The Interstellar Diarchy of Lacedaemonia (High Lacedaemonian: διαστρικό διαρχία της Λακεδαίμονος; Low Lacedaemonian: Therapnaeus Regnum Sidera), often simply called Lacedaemonia, the Diarchia, or the Lacedaemonians, is a primarily human civilization that controls several worlds mostly concentrated in the Orion Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. As of 1415 LGE, or Lacedaemonian Glory Era, it contains estimated population of around 300 billion sapients, and maintains control of nearly 70 worlds in 15 differing systems, in which around 63 of are "Terran". Lacedaemonia also maintains power and political jurisdiction over multiple protectorates and enclaves around the Orion Region of the Milky Way. The capital and Diarchic Throne is located on Vlákos (Βλάχος), the third planet in orbit around its star of Arkás (Αρκάς). Overall, Lacedaemonia has currently orchestrated their current extent of control over their territories for centuries.

The Lacedaemonians are only one of the many descendants of an ancient human civilization located in the far areas of the Orion Arm of the Milky Way. Generation ships from this "precursor" civilization flew into the midst of the stars in the Orion Arm. Arriving later in the Deep Orion Space, the ships diverged to colonize new areas of Orion; in which only four were colonized successfully. The first attempts at the colonization of Vlákos succeeded, when they found a Terra-type exoplanet almost frighteningly similar to the primeval "Terra". The established colonies maintained long-distance radio contact.
For five centuries, Vlákos was divided into separate countries that established the exploration of the Arkás Star System. After an interplanetary crusade devolving between two monotheistic religions with similar roots, the countries of Vlákos formed a hasty international non-aggression pact, which lasted only for seven decades. The peace was shattered when the first King of Lacedaemonia, King Epaenetus Antípatros of the Knights of Christ, declared a global union of this "Christendom", the ancestor of Dimiouismos. The war only lasted for twenty years. The Vlákosi nations later united under the Banner of Epaenetus, which established the Arkás Dominion of Lacedaemonia. This unification marked the first year of the Lacedaemonian Golden Era (LGE). In 2 LGE, Vlákos successfully colonized its moon, Vithleém (Βηθλεέμ), effectively marking the beginning of the colonization of the Arkás Star System. The first planetary colony that was established by the Vlákosi outside of their home world was on Lýkos (λύκος), a habitable planet that was in a far-away binary orbit with Vlákos.
Circa. 115 LGE, under King Diachysus's reign, the Arkás System was under Vlákosi dominion, and the century-old empire began making plans for colonizing nearby star systems. Alas, much to the malice of Arkás Dominion of Lacedaemonia, other human civilizations had blossomed, with their home worlds being the mothers of their respective empires. These three ideological and culturally individual civilizations – Pyrigení̱s, Phrixus, and Bion, to be specific – had become interplanetary powers in their own realms, and they and Vlákos began to compete for influence and power dividedly. As a result, the Royal Systems that would become the basis of the Interstellar Diarchy of Lacedaemonia had entered into a feud. This "feud" ignited into a fiery inferno, when a Vlákosi battleship carrying a "Prophet of the Demiurge", akin to ancient Archbishops, was mistakenly fired upon by a Bioni corvette, thinking that they were interstellar void skirmishers stealing fuel from a nearby gas giant. This minor skirmish lit the raging flames of the catastrophic Vlákosi-Bioni Crusade, which began circa. 407 LGE and ended circa. 429 LGE. The war consumed the corpses of nearly three billion civilians and soldiers, and had weakened the economies, armies, and morale of the four powers greatly. All four powers had their hand in the war, whether militarily and diplomatically.
A certain far-away civilization encountered the primordial Lacedaemonians, and decided to wipe out a possible threat. With the bio-hordes of the Ka'lyzeh invading the Pyrigení̱s colony of Detokos in 487 LGE, the four Lacedaemonian civilizations realized that individually, they are unable to deter the cosmic advance of the alien hordes. The devestation that they brought was too much for interwarring forces that the humans had previously possessed The representatives of the "Original Four" met at the Vlákosi city of Lacothea to sign the Arkásian Unification Declaration, effectively establishing the early and first Kingdom of Lacedaemonia, the predecessor of the Diarchy. Despite this union with the four human systems, the Kingdom had almost failed to achieve victory over the biohordes at Vlákos and Lýkos, as the bio-hordes utilized catastrophic viral and microbial bombs. Overcome with nationalism and zeal not to let this catastrophe occur again, the Lacedaemonians had undergone a complete rapid militarization, instigating obligatory draft protocols, and technological advances to keep the bio-hordes away. It had worked, with the last of the bugs expelled outside interstellar Lacedaemonian borders; but at the cost of the civil and political liberties the many nations once had. Due to the Ka'lyzeh-Lacedaemonian War, the unified nations had become more authoritarian in political and economic aspects, and separatist/revolutionary movements have formed and dissolved among the Royal Planets; but the still lingering threat of xeno invasions from beyond has kept the Diarchia intact for the next two centuries.
In 759 LGE, the Lacedaemonian Social Revolution had erupted, which demanded the replacement of the overzealous, fundamentalist, and militarist Lacedaemonian government. This was met by brutal suppression and numerous Inquisitions, which led to the colossal Lacedaemonian Civil War, lasting until around 832 LGE. The "Old Government" won this civil war, and decided that it was best to lax some of the laws put in place during the Ka'layzeh-Lacedaemonian Wars. This government set in place the "Diarchy", which separated the ecclesiastic royal dynasties and the secular ministries, and a new constitution was signed which guaranteed the Diarchia's upholding of the sanctity of rights for their citizens' civil and political liberties. The military was revamped to combat hostile xenos in a formidable fashion, economic prosperity thrived, and contact with other xeno civilizations was minimally established. Exploration vessels were sent out in all of the galactic directions looking for other civilizations; alas, rarely any other contact was made during this time. However, what would be the crowning achievement of the Diarchia during this early era would be the creation of the Phrixian Battleship of Kotecon, which dominated numerous civil battles and skirmishes.
A race of sentients known as the Zervos have been discovered in the 870's LGE, and they were slowly incorporated and assimilated into Lacedaemonian society through diplomatic (and rarely, militaristic) means. This led to some drastic ethnic conflicts that affected the Diarchia for the remainder of the 9th Century LGE and for the entire half of the 10th Century LGE. Several Zervos immigration crowds arrived in rapid succession, particularly the multitude of immigration waves caused by the destruction of the Zervos home world due to an explosion of an antimatter reactor in Zervos home-world orbit. To finally restrict the droves of Zervosi immigrants, Lacedaemonia decided to enact strict immigration policies in the late 10th Century LGE. This didn't last long, as immigration into the Interstellar Diarchy was reopened only a mere ten years later; but the brutal isolationist policies still remained. Assimilation continued within the Diarchia, especially with the emergence of the new genetically created race known as the Lagana.
Now, with the ascension of the Diarchic King Sthenelaus Eurybates the III and his militant expansionist policies, along with breakthroughs in the field of quantum physics and the investigation of tachyon particle broadcasting, Lacedaemonia is becoming more and more advanced and burgeoning. As a result, the military is setting its eyes on potential systems and nations to incorporate. This will lead to either a prestigious future for all, or a cataclysm for everyone.
