That point being that NS is a good deal more than just this particular forum. NSG will likely be the last of the many communities to fade away completely. But it's undoubtedly getting there -- name 10 or so prominent high-quality posters who joined after the move to self-hosting, and 10 or so prominent high-quality posters who joined beforehand. Note which group has many more names that immediately come to mind. Then consider how many similar posters have left since 2009. It's a lot.

NS is in decline and I can't see that ending anytime soon.

Before: LG, Maurepas, Greed And Death, Me, Big Jim P, GnI, Parkus, Ifreaan, Dyakovo, Muravyets.

You're not a high quality poster because you're never funny, sorry. The same goes for Murv, who has a stick up her arse.

Aye it does, or NSG just becomes tedious. See any topic related to anything anyone sort of cares about.

"Blah blah here's fifteen thousand pretty fucking redundant words on my opinion about abortion or rape or whatever which is bound to be essentially the same as everyone else's, because NSG is a fairly left-leaning place, other than for a few posters who are generally snubbed."
"I concur, yes, and allow me to write some additional high-falutin text to tell everyone why"

Not Actually Fun.

Then obviously the solution is to not post in a thread where your opinion can boil down to 'I agree with everyone else'.

It's not that hard.

I, for one, blame Minoriteeburg; his shaving his afro and replacing it with a (much smaller) hat ruined everything! :p

Aye but when every bastarding topic is basically "Religion is a bit bad when taken to extremes, and people probably ought to give that kind of thing up", "North Korea does something a bit mental", or "Don't you think rape is bad?" it's hard to escape a bit of ennui and still want to come here without resorting to humour.

And then if it gets moved to F7 it just dies because posters there love to be So Wacky Lol Isn't Nana Lovely Lol etc.

I think that part of me died some time last year. I realised that I didn't really care about anything other than amusing myself when posting.

Iirc didn't Beeker reminisce about the days when there were Stormfront or similar Neo-nazi poster invasions?

Call me boring (and I'm not on here as regularly as I used to be) but I think things aren't too bad around now.

EDIT: That said things do seem to have become repetitive, but I wonder if that's just an inevitable response to being around any particular forum long enough.

Not that I can remember, and I've been here a while. This is like the low point in terms of interesting conversation, there are a million new, shitty posters, and F7 has taken what fun we have left and pissed all over it.

Well, at least we aren't currently having some stupid, pointless drama about the Mods or anything like that.

But, yeah.

Yeah, true.

There are a few posters who I respect/like reading their posts/both of them, and I tend to only really respond to them.

But I reckon I can fall into the worst of what NS is leaning towards at times.

I blame the lack of interesting news subjects. Or rather, the lack of interesting subjects featured in the news which are being discussed.
we, unlike the bourgeoisie, have nothing to lose and therefore our expression will be the only honest one, our words will be the only challenging ones and our art will be the one revolutionary expression. No, that's not really it. Your belief that all interesting discussions have to involve the news is a good deal closer to the cause.

I'd take issue with a few of those, but fine.

After: Natapoc, I think, Panzerjager too, NN, Zeppy, admittedly, I don't know many more 'new' posters.

Natapoc = 2003 nation; joined pre-Jolt. NN = 2004 nation; joined in Jolt era. Zeppy = 2008 nation, iirc. Panzerjaeger I'll give you.

That's one. And, with 17,000 posts, you are evidently not inactive in this forum.

And I only know of maybe seven similarly dedicated posters no longer being on here, and three of them were trolls.

Hmm. I tend to count those who are also mostly-inactive -- their nations might still exist, they might make a post once in a while, but they are no longer part of the community per se.

I don't believe that; you don't disagree, however, that news coverage of an event would increase its chances of being featured on NSG? And if we had a large and rather varied number of news topics, it would certainly aid discussion. I do agree with your earlier point though, that the quality of posts has alot to do with it.
