Here, nations from Atlas will set up a universe several centuries in the future, where Earth (Atlas) has been destroyed and the Atlasian nations have become interstellar empires after an exodus from the planet. This is the context so far:
In 2140 AD, the planet of Atlas turned into an irradiated wasteland as the several nuclear-armed states press the big red button. Forseeing the impending destruction some time before it happens, the governments of Atlas secretely develop space colonisation programmes, and start building fleets of colonist ships. When nuclear fire rains from the skies, the colonist fleets take off into space, as Atlas burns behind them. Humanity is scattered across the starts, the different systems of our galaxy, and establishes colonies on different planets.
The biology of certain human factions may get changed over the years due to the nature of the planets they first colonised after the exodus. As the years pass and humanity exploits the newly found recources and technology on these new planets, these simple colonies expand into interstellar empires (not necessarily, of course), and after years of isolation, the different human nations make first contact.
Meanwhile, Alien and non-human races can have completely different storylines and background histories. They could range from massive hyper-powerful space empires to primitive species living in the stone age.
