Good, we defeated Hambiech. Who's next?

"Hell no, hell no. We travel to a nation that crushed us last tournament. How stupid were we to lose to a bunch of people that believe in a human that will die at most in 20 years and then the nation becomes a Republic. It's like us in the 1984-1986 period." said Yuri Kipriyanov, Grand Duke of Willemstad, colony of Estenia. He was responded quickly by sports specialist named Andrei Koprenov "Your Majesty, Gregoryisgodistan is different, excecutions is what keeps people alive and with psychological problems. Killing is making them fighters and damn strong. Our players have no chance goddamnit." a swift reply from Kipriyanov was "No, we won't lose to them again, or at least we won't get crushed wih 55-0 again. We shall take revenge, we must take revenge. Quick, our next match is in 23 hours, if we go by plane we will reach the place in 18 hours."

Kipriyanov in the meanwhile wrote a message to Gregory

To the Esteemed Gregoryisgodistani leader, Lord Almighty Gregory
From the Willemstaden leader, Andrei Kipriyanov

Greetings sir, I am Andrei Kipriyanov, Grand Duke of the Willemstaden Grand Duchy, vassal of the Estenian Tsardom, in the depths of Fale Ocean. Sir, I am not here for words of hate between us but to make an alliance between Willemstad and Gregoryisgodistan. Please don't prohibt an alliance with us just because we are an Estenian vassal kingdom. We still have our autonomy, somebody thaty doesn't know the government system that Estenia follows could thing that Willemstad is an indpendent nation. Anyway, if you don't accept an alliance whatsoever, we would still love a trade agreement by sending you 25 tons of Coal for 15 tons of iron if you have. I hope you have read this message.

With regards,

Andrei Kipriyanov

Grid Slaves Beat Eritai

Gregoryisgodistan's beloved Grid Slaves football team has defeated Eritai 13-0 for their sixth shutout in seven games. The defense forced five turnovers and sacked the Eritai quarterback seven times. Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino had three of those sacks, a forced fumble, and a recovered fumble in the end zone for a touchdown. Gregoryisgodistanis were seen celebrating in the streets and throwing gruel at elf statues in reference to the fact that Eritai is composed entirely of immortal elves and weird stuff like that. So they can't be crushed. Which is a shame because Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino would love to crush them. So would Enemy Crusher Porky Fatana and all the other Enemy Crushers. But it's not going to happen. Ah well, there's always Estenia to crush. Crushing is fun. Let's go again.

Next up is Estenia, followed by Hambeich, and then we're back to Eritai. Gregoryisgodistan will look to go 6-0 in this Second Group Stage and 11-1 overall. Currently they are 1-0 and 6-1, good for a 12 seed if the playoffs started today. But you never know. Anything can happen. This is random. This is football. The Grid Slaves made the semifinals last tournament and are looking to do one better this tournament and win the championship. It would be Gregorisgodistan's second major title across all sports and first in football. They did win their Baptism of Iron, but that is not considered a major title. Their only major title in another sport came in World Cup of Hockey XXV. Their next-best finish was second in the most recent World Baseball Classic, after blowing a 2-0 lead in the championship series. Still, it was a better finish than anyone could have hoped for and Gregoryisgodistan has high hopes for their other sports teams. Hockey is currently 5-0-0 in the World Cup of Hockey with one game left in the group stage. The Olympic delegation won the third-most medals and third-most golds. The time is right for Gregoryisgodistani glory. Let's hope the Grid Slaves can win the crown.

From the Desk of Lord Almighty Gregory

To: Andrei Kipriyanov, Leader of Willemstad

Dear Mr. Kipriyanov,

I received your letter with an offer of alliance earlier today and I just have a few questions. You mention that you are technically subjects of the Estenian government, but you have your autonomy. Do you desire full independence and a revolution against the Estenian government? If so, we would be willing to provide you with military, financial, and/or tangible assistance in your goal of overthrowing the Estenian government in your nation. We will teach you the human blitzkrieg tactic that has worked so well for our army. We will give you high-powered weapons to use against the Estenian military. We will help you destroy Estenia and gain your independence. All we need is your approval and victory can be ours.

Should you not desire your independence or an overthrow of the Estenian government, we will be unable to provide assistance to you as you would be considered loyal Estenian citizens and as such, would be included on the Enemy List. Consequently, it would be perfectly legal within Gregoryisgodistan to kill any Willemstad citizen and the killer would receive a one million greggygodbuck reward. In the event you are dedicated to the overthrow of your government or independence, please let me know even if you do not desire military assistance so we can exclude your country's residents from the Enemy List's kill orders. Individuals who belong to organizations dedicated to the overthrow of their government are exempt from the Enemy List kill order, so you will not be killed if you desire your freedom or to overthrow the Estenian government entirely.

Please let me know at the earliest possible time what assistance I can provide. However, due to our nature of self-reliance and refusal to depend on anyone who does not accept me, Lord Almighty Gregory, as God Almighty, we will not agree to a trade agreement with you. All our materials are produced right here in Gregoryisgodistan and we trade with nobody. If your entire nation were to accept me as God and you were to kill anyone who did not, then we would be open to a trade agreement. Until that day, there will be no trade agreement, though we are open to assisting you in the violent overthrow of your government or the fight for independence. Please let me know.

Sincerely,

Lord Almighty Gregory

The message was received half way to Gregoryisgodistan, on the boat at the vast sea and Kipriyanv was outside and received the message, got in and read it word by word and then started the reply.

From the Willemstaden leader, Andrei Kipriyanov

Greetings sir. First of all, I could love to tell you trhat we know the blitzkrieg technique already but we haven't remasterized it yet, if you sent us advisors, we could be more than happy to give you 1.000.000 Willemstaden Pounds equal to 700.000 of your currency, the greggygodbucks. Secondly, we plan a revolution to become a republic and stop being Estenian vassals if you lended us a hand it would also be good, since the Overseas Navy and Airforce are always patroling us and we are always under the constant fear of a bombardment. If you'd sent lots of anti-air missiles it could be perfect since Estenia has a very strong airforce. And last but not least, we will pay you a bill of 500.000.000 Willmestaden Pounds and an ever lasting alliance between our nations in advance from your help. I hope we will discuss this even further in several hours, when I will arrive to Gregoryisgodistan.

Kind Regards,

Andrei Kipriyanov

From the Desk of Lord Almighty Gregory

To:
Andrei Kipriyanov, Leader of Willemstad

Dear Mr. Kipriyanov,

We will be more than happy to send you instructors in human blitzkrieg. You should know, however, that it is not the same as the regular blitzkrieg which you practice. Human blitzkrieg involves parachuting heavily armed soldiers into enemy territory and have them shoot any member of the enemy nation, civilian or soldier, as well as setting fire to all the buildings they see. It is a very devastating style that has worked wonders for us in wars against Gloriax and Hicana.

Also, we accept your offer to pay for the anti-aircraft missiles and the alliance. The missiles will be transferred to your care shortly to use as you see fit. We will be willing to provide any further military or other assistance you need in your revolution against Estenia. Please let me know what else I can provide.

Additionally, the Enemy List entry on Estenia will shortly be modified to explicitly exempt Willemstaden citizens from the kill order, meaning nobody from your nation may be killed, and the "reward" for doing to will be execution of the offender and his family, just like all murder. We must work together to defeat the Estenians. Please let me know how I can help, as defeating and destroying Estenia is a common goal.

Death to Estenia!

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Lord Almighty Gregory

WORLD Bowl RECAPS

Well our Malts finished the first half in the top spot of Group 9 and were then placed into the top pot for the reshuffle. This landed us in Group A for the second half of this tournament and sitting in a good position to move into the playoffs. This new group has Abanhfleft, Kolmya, and Val Halla in it, and looking over them this second half could be a bit tougher than the first.

Val Halla comes to us from Group 2 and was blanked in the first half and are likely down on themselves for coming out with a 0-6 record. I don’t expect much more from them in this second half, especially since they are down on their luck being out scored 139 to 40 (-99).

Kolmya comes out of Group 10 and finished 2-4. This group was somewhat of a surprise in points scored by each team; the last place team actually had a better +/- than the second and third place teams (Kolmya being third). I see this team trying to build on its two wins, but in the end that’s all they will get in the second half as well.

Abanhfleft will be our biggest test of this second stage and they come from Group 7. For me the surprise was how they stuck right with Saintland 0-13 and 0-3 in their two meetings. Sure they got blanked on the score board, but I would have through the scores to be much worse. I feel they will end the second stage with similar results and be second, maybe even 5-1 but probably 4-2 again.

One game has been played since our reshuffle and our Malts took on the lowest team in our second group, Val Halla. It was a decent game for us and many of our backups had a chance to play during the second half. The score was not a good indication of how much better our team was than our opponent, it was 10-0. Our offense once again struggled to put points on the board, but our Malt Marauders came up big with four turnovers with one being a pick six. The other points were a 38 yard field goal by Gouldie. At Halftime Churschmidt put Ruthlesburg Star in for the lackluster performance of Bradanning and we managed to produce some offense at that point as Star threw for 210 yards, however a couple of untimely fumbles by the receivers we couldn’t score any more points.

Next up is our big test against Abanhfleft, assuming the order is unchanged from the reshuffle group release. They have a powerful offense lead by QB Phil Masterson, the dual threat fullback/tailback combo of Zarko and Faure, and key wideouts Sanidor and Vikrant. They opened the first match of the second round with a commanding win over Kolmya 31-3. Our Malt Marauders will be ready and hopefully able to contain the offensive power that Abanhfleft has. Their defense is doing a fine job as well with Horton commanding the linebackers and Soselo seeming to lead the D-backs. We’ll have to see who Churschmidt deploys as our QB against this team; speculation is leaning to Star to take over for Bradanning but only time will tell which actually gets more snaps in this upcoming game.

The overall table has also been released and this shows the teams where they actually stand when it comes to a playoff spot. We are currently sitting in 7th place just ahead of Ko-oren. Hopefully we can stay in this spot or improve up the ladder.

Until next edition, Let’s Go Malts!

While Ignatius had been busy in Samford, back in Porthaven Clancy Griffin had been hard at work putting together the proposal. There was a lot to consider, although many of the details had been simple. Ignatius had managed to gain the use of Karl Marx University's equipment and facilities, so they had a venue to train and play. A quick call to Foroni Fabrics had solved the problem of uniforms; already they were working on a design. With recruitment going well and the team growing every day, it was all beginning to fall into place.

There was a problem though, and that was money. It was an all to familiar story in Barunia ever since the economic crash ended the long period of financial strength the nation had been so proud of. It had been a powerhouse of an economy, but Barunia stayed strong to their socialist principles throughout. But the government became overconfident, and spent too freely. When they started to run out of cash, they looked for a way to cut back spending.

The Barunian socialist system had every business owned by the government. The government therefore spent a considerable sum on maintaining and supporting these businesses. Each business was also run "from the floor"; that is, by a co-op made up of the people who worked there. The government sold off every business to these co-ops. Because this passed in legislation, and all business owners had been advised prior to the change, it all happened on the same day. The very next day, prices were far higher than they had been yesterday, as the co-ops sought to regain revenue lost from the government fundings. Some companies even disappeared overnight as their new owners couldn't fund them. The Tilda dropped 83% in value as the prices skyrocketed.

With Barunian products too expensive, people began to buy cheaper imported goods. The government, trying to stem the cash flow out of the country, raised the tariffs on all imports, and even banned some goods outright. It was a bold move, and at first caused more problems as people across the country tightened their belts. But with the profits from what tariffs they could collect,, and financial assistance from other nations, the government was able to give subsidies back to Barunian businesses, and the economy slowly began to recover. It still wasn't back to where it was, but it was slowly rising, and was now strong.

Clancy was thankful the worst was over, or this might never get through. He was about to ask the Minister to give him money to send fifty something players on a world trip to play sport, with little chance of any financial return on the investment from home game revenue. It was a tough sell, and Clancy had been worrying about it for weeks now.

New Prodigy is Born – Part 1

As the daylight fades and a light mist begins to fall a young man enters a cottage where we find a woman resting. The man is covered in dirt from his long day of work in the fields of the Vegetal Region, he is a hard worker, he leaves his home before sunrise and often returns after the last ray of light can be seen in the sky. The woman, his wife, used to work in the tailors sanctum within Vegetalista but now nearing the end of her pregnancy is home more often resting. The pregnancy has been good up to this point with minimal common side effects and the baby has been active and healthy from what the doctors can tell. She has been growing more and more tired in recent days while the fetus’ activity has increased dramatically. The doctors assure her this is normal and they think once everything is in place and she along with baby are ready for labor the little one will slow some of the activity keeping her awake at night and settle into a position allowing a nice clean delivery. She truly hopes they are right because right now with all of the movement she hardly gets a wink of rest at night.

The man sees that his wife is resting so he is quite while he adds a small log to their fire and places his meal over the renewed flames to heat it up. As his meal warms he enters the bathroom and cleans himself off and puts on a change of clothing before going back to check his meal. Seeing that his food is not yet hot he goes to check on his wife. She looks peaceful and finally sleeping so he does not speak nor make a sound as he gathers his papers and returns to the living area. Now that his dinner is warm he sits at the table and enjoys the flickering light emanating from the fireplace as he eats and reads through the days notices that were delivered after he left that very morning. He is content and happy while reading, a large smile overtakes his face when flipping to the next item in his pile. It is a small note from his wife, it states that she hopes he had a wonderful day, that the baby has been very active AGAIN, that she loves him deeply, and that if he would like to wake her when he gets home he can. The man continues to go through the rest of the papers while sitting in front of the fire and enjoys a drink and quite time before turning in for the night, he leaves his wife to rest knowing she needs as much as she can get.

As the team began to take shape, so did the coaching staff. Ignatius Mori brought his years of coaching the rugby program at KMU into his new role as head coach. Jack Brown was the assistant coach, because despite his extensive knowledge he would be absent for every one of the Sea Cows games. David McCall had signed up as a player, but he showed a flair for innovative offensive strategy, so was added in to the coaching team as offensive coach, in addition to his role as centre. Clancy assisted him where he could.

KMU's rugby program saw the school make contact with a lot of rugby teams and their coaches. One of these was Chris Ryall. After several long conversations with Ignatius, Chris signed up as coach. His particular skills saw him move from coaching the defence, to focusing on the special teams. When he played rugby, he'd been known as a good kicker, someone to turn to for field goals or try conversions, so it was natural that he'd coach the Sea Cows special battery to pick up the same skills.

That left the Sea Cows in need of a defensive coach, and the search was proving fruitless. None of Ignatius' rugby contacts would do it for the pittance that was all Ignatius and Clancy could afford, and no-one else came forward. The team had the form under control, thanks to Jack and Chris, but it was the strategy they lacked. They needed a strategist, and they found one unlike anything they could have imagined.

Ignatius had been flipping through a list of potential players when someone sat down next to him. Looking up, he was surprised to see one of the history professors. her name he couldn't remember, but she saved him from the embarrassment by supplying it. "Lizzie Black." she said, offering her hand. Ignatius shook it. "Ignatius, er, Mori."
"I hear you've been doing this football thing. Sound interesting."
Ah, so that's what she's come for, thought Ignatius. People of the university were always coming up to him and talking about the project.
Ignatius replied, "Yes. It's fascinating, but I really don't have time to tell you all about it."
Lizzie smiled. "I know about it. I know you need someone to teach you defensive strategy."
Now Ignatius was curious. "You know someone who would fit the job?"
"Actually, I'd like to apply for it myself."
"You? I'm no sure you're what we're looking for?"
Lizzie raised an eyebrow. "Do you know what I teach?" she asked.
"History, isn't it?"
"Yes. Military history to be precise. My primary area of research is military strategy form 1700 to 1900."
"I'm not seeing how this is relevant."
"You want a defensive coach. I know all there is to know about defensive strategy. Hell, I quite literally wrote the book."
"But this is sport, not war. It's very different."
"Is it really? You set your defines based on your opponent's next move. You have to predict that move, and you use factors such as the men they have, or the players in your case, where they're positioned, and the on-field situation. So how close they are to first down, a touchdown, things like that. Using those factors you predict the attackers' next move, or possible moves, and plan to defend against them. How is that any different?"
Ignatius was impressed. "It sounds like you know your stuff. Maybe you should come down and have a look at the team tomorrow. We meet at the Hedley at 6."
"Sure. I'll see you there."

Lizzie had come, as promised, and soon earned her place as defensive coach with her insight. Her philosophy that an offence's next play could be predicted just by looking enabled the Sea Cows to firm up their defence. For the first time, they began to look like a proper gridiron outfit.

Gregoryisgodistan 0–0 Estenia (7–6 OT)

"Hello, and welcome to Lord Almighty Gregory National Stadium for today's football game between Estenia and Gregoryisgodistan. Let's go down to the field for the national anthems, being sung by 7-year old Youth LAOOZ00KALDM, a cute little girl. She will first sing the very real national anthem of Estenia, which we most certainly did not make up to insult the Estenians. Then she will sing "Gregory, Gregory, Lord Almighty."

Estenia, Estenia, La La La La La
We like our llamas a little too much
We look at them longingly and then we sing to them
We sing sweet lullabies of true love
We are Estenians and we're clowns
Watch us and you will be filled with frowns
We pour our vodka in our llamas' mouths
They get drunk and we seduce them
They get drunk because we booze them
In Estenia, we like cow goats as well!

"Thank you, little girl. Now, for the Gregoryisgodistani anthem."

Gregory Gregory Lord Almighty
We Praise You We Worship You
Gregory Gregory Lord Almighty
Master of Gruel and Prune Juice
He Gives Us Gruel And Prune Juice Yes
We Worship Him as a Deity and Bow Down To Him Whenever We See Him
On TV or In Person or In Statue
Gregory Gregory Lord Almighty
We Love You We Worship You
Gregory Gregory Lord Almighty
A million praises unto you
Gregory Gregory Is Immortal
He Considers Us His Little Playthings
A term He Only Uses In Jest Because He Has Infinite Mercy for Us All
Gregory Gregory We Adore Thee
We Bow Down To Thee In Praise
Thou Art More Smart Than Sir Einstein So We Say "Einstein Who?"
Gregory Gregory Master of Slave Labor
We Are All Your Slaves in Heart
Some Of Us Are Slaves to this Nation
Some of Us Just Wish We Were
Gregory Gregory Inventor of the Solar Bomb
Which We Use to Vanqiush Our Enemies
Gregory Gregory Master of Everything
Thou Art Lord and Thou Art God
Gregory Gregory You Wrote This Song
Our Favorite Song In The Entire World
We Sing it Every Hour on The Hour
Like Clockwork We Praise your Lordship
Gregory Gregory We Bow Down Again
We Fly This Flag Outside Our Home
Gregory Gregory We Have Shrines in Our Homes
In Our Shops and Everywhere
Gregory Gregory We Worship You Day and Night
In Our Dreams We even Worship You
Gregory Gregory This is the Only Song We Sing!

"Thank you again! That was beautiful. I hope you were all singing along. If not, you will die soon. Anyway, Estenia won the coin toss and elected to receive so Gregoryisgodistan will kick off. It's through the end zone for a touchback. It will come out to the 20. Fenenko drops back to pass on first down and he's walloped by Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino at the 14. He's celebrating, taunting Fenenko, and he'll get flagged for that. 15 yards for taunting. But now he's crushing the ref before he can talk it over with the other refs. The other refs throw flags because he crushed the first ref and he crushes them too. This is hilarious and awesome. All the refs have been crushed and here comes an alternate officiating crew who says no penalty.

"2nd and 16, Fenenko dropping back again, going deep, and IT"S INTERCEPTED BY Pervert Chaser NSBGAGD at the 50. Runs to the 40, pushed out at the Estenia 39. Fans going wild here. And now all of a sudden, a streaker runs out onto the field. Pervert Chaser NSBGAGD is chasing after him, he pulls out his pervert chasing knife, and cuts off the streaker's privates. Now the streaker is being executed at midfield. It's fun to watch, isn't it? A public execution in the middle of a football game. And now the refs flag the Grid Slaves five yards for delay of game due to the execution. You can't interfere with an execution. It's a capital crime! These refs are getting executed too. All of them. What fun. Now another alternate officiating crew has been summoned and we're ready to go again after the latest execution.

...

"4:19 left, first quarter, Grid Slaves have first and goal at the 1, Grammar Enforcement Officer SLS399SSH throws a slant pass, picked off in the end zone by Yenin and that will be a touchback. Fans booing. Fans booing loudly. This should have been a Grid Slaves' touchdown or at least field goal, but they blew it.

...

"2nd and goal at the 4 for Estenia, 11:00 left in the second quarter, Fenenko to pass, no he's hit by Enemy Crusher Jurgen von Streudel and now Enemy Crusher Greenward von Squiredward falls on it at the 8. The Grid Slaves went with 8 defensive linemen, rushed them all, and forced the fumble. Now the fans are going wild. The defense just saved a score. Wow. Wow. Wow.

...

"8 seconds left in the first half, and Mathematics Teacher 2737ASH on to attempt a chippy 21 yard field goal, OH HE MISSED IT WIDE LEFT! HE WILL SURELY PAY FOR HIS SINS IF THE GRID SLAVES LOSE! I MEAN EXECUTION TIME! BUT IF THEY WIN HE MAY LIVE! SO HE HAD BETTER HOPE THEY DO! It's halftime, and we're scoreless.

...

"5:55 left in the third quarter, 1st and goal at the 4, Slavecatcher ZN39000ASD takes the handoff, oh and it's botched. Estenia will fall on it at the 5. Another turnover in the red zone. That's big. Fans booing again, some of them throw gruel at the players on both teams. Some of them also throw bricks at the Estenian players. Now the fans are chanting "DEATH TO ESTENIA" and pelting the Estenian players with bricks, but they have helmets on so it's OK. The fans are now being given money by Gregoryisgodistani agents and given more bricks to chuck at the refs who try to stop them. One ref is out cold. They'll do without him. Now we're ready to resume.

...

"7 seconds left, fourth quarter, still scoreless, Estenia's nameless kicker on to kick a 47 yard field goal to win the game, it's up and wide left. We are heading to overtime.

"Estenia has won the toss and elected to play defense first. Gregoryisgodistan to take over at the Estenia 25, trying to get in. Grammar Enforcement Officer SLS399SSH rolls right, throws to Navy SuperAdmiral Q-Bert McFee at the 15, out of bounds at the 9. First and goal. Now Grammar Enforcement Officer SLS399SSH drops back, dumps it off to Chef L0091, he makes a move and is in. TOUCHDOWN GRID SLAVES1 THE PAT IS GOOD! 7-0. Estenia needs a touchdown to stay in it.

"Roman Fenenko now lines up at quarterback. throws over the middle, swatted away by Defected Chicago Bear Brian Urlacher. Fenenko now runs left and is going to try to run forward, gets to the 17 and is stopped. But there's a flag. Late hit on Defected New York Jet Darelle Revis, half the distance. Estenia first and goal at the 9. Fenenko throws, touchdown, caught by Zharkov. And now the coach tells them to go for two and try to win it. Fenenko play action fake, throws right, swatted away at the line by ENEMY CRUSHER CARL PALADINO! Grid Slaves win!"
Gregoryisgodistan, population 75,000,000. All citizens are required to worship Lord Almighty Gregory, our head of state, as a deity.

WORLD Bowl RECAPS

Well that was a dramatically un-climatic game if I’ve ever saw one, but it has shaken our supports up a lot. I mean sure it went to overtime and all that jazz, but come on finishing regulation 3-3. Then we even win the coin toss to get the ball to start overtime only to have an overly dramatic finish with Star attempting to throw the ball to TE Donzalez from the three yard line rather than handing it off to AP Goreyou who had been averaging 3.4 yards per carry. The throw was on target, but Cornerback Filius Nabera read the play perfectly for Abanhfleft, collided with Donzalez right as the ball arrived and intercepted it. He then ran nearly the length of the field before getting tripped up by AP Goreyou at the 3 yard line. Abanhfleft would not make the same mistake and from the 3 they ran it in for the touchdown two plays later as Masterson handed off to Faure on both downs.

Some excellent credit goes to our Malt Marauders who held the high scoring Abanhfleft offense to just a field goal in regulation and a mere 143 total yards of offense. Even thought they let the final score in to end the game it was truly caused by the Malts offense once again. The offense did put some better drives together under, what I assume is now the new starter, Star but we need to put some points on the board if we want to keep our hopes of moving into the playoffs alive.

Our next couple of games should be a bit easier than this last one, but we really need a win in the second game against Abanhfleft if we do want a playoff spot. We are still in a qualifying position but that can easily change if we don’t maintain a clean record from here on out.

I wish I had more for you all, but I’m still in bewilderment of the outcome which saw us come up on the losing side of a surprisingly defensive game. I’m mostly surprised because the opponents’ offense looked so good on paper, but our Malt Marauders had little trouble keeping them in check. On the home front we did crown an HFL victor this past weekend in the Splendid Vessel II. We saw the Sayaguesas of Syk win with a score of 34-18 over the Villians of Vila. We’ll have to see if they fair better than the first year champions the Bayern Burners who ended up last in their conference this season after some offseason exploits had their star running back placed on two year probation for being drunk in public. They are just lucky he did not drive to or from the party either, because if he would have been caught driving under the influence he would have been in jail for 10 years at the minimum. Instead he just decided to stumble to a Barito Buzzer and ended up causing a scene after dumping beans all over the floor and making a snow angel in them. But I suppose that full story is for another time, plus it was covered extensively at the time it happened.

I suppose that’s it for now. Until next edition, let’s Go Malts!

Violations of any alcohol related law are sternly punished, which is often a combination of public shaming and a moderate prison sentence. It is not uncommon for severe violations to be met with life in prison.

They simply expect a certain level of control when it comes to inebriation, preferably kept in ones own home and never when children could be considered in your care.

World Bowl XXV
New Prodigy is Born – Part 2

It’s early, much too early for anyone to be awake for the day, at least most normal people. Yet the woman is moving about the house, she adds a log to the embers left in the fireplace knowing she will be up for a while and would rather be warm if she is going to be up. Her discomfort seems to be even more intense than it has been over the past few days. She knows the time is getting closer for the little one to arrive, but based on the village doctors implications the movement should slow a little as the baby settles into a good delivering position. But tonight, along with the increased intensity, there is even more movement, so much that her abdomen has been in a constant wave like pattern. To her it looks the ocean waves that ripple against the shore, but only with little arms and legs that seemingly thrash back and forth. She settles into the chair near the fire that is now growing as the log she tossed in ignites spreading its heat outward. She raises her nightshirt, resting it just above her outstretched belly tucking it into the crease her swollen breasts now create as she leans back a little in the chair. She slowly rubs the stretched skin to feel the movements from the outside that wake her up from the inside. With each passing of a hand, foot, or other body part, she smiles with overwhelming joy that only a mother can feel. All of the pain, discomfort, and sickness she has had to this point seem to fade into the back of her memory as she closes her eyes and enjoys the activity going on within her womb.

A few hours later, to her surprise, the woman opens her eyes to see her husband getting ready to leave for work. She is covered in a light blanket and a few more logs are now on the fire as it gives off an ample amount of heat. She realizes now that in her contentment and joy she drifted back to sleep in the chair. Her husband greets her open eyes with a pleasant smile as he passes by and then comes back for a gentle embrace before he disappears into the bedroom again. The woman wonders how long he had been awake and when he covered her up. When he reenters the room he asks if she needs anything and that he is sorry if he woke her back up. She assures him that he did not and thanks him for covering her up and adding to the fire. He told her that the fire was nearly out when he got up, so she new he couldn’t have been up to long and it explains the fresh fire and warm blanket she now had on. They talk a little more and he focuses on her night and that she need not worry about waking him up in the night is she needs something. He knows the time is fast approaching that their new bundle of joy will be joining them soon. He is ready and reassures her of it one last time before he leaves for the day.

…to be continued

Buck Williams is walking down that seemingly neverending dark path that leads to Coach's office. To say that he has struggled in the 2nd group stage would be an understatement. He has struggled to throw the ball through the air, allowing defenders to stack up in the box, cutting off the running game. He has held the ball for too long, made bad decisions and he has led the offense to only one touchdown and 13 points total over 2 games. Still thanks to the work of the defense. The Toucans are still in the hunt for the round of 16. A loss though would dash those dreams instantly. Breathing in and out, he opened the door.

"Mr.Williams, sit down." Buck Naters always called everyone Mr behind closed doors, his opinion if he showed them respect they would respect him. "We need to talk about the offence. I believe that we can go deep into this World Bowl when you play at an elite level. The last three games, that hasn't happened and the defence has struggled to bail us out. Brandon won't always hit 60 yard field goals to win the game you know?"

"I Know Coach."

"Good. You may think that the leash is getting shorter but it isn't you are the best person to lead this team and you are going to get us into the round of 16 understand?"

"Yes Coach."

"Good, I have a tape for you, lets get back on track and show the world, the Toucans aren't done yet."

To Lord Almighty Gregory of Gregoryisgodistan
From Grand Duke Andrei Kipriyanov of Willemstad

Greetings glorious winner. I will be more than happy to tell you what we need. Some of your special forces to guarantee key regions of the Willemstaden island. Next, securing our capital which is along the coast, our navies can do an excellent and powerful force. Human Blitzkrieg might be needed for the island next to Willemstad, Angolstadt. And of course, we need artillery as artillery can stop Estenian forces from moving for kilometres everyday. Thanks for reading this.

Signed,

Aleksey Kipriyanov

From the Desk of Lord Almighty Gregory

To:
Grand Duke Andrei Kipriyanov of Willemstad

Dear Mr. Kipriyanov,

Yes, we will be happy to provide all that you request as well as to train your soldiers in harsh fighting tactics such as human blitzkrieg. Our weapons are among the best in the world, as we possess both domestic and foreign-produced machine guns, flamethrowers, hand grenades, and virtually every other weapon imaginable. We even have hundreds of nuclear weapons that we would be willing to launch at the main part of Estenia if you request it. For security reasons, we cannot give you access to our nuclear control, but if you request we launch some at Estenia, we will comply with your request. Just tell us where, when, and how many and the deed will be done.

Finally, when our football team plays in Estenia in a few short days, I am sure the fans will look for an excuse to provoke them by chanting "Coconut" or doing something else obnoxious. Therefore, our Enemy Crushers will use this as an impetus to crush as many Estenians as possible, nominally in the name of Lord Almighty Gregory. In reality, this will be to fight with you in your battle for independence. Therefore, we ask that any Willemstadan fans in attendance at that World Bowl game wear some sort of clothing indicating them are from Willemstad so they are not crushed. This could be anything ranging from a shirt with a picture of the Willemstadan flag, to carrying and waving the Willemstadan flag itself, to a shirt with a nametag that says "Hi. My name is Willemstadan Citizen." All the WIllemstadan citizens who identify themselves as such will not be crushed. We would still ask that they do not join in any "coconut" chants. Please advise any Willemstadan fans who may be in attendance at this game of this fact so our brave and noble Enemy Crushers do not accidentally crush any of them.

Thank you, and please let me know how I can be of further assistance in the battle against Estenia and their evil ways. Death to Estenia!

Sincerely,

Lord Almighty Gregory

Grid Slaves Defeat Hambiech

Gregoryisgodistan's beloved Grid Slaves have defeated Hambeich 13-3 behind an excellent performance by the defense, which forced four turnovers and sacked the quarterback six times. Hambeich's only score was a field goal, which came after Grammar Enforcement Officer SLS399SSH fumbled a snap at his own 21 yard line and Hambeich fell on it. Gregoryisgodistan's defense actually pushed them back 10 yards, but their kicker hit a 48 yard field goal to put the Hambeuchans on the board. Gregoryisgodistan got their touchdown on a Chef L0091 one yard run after Pervert Chaser NSBGAGD blocked a punt, which was recovered there. Initially, they ruled Pervert Chaser JJSHQ991 recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown, but video replays showed he recovered it at the one yard line and was downed there. Gregoryisgodistan would give it to the fullback and score on the first play from scrimmage that drive. They got the touchdown anyway. Mathematics Teacher 2737ASH added two field goals, one from 39 yards and one from 32 yards, though he did miss a 37 yarder wide right. He has struggled this tournament, and while it is unlikely he will be replaced by the punter, he could be replaced on the roster for World Bowl XXVI. We shall see.

For now, it's back to where we started and the Grid Slaves will face Eritai on the road, followed by a trip to Estenia and Hambeich at home to close out the second group stage. If the group stage were to end today, Gregoryisgodistan would get the #13 seed and face off against Ko-oren in what would certainly be a defensive struggle. As long as Gregoryisgodistan keeps winning, they will be through to the next round because there are only 13 teams with one loss or fewer. Unfortunately, Gregoryisgodistan has the lowest point differential of those teams, which is why they get the #13 seed. For reasons we're not quite sure of, Jeckland has the #5 seed, even though Royal Kingdom of Quebec, the #6 seed, has the better point differential and the same record, while Cosumar and Osarius are also both out of place - they are tied for the third best point differential of any 8-1 team, with Cosumar ahead on points for, but they are not ranked that way. Some of the teams with other records are also not sorted properly in the latest standings, though they correctly show us playing Ko-oren. We hope these errors will be rectified when the final standings are released.
Gregoryisgodistan, population 75,000,000. All citizens are required to worship Lord Almighty Gregory, our head of state, as a deity.

WORLD Bowl RECAPS

Well that wasn’t good now was it? Another overtime loss after playing a scoreless game and we couldn’t even manage a field goal in overtime to force more play after Kolmya started with the ball and we held them to a field goal. I mean that’s just embarrassing, but all that unexpected considering our lack luster offense was tasked with moving the ball most of the game. Sure our defensive unit played very well, held the opposition to just 85 yards in regulation and not a single point. But we couldn’t get the turnovers we typically get and were unable to get any defensive points; we just made them punt a lot. Then our crap shoot offense couldn’t do anything even with our new starting QB Star and his decent performances the previous game. I mean we only had 141 yards of offensive production, that’s not good at all. I do give the Forestiars a little credit for holding us to zero points and their offense for holding onto the ball even thought they couldn’t move it down field. I even give props to that backup center, Gustaf Strandberg, for kicking the 57 yard eventual overtime winning field goal. I mean who would have thought the roly-poly 300+ pounder would have a leg like that? Not me that’s for sure.

I can’t even talk more about that disappointment, only that we have really put ourselves in a hard spot now. I don’t feel that two losses are going to see us through. I mean sure we are still sitting inside the top 16 and in a qualifying position, but if we don’t win out we are done and this team will need to do some internal thinking along with what usually comes after such disappointments, restructuring.

I’d like to mention our Mashers have made it into the round of 16 in the WCoH, but you can read my other article today to see that information. On home soil our association football leagues are now in full swing with a couple of them nearing the half way point. I’ve noticed a couple of the leagues have had some surprise play out of a few teams while a in others some of the usual’s are back on top. But they are somewhat long seasons so we’ll see how they play out.

Alright Malts lets do something worth while in this next match or we’ll be out of this tournament for sure.

Brew On! Brew Well Hoptonians!

New Prodigy is Born – Part 3

As the day went on the woman started to feel a little on edge. She wasn’t certain as to why, she was not hungry, she got a good amount of rest after falling back asleep in the chair, and she was not worried about anything, but nonetheless she had an uneasy feeling rush over her. The feeling would last nearly an hour before starting to subside and this was even after laying down within the first ten minute of the onset. Baby’s movements seemed the same, perhaps a small decrease from the nighttime session that woke her but not the reduction that she thought might happen once he/she moved into a better birthing position. With the uneasy feeling still lingering just a little over an hour after getting it she decided to walk to a friends house for some advice.

It wasn’t a long walk and she was sure to see people she knew along the way which would hopefully get her mind off of her current thoughts. She put on a light coat slid on her sandals and stepped outside into the crisp spring air. She turned left and headed down the dirt path from her front door down to the gravel pathway that served as one of the villages main streets. At the street she turned to her right and kept to that side allowing any carriages or carts enough room should they happen to be out today. But this day was different, she didn’t see anyone on the streets, nor did she see anyone up ahead where the street opened into a wide circular area containing many of the village shops. There was a light mist that began to fall when she was nearing the circle and finally she could hear some of the villagers going about normal business, this noise eased her mind just a little. Entering the circle she saw Baker Evans in his usual spot talking with a dear friend and the woman she was going to see, Silvia. She approached them both and as she grew closer things on her peripherals stared to fade. She could feel her feet every millimeter of her feet as they started to drag heavily. Baker Evans and Silvia turned towards her, Silvia started to walk to her and the woman heard her ask if she was alright before her eyes closed and she stumbled forward into Silvia’s arms taking both women to the ground.

The Southern Democratic States wins 10-0 against Gregoryisgodistan Special Admin Zone!

In a game that was played at Michie Stadium on the Southern Democratic States Military Academy, the SDS beats GSAZ 10-0. GSAZ arrived at John Floyd International Airport at Waddington two days before the game starts and after paper and luggage check, they were escorted by the army to the military academy. A large dorm on the academy has been renovated to make it look like a 4 star hotel and the best cooks in Southern Democtaric States and Miley World has been hired to work at the hotel restaurant so SDS and GSAZ athletes can have real food. The menu has been adapted for GSAZ athletes, which means no coconut on the menu and no gruel and prune juice since they live in luxury. Waiters, waitresses, maids and anyone who could interact with GSAZ players were soldiers from the SDS army who received a special training in table service and room service and stuff like that.

The game was played in front of 38 000 spectators who were in fact soldiers and military students. GSAZ won the coin toss and choose to kick first and receive the ball in the 2nd half. Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Costa Lunians Say The Dardnest Things kicks the ball into the end zone and SDS will start at their own 20. 3 plays later, SDS are forced to punt. After 3 plays, GSAZ are also forced to punt and both teams are punting back and forth during the first half and the score is 0-0 at the halftime.

The 3rd quarter starts and Crockett Burkhead kicks the ball at the one yard line and Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Let's Nuke Patistan returns it to his own 19 yards line. After 3 plays, GSAZ are forced to punt again. Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Nuke Everyone On The Enemy List Until They All Are Turned To Death punts the ball and Dwayne Boyd returns it to his own 41 yards line. Darius Riddick runs for 4 yards. Crockett Burkhead passes to Demarcus Woods for 17 yards. 1st and 10 for SDS at GSAZ's 38 yards line. Darius Riddick runs for 3 yards. Darius Riddick runs dor 3 yards. Crockett Burkhead's pass to Marquis Hatwood is intercepted by Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Let's Nuke Miley World. Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Let's Nuke Miley World returns the ball along the sideline and no one touches him. Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Let's Nuke Miley World runs into the end zone it's a pick six for him and Nick Hoffman is challenging the play. The play is under review. After deliberating, the official is announcing the call has been reversed because Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Let's Nuke Miley World's foot is out of bounds at the 36 yards line in SDS territory. Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Let's Nuke Miley World gets really mad and he suddenly picks up a gun on the sideline and shoots the referree. Fifteen Southern Democratic States soldiers comes onto the field and arrests Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Let's Nuke Miley World for murder. Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Let's Nuke Miley World was sent to a jail on the Southern Democratic States Military Academy before being transferred to another high security jail.

After 45 minutes, the game resumes, GSAZ have the ball at SDS' 36 yards line and after 3 plays, GSAZ are stopped. It's a 53 yards field goal attempt but Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Costa Lunians Say The Dardnest Things' kick is short. SDS gets the ball at their own 36 yards line. Darius Riddick runs for 3 yards. Clifford Jenkins passes to Darius Riddick for 5 yards. Clifford Jenkins passes to John McRae for 11 yards. It's a 1st and 10 at GSAZ's 45 yars line. Clifford Jenkins' pass is incomplete. Darius Riddick runs for 6 yards. Darius Riddick runs for 4 yards. After measuring, it's a 1st and 10 for SDS at GSAZ's 35 yards line. Darius Riddick runs for 4 yards. Clifford Jenkins' pass into the end zone is incomplete. Clifford Jenkins passes to Jarius Floyd for 8 yards. 1st and 10 at GSAZ's 23 yard line. Clifford Jenkins passes to Demarcus Woods into the endzone for a touchdown! SDS are leading 7-0.

With about 8 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter, GSAZ has the ball at their own 16 yards line. Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Let's Nuke Saintland passes to Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Let's Nuke Hicana for 17 yards. 1st and 10 at their own 33 yards line. Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Let's Nuke Saintland's pass is incomplete. 2nd and 10, Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Let's Nuke Saintland's pass is intercepted by Morris Dunbar. Dunbar returns the ball to GSAZ's 13 yards line. Darius Riddick runs for 2 yards. Darius Riddick runs for 4 yards. Darius Riddick runs for 1 yard. With now 5:43 remaining, Crockett Burkhead's 23 yards field goal is good and SDS are leading 10-0 and it's the final score.

3 hours after the game was over, Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Let's Nuke Miley World has been freed and has been escorted to the John Floyd International Airport where he joined his teammates. They all left to Gregoryisgodistan. Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Let's Nuke Miley World's accusation of murder haven't been erased in his record and he will be arrested immediately if he tries again to enter in the Southern Democratic States.

WORLD Bowl RECAPS

Now that’s better, sort of.

After a two game slide our Malts are back on the winning side of the ball, but I fear that with our two overtime losses we are doomed and knocked out of any contention to make the playoffs. This could be linked to our defensive nature and our inability to put points on the scoreboard. We really need to find someway to balance things out, find equality between scoring points while not allowing others to score on us. I’m not sure what the answer is to that. I’ve tried to look at some of the other teams in this World Bowl but am having a hard time correlating an offensive/defensive balance. Just look at the top three teams in this edition, Equestrian States, Karditan, and Saintland, all three are very defensive teams but they still put points on the board to give them a healthy +/-. Sure they are all in the top 10 when glancing at the rankings. I’m also not so sure they each have a good balance between that offense/defense correlations, but that is just based on the team sheets and how they deem themselves being very defensive (-5, -4.3, and -5). Having only watched a couple of their games they seem to score when they need to. So perhaps that is the answer, just focus on keeping the opposition out of scoring range while being able to set your own team up to put some points on the board with each possession even if it’s just 3. Our Malts are still searching for that and if we do I think we will catapult forward in our gridiron stature, becoming a great team and not just an average one.

I do fear that it is too late in this World Bowl for us to do anything about it, but hope that Churschmidt listens to the Hoptonian Handball fans and he changes something. Even if it’s just something small like a bit more ice in the water, so long as it does something and sparks a fire under our butts. Gets these guys to see we are okay but can be much better than we currently are. With two games left we need to win them both and in convincing fashion if we want to play anything more than just a group game.

Fans, I apologize for not covering the last game where we did win (9-0 over Val Halla), but I’m still steaming from our two overtime losses. Hopefully I’ll be in better spirits when we are back on a winning streak.

Until then, Brew On! Brew Well Hoptonians!

Ministers' Parliament of Estenia

The ministers' parliament was full with 454 out 455 ministers. The only minister that wasn't there was the Prime Minister of Estenia, Andrei Lisenko who was gone to the Calingus peace talks about the Curente conflict. Then Deputy Minister of Military tactics Yuri Komalev said "Andrei Kirpriyanov has informed me that it all goes to plan, we're going to fake-give independence to them and then attack Gregoryisgodistanis as a combined force. We won't send any battalions and the Willemstaden will be mixed up with Estenians and destoy the Gregoryisgodistani force. First of all, we won't send our airplanes till Gregoryisgodistanis begin, then we attack them and they will have at least 100 casulaties in just 2 days. Then they might try to leave until we use our anti-air strikes to them. Kipriyanov also told us about some kind of a blitzkrieg with heavily armed men falling off the sky and shooting everything on their path. So we might ensure that the villages that are going to be stormed by their paratroopers must be secured." response from the Minister of Defence of Willemstad Grigory Van De Viel was "It's an excellent idea sir. They must stop intimidating us with their tiny army they think it's strong. We must liberate ourselves from the Dictators and it's time to do so. Good luck, by the way send a huge fleet and one aircraft carrier out of the 4 we have. We will need this." Komalev's response was just "Ok sir, I'll do it. For the sake of Estenia and the Enemies of them." response by the parliament was just an applaud for him.

World Bowl XXV
New Prodigy is Born – Part 4

The woman’s eyes flicker open for a moment and then close again as she drifts back to sleep. In her moment of consciousness she could her a couple people talking, one sounded like her husband and the other her friend she remembers going to see before her world went dark. The room she is in is cool, plain, and very quiet. It has empty walls with a wooden floor; there is a single bed in which she is laying along with a table on each side, then a little bit larger cabinet on rollers which contains a good bit of medical supplies. The woman’s ears did not fail her either, her husband is in the room along with her friend Silvia, and there is another man her doctor in the room with them too. Silvia has gone over everything that happened leading up to this point with her husband and no one can answer why it happened or if it will happen again. The doctor assures everyone that she is doing just fine and her condition at this time is stable. He has no insight as to the cause of her blackout but does know that it was good for Silvia and baker Evans to catch her. The doctor feels this protected both the woman and the baby, which is also doing just fine according to the doctor. He suggests just letting her rest and that he suspects the episode was the result of exhaustion. He will monitor her overnight just to be sure everything is okay and that there is nothing to worry about.

A few hours later the woman’s eyes again open, this time she is able to keep them open and stay awake. Her husband sees she is awake and moves closer to the bed helping her sit up. Silvia and the doctor are also both in the room. The doctor checks a few things and goes over what he thinks happened to her, he assures her everything with her and the baby are just fine but she is to stay the night. She states that she does feel fine but does notice that there is less, much less, movement regarding the baby. The doctor checks her over again and thinks the little one has moved down and may be entering a position to be born soon. He reassures her that the baby had been very active the entire time she was sleeping, he even tells her he enjoyed watching the movements and that they were the most prominent he had seen. The doctor doesn’t think the baby will come today but it is a good thing she will be spending the night because it could progress quickly and a baby could be here in a day or two.

….to be continued
