Both crude and insensitive. Your idea would be worse than the status quo, and just leave people vulnerable.
Also unisex restrooms would also be useful to families with young children, among other people.

I for one think it's ridiculous to go through immense construction costs, more bureaucratization, and policy overviews to give less than 2% of the population another bathroom option.
Not to be crude or anything, but simply use the restroom that best corresponds to your anatomy.
However, others will claim this is necessary to achieve equality, you know the spiel.

Even simpler: don't use gender-segregated facilities. Eliminate urinals, just use closed stalls for toilets - there you have your entirely gender-equal facility, with just the costs for dismantling the eventual urinals.

Seriously people, get your priorities straight. Its not going to traumatize you to use a male or a female bathroom.

In the red corner we have people who think trans people should have bathroom built specifically for them (implying the Ladies and Gents are unsuitable for trans women and men respectively). We haven't actually found anyone who believes this yet, but we're keeping it open as a possibility.
And in the blue corner we have those who insist trans people should use the bathroom that matches their genitals/birth sex. They're getting their arguments ready now, and then spending the mandatory 5 seconds thinking them through. Rumour has it some of them may even be attempting to apply the unorthodox strategy of coming equipped with an understanding of trans issues and the process of gender transition, though we have yet to see any hard evidence of this.
Later in the show, we'll be going onto Round 2, where Team Social Conservative competes with Team RadFem to see who can drive a trans person to suicide more quickly.
