Signup thread
This is the signup thread for the inaugural Winter World Paralympic Games, intended to be NS Sport's equivalent of the real-life Paralympic Games. The Games are open to athletes with a physical disability.
The Paralympic Association of Liventia has announced the inaugural Games will take place in the mountain resort of Neverend, Liventia, in the north of the country. Neverend is one of the northern-most cities in The Heartland.
Instructions
PLEASE DO NOT MAKE "WE SIGN UP" or "ROSTER TO COME" type posts which are devoid of any actual sign-up. You also should not edit in your sign-up into an existing post; I will not review old signups to account for changes.
Copy the list of events below. Under each event, put the names of the athletes that you wish to participate in that event, if any—if you are not sending anyone to participate in an event, remove it from the list. In your signup, you may specify your team’s three-letter abbreviation, though one will be created for you if you do not.
Signup limits
Each nation has a signup limit of 100 entries, excluding any demonstration events. An “entry” consists of one individual/team entering one event—this means that a skier/guide team in one event counts as a single entry, while a single athlete participating in two events counts as two entries. Each person may enter no more than one puppet nation, and, when entering a puppet, must state who their main nation is.
With the exception of relays and figure skating, limits for these Games have been set by sport. For all intents and purposes, there is a maximum limit of 5 entries per nation per event, but nations are free to distribute their entries across the different events in each sport.
Skill modifiers
Optionally, you can put a skill modifier after each of your athletes, in parentheses. Skill modifiers range from 0 to 1, with 1 being best and 0 worst. Skill modifiers are assigned per entry, as explained above; a skier/guide team has a single skill modifier, while an athlete participating in multiple events has a separate modifier for each event (though his modifier in each event may be the same). The average of all modifiers in a delegation, excluding demonstration events, may be no more than 0.5; any delegation with a higher average will have its modifiers reduced.
Roster thread
You can put any additional information about your delegation (e.g., team rosters, flag bearer, national anthem) in the roster thread. This signup thread should be limited to information important to the signup process (i.e., entries, TLAs, demonstration sports, and questions about the signup process).
Signup deadline
All delegations should be posted by 00:00 UTC on Tuesday, December 15 (7 pm U.S. Eastern, Monday December 14). Signups after this deadline may be accepted or rejected at my discretion (depending primarily on time and size of delegation). The Games will run from Wednesday, December 16 to Saturday, December 26. Scorination is expected to occur twice per day. A schedule of events will be provided after signups have closed.
Corrections
If there is an error in your initial signup post, and you notice it more than 12 hours after posting, or after the deadline for signups has passed, please indicate specific corrections in a new post instead of editing your existing post. Corrections made after the signup deadline may or may not be accepted, depending on the severity of the change.
Demonstration events
For acceptance as a demonstration event, all proposed demonstration events must:
(a) Be able to be competed in by athletes with disability;
(b) Have significant support from five or more National Paralympic Committees;
(c) A description of the sport and its proposed events list, separated where possible into men's/women's/open and visually impaired/amputees (standing/sitting);
(d) A set of results for the sport
You can (and should) enter athletes in demonstration events at any time, regardless of whether the event has been officially noted or confirmed—the entries will simply be disregarded if the event is not held. In principle, demonstration events adequately specified will be held if at least five nations have entered.
Scorination
Xkoranate 0.3 will be used for the Games, with appropriately-modified sport files. In some events IRL, a system is used to equalise times set by different athletes with different disabilities in the same event. For IC purposes, this takes place, but OOCly the scorinator does not handle this.
Events
There are 67 events on the calendar: all 64 events contested IRL at the Vancouver 2010 Paralympics, plus three events in figure skating (normally contested at the Olympics).
All visually impaired events (less figure skating) will require a sighted guide for the impaired skier. The guide need not be of the same gender; i.e. a male guide can take part in a women's visually impaired event. When signing up please indicate who is the skier and who is the guide.
Sitting events are for athletes with lower-limb disability, including amputation. In most cases, the athletes use a sit-ski.
Standing events are for athletes with a locomotive disability who are still able to use the same equipment as able-bodied athletes.
