I was going to reply to this ages ago but didn't get around to it. As far as I'm concerned, whoever runs the SRS rankings can make wholesale decisions about how it's run. It's not a vital part of how things are run.

Chipping in here as one of the previous SRS caretakers: I did put out informal requests for feedback on ideas, and before introducing the SRS+ formula I had a google form poll on my proposed changes and special inductions to the Nation HoF. I don't think it's strictly necessary to ask for these, but I would generally advise them to anyone handling the SRS.

I do remember being skeptical of the idea of keeping 1 point for going out in the Ro32, and thinking it would be more fair to add a point to each round past the group stage since the World Cup is more competitive now. I would love some discussion about this before we do anything too irreversible (we really wouldn't want to end up removing multiple nations' HoF status over a change in formula!)

I don't think the World Cup is any more competitive now (because of the format, at least; RP quality is a separate matter which the SRS+ ranks shouldn't touch upon). The last n teams are still the last n teams. It might actually be worth separating 32-team GS exits from 48-team GS exits, and awarding 1 point for the former and, uh, 6−(ln(48)/ln(2)) for a 48-team GS exit. Half a point also works cause it's close enough. No points also works but feels cruel.

My two cents: half a point is definitely close enough, and given the potential for an expanded field to cause faster burnout or more delays, I’d wager “close enough” might end up working better than “mathematically precise”.

WC71 and WC72 had 160-nation qualifying fields. WC99 had a 150-nation field. We've not had 160 nations in qualifying since WC95. I like to think that 180 nations is the "default" qualifying field as that was how many nations took part in WCQ77 (my first), but in my time as Saint Eleanor, only WC89's 18x10 field and WC93's 15x12 field have hit that high watermark.

My apologies for the double-post, but please note that - due to new, intensive, short-term IRL responsibilities of mine - I will be less active in the next few weeks (and am genuinely thankful that I experienced yet another Ro16 crashout). While my situation will improve by the autumn, I may still produce lower-quality RPs for WC100 and IFCF24 due to these IRL pressures.

I am not retiring and not looking for any sympathy. I will still be signing up, rostering, and RPing for World Cups and IFCFs far into the future, and expect to be back in full force by WC101.

Please also note that Saint Eleanor assistant manager (and, in a bygone era, World Cup-winning Nephara centreback) Reniira Clevinger will be granted Eleanorian dual citizenship two weeks after the World Cup final. Neph's okay with this. Your statutory rights are not affected.

Update: Eshialand and I will be the caretakers. The one updating will be whoever can be arsed to do it first.

At the end of each cycle, the nation with the most points not yet inducted into the Hall of Fame is inducted. Should they be inactive, they must be at least five points ahead of any active nations, classified as having posted a roster for the most recent World Cup cycle; otherwise the active nation is inducted.

The nation with the most points not yet in the World Cup Nations' Hall of Fame following World Cup 98 is Kura-Pelland, an inactive nation with 23 points from 10 appearances. However, their inactivity means that Sel Appa, an active nation with 18 points from 8 finals appearances, takes precedence, as they are within 5 points. As such, Sel Appa joins the Hall of Fame as the WC98 inductee.

Note: There was a tie between Sel Appa and Tikariot, who is also active and has the same number of points. Their best position, a third place finish, was also tied. The tie was broken by Sel Appa's next best position being two quarterfinal exits, compared to Tikariot's zero.
