Relax, Hurty can post some filler.
Totes need a plan and make sure everybody follows it (and nobody pulls a Groot).

Radios are apparently going to be jammed by strategic-level assets, meaning Omni-directional tac-radios are going to be useless real quick. Directional sat-comm antennas (specifically tailored to have minimized sidelopes/radio-signature and minimized radio interference) will also be affected.
So I'd like a show of hands on how many non-Hurti squads upgraded to laser-based sat-comms.
-In either case, I'm pretty sure that's what Mon's forces used to relay pics of our force's faces ahead of us. So DEN can use what Royce has got.

Er, the idea of laser comms is that they can't be intercepted unless someone is standing directly between two transmitters. Are you worried that someone's going to park a quadcopter between a soldier and your satellite?
Also, free space optical communication is difficult. They need big infrastructure around them to be man portable (at least 2DOF stabilization) and need to be positioned somewhere inconvenient like the top of a helmet or the top of a backpack. They have trouble with fog, clouds, sunlight, rain, snow, scattered sunlight, air pocket distortion, and more. And they flat-out don't work with heavy walls in between people. I don't really see how one could shrink a laser-comms unit to anything smaller than a dedicated soldier.

To be fair, their use of laser comms in entirely dependent on them being in the right position with the right gear. Which is why laser comms has only come up once. And yeah, people are always trying to intercept my communications in nation level RPs, so I make sure they get a nasty surprise if they do intercept successfully.

So, what does "right position with the right gear" mean? Do they lug the comms with them on every OP, or not?

*sigh* If I had a command vehicle or a dedicated radio operator (which Charles could serve as, if he had a different loadout). Or even if one of those drones were bigger, or if I had a tank or manned aircraft on-station.
Nah, my squad doesn't have any lasers for comms. No matter how much the enemy jamms the radio spectrum, though, we've still got ultrasonic for inter-squad-member communications (as long as we're fairly nearby), that doesn't help with talking to Nexus or the drones, though.
Also, you implied your squad has laser comms. What spectrum are you using, and do they work indoors?
