It depends on who's participating. It's only as meaningful as the relationship you have with whomever you're doing it with. It can either be a meaningful act of love or simply a means to achieve pleasure.

No I mean, I'm okay if me and my partner have casual flings and even bring someone into a threesome/orgy and a casual sexual relationship.

I'm not sure if I am okay with the idea of me and my partner being in romantic relationships with other people.

I've never been in a truly polyamorous relationship, so I can't give perfect advice on the matter, but generally I'd recommend that you and your partner discuss the issue to see what you are comfortable with, and otherwise allow the relationship to develop naturally. If you find yourself desiring a romantic relationship with someone else, you can act on it then, but otherwise you don't need to worry about it.

I have been in a poly relationship before (granted, only one). The thing is, you should obviously always ask before introducing somebody else into the dynamic, even if the person you're bringing in is only going to be involved with you.
