[IDEA] Telling other users whether a nation is online

Postby Somstratzka » Sat Jul 26, 2014 2:23 am

I was thinking of something that could show other nations that the nation was online because I find it very hard to know whether my other regionmates or Rpmates are on because they keep their computer on for like 24 hours and it says they logged in 11 hours ago when they are still on.

There's a "Who is online?" page.

I meant one for the actual game, not the forum.

There's no way to tell where a user is active, even if they're online. If I'm cruising the forums, I don't pay attention to RMBs. I may be in an offsite forum, or chatting in IRC, or researching something on the web and still be "playing" Nationstates. Unless you've invented a headset that interprets a player's Alpha waves to determine that they're playing, this isn't practical.

There is the friend feature

User Control Panel > Friends & Foes > Add new friends

It won't show what they're looking at, but it will show if they are online with that nation or not (this may be on the forum specific), but you can just click the nation and at least see how long ago they logged in.

Other than that and Who's Online, this is the best you'll get. They have a higher chance of messaging you back quicker if you send them a TG when they show as online over when it doesn't.

Yeah but you can only add them when they post in the forums or else you cannot become friends.

This is a feature of NS++ that I imagine will be incorporated into NS at some point. It's relatively easy to implement. NS does a version of this right now by recording the timestamp for the last action a user took. However, NS++ does it by pinging the user at regular intervals, and assuming the user is active within X amount of time of the last ping.

You can if they've accessed the forums. There is a way to befriend someone even if they haven't actually posted.
