On December 19, 1975, East German soldier Werner Weinhold shot and killed two East German border guards during his escape attempt to defect to the Federal Republic of Germany in Thuringia. Both sides returned fire at each other, leading to dozens of casualties among the NVA and Bundeswehr. Weinhold was acquitted in West German courts and as such, tensions between the Warsaw Pact and NATO suddenly reached a high point. NATO tried to deploy more troops along the border, but it was too late.
Pact troops launched a massive invasion along the borders of the divided European Continent, hoping to overwhelm NATO troops with an unexpected surprise attack. This attack didn't go to plan, however, and the advance stalled, most prominently with the East German offensive. Now both sides are preparing for total war against each other, a war that will likely exceed the level of destruction of both the Second and First World Wars. Meanwhile, in Asia, a surge in American patriotism and anti-communism results in rapid re-escalation of US involvement in Asia.
North Korea looks at South Korea, ready for another war while Japan looks to defend its neighbor from Communism.
Rules:
No flaming, please.
No godmodding. You can't defeat an army of 100,000 professionals with 1,000 militiamen.
Take the time period into consideration. We cannot have railguns and giant AT-AT walkers in the 20th century.
The POD is in 1945. The Roman Empire could not have been brought back.
NATO and the Warsaw Pact still have to exist. There can't be a Tripartite Pact.

Description of Your Nation's Economy: The Prussian economy isn't the best out of the Pact's nations but it's a reasonable and somewhat powerful economy.
Description of Your Nation's Government: The Prussian government can be considered the least authoritarian out of all of the Warsaw Pact but it's still a dictatorship compared to the Western world. As Prussia is in the Soviets' sphere of influence, it is, predictably, Socialist and right-winged.
Population of Your Nation: 16,000,000
Alternate History: In 1945, during the Soviet offensives into Europe, most German civilians living in the eastern territories chose not to flee to the Western regions of Germany, choosing to stay. This was under threats of the German government, forcing them to stay against their will. The Eastern German Underground was also formed by the faltering Nazi government during this time to resist Soviet advance and harass their rear lines in the Eastern front. They defeated Germany anyway, but the Underground still stood. Later in the 1940s, most Germans in the east were forcibly pushed out of their homes, but this only swelled Underground recruitment.
A joint attack in Poland by the Home Army and EGU to free Poland in the last days of the war greatly shocked the Allies as well as the Soviets. Soviet rear lines were harassed to great effect but didn't have much strategic significance other than scare Soviet generals. The EGU, after the war, made a deal with the Soviets to stop fighting in exchange for an independent Prussian state but the Home Army continued to fight. Soon after, the SR Prussia was formed. Being communist and part of the Warsaw Pact, it naturally will help if a Third World War breaks out.
