To those taking part in the War for Azurlavai,

This is your warning. We of the Lost Legion, the people -you- strive to control, have had enough. For too long, we have sat idle and watched our sons, daughters and brothers march for your wars. For too long, we have played the sheep to the shepherd, the slaves in the factories and the dead on the battlefield. There have been too many regime changes, too much violence to solve problems.

Enough is enough. Nothing has changed in ten years, since this war began. Only more lives lost. We know what the problem is.

The problem is you. Revolutionaries and governments who declare they will do it better than those who came before. Armies crying for honor and a better tomorrow. So we shall remove the problem.

The Lost Legion is an army of the people, for the people. People who are tired of constant war, people tired of foreigners trampling on our soil to 'solve' our issues. People who do not want a revolution, do not want a better way of life. We are the people who simply want to live without worry of an artillery barrage in the middle of the night, of uniformed thugs burning down our houses, of our families being drafted to go to their meaningless deaths. So we will end the war by ending you and starting anew.

Do not mistake us for supporting Svakke and his fool's crusade. We are not the Revenant. The Revenant holds to the ideals of being a soldier, that even in the war for survival, there is still honor and limits. Look at what that mentality got our country. We are not a force of soldiers, bound by unspoken laws and immaterial honor. We are a force of blooded, bruised, beaten people. We are animals, because you -made- us animals. So we shall -fight- like animals.

We are the Lost Legion. And we shall tear away the old world so the new may sprout in its place. No more Commonwealth, no more Republic, no more foreign rule and intervention.

And we shall start with Altinum, to repay the Imperium for the 200,000 they have already claimed.

We are the Lost Legion. And we fight for those who cannot be heard in the storm.
*No battle plan survives first contact with the enemy.
*If your positions are firmly set and you are prepared to take the enemy assault on, he will bypass you.
*If your ambush is properly set, the enemy won't walk into it.
*If your flank march is going well, the enemy expects you to outflank him.

Ghant votes to expel the Imperium from the CPO

Prime Minister takes a stand against “blatant acts of unprovoked and premature aggression”

Prime Minister Nymun Izarbegiratzeak has harsh words for the Imperium.

(Ghish, Ghant)- Prime Minister Nymun Izarbegiratzeak gave a public statement explaining his government’s rationale behind voting to expel the Imperium from the Cornellian Peace Organization.

“Recently, the Shrailleeni delegate to the Cornellian Peacekeeping Organization has introduced a motion to dismiss the delegation from the Imperium of Arbites from the CPO, citing the evidence provided that the Imperium of Arbites launched a multi-target missile strike against innocent civilians in Eastern Azurlavai, which has caused a humanitarian crisis in that region.

I would like to echo the Shrailleeni delegate’s belief that the Cornellian Peace Organization was founded to prevent, mitigate, and resolve humanitarian disasters such as the one caused by the Imperium of Arbites in Eastern Azurlavai. I would also like to eco the Shrailleeni delegate’s belief that the actions of the Imperium have thrown into doubt and jeopardy the neutrality, compassion, and sincerity of any and all future CPO missions to any nation and in any capacity, so long as Imperium soldiers remain part of CPO contingents.

This decision was an easy one to make. How can an organization devoted to peace, harbor within its ranks a nation that demonstrates a blatant disregard for peace? Ghant this day stands for peace, for justice, and ultimately for what is right. And what is right is removing the Imperium from the Cornellian Peace Organization. Such a removal is long overdue, in fact.

At this time, I urge all the nations of Cornellia to contemplate their positions seriously. Ghant has taken a side opposite of many of its allies, but this was done not because of politics, but because it is simply the right thing to do. For the reputation, credibility and mission of the CPO is now in doubt for as long as the Imperium is a member. So I ask you now, do you stand on the side of peace, or do you stand on the side of blatant acts of unprovoked and premature aggression? The time to stop the spread of violence and hate starts now.”

Attack on Altinum Confirmed

A Revenant splinter faction known as the Lost Legion has declared war on the whole of Cornellian civilization. Confirming previous intelligence indicating an attack on Altinum was imminent, this group has announced it will attempt to raze Altinum to the ground. The element of surprise being lost, they have now hoped to intimidate and deceive the international community with baseless accusations, falsified figures, and brazen threats.

The Inquisition is investigating if the Lost Legion also conducted the raid on Clausentum. It is believed that the Navy's preemptive strike on targets supporting the Legion's military was essential to disrupting its invasion plans. Otherwise, the Legion may have been able to put to sea before Altinum was fortified. Such a force would have been capable of killing every man, woman, and child in Cirpi, possibly the entire island. Given the group's declaration, that very well might have been their objective.

At this time, it would be premature to speculate the exact reason for the Lost Legion's schism the wider Revenant. They may be too extreme in their agenda, possibly being the faction within the Revenant that advocated the terrorist attack in Novitera. Perhaps they disagreed on priorities; the Legion may have deployed forces to the south in preparation for the invasion of Altinum in contravention of the Revenant's objective of Lowell City.

Satellite photographs like the one found below confirm massive troop movements towards the southern coast of Kinischa State. The Inquisition plans to share all such photographs with the international intelligence community.

This is the menace which the Imperium sought to contain. This is why the Imperium had no choice. This is why the nations of Cornellia must band together against a common threat, one which indiscriminately murders the innocent and guilty all in a single stroke.

Confession: Eiven Hammersland, Terrorist

"My name is Eiven Hammersland. I was born in Maquis State in Azurlavai. My mother was a drunk. My earliest memory of her was a slap in the face. My last memory of her was her leaving the house when the war started. I never knew my father."

"I survived the first part of the war by stealing, when I could get away with not getting caught. Joined up with a few guys, then we didn't have to worry about getting caught. We just took what we needed from people who couldn't stop us."

"Things got worse. We couldn't make it on our own. Turned out the government--the real government--was hiring. They had muscle. What they wanted were thieves. People who could sneak into places and get out. People who could take things...or leave them behind discreetly. They would train us to make us better, but we were freelance."

"We were paid handsomely for our services. By the government and anyone else. We were paid the most to attack the Imperium. It would be dangerous, but the government had to send a message. It was scared of what the Imperium might do."

"I was to bomb targets with the intention of causing the highest number of deaths. It was our intention to demoralize Arbiters, from civilians at home to soldiers in the field, by making them feel that we could strike anywhere with impunity. It was believed the Imperium could be dissuaded from attacking the Republic."

"We could not carry out our mission. The Inquisition was upon us at the last possible moment. Before our execution, we shall pay penance before the God-Emperor, so that our souls may yet be saved."

"It is high time for ballots, and not bullets. For bread and butter, not tanks treading on foreign streets. For reform, for schools, for more police on the beat, instead of building up a massive war machine used only to bully our neighbors. The only armed forces that the new New Othman needs are those which defend the nation itself from aggression. We don't need the trillions that we used to spend for that." - Udan Varcar

Savvy Novi
Novitera's Most Innovative Magazine

The Oufit's Chief Spook On Azurlavai!

The following is a question and answer with Mason Dalach, Director of the Federation Intelligence Service. He has served in that position for five years now with much praise from Chief Executor Trask. Before ascending to the highest position within the FIS, Mason started out as an analyst in the Directorate of Intelligence. After seven years in that position, he went on to work in the Domestic and Ceti Divisions. While Mason has never been a field operative, he's had a hand in a considerable number of covert operations! Savvy Novi was able to get an interview with this illustrious spy master where he outlines the Outfit's approach to terrorism and the conflict in Azurlavai.

Q: Mister Dalach, what is the Outfit doing about terrorism such as the attack on U of Soletrek?

Mason: Well you know I can't go into exact details but we've been expanding our efforts in Southern Belisaria and Arcologia with some notable successes. I am very optimistic in our ability to curtail regional terrorism in the coming future. Especially attacks on our soil.

Q: What about Azurlavai? Is it true that the bombing is the Revenant's doing?

Mason: We cannot know for sure but further destabilization in Azurlavai and Revenant hold over the country is definitely something that needs to be stopped. Most of Cornellia agrees with me on this.

Q: The military has gone into Azurlavai. We've deployed 7 battalions and 2 air wings to Shalum. Do you think the military approach is the right one?

Mason: Of course. The Revenant needs to be prevented from gaining a military victory over Commonwealth and BL forces. We don't want a rogue state in Belisaria. But it is only one step in the right direction that has to be approached delicately.

Q: What do you mean by right direction?

Mason: Military victory is necessary, sure. But the Outfit thinks that solving the problem of Azurlavai will be a lot longer process. We have to treat the cause of this instability.

Q: What would that be?

Mason: Poverty. Lack of jobs, lack of infrastructure, especially with this missile strike from Arbites. It will take years for Azurlavai to recover once the war is won. A lot of the people are pushed into the Revenant, the Ice Trolls, the Jotnar or this new Lost Legion due to lack of opportunities and security. Without that, Azurlavaians are turning to organized crime which is funding the Revenant.

Q: Is this why the government voted for the CPO motion to expel the Imperium? They made the problem worse?

Mason: I have no personal knowledge of that. That decision was made by UF policymakers. My job is to provide those policymakers with reliable intelligence so they can make an informed decision.

Q: Isn't the Imperium's attack a serious blow against the Revenant despite the numerous civilians it killed?

Mason: It is from a solely military perspective. But what I'm trying to say is that the problem in Azurlavai is much greater than that. The missile strike was also a blow against Commonwealth and BL efforts to win the hearts and minds of the people. They're now turning to the Revenant and Lost Legion because they're angry. They think the whole world is against them. This deep seated hatred can linger for years to come. Against us, against Belisaria and the whole of Cornellia even.

Q: Yet you said a military victory against the Revenant is necessary correct?

Mason: It is albeit of the cost of creating other problems. More destruction will be necessary creating more hatred. Even if a military victory can be achieved, Azurlavai will remain an unstable, impoverished haven for organized crime and terrorism for years to come.

Q: Do you think the Commonwealth and Belisarian League should allow the Imperium to join the fight?

Mason: That's a tricky question. Their assistance could help with achieving the military victory. But what does this say to the Azurlavaian people when our forces are fighting with theirs? They are already outraged by the Imperium's attack. This could further push supporters to the Lost Legion and Revenant. Both organizations threaten Cornellian wide peace and security. Imperium involvement would be both conducive and detrimental to the greater goal.

Q: What would you recommend for the Commonwealth and Belisarian League Security Chair?

Mason: Hard to say. I think that unless things are truly desperate, they should ask the Imperium to relegate themselves to purely defensive action for Altinum. They have every right to defend their territory but any further proactive military involvement in Azurlavai on the Imperium's part will only fan the flames more. Also, there should be some focus devoted to winning the logistical battle. Cut off the Revenant's supplies that come from outside of Azurlavai and we may be able to choke them instead of fighting a much more destructive war of attrition. Easier said than done of course but its worth an effort. It's a Catch 22 really. The more destruction we cause trying to win the war, the more problems there are going to be for us afterwards.

Q: Thank you for your time Mister Dalach.

Tuesday November 11, 2014

This is the first time I've ever written something like a letter to the editor. I had to write this when there were news reports about me. I had to hear about it from someone else, who said somehow what happened to me was in the news back home. I was shocked. I never told anyone but a counselor and close friends. There was a reason for that: I didn't want this attention.

What happened to me was a violation of privacy. The loss of intimacy is something I am still coming to terms with. It is all I can do just to write this much about it.

I don't blame the people who did it anymore. They didn't degrade me, one even tried to comfort me when they saw how upset I was. They probably didn't even have a choice in the matter.

I am getting help, but more to the point, I went to Aquila after San Marco. I met refugees who were assaulted in their homes, stripped naked, and turned out into the countryside to die of exposure. They had stories of how their friends and family were tortured, raped, and murdered. Their stories weren't in the press. They should be.

Instead they're all talking about me, and I don't want them to. I will never forgive whoever leaked my story to the media. This is yet another violation of privacy. What happened to me, happened to me and me alone. It didn't happen to the newscasters repeating the phrase "cavity search" 24 hours a day. It didn't happen to the feminist protestors saying we should cut off aid to people who have endured hardships they can barely imagine. It happened to me.

I appreciate the outpouring of support, but please, stop making me relive it. I will get through this. There are others who don't know if they'll live to say tomorrow.

Chancellor Orders Withdrawal of Troops From Shalum After Bundestag Rejects Deployment Extension

by Victor Meier

Image

AUGSBURG- In a final decision on a long and stressful issue, the Chancellor has ordered the withdrawal of Wehrmacht forces from Shalum, effectively ending Vyrsar's intervention in the Azurlavaian conflict. With several Senators referring to the conflict as 'Not holding significant interest for the safety of Vyrsar' and 'A black hole that will only suck in lives and resources', the Bundestag had also voted to reject the proposal for extension of the deployment of Vyrsarian troops.

The intervention came at a cost of 31 casualties- including seven dead- and one aircraft shot down.

Rioting in Tritonsberg!

Image
People gather in the streets of Tritonsberg in the wake of the DUP’s latest “purge”

Last night, our nation was rocked once again by a new wave of violence. As the Division of Unilateral Policy began initiating searches for both Lost Legion and Revenant operatives, hundreds of people were summarily executed, some just for resisting. When the people attempted to rise up and make their feelings known, riot police were deployed to hold back the screaming crows outside Tritonsberg’s city hall. In response, Deacon Gauring gave this statement to the public.

“We must stand together in this dark hour as we purify our cities. Think, everyone! Your neighbor, your friend, your coworker could all be feeding intelligence back to the enemy, those trying to bring down that which our great nation is working towards. Yes, there will be sacrifices. Yes, we will have to take detestable approaches. But we must be willing to give up a few fingers to save the hand, and therefore the body. Already, the DUP has arrested hundreds of Revenant conspirators and found a dozen Legion cells in basements. These are your neighbors. And they want to destroy you.”

Rather than make things better, however, the statement seems to have made things even worse, as Tritonsberg turns into a battleground between protestors and the police and DUP. While Gauring has called for the State Army and local Haer and Stormtrooper forces, General Haskill of the 7th Infantry Division said, to quote “Shooting civilians because they’re against getting shot? You’ll have to shoot –me-.” General Haskill was taken into custody by DUP officers an hour after saying that.

For now, the city of Tritonsberg seems to be at a boiling point, and what the DUP and Gauring himself does at this juncture…may very well decide the fate of the country itself.

Gallagher State Secedes! Liam State Threatens War!

Image
The Gallagherian borders have been sealed by their state troops, forcing all UCA military parties out of the region

Citing the loss of Lowell City to the Revenant, the rioting in Tritonsberg and the formation of the DUP itself, Guvernor-Militant Lukas Alexander stepped forward today after Deacon Gauring's own address to announce that Gallagher state is breaking away from the Commonwealth. This shocking development made many suspect that the militarist (and suspiciously right-wing) state might be going back to their fascist roots, but Alexander's own words denied the rumor that they were aligning with the Revenant.

"It is clear that the Commonwealth cannot keep control in its own territory, and the Revenant or NRA or whatever they choose to call themselves has provoked the ire of almost every single country seeking to help us. If the threat of massive Imperial military action was not enough to indicate it, the continued violence across several once recovering states and the recent turn of the Commonwealth's policy from freedom and democracy to totalitarianism and security gives me the sad choice. Gallagher -must- stand on its own to weather this storm. I will protect my people however I can, and so long as no one comes across our borders, we shall see no reason to interfere in others' affairs. You have nothing to fear from Gallagher if you leave us alone."

Immediately after the declaration, all remaining Commonwealth personnel who did not wish to defect to Gallagher service were swiftly escorted out of the state, and Gallagheriscen troops occupied the military facility known as Kastell Isolation, fortifying it further and turning it into a border post. All news sources have gone dark as to what is happening behind those lines.

In response, Liam's state parliament declared that if Alexander didn't stop this idiocy and rejoin the fight, which they pointed out Gallagher has been suspiciously holding back from, then they would have no choice but to deploy Liamite State Army soldiers to forcefully march into Einherjar and bring the rogue state back to the fold.

Tensions are high as both sides amass state forces along their borders, and who can say what will cause the first shots to be fired.

Valikgrad Gazette,
Stepan Nurec

The final phase of the local elections nationwide saw the upstart Federalist Party gain serious ground in contests for several prominent public offices, such as mayors and municipal councils.

Federalist Party Chairman Mikis Baukis boasted that, "we proved that the Valikan people are ready to welcome our message of law and order, national sovereignty and security, and the moral and spiritual restoration of this country."

He would have reason for optimism, given that the Federalists now have majorities on 83 local councils, more than they ever dominated before. It certainly improves their chances to gain seats at the provincial and national levels when those elections come due. Even so, those elections are still some time away, as the Constitution mandates clear terms of offices for the provinces and requires considerable measures before the federal legislature can be dissolved for more elections. In the meantime, nothing is guaranteed and anything can change in the interim.

Time alone will tell what will become of Baukis and his party, now increasingly dominated by the Magi minority. Time alone will tell what shall become of the rest of the parties as well. The future could be bleak for some parties indeed.

As for the majority NLP-PDP coalition, it held more than it lost, and half of the gains for the Federalists came from the Christian Democratic Union, among voters disgusted with the seemingly compliant stance of the CDU regarding the DMZ and other objectionable and highly unpopular provisions of the Treaty of Beaulieu. Only one man in the nation is smiling right now, and that man is Mikis Baukis, who hopes that this indicates a sea change in Valikan politics that will benefit him.

Commonwealth Purges Kill Hundreds!
Empire Alters Its Stance on Azurlavai

Imperial City - As the war in Azurlavai wages with increasing ferocity and loss of life, the latest tragedy to emerge from the country came from the actions of the United Commonwealth government. In a series of massacres, styled as "purges," the Commonwealth systematically rounded up and murdered hundreds of its citizens in what can only be seen as a desperate attempt to retain its grip on power against an increasingly disillusioned populace.

The United Commonwealth admitted to perpetrating the attack on its own citizens in a recent article in Den Commonwealth Sentinel, in which Deacon Gauring justified the "purges" as an operation to remove "enemy spies" from the population. That these measures emerge now, in the wake of major local opposition to Commonwealth rule in the form of the anarchistic "Lost Legion" movement, is not believed to be coincidence.

More damning, however, was the admission that the United Commonwealth summarily executed hundreds of those arrested without due process or trial. Slaughter of Azurvalai civilians on this scale has not been seen since the Imperium's vicious and unjustified bombardment, and while the scale of the Commonwealth's massacre was far smaller its intent was equally horrific. It is impossible at this time to know how many are being rounded up and killed by the Commonwealth, but Deacon Gauring's haunting command to "purify our cities" implies a nation-wide program of murder. In Tritonsberg, where rioting has consumed the city in response to the killings, Shrailleeni aid workers and peacekeepers have personally verified the executions.

Semanna Vassen, an aid volunteer working in one of the two Shrailleeni aid camps in Tritonsberg, recorded her view of the arrests and the aftermath:

"I saw them drag an entire family out of their apartment complex. The father was angry, shouting at them not to harm his family. They shot him on the spot. The rest were dragged away, crying and distraught. We haven't seen them since. It was...there was nothing that any of us could do. I pray for them."

"Afterward, the people became very upset. They left their homes and workplaces, the city shut down. There were rumors that those arrested had been killed. Everyone was very angry. Then families started to receive notice from the government of the executions. The rioting started shortly afterward."

The executions have made an impact in Imperial City, where the Mother Empress recently issued a powerful condemnation against the Imperium of Arbites for its killing of Azurlavai civilians. So far the Shrailleeni Empire has continued to recognize and support the United Commonwealth as the legitimate government of Azurlavai throughout the growing conflict, despite diplomatic appeals made to the oppositional Revenant organization. In the wake of these "purges," Her Enlightened Majesty has issued a condemnation of the United Commonwealth which has translated to a major change in the Empire's political stance in the conflict.

"When we received proof that the Imperium had deliberately targeted civilian populations, I called this attack an inexcusable act. The actions of the United Commonwealth government, which has delivered death to hundreds and threatened thousands more, are no less inexcusable. The purposeful killing of innocents, indeed the Commonwealth's very citizens, has no justification, and only adds blood to the already horrific condition that the people of that nation must survive in.

This is not the first time that the legitimacy and honor of the United Commonwealth government has been called into question. This government feigned to care for the welfare of its people, but refused to allow international peacekeepers into many areas. It characterized the Imperium's massacre as a triumphant achievement for its goals. It's toxic agenda has lost it the control of entire divisions of its army, proof that it is no longer capable of orderly rule. The state of Gallagher has seceded. And indeed, a government which must murder its own people to rule is no government at all.

Therefore, I hereby issue a strong condemnation of the United Commonwealth and of its nominal leader, Deacon Gauring. These executions are an attack on the innocent people of Azurlavai, and the Shrailleeni Empire will not allow them to pass without challenge. We will not abandon our commitment to neutrality, or our aid to people of Azurlavai, but until these massacres cease and the United Commonwealth again presents itself with morality, dignity, and honor, the legitimacy of its rule shall no longer be considered certain by the Empire of Shrailleen."

The implications of the Mother Empress's announcement have yet to be fully explored, as formal trade with Azurlavai came to a halt upon the increase in hostilities there and the Shrailleeni embassy has been operating an a minimum staff. However, it did not escape the notice of Shrailleeni officials that for all of the charges lain against them, the Revenant have yet to organize anything so repulsive as the massacre of civilians. While the Imperial Palace has remained silent regarding its stance toward the Revenant and committed to its stance of neutrality, throwing the legitimacy of the UCA into question undoubtably opens the door for increased diplomatic contact with the opposition organization.

CPO Divided Over Imperium Explusion
Shrailleen Stands Firm, Hints At Future

Imperial City - The member delegates of the Cornellian Peacekeeping Organization have met in session to discuss the Shrailleeni Empire's proposal to remove the Imperium of Arbites from the council, based on accusations that the Imperium violated CPO principles by deliberately attacking a civilian population while operating as part of a CPO peacekeeping force. While the official decision has yet to be made, it is reported that the deliberations stand at eight in favor and ten against, with three votes still undecided.

While the motion appears destined for failure, the Shrailleeni delegation to the CPO remained unfazed by the predicted result.

"We are disheartened that this motion has received so many votes against, but we are equally heartened to see that so many nations agree with its principles. The issue at hand is not one of declaring war. Many CPO nations have been to war, or experienced Civil War. Nor is it about of the behavior of nations which agreed to peacekeeping and then left their more honorable allies stranded, which should be addressed in a separate motion.

This motion was about morality, and a commitment to the founding principles of the CPO, which holds peace, life, and compassion as the highest virtues among nations. When we formed the CPO we all agreed that an organization was needed which would be dedicated to neutrality, diplomacy, and to ensuring that the suffering of the innocent during wartime would not go ignored. The Imperium has shown that it is callous to suffering, that it views civilians as military targets rather than human beings, and instead of showing remorse for its actions it has repeatedly flailed at making cold and unverified justifications.

The Shrailleeni Empire does not believe that the threat of attacks on Imperium soil, if in fact such threats are credible, could ever justify the response issued. A declaration of war on the Revenant, though in violation of the CPO mission of neutrality, would have been infinity more honorable and less horrific than the slaughter which was instigated. If this motion fails we will of course continue to work with the Imperium within the confines of the CPO. However, I think I speak for all Shrailleeni when I say that we will never again trust them."

OPINION: CUT THE DEFICIT, NOT TAXES

November 15th 2014
ImageImageImageImage

Both major parties need to get serious about cutting the deficit if we are going to make any progress on the debt crisis, says Dr. Sydney Burchard.

Cartoon of the week:
Image

When Alizerians voted overwhelmingly to oust the Conservatives from government, and elect Anthony Ashton and the Liberal Party to government, they did so because the economy was in the dire straits.

Inflation was in double digit figures, unemployment was about to hit double digit figures and the national debt was about to hit triple figures as a percentage of GDP - a GDP which has been seeing negative growth.

And so Anthony Ashton, Donald Douglas and their merry band of free-market buccaneers did proceed on the most radical and reformist agenda Alizeria has ever seen. The financial sector was deregulated. Subsidies to farmers were abolished, and tariffs were slashed to almost zero while the government pursued free trade deals with any and every country willing to give them one.

Chancellor of the Exchequer, Donald Douglas, then waved his magic wand and poof! Taxes were slashed by more than a half and the Liberals rejoiced - because after that GDP growth was up again, and unemployment and inflation were going down.

And so they celebrated, deliberately ignorant of a growing debt, and a deficit that remained mostly untouched, as they borrowed approximately $27 million a day to fund their tax cuts and keep the government running.

The Conservatives, like the prophetess Cassandra, tried to pin the Liberals on this fact - but no one was willing to listen to the party that had created Alizeria's record debt and deficit in the first place.

But the fact of the matter remains that Alizeria has been running a deficit for too long - and both parties are guilty.

The Conservatives are guilty of years of reckless spending, we know that much. We also know that Sir Edward Vermile promised that, as Alizeria's economy grew, so too would the revenue necessary to fund all these extra spending programmes. What we know now is that the economy never grew - in fact, it shrank, but the money was spent anyway.

The Liberals have done just enough to look better than the Conservatives, and give the illusion of fiscal responsibility, when in fact they too have been extraordinarily generous with money we don't have. A tax cut, some deregulation and some hard-nosed rhetoric about 'dole-bludgers' and everyone is suddenly blinded to the fact that the Liberals have made very few spending cuts, despite a whopping tax cut.

They have made just enough cuts - mostly to social services that those on the far right are ideologically opposed to anyway - to reduce the deficit - but make no mistake, there is still a deficit and the country is very much in the red. Most of Sir Edward Vermile's social programmes are still alive and well, and "the end of the welfare state as we know it" has really just translated to "it's the same old welfare state, there's just some extra paperwork involved if you're unemployed".

And even those optimistic projections that the country might be back in the black within three years still mask a further issue - yes, we've finally got the budget balanced. But how are we going to pay down a national debt that could well end up twice our GDP?

The fact is that it's time for our two main parties to stop playing politics and start getting serious about the deficit. No more big spending from the Conservatives, no more big tax cuts from the Liberals.

This may be why the Liberals have quietly introduced a flat sales tax - they need the revenue from somewhere, and those income tax cuts now just look like smoke and mirrors. The Chancellor of the Exchequer knows this, but unless he starts making some politically unpopular serious spending cuts he isn't going to balance the budget any time soon.

His friends in the business community want low taxes. The people of Alizeria want their public services. And Alizeria's national debt could well bankrupt the nation if it isn't handled correctly. Douglas knows that he can't please both groups and he knows it'll involve a delicate balancing act if he is to solve the third issue without committing political suicide.

Mark Hoover (C) Defeats Kevin Egger (L) By Wide Margin.
Nov 14, 2014

It is not surprising that President Mark Hoover has won reelection for his second and last term. What has experts surprised is that the President won by higher margins then many had predicted as the likely results. President Mark Hoover won reelection by 55%; his chief rival, Kevin Egger from the rising Libertarian Party, managed to end with 35% of the vote. The third and final front-runner, Peter Faust of the Imperial Monarchist Party, managed to acquire 7% of the vote - the remaining three percent went to Mary Colon, a Liberal Democrat Party member and outspoken socialist. The landslide victory was a welcomed victory by the President's campaign team and supporters; Keven Egger was the only opponent to surrender the race on Nov 2nd and offered congratulations to the reelected President. His outspoken critic Mary Colon however has voiced her disagreement with the result, promising that she will "appeal to the courts and throne to investigate this suspicious election results." As of November fourteenth and three recounts later, the results have still not changed.

Election experts have since election night began explaining how the results ended up being so. Josef Unterbrink, an election and poll expert here at Royal News explains that the results came about through smaller consequences that lead to a larger result. "To start with, conservatives were split between three different candidates; the firm right conservative and current President, a monarchist far-right nationalist, and a libertarian centrist. That is the largest, however, issue that faced all three candidates." Unterbrink continued to explain why the challengers lost, "Because of their association. Egger for example, who came closest, had liberal and socialist connections that became public during the race. TECT has been a conservative nation for generations and rarely opened up to more left ideologies. Faust was far too radical and made it clear he wanted to return to the old days of the Empire; a time without electricity and yearly wars as well as an abusive government. Although both parties will not say that is their stance, voters saw that as the case. And I think we all know why the radical leftist Colon lost." We asked about the results and how they could end up so strained. "Hoover ran an excellent campaign. He ran both negative and positive ads at the right time without getting ugly. The fact that the race was not closer was due to the race being so split this election; experts like myself believed others would drop out and support a single challenger, which didn't happen. If that had happened, I think we could have seen a much tighter race and maybe even a loss for the President."

We continued on the Mary Colon subject and her attempts to extend the fight even though she had no obvious chances. "She's a sore loser." Unterbrink responded. "It was obvious that a radical like her, and her party, would not win any major elections in this country. Im not saying a liberal can't win, we even have a few lawmakers that are liberals. Im saying her in general, along with her radical left ideology, are unpopular in TECT. She protects anarchists, communists, and Islamic extremists - all things voters think about when voting for security and foreign affairs. She was also caught being hypocritical in her aggressive fight against Hoover - her campaign was almost completely negative from start to finish. She has been the largest critic of Hoover, from start to im sure the end, she has accused him of dictatorship, fascism, and sexism on multiple occasions. It's like she's not even a resident of this country most of the time.

Royal News asked Unterbrink about the presidential elections in general and why they matter in a country that has an absolute monarch in power. "It's important for a domestic sense of governance." is how he began. "It is true that the monarch, Emperor JC, has an absolute power over the country. However; his grandfather first brought a modern democratic system that JC has used efficiently throughout his reign so far. This system is used to elect and manage the country domestically for the Emperor. As the leader of domestic policies; the President assists and runs the country. In many senses, in a more democratic country, the President would be viewed more as a Vice-President to the Emperor who would be the President. It's a complicated system that the Emperor uses to manage to help run the country. It's this country's most democratic election that helps represent the people by providing an elected leader to assist the Emperor with the daily processes of running the country."

Mary Colon has denied our request for an interview; her office however sent us a statement that reads: "Mrs. Colon believes there are have been faults in this election process and that suspicious behaviors have been reported. If election officials refuse to investigate further, then the Colon office will file suite with the Hoover Administration to investigate. Mrs. Colon is also preparing a lawsuit against the Administration for signs of campaign corruption charges in order to investigate reports of campaign fraudulent charges. Mrs. Colon has also began procedures to have an audience with the throne in order to get further assistance."

Sorta expected Hoover to win; he had a great campaign and the conservatives, including me, were split. At least Egger lost with respect, unlike the rest who either blew off the defeat or are wasting the government's time because they're a sore loser. Stop wasting government money and time Colon, you fucking twit.

Prince John in Critical Condition

(Ghish, Ghant)- The Royal family made an announcement today regarding Prince John, the youngest of the three children born to the Empress this past Saturday.

“As many of you know, Prince John was born premature on account of superfetation. At present, he is in the hospital undergoing treatment to help him survive, as he is very weak and suffering from problems that come with being born premature. John may be in critical condition, but he has already proven that he is stronger than he looks and will not go down without a fight. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.”

New Ambassador to New Edom

Also in the news is that a new Ambassador to New Edom has been appointed. Prince Alexander of Ghant has been tapped to replace the outgoing Nora Odiaga, who is on maternity leave and who is accepting a new position within the ministry.

Alexander, 23, is the eldest son of Prince Stephen of Ghant and Lysa Baltkalns. Stephen is the third son of the late Emperor Albert of Ghant. 6th in line to the throne, Alexander has recently graduated from the University of Ghish with a degree in international relations, and his posting in New Edom is supposed to help “keep the relationship between Ghant and New Edom tight.”

The Long Night Begins Tonight

In other news, the long night is set to begin in Thule tonight, as the sun will not rise again in the northernmost province until January 29th. Foreigners are encouraged to visit to experience the long night, but also advised to take into account the extremely cold temperatures and to stick to the cities.

Finance Minister caught paying hush money!

Postby New Othman » Sat Nov 15, 2014 10:17 am

New Ankara Chronicle,
Dursun Demir

Due to recent tips from sources that I cannot name, I was able to produce a video recording of Finance Minister Nasuh Diyadin, a leading member of the ruling Social Republican Party, senior party in the coalition government, paying hush money to several women that proved to be former subordinates of his, including suspiciously large amounts given his annual net salary of 134,000 crescents. Further inquiry into his spending habits, which he didn't bother to conceal, found Diyadin spending 86,000 alone on his new house, 210,000 on his Rolls Royce, and 54,000 on his latest suits. One does not have to be an accountant, tax agent, or mathematician to know that the minister's expenditures far exceed his salary.

This can mean one of three things. First, the Finance Minister could be so ruinously extravagant that he must be in debt up to his outrageously fashionable fez. Second, he could be taking money from some illegal means, such as extortion, bribery, or embezzlement, none of which were reported in his tax returns (all of them public record, as he is a public official). Third, both could be the case and he could be even more dishonest than the usual run-of-the-mill ex-Fascist civil servant.

In any one of these scenarios, the Finance Minister is unworthy of his office. He should at least resign and submit to a deposition hearing before a state prosecutor to determine if he is in fact prosecutable for any high crimes while in office. In addition, I have interviewed both women and they admitted to accepting the money in return for not complaining about being required to entertain the Finance Minister sexually in order to keep their positions. They were both also threatened with Customs Police audits and possible raids, as well as charges of tax evasion, if they should report the matter to the authorities. This is tantamount to duress and coercion, if true, and suggests that the Finance Minister will do anything to keep this business on the down low.

It is my view that this is a very grave scandal and that the Finance Minister has disgraced his high office, of which he was but a steward. He should also prepare to cooperate with the authorities, pay fines on back taxes, and confess his guilt, throwing himself upon the mercy of the courts. The longer he waits to do so, the worse the penalties that will follow for him, since I will not rest until he is prosecuted and removed from office as he should be.

Premier Ursula Weiler-Kotuk and Deputy Premier Akonder Tufan, you should both demand the resignation of this Finance Minister and his immediate arrest for his crimes while in office. This is a very real scandal and it should land the man or men responsible in prison where they belong. The credibility of our new democracy, as not being as corrupt as the old Fascist regime, is now at stake. Nothing less than full reckoning will save the government from losing the confidence of the People and the press, indeed of the world and region themselves.

It is time to pay the piper, Finance Minister Nasuh Diyadin. You can neither run nor hide from this. This is a new, democratic New Othman, and no one is above the law or the rule of law. No one, not even you.

"Radical feminism in the west is less about womens liberation (and that's fair - women in the west have been largely liberated after all), and more about authoritarian thought policing." - Hirota

"The function of our social services is to discourage sedition." - Premier Bayazid Izmirek, 2005

Volkhinian Valley Seized by Soldiers of 1st Company, 6th Air Assault Regiment

by Victor Meier

Image

TIKHOV- After a four-hour long battle, involving 48 soldiers of the 6th Air Assault Regiment and elements of the NZV believed to be numbering at nearly 200, the Wehrmacht has gained control of the vital Volkhinian Valley in Northeastern Nekulturnya. The significance of the Valley lies in its ability to allow NZV forces to launch rockets and mortars into Vyrsarian territory, and that is the exact reason why the push to wrestle control of it from the NZV- called Operation Valley Shield- was made. As the valley is reinforced, the costs of the intense urban close quarters combat dealt a healthy blow to the NZV at 32 casualties- 23 dead and 9 wounded- compared to the Wehrmacht's cost of 6 soldiers wounded. Only two are in critical condition, but are expected to survive and make full recovery. The last four soldiers are expected to return to active service by the end of the month.

Major rebel stronghold falls to Security Forces!

The State Security Forces have captured a major rebel stronghold from the insurgent faction known only as 'Tsarskaya loyalistov Fraktsiya' (Tsarist Loyalist Faction). An estimated 21 insurgent soldiers were killed in action, while another 144 were captured and 12 were missing in action. The battle is estimated to have lasted roughly 8 hours before the assault seized the enemy command center. This latest campaign was the final phase of the recent sweep of the Siniy Reka Dolina area, the strongest concentration of rebel strength in the New Macurean Occupation Zone.

General Ira Murazawa, the New Macurean military governor of the occupation zone and commander of its military forces, announced that, "This conflict has turned a serious corner now. We have broken the back of the insurgent faction that was most critical and harmful in our zone. The Tsarist faction is neutralized. Only the various Communist and separatist factions remain. Some of these cross the inter-zone borders, but if we can gain co-operation with our fellow occupying powers. We trust that this support will be forthcoming."

Visiting key sites in Nekulturnaya, General Ios Melin himself vowed to "extirpate this insurgency once and for all. This has gone on long enough, in no small part due to the complacency and incompetence of the former Logical Council regime. It is time to end this permanently and bring Nekulturnaya to heel at last."

General Melin also warned that, "anyone who tries to subvert the rule of the Five Occupying Powers in Nekulturnaya does so at great peril to the region. We are the five nations that stand in the gap, that bar the way to further nuclear terrorism and proliferation. Given the track record of certain developing nations that have claimed to be nuclear powers of late, one must view their ambitions in this region with great alarm, especially in light of their own instability."

PROTESTS OVER HOMOSEXUALITY TURN TO RIOTS
  • PRO-LGBT GROUPS CLASH WITH OPPONENTS OF HOMOSEXUALITY
  • KING CONDEMNS VIOLENCE AS POLICE STRUGGLE TO MAINTAIN ORDER

November 18th 2014

Peaceful protests have turned to violent clashes, as pro and anti LGBT rights groups took to the streets after a petition against the Homosexual Law Reform Bill was delivered to Parliament.
Image
Clashes between pro-LGBT groups and opponents to homosexual law reform have turned into some of the worst
violence Alizeria has ever seen

In what is believed to be some of the worst violence in Alizeria since the Westfield Miners Strike in 1909, witnesses in the capital city of Krostuk described clashes between two rival groups of protesters as "like a civil war", while police in riot gear attempted to keep order - the first time Alizerian police have ever had to resort to using riot gear.

The clashes began after a truck delivered a petition to Parliament against a bill to decriminalise homosexuality which was signed by over a million people - more than a third of Alizeria's adult population.

Pro-LGBT protestors attempted to stop the truck from reaching Parliament by blocking off Cornellia Avenue - the major road leading to the Houses of Parliament, with many throwing eggs at the truck as it slowly approached Parliament.

Opponents of the bill retaliated at first confronting the pro-LGBT group, singing hymns and carrying Bibles and crosses. It is unknown at this stage as to when it happened, but at some point a fist fight between members of the rival groups broke out on the intersection of Cornellia Avenue and Sheeptown Quay, disrupting traffic and causing police to intervene.

Six policemen are believed to have been injured as members of both groups clashed with police while attempting to march up King Street in downtown Krostuk.

Police have since barricaded off a number of streets in central Krostuk, while entire suburbs have been blocked off, including the suburbs of Sheeptown, Ducklands, Eastmunster and Arrowton at northern end of Brittany Place.

Commuters attempting to enter the city via rail have also been delayed by several hours after an explosive device now believed to have been a firework was denoted near Krostuk Central Station. One commuter who was travelling into the city from the southern suburb of Jewtown said he "noticed absolutely nothing unusual" and that "the trains are always delayed."

There was violence reported in other cities, including a report of around 200 pro-LGBT protesters who entered and vandalised a church in Everton, and another of policemen in Auckonto being attacked after attempting to arrest 24 people for 'public indecency' and two people for homosexuality, after several homosexual couples took to the streets and began to display affection publicly as an act of protest.

The shocking scenes are considered completely unusual coming from Alizeria, a normally peaceful country where people rarely lock their doors and where crime and violence are all but totally unheard of.

King Nikolas II released a public statement from Palatine Palace - which is itself being closely guarded by members of the Armed Forces - condemning the violence.

"This is Alizeria, and Alizeria is a peaceful Kingdom," He said. "Violence in all its forms, for whatever reason, is not acceptable."

Fran Baldwin, the MP whose bill is considered the source of the controversy, was not available for comment, nor was Prime Minister Anthony Ashton whose office released a brief statement calling for calm and condemning the violence.

Father Gordon O'Hare - whose group 'The Family Values Institute' was responsible for the petition against the bill - also condemned the clashes but commented that it showed that most Alizerians did not want homosexuality to be legalised.

"We got one million signatures. One million people can't possibly be wrong." He said.

While the bill is soon due for a second reading in the House of Peasants, the House of Nobles has already voted that it will support it should the lower house pass it.

"A lot of members of the Alizerian upper class are actually in the closet," Said the Earl of Centerbury. "I mean look at how we dress. And listen to how we talk. It should be obvious! My wife has secretly been a man wearing a wig for the last 40 years."

Unsurprisingly the House of Clergy voted almost unanimously against it, however Alizeria's tricameral system only requires the approval of two of the three chambers of Parliament for a bill to be presented to the King. If the House of Peasants approves it, then the King is considered likely to sign it into law.

While the future of the bill is at this stage unknown, there is no doubt that it has proved the single most divisive issue in Alizeria for a generation, and seriously threatens to tear the small country apart.

Skirmishing in Dhuria!

Image
Gallagheriscen troops from the 91st Grenadiers deploy in force to Dhuria

As tensions ratchet up between all sides, one must look at the border between Liam and Gallagher. Ever since the latter seceded a week ago, there have been growing military movements on both sides of the border. Though outnumbered thanks to their greater commitment to the UCA war effort, Liam’s state army Trencher Korps have been working furiously to shore up their defensive works on the border and in adjoining territories.

With their new outpost at Kastell Isolation, Gallagher is in a prime position to cut off Liam state from the rest of the Commonwealth. Likewise, if Liam can close the gap Gallagher is essentially boxed in. The first rounds of gunfire were fired earlier today between scout teams from both sides, and the fight looks to be escalating already. Casualty numbers for both sides are unknown, but the first deaths have been confirmed.

In response, Guvernor-Militant Lukas Alexander deployed two regiments into Dhuria, routing them through Kastell Isolation. At the same time, he also issued a statement proclaiming his troops acted in self-defense to hostile activities, while Liam’s Prime Minister Ven Hansson retorted that Gallgheriscen state troops should not have been in Dhuria state at all, as they are no longer members of the Commonwealth, while Liam state is fully-authorized to deploy troops to assist the nation.

Deacon Gauring has issued no statement related to these incidents, and with the withdrawal of all Commonwealth military assets from that area for the reclamation of Radik state, its down to Liam’s Trenchers to take a stand against Gallagheriscen aggression.

Newstands Shut Down

Image
This sign and many like it have been seen hanging from news offices in Tritonsberg

On the order of Deacon Gauring and the DUP, every other news office in Tritonsberg has been ordered to close their doors and end their practices, leaving only the Sentinel as the true word of the Commonwealth to inform the people in Azurlavai. Lies, slander and propaganda have been prevalent in many other news networks across the city, and as such have failed to uphold the moral standard as the word of the people.

We at the Commonwealth take great delight in being personally chosen to represent the word of Gauring himself. After a brief term of reformation, our staff is now completely committed to spreading the news as the Deacon sees fit.

Long live the Commonwealth.

Siege of Halvo Bay Continues!

Image
Combat between the 3rd Stormtrooper Expeditionary and NRA forces in Baptiste Park

As the NRA prepares to march on Tritonsberg from the north, the battle for Halvo Bay continues block by block as the valiant defenders do their best to hold the enemy back. Urban fighting is at its highest, though our troops are holding the treacherous foe off until our noble allies arrive to reinforce the city. For now, at least, the Steel Legion stands with assistance from several Stormtrooper units to hold the city. Though badly outnumbered, they have succeeded in keeping the enemy back, standing their ground in this vital task.

Our elements embedded in the city have described combat at knife-range, flamethrowers, buildings being used as roadblocks and point-blank armored warfare. Holding this harbor is vital to maintaining the connection between Schmeidesse and Tritonsberg, as without the overland route all that is left is the sea. For now, our brave soldiers hold the line against tyranny and vicious militarism.

Gloves are off in Nekulturnya

Image
By Tim Stanton

SOLINGEN, Vyrsar-- There can be no doubt now that the United Confederation of Vyrsar has taken the gloves off in Nekulturnya. Not only was the Volkhinian Valley seized by soldiers of the 6th Air Assault Regiment, but a large buildup of armour, aviation and mechanized infantry has taken place at the town of Solingen across the Vyrsar border from Nekulturnya.

There are questions that this journalist has about these actions however. Such as: why have the Treaty Powers not convened to discuss this matter? Why are the governments of Nordkrusen and Grossprussia accepting Vyrsar's actions, and why is New Macureus cooperating?

New Edomite expatriates in the area, fleeing the fighting and hoping for repatriation or passage to friendly nations have expressed these thoughts with frustration. They have mentioned that there has been no attempt to contact the CPO for mediation, no attempt to formally convene the treaty powers. There are concerns that this military buildup is a sign of pursuit of Germanic hegemony in the region.

Political experts around the region scoff at this; the idea of pan-Germanic cooperation has never been a reality in Cornellia. However if Vyrsar is able to establish itself as northern Acheron's policeman under the guidance of what is rumoured to be a tough new Chancellor, Northern Acheron could be in for a new deal.

QUEEN OF THE QUEERS?
  • QUEEN MOTHER VOICES SUPPORT FOR LEGALISATION OF HOMOSEXUALITY
  • CONTROVERSIAL BILL PASSES SECOND READING IN HOUSE OF PEASANTS

November 21st 2014
ImageImageImageImage

Queen Jane, the Queen Mother, today caused controversy by releasing a statement in favour of homosexual law reform, in spite of the usual custom that royals refrain from intervening in politics.
Image
The Queen Dowager has issued a controversial statement in favour of homosexual law reform.

Her statement came as a crowd of anti-LGBT protesters amassed near Palatine Palace after rioting and protests in the capital entered an unprecedented third day. Protesters were kept away from the palace by barbed wire, police and, in a very rare act, armed members of the King's Guard for fear that violent protests could endanger the King.

“I'm a supporter of gay rights…and no longer a closet supporter either," Said the Queen Mother in a statement from the palace which was read by an assistant to the sound of loud boos from nearby protesters. "From the time I was a Princess in Ghant, I have never been able to understand how loving people of the same sex could be so wrong… it is still love, is it not? There are so many qualities that make up a human being - their minds, their hearts, their dreams - that what they do with other consenting adults is so low on the list that it is irrelevant. If people are good, and productive members of society, shouldn’t that be all that matters? I think so… and so should you.”

The statement is a departure from the usual custom in which members of the royal family refrain from interfering in politics or voicing their personal opinions on issues - although this is not the first time that the Queen Mother has courted such controversy. In the election of 1990, while reigning as Queen of Alizeria, she went on record denouncing Prime Minister Peter Williams as a "deluded socialist", although Williams went on to win re-election despite her comments.

Her comments came after Father Gordon O'Hare, founder of the anti-gay lobby group the Family Values Institute called for the King to exercise veto power if the bill passes its third reading in the House of Peasants.

"The King of Alizeria, as the head of the Church of Alizeria, wields a responsibility to uphold Christian values and the values of the church," He said. "Therefore this is one of those rare occasions in which not only is the King justified in vetoing the law, but it would represent a shirking of his responsibilities as our constitutional head of state, head of church and moral leader of the country if he was to give his assent to the law."

While the King, unlike his mother, has mostly kept quiet on the issue recently, most royal-watchers believe it is highly unlikely that he will veto the law, given that he is on record as being in favour of legalising homosexuality.

In 2009, before he was crowned King, the then-Prince said that he felt it was "None of my bloody business if a geezer wants to take it up the bum. It certainly shouldn't be a crime, mate."

Meanwhile, the bill at the centre of the controversy has passed its second reading in the House of Peasants, but by a narrower margin this time, with many Liberal MPs defecting on the issue after "hearing from their constituents", although what was most noticeable was the increased number of MPs choosing to abstain.

Prime Minister Anthony Ashton, though still yet to make a statement on the issue, has continued to quietly vote in favour of homosexual law reform, while the entire Conservative Party has been ordered by party whips to vote the bill down "at all costs" despite rumours of dissent on the back benches.

Violence which has swept through the country has mostly subsided, although most of central Krostuk remains blockaded by police and protestors and large demonstrations continue to take place across the country.

The Homosexuality Law Reform Bill - which will decriminalise homosexuality - has proved the most divisive issue in Alizeria in a generation.

It currently needs only to pass in the House of Peasants in order to be sent for royal assent after the House of Nobles voted to support the bill, in a landmark decision.

First Commissar Vair Padin denounces Deadora.

Postby New Macureus » Thu Nov 20, 2014 7:39 pm

New Macureus City Probe,
Alar Darin

First Commissar Vair Padin, in a rare speech given since the temporary and mysterious absence of General Ios Melin, openly expressed criticism of Deadora's attempt to blame "anyone but their own agents who created a false flag attack of the particular solar plant, when it is nothing but a pretext for aggression against Dengali. Between the Deadorans and the Shrailleeni, there is a clear and implicit conspiracy to reduce Dengali to a matriarchal colony in spite of its previous strides toward meritocracy and equality among the sexes. They are caught between the Deadoran hammer and the Shrailleeni anvil. The former wishes to emasculate all mankind and the latter wishes to deprive their own society of the men's abilities and merits. Left to themselves, it's national suicide, but spread abroad, it is murder. It is highly illogical and harmful to the human race."

Padin also warned the Dengali Government that, "your best interests are not served by docile obedience to two hostile nations that wish to relegate half your population to slavery. We are confident that true patriots, such as General Ajam, understand this, and we urge the Republic to follow their example. We stand with the Dengali people against the matriarchal menace. Equality must be as true for men as for women. We would oppose a patriarchal aggressor, so why not a matriarchal one as well?"

Padin also urged "the Edomite government and nation, powerful as it is, to stand with Dengali and with us against the Deadoran-Shrailleeni peril, against which we have long warned this region. Now that our warnings are vindicated, perhaps you will listen."

The obvious question here is....where is General Melin? Did he endorse this new attitude, this new militancy in foreign policy, or is First Commissar Vair Padin now standing on her own? Is he dead or alive? For the present, we have First Commissar Vair Padin, making broad pronouncements, but is this really the new way? Who is really in charge here?

Toducin Defects! Liam Declares War!

Image
Dominion infantry hold their ground as Liamite State Army Trenchers attack the town of Verric, 9 km inside the Gallagherian border

Violence in Dhuria escalates between the skirmishers of both the Gallagherian Dominion and Liam State Army forces, but as a shock Toducin state has announced its intent to switch to Gallagher's side. Already, they have committed their own state army forces to the fight, promising to send several light infantry regiments into the swamplands to their east.

In response, Liam state officials declared the Dominion a solid enemy of the Commonwealth and, without awaiting clearence from the great and just leader Deacon Gauring, launched their own pre-emptive offensive two hours before declaring war, driving into Gallagher. In response, Guvernor-Militant Alexander stated that he has no wish to engage in more bloodshed, but if that is the only answer the Commonwealth now has, he will gladly rise to defend his people. As the Gallagher/Liam border erupts in a new slurry of violence, one can only wait with baited breath to see just how far this new war will go and if the bloodshed in our country will ever stop.

King Maximian and Queen Lily to be parents?

Postby Gavinium Magnus » Mon Nov 24, 2014 1:47 am

National Sentinel,
Louise Villon

His Sacred Majesty, King Maximian II of Gavinium Magnus, has declined to comment yet, as has Queen Lily Greenleaf, but it is now a widely circulated rumor that the Queen is in fact with child, which would mean a new Heir or Heiress Apparent to the throne (the sex is irrelevant, due to absolute primogeniture in all matters of Gavinian succession). If true, the child would be related by blood to several prominent dynasties and be the first such heir to have this list of foreign dynastic entanglements in nearly two centuries.

There will also be some relief on religious grounds in many quarters, as it reduces the danger of a possible Christian, HRH Crown Princess Desiree, attaining the throne. Despite increasing ties to overwhelmingly Christian New Edom, Gavinium Magnus is solidly Luminarian in matters of faith as it has always been. The prospect of a Christian on the throne has naturally made the majority of Gavinians a bit nervous, especially with such laws as the Morality Act and Compulsory Nudity Act constantly in the news. While most Gavinians have great affection for their Edomite neighbors, they have no desire to emulate their laws.

As one Gavinian banker noted, "In a rainy land like Gavinium Magnus, compulsory nudity would invite pneumonia."

Be that as it may, it might be premature to crack open those bottles of brandy yet. It would be best to wait for confirmation from the Crown. Until then, it would be wise to hold off on any assumptions. Egg is much better on plates than on faces, after all.
"Love of one is a piece of barbarism, since it is practiced at the expense of all."- Friedrich Nietzsche
