To say nothing of the fact that human rights shouldn't be subject to the whims of popular opinion.

I'd argue that in this case the humane thing to do would get these people the treatment they need to become healthy and productive members of society, rather than a pat on the back and letting them walk off in depression to commit suicide as such a large portion of them invariably do. The treatment of mental illness as something "natural" and "healthy" in modern society is just another sad trend.

Don't be evasive. Its a straight question, and if you have views and are willing to discuss them on NSG, there's little point in obfuscating. Is homosexuality a mental illness, in your opinion, or not? Is it unhealthy, and how so? And does it lead to unproductivity, and again, how so?

I would, but I don't actually want to get banned if I post my opinion on the matter here. Not that I think such a discussion would accomplish much beyond offending either or both of us. Consider me evasive if you must, I just don't think we would get anywhere.

Contrary to popular belief, unless you're outright trolling, you can say just about anything you want without it being trolling. If you can't say it in a way that isn't trolling, then that's your fault, not the mods'. And even then, what's the point in even starting the discussion if you know you can't say it without running afoul of the anti-trolling rules?

1. Transition IS the help for gender dysphoria. It has literally been proven to be superior to any other treatment.

As an intersexed, female-appearing person who legally might be considered MtF, there's no way I would feel safe using a men's room. I know that's kinda prejudiced of me, but practically speaking, no, if I'm ever in NC I'd probably wet myself trying to find some bushes or a closet rather than use the men's. It's against my religion to break the law (except when my religion is outlawed, but I digress).

Recently I was in a store and had to change my shirt (turns out you can't wear camo in a passport photo). There were lines to use a stall and I was in a hurry, so I just changed by the sink in the ladies. Now in NC if someone somehow had my medical history they might say to do that in the men's, and while I am sure the men would be very happy to see me topless, I most certainly would not be!

New statistics released by Trans Lifeline show that, in the wake of House Bill 2, the amount of calls that they've been receiving have doubled.

Greta Gustava Martela, co-founder of Trans Lifeline, a crisis hotline for transgender people, told The Daily Beast that their call volume has “nearly doubled” since North Carolina restricted the use of public bathrooms based on birth certificate gender markers.

“This would normally be a time of year when we would be on an upswing,” Martela told The Daily Beast, explaining that suicide prevalence generally rises in the spring, but to her the steepness of this increase is “indicative of some event happening, rather than the normal seasonal fluctuations.”

Trans Lifeline data shared with The Daily Beast shows that before Gov. Pat McCrory signed HB 2 on March 23, the hotline’s daily volume peaked at around 200 incoming calls. After the law, the peaks started getting higher.

From April 8 to April 16, the most recent date included in the data set, the hotline has only seen two days below 200 incoming calls. On April 13, they received what Martela notes is an “unprecedented” 357 calls.

Is that Trans Lifeline organization nationwide? International? It has two different call numbers. It surprises me that call rates would double when only two states have implemented such laws.

I don't know much about that organization.. From the looks of it, they have a small presence in Canada and - as the article linked states - are available to two-thirds of the counties in the United States.

Perhaps they mean that call rates in North Carolina and Mississippi doubled. Or perhaps they're just not well known or transgender people are just naturally afraid to seek help in fear of being hurt by those who are meant to help them and just two states passing discriminatory laws can double their national call counts.

They badly need a group to look down upon. They lost slaves to look down upon, so they implemented segregation and Jim Crow.
