From the Daily Matador:
Matadors Win Big in First Home Contest

The atmosphere was deafening this past Saturday as the Yuma Matadors took the field in front of thousands of screaming fans for their first-ever home game as a varsity athletic team competing in college football's Sequoia Conference. The spectacle began before dawn, when two dozen or so members of the newly-minted pep squad ran through campus carrying an effigy of a red stag, the mascot of RipNGrip State. By the time the sun went down, the score read 33-0 in favor of our Matadors, and an irrefutable statement had been made about Matadors football on this campus.

"It was utter insanity," said freshman defensive end Heath Berg. "I had no idea people would get so into this. There were people lined up outside with their chests painted while we were warming up in the morning."

Veterans' Memorial Stadium sold out, and a live stream in the cafeteria was well-attended by all reports. Adding to the atmosphere was the twenty-five-piece Matador Marching Band, founded this year in commemoration of the football team's return to varsity competition, which performed traditional pep songs in the stands and took the field at halftime with a Latin-infused field show that featured drum major Luis Gonzales dancing with the color guard in a uniform that seemed to be covered in tiny mirrors.

"The suit is intended to evoke the traje de luzes, the traditional uniform of the matador," said Gonzales. "It will be the default drum major uniform for all of our future shows, but for this first one we wanted to do something in honor of the team, so we extended the Matador theme to the show itself by having the color guard portray the bull and me the matador as they fight. It was a lot of fun."

Of course, the main event was the game, which did not disappoint as the Matadors' offense finally found a rhythm that allowed them to blow RipNGrip out of the water 33-0. The Matadors defense, which has yet to concede a score in three games, was equally impressive at keeping the offense on the field, allowing a grand total of one first down in what was a decidedly one-sided contest.

Quarterback Sabine Gerlach had a career day, throwing seventeen of twenty for two hundred yards and three touchdowns, two of which were caught by junior wideout Petra Stafford. Return man Albert Benjamin also logged a score on the kickoff to begin the second half, which would be the last touchdown to be scored as the offense would settle for field goals on two consecutive drives before coach Damien Cosworth decided enough was enough and put in his second team.

For his part, freshman quarterback Lanny Andrews did adequately in the fourth, throwing six for eleven and two first downs, though fellow freshman Geoffrey Mitchell fumbled with ten minutes to go in the fourth quarter to give the Red Stags their best chance at a touchdown for the whole game.

On defense, Clarissa Bartlett was in rare form, logging an interception and a sack, while sophomore linebacker Connie Nixon led the defense with six tackles, two for a loss, and a sack that resulted in a forced fumble. Bartlett's sack came midway through the third quarter and effectively sealed the Red Stags' fate when their starting quarterback had to be helped off the field; the extent of his injury is not known at this time.

With the win over RipNGrip, the Matadors break the top ten of NSCF 11 as one of ten undefeated teams, and the only team zero points against. With three conclusive games against three of the five other teams in the conference, Yuma appears poised to run away with the Sequoia unless either Istitai Shephor Unia or Karl Marx University can prove to be a challenge for the Matadors' defensive machine.

Interview notes, Utica head coach candidacy

Interviewee: Alex Hardison
Alex has a strong knowledge of the current roster, and -- being among the longest serving staff in the Utica Tigers gridiron football program -- is well-acquainted with typical school procedure, as well as tradition. This is all valuable as it lessens the chance of a lengthy "adjustment period".

Hardison's role as offensive co-ordinator since the retirement of Coach Zampese has seen him develop noticeably. His play-calling has become more daring, seizing on even minor opportunities with a ruthlessness that embodies the program's high expectations.

His favour toward the passing game would not be a hindrance, given the general wealth of talent at receiver, though there are concerns that he'd be inclined to air it out over making the best use of the program's depth at runningback.

Main obstacles to hiring Hardison are a limited capacity for defensive tactics, and the lack of a suitable replacement at offensive co-ordinator. The leading candidate to replace him at OC would be Toulalan, whose commitments to the national team would prohibit such a move. Neither Stockton nor Johnson is open to the idea, and Hollis' penchant for trick plays might not be a great fit.

Three games in and Utica share the lead in the Woodlands Conference with last season's closest rivals St Croix. Head coach Daniel Corsey will be pleased with his team following a blowout road win over their hated rivals the Wyverns, which they followed up with a low-scoring home win over newcomers Abricot, keeping the NSCF rookies out entirely in a shutout.

"It's been great so far. Last game we looked a bit toothless on offense, and we'll be looking into that, making sure that's not an oversight that could be exploited by better teams." Corsey said, when questioned over his team's struggles to convert their dominance of possession into points. "They made it difficult for us, and I see how. So now I'm going to be reviewing tape, talking to the guys, patching those holes. We have a long way to go, a lot of work to do."

The win over UArk, however, was typically open. At halftime, it looked like another shootout was developing, but Utica went back to the dressing rooms one score ahead. Whatever Corsey said to his team in the second half, it had the desired effect, as the home side were unable to get a single point on the board before the end of the game.

Anthony Channa's delight at his unit's dominance in the second half in Arkinesia would have been extended -- perhaps even topped -- by the Tigers' performance in their return to The Pit. "They didn't put a foot wrong today," Channa said. "Perfect execution."

Two safeties from Channa's unit capped an excellent display from his front seven. Zarate and Jackson's tackles behind the line of scrimmage in the third and fourth quarters respectively put a garnish of sorts on a sumptuous defensive showing. Even the touchdown the team got was largely thanks to Channa's defensive unit. Keenan Gibson's forty-four yard interception return put Hardison's offensive unit in the red zone as soon as they regained possession. A couple of short gains from Brown were followed by Hogan's short pass to Sawyer, and the signal caller did not shy away from sharing the praise. "The guys on defense really set that one up nicely from us." Hogan said. "We'd been struggling to get that close, so Keenan's return was a gamebreaker in a way."

The Plumeria Garden
Post Game Press Conference (Brief Excerpt)
Mosaic, Costa Aluria

-------------------------------

"Coach, we saw the Honu held out of the endzone for the first time since you joined the NSCF. Could you talk a little about the defensive struggle out there against the Nanooks?"

"Well, we knew coming into it that defense was one of the focuses of this Nanook team. I would definitely have like to have seen the guys get it into the endzone. It was a little frustrating for me watching on the sidelines; I was a little disappointed for the crowd. First home game of the season and we have 60,000 fans in the seats, and we can't put up a lot of points. I just hope we can keep the crowd excited for the upcoming home games. We need those fans behind us, and they really helped us on defense tonight. But the important thing is that when all was said and done, we had the higher number in the scoring column."

"Coach Carneghy, what positive notes from this game will you take into game preparations this week?"

"Well, like I mentioned, anytime you come out with a bigger number in that final score column than your opponent, that is a positive result. This is the highest level of competition in college football, so even though those four field goals aren't really exciting, the final result is great. Yeah, we didn't put up a ton of offense tonight—play was sloppy, we committed some turnovers, we didn't execute to our potential—but the only stat that matters is that one on the scoreboard. On the positive side of things, Ranger [Cisterns] didn't miss a single field goal, even that 55 yarder. So that is encouraging. Gives us some pretty good confidence knowing that we might be able to steal away a few points when other teams might be punting. Overall, I think the encouraging thing is that we came in on a short week and got the W, and live to fight another day."

"You alluded to the sloppy play on the offensive side of the ball. What does this team need to work on most as you look to your next game against Queen Valley University?"

"Well, I think that is a tough question to answer without looking at the film. I mean, obviously we want to cut out the turnovers. It was the second week in a row where Ezra Talbot threw an interception, and the fumble at the six yard line didn't help any. Then there's the penalties. Just stupid mistakes, really. Clearly we need to double down on the offense. We were used to scoring forty points a game before we entered the NSCF, so clearly our film study isn't quite getting us the opportunities that we would like coming in. That's the nature of this sport—it doesn't boil down to just one thing. There are lots of things going on, and we can never perfect everything that we would like to. But as long as we have more positive plays than negative, we are headed in the right direction."

"Coach, South Seas University heads on the road yet again in matchday four. What have been the struggles of a road-heavy schedule early in the season?"

"You know, I don't worry too much about the home versus away split. We know it evens out, and so we know that we have a bunch of home games coming up. Certainly I think the outcome of the Ramusok game might have been a bit different if we had the home crowd behind us. But the truth of the matter is you got to get wins no matter where you are—in a friendly, neutral, or hostile crowd."

"You mentioned that your team is accustomed to scoring 40 points or more prior to this season. What has been your biggest surprise to this point of your NSCF experience?"

"You know, for a team that focuses so much on offense, the real surprise of the season has been the lights out play of our defense. I think Coach Fisafua has done a stellar job of getting the defensive unit ready on a week to week basis. Three weeks into the season and we allowed only three points in two games combined. Sure we had a bit of a hiccup with Ramusok, but overall it would be hard to be happier about our defensive performance. It just goes to show you that once we get the kinks in our offense ironed out, this team is going to be tough to beat. You combine a great offense with the way our defense has been playing, and look out."

"Coach, we saw the Sporting World voters move South Seas University up in the ranks despite the close loss to Ramusok Capital. How do you think the voters will respond to seeing this team struggle against a lesser opponent?"

"Fans get hyped up about rankings. You guys in the media get hyped about rankings. But let me make one thing clear. This game is not about some imaginary number in some magazine. This game is about wins and losses. You get enough of the former, and you keep playing deeper into the season. The funny thing about rankings is they have a way of adjusting themselves based on how many wins and losses you get. Am I worried about where we are ranked after week three? Nope. I'm worried about where this team is ranked following week seventeen."

Somewhere in the Antslinngs Islands
Antslinngs Islands Territory, Trendstart

The villa that Fruity Arellano had said had once been his exotic home away from home was perched on the side of a hilltop, one of many hills scattered throughout the ladscape of Antslinng, the main island of the Antslinngs Islands. A small path carved into the hillside led from the main road to the house, and Alexandra had been told by Fruity to drive up the road as far as a sign that said "Trespassers will be shot on sight," which he told the girls to ignore because it was just one of his scare tactics, to make sure no one made to snoop the place.

"All right, now we walk," Fruity said.

The four of them walked past the sign and continued on up the road until the arrived at a large paved area that had to be the villa's outside parking lot. "All right, the two of you stay over there in the bushes," Fruity told Destiny and Alexandra. "You, you're coming with me," he told Allison. The two of them walked over to the door, and then Fruity went down on his knees. "Remember the motion detectors?" Fruity asked Allison. "We gotta get down on our knees while we're going to the alarm controls. And the dogs are also loose within the house. If you meet one, don't move. Tell me where it is, and let me distract it."

"Oh, shit," Allison muttered. Fruity squeezed into the dog flap--a hard task given his bulky body--but eventually he managed to get his whole body through, and now Allison had no choice but to follow him inside. "Remember, Allie, this is for Cornelius," she muttered to herself before going through the dog flap herself.

"All right, now stay down," Fruity said. "See that blinking white light? That's the motion detector. Don't move in front of it, or else game's over."

"Okay, so we're in the house now," Allison said. "How do we get to the alarm controls?"

"Just follow my lead, bitch," Fruity said. "I got this." Right then, a guard dog--what looked to be a mix of a mastiff and a doberman--walked in front of Fruity and Allison. "Oh, shit," he muttered. "Nobody move a muscle."

"What the fuck are we supposed to do now?" Allison asked.

"Uh, run," Fruity said. "Don't follow me now!" he shouted as he crawled towards the dog. "Go the opposite direction of where I'm going!" Fruity loped off to the left, and the dog soon followed him, barking all the way. Allison crawled to the right, but since Fruity didn't say where she was supposed to go next, she was soon lost within the massive interior of the villa. She didn't dare stand up to see where she was for fear of setting off the motion detectors.

"Fruity?" Allison called out. "Where the hell are you? I'm fucking lost!"

She felt something sniffing at her backside. She didn't want to look for fear of knowing what was behind her, but curiosity got the better of her common sense, and she turned around. It wasn't a guard dog at all; it was Fruity. "What the fuck are you doing smelling my ass, man!?" Allison demanded.

"Hey, it's how dogs greet each other, bitch," Fruity said. "Mm! it's also how they find the dog that they want to mate with. Man, I'm just looking at your ass and I'm like, I wanna mount that bad girl!" Fruity then tried to clamber up Allison's back, but she shook him off.

"Hey, hey, hey! We're not fricking dogs, man!" she said. "Besides, I'm not the type of girl that enjoys anal. What happened to that dog that you lured away, anyway?"

"He's sleeping off a whole raw steak fresh from the freezer," Fruity replied. "All right, back to business now. Resist the temptation in front of you, Fructuoso!"

"Shit, man, just tell me where the controls are," Allison said.

"Oh, yeah, about that, that's the reason why I needed you," Fruity said. "This alarm, it's designed so that one hacker can't disable it just like this." He snapped his fingers to prove his point. "This one needs two people to disable it at the same time, or else it trips. I had them put in opposite ends of the house just so something like that can't happen without good coordination. But since I had it installed, I know how to bypass it. Ah, here's your spot now." Allison saw an average alarm panel with the standard ten numerical keys; nothing that said that it was some kind of advanced alarm.

"All right, what you need to do is cut the red, green, and yellow wires at the same time, and you should cut it when I cut it," Fruity said. "Here's a knife to help you with that." He handed Allison what looked to be a dull butter knife. "I'll go look for the other panel. Don't do anything naughty while I'm away!" As Fruity loped off away from Allison, she heard him shout, "No! Bad boy! No more steaks for you!"

"All right, I'm at the second panel," Fruity called out. "What did I say the wires we should cut again were?"

"Uh, red, green, and yellow," Allison replied.

"Oh, crap," Fruity said. "What? What did you do?" Allison asked.

"I didn't do anything, I'm just color-blind," Fruity replied.

"This is not the time for jokes, man," Allison said.

"All right, all right, I'm just playing," Fruity said. "Once I say cut, cut. Got that?"

"I think so," Allison muttered, looking at the butter knife that Fruity had handed to her. It looked hopelessly dull. "Oh, God, I hope it works," she said. She took off the panel cover and grabbed the three wires that she needed to cut. "Okay, man, I'm ready," she called out.

"Okay, on three," Fruity said. "One, two, three, cut 'em!"

Allison ran the butter knife over the three wires. She was surprised with the ease with which it cut through the plastic and copper, and soon all three wires were cut. "Did you cut yours?" Fruity asked. "Cause I cut mine, and I don't know if it worked or not."

"I think it worked, man," Allison said. "I don't hear any alarms or anything."

"Oh, that's good. All right, get your girl friends over here; we've got a cellar to smash open."

Destiny, Alexandra, and Allison were now standing in front of the door leading to the villa's cellar, along with Fruity. Fruity had taken a large antique-looking key and inserted it into the cellar door lock, which opened with a mournful groan. The tunnel to the cellar was moist, damp, and humid, but Fruity soldiered on deep into the tunnel, and the three girls followed close behind.

"Over there," Fruity said, pointing at a bit of wall between two wine casks. "That's where I stashed the gold and diamonds and all that. I bricked it up pretty well, but thankfully I've got a sledgehammer handy for cases like this. Help me move the casks first before I break them with my sledghammering." They shifted the casks out of the way, and then Fruity made the first strike at the wall with the sledgehammer. He was able to make a small hole in the wall before he handed over the sledgehammer to Destiny. "Your turn," he said.

"Oh, boy," Destiny muttered, and then she took a swing at the wall. Her first strike took out as much mortar and brick as Fruity did in all the time that he had been wrecking the wall.

"Damn, girl, you got talent for this!" he told Destiny, who ignored the comment and continued hammering at the wall. Finally, they managed to make a hole big enough for a person to walk through comfortably, and Fruity walked inside and began taking out gym bags filled with ingots of gold and uncut diamond stones. "What are y'all standing there?" he asked. "Help me out here!"

Destiny shrugged at Alexandra and Allison, and then the three of them began helping Fruity with taking out the bags and bringing them out to Alexandra's minivan. Finally, only one bag remained in the cellar, and Fruity took it with him as he went up the stairs to the house. The three girls made to follow him, but then, just before they got out of the cellar, Fruity said, "I think it's best if we parted ways here."

"Huh? What are you talking about?" Alexandra asked.

"I'm sorry, girls," Fruity said, "but this part of the journey I have to take by myself. I hope you'll understand why I'm doing this, but probably not today." Then he closed the door on the girls' faces, and he locked the door.

"Fruity! Why the fuck are you doing this?" Alexandra shouted from beyond the door.

"So sorry, girls, but you helped me, not the other way around," Fruity replied. "Toodaloo, motherfuckers," he said as he reconnected the alarm wires--he had actually just pulled them out instead of cutting them--and when the system detected a break in the circuit, alarms blared all over the villa and its surrounding estate.

"Well, at least we won't die here," Alexandra said.

Stellar Defense Lead Tech On

Coming into the season, many expected that if the Raiders were going to have success in their inaugural NSCF season, that the offense would be the unit that would be leading the squad to victory. However that has far from been the case a third of the way through the conference schedule, with Tech's defense turning in performances that would make the likes of Rejistania proud. Not quite happy with merely putting up good outings and hoping that the offense would find a way to click and secure the win, the defense pitched a shutout in front of a packed Celestial Stadium, keep Sondestadt from ever getting into the Raider half of the field for the entire game. Even more amazing was that Sondestadt finished the game with under a hundred yard on offense and minus three yards rushing.

Perhaps it is the exotic look the the 4-2-5 that has their opponents perplexed, with the ability to shift from a typical nickel defense, to one where three safeties are on the field. That flexibility of the formation allows for a variety of coverages and exotic blitzes that have been getting to the opposing quarterbacks time and time again. Offensive coordinators for the opposition have to be becoming frustrated with the way that the Raiders switch out their personnel so quickly to adjust to whatever packages they try to counter with. It is noteworthy just how well coached and prepared that the squad is that they are able to sub on the fly and change into the various forms of the formation, with 2 middle linebackers for a run stop coverage or three corners and pressing for a pass prevent. The hours spent in the film room and on the practice field have definitely proved their dividends with how the unit is performing.

The offense is doing its job even if it s not remarkable in doing so, turning more into a ball control offense than anything. That does mean however that the running game has started to take hold along with the short passing routes. The big plays from this offense are still missing, with the team having yet to have a single play go for over thirty yards, all of their scoring drives having taken at least four minutes off the clock. If they are able to find ways to break off those big runs or get the deep pass game going, the opposition will have to watch out, for this could become a considerably better and more difficult team to play against. Given the way that the locals and student body came out in support of the Raiders, that home laden schedule in the second half of the season looks even more inviting.

First though they will need to take on Conquerer's Academy from The Sword Bloke on the road, to give themselves a little separation from the field and try to keep pace with Valor Coast and Royal University Roma, who lead the conference and play in Vettera this weekend. Every week has seen the Raiders get just a little bit better and this needs to continue to be the trend, as the Academy will be looking to try and catch the team looking forward to their own matchup with Valor Coast.

Queen's sign QFC 100 recruit

Barrie Ball is headed to Kingston.

QFC 100 Alexandre Hilton has committed to Queen's Golden Gaels. The 6'2, 219 pound fullback from Barrie, Ontario, will join the OUA team for the 2019 season.

"Alex is the premier Running Back in not only this year's recruiting class for us, but for OUA as well," commented Gaels Head Coach Matthew Sheahan. "His skillsets, limitless in potential and strengths, makes him extremely desirable with him here."

"He is a phenomenal blocker, a runner and a wrecking ball that I expect from a running back of this calibre. He also was an outstanding student and a leader on and off the field. He was exactly someone I was looking for, and I'm more than proud to have him wear the proud tricolour for his time in the university."

Image

Hilton joins the Golden Gaels after completing his high school career at Tresham Secondary School Titans in North Barrie, at the Georgian Bay Secondary Athletic Association (GBSAA). In addition to Titans, he has also suited up for the Barrie Barons of the Ontario and Frontenac Varsity Football League (OFVFL).

On his part, the choice was relatively easy, because of several factors involved behind the decision.

"I wanted to attend a school that had everything I was looking for, not only as an athlete but also as a student," explained Hilton, of his commitment to a school. "Queen's is an institution that gives me both near home, in both academics and athletics."

"With both my parents alumni to Queen's, I knew what the institution provides for the students to succeed. As someone who wants to be a surgeon, I believe that it helps me to surround myself and learn with the best of peoples in a close-knit setting. With Queen's being one of Calania's most storied institutions, I am more than convinced that opportunity's there for those to succeed and to enjoy."

Image

On top of it, Hilton believes in his coaching staff's abilities to coach him and his team to the best, as well as to guide him to future footballing endeavours.

"I got to know the coaching staff well over the course of two years, and believe that as a group they can elevate my abilities to the another level," expressed Hilton. "This program has a long history of fielding competitive programs with many football players both in QFL and in overseas."

"When I went to Cornwall to visit the campus and facilities, I saw that all the players, together, were all accepting and friendly to each other. Their sense of camaraderie, in all sense, was admirable and I was further convinced by it. I am extremely excited to find a place where I call home for next few years, four or five. This is where I'll find my place for success, and I'd love to enjoy it with my present and future comrades."

"Come on, get up! Move on to the next play guys!"

"He's down! Who is that? Son of a bitch, it's Ezra...Goose, it's Ezra!"

"Damn it. Why him? Alright, alright. Hey! Side Judge! Timeout, Timeout!"

Goose Carneghy rushed out onto the field. Now was hardly the time for an injury, and Ezra Talbot was hardly the guy he wanted injured. Nobody wants an injury, of course, but especially not to the star quarterback, the future of the team. Talbot had been highly recruited out of Callipygia High School, a hometown product for the South Seas University Honu. Now, he sat grimacing on a football field many miles away, grimacing in pain and holding his right shoulder.

The game against Queen Valley University started great. On consecutive drives, teh Honu marched down the field and scored. The first score ended in a rushing touchdown for senior runningback Samuel Marhshall. The second drive stalled after a third down incompletion, but still ended with three points on the board following a Ranger Cisterns field goal. This was a game where the offense had come together and were moving the ball with the ease that the coaches had wanted all season. It looked as if all of the preparation and film study had started to pay off for the Honu offense. Talbot himself already had 34 yards rushing after breaking a long run in the first drive. His dual threat ability really had been paying dividends against the Golden Eagles.

And then the play happened.

It had started as any other play, with Talbot working out of the shotgun on a zone read run. When the Golden Eagle defense had collapsed in on Marshall, Talbot pulled the pull for the keeper and what appeared to be another big gain. He rolled right, spun past defensive end Leonard Armstrong, and made one cut to get upfield. As he had been taught to do, Talbot maintained his eye contact upfield. But somewhere in the commotion he had lost track of linebacker Mike Gardner, who delivered a great hit for the tackle, laying his facemask into Talbot's left shoulder pad. The blow caught Talbot off guard, and losing his feet, he fell right shoulder first into the field at Lockord Stadium. Now, Talbot sat, just clinching his shoulder.

"Clement, get Bristol ready to enter the game!"

As Talbot walked gingerly back to the sidelines, he was greeted by a team of trainers rather than the Honu teammates he had hoped for. They led him to a section of the Honu bench that had been cleared out and began the barrage of questions.

"Can you rotate your arm like this?"

"Does it hurt to bend your arm and touch your shoulder?"

"Are you able to do any shoulder curls?"

"Let's get him to the locker room. We need to take off his pads."

Once inside the locker room, the questions continued as the trainers worked on one thing or another. A large bruise was prominent on Talbot's throwing shoulder as tape went flying and needles injected near the injury. But it did not matter what the trainers did; Talbot was in a bunch of pain.

On the field, the coaches had decided on third stringer Bristol Gabriel to replace Talbot, due primarily to his more recent snaps at the college level. Junior Bishop Pearson was more of a project quarterback who had taken the position as second stringer primarily due to being a year younger than Gabriel, who had a history as a game manager rather than a game changer. Still, on this day, it didn't matter who took over at quarterback. Gabriel got his chances into the late third quarter before ultimately being replaced by Pearson. The results were the same. Without Talbot taking the snaps, the offense was rattled, scared, inept, ineffective....flaccid. What had started as a great offensive showing had turned into an embarrassment at the NSCF level. Though the Honu defense did their part to keep South Seas university in the game, they just couldn't give the Honu offense enough of an edge.

In the locker room, Talbot could not know how his teammates were faring on the field. "So what's the prognosis doc?"

The lead trainer clinched his jaw together and just shook his head.

Sporting World

Why the NSCF Top Ten are the Top Ten

For the second straight season, the staff at Sporting World magazine, the fair and balanced sports magazine, are conducting a poll to name the top teams in NSCF. Season 11 has been one of the most exciting seasons yet of NSCF action and Sporting World has covered all of it, including last Saturday's 15 to 6 defensive struggle between Army Academy and St. Augustinus, a game where neither team scored a single touchdown.

This week, there was an especially tight race for spots 1 through 4 in our poll. #1 Utica University narrowly edged out the competition, returning to the top of our poll. Utica currently leads NSCF in points scored by a lopsided margin. The Osarian university is currently averaging 36.25 points per game. Quarterback Brendon Hogan and Tailback Romeo Brown have combined to produce touchdown after touchdown this season for the legendary Woodlands Conference school. Last season may have ended in disappointment for the Tigers, but they appear poised to contend for the NSCF Championship, once again.

That is, however, if they can beat out #2 Universite St. Croix. The Bleu et Blanc have finally put it all together this season. Coach Dong Joon Park's team has dominated all 4 of their opponents so far, conceding less than 4 points per game thus far while averaging 30.5 points per game. At the beginning of the season, we expected the Woodlands Conference to be the strongest conference in NSCF this season. Surprisingly, this has not proven to be the case, which is the reason why we have decided to rank Utica and St. Croix 1-2 in our poll going into their big showdown this weekend in The Pit.

The top ranked team not from the Woodlands Conference is #3 St. Augustinus. The Sanctii school won this past weekend at War Memorial Stadium to improve to 4-0. Linebacker Alistair Black's continued development has made the Priest defense even more dominant. Meanwhile, Andreas Polus seems to have cut down on the number of chances that he takes on the field. Instead, the extremely talented but inconsistent Sanctii quarterback has been content to hand off to his backs on most downs. Andrew Fizelle, the IesusisGodistani newcomer, has been a revelation this year. With Fizelle and Donatien Dumoulin sharing the load, the St. Augustinus offense has been lethally effective with their new-found ball control mentality. But, is it just a matter of time before the old reckless gunslinger Andreas Polus resurfaces?

While they are the defending NSCF champions, #4 Ramusok Capital University have had their share of close calls this year. Their narrow 3-0 victory over unheralded Chena University, coming just 2 weeks after a surprisingly close game against South Seas University has us questioning whether the defending champs still have it. Their point differential of positive 31 is the worst of any undefeated school and is worse than 5 one-loss schools. While they received more first place votes from our voters than St. Augustinus, they were ranked surprisingly low on some ballots and thus have fallen to 4th.

Another of the undefeated teams is #5 Valor Coast University, who compete in the relatively weak Mineral Conference. Nonetheless, most of the voters feel that Valor Coast is for real. While Valor Coast did not compete in Season 10, they were semi-finalists back in Season 9. While they could only manage a 6-3 victory over the mediocre Conquerer's Academy, their 41-7 victory over Ancient University Roma last week was impressive. Averaging nearly 30 points a game and allowing around 4, Valor Coast look poised to win the Mineral Conference and return to the playoffs.

#6 Stoneshore College is the other team from Cosumar. While the Bruins have also struggled to achieve the style points that are expected out of first-rate NSCF teams, they have a better point differential than the Dragons and have just 1 loss. While Stoneshore appear unlikely to repeat as conference champions, Walter Hufnagel's team continues to win more often than not.

Our very own #7 Army Academy have looked impressive in the deep Celestia Conference this year. In their second season of NSCF competition, Xavier Gray's Cadets have matured into a more consistent team. While they may not have beaten St. Augustinus, they did keep Polus & company out of the end zone for 60 minutes. The only question mark for Army Academy at the moment is their ability to win the big one. They have consistently failed to win big games in NSCF, which makes us wonder whether they are good enough to beat the traditional powers.

Our writers agree that #8 Ceneisis Naval Academy is the best team in the Zephyr Conference, but their 3-7 home loss in Week 3 against Fountain City is a black mark on them in the eyes of most of our writers. We consider competition in the Zephyr Conference to be relatively weak, yet nobody in the conference seems to be able to win every game. The 20 to 7 win at Chattahoochee State, however, exemplified what the backers of Ceneisis at our magazine see in them, persuading us to rank them in our Top 10 this week.

#9 Yuma University is undefeated and have not conceded a single point so far in NSCF competition. However, they are competing in the Sequoia Conference. Not a single team in the Sequoia Conference played a game in any of the first 10 seasons of NSCF, so we don't consider the conference particularly strong. So far, they have scored an average of 19.75 points per game and have not allowed a single point. That is impressive, even in one of the weakest conferences in the history of NSCF. However, most of our writers question whether their female star players would hold up against a first-rate program. We'll find out the answer to that question after conference play ends, but we suspect that our fears regarding the safety of Yuma's players will turn out to be well-founded.

Finally, #10 Mar Sara Tech has won 3 straight games in the Mineral Conference after a narrow 14 to 10 loss to Ancient University Roma in Week 1. While the elves of Valanora are known for their strong performances in soccer and ice hockey, nobody thinks of football when they think of the Atlantian Oceanian nation. Nonetheless, Mar Sara seems to be improving on a weekly basis. While we don't expect them to actually beat Valor Coast, it would not surprise us if that game were closer than most people expect.

What do you think of our latest Top 10 poll? Be sure to tell us in the comment section.

Game Recap - Golden Eagles

Last night, the Golden Eagles escaped with a win at home playing South Seas. The game started in the wrong direction for our Golden Eagles, but they managed to get back into the game after Ezra Talbot was injured on a monster hit by Mike Gardner, a second string out of Conrad High in West Maple. The play had started out as a routine play for the Eagles. Larry Owens had clogged the middle, trying for the stop Marshall who had already scored for the Honu. Instead, Talbot keeper it, eyeing a big play for the opponent.

Leonard Armstrong had eyed Talbot, preparing to make the stop on third down. After escaping a lineman, he was prepared to make a stop on the line of scrimmage, but was an inch away from the tackle as Talbot cut upfield. However, it was Gardner who was prepared, running full speed ahead to finish the drive. He leaped and put Talbot into the ground. He and his teammates got up and celebrated the hit on a stop that would ultimately prevent Honu from scoring again. Even though they were still down by ten, the Eagles were happy about their chances of scoring soon.

However, the crowd stayed silent after the hit, knowing immediately that Talbot was done for the game (probably much more) after the hard fall.

Momentum changed after that. The defensive line took care of the rest, forcing the two backups into pressure often. Although most times they were able to get a pass out of the pocket, The defensive line recorded a total of 5 sacks after what is now being infamously called "The Stop", referencing Gardner's hit. When interviewed after the game, he replied, "You never mean to hurt someone, but I wanted to stop the drive. That's what I did." Before the half, Ward threw a touchdown to Jordan Parrish, and the last touchdown was courtesy of David Garcia, who scored on the goal line.

This is being treated as a huge win for the Golden Eagles, who desperately needed one to stay competent in a very competitive conference. It is also a great upset win that the Golden Eagles can put on their resumé and can boost their momentum going to play Chena University.

Nanooks Held Scoreless as Ramusok Slips Away
Story by Wilbur Elias

Ramusok, Cosumar—An opportunity to take down the number one team in the land slipped through the hands of the Chena University Nanooks during the NSCF matchday four. Despite holding the Dragons scoreless until the final play of the game, the Nanooks failed to record a point and lost a heartbreaker of a game.

To say that Chena University held its own would be a massive understatement. In what many analysts projected as a blowout in favor of Ramusok Capital was anything but. Playing behind an inspired defensive unit, the Nanooks had hope until an Ivan Mendelev field goal scored the only points of the game as time expired.

The Nanook defense had all of the highlight plays for Chena University, as they forced three turnovers and blocked a previous Mendelev field goal attempt earlier in the game. But with the offensive woes continuing, the Nanooks fell short of a win once again. The triple option run game was almost comically ineffective at times, and the offensive unit had struggles with sloppy play of their own. With the run game stifled early, Nanook quarterback Q.J. Abrams threw two interceptions, and fullback Charles Edenshaw lost a second half fumble.

It was over when...
It aint over 'til its over. As regulation expired, Ramusok Capital kicker Ivan Mendelev kicked the only points of the game through the uprights.

Asked about the near miss after the game, a visibly depressed head coach August Caligula stated, "That was a hell of a way to lose. It just hurts to take the number one team straight up for 59 minutes and 58 seconds. We knew if we could just hang around long enough, we had a chance to steal one from them. Well, the opposite was also true. We let them hang around with us too long, and they got us."

With the loss, the Nanooks fall to 1-3 in their inaugural season in the NSCF. They will hope to resurrect their season over the second half of conference play. The Nanooks host Queen Valley University in matchday five.

RCU drops in rankings after sloppy low-scoring win over Chena
By Ettis Erstwhitz, Senior Copy Editor

POST-GAME REPORT
RAMUSOK - Dreadful field conditions and gruesome weather caused the RCU Dragons and Chena Nanooks to rewind to a different era of football, a time when each and every hard-fought point was of utmost significance and one field goal could decide a game.

History was made in the fourth week of the NSCF 11 season... only not in the way you would expect from a defending champion. The horrendous offensive execution from both sides led to a new mark for the lowest-scoring game in NSCF history. 3-0. They went all night without either side even coming close to the endzone. The Dragons broke the tedious deadlock at the last possible moment with a long field goal as time expired.

A newcomer would have been hard-pressed to believe they were watching the #1 college football team in the world. It comes as no surprise that the Sporting World voters punished RCU for making them endure such a cringe-worthy game.

Tobias Engel continued his up-and-down season at the helm of the Dragons' offense. He had a poor debut against Queen Valley State, but seemed to be growing in confidence after really clicking with the offense in wins over South Seas and Stoneshore. But his bleak three-interception performance against Chena has some fans clamoring for back-up gunslinger Enok Rye, even though the team is still undefeated under Engel.

"It would be easy to blame the weather," quarterback Tobias Engel said. "I've never played in such thick fog and so much mud. The footing was bad, all of a sudden you'd hit a water puddle and sink down. But it goes without saying that I could've done a lot better regardless. A couple of those interceptions were bad decisions on my part, and I take full responsibility for putting the team in bad positions there. I've just got to keep working. I'm confident that I will continue to get better with time. This was a great learning experience for me and I'm just thrilled to have gotten the win."

Hanging with the first-place Dragons (4-0) for 59.9 minutes, Chena (1-3) almost pushed this mess to overtime, but the Nanooks managed only 159 yards while going nowhere nearly all night. The Nanooks never entered the red zone.

The only scoring drive started on the Nanooks' 32 with just under two minutes left, after Chena punted from deep in their own territory. Engel drove the Dragons into outer field goal range with completions of 21, 11 and 16 yards to go-to receiver Akim Fjara. Coach Darren Howard called a time-out with two seconds left after Avery Broddick centered the ball at the 28 yard line.

Kicker Ivan Mendelev, who had been blocked from the same 45 yard distance earlier, came through to prevent a catastrophic loss. The soaked, huddling masses at Capital Coliseum breathed a collective sigh of relief as the ball sailed through the uprights.

After Capital Coliseum hosted five high school games the day prior, crews hurriedly put down a new layer of sod atop the chewed-up turf for this game. After a day of steady rain on the new sod that had been in place for less than 24 hours, players compared to the conditions to playing in sand at the beach. The rain also washed away nearly all the yard lines on the new grass by halftime. As if this wasn't enough, a thick ominous fog had permeated the stadium by the second half.

Late in the second quarter, Chena punter Harlow Summers' kick from out of his own endzone came straight down and plunged in the drenched turf like an arrow, burying itself several inches deep. A few minutes later, the RCU offense had moved that same ball into field goal range, but Chena senior Riley Peterson managed to leap high enough to get a few outstretched fingers on the kick and cause it to fall short. The Dragons' only other trip into scoring range was cut short with 4:16 left in the 3rd quarter when Tobias Engel's wobbly pass for Lucas Castillo was picked off by Sinclair Seward. Castillo had slipped and fallen in the mud as he hit the cut in his route, allowing Seward an uncontested play on the ball.

Despite the clear impact of the field conditions and weather, Sporting World voters had no mercy on the Dragons. The poll's voters dropped the undefeated Horizon Conference leaders down to 4th, citing the closeness of RCU's wins and "questioning whether the defending champs still have it." As much as I love RCU, it's hard to dispute these points and it's hard to justify ranking us ahead of Utica, who are rolling through their schedule with an average margin of victory of over 26 points. And as great as our defense has been (allowing less than 10 points per game), our offense - especially our new quarterback - needs to show a bit more prowess to prove that these Dragons can still breathe fire.

I'm not concerned about some arbitrary number that a bunch of clueless writers have assigned to us," Head Coach Darren Howard said. "That changes every week. The only numbers that matter to me are our number of wins and number of losses. Right now, we have four and zero - so I'm pleased. If we keep winning, the rankings will take care of themselves."

Look for Ramusok Capital to get the big win the voters are looking for this week. The Dragons will travel to San Jose Guayabal to take on the last-place Universidad Nacional (0-4). We should be able to defeat these guys with ease and some style points to boot. If we don't, well, it only confirms Sporting World's diminished confidence in our team.

Be sure to tune in to cheer for the Dragons on CSBNu at 4 p.m. Cosumar-time on Sunday. Until then, may the sun shine bright on your day, Ramusok. Thank you for reading your official student newspaper on campus: The Roaring Dragon.

Talbot Injury Raises Questions for Honu
Story by Abraham Shepherd

Mosaic—When the South Seas University Honu take the field later today against Stoneshore College, it is uncertain who will take the first snap from center. An injury to Ezra Talbot forced the starting quarterback from last week's game Queen Valley University. The injury is being reported as a separated shoulder on Talbot's throwing arm. While the Honu may have breathed a sigh of relief that Talbot did not fracture a clavicle or tear his rotator cuff, the prognosis from team doctors does not remain so certain. A separated shoulder is one of the more difficult injuries to place a timeline on, as some individuals return in just a couple of weeks while other injuries linger for months.

It is not particulary welcoming news for a team that started with a lot of promise but has fizzled out in recent weeks. After Talbot left last week's game, the Honu offense became terribly inefficient, and failed to record another point. Making matters worse for South Seas University is Horizon Conference opponent in Stoneshore College. Stoneshore is currently ranked number six overall by Sporting World magazine.

The Honu have two options to replace Talbot behind the center. In matchday four's loss, it was third string Bristol Gabriel who got the first shot but was ultimately pulled in favor of the less refined Bishop Pearson. Gabriel, your prototypical game manager, might have enough experience to lead the team on the field, but don't expect huge numbers out of his performance. On the other hand, Pearson is the more explosive player yet sometimes makes poor decisions.

Head Coach Goose Carneghy failed to name a starting quarterback in Talbot's absence during a mid-week media report. Instead, he offered this: "We're still evaluating both of our backup quarterbacks at this stage of the game. They both have their benefits and their detractors. That was part of the reason we went forward with Talbot in the first place—he was just heads and shoulders above the other two at this stage in their college careers. It's really going to be the responsibility of this whole team to step up their game."

Carneghy went on to say he hasn't ruled out the possibility of utilizing both quarterbacks in today's game. "You know, I think there might be an opportunity here to bring in a package of plays for each quarterback and try to keep the Stoneshore guessing—you know, to play the mismatches in whatever defense they give us." It would be a very risky and unorthodox move for the Honu to utilize a two quarterback system, as most analysts believe this prevents one quarterback in getting into a rhythm. As the old football adage says, if a team has two quarterbacks, it has zero quarterbacks.

No matter who is under center, the Honu will undoubtedly lean on their above average running game to keep the game with Stoneshore close. Senior Samuel Marshall and freshman Jonas Talbot have provided an effective one-two punch so far this year. Especially noteworthy is each back's ability to be useful in the short passing game, a scenario that has kept opposing defenses on their heels. Today's game may also see additional work from 225 pound power back Sterling Sparrow.

Kickoff for today's game is scheduled for 4:05 PM local time.

Valanora Times
Raiders Look To Seize First

Mar Sara Tech took to the road, full of confidence and vigor following their outstanding home opener, going towards the shores of The Sword Bloke fully believing that they were the favorites to win. However, that win would not come easy, with Conquerer's Academy playing up the home field advantage to the best of their abilities. What the Raiders walked into when they took the field was a buzzsaw of a stadium atmosphere, like that of the Seattle Seahawks in the RLverse's NFL. It obviously rattled the team, as on the opening kick they muffed the kick and had to start the drive at their own ten. It was the first of many uncharacteristic mistakes from the Raiders in the first half, that saw the team only manage a pair of field goals on the offensive side of the ball. The team went to the half trailing, 6-9 and looking quite lethargic.

Whatever the coaches said or didn't say to the team at half time really seemed to light a fire underneath the team, although they surprised everyone when they pulled an onside kick to start the second half and managed to recover it. Given the short field, the Raiders found the endzone after three plays and took their first lead of the game. However it was not to last, as the Academy took the ensuing kickoff eighty-four yards and for a touchdown, retaking the lead at 13-16. That would be the last time that the Raiders would let the Academy score, or even get into their half of the field, as the defense suffocated them from there on out. The offense continued to spring to life, responding to the kickoff with a eighty-yard drive of their own, but fell short at the two yard line, settling for the field goal and the tie.

At the 10:31 mark in the fourth quarter the Raiders took the lead again, with Falavir finding Lasserelal on a quick slant pattern that the swift receiver took forty-five yards and for the score, marking the first time the team has produced a big play for a touchdown. When they got the ball back with seven and a half minutes left to play, the Academy was served a healthy serving of Ealoviel rushing the ball, taking the clock all the way down to zero and sealing the victory for the squad. Some would say that with the ball inside the opponents red zone, the Raiders should have scored again for style points, but apparently fair play is the name of the game for Laeésmyr and the rest of his staff.

For notching their third win in a row, the Raiders have broken into the top 10 of the poll conducted by Sporting World, though it was a bit of a backhanded compliment as the magazine went on to say they expect the Raiders to lose against Valor Coast this weekend and called the conference weak. The Raiders can shut a lot of that sort of talk down if they managed to defeat Valor Coast in Mar Sara and seize control of the conference. It will not be easy though, as Valor Coast proved last weekend why they are the best, trouncing Royal University Roman 41-7, the only team to have put a dent in the Raiders' record thus far. The defense will need to continue to be playing above their standard if the Raiders are going to pull of this upset and we will need to see continued development on the offense of finding those big plays. If the team can do these two things, the crowd in Mar Sara should be enough to push them over the edge and towards a victory, and first at the halfway stage of conference play.

Utica 10 3 7 13 33
Farrer 0 14 3 0 17

After a strong start, in which the Utica University Tigers scored on all of their first three drives, Daniel Corsey's side seemingly collapsed. The signs were there, when Darrian Young kicked a forty-one yard field goal; the Tigers offense had stalled, seemingly smothered by an effective Farrer defense.

"I'm still not sure what happened. Maybe we caught them off guard and they adjusted." Utica quarterback Brendon Hogan said. "Looking back, we probably could have done better than thirteen points."

On their opening possession, the Tigers relied heavily on Romeo Brown, whose powerful running caused problems for the Redmen defense. The threat of the big tailback made it easier for Hogan to complete short passes to get the Tigers within field goal range. The efforts of Mario Labrosse thwarted Hogan's attempts to find Derrick Fuller, and then Lewis Aneke, leaving Darrian Young to kick for three. Farrer took possession and in a drive littered with penalties, they were unable to get any momentum going, with the aggressive Tigers defense forcing them back to within ten yards of their own end zone. Seven plays later -- five of them short runs from Romeo Brown again -- and Hogan had connected with Valdez to put the Tigers ten points up.

Another three-and-done for Farrer, followed by a punt, and the Tigers resumed their relentless assault. The second quarter continuing much like the first had ended; Utica using their potent rush attack to set up coverage mismatches -- and thus, simpler passes -- for Hogan to pick out, but the progress was not quick enough, and when Hogan attempted to force a pass to Valdez, the drive broke down. Young kicked another field goal, though, to extend the Tigers' lead.

With the game looking like it was going to be another dominant win for the Tigers, perhaps they eased up. Maybe Farrer's frustrations boiled over and spurred them into action. It's hard to say. But what is certain is that the dynamic of the game was altered.

The Redmen were able to suddenly get the better of a defense that had kept them in check for the entire game to that point, scoring touchdowns on back to back drives in the second quarter, taking the lead going into the half.

"It was like being sucker punched." Corsey admitted. "Out of nowhere, they just turned it up to eleven and really made us pay for any complacency we may have been showing."

In the second half, Farrer received, and added another field goal following a methodical drive -- largely on the back of Michael Flint mixing short passes with handoffs to Marc Odobowaye, much like Utica's first half gameplan -- which exploited the inexperience in the Utica front seven.

With frustrations set to boil over, Andre Hawkins snatched the momentum away from the home side, stealing in front of Petrovic before racing the fifty-three yards back to the house. As Young drilled his kick through the uprights for the extra point, there was a noticeable change in body language on the sidelines. That the Tigers went on to score two more touchdowns in the final quarter -- a long bomb to Aneke, inexplicably wide open; and a slippery run for almost forty yards from elusive runningback Eriq Fuller -- was entirely unsurprising. The final score was convincingly in favour of Utica, but perhaps didn't accurately reflect the balance of play.

With the win, Utica retain their rank as NSCF's top team according to several news outlets, ahead of next week's clash against St Croix -- the consensus second ranked team -- in what will be a crucial game in the race for the Woodlands conference championship.

"We recovered well," said Alex Hardison, Utica Offensive Co-Ordinator. "The fourth quarter was really good for us, Fuller's run capped off a great game for us, and he puts a bit of pressure on Sawyer, so everybody wins. Except Farrer, I guess."

Looking ahead to the St Croix showdown, which will be taking place in The Pit, Corsey seems optimistic. "We have to be looking at that game as one we expect to win. We're the home team, I don't see any reason to not expect a win in The Pit."

1st Quarter
UTC - Darrian Young 24 yard field goal 3-0
UTC - Damian Valdez 2 yard pass from Brendon Hogan (Darrian Young kick) 10-0
2nd Quarter
UTC - Darrian Young 41 yard field goal 13-0
FAR - Dejan Petrovic 34 yard pass from Michael Flint (Go Ja Kweon kick) 13-7
FAR - Gabriel Fox 2 yard pass from Michael Flint (Go Ja Kweon kick) 13-14
3rd Quarter
FAR - Go Ja Kweon 21 yard field goal 13-17
UTC - Andre Hawkins 53 yard interception return (Darrian Young kick) 20-17
4th Quarter

From The Daily Matador:
Undefeated Matadors Record Fourth Straight Shutout

American football is an instantaneous sport, full of fourth-quarter comebacks, breakout performances and huge shifts of momentum that can occur in seconds, but sometimes a single event can still define an entire game. In the case of the Yuma Matadors' away contest against Istatai Shepor Unia, the first score of the game put the home team in a deficit they were unable to recover from, although it started at only two points.

On the opening kickoff, Istatai's kick returner knelt to earn touchback. On the next play, the wide receiver attempted a bubble screen but was shut down by Connie Nixon, lined up in the 46 defense, for a loss. On second down, Ora King blitzed and landed a sack on the quarterback, also for a loss. By this point, the Dolphins were working from their own nine yardline on third and twenty-one. Lacking for options, the offense attempted a reverse, which was initially successfully until Vonda Knowles successfully read the play and wrapped up the second ball carrier just as he graced the goal line, resulting in a safety. The ball placement was controversial, but the two points stood.

Receiving the ball on a safety punt, the Matadors drove quickly into the end zone for the first touchdown of the game. The balance of the game was more of what we've come to expect from the Matadors; slow-but-steady offence offset by a powerful, dynamic defence that is simply too fast on the ball to allow points. Clarissa Bartlett is making an early case for MVP as she runs the defence from on the field, shifting players left and right to plug gaps and create mismatches.

The Matadors have cracked the top ten and kept a goose egg in the points-against column across four games, but their place within the overall framework of NSCF remains to be seen. The Sequoia Conference was only reinstated for this season, and so far the Matadors have been the only team of any real note to come out of it. Thus far, the flawless technique and awareness of players like Clarissa Bartlett and Connie Nixon has been enough to hold off the superior size of their all-male opposition, but as the Free Republics' Sporting World suggests, their ability to stand up to bigger, badder opponents has yet to be tested.

With convincing wins against all but one of the five other teams in the Sequoia under their belts, the conference seems like a lock, but the Matadors need to focus if they're going to stand a chance against the likes of Utica University, the perennial number one in all of NationStates College Football, whom they will face at home in their first week of non-conference play.

Following a stumbling start in the first five games, Coach Bryan Welker had an awkward press conference to go to.

“Right, just as an introductory statement, I'm aware things have been rough. We expected a lot of adversity, though, being back in NSCF for the first time in several seasons. We're not completely off track, but we have some work to do to get back into the tangle here for the Woodlands Conference. Hit me with those questions.”

A reporter in the middle was quick to raise a hand. “Yes, Holly, go ahead.”

“Yes, Coach. A lot of people have been saying that the injury of starting running back Keith Johnson in matchday four has been a serious setback to the team. How have you been altering the game plan to accommodate for this unexpected lineup change?”

“Thanks, Holly. Well, the hope is that we can start incorporating Jason Masters a bit more into the gameplan with some motion sweeps and other motion-based running. Obviously, playing out of the pistol, there's not as many ways to change up your running game, but we're going to do what we can.”

“Thanks, Coach,” Holly replied, and another reporter was quick to jump in.

“You there,” Coach Welker said.

“Hi Coach, Jake Waters, Walker City Chronicle. Your defense has given up a lot of points, especially to rival Utica. Are you making any defensive adjustments in response?”

“Thanks for your question, Jake, and no, I don't think adjustments are necessary. We're working with our guys to make sure their heads are in the game more. Guys are blowing assignments and jumping for picks where they don't need to. We need that to stop.”

“Thanks for your answer, Coach,” Jake replied. Coach Welker cut in this time, “Well, I gotta go, thanks for your time, and I'll be available for questions after practice.”
