted it, have done so with passion.

Game Uno-Swinovia 16 over Darmen 12
Darmen quicklyjumped out to a 6 to 1 lead, but Swinovia adjusted it's style of play to better fit the pace of game. Darmen soon became bogged down, as Swinovia used it's defense to force turnovers, and would then counter attack to score. Head Coach Marvin Kay said, "We need to work on starting even faster. If we can catch teams off guard early, and pile up the goals early, we might be able to hang on enough to be able to win the game."

Darmeni Scorers
Schwartz-3, Dustin-3, Hayashi-3, Rodgers-3

Game Dos-ABK 12 over Darmen 11
Darmen held a 7-5 advantage going into the mid game break, but the second half killed Darmen, as they made several key mistakes which cost them the game.

Darmeni Scorers
Dustin-3, Hayashi-2, Rodgers-2, Schwartz-2, Liddell-2

Game Tres-Darmen 10 over Ruadha
Defeating the Group Leaders by six is quite an accomplishment. Apparently Ruadha never adjusted to Darmens wierd formation, and we congragulate them for that.

Gregory Cup Update
Darmen barley lost to Swinovia, 10-9, in Darmens fourth game at the Gregory Cup in ABK. Anthony Dustin played very poorley, scoring only one goal. Darmen had to come from behind in the second half, after the mid way score was 8-2 Swinovia. Darmen made a 7-2 run in the second half, but it was not enough. Darmen now sits in last place of Group A, 6 points behind group leaders Swinovia.

Richard's Paradox

Postby The Golden Tamarind » Fri Aug 12, 2011 3:37 am

Hotel Alfabetorama
Swift City, ABK

César Mendieta was being surprisingly positive. Was his degree flushed down the drain with this poor showing in the Gregory Cup? Well, the tournament was worth one unit of his final degree submission – or 30%. They were undoubtedly coming home after losing three of their first four games. But was it all about results? Surely it was about what they had learned. What had César learned? Well, for a start lockey wasn't as tough as lacrosse. It wasn't as rough as ice hockey. It wasn't as girly as not-on-ice hockey, a sport for girls. What else? Let's see. You pronounce Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuk 'abdia' in the local language. He would never be able to explain why. These aflabetos were a mystery. What else? There seems to be no difference between Wadomia and New Wadomia, except the New Wadomians have cleaner kits and shinier lockey boots. The Chuckios are Darmenicanians in disguise. And it's true what they say back home about those, err, well, the um, you know, about how they um, well... probably won't need to mention that in the essay. Stick to lockey. What else had César learned? The lickety spit double quick flip mostly doesn't work. He could write a proposal on how likely lockey is to catch on back home. How likely? Not very likely. If they'd won... After thinking about it a bit, César was a little bit positive, but a little less positive than before. It was hard to find the positives. He was thinking about this when Alvaro Vergara came into his room.

We're all having a game of Alfabeto Soup, if you want to join us, César. That damn card game they've all become addicted to. César politely declined, explaining that he was thinking about how to rescue his degree after this poor run of results. Alvaro, being generous of spirit, helpful, and in most ways responsible for team morale, abandoned his place at the soup table to cheer up poor César, who was being a little bit positive, but not much. They discussed the situation around the degree. Of course, with no coaches present, they couldn't be assessed on performances. This was a good thing, according to Alvaro. He said that any assessment would have to be based on something called Reflective Presentation. He had to explain it to César who had never heard of the practice. He also said they would take into account Reality Postulation. César had never heard of this either. Finally, they would be looking at how the tournament was Really Played. Which meant considering Roundup Parameters, Reconciled Permutations and Revised Preambulation. It was a complex calculation, said Alvaro, but he wanted to demonstrate. He borrowed Thomas Corre's laptop, and showed him something called the The Gregory Cup-For Lockey (Closed) Everything NS Sports Thread . He then did some calculations using the complex equations, took the Resulting Predeterminant that it came up with, ripped it up and threw it in the bin. Don't you see? César wasn't sure he could see where Alvaro was coming from, but it would explain, you know, them, the ones who do the, ah, well... they all get executed by their corrupt regime if they don't win, apparently. In that situation, who wouldn't, you know, um, do what they do...

Alvaro fetched his ukelele and they invented a lewd and bawdy song about repetitive posting injuries, and sang an old favourite called Bosch The Militia Man, and at the end of it César felt much better. Really Positive, in fact.

Doolally Tap

Postby The Golden Tamarind » Sun Aug 14, 2011 1:20 am

Abdian International Airport
Swift City, Alfabetostuk

Departure Gate 5
- for flight AB4527 to Cuidad Misión, Tamarindia

Specialist Duzant saw the boys of the lockey team onto the plane and wished them well, promising to file a an exemplary report on their conduct and effort during their stay in Alfabetostuk. He did not board with them, claiming to have other business in-country to attend to. He praised them for making his job easy, particularly having come from Mangolana and the national football team who needed a lot of what he described as 'house-keeping'.

César Mendieta was being surprisingly positive. He was looking forward to getting home. He had the subject of his dissertation sorted, inspired by the trip. It would be a study of the future of lockey in Tamarindia. With the two teams who seemed to put the most into the tournament finishing bottom of each group, he could not see how anyone would make sense of the bizarre game. He wondered if, in his conclusion, he could use the expression doolally tap to describe the necessary requirements for taking part in the game.

Gregory Cup Update
Darmen lost in a very close, and low scoring, game to Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuk, 3-4. ABK must've scouted the game very well, as Darmen's offensive attack bogged down in mid field. Dustin scored all 3 goals. In Darmen's last game, a 5-4 scoreline gave Darmen the win over Ruadha. However, the win came to late for it to affect the Group Standings, and Darmen did not qualify for the Semifinals. Dustin and Schwartz scored two goals each, and Liddell added the final goal.

Gregory Cup Update

Wadomia was able to outplay Tamarindia in Matchday Six of the Gregory Cup. Glenn Puckett was the lead scorer of the game. The ending score of the game was 13-3. Wadomia will now be heading to the semi-finals against Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuk, the host of the Gregory Cup. Gonna be a close game. Wadomia also has its colony New Wadomia in the semi-finals. Fans of Lockey would think it would a be a coincidence if they went against each other in the finals game. Good Luck Wadomia
