Welcome to the world of the future.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. What has happened to the world? Well, a lot of things have happened. For starters you are not who you think you are. You are probably a clone of someone who used to be you, or you were put in stasis for when the time was right to “revive” you. Crazy huh? Then, let’s get to the other basic things: your house – you know, the place you remember from childhood? It’s probably also not your house anymore. Some asshole corporate appropriated it and made the area a mall or an apartment building for all we know. We do not know the exact reason for it, we just know that they did.
But that’s not so bad, I mean your bank account accrued interest since the last time you checked on it and – well, if you had it in a bank that was involved in the big banking collapse of 2018 then you have no money. But don’t worry, we have a very socialist system of currency with the whole integration of currency. In fact, we are one of the few people who will actually give you 20,000 euros to start. You don’t remember Euros being the currency of your time? Well that’s because the dollar did collapse because the Japanese megacorporations bought most of the national debt, just to reclaim it all back once they had a good percentage on their grasp.
You see this in my hand, this is a Computech Neural Link 2300. We purchased several of them for our corporation. You can get these only from approved providers. Don’t let this slip though, but I know of a good medfixer who can actually implant one and acquire it from the black market. If you get caught though prepared to be in trouble; I would also recommend keeping the original ID print on it though, just in case you find yourself in need of a job.
Beyond that, you already know where you are. This, this city where we are right now, is the city you remembered, except more advanced. We’re called the same, we’re just not the same anymore. In here, it’s not some idealistic community you usually encountered when you were back in the early 2000s, this is now a corporate technological wasteland. You want to be idealistic? Go ahead and be idealistic, but fair warning, you’re alone.
This RP is all about survival in the year 2025. I will be the “God” or “referee” of the RP, I might need other people to actually help me out depending on how popular it gets to be. You want to live? Then just make sure you appease the right people (or piss off the right kind of people) and you’ll be set. Also, piss off the wrong type of people and you will end up dead in an alley faster than a frantic guitar solo.
The application is a more serious method of gameplay, similar to Cyberpunk. You will have a character and you will be giving them several characteristics. You can pimp them out as much as you like, but remember, your hunk of meat (or metal) is as vulnerable as the next person in this city, so you also are not going to be invincible either, even though you might feel that way as bullets just graze your metal implants or your metal body.
Rules:
- No Godmodding.
Application:
Character picture: pretty self-evident.
Name: This is, obviously, the name of your character.
Handler: This is how your character will be known as in the streets. Your alias, to put it in more modern terms.
Age: This is the age of your character. This actually influences background.
Background: Here goes everything we need to know about your character. Is your character a yuppie? A poor kid from the streets? A heir of a powerful family who are aristocrats more than what they actually admit? Has your character done time in the army, in jail, in college? Anything and everything we need to know about your character goes here. Caveat: your age determines the type of life your character has been living so far. You cannot, for instance, be a 16 year old and expect people to believe you have gone to college for your Ph.D., been in the army, and done 3 years in jail when we know that’s impossible, be realistic here.
Personality: here is how he feels about people. What he values most, how they interact with people, who they value, their personality quirks, their habits, etc. Your character, your personality details.
Languages spoken: depending on where you come from (which should go in background) you can speak up to two languages from the get go, you also get slang knowledge in both languages.
Character sex: this is the sex of your character
Character gender: this is the gender of your character. Why the gender? Because we cannot assume every character is a heterosexual femme fatale or a heterosexual macho man here. Any gender goes here; after all, you can even modify your body and genetic code nowadays.
Role: the role of your character. There’s the following classes: musicians, techs, solos, corporates, medics, nomads, fixers, cops, and media; of course, you can create your own class and let us know what they do. Let’s see what each of the ones listed do:
Musicians: these are the types who actually make concerts. They are in the know of instruments and they generally are very good at having a fan base of some sort. Usually carrying an instrument, they are the Elvis Presley of the times.
Techs: The people who fix your technology and equipment when needed. They will generally repair your equipment, or your money back – sometimes. They also are good at installing new equipment into people, they are generally known as medtechs though in that case. Techs can only expand the abilities of an artificial limb or a piece of equipment you give them to modify. They can also be displeasant to work with and outright dangerous when pissed, be warned.
Solos: the mercenaries of the city. They don’t care about your loyalties, they generally ride alone. These people can be your greatest ally or your worse enemy – at the right price.
Corporates: the people who run the corporations. You generally start out as a junior corporate – vying to get to the top of the ladder by any means necessary, doesn’t mean the climb to the top is easy. You also have people on the outside resenting and hating you, so corporates are not in some privileged position either.
Medics: perhaps the one whose everyone want to be friends with. They can heal you if you are wounded, usually fast, and if they specialize they can even perform surgery on you. Of course, they are not really needed if you have nanochip medical implants, but it’s nice to respect them overall.
Media: the people who are on the scoop of things. They can destroy or create someone’s reputation quickly. You don’t want to annoy them is all I can tell you.
Cops: The Law Enforcement of the city. You want to stay out of trouble with them, or join them, why not?
Fixers: They deal with people in the streets all the time. You need someone who can get abargain for that part you always wanted out of the black market? They’re your go to guys.
Nomad: You wander around from place to place. Often, you live with other nomads; your family. You can use this to your advantage, or it can turn around and bite you.
Skils: these are the skills your character actually knows. The skill has to be relevant to the role you play. Or not. Your choice. You also have to let us know the level which your character knows this skill: below average, average, above average, genius-level, and super-human level.
Job: Oh, here you will need to also have a job. Your job is what you do during the day though. Say for instance you are a cop and a media. You can be cop at day but a brave blog reporter at night, or a newspaper editorial worker at day while working at the local police station at night, waiting for the next crime call.
Income: This is the amount of income you earn. If you run a private business put a decent amount here per day (say, 100 euros to begin with); if you are on government payroll add a bit more (maximum to 200/day); if you are corporate, depends on your position (keep in mind, junior corporate workers start out here at 250/day, if you are doing more you need to be in higher positions).
Gear: yes, this is what your character wears: clothes, accessories, hairstyle, so on. Give a detailed description of it, otherwise we’ll just assume your character is in rags. You also get to buy better clothes and body parts/mods (hey, I never said you couldn’t make your character an atropomorphic cat or zebra with designer equipment or start out as a cyborg with your brain encased in a metal cranium) with euros at the clothing shops.
Equipment: this is equipment that doesn’t fall in any category. Your main tools for the job in other words.
Technology: this is what your character has as technology. You can choose 2 technologies to get either implanted or given to your character at the beginning, and the rest is up to you to acquire through the shops and black dealers on the streets (this is why you needed those 20,000 euros off to start).
Weaponry: these are your weapons. You begin the game with 1 (you think I’d make it easy on you?); you can, however, get good deals on the gun shops or the black market.
For Corporations you have to have these elements:
- Name of Corporation
- Major Shareholder (a profile is expected)
- Right Hand Man (profile expected)
- Left Hand Man (profile expected)
- Number of Employees
- Headquarters
- Major Regional Office locations
- Background of Corporation
- Resources and Equipment: Given it is a megacorporation you can pretty much give them a lot of resources here.
The profiles for your three main characters (the CEO and the right hand and left hand henchmen) are going to be a bit modified:
