I presume you use chains or snow tires with the truck?
Also, is it still stock or have you modified it somehow?

Which kind of car do you drive?
1967 VW Bus, Westfalia SO-42
What drove you to buy the car you bought (dream car, affordability, etc.)?
I always wanted to drive one just to see what it was like so I sort of went to waste the dude selling its time, but I got around the block, pulled over, sat at the table with my roommate and went, "I'm making an offer on this car."
What do you like about your car in terms of performance or what would you like to fix/upgrade if you had the money?
Performance you say...1600 cc's of pure neck snapping 40hp...0-60 in maybe...
It's not fast, but you stop caring almost immediately. I really just want to restore it, but she's my daily driver and only car.
Lastly, have you registered and passed the inspection of your car yet? Why or why not, and what does it require to fix so it can pass the inspection if there's an issue with it? If you have done so already did it pass with flying colors or did you have to fix anything?
I've been driving that thing longer than a lot of you have been alive.

I have never met anyone who has such a classic before! My dad has told me about those VW Buses, sturdy ones they are.

Brasilia? I don't know why I'm asking like you'll go, "Yes, oddball Brazilian VW...it was on the tip of my tongue...I'm not even 100% sure that Brazilias came in diesel.

No, it's even weirder. I keep thinking Karmann Ghia probably because that's the only other classic, non-Bug/Kombi VW that I'm aware exists but the pictures on the internet don't match it. Similar though.

Actually I think it's a Type 3, if such a car exists.

That they are.
I'm always either too broke or something on mine is broke and I miss this trip, but one year, I'm totally fucking doing it.Soldati senza confini wrote:Restoration would be nice, would it be expensive in a car such as that one though?
Not especially. I replaced a motor for what my brother paid to have his radiator fixed on his Mini Cooper. Just because she's my daily there are things I fixed already, like brakes suspension gear box engine...and over twenty years some of those things a few times. Mechanically except for a particularly pesky header she's fine. I have to pull out the wiring harness at some point and replace that, the part is only $150, but the process is mindnumbing. But when I do that I want to install an auxiliary battery with a converter so I can plug stuff in (no cigarette lighter) and make a second run at a car stereo (the last one lasted exactly three weeks before being stolen in my apartment parking lot because the doors didn't lock and I lived next to a crackhead. I know it was his ass because he left halfway through because he heard my motorcycle coming. I have a pair of drive in movie speakers I'm going to put new 4" speakers in, I found someone who makes kick panels with speaker holes and a previous owner already cut the upper deck rear cupboard for speakers in the back.
Paneling the interior would be like a grand, replacing the coolbox the methheads (I'm poor, I live near a lot of substance abuse...) stole and the buddy seat the dude who stole my stereo destroyed will be a little over a grand. Whatever I end up doing to fix the front seats maybe another. Then it's just paint/bodywork which costs the same no matter what the car is...well, it's a van, so a little more. But she's pretty dry so it shouldn't be that bad.
But...like I said, I'm poor. When I bought this thing it was cheap, now you can't even find a barely runner for less than $15k. In order to do her right I have to take her off the road for a few months, and what would I drive?
Depending on whatever windfall that comes my way to allow this to happen the candidates are (drumroll...)
1967 MGB GT w/overdrive
or
a Mk.1 GTi, just to have had one for a bit. At least it would be easier to give up once I got my Bus back.
or, if I get a big jump in income, and I must buy something modern,
a 2004 R32...I know there are newer ones and maybe even the Golf R is faster and I did just posit a windfall, so why hold back? I just like that generation and it has a proper stick shift.
Or, you know, keep rocking a van and see if I can get a running Econoline from the early sixties. Panel. Use that for work.
The rest of the things would be work before I could get to work on my Bus and while she is not a she but an inanimate object with no feelings or will, she would flip her shit if I worked on another car first...so the 1950 Willys Aero Ace would have to wait. As well as the Citroen Traction Avante. Or that goddamn Lotus Espirit S2 I saw for sale locally for $7500 that the previous owner had let go to seed...
...I need to make more money. So I can still have no money and a bunch of unfinished project cars surrounding me...
I'm not even a good mechanic.

This one has a 1800cc turbo engine (590hp@11200rpm), 7 speed sequential gear, AWD. I couldn't edit the model to include more aggressive aero, with a diffuser and front splitter, although I did add the WRC wing. It needs bolt-on fender flares too.
If I was building one for the road I might go with a 2400cc NA engine (270hp@8000rpm), 6 speed H pattern manual and FWD. I'd keep the WRC wing though.

We've had cars who've had the exhaust replaced. Not fun.
The dream cars tho... amazing. You're a Honda fan aren't you?

I think they were aiming more for it to be a special edition item rather than a real performance car.
Reminds me of the time Corvette launched it's 25th anniversary edition car or the Ferrari with the Enzo Ferrari car to celebrate their first Formula 1 title of the millenium.
