History: After the Hungarian Revolution of 1848, the Hungarian Diet was suspended and the Hungarian people levied taxes against in order to repay the cost of the revolution. Hungarian politicians were, through electoral manipulation, slowly replaced with Austrian or Czech statesmen. Hungary as an entity was divided into various Duchies, headed by the Hapsburg Royalty. In 1866, during a financial recession, Austria ceded to the pressure of Italy and sold some of its Italian lands to Italy. During the Congress of Berlin, Austria attempted to gain control of Bosnia to no avail. Because of these factors, Austria was no longer the dominant force in Germany. In 1884, the Hungarians launched another revolution, this time less successful and snuffed out early on.
