Can we go home yet? Qazox is 2-0 at home, but 0-3 on the road, as Krytenia held off a late rally to defeat Qazox 51-37. Qazox is now in desperation mode an might have to win out just to get into the playoffs. Once again our missed field goals lead to our loss as Krytenia scored 3 TD's on the play after a missed FG in the 2nd quarter to take a 28-10 lead before a late TD cut the deficit, but the damage was done. Qazox concludes this 4 game road trip in ASMV on Thusday.

Qazox is the worst road team in Indoor GridIron as ASMV's Xatat Ald’say nailed a 41 yard FG as time expired dropping the Avengers to 2-4 overall and on the brink of elimination. For once Qazox didn't make any big mistakes, but ASMV had the ball last, and that was the deciding factor. Qazox heads home to take on Cosumar and a victory is mandatory for any chance at the playoffs.

'They're in our sights!'

by Isoef Jukic

With an absolute landslide, at our national home, the General Jarko Arena, we now - have Cosumar, in our metaphorical crosshair. Both of us have a 4-1 record, but they are ahead via. the head-to-head record. We beat Krytenia, by 56-25, our defense, for some reason, not strong enough, but our offense, causing plenty of problems for them. Our quarterback, Maksimilijan Kuruc, rushed to the line, to score the first points of the game, the PAT was good, via. Timotej Tom Baumhakl's boot. We then scored a further, 7 when, Maksimijan Kuruc threw the ball for 46 yards to Tyko Hykinnen, and then another point after added. The same combination, added some more points, Kuruc, throwing on 4th down, to Hykinnen from 5 yards. And another point after, making it 21 points on the scoreboards for ourselves.

A pass from 50 yards, by Maksimilijan Kuruc, was caught in the endzone by Halil Zlatanov. And another PAT was added by Timotej Tom Baumhakl. Our tight-end, Mario Pabst, rushed for the line, after a short play, on 3rd down, with QB, Kuruc, throwing virtually as soon as the ball arrived in his hands. The PAT was good, making it 35-25, obviously, after this, Krytenia didn't get another score on the electronic scoreboard. Another two touchdowns followed, the first of the two, was thrown for 34 yards, by Maksimiljan Kuruc to Rijad Bizumovic. The PAT was good, and then the same combination, between Kuruc and Bizumovic, this time thrown from a contrasting 5 yards, the PAT was missed by Timotej Tom Baumhakl, we don't understand how he missed from that range, however. The score was now, 48-25. Timotej Tom Baumhakl, kicked a field goal from 22 yards. Making the score 51-25, he then got another in the 4th quarter, and astonishingly Krytenia conceded a safety, late into the 4th quarter, when our defense chased down their running back. This made for the final score. Of 56-25.

Anyway, our next match is against Andossa Se Mitrin Vega, the ones we marked to be disappointments, and it looks like me, and the rest of the office were right. They have a record of 2 wins, and 4 losses. Which amazingly leaves them in third place in the group, a high position, for a team with such a poor record. They have lost their two first-choice quarterbacks, one of them getting injured in their loss against our lads. Which soured a good victory for our team. They also seem to struggle against quick fire running games. Hopefully our team will have realized this, in the past week, as they watched video after video on how they play. This match will be in the highly intimidating atmosphere of the Stadii Se Draggonnii Arcea, well now 'in', but rather - 'under'. As the arena, has been carved in the rock underneath the ground-level arena. The fans of ASMV will play a critical part in this game, if they can get in the heads of our players, they could win it. If our boys, play their game - the way they know they can, we will win the game. And further our record. Cosumar had a bye today, allowing us to begin to catch them, we are both on the same record, as aforementioned. If they fall at the hands of any of the other teams, we are in with a chance of capturing the first position in the group, allowing us to - perhaps - have an easier road to the final. In our group, two more wins, will give us a good chance of getting to the knockout stages, we could get there with less, but we want a good record, and at the moment we have as good a chance at a surprise progression from our boys...

OOC - Qazox, K'baryth is done with a blown knee. Three games now :D

Xatat Brings Sky Dragons New Life

“You mean we would actually be in the playoffs if they started today?” Xifor’aru Ves'que sat on the rather uncomfortable seat of the cold tub as his left leg dangled in the icy water, A deep contusion of the calf had prompted the trainers to make him use the cold bath for at least a half an hour. “you’re shitting me.”

“Nope. We would be in, thanks to the Qazoxian defense.” Uashadana Ia'hati was all smiles.

“But we are terrible!” Xifo still could not believe it.

“Six teams are worse, and besides, we are 2-1 with Xatat running the show”

“I know. But that makes 2-4 altogether. Didn’t think that was good enough.”

“It is. And once the knockouts start it’s a whole new season for us. Last team in still has a shot to win it all.” The big lineman continued to grin.

Despite the Sky Dragons losing their first three games and looking more done than a Vegan prostitute during Car’anme Sustierii se Vega Furth, the boys from ASMV have rallied behind third string QB Xatat Ald’say to win games against Krytenia and Qazox that have put them back in the running to qualify for one of the ten playoff spots available.

Does this really mean we have a shot at winning this thing? Probably not. But that is why we play the games. On any given Sunday…

Qazox finally returned home and defeated Cosumar 49-40 to remain in the playoff hunt. Now Qazox must defeat Mytannion on the final day, if Mytannion defeats Cosumar this week; and then we have to hope that Krytenia defeat Cosumar on the final day to ensure Qazox a playoff berth. If we lose or if Cosumar wins, we're as good as done.

Stars lose another home fixture

WOODSTOCK (ASP) --
For most teams, playing in front of their home crowd and staying in their own beds is an advantage that's worth at least a few points, especially when a veteran team plays against a newcomer to the sport.

Not so for the Sarzonian indoor gridball team. The Stars lost yet another home fixture, dropping to 0-4 at The Palestra with a 36-35 defeat at the hands of a Freelasio side that only won a single match prior to the night.

Even though a crowd of 8,146 was less than half the capacity of The Palestra, the boos cascading down on the players were more than loud enough to resonate with them. Coach Brad Abernathy blasted the fans after the match, saying they "don't deserve the privilege of sitting in those seats no matter how much they paid.

"These guys are busting their arses, diving for balls on this turf, doing everything they can to win," Abernathy fumed. "I don't see a single one of those fat asses able to do any of that."

Meanwhile, quarterback Chris Painter was far more diplomatic.

"Yeah, it hurts," he said. "But we're just not making plays. I don't blame the fans. Hell, if it were me, I'd be booing."

The Stars have their final match away to Group A first place side Mossulia. Freelasio host Sibirsky while Delaclava have their bye. On Matchday 10 Friday night, the Stars will have their bye and may very well be done with their qualifying campaign.

"It would be frustrating," said kicker Xander Ryan, who made all five extra points, but missed a 33-yard field goal that would have given the Stars a two-point lead with 42 seconds remaining. "But we'd really be bringing it on ourselves if that happened. And that missed kick is on me."

Try telling Painter that.

"I was the holder," he said. "I didn't spin the laces correctly."

Either way, Abernathy will likely have to answer questions when the season's over. Team officials said they intend to meet with Abernathy to discuss the team and his future with it.

"It's part of the standard review," said a team source, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of deliberations. "We'll know better when we sit down with him."

However, a source close to Abernathy said the coach is "as good as gone.

"I don't think his performance impressed anyone," the source said. "That said, his criticism of the fans killed any chance he might have had to stay in his job."

'Qualification Ensured..'

by Isoef Jukic

Today, we made sure of our qualification through our NS ArenaBowl I group, with a close, 42-39, victory versus Andossa Se Mitrin Vega - on their home turf. Our 5 wins and 1 loss record, enough to qualify - and we still haven't played all our games yet! The game started off with quickfire possesions, we got the first points, when Halil Zlatanov ran into the endzone of off a 24 yards throw from Maksimilijan Kuruc. We rushed the 2-point conversion, gaining an extra two points. We then got another touchdown, this time off a 38 yard throw for Kuruc, with Hykinnen only having to run 5 yards to get into the endzone, the PAT was kicked by Baumhakl, and was good. Giving us 15 points. We then got the same thing, the touchdown and PAT, this time the throw from Kuruc to Bizumovic. And the kick still by Baumhakl, who then, late in the second quarter - just before halftime, kicked a field goal from 45 yards. Making the score 25-25 at halftime.

After halftime, we started slowly out of the blocks, and had to concede several scores before making our first of the second half, which was a touchdown (kick return), by Hykinnen, the PAT was kicked by Baumhakl, and was good. Then, Maksimilijan Kuruc, instead of throwing to a receiver, rushed for the line himself, and the PAT was good. Making the score 39-39. It was very close all the way to the end...and on 4th down, in the 4th quarter, with 13 seconds left, Timotej Tom Baumhakl, sent us through to the knockout rounds, kicking a 48 yard field goal. To make the score 42-39 to our team.

This, as said - sent us through to the knockout rounds, and also, Cosumar lost their second game today - to Qazox, which leaves us top, on our record alone, we play them in our next game, we lost against them, in Cosumar. But this time, we're on our home ground, The General Jarko Arena, and with our fans there, hopefully, we can get behind the team, and cheer them onto a victory, if we win this, we probably, will be through, as first place. In fact - we will, as even if we lose to Qazox on the last day and we beat Cosumar in our next fixture, our record will be 6-2, and even then if Cosumar win their last game, their record will be 5-3, putting us through first place, so it is paramount for us to win this game, it'll give us an easier road to (say it quietly!) the final. If we do lose tomorrow, it is tantamount to suicide. We need the win, our boys, are on a winning streak - it is our time to shine!

'Top of the group, your 'aving a laugh!'

by Isoef Jukic

We are the team, with the best overall record in every single group of the NS ArenaBowl I. Which has also ensured top spot in this group. As we won against Cosumar, with a scoreline of 55-33, it shows our offense did well, but again, the defense struggled. It wasn't a problem however, as our great scoring record continued. We started off with a 44 yard pass from Kuruc to Zlatanov, and the PAT was good, and then a 32 yard rush by Hykinnen, we then rushed a 2-point conversion, giving us 15 points. We then converted a field goal, kicked by Timotej Tom Baumhakl, and then another touchdown, a 22 yard pass from Kuruc, straight into Bizumovic' hands in the endzone. The PAT was kicked by Baumhakl, and was good. We then converted another two field goals, both kicked by Baumhakl. Making the score 31-20 to us, we scored another two touchdowns, the first a 12 yard rush by Zlatanov, the second Kuruc rushing from 7 yards to the line. Both of the following PAT's were good. Making the score 45-30. We scored another touchdown, with Kuruc throwing a pass for 52 yards, into Bizumovic' hands, who had to run about 5 yards to the line. Timotej Tom Baumhakl, kicked the PAT, and then a 22 yard field goal, in the 4th quarter, finalizing the result. The full time score being 55-33.

Statistics
Maksimilijan Kuruc, threw for 116 yards.
Timotej Tom Baumhakl, kicked 17 points for our team.
Zlatanov and Bizumovic both got two touchdowns apiece.

So that result, means we have beaten our main group rivals. And also means that we perhaps are the surprise package of the group and the tournament. This also means we will have an easier route through the remainder of the tournament - if we play well enough of course. We now don't have to participate First Round of the knockout stage, and we will have our first knockout match in the Quarter Finals, and hopefully against an 'easier' challenge, obviously there are no, easy games, or teams in this competition. But our team has proven itself, again and again. We have the overall best record in the tournament. And will continue this if we beat Qazox tomorrow. In the last group stage match of the NS ArenaBowl I. We then won't have to play again until the 30th of August, and if we win in the quarter finals - the worst we can do is come 3rd or 4th, which will be a huge acheivement for a nation as small and well, new as our own...

Here are the other group 'B' results...

Coach fired before Stars victory

From staff reports

Mossulia (27 August 2010) -- Sarzonian national indoor gridball team coach Brad Abernathy was fired just after he arrived at the arena for Sarzonia's group stage finale against group leaders Mossulia.

The decision, announced by the team's general manager Thomas Honeycutt was made "with immediate effect," meaning that Abernathy was escorted out of the building 15 minutes after he walked in. He only gave a brief speech to the team announcing his dismissal before leaving.

Abernathy did not return several phone calls, text messages and e-mails seeking comment by the time The Woodstock Daily Mail went to press.

"It wasn't an ideal situation to say the least," said offensive coordinator James Hawkins, who served as acting head coach. "Coach Abernathy called the offensive plays. He was heavily involved in everything."

Honeycutt said he could not comment publicly on the reasons for the firing, citing federal privacy laws. However, quarterback Chris Painter said Abernathy was fired after criticising the fans.

"The top brass felt there was a right way and a wrong way to do things," Painter said. "They felt Abernathy didn't show enough restraint."

The firing, despite Sarzonia's longstanding cultural opposition to terminating employees may be considered out of character, but "was warranted," said one source familiar with the decision who asked not to be identified due to the sensitive nature of the announcement.

"Termination for cause is very abnormal, but it's not impossible," the source said. "It happened to the field hockey team."

Hawkins will coach the team for the remainder of the Arena Bowl. A worldwide search for a permanent head coach will begin immediately. Honeycutt said Hawkins would be considered for the job.

Abernathy sues Stars management; Stars move on

From staff reports

WILMINGTON -- Former Sarzonia indoor gridball coach Brad Abernathy has filed a $6 million lawsuit against the governing body for the team in Incorporated Sarzonian District Court in Harlon County.

The lawsuit cites breach of contract and violation of federal privacy laws related to personnel actions. In addition, the lawsuit claims Sarzonian indoor gridball officials acted inappropriately by having Abernathy escorted out of the arena in Mossulia.

"There was no excuse for the sort of behaviour my client had to endure," said Abernathy's attorney, Lynn Bernard. "He was treated as a common criminal rather than a loyal employee who had one misstep in two qualifying campaigns as the head coach of the Stars indoor gridball team."

Abernathy blasted indoor gridball officials for the timing of his dismissal, saying that he should have been allowed to continue to coach the team or should have been fired before he traveled with the team to Mossulia for the group stage finale.

"That isn't the behaviour of a responsible employer," he said before Bernard ushered him away from the microphones.

A spokeswoman for the team declined comment, citing the case being brought in district court. The lawsuit also names quarterback Chris Painter as a defendant, citing his comment on record about Abernathy's termination. Painter said he would argue that part of the lawsuit was frivolous.

"How am I privy to personnel decisions involving my head coach?" Painter said. "I merely stated an opinion based on what I observed of his behaviour. I'm entitled to an opinion and I'm entitled to express my opinion however I see fit."

Meanwhile, interim coach James Hawkins said he would continue to call offensive plays as he did during the team's 52-41 victory over Mossulia. He took over the offensive playcalling responsibility from Abernathy in the final match.

"I was heavily involved in putting together the offensive game plans for each match prior to taking on this role," Hawkins said. "It's really not that much of a stretch to become the playcaller. I know it's not an ideal situation, but we'll do the best we can."

Hawkins said the team was busy preparing for its preliminary round match against Stannge (3-5), which finished the group stage with a plus-16 point differential despite its record. Sarzonia's plus-27 point differential is third highest among Arena Bowl teams despite its 4-4 record. As for the match in Estrella Motor Cars Arena in Wilmington, Hawkins said the team would be wary despite Stannge's record.

"They've shown they can beat quality teams," he said. "And we went 0-4 in home matches. This isn't the same venue we played in during the group stage, but we have to approach this the way we've approached our away matches. Barring a miracle or two, this will be the only time we're favoured to win a match, and even that's not a given."

Somewhere in a hill, Mossulia

The two monks sat down on the ground and started the ritual. Although you couldn't tell it the monks were only teenagers, but they both had bald heads. They scattered some scented bluebird ashes and the leaving of an over weight pig. They then said a prayer about how they want the team to do well in the arena bowl. They then sat down and started to watch the game.

Somewhere in Sarzonia, Sarzonia

The two fans sat down in their hotel room and began to babble excitedly to each other about the arena bowl.

"I can't believe that we made it through to the second round as 4th seed!"

"It's great isn't it? We're doing well and go straight into the quarter-finals!"

"I reckon we can win!"

"Who do we have?"

"Cosumar."

"How are they doing?"

"They have the same record as us."

"Cool lets win it then?"

"I hope so."

"We were doing very well until the final game."

"Well even a 47-44 defeat to Sibirsky isn't too bad."

"Yeah and anyway we can Improve as we go along."

"That's true."

"See ya then. I'm going for pizza."

'Our Mytanar Dragon, slayed by brave Qazox' Avengers'

by Isoef Jukic

We were in Qazox, a few nights ago, to witness a terrific game, one which was back-and-forth, fast paced action. But, our Mytanar dragon, was slayed, by the Qazox lads. They fought on, causing us many problems, their fans - in number, were the heart and soul of the team, and in the end...it was one of our own players errors, that left us with our second defeat.

The game started off well, with Kuruc throwing a 15 yard pass for Halil Zlatanov, for a touchdown. TT Baumhakl kicked the PAT. Qazox came right back though, with Jake DeMotta throwing a quick-fire 1 yard pass to David Mea for a touchdown, Frank Jackson kicked the PAT and it was good. Kuruc, then threw a 9 yard pass to that man, Zlatanov, to put us back ahead, TT Baumhakl, then added the PAT. Qazox, were resilient and managed to square the game up again, with DeMotta throwing a pass to Mike Hammond, for a touchdown, and then the PAT was added by Frank Jackson. We were struggling to stay in possession, but Tyko Hykinnen, drove the team forward, running a 3 yard rush, for the touchdown, the PAT was kicked by Baumhakl again, at it was good. Putting us back ahead, 21-14. The game continued to be competitive, with Randal Jackson, rushing from 7 yards for the touchdown, Frank Jackson, kicked the PAT, it was good. This squared the game up, and now our players needed to continue to play well, we did, with a 37 yard touchdown pass, from quarterback Maksimilijan Kuruc, to Halil Zlatanov, the PAT by Timotej Tom Baumhakl was blocked, causing us some problems, as Qazox, remained a competitive opponent, scoring two quick touchdowns, in quick succession, the first a 42 yard pass by Jake DeMotta to Ty Hobbes, the PAT was kicked by Frank Jackson, and was good. The second one was a lot simpler, with a 1 yard rush by Randal Jackson, and the PAT good, kicked by Frank Jackson, putting Qazox ahead by 8 points, the score Qazox 35-27 Mytannion. We then started to make the important plays, with a 25 yard pass from Kuruc, falling straight into Halil Zlatanov's hands, the PAT was good by TT Baumhakl. Frank Jackson then kicked a 22 yard field goal for Qazox, putting them 4 points ahead, the scoreline was now 38-34 to Qazox. Kuruc threw a 8 yard pass to Mario Pabst, the PAT good by TT Baumhakl, putting us ahead, 41-38, only a field goal ahead! And that is exactly what Qazox got, with a 20 yard field goal kicked by Frank Jackson, and another, this time from 24 yards by the same man, putting Qazox ahead again, 44-41. The game was now getting to the latter stages, and Tyko Hykinnen, realized this, rushing from 3 yards again, but the 2 point conversion was failed, however - we still thought we had the game in the bag, as we were in the latter minutes. Qazox, weren't backing down from this battle, and a 8 yard pass from Jake DeMotta to Ty Hobbes, and then the PAT failed, put them ahead, they had effectively won the game, it was 50-47 to their team, but we had one last chance, a 43 yard field goal, Timotej Tom Baumhakl, had a history of scoring from a long, long way-out, but he also had a habit, of cracking under high pressure, this was one of them moments, and he missed this all-important field goal, which would have secured us the 1st seed definitely. As it happened, it didn't matter. As we secured it anyway.

We secured the top seed in the knockout rounds, mainly because of our good record - which was still tied with two other teams, because of our loss in Qazox - and then, because of our hugely superior point difference, which was plus-71.

The seedings are as follows:

1. Mytannion (6-2, Group B winner), plus-71 point differential
2. Sibirsky (6-2, Group A winner), plus-23 point differential
3. Wadomia (6-2, Group C winner), minus-3 point differential
4. Mossulia (5-3, Group A runner up), plus-42 point differential
5. Cosumar (5-3, Group B runner up), plus-23 point differential
6. Rennidan (5-3, Group C runner up), plus-15 point differential
7. Sarzonia (4-4, Group A third place), plus-27 point differential
8. Qazox (4-4, Group B third place), minus-9 point differential
9. Churchma (3-5, Group C third place), minus-five point differential
10. Stannge (3-5, Group C fourth place), plus-16 point differential

This means we won't have to face any of the group winners, until the semi-finals (if we can get that far...), it also means, that our quarter final opponents, will be either Qazox, or Churchma- at The Palestra in Woodstock, Sarzonia (the hosts of the tournament). Whoever wins out of them two teams, in the first knockout round, will be our opponents, of course, we've met Qazox before - and they can be quite a challenge, but what of shady, unknown-to-us nation, Churchma, well - here is a little idea of how they have done so far in the tournament:

They finished 3rd in their group, behind Wadomia and Rennidan - first and second respectively - this was with a record of 3 wins and 5 losses, which is .375 percent win record. They managed to score 290 points altogether, but they conceded even more, with points conceded being 295. This left them with a -5 point differential. They managed to qualify still - even with this record, mainly because of their ability to beat the teams that finished below them, they won the tiebreaker over Stannge via. head-to-head, where they beat them both at home, and away, and they stayed above Western Cuba, due to point differential, in the head-to-head results.

So, now - the public know the challenges we will be facing, Qazox or Churchma...if we win - we have the chance of gold at a major event, we only need to win, three more games, and we could be NS ArenaBowl I World Champions...

Whitedeer, Sibirsky (SP) Capitalizt Avenge Loss, Win Group
Facing off against Mossulia, a team that was leading the group, and defeated the Capitalizt 50-30 on their home turf, the Capitalizt used their home field advantage to pull off a stunning 47-44 victory. The win gives the Capitalizt the group title and the number two seed for the knock out stage of the tournament. The Capitalizt will enjoy time off, and then face off against the winner of the Sarzonia-Stannge game later today. The Capitalizt split the group series with Sarzonia, winning 51-43 in Sarzonia, but suffering a stunning 52-34 drubbing in Whitedeer.

"It was close, but we got it, and we got the number two seed. I'm happy," stated quarterback Huba Donka, who passed for 329 yards and five touchdowns in the nail biter.

Mossulia was out to a fast lead early in the game, and it looked to be another decisive victory when they stretched their lead to 21 points at halftime. Donka came out with guns blazing in the second half, scoring all five of his touchdowns after the break. It came down to a field goal by Folke Svensson, who managed to put it through for the Capitalizt.

The Capitalizt eagerly await the Sarzonia-Stannge match up to learn who they will oppose in the next round.

"The Stars are 0-4 at home in the tournament, it'll be hard to root against them," stated Capitalizt coach Jimmy Critchfield.

Portland, Sarzonia (SP) Capitalizt Arrive at Knockout Stage
The Sibirsky Capitalizt spent their off day on the practice field doing basic drills, and practicing special situation plays.

"We've got to be ready," head coach Jimmy Critchfield said. "They had a game day, and they're ready. I'm not sure how they managed to go 0-4 at home in the group stage. But they won at home yesterday. It's like breaking a seal. They may not lose at home again, it's going to pour now. We beat them here before, we can do it again."

The Sarzonia team defeated Stannge in convincing fashion 40-26.

Stars overcome distractions, win playoff opener

From staff reports

WILMINGTON (30 August 2010) -- Sarzonia may not have won a match in front of its home crowd during the group stage of the inaugural NS Arena Bowl, but the Stars ignored the spectre of a lawsuit and won a match in front of a Sarzonian crowd, defeating 10th seeded Stannge 40-26 in front of 19,276 at Estrella Motor Cars Arena to advance to the quarterfinals.

The district court in Harlon County has not announced a date for a preliminary hearing in the lawsuit filed by former Stars coach Brad Abernathy. A spokeswoman for the court announced that further details would be released at that time.

"At this point, it would be premature to discuss particulars," the spokeswoman said. "The clerk of the court has to review the case to see if it has merit before we schedule the hearing. When asked if the clerk could potentially rule on the merits of the case, she said, "you'd have to ask him."

A source familiar with the clerk's thinking said the clerk "was about 50/50" in deciding whether the case had merit.

"Sarzonian employment law is very specific about what you can and can't do," said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of laws prohibiting discussion of a case before it reaches the courts. "He's going to have to decide if the employer violated Sarzonian labour laws, or if Abernathy is subject to the same laws everyone else is being in a managerial role."

The source cited Sarzonian codes that specify supervisors being held to a higher standard than rank and file employees, and added that "certain egregious conduct" could merit immediate dismissal.

"He may rule that Abernathy's lawsuit doesn't have merit because his actions in criticising the fans fell under the "egregious conduct" category, the source said. "The code is deliberately open-ended."

As for gridball, Sarzonia's reward will be a third meeting with Sibirsky, which finished as Group A champions with a 6-2 record due to tiebreakers. The Stars split the series with the Capitalizt, losing the opener at The Palestra 51-43 and beating them 52-34 in Whitedeer. That was with Brad Abernathy as coach, however. Meanwhile, interim coach James Hawkins said the team would not introduce many new wrinkles against Sibirsky.

"By now, we are who we are," he said. "They know our tendencies."

The Stars (5-4) got a strong game from quarterback Chris Painter, who shook off being named as a defendant in Abernathy's lawsuit against the team by throwing four touchdown passes and completing 25 of 36 passes for 302 yards. Painter said the lawsuit "didn't even enter my mind.

"I've got a job to do and that's play gridball," he said. "The rest of it will take care of itself."

Portland, Sarzonia (SP) Capitalizt Win Rubber Match
The Capitalizt won the third and final battle against the Stars 44-37. It was a tightly played game with four lead changes, and neither team leading by more than seven points at any time.

Stars' quarterback Chris Painter threw for four touchdowns and created considerable problems for the Capitalizt defense. Not to be outdone however Capitalizt quarterback Huba Donka had five scoring passes.

"We knew they would play tough. I just find it hard to believe they only have one win at home," Donka said. "The Stars are really better than this performance shows. I'm not sure what happened to them."

A coach firing and lawsuit of course did not help.

Up next, the Capitalizt travel to Wilmington where they will face off against Rennidan in their semifinal match up. Rennidan eked out a victory over Wadomia 41-40.

'Seize the moment.'

by Isoef Jukic

We are through to the semi-finals of the NS ArenaBowl I tournament. With a 39-29 win against Churchma, at The Palestra, in Woodstock - Sarzonia. We won, quite convincingly against a poor team, Churchma had played a very good, high class team up until this stage, however. We won, and stormed into the lead, starting off straight from the first kick, returning it for a touchdown, courtesy of Mario Pabst, we then got the 2-point conversion, via Tyko Hykinnen rushing to the line. The next play, we chased down the Churchma team, and turned them over, retrieving the ball, it was then, straight from first down, with Maksimilijan Kuruc throwing from 28 yards, straight into the hands of Halil Zlatanov, for the touchdown, Timotej Tom Baumhakl then kicked the ball between the uprights, for the PAT. This put us in a good position, with 15 points on the scoreboard. In the second quarter, Churchma had our boys on the ropes, we were on 4th down, way in our own half, when Maksimilijan Kuruc, threw a pass for 58 yards, to Tyko Hykinnen, for a touchdown. The PAT was good, via. Timotej Tom Baumhakl's boot. After the half-time break, we came out firing on all cylinders, hitting hard into the Churchma lines. With a quick touchdown, of a rush by Rijad Bizumovic, the PAT kicked by Baumhakl, this gave us 29 points. We then got another touchdown, this time off of a 45 yard throw by Maksimilijan Kuruc, to Halil Zlatanov, the PAT good (by Baumhakl...again). In the last 10 seconds, we secured the result, with a 34 yard field goal, from the boot of Timotej Tom Baumhakl. This gave us the final score, of 39-29.

We won, which was the most important thing, but we won well. And that is even more important, to show we have as much class as anyone in this tournament. We've been drawn against Cosumar, who we've met before, in the group stages, beat Mossulia (46-36), at the Estrella Motor Cars Arena, in Wilmington, in the host nation (Sarzonia), obviously. We lost to them by 5 points away from home, in Cosumar. But, we beat them at home, by a very convincing margin, by 22 points. We hope to repeat this, as it'd get us into the final. But it would get us a lot of publicity also, which would be great for our nation. This game will be played at 'The Annex' which is in Nicksia. And we hope that as many of our fans as allowed can get into the stadium, to cheer the team to a victory. If we win this, and reach the final - we will play either one of Sibirsky or Rennidan, Sibirsky, were seeded as second seed in the knockout rounds, so were obviously the next best team - behind us. They won their group. Rennidan, were seeded as 6th seed. They qualified for the knockout rounds with a 5 wins and 3 losses record, they finished in second place in Group C, behind Wadomia. We will obviously either play the winners of these two, if we get to the final - and the losers if we lose and play in the 3rd/4th place play-off. Which is the least we can have now, a bronze medal would be a huge achievement for our nation, so even that would be great, but a silver or gold - was unthinkable before this tournament, we've surprised some teams, and beat some well-established teams, by very good scorelines. It is in our sights now, can we capture the moment, make it ours, and win the tournament, or will we let the dream go, and end up 3rd or 4th, both of which are still good.

Anyway, fans of Mytannion, get into 'The Annex', get the mood going, get chants, chanted - spur the team on, who knows?

We could win it...
