[semi-sarcasm]Speaking of Paganism, this is a reminder to all Jews ITT that calling God "YHWH", refusing to say Yahweh out loud, or typing God like G-d is a form of idolatry/paganism by worshipping His "name" instead of Him. Also Mormonism is further from Christianity than Islam.[/semi-sarcasm]

I believe it's a sign of respect because we don't know how to pronounce his name, so we replace it verbally with the word Adonai, meaning Master. It is also done to show his role in certain matters. Sort of like how Christians, would refer to God as "Father".

I'm willing to listen to most Rabbis. I may give more attention to Orthodox and Messianic Orthodox over others though.

When speaking of God, Jews say HaShem which means The Name... God is too vast for us to understand completely however we can grasp the meanings of his names and call them sacred.
