History
The United Socialist States of Southern Gearria is a country that has achieved its independence through a bitter civil war against what is now the United Republic of Gearria. In so doing, the nation has succeeded in plating communism on the Gearrian continent. After fighting a Second Gearrian War, taking a nuclear strike in the Third, the nation has lost vast swaths of its land to the Confederation of Demphor and the Federal Republic of RandomGuyNation after the conclusion to the Fourth Gearrian War before sustaining a crippling defeat and losing two-thirds of the rest of the country in the Fifth.
Geography
As the name implies, Southern Gearria occupies the southern region of the Gearrian continent. It also has the best farming industry on the continent and is self-reliant in food products. It has the smallest land area and population of the Gearrian nations. It has long, warm summers and short, freezing winters. Snow is a rare event throughout most of the country, but by Statesville and Newport snow falls every winter. Also, rainstorms occur every fall. Most of the country is flat, wide-open farmland.
The country is divided into two States: Statesville State and Steelport State.
Government
There is only one political party, the Socialist Workers' Party. The head of state is the Premier, who is aided by the Politburo, officially known as the Political Bureau of the Socialist Workers' Party. The governmental lawmaking body is the People's Congress, which is largely powerless. The national court is the Office of the Procurator General, which handles the prosecution of all national-level legal cases. Elections are very rare, and generally only offer one candidate, and all economic assets belong to the state. There's a saying that goes, "The food on your plate now belongs to the state."
The Politburo is a group of government and Party officials who advise the Premier and execute his will. Each Politburo member his in charge of his/her own government ministry or state committee. The Premier has unlimited control over the country, but must wage occasional power struggles with the Politburo when the individual Ministers disagree with the Premier's policies.
The Socialist Workers' Party has its own lawmaking body, the Secretariat, of which the Premier is First Secretary. Other Secretary members are either appointed by the First Secretary (As is the case for the Second and Third Secretaries), or appointed by the SWP Party Committee Chairman who is in charge of all Party activities in their place of birth. Like the People's Congress, the Secretariat is largely powerless.
