Ghantish Leaders, Royals Weigh in on Native Vieux Controversy
Prime Minister Almazara: "When all options for peaceful settlement have been foreclosed, what other options do the disenfranchised have?"
May 1, 2025, Ghish, Ghant
The Liberal Prime Minister from Abaza, in office since 2022, said in her press conference that, "Based upon the situation unfolding in Vieux, I highly doubt that Prime Minister Trémaux is an optimist in any sense of the word. He talks of big game, yet is unwilling to listen to native leadership and their needs. I would say that he is directly responsible for the tensions occurring in Vieux now, because when all options for peaceful settlement have been foreclosed, what other options do the disenfranchised have? Violence, that’s what. Apparently, there is enough demand for independence or increased autonomous devolution that the only sensible solution to the crisis is a Referendum to decide the fate of the areas in question. After all, government only governs with the consent of the governed, and anything else is merely an oppressive yoke meant to be cast off. So, let the people of those areas decide what form of government they should have, otherwise myself, and the rest of the international community will have to label Prime Minister Trémaux a tyrant, and the nation of Vieux will have to be treated as such."
The passionate, outspoken Prime Minister Almazara, known for her center-left politics both at home and abroad, echoes popular Ghantish sentiment on the Somani Crow situation. Given the historical enmity between ethnic natives and the Vieuxen population, more than 75% of Ghantish citizens believe that at the very least, an independence referendum should be held by the Somani Crow natives, while another 60% believe that Prime Minister Trémaux is in the wrong on the issue, and outright support Somani Crow violence.
Closer to Vieux, Empress Dowager Teresa of Ghant weighed in on the issue as well, being particularly harsh in what she had to say. “I would like to applaud Member of Parliament Marlène Astier for being the voice of reason in Vannois regarding the tomfoolery unfolding in Vieux of late. She, like her father Maximilien, is quite sensible. Prime Minister Trémaux is obviously being a two faced wanker on the native issue, preaching optimism and openness yet is driving the natives to violence. Clearly they have a different direction in mind for how they should be organized on a governmental level, and this oppressive dog and pony show has gone on long enough. Let the people decide via a referendum, now, or be labeled as an oppressor who clasps unwilling citizens in chains.”
Teresa went on to respond directly to Vannoisian Prime Minister Vasseur rather harshly. “As for our own Prime Minister, I stood with him and applauded him for finally delivering a secular government for Vannois, but on this issue I cannot in good conscious stand with him. He would ask this nation, and all within it, including myself, to stand with Vieux on this issue, but I cannot and will not. Trémaux is wrong, and Vasseur is wrong for supporting his tyranny. I would ask the people of Vannois this. If a man tried to force himself upon a woman, and that woman cried out for help, who would you support? Vasseur would have you support the man. I would have you support the woman.”
The situation in Ghish remains tense, with Inperiala Palace being quiet on the subject, aside from a comment from the Empress that, “Referendums never hurt anyone.” All parties have urged the violence to stop, including pressing native leadership to put an end to violence, and for Vieuxen citizens and police to be more sensitive to native concerns.
