There is definitely a lot to dislike, even for those who find the religion itself fine enough for tolerance or Reijas kind enough for protection. So if we need more people for the bigots:

1- That super huge military is used, and used often. We will destroy a nation down to the last if it has mistreated Marshites. Marshites either know the Honor War concept with its allies or Total War, there is no in-between.
2- We won the Long War via genociding another peoples down to the last. we pursue the survivors and kill them, regardless of their age.
3- While our religion is ultra liberal, it is still the state religion. Even if one finds the religion benign, the fact it is the law, the government, the society, the culture, the media, the education, etc. can be disgusting.
4- Our education system is so focused in on mass religious indoctrination and warfare that it can appear disgusting.

that... is a bit extreme. Rhodeves would find that an extremely conservative attitude. Of course, they wouldn't say that outright and the nations may be friendly, but having schools indoctrinate children sounds like the Rhodeve republic/Empire, which leaves a bad taste in people's mouths...

Yes, Yes it sure is. Holy Marsh is a sudy in mass contradiction and tragedy. A very liberal, supporting, flexible religion aligned with the most western of values in terms of societal and cultural needs. A generally very kind, loving people and a clergy that believes in the tenets of the very flexible, happy religion.

Take that and then put it in a situation where it had to endure a two-thousand year long total war against an apocalyptic, human sacrificing, war-mongering 'religion' that prized the act of mass murder and the very state of war. It is forced to adapt not only to what the needs of such a war are to the point that the Church has its hand in quite literally every single aspect of life, but the people as a whole don't just expect to die young, but expect to die young, in war, as a martyr. That happy go lucky spirit still exists, however it is tempered by the fact that the Church needs not only a lot of soldiers, but very highly motivated and trained ones at that. The tragedy is that the current society, while it has a lot of innate advantages, is so heavily militarized and inured from influence that they don't even see it as anything other than normal.

Hence why Reijas is confused about the school schedule, since there isn't a period or three set daily aside learning how to operate the weaponry of the army. Isn't that required learning everywhere??????

It is a very interesting concept which I am finding very intriguing. The actions make complete sense.
I tried to build Rhodevus as a different approach to that concept, where you take a completely liberal, pacifist and nature loving people and throw radical religious people, and other radical terrorist groups at them. Rhodevus people tend to be very nationalistic, which like the Holy Marsh, is needed to maintain a large well disciplined army with high morale. It seems we both have a very close idea, yet balance it out with religion (in your case) and monarchy in mine.
